GERALD JONES HONDA ON 12/23/17 INSPECTED "SRS LT ON" AND TECH CLIFFORD WARNER WROTE IN INVOICE "NO CODES NEED SRS UNIT" AND CHARGED $120. THE SRS LIGHT ALWAYS COMES ON WHEN CAR IS TURNED ON. I DO NOT THINK IT IS SAFE AIR BAG SYSTEM. HONDA MOTORS REFUGE TO EVEN TALK FURTHER AND IT WANTS ME GET RESPECTED AGAIN AND AGAIN. I HAD FOUR TOTAL INSPECTION AND TEST RESULTS DOES NOT GIVE ANY ERROR CODES. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
THE VTC VALVE DOES NOT GIVE THE PROPER OIL PRESSURE RESULTING IN LOUD NOISES AND RATTLES. OIL PRESSURES IS AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF SAFE ENGINE OPERATION. FROM OUR RESEARCH NUMEROUS HONDAS HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND HONDA IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT.
"TAKATA RECALL" WHILE DRIVING, THE LIGHT INDICATING PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LIGHT COMES ON THEN TURNS OFF, AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES IT COMES BACK ON. THAT WORRIES ME.
AIRBAG SETTLEMENT RECALL
TAKATA RECALL, I JUST DON'T WANT IT TO AUTOMATICALLY GO OFF, THAT'S SCARY, AND IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY TAKATA AT NO COST TO MYSELF. UNETHICAL, UNSAFE, AND A DANGER TO OTHER DRIVERS AS WELL!
LOUD GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE WHEN STARTING. HONDA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED FAULTY ACTUATOR BUT REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL TO PAY FOR REPAIR.
A clicking noise comes from the steering column when turning the steering wheel when driving. The car has 101,500 miles. It has been making this noise for approximately 4 years. From previous searches I thought this was an immaterial issue (that is, harmless rubbing of plastic parts). However in now looking into this further I see there have numerous complaints, pointing to a serious point of failure issue with the steering column and it bearing components. A recall should be issued so Honda can correct this defect.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 65-80 MPH, SHUDDERED AND LOST MOTIVE POWER WITH THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS POWERED OFF AND WAS RESTARTED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT CYLINDER NUMBER 3 MISFIRED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE SPARK PLUG WAS REPLACED EVERY TWO TO THREE MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 91,000.
I KEEP GETTING IN THE MAIL ABOUT A TAKATA AIRBAG CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT PAYMENT. SO I WAS TOLD TO DO THE FORM.
TAKATA RECALL: I SAW THE NEWS ABOUT RECALLING THE VEHICLE FOR AIR BAG SAFETY. I AM NOT SURE WHY NOBODY CONTACT ME SINCE MY CAR'S MODEL IS IN THE RECALLING LIST. HONDA ACCORD 2009
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-35 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK, BACK, SHOULDERS, AND CHEST, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CHOICE TOWING FACILITY. NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER WERE NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT AUTO NATION HONDA (4030 HACKS CROSS RD, MEMPHIS, TN 38125, (901) 209-1308) PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V346000 (AIR BAGS). MISSING SOME OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ON THE 2009 HONDA ACCORD; MAINLY RADIO, CLIMATE AND SHIFTER BUTTON DISPLAYS; REST OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WORK AND STILL HAVE FUNCTIONALITY
ELECTRONIC STABILITY SENSOR COMES ON, VEHICLE SHUTS OFF/LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING. ONCE OFF, THERE'S A PERIOD OF ABOUT 10 SECONDS BEFORE IT CAN COME BACK ON.
