NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2020 Honda Accord. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
There has been no incident with my vehicle but I am writing to look into this issue. I see several threads online regarding these warning lights that just randomly pop up without any indicator of a problem with the vehicle. This stops all these assistive features from responding if there were a hazard. Please look into this because Honda is not responsive to the recall issue.
We are getting an airbag warning intermittently. It happens most often when our daughter (about 80-90lbs) is in the passenger seat. I see that the 2020-2022 Accords have an active safety recall for the sensor in the passenger seat but our dealer (performance kings Honda - Cincinnati) is saying there isn't one for our VIN. I have screenshots of the app and the dash. Thank you!
Supplemental restraint system problem. See you dealer. Warning light.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The turbo charger and the fuel pump How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Both instances I was driving and car automatically started to decelerate while I was on the busy interstate. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes by a dealer Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No but Honda has been notified because there is currently a recall out for these issues that includes my year of vehicle but not my vin. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes every system in the vehicle stated it was failing and engine light came on.
2020 Honda Accord Sport 1.5. Routine maintenance always done on time. At 108K turn my car on after a routine 45 minute drive an hour or so previous and all warning lights come on. TPMS, Brake System Problem, road dept system, emissions system. Dealer reports Head Gasket needs replaced and 3rd cylinder misfire, coolant leak etc. Quoted 5K to repair. Only 108K miles. Honda isn’t what it used to be. Quick search reveals the 10th Gen accords and civics suffer from early failure of this product routinely. Surely a known defect worthy of recall.
Driving on rt 42 at 1042pm on March 1st going 60mph my cars break light came on for me to break like there was something in front of me but there wasn’t.
All the lights on the dashboard went off when there was not any previously. With that issue the gas pedal was struggling to go over 20 mph, it was jolting when gas pedal is used.
February 13th at 1256am my emergency break light flashed on my dashboard and beep for me to break but there was nothing in front of me. I was going 60mph on route 42. Roads were clear and there was no traffic.
On Thursday February 5th 2026 I was driving on route 42 at 1014pm going 60mph and my automatic break light came on and beeped as I was driving down the highway. There was nothing in front of me.
9 warnings lights turned on on my dashboard and when going slow and accelerating it brakes by it self also brakes on freeway going 70 mph and then recovers
My car shut off on the road. I tried to accelerate but all my lights on the dashboard came on. I wasn’t able to accelerate more than 20mph. I was about to make it back home. Today I tried to take it out on a test drive, it’s drivable but I was not able to accelerate. Every time I pressed the gas, my car would stall. This is the 4th time it happened.
Driving on the white horse pike in Berlin New Jersey at 1:39pm on January 21st and my BREAK light warning light came on. There was nothing in front of me, I was doing 40mph. The roads were dry, There were no cars near me, and no traffic. It happened again on the same day January 21st, on the White Horse Pike in Lindenwold New Jersey. This one happened at 520pm, I was doing 45mph and my BREAK warning light came on. The road was dry, there was no traffic on the road, and no cars or debris in the road either.
I own a 2020 Honda Accord EX-L with a 1.5T turbo engine. The problem happened on January 20, 2026, when my car had 66,988 miles. While my husband was driving it, the engine warning light came on, and the car suddenly lost power in the middle of the road. Fortunately, there was no car behind me at the time. Otherwise, he could have been in a serious accident. He was able to pull into a nearby parking lot. To avoid further damage, we had the car towed to a certified Honda dealership for diagnosis. The dealer told me that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The total repair cost was $1,851. The dealer checked my vehicle identification number (VIN) and told me there was no recall for my car, even though some vehicles of the same model and year do have recalls for similar issues. Because of this, I had to pay the full repair cost out of pocket. I kept the repair receipt. I later contacted Honda’s customer service to report the issue. However, the representative informed me that Honda could not provide assistance because my VIN was not included in the recall list.
