THE DRIVER SEAT IN MY 2009 HONDA ACCORD IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! THE ACTIVE RESTRAINT IS KILLING ME. I PLAN ON REMOVING THE SAFETY DEVICE IF IT IS NOT PLUGGED INTO A SENSOR. IT CAUSES MY TO SQUIRM AROUND WHILE DRIVING EFFECTING MY DRIVING. WHAT A JOKE THIS IS MY FIRST HONDA BUYING BECAUSE OF STYLE AND GREAT HISTORY OF RELIABILITY. LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE VEHICLE. HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME MY BRAKE PADS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.I WAS TOLD SPECIALLY THE REAR PADS DOWN TO 1-2 MM.TOTAL ESTIMATE WAS $610.00. I TAUGHT THIS WAS A JOKE OR A SCAM AT 19000 MILES BRAKE PADS? NOT THE WAY I DRIVE. I DID NOT GET IT DONE BUT LATER I CHECKED IT MYSELF AND LOOKS LIKE IT NEEDS IT.I HAVE BEEN DRIVING OVER 40 YEARS NEVER REPLACE BRAKES SO SOON. I BROUGHT MY 2009 HONDA ACCORD IN FOR A REGULAR OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY REAR BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED. I ONLY HAVE 30,000 MILES WHICH A LOT OF THESE MILES ARE HIGHWAY MILES. NEVER WITH ANY LEASE I HAVE HAD IN THE PAST 18 YEARS, DID I EVER HAVE TO REPLACE BRAKES. THE CARS WERE RETURNED WITHIN THE 36,000 MILE ALLOWANCE. THEY WERE NOT HONDA LEASES, HOWEVER, THIS WAS MY FIRST HONDA. PRIOR LEASES WERE CADILLAC AND NISSAN VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SHE WAS CLOSING THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR, THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE DEPLOYMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,000. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE TPMS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. WHEN SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, IT WENT OFF AND THEN CAME BACK ON. THE DEALER STATED BY PLUGGING IN HER CELL PHONE, IT WAS CAUSING THE LIGHT TPMS LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. UPDATED 07/18/12

EVER SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR I'VE NOTICED THAT MY OIL BURNS UP A LOT FASTER THAN OTHER CARS. WHEN I GET AN OIL CHANGE DONE IT ONLY TAKES LESS THAN 2 MONTHS FOR THE OIL IN THE TANK TO BURN AWAY QUICKLY. I USE THE RECOMMENDED 5W 20. I'M HAVING TO TOP OFF THE TANK MORE OFTEN AND SPEND MORE MONEY ON OIL CONSUMPTION. *TR

2009 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND DASHBOARD INDICATORS. *TGW THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER A BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THE RESPECTIVE PROBLEM. THE SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THE PROBLEM, AND THE CONSUMER LEFT THE DEALER SATISFIED UNTIL JAN 30, 2012, WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN, GENERATING SEVERAL OTHER DASHBOARD LIGHTS, AND ONCE AGAIN THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING ON A REDUCED CYLINDER. ON AUGUST 18, 2012, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND THE DEALER CHARGED HIM $525.43. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE CONSUMED OIL EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
HEAD RESTRAINTS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE AND CAUSE NECK AND BACK PROBLEMS. *TR
PREMATURE WEAR ON THE REAR BRAKES OF 2009 HONDA ACCORD. AT 20,000 MILES I STARTED TO GET A SMALL "SQUEAK" IN THE REAR OF THE CAR NON THE LEFT SIDE. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. ONLY AT LOW SPEEDS. AS THE MONTHS PASSED IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WORSE, BUT I NEVER SUSPECTED WORN BRAKES. THE CAR HAD LESS THAN 25,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALER ON NOV 3, 2012 - I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY BAD DRIVING AND THE TRAFFIC IN THE DC AREA THAT HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM. I PAID $586.22 FOR A BRAKE AND ROTOR REPLACEMENT. IN 44 YEARS OF DRIVING I HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD WHAT WORN BRAKES SOUNDED LIKE. VA HAS ANNUAL INSPECTIONS, EACH YEAR THEY CHECK THE BRAKES. I HAD THE INSPECTION DONE IN NOVEMBER OF 2012 AFTER THE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN BRAKES FAIL AT SUCH AN EARLY RATE. \MANY DRIVERS HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THAT BEFORE. *TR