FAULTY VTC ACTUATOR - THIS IS A KNOWN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH HONDA CARS BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. $600-$700 TO GET REPLACED
I BOUGHT CAR CPO AND REAR PADS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE NEW. A YEAR LATER, I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY REAR BRAKE PADS (HIGH PITCH NOISE, BURNT SMELL). TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP. THEY CHARGED ME OVER $160.00 FOR CLEANING AND LUBRICATING. A MONTH AND A HALF LATER - THE SAME PROBLEM APPEARS AGAIN. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. I WAS CHARGED $220 FOR CLEANING, LUBRICATING AND NEW BRAKE PADS REPLACEMENT. TWO AND A HALF YEARS LATER, STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS AGAIN. RUSTED REAR ROTORS, 20% LEFT OF THE REAR PADS. ALL NEEDS A REPLACEMENT - $350.00 BILL. I HAD PUT A LITTLE LESS THAN 20K MILES FOR THE PAST TWO AND A HALF YEARS. FRONT BRAKES HAVEN'T HAD AN ISSUE AND ARE STILL USABLE. IT APPEARS THAT I AM NOT ALONE AND A LOT OF OWNERS OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL REPORT THE SAME ISSUES. THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS. I WOULD LIKE HONDA TO ACKNOWLEDGE BAD DESIGN AND REPLACE IT IN THE VEHICLE ALTOGETHER.
COMPLAINT INVOLVING WEBASTO AFTERMARKET RETRACTABLE SUNROOF. WHILE DRIVING INTO WORK ON 7 SEPTEMBER, 2017, ON A HIGHWAT, I CLOSED THE SUNROOF AND WHEN IT CLOSED I HEARD A LOUD POP AND LOOKED UP AND THE SUNROOF WAS GONE. I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR AND OBSERVED A BLACK CAR TWO CARS BEHIND ME MAKING EMERGENCY MANEUVERING INTO OTHER LANE APPEARING TO AVOID SOMETHING. I PULLED OVER AND OBSERVED NO OTHER VEHICLES DOING THE SAME MOVEMENTS AND NO ACCIDENTS. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO THE STATE POLICE. I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 2009, AND THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE SUNROOF INSTALLED PRIOR TO PURCHASING AND PICKUP OF THE CAR. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW AND THE SUNROOF WAS COVERED IN THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REFERRED ME TO THEIR INSTALLER WHO INFORMED ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME MODELS. WHEN I CONTACTED THE COMPANY I LEARNED THAT MY SUNROOF WAS PART OF A RECALL ISSUED IN 2010, AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THIS. THAT SUNROOF COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE THAT DAY. THE NEXT EVENING WHEN DRIVING THE RETRACTABLE INTERIOR COVER BLEW OUT AND THE METAL SUNROOF FRAME CAME APART AND METAL RODS CAME FLYING INTO THE DRIVER COMPARTMENTS DANGLING AND SWINGING. WHEN I REPORTED THIS TO THE COMPANY, THE REPRESENTATIVE APOLOGIZED AND STATED THAT HE SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME HOW TO SECURE THE INTERIOR COVER. THAT THIS RECALL IS 7 YEARS OLD AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED IN INEXCUSABLE. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD MY CAR SERVICES AT HONDA DEALERSHIPS, AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED ON THIS RECALL. SOMEONE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN KILLED DIRECTLY BY THE FLYING SUNROOF, OR AS A RESULT OF SWERVING TO AVOID THE SUNROOF. IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER SUNROOFS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED, PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW.

AN UNKNOWN DEALER WAS CONTACTED AT 318-445-6677 TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE NOTICE FROM TK HOLDINGS INC. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING AND ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH
WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AND THEY SHOULD HAVE ITS FRONT END DAMAGE
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, CAUSING SPARK PLUG MALFUNCTION
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, THE CONTACT SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD POP SOUND. THE CONTACT OPENED THE TRUNK AND FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SUPPORTING STRUTS FOR THE TRUNK DOOR HAD BURST OPEN, WHICH PREVENTED THE TRUNK FROM REMAINING OPEN WHEN IN USE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,550.