Supplemental Restraint System Problem
Steering wheel sticking or no response at all at highway speeds going around 60-80 miles per hour.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal cranking sound coming from the engine with several unknown warning lights illuminated. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was an abnormal fuel-burning odor coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was almost involved in a crash due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not inspected or diagnosed. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with fuel pump failure. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was taken to another dealer to be diagnosed; however, the vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. A case manager was assigned, and the contact was waiting to hear from the case manager. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
Was operating the vehicle at about 30mph and the braking system started malfunctioning by giving me limited braking power and throwing a bunch of lights on the dash along with sudden loss of acceleration. Tried to press the pedal again and it didn’t respond I drifted to a stop in the middle a lane in the road. Had to shut vehicle off then restart to regain function. All conditions were clear outside. The dealer I bought it from has been very suspicious since the purchase. Bought as a “certified pre-owned” but have had nothing but problems in the couple weeks of owning. Such as the TPMS system continuously going off saying “low tire pressure” the dealer has seen it multiple times and still can’t figure out the problem. They said they’re gonna start “throwing random parts at it” Issues just continue to get worse with little to no cooperation with the dealership. Will be inspected in the morning once it’s towed in. No longer feel safe operating vehicle. Warning lamps came on after the malfunction. Then flickered on and off a few times then stayed on when I restarted the vehicle.
Passenger airbag intermittently works correctly. Sometimes the airbag comes on with an 85lb and 110lb children, but not always. According to the manual, the children are well above the 65lb minimum weight. At another time, sensor did not come on with a 160lb adult. Weight sensor does not appear to be working properly. Honda service performed diagnostic and code B00D5-14 appeared, so they replaced the faulty switch hazard SRS on/off switch. Problem is still occurring - airbag turns on intermittently when children (85lb and 110lb) sits in passenger seat.
On December 26, 2025, the supplemental restraint system problem appeared on the dashboard. On January 6, 2026, vehicle was taken to Stockton Honda service department to performed a diagnostic test and multi-point inspection was completed. During this time the diagnostic results showed a code B0020-13, open or increased resistance in the left side airbag inflator. They recommend starting with the inflator replacement parts, SRS unit and program, and driver seat belt.
Sticky steering wheel at highway speed 70mph and when you put enough force to make it turn it jerks and you have to over correct it and go the other way to maintain in the middle lane on the highway. Takes about 10-15miles to start doing it but does not go away at all once it starts. Happens everytime on the highway
Complete loss of power on acceleration. Car goes limp while driving on highway or a 50 mph street - very dangerous to have loss of power when other cars are driving fast too. We have replaced the spark plugs, coils, and fuel injectors. That was a waste of time and money bc the same problem existing- loss of power again! Turns out, it’s bc the Head gasket has a design flaw - deep grooves between the cylinder heads and head bolts that are not strong or tight enough. I have lost all trust for Honda bc this has not been issued as a recall. After quick online research- Everyone is having the same issue who has these models, this needs to be a safety recall bc Honda created a faulty head gasket design. This car is not safe bc the head gasket design, and I’m making payments on a car that I can’t even drive. Unethical for Honda to not take accountability for this! I’m driving my 03 Toyota that has over 300k miles is more reliable than this 2020 Honda - paying for a car I can’t drive makes me despise Honda for not issuing this recall.
Honda accords have a 1.5 L engine, which all have an issue with the head gaskets either overheating or mixing coolant into the cylinders. They’re all doing it eventually because there is a design flaw Honda doesn’t want to honor it and the car will just stop on you on the freeway because coolant touches the spark plugs. Honda is denying the issue when there’s a whole Facebook page and Internet, page of people saying the same thing they’re quoting and unreasonable amount to fix it almost the cost of the car. It is a very dangerous safety issue and eventually someone could die and needs to make a recall immediately before that happens. Most shops don’t even want to touch the car because it’s a safety issue. If we can get this past ASAP for anybody who has that car or anybody that’s gonna buy that car the safety for them in their family.
I would like to report a known issue with the Honda Accord Sport 1.5t. My head gasket went out Aug. 2024 with about 100,000 miles on the dashboard. The cost to change it was about 4100. My Turbo Charger is now out Dec. 2025, and they are quoting me about 2100 before taxes. The dealership did advise that there is a known issue with the head gasket going out prematurely due to a default with the engine. They also advised that the turbo charger normally goes out after the head gasket is replaced. Please work on having the engine recalled. This is awful. After researching this issue, I see thousands of others are having the same issue. Best regards, Yvette J.