MY 2009 HONDA ACCORD HAS A GRINDING NOISE THAT OCCURS WHEN THE IGNITION IS ACTIVATED FROM A COLD START. THE NOISE LASTS FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO SECONDS AND SOUNDS LIKE THE TIMING BELT SYSTEM IS RATCHETING INTO PLACE. THIS ONLY OCCURS ON A COLD START, MEANING THE ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN RUNNING FOR 4 OR MORE HOURS. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR. AN INTERNET SEARCH LOCATED HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 09-010 DATED 08/17/10 AND THEN UPDATED ON 10/21/11. THE SAFETY BULLETIN DESCRIBES THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING CONTROL (VTC) ACTUATOR AS BEING, "DEFECTIVE". ADDITIONAL INTERNET SEARCH IDENTIFIED THAT THE GRINDING NOISE WAS COMMON WITH THE 2009 ACCORD. I SPOKE WITH MY DEALER, HUGE WHITE HONDA, COLUMBUS, OHIO. THE DEALERSHIP AGREED WITH MY DIAGNOSIS AND NOTED THAT HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE VTC ACTUATOR. FURTHER, THE DEALER NOTED THAT HONDA ISSUED A 2011 SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE 2009 ACCORD TO ADDRESS COMPLAINTS OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. A SEPTEMBER 2011 NOTICE FROM HONDA IS TITLED "PRODUCT UPDATE: SOFTWARE UPDATE TO IMPROVE FUEL-INJECTOR AND VTC TIMING" THE NOTICE STATES THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR TIMING AND VTC TIMING AT COLD START MAY CREATE DEPOSITS ON THE OIL CONTROL RINGS THAT COULD CONTRIBUTE TO INCREASED OIL CONSUMPTION." THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT MY CAR HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE DEALER ARGUES THAT THE UPDATE IS SEPARATE FROM THE CURRENT GRINDING NOISE AND THAT THE VTC ACTUATOR HAS FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY MY GRINDING NOISE APPEARS TO HAVE STARTED AFTER THE 2011 SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS COMPLETED. BASED ON THE FOREGOING, I AM FORWARDING THIS COMPLAINT. I BELIEVE THERE IS SOME EVIDENCE TO INDICATE THE VTC ACTUATOR IS DEFECTIVE AS BEING NOT SUITED FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. *TR

ON OCTOBER 30 2013 I RECEIVED A CERTIFIED LETTER TO INFORM ME OF A LKQ WHEEL RECALL. THIS RECALL IS FOR A NEW AFTERMARKET WHEEL IDENTIFIED AS 2009 HONDA ACCORD. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE ALONG WITH NUMEROUS INDIVIDUALS TO GET INFORMATION ON WHAT HAS PROMPTED THIS RECALL. THAT BEING SAID I BELIEVE THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE MONITORING OF AFTERMARKET PARTS RECALLS. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS A VIABLE WAY TO GET THESE WHEELS OFF THE ROADWAYS. SHOPS THAT PURCHASED THESE WHEELS SHOULD NOT BE RELIED UPON TO INFORM THEIR CONSUMERS OF THE DANGEROUS WHEELS. THE COMPANY THAT SENT OUT RECALL IS LKQ-KEYSTONE CORPORATION. WHEEL PART NUMBER ALY63934U20N IN THIS RECALL THEY STATE " THIS RECALL IS BEING CONDUCTED DUE TO POTENTIAL DEFECTS WHICH COULD CAUSE THE WHEEL TO FAIL, RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD OCCUR. I SEE THIS AS A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS INCIDENT. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS EXTREMELY SERIOUS ISSUE. *TR

IGNITI COIL PREMATURE BURNOUT. *JS
THERE IS A KNOWN FABRICATION DEFECT OF THE STEERING COLUMN ON HONDA ACCORD 2009 MODEL. A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BY HONDA CORPORATION REGARDING THIS ISSUE IN 2009. THE LOWER BEARING OF THE STEERING COLUMN WAS MIS-INSTALLED. AS A RESULT, THE STEERING COLUMN MAKES A CLUNK NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED. I FIRST BROUGHT THIS ISSUE TO THE ATTENTION OF THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SOON AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR IN OCTOBER 2009. THEY DID NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. MEANWHILE THE STEERING BECAME STICKY. IN OTHER WORDS THE BEARING IN CAUSING BINDING. I AM AFRAID THAT AT A SUDDEN TURN OF THE STEERING WHEEL, THE BEARING MIGHT SHATTER AND LOCK UP THE STEERING COLUMN. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *KB

