LOUD RATTLING NOISE UPON COLD START. HONDA SAYS NO FIX AVAILABLE. SOUNDS LIKE METAL ON METAL AND HONDA CAN NOT FIX THIS?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK AND LOWER BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO STEVENS CREEK HONDA (4590 STEVENS CREEK BLVD, SAN JOSE, CA 95129, PHONE: (800) 692-2129). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED, BUT THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
2009 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO STICKING PISTON RINGS RESULTING IN HIGH ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT COMPLETELY HONOR THE RECALL DUE TO IT BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER BEGAN TESTING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT PROVIDING AN EXPIRATION DATE TO COMPLETE THE TESTS. BY THE TIME OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS WERE COMPLETED, THE WARRANTY RAN OUT. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED TO COVER A PORTION OF THE REPAIR COST. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD COVER THE FULL REPAIR COSTS UNDER THE WARRANTY. UPDATED 10/31/201/2017*JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA ACCORD EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR ADVANTAGE TA (NA) TIRES, SIZE: 225/50/R17 (NA). WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE AND AN ABNORMAL SMELL EMITTED AS THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE TREADS SEPARATED AROUND THE ENTIRE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A SPARE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,810 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,929.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF MY HONDA ACCORD, AND USE MY CAR PRIMARILY FOR PLEASURE DRIVING ON WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS. RECENTLY, I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND SAFETY CHECK, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR DISC BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY WORN AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT, WHEREAS THE FRONT DISC BRAKE LININGS WERE FINE. THIS INFORMATION CAME AS A SURPRISE BECAUSE REAR ARE GENERALLY LAST MORE THAN 70,000- 1000,000 MILES, AND CERTAINLY LONGER THE THAN THE FRONT PADS. THE SERVICE STATION ATTENDANT TOLD ME THAT PREMATURE WEAR ON REAR BRAKE PADS IS A WELL- APPRECIATED DEFECT FOR THE 2009 ACCORD, AND HONDA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS EVEN SETTLED A CLASS ACTION SUIT IN 2010 RELATING SPECIFICALLY TO THIS MATTER. CAN HEAR SLIGHT NOISE WHEN DISCONNECTING MY SEATBELT COMING FROM LOWER PART OF THE DASHBOARD
SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT, DRIVER'S AIRBAG LIGHT AND PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND IT'S NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT.
FROM THE BEGINNING UPON TAKING DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE, THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS WERE NOT RELEASING PROPERLY. WE NOTICED A BURNING SMELL ONCE AFTER DRIVING, BUT NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. WE ALSO NOTICED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT ALWAYS RELEASING, AS PER THE WARNING LIGHT. AT A ROUTINE OIL SERVICE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT RIGHT REAR CALIPER WAS NOT FULL DISENGAGING. THE ENTIRE REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE CLEANED AND ADJUSTED, THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. BOTH REAR CALIPERS HAD TO BE REPLACED. IN THE PAST, OUR VEHICLES HAVE GONE 90,000 MILES BEFORE REPLACING ONLY THE PADS, AND THEN ONLY THE FRONT. TO REPLACE AN ENTIRE REAR BAKE ASSEMBLY INDICATES SOME SORT OF DEFECT OR ENGINEERING PROBLEM. CAR STARTS UP WITH A NOISY RATTLE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH CERTAIN HONDA ENGINES. THERE IS A TSB (A09-010) THAT DESCRIBES THE REPAIR. I WANT TO BRING MY CAR TO A DEALER FOR REPAIR BUT I AM TOLD IT IS NOT FOR FREE.
WHILE ENDEAVORING TO MAKE A SLOW SPEED MANEUVER, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT RESPONSIVE BY POWER ASSISTANCE. IT EVENTUALLY CAME BACK TO NORMAL. CONCERNED I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC WHO SUGGESTED REPLACING THE POWER STEERING PUMP. REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP WITH A HONDA REMANUFACTURED AND FLUSHED SYSTEM WITH GENUINE HONDA POWER STEERING FLUID. NEVER WAS ANYTHING FOUND IN THE FLUID THAT WOULD CONTAMINATE THE FLUID OR CAUSE SYSTEM BLOCKAGE. PROBLEM SEEMED CORRECTED FOR SEVERAL DAYS. IT RESUMED AGAIN. WENT BACK TO MY HONDA DEALER. AT THE HONDA DEALER IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY RACK AND PINION SETUP. THIS IS A COSTLY REPAIR! I HAVE HAD 15 HONDAS AND NEVER HAD TO HAVE THIS DONE. THE PROBLEM IS PROGRESSIVELY BECOMING MORE PRONOUNCED. IT COMES AT VARIED TIMES DURING THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE.