It is unknown what system failed. While coasting to slow for the stopped car in front of me, the car began aggressively accelerating without warning. Adaptive and standard cruise control were both off. Lane keep assist and road departure were also switched off. Due to the slick nature of the road, the acceleration left me traveling far too fast with little space to stop. After sliding to a stop, I was within a foot from the car in front of me. This failure very nearly caused an at-fault accident which there was nothing more I could do. Note that this happened roughly 40 mins into a drive, which was otherwise uneventful. No warning lights were present before, during, or after the issue. This car has been having phantom braking issues and power loss issues consistently since March and has spent significant time in Honda's hands for this issue. The vehicle has come to a near stop on the highway from the previous braking issues and has lost power, stranding me in traffic on a highway. It is suspected that the same system failure that caused those issues has come back up again. To date, thousands have been spent on repair "guesses" and tow bills with no end in sight to these safety issues. This vehicle has become a liability and, as a result, inspections are strongly encouraged. I have included photos of the floor mats as they were at the time, properly secured and not near either pedal.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes independently activated, and the transmission independently shifted into neutral. The contact stated that there were no other vehicles nearby. The brake warning light illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to clean off the sensors and see if the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that she did not want to see if the failure would recur. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,660.
I had just left my job in Albany and was headed to the Latham area, while merging into traffic on I-90 West my 2020 Honda Accord EX-L started to rattle and slow down, numerous lights illuminated simultaneously on my dashboard. I immediately pulled off the north shoulder and restarted my vehicle to no avail, the dashboard lights were still lit and my vehicles speed and steering were compromised. My safety was put at risk due to the immediate issues as previously described while in heavy traffic, I could have easily been involved in an accident due this issue. The system Keeler Honda advised me that had failed was allegedly the head gasket leaking coolant into the engine by means of cylinder four. I was later informed by Keeler that this is a common issue with the accord 1.5 L turbo engines. The problem has been verified by Keeler Honda. There was no prior warning light on my dash that would have indicated there was an issue with my vehicle, the lights only all appeared once the incident had occurred.
On December 4 at 8:57pm I was driving on interstate 295 doing 60 miles an hour and my car’s warning light for breaking came up for me to break like something was in front of me even though there wasn’t, this is a continuing thing going on. I reported every time it happens.
I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden my vehicle didn’t want to accelerate. It began to jerk violently when I would press the gas to accelerate, but my car couldn’t go the speed limit & vehicles behind me almost collided with my car. I then took my car to service and told them what happened and they said my fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The service advisor at the Honda service department that the fuel injectors fail early on the type of Honda accord I have. That it is a known issue for those model for the injectors to fail. I even took it to an independent shop and he also confirmed the injectors are bad. The first time it happened was in December & I got a flashing check engine light, but after that the light didn’t appear. Until 12-31-2025 the check engine light fully came on. Prior to the failure there were no warning lights. If Honda knows there is a known problem on the fuel injectors why don’t they have a recall. It put mine & the lives of others in danger. Not to mention I was quoted over $2,000.00 from the Honda dealership for the repairs.
While I was driving on the highway, the brakes of my car suddenly were violently activated and I had not touched the brakes. If there had been a car behind me, it would have been a major rear end collision. It was over quickly and I accelerated back to the normal speed. I talked to the Honda Service Mgr where I purchased the car and he said he was unaware of the problem although I see that that nearly 3 million Hondas have experienced this issue.
All of the warning lights and 8 warning messages are displayed on my dashboard. They display for a certain amount of time then they go off and return. A number of Youtube post suggest disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes to reset the computer. This is a short term fix. I took the car to Honda for diagnostic test twice. First time I was told it was the turbo and would cost around $2,000. I took it to a different Honda dealership for a second opinion and after their diagnostic test I was told it was an issue in the steering wheel. I had the work completed for the steering wheel, but that was not the issue and the mechanic that completed the work on my steering wheel did a test ride in the vehicle and stated it's not the turbo, because the vehicle is driving normal. Not sure what to do next, but saw a post about reporting this issue to NHTSA.
I replaced my fuel injectors which seems to be a ginormous problem with these 1.5l engines. This was unfortunately only the start of my issues. My current issue is after replacing the fuel injectors my car was still hesitant when accelerating(jerking), stalling, rough idling and my only answer from anyone is my fuel pump/filter. Reading through these forums I am seeing this being another ginormous issue with this model. It’s a shame and so mind blowing Honda has not done anything about either issue. Stay safe my 1.5ers!!!