THE VTC ACTUATOR ON MY HONDA ACCORD HAS BEEN MAKING A RATTLING SOUND DURING AN ENGINE COLD STARTUP FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. AFTER CALLING THE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE THEY STATED THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL AND THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT CAUSE ANY DAMAGE OR RELIABILITY ISSUES. HOWEVER, THE SOUND HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE AND THE OTHER DAY, WHILE DRIVING, MY WIFE LOST ALL POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD; THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE SITUATION. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE PROBLEM IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VTC ACTUATOR AND WE WILL NEED TO REPLACE THIS ACTUATOR WITH A REDESIGNED ACTUATOR AT A COST OF $1600(INCLUDING SUGGESTED PART CHANGES WHILE THE WORK IS BEING DONE). THE COST IS NOT IMPORTANT TO ME, IT IS THE SAFETY ASPECT OF THE SITUATION THAT'S TROUBLESOME. IF A REDESIGNED ACTUATOR EXISTS SHOULDN'T CUSTOMERS AT LEAST BE AWARE OF THIS AND THE IMPLICATIONS OF NOT CHANGING THIS PART?
SRS UNIT FAILED AFTER RECALL COMPLETED OF THE INFLATOR RECALL. HONDA DOES HAVE A 15 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS PART, BUT WOULD NOT APPLY IT SINCE THE TECHNICIAN WAS NOT ABLE TO READ THE ERROR CODES. INFLATOR WAS REPLACED AROUND FEBRUARY, SRS LIGHT CAME ON IN MAY AND REPAIRS WAS COMPLETED ON 7/11/17 AT MY EXPENSE.
ECCESIVE OIL CONSUMPTION
THE ENGINE WON'T START THE STARTER MOTOR SOUNDS LIKE IT IS SPINNING FASTER THAN NORMAL, BUT THE ENGINE DOES NOT START UP AND RUN.
LEAKING SEAL ON PASSENGER HALF AXLE BEARING AFTER ONLY 29.2K MILES. CAR BOUGHT AS CERTIFIED IN 2014, ONLY 9K MILES DRIVEN SINCE PURCHASE. PART IS DEFECTIVE. VEHICLE INSPECTED FOR ROUTINE 30K SERVICE, NO WAY THIS PART FAILED IN THE 9K MILES I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR. BEARING BURN OUT CAN CAUSE AXEL TO FAIL. FAILURE INDICATED ON SERVICE ORDER SUMMARY ATTACHED.
TAKATA RECALL, EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, VTC ACTUATOR LOUD GRINDING ON START UP COLD OR WARMING
I BOUGHT THE HONDA ACCORD NEW IN 2009 IN FLORIDA. I GAVE THE CAR TO MY DAUGHTER IN 2016 AND SHE MOVED TO ILLINOIS. SHE HAD THE AIRBAG RECALL REPAIRED ON 6/24/17 BUT AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS STILL ON. THE DEALER STATES THERE IS A "FRONT WEIGHT SENSOR FAILURE" AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED FOR COST OF $882.32. HONDA INDICATES THIS PART IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND WILL NOT PAY FOR REPAIRS. I BELIEVE THE AIRBAGS SHOUD BE FUNCTIONAL AFTER THE RECALL REAIR WAS COMPLETED.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, OIL LIGHT ONLY FLICKERED WHEN TURNING CORNERS, OIL CHANGE ODOMETER SAID OIL WAS AT 30%. CAR WAS MAKING A GRINDING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO OIL. THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO TAKE APART ENGINE YET. THEY RAN A CLEANER THROUGH ENGINE.
THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG AND SIDE CURTAIN AND PASSENGERS FRONT AIR BAG DEPLOYED AS MY SON WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT WHERE HE WORKS. THANK GOD HE WORKS AT A HOSPITAL. I THOUGHT HONDAS WAS SAFE BUT HAVE MY DOUBTS NOW? IT'S SEEMS LIKE NO ONE WANTS TO HELP OTHER THAN OUR INSURANCE. HE SAID HE WAS MAYBE GOING ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR.