CHAIN REACTION WHERE I WAS THE LAST VEHICLE IN A STOPPED LINE OF CARS I WAS REAR ENDED BY AN USB WHO WAS TRAVELING FAST AND NEVER ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE THE SUV STRUCK THE REAR OF MY ACCORD AND PUSHED ME INTO THE CAR IN FRONT MY CAR HAD CRUSHED REAR END AND CRUMPLED FRONT END WHILE THE SIDE AIR BEG WENT OFF THE FRONT AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY....THIS IS MY CONCERN SINCE IT STRUCK THE FRONT OF THE NEXT VEHICLE CAUSING DAMAGE. *TR
THE SUNROOF SHATTERED FOR NO APPARENT REASONS, NO CARS NEARBY, SUNNY DAY. THERE WAS A POP, THEN THE SUNROOF GLASSES STARTED TO COME DOWN. *TR
MY DRIVER SIDE (LEFT) COURTESY LIGHT WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY TURN ON WHEN THE DOOR(S) OPEN NOR WHEN THE REMOTE IS USED TO UNLOCK THE CAR. YES THE SWITCH IS SET TO DOOR MODE. YES THE LIGHT WORKS WHEN MANUALLY PUSHED. YES ALL OTHER LIGHTS COME ON WHEN THE DOOR(S) OPEN. THE BULB IS FINE, THE FUSE IS FINE, AND THE DOOR-LIGHT SWITCH IS FINE. I FIND THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE, NOT PARTICULARLY REGARDING DRIVING, BUT FOR MY PHYSICAL SAFETY. I NEED THIS ISSUE RESOLVED SO IF I NEED TO USE THIS LIGHT IN PARTICULAR, I CAN. *TR
ENGINE SURGED AND VEHICLE SPED UP, ON IT'S OWN, WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT. VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH BOULDERS AND RAILROAD TIES CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FRONT, REAR, UNDERCARRIAGE, AND RUPTURED THE FUEL TANK. WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME TO REST, PEOPLE WERE YELLING FOR THE OCCUPANTS TO "GET OUT" OF THE VEHICLE, BECAUSE FUEL WAS GUSHING ALL OVER THE GROUND. DRIVER IS 84 AND PASSENGER IS 82. BOTH SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THEIR SPINES AND DRIVER IS STILL IN THE HOSPITAL AS OF 3/8/2015. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. *TR
THIS WAS THE SECOND INCIDENT, WHILE I WAS STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT, AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I LET GO OF BRAKE AND APPLIED THE GAS AND SUDDENLY THE RPM WENT TO ALMOST RED LINE AND I WAS REAL LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO PUT THE GEAR SHIFTER IN TO NEUTRAL AND PULL OVER AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, FEW MINUTES LATER STARTED THE ENGINE AND IT WAS NORMAL AGAIN, THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IN A MONTH THAT THIS HAPPENED FIRST TIME I DIDN'T EVEN APPLY ANY GAS MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, I WILL BE CALLING AMERICAN HONDA TO REPORT THIS ALSO AND WILL TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY SAID THIS PROBLEM IS NOT GOING TO SHOW ON THE SCANNERS, THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT HE HAS HEARD ABOUT THIS, BUT HAS NOT SEEN ONE IN PERSON, I TOLD HIM TO DO A GOOGLE SEARCH AND HE CAN SEE THIS PROBLEM WITH HONDA'S ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THIS IS KNOWN AS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION THAT FORCED TOYOTA TO RECALL THEIR CALLS AND NOW IS HONDA'S TURN TO DO THE RIGHT THING BEFORE ANYONE DIES. *TR