Car just started jerking and eventually stopped. I had it checked and was told the turbo was gone. Took it to Honda they said the head gaskets are blown. The car is 5 1/2 years old and it not one time ever ran hot. I’m not the only one with this issue. Honda needs to do something to fix this. Every car that goes to service has this issue something is definitely not right
ENGINE,Coolant system VEHICLE WAS CUTTING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING SHAKING AND JERKING
The steering is sticky, and jerky. It's hard for me to maintain a safe driving experience. I'm going to get pulled over. There is a recall on this problem but I have no recalls for my car!!!! The dealership will not acknowledge. And ot is getting so much worse. 52233 miles.
While driving my 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid, VIN [XXX] , the car would start exhibiting rough engine feels, and all of the dashboard lights would come on. The car would lose power at highway speeds, and I’d have to pull over to turn the car off and on. When checking on OBDII meter, getting P0301 codes. I have replaced the coils and plugs twice and still not better. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the Automatic Emergency Braking System erroneously activated, causing the vehicle to abruptly stop in the middle of the road. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure, and the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact was informed of NHTSA Action Number: EA24002 (FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE); and related the failure to NHTSA Action Number. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
Honda never contacted me about this recall or steps to fixing the problem to make sure my car was safe and running/working correctly. I would like the problem/recall to be fixed ASAP. I looked up my VIN on your website and this is how I even found out about this recall. Please help me get it fixed. Thank you.
SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON & OFF. HAVEN'T BEEN TO DEALER FOR PROBLEM.
All dashboard lights came on and car lost speed while I was driving on the freeway in traffic.I couldn't even use emergency lights.Lucky I didn't get hit and maybe killed. Thus had happened several times and after researching i see other people have the same problem.
Driving on a clear road on a clear day with no car in front of me, the brake warning flashed and then the car braked on its own. There was NO reason for the warning or for the car to brake on its own. Automatic breaking isn’t even a feature on this car.
All the indicator lights are activated on the dashboard. They go off after disconnecting the negative battery terminal bit co.e back on later.
Blown head gasket at 98.5K miles.
The contact’s husband owns a 2020 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated, and the message "Supplemental Restraint System" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was an air bag issue, and the passenger’s side air bag sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 71,000.
I have constantly had to replace spark plugs within the last year — all lights are on dashboard. Finally took it and got a P0372 code, rough idling and misfiring, and stalling. Car once cut off on me while driving. Took it to the Honda dealership and it is indeed my fuel injectors and gasket. I have tried to get in touch about a possible recall but the Honda Manufacturer are failing to release a recall. With all lights on dashboard, NO features of the car can be used (cruise control, road departure, lane keep assist, collision mitigation, hill start assist, traction control, brake hold, and tpms) I’m looking forward to a recall coming as soon as possible. I have done my research and thousands of people are having the SAME issue, it is frustrating especially with the cost of work having to be done. Nobody should have to purchase a new car because of a defect of the manufacturer or too lazy to investigate the issue. HONDA Salesmen and mechanics all say the same thing about the 1.5L Sports model. Over 3,400 worth of work due to a problem I did not cause.
The car when pressing the accelerator will decelerate and go limp and won’t move. This is happening to a lot of Honda accords. This will cause an serious accident.
Fuel injectors went bad and caused several warnings to pop up at one time. Vehicle begin to stall on the interstate out of nowhere. Taken to Honda dealership to confirm it was the fuel injectors.
Car has recently started to actuate the door locks while accelerating from a slowing or braking position. There was some clicking or chattering under the steering wheel that may be a symptom before this started happening. It sounds a lot like the recall for other Accords on the control module. Either way, the car should not be actuating the locks when accelerating from a slowing or braking situation. This is not normal and could be life threatening if in an accident.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while an occupant was seated in the front passenger’s seat, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) warning light illuminated. The message "Please see Dealer” was displayed. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V064000 (Air Bags). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Additionally, the emissions system warning light remained continuously illuminated, and the engine was idling roughly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a fuel pump failure. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, several systems malfunctioned and became inoperable, with unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number 20V771000 (Electrical System, Back Over Prevention, Visibility/Wiper, Visibility, Exterior Lighting). The vehicle was diagnosed with a body control module (BCM) failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
The touch screen radio will randomly start pressing itself, it’s a major safety issue. You can be on a road trip with the GPS on the screen and it will randomly go to settings causing you not to be able to see where you need to go next. This is a constant problem I deal with everyday.
The vehicle keeps braking automatically with nothing in front of me, I see numerous people reporting it so I figured I should aswell, nothing in front or near me when it automatically brakes, it is scary as heck tho!