HONDA ACCORD 2009 - CURRENTLY 62K MILES. ENGINE RATTLES ON START UP AND ALSO ON ACCELERATION. CONTACTED HONDA DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE SPORADIC FLASHING OIL LIGHT AND RATTLING NOISE. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED NO LEAKING OIL, BUT THERE WAS OIL CONSUMPTION. NOW INVOLVED WITH A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. DEALERSHIP COULDN'T REPLICATE THE RATTLING NOISE. WE NEVER RECEIVED THE NOTICE FROM HONDA ON THE SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT OIL CONSUMPTION. CURRENTLY 1K MILES INTO THE CONSUMPTION TEST AND WE ARE HALFWAY TO THE LOWER MARK ON THE DIPSTICK. UPDATED THE DEALERSHIP OF THE STATUS AND WAS TOLD NOT TO BRING IT BACK UNTIL IT WAS AT THE LOWER MARK ON THE DIPSTICK. CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE THE RATTLING NOISE, WHICH NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS ADVISING US THAT IS A SEPARATE ISSUE. CURRENTLY STILL COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT A TEST HAS TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED. EXTENDED WARRANTY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN AFFECT WITHOUT ANY TESTING, SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH IMMEDIATELY INSTEAD OF WAITING AROUND UNTIL SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR MORE DAMAGE IS DONE TO THE CAR. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED FOR EVERY CAR THAT WAS LISTED IN THAT BULLETIN.

AND AFTER THE FIRST WEEK USING THE CAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & 45 MINUTES LATER ANOTHER 2 LIGHTS CAME ON TOTAL 3 LIGHTS CAME ON MY CAR (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ) ( VSA ) & LAST ONE IS A TRIANGLE SIGNAL WITH THIS LETTER INSIDE /!\ I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DILLER ALREADY ABOUT 5 TIMES & THE PROBLEM STEEL ON MY CAR AFTER THAT I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DILLER AND THEY CHARGE ME $ 180.00 TO FIX ME THE PROBLEM THEY PROMESS ME THE CAR WAS FIXED & 30 DAYS LATER LIGHTS CAME BACK AGAING I TOOK IT BACK TO THE HONDA DILLER BECAUSE THEY SAID IF THE PROBLEM CAME BACK THEY SUPOST TO FIX ME THE CAR FOR FREE AND UNFORTUNATLY THEY CHARGE ME $ 375.00 FOR LABOR AND $ 185.00 FOR THE PART BUT ANOTHER 3 WEEKS LATER THE PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHTS CAME BACK AGAING AND THE WORST THING IS THE CAR IS NO'T AVAILABLE TO DRIVE BECAUSE WHEN THAT LIGHTS ARE ON THE CAR DOESN'T RUN FASTER THAN 30 MILLES FOR HOURLY. & HONESTLY I M TIRED ALREADY BECAUSE I STEEL HAVE TO PAY ARROUND $ 11.000 FOR THE CAR TO THE DILLER BECAUSE I M STEEL WORKING MY CREDIT AND IF THEY CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE I PAY ALOT OF MONEY ALREADY TRYING TO FIX I M VERY DISAPOINT. & BECAUSE IF I GO TO THE HONDA DILLER THEY GO TO CHARGE ME ANOTHER MAY BE $500.00 O MORE. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT IMPACT OR WARNING. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY, CAUSING EXTENSIVE INJURIES TO THE FRONT PASSENGER. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO FUNCTION WHEN APPLYING FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED HEAD, NECK, AND BACK PAINS. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED EXTENSIVE BRUISING, PAIN TO THE HEAD AND BACK, AND INJURIES TO THE LEFT ARM, COLLAR BONE, AND STERNUM. BOTH OCCUPANTS REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND DEEMED THE VEHICLE DESTROYED. THE DEALER (MUNGENAST ST. LOUIS HONDA, 5939 S LINDBERGH BLVD, ST. LOUIS, MO 63123, (314) 894-1330) WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT PROVIDED THE DTC TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNCERTAIN AS TO WHICH RECALL MAY HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE OR IF A DIFFERENT FAILURE HAPPENED THAT WAS NOT RELATED TO THE OPEN RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS WAITING ON A RESPONSE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG AND CRUISE CONTROL FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE. *CN