ABOUT A YEAR AGO WHEN I ARRIVED BACK HOME, MY BOYFRIEND (THE DRIVER) PUT THE CAR IN PARK, GOT OUT OF MY CAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, I CLOSED THE DOOR, AND BOOM! ALL OF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MY KIDS WERE IN THE BACK SEAT IMMEDIATELY FRIGHTENED. THEY DID NOT INFLATE, THEY ONLY DROPPED. I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA, OPENED A CLAIM, BROUGHT MY CAR TO A LOCAL DEALER, AND OF COURSE I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY FAULT. THEY ARE BLAMING THE DEPLOYMENT ON AN ACCIDENT THAT A PREVIOUS OWNER HAD GOT INTO MANY YEARS AGO. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, I TRIED CONTACTING AMERICAN HONDA AGAIN TO GET FURTHER EXPLANATION AND ANOTHER INSPECTION I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 ACCORD ON MY SNOW COVERED STREET AND THE VEHICLE STABILITY (VSA) LIGHT FLASHED ON, AS IT SHOULD, WHEN THE VEHICLE LOSES TRACTION. HOWEVER, THE LIGHT STAYED ON AND THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS BOTH APPEARED AS WELL AND ALL 3 STAYED LIT. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT THEY WOULD RESET, BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS, THEY DID NOT. THE VSA AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FUNCTIONS WERE NO LONGER WORKING. MY CAR WAS BROUGHT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND BASED ON THE COMPUTER CODES, DETERMINED THAT THE ABS MODULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST FOR THIS REPAIR WAS OVER $1300! AT THAT TIME, I DECIDED NOT TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR BECAUSE I WANTED TO CALL AMERICAN HONDA TO SEE IF THEY COULD PROVIDE A DISCOUNT FOR THIS VERY IMPORTANT AND EXPENSIVE SAFETY COMPONENT. AFTER MORE THAN A WEEK, THEY DID FINALLY OFFER A DISCOUNT AND THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED FOR $800. MY RESEARCH HAS INDICATED THAT THIS PART HAS HAD A HISTORY OF PROBLEMS IN SOME HONDA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AROUND 2009. THE ABS MODULATOR SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED ON MY HONDA ACCORD WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I BELIEVE THAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH 2009 HONDA VEHICLES. *TR
THE BRAKES SQUEAL. AS THE BRAKES HEAT UP THE NOISE GETS UNBEARABLE. *TR
CAR IS BLACK AND 5 YEARS AGO SHOWED SIGNS OF THE PAINT FALLING APART. NOW THE PAINT IS GETTING REALLY BAD. I TOOK IT TO 2 DEALERS IBWAS TOLD BECAUSE OF THE SUN. ITS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SO I SAID IT'S IN A SHADE WHEN PARKED HOME BUT CANT ALWAYS BE SHADED. I WAS TOLD NOTHING CAN BE DONE
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, A CITY STREET TRAVELING 30 MPH, AND MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THEY HAVE RECENTLY ANNOUNCED RECALLS ON 2008-2009 HONDA 4-DOOR ACCORDS FOR THE SENSITIVITY OF THE SIDE IMPACT SENSORS BEING TOO HIGH. THIS ISN'T AN ISSUE THAT'S EXCLUSIVE TO THEIR 4-DOOR SEDANS, AND ALSO RELATES TO THEIR 2 DOOR COUPE. AS A RESULT OF MY AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT I TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO GIVE ME ANY EXPLANATION AS TO WHY MY AIRBAG DEPLOYED BUT WOULDN'T ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. I ALSO HAD MY INSURANCE COMPANY INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND AFTER THEIR THOROUGH EXAMINATION THEY DEEMED IT A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. AS A RESULT OF THE INCIDENT I WOUND UP HAVING TO PAY $2600 FOR MY AIRBAGS TO BE REPLACED. OVERALL A VERY FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE FOR SOMEONE WHO WAS A LOYAL HONDA OWNER WHO WOUND UP ACCEPTING FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING WRONG.
THE WHITE PAINT ON MY 2009 HONDA ACCORD IS FLAKING OFF IN BIG CHUNKS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE BEIGE UNDER-LAYER. IT STARTED ON THE CHANNELS AROUND MY REAR WINDSHIELD. I THEN NOTICED SPOTS ON THE TRUNK, DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND ROOF. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! AFTER CONSULTING A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PAINT IS NOT ADHERING - MANUFACTURER ERROR!