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO REPAIRS RELATED TO REMOTE START AND MAIN FUSE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, SHE PURCHASED A HONDA CARE VEHICLE SERVICE CONTRACT EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE CAME EQUIPPED WITH A REMOTE START. HOWEVER, ON NOVEMBER 13, 2011, HER SON WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED A MAIN FUSE HAD BLOWN, POSSIBLY DUE TO THE REMOTE START. THE FUSE WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, ON DECEMBER 9, 2011, THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN AGAIN, AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. IT WAS DETERMINED, A WIRE IN THE REMOTE START BLEW THE MAIN FUSE AGAIN. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY $241.31 FOR THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER REFUSED TO THE HONOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THE CONSUMER PURCHASED, BECAUSE THEY WERE CONCERNED THAT THE REMOTE START WAS AN AFTER MARKET COMPONENT. IT WAS DETERMINED, THAT THE SELLING DEALER DID IN FACT INSTALL THE REMOTE START THROUGH AN AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE. *JB
I BOUGHT TWO HONDA'S ON THE SAME DAY FROM PROCTOR HONDA IN TALLAHASSEE, FL. THE 2009 ACCORD HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR A SAFETY DEFECT.. I CONTACTED THE DEALER I BOUGHT THEM FROM AND WAS TOLD VIA E MAIL THEY WOULD NOT HAVE TIME TO MAKE THAT REPAIR UNTIL 11-7-2011 OR LATER. I WAS JUST AT THE DEALER GETTING AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY WERE WORKING ON EVERY KIND OF CAR THE US MAKES. IT IS NOT A RECALL IF THEY DECIDE TO ASSIGN INSUFFICIENT RESOURCES TO CORRECT THIS. IT IS AN UNSAFE JOKE! THIS REPAIR TAKES ONE HOUR OR LESS ACCORDING TO ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAD IT DONE IN JACKSONVILLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHO STATED THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000. UPDATED 09/11/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE SAME THING HAPPEN IN JULY OF 2012. THE SPARK PLUG WAS REPLACED. I WAS TOLD MY REAR BRAKE PADS NEED REPLACING AFTER ONLY 21000 MILES. HONDA SERVICE QUOTED ME $269. THESE PADS SHOULD HAVE LASTED WELL BEYOND 60K MILES. *KB

THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL THEN DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE, CAUSING HIM TO CRASH INTO A GUARD RAIL. ALL OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED BUT THE FRONT PASSENGER WAS INJURED AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE FRONT BUMPER WAS DAMAGED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP. THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND THE WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 55 MPG NOTICED VIBRATION COMING FROM ENGINE. FELT LIKE ENGINE MOUNTS HAD FAILED. WHEN I PULLED INTO OUR HOME DRIVEWAY IT FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING A DIESEL POWERED CAR. I NOTICED OIL LIGHT GLOWING. CHECKED OIL LEVEL, NOTHING SHOWED ON DIP STICK. UNDER 3000 MILES SINCE LAST OIL CHECK. TOOK TO DEALER AND COMPLAINED. CHECKED FOR OIL LEAKS-NONE. FLASHED ENGINE MANAGEMENT WITH UPGRADE SAID SERVICE BULLETIN FROM HONDA SHOULD FIX ISSUE. KEPT CHECKING OIL LEVELS AT EACH GAS FILL UP. NOTICED A QUART OF OIL USED AROUND EVERY THOUSAND MILES OF MIXED DRIVING. BY 50,000 THAT HAD DROPPED TO USING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 600 MILES AND BY 56,000 MILES A QUART OF OIL EVERY 500 MILES. ENGINE RAN ROUGH ALL THE TIME AND BLEW SMOKE. NO VISIBLE ENGINE LEAKS FROM DYE TEST. ENGINE OIL WOULD TURN BLACK WITHIN 1000 MILES AFTER AN OIL CHANGE AT DEALER. DEALER INSTIGATED OIL CONSUMPTION TEST EVERY 1000 MILES. USED 2.5 QUARTS OF OIL. AT 58,000 MILES DEALER RECEIVED PERMISSION TO REPLACE MOTOR WITH NEW SHORT BLOCK FROM HONDA AND REMANUFACTURE HEADS WITH ALL NEW PARTS. THIS WAS AFTER DEALER TORE DOWN THE MOTOR AND CONFIRMED IT WAS SHOT. SCORED BORE AND DESTROYED RINGS, AND BLACK OIL SLUDGE IN MOTOR. I'M GLAD THE ENGINE FAILED WITHIN THE 60,000 DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE IF HONDA DID NOT COME THROUGH WITH A NEW ENGINE. TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO TIMING AT START-UP CAUSING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, BUT TOLD THAT A QUART OF OIL EVERY THOUSAND MILES IS NORMAL. DEALER PERFORMED RECALL SERVICE AND MONITORED OIL SEVERAL TIMES AT THOUSAND MILE INTERVALS. OIL CONSUMPTION ABOUT A QUART EACH TIME AND TOLD IT IS NORMAL. VEHICLE WENT OUT OF WARRANTY AND MONITORING STOPPED. VEHICLE NOW AROUND 50K MILES AND OIL CONSUMPTION NOW MUCH GREATER THAN 1 QUART PER THOUSAND MILES. I MUST CONSTANTLY MONITOR AND ADD OIL. HONDA RECENTLY HAD A CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT FOR 6-CYLINDER VEHICLES FOR EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION. HOWEVER, BASED ON ONLINE RESEARCH THERE APPEARS TO BE MANY OWNERS OF 4-CYLINDER ENGINES THAT ALSO HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. CLEARLY HONDA KNEW/KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS IT. AFTER MUCH COMPLAINING (BECAUSE BRAKES AREN'T USUALLY A WARRANTY ITEM, AND THIS WAS PRIOR TO THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT) THEY DID REPAIR AND REPLACE THEM FOR FREE. 1 YEAR LATER I BEGAN EXPERIENCING A SHIMMY WHEN BRAKING ON THE FREEWAY OR ESPECIALLY ON A HILL, AND WAS TOLD THEN THAT THE FRONT ROTORS ARE NOW MAGICALLY "WARPED". I DEALT WITH IT FOR A WHILE, BUT THEN RECENTLY BEGAN HEARING THE METAL ON METAL SOUND OF THE REAR PADS GOING OUT AGAIN. SURE ENOUGH, UPON TAKING TO THE DEALER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM, IT DOES IN FACT NOW NEED REAR PADS AGAIN AT 46K MILES, AS WELL AS FRONT ROTOR RESURFACING....WHICH NOW I'M ALSO TOLD YOU CAN'T USE THE FRONT PADS ANYMORE WHEN YOU RESURFACE THE ROTORS. SO ESSENTIALLY, I'M REPLACING BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES(REAR BRAKES FOR THE SECOND TIME), AND RESURFACING FOR THE SECOND TIME AT ONLY 46K MILES. WAS TOLD BY TECHNICIAN THAT HE HAS SEEN MANY ACCORDS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM OF MANUFACTURER ERROR. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AS I WAS NOT AND HAVE NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BY HONDA.

THERE ARE TONS OF FORUMS ONLINE WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT AS WELL AS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT THAT WAS FILED SOMETIME IN 2012. FROM EVERYTHING I HAVE READ FROM RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, HONDA EITHER DENIES THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE, SUPPOSEDLY INSTALLS SOME COMPUTER UPGRADE THAT DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, TELLS PEOPLE THEIR ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REBUILT, IS TOLD THEY NEED TO RUN A DIFFERENT TYPE OF OIL, OR LIKE MYSELF WAS TOLD THAT IT IS COMPLETELY NORMAL FOR THESE ENGINES TO CONSUME 1 QUART OF OIL PER 1000 MILES DRIVEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN OIL CHANGE WAS PERFORMED THREE THOUSAND MILES PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A FAILURE WITH THE OIL AND UPDATED THE COMPUTER. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