WE HAVE FOUND THAT ARE 2009 HONDA ACCORD HAS A PARASITIC DRAW WE HAVE TO PULL FUSES SO THE BATTERY DOES NOT GO DEAD WITHIN HOURS. HAVE TRIED NEW BATTERIES, CHARGE BATTERIES. THROUGH OUR OWN RESEARCH PEOPLE ARE CALLING THIS PROBLEM A PARASITIC DRAW FROM THE BATTERY AND ITS A MATTER OF TRACING WIRES DOWN AND PULLING FUSES. AND IF YOU WANT TO USE CAR WITHOUT RUNNING BATTERY DOWN MY HUSBAND HAS PULLED A FUSE OR TWO BUT THIS DISABLES SEVERAL THINGS RADIO, SOME DASHBOARD FUNCTIONS. WHICH IF IT KEEPS GOING COULD BE PROBLEMATIC ON THE FUNCTION OF THE HONDA MAYBE AFFECTING LIGHTS EVENTUALLY OR OTHER SAFETY FEATURES. SO WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AND HOW BAD IT CAN GET AND HOW IT CAN BE FIXED. SOME PEOPLE WERE DISCONNECTING WIRES TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM AND DON'T WANT TO DO THAT. WHEN WE BOUGHT CAR IT HAD TO BE JUMP STARTED. SO THE PROBLEM HAS ONLY INCREASED AS TIME HAS PASSED.

AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AND THE RECALL FOR THE MODULE WAS COMPLETED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO ODDLY ENOUGH THE SRS LIGHT AND TPS ARE ON AS WELL ALL CAME IN ABOUT THE SAME TIME BUT UNKNOWN AS TO WHY
I HAVE A 2009 HONDA ACCORD LX-P (4 CYLINDER, 2.4 L). IT CONSUMES EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL. I DID A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST ( HAD ALMOST 107K MILES ON THE CAR) AT A HONDA SERVICE CENTER. RESULT SAID THE CAR CONSUMED 1 QUARTER OF OIL FOR EVERY 1000 MILES (I NEVER SEE ANY WARNING LIGHT WHEN OIL GETS THIS LOW.) HONDA SERVICE CENTER, AFTER TAKING ABOUT A MONTH, SAID THE VEHICLE MEETS THE REQUIREMENT AND THEREFOR DON'T QUALIFY FOR REPAIR. SO LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL EVERY WEEK OR SO, AND ALSO REFILL OIL AT EVERY 1000 MILES INSTEAD OF STANDARD 3000 MILES.
LAST MONDAY MORNING, I DROVE ON A 2-LANE NEIGHBORHOOD ROAD AT 25MPH SINCE IT WAS RAINING. MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL. I TOUCHED THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK ANYMORE. THE WINDSHIELD STARTED FOG IMMEDIATELY. I COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING WHILE MY CAR STILL MOVED FORWARDED. I FORCED THE SPEED SHAFT INTO THE PARK POSITION. MY CAR STOPPED ON THE OPPOSITE LANE. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO VEHICLE FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I WAS SAFE. THE ACCIDENT LOCATION IS ONE MILE AWAY FROM INTERSTATE. IF THIS HAPPED ON THE INTERSTATE, TRAGEDY WOULD BE INEVITABLE. AFTER MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE BODY SHOP, I FOUND THAT THE RIGHT-FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS FRACTURED AT THE BUSHING LOCATION. THE FRACTURE SECTION WAS NOT NEW AT ALL. IT IS A TYPICAL STRESS CORROSION FRACTURE OVER YEARS. IT SHOULD START AT THE ORIGINAL DEFECT. I CALLED HONDA ACCORD MANUFACTURING USA LAST FRIDAY. THEY DENIED DISCUSSING HOW THIS PART WAS FAILED OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE.