I TOOK MY HONDA IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY BRAKE PADS WHERE VERY LOW AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND THIS OUT WITH ONLY 17,660 MILES ON THE CAR. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MODEL SHOULD BE AWARE. *TR
SLID INTO A CURB. LOCKED UP THE SEAT BELT, DID NOT DEPLOY AIRBAGS. I THOUGHT IT WAS LIFETIME WARRANTY ON SEAT BELTS. HONDA CHARGED ME $469 TO REPLACE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT. SRS SYSTEM WOULD NOT RESET. NOW IT POINTS TO FRONT SENSORS. HONDA WANTS $859 TO REPLACE FRONT SENSORS AND SRS CONTROL UNIT. *TR
VEHICLE SUDDENDLY LOST ALL POWER. THIS EXACT SAME POWER LOSS HAS OCCURRED FOUR TO FIVE TIMES SINCE I OWN THE VEHICLE. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW FROM A GILLMAN HONDA DEALERSHIP IN HOUSTON, TEXAS IN LATE DECEMBER 2009. THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS HAPPENED WAS A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. AFTERWARDS, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE GILLMAN DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND DISCUSSED THE ISSUE WITH A SERVICE MANGER. I ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT A NOISE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING. I WAS TOLD THEN THAT THERE WAS NO SUCH PROBLEM SIMILAR TO WHAT I DESCRIBED REPORTED, I LEFT AFTER GETTING AN OIL CHANGE. SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE SAME POWER LOST HAS OCCURRED TO ME 3 TO 4 MORE TIMES. THE LAST TIME WAS ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2014 WHILE I WAS AT A CHEVRON GAS STATION. THIS TIME IT HAPPENED WHEN I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AFTER FINISHING PUMPING GASOLINE TO THE GAS TANK AND FINISHED WITH THE PAYMENT. I HAD TO GET SOMEONE TO PUSH THE CAR AWAY FROM PUMP STATION AND TRIED TO GET HELP FROM PEOPLE WHO CAME TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL THEIR VEHICLES WITH GASOLINE. MY WIFE EVENTUALLY CAME TO THE GAS STATION WITH A JUMP CABLE AND I WAS ABLE TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE THEN. AFTERWARDS, I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN O'REILLY AUTO PART STORE AND PROCEEDED TO PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY. HOWEVER, BEFORE I LET THE STORE CLERK REPLACE MY CAR'S BATTERY, I ASKED HIM TO RUN A TEST ON THE CAR'S BATTERY, AND THE RESULT INDICATED THAT THE BATTERY IS STILL IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS REMINDED ME OF THE EXACT SAME SITUATION WHEN I LOST COMPLETE POWER TO THE VEHICLE, AND HAD TO JUMP START IT ABOUT 6 - 8 MONTHS EARLIER. I ALSO DROVE MYSELF TO ANOTHER O'REILLY AUTO PART STORE AND THE SAME SCENARIO PLAYED OUT. THESE EXPERIENCES TOLD ME THAT SOMETHING IS NOT NORMAL. SOME FORM OF SHORT-CIRCUITRY MUST HAPPEN THAT CAUSED MY CAR TO LOSE ITS POWER.
WHEN I WAS REAR ENDED AT A RED LIGHT THE DRIVERS SEAT FELL BACK WARDS AND NOW THE SEAT IS NOT STABLE. IT CONCERNS ME THAT THE SEAT WENT BACK ON ITS OWN UPON IMPACT.
I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A NEIGHBORHOOD ONE NIGHT ON MY WAY HOME AND MY CAR JUST STOPPED AND CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. IT WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON SO I CALLED AAA. ONCE AAA ARRIVED, THEY STATED THAT IT WAS MY BATTERY. HE THEN SAID THIS BATTERY IS NOT ANY GOOD, I TOLD HIM I HAD JUST BOUGHT IT 6 MONTHS PRIOR FROM AAA . SO THE DRIVER REPLACED MY BATTERY FOR FREE. THIS WOULD BE MY 3RD BATTERY IN 1.5 YEARS. NEW PROBLEM, MY CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. NOT KNOWING THE PROBLEM, MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC CLAIMED THAT MY FUEL FILTER HAD WENT BAD, THAT THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO RECEIVE ANY GAS. FIRST OF ALL, I HAD NEVER HEARD OF A FUEL FILTER GOING BAD ESPECIALLY WITH THE MILEAGE ON Y CAR. HONDA SERVICE STATES TO REPLACE THE FILTER AROUND 75,000. SINCE I WAS NO WHERE NEAR 75K WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. ANYWAY, I HAD THE FUEL FILTER REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. AT THIS POINT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON SHOWING THERE WAS STILL A PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC THEN STATED THAT MY O2 SENSOR WENT BAD. SO, I REPLACED THE O2 SENSOR. THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED. MY CAR IS TOO YOUNG FOR THIS MANY ISSUES. MY CAR HAD A LITTLE OVER 60K BUT I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY 3 TIMES, REPLACED THE BALL BEARINGS, O2 SENSOR AND GAS FILTER. I FIND OUT TODAY THE BRAND NEW TIRES I PURCHASED FROM HONDA ARE NOT ANY GOOD AND THE BELT INSIDE THE TIRES ARE ALMOST BROKEN IN TWO. THANKS HONDA, I USE TO LOVE YOU. *TR