WE'VE BEEN CALLING GUNN HONDA IN SAN ANTONIO TX SINCE AUGUST OF 2016. SINCE THEN, AT EACH CALL WE'VE HEARD "THE PARTS WON'T BE IN FOR TWO WEEKS, AND WE'LL CALL YOU". WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HONDA TODAY TO ASK IF THE CAR HAD BEEN SOLD OR DEMOLISHED, SO WE CALLED GUNN HONDA. THEY SAID THEY HADN'T EVER HEARD OF US, BUT THEY'LL TAKE THE CAR MONDAY. THEY WON'T SAY HOW LONG REPAIRS WILL TAKE. I FEAR AS THIS IS A RECALL INSTEAD OF A "PAYING" JOB, THEY'LL KEEP THE CAR FOR ANOTHER SIX MONTHS WITH AN ESTIMATE OF "TWO WEEKS".

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE REAR ENDED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE AT A 180 DEGREE ANGLE INTO THREE LANES, A 360 DEGREE ANGLE HEAD ON INTO THE GUARDRAIL, AND THEN ONTO THE SHOULDER OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED NECK, HEAD, AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED NECK, BACK, AND HEAD INJURIES THAT ALSO REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT AND THEN TO AN INSURANCE TOWING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V346000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT SUPPOSEDLY THE PART SHOULD BE ORDERED BY THE DEALER USING THE VEHICLE VIN NUMBER. PART SHOULD BE RESERVED FOR THAT SPECIFIC VEHICLE. HELLO, NEITHER THE NHTSA RECALL WEBSITE NOR HONDA'S WEBSITE INDICATES THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE AIRBAG IGNITER ON MY VEHICLE, YET THE DEALERSHIP MAILED/CALLED ME ABOUT AN AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL. WHEN I QUESTIONED THEM, THEY WERE ABLE TO SHOW THAT THEY VERIFIED THE RECALL APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE. MY QUESTION/CONCERN: WHY WOULD THE DEALER HAVE ACCESS TO SAFETY INFORMATION THAT IS HIDDEN FROM THE PUBLIC? I'VE BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH A CRITICAL SAFETY DEFECT WITH A FALSE SENSE OF SAFETY. WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 55 MPH ON ROUTE I-287 IN MORRISTOWN, NJ, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE BADLY AND THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD RUMBLING NOISE. I GOT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION IN MORRISTOWN, WHERE MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT ONE OF MY SPARK PLUGS HAD FAILED TO FUNCTION, HAVING BEEN BADLY OIL FOULED. HE REPLACED THE SPARK PLUG AND SAID THE COMPUTER SCANNER SHOWED CODE P0303 MISFIRE CYLINDER #3. HE ALSO NOTED THAT HONDA HAS A SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR PISTON RING REPLACEMENT INITIATED IN 2013 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO HONDA ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13. THEY REPLACED 3 OF THE 4 SPARK PLUGS IN QUESTION (1 HAVING ALREADY BEEN REPLACED) AND UPDATED THE CAR'S COMPUTER PROGRAM, CALLING THAT STEP ONE IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM. THE HONDA SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT HONDA'S PROTOCOL FOR THIS IS TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE AND REPLACE SPARK PLUGS AND THEN WAIT TO SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. (I LATER CONFIRMED THIS PROTOCOL BY PHONE WITH HONDA AMERICA.) LACKING THAT, HONDA WILL NOT REIMBURSE THE DEALERSHIP IF THEY DO THE REPAIR, BUT THIS FIX SEEMS TO WORK ABOUT HALF THE TIME. WHEN THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN WAS INITIATED IN 2013, I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. CLEARLY, HONDA RECOGNIZED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM OF OIL LEAKING INTO THE CYLINDERS BUT DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL, AS I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD HAVE. IN MY CASE, MY ENGINE FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD LIKE TO HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT MY LOCAL MECHANIC SAYS IT DEFINITELY WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, BECAUSE HONDA DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. REPLACING SPARK PLUGS IS NO MORE THAN A BAND AID. I'M LEFT WITH A SERIOUS AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM, AND HONDA'S INTENTION IS TO SKIRT THE REAL ISSUE BY RISKING MY SAFETY IN ORDER TO AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY.