GAS LIGHT CAME ON 11.01.14, CHECK BOOK STATED CHECK GAS CAP AND TIGHTEN WHICH I DID. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY NEXT DAY AND CAR MADE LOUD SOUND LOTS OF SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. I PULLED OVER AND CALL TOW TRUCK, VEHICLE TAKEN TO REPAIR SHOP. HE CHECK OIL STATED THAT IT WAS 3 QUARTS LOW, AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT WAS SHOWN THAT ENGINE BLOWN. I CONTACTED HONDA WAITING A RESPONSE. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2009 HONDA ACCORD BRAND NEW FROM A HONDA DEALERSHIP. THE PAINT ON MY CAR IS NOW PEELING ON THE HOOD, ROOF, TRUNK, AND AROUND THE BACK WINDOW. I TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER AND THEY TOOK PICTURES AND AT THE SAME TIME TRIED TELLING ME IT APPEARED AS IF SOMETHING GOT ON THE CAR. THERE'S NO CLEAR COAT LEFT ON THE CAR. I'M SO FRUSTRATED WITH HONDA. I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES AND HAVE HAD HONDAS IN THE PAST. I'M COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE WAY I'VE BEEN TREATED BY HONDA AND THEIR INABILITY TO HELP. ON TWO OCCASIONS IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS, MY 2009 HONDA ACCORD EXPERIENCED WHAT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT A LOW SPEED (FIRST TIME TURNING ON TO A ROAD; SECOND TIME ACCELERATING WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE). THE ENGINE SURGED WITH POWER AND NEARLY REDLINED THE TACHOMETER. EACH CASE I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL TO DISABLE THE DRIVE TRAIN AND THEN SHUT DOWN THE CAR; WAITED FIVE MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR. I SCANNED THE NTSB DATA BASE TO LOOK FOR SIMILAR REPORTING BUT FOUND NONE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED, IN 2014, FROM A HONDA DEALERSHIP, WITH ONLY 15440 MILES ON IT. I DROVE IT WITHOUT INCIDENT FOR AT LEAST NINE MONTHS. I NOW HAVE ABOUT 25500 MILES ON IT. I ALSO OWN AN OLDER ACCORD AND CONSIDER THEIR VEHICLES TO BE QUALITY PRODUCTS. I AM NOT TREATING THIS AS A COMPLAINT AS MUCH AS I AM TRYING TO DETERMINE IF SIMILAR INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED. UNLIKE THE RECENT TOYOTA ISSUES OF FLOOR MATS INDUCING ACCELERATION, THE MAT I USED IS SECURED TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR AND DOES NOT COME WITHIN THREE INCHES BEHIND AND BELOW THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATION PEDAL. BOUGHT CAR IN 2012 WITH 24,000 MILES. AFTER DRIVING IT FOR A WHILE , A LOUD DRONING NOISE BECAME AUDIBLE. I THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE PROBLEM. RECENTLY HAD TIRES REPLACED AND CAR ALIGNED AT 57,000 MILES. NOISE BECAME MUCH LOUDER. TOOK CAR FOR INSPECTION AND MECHANIC SAID PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL BEARING WAS MAKING THE NOISE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST QUOTED IS APPROXIMATELY $330. *TR
I TOOK MY 2009 HONDA ACCORD TO THE DEALERSHIP TO COMPLAIN THAT THE WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON INDICATING THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS WERE OFF. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT AN OBJECT OR PASSENGER IN THE SEAT WOULD AFFECT THIS INDICATOR. I ADVISED THEM THAT NOTHING WOULD BE IN THE SEAT WHEN THE LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENLY LIGHT UP. AFTER MUCH EFFORT THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE SEAT BACK SENOR IN JANUARY 2014. THE PROBLEM SUBSIDED TEMPORARILY. TODAY THE DASHBOARD INDICATOR CONSTANTLY TURNS ON AND OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING REGARDLESS WHETHER ANYONE OR ANYTHING IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. IF THE INDICATOR IS CORRECTLY MONITORING MY PASSENGER AIRBAGS, THEN I AM DRIVING MY CAR 70 % OF THE TIME WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS NEVER KNOWING IF THEY WILL DEPLOY PROPERLY, WHICH IS OUTRAGEOUS. I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA AND DESPITE LIVING IN A RECALL "HUMIDITY ZONE" (MIAMI, FLORIDA) MY HONDA WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THEIR LIMITED RECALL OF DEFECTIVE PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATORS. I THINK THIS IS ABSURD AND THE NHTSA NEEDS TO FORCE AMERICAN HONDA TO INCLUDE NEWER HONDA'S ON THEIR RECALL LIST FOR DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS. *TR

UPON ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE CAR HAS NO POWER MAKING IT UNSAFE TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF APPROACHING TRAFFIC. THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF HESITATION BETWEEN SHIFTING GEARS UNTIL THE VEHICLE REACHES A LEVEL DRIVING SPEED. THERE IS A HARD DOWNSHIFT WHEN SLOWING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP OR EVEN JUST DECREASING THE SPEED. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT ENGINE NOISE DURING ACCELERATION UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION CHANGES GEARS. DRIVING UP A HILL FROM A STOP OR SLOW ROLL CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BARELY RESPOND AND THE RPMS REACH VERY HIGH LEVELS BEFORE THE GEARS CHANGE AND ACCELERATION IS ACHIEVED. *TR
ON A DRIVE LAST FRIDAY WEEK (7/25/2014) FROM CHICAGO TO OKLAHOMA CITY, I EXPERIENCED A VERY FRIGHTENING SCENARIO. ABOUT 2 MILES OUT FROM ST LOUIS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND THE CAR AT 65 MILES/HR IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF TRAFFIC, I APPLIED THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN. TO MY HORROR APPLYING THE BRAKE DID NOT SLOW THE CAR DOWN & THE CAR CONTINUED TO WANT TO STAY AT THE ORIGINAL SPEED. AFTER PRESSING DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL MY NEXT INSTINCT WAS TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL ' WHICH WHILE SLOWING THE CAR DOWN SOMEWHAT THEN RESULTED IN THE ENGINE REVS GOING TO SOMEWHERE AROUND 6000RPM & RISINGAND SO OBVIOUSLY NOT A GOOD SOLUTION. I THEN PUT THE CAR BACK INTO DRIVE & TRIED FURTHER VERY HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME AS PRESSING THE CANCEL BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL. EVENTUALLY ' WITH BOTH FEET NOW ON THE BREAK PEDAL PRESSING WITH AS MUCH FORCE AS I COULD - I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN ENOUGH TO CHANGE LANES & MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD - WHERE THE ENGINE STILL WANTED TO REV UNCONTROLLABLY BUT THIS COULD BE FIXED BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH. AFTER SOME MINUTES HAD ELAPSED I HAD ENOUGH CONFIDENCE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND ' AS EVERYTHING ELSE APPEARED TO BE NORMAL ' PROCEED SLOWLY ' TAKING CARE NOT TO ENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. A FEW MILES LATER THE CAR STILL SEEMED TO BE PERFORMING NORMALLY OTHERWISE AND SO WE DECIDED TO CONTINUE ON OUR JOURNEY. THE CAR WAS THEN TURNED INTO THE HONDA DEALER TO FIX THE ISSUE. HIS DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE BRAKE SWITCH HAD FAILED. THIS WAS REPLACED - BUT WHEN I FINALLY HAD ENOUGH CONFIDENCE TO TEST THE CRUISE CONTROL OUT ON AN OPEN STRETCH OF ROAD ON THE RETURN JOURNEY TO CHICAGO, IT WAS NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL - SO UNTIL I RESUBMIT THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALER (WHICH I WILL DO IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS) I AM UNSURE IF THIS WAS THE ONLY ISSUE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL THAT HAD GONE WRONG. *TR
DASHBOARD ILLUSTRATES AND INDICATES "SIDE AIRBAG" IS TURNED OFF, RANDOMLY. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY(ONCE A WEEK), WHILE NOTHING IS BLOCKING OR CONFLICTING WITH IT'S NORMAL OPERATION. IN THE EVENT OF A SIDE COLLISION, I'M DEEPLY CONCERNED THIS COULD BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE OR FAULTY SENSORS FOR WHICH WILL NOT ALLOW THE AIR BAG TO WORK PROPERLY.. OR WORSE... NOT AT ALL. *TR
