The contact owns a 1990 Honda Civic. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 95V103001 (SEAT BELTS). The contact stated the driver’s and front passenger’s side seat belts failed to function as intended. The driver’s side lap belt failed to retract, and the receiver buckle failed to function as designed. The vehicle was driven without the seat belt. The contact stated that the front passenger’s side seat belt also failed to operate as needed. The seat belt failed to retract, and the receiver buckle failed to properly operate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The contact was informed that the parts for the recall repair were discontinued. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
I bought this car I believe 1 year ago and I didn’t know it had a recall
The contact owned a 2000 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, another vehicle ran a stop sign. The contact turned to the right to avoid a crash but ended up crashing into the rear corner of another vehicle. The vehicle also ended up striking the embankment on the side of the road. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the lower back and sought medical attention. The other vehicle was damaged. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the Insurance provider for assistance. A case was opened regarding the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Unknown SRS alarm appears, dealer confirmed 1-1, 1-2 error code meaning driver airbag issue. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 20V026000 RECALL DATE: 2020-01-21 Mentioned active airbag recall for 2000 Honda Civic. Tried looking on NHTSA site and Honda site for free repair but nothing showed up. I am concerned that the driver airbag is not safe.
On October 16, 2021, my wife drove the car on the way home, then there was a sudden sound (like a huge fan) and a rough vibration from the engine. The battery light turned on. Then she had a hard time steering the wheel. It was really stiff. She made very wide turns, occupying multiple spaces and lanes. She can't totally control the car. When we arrived home, we popped the hood and found out that all the 3 belts in the engine were off. We just called our insurance today Oct 17 to have it towed to our mechanic. This car passed state inspection last Aug 2022 and we were able to take off 1 belt which seems to be in good condition. We also had 1 belt replaced last 2020.

HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, AND WAS VEERING OFF TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE CONTACT TRIED TO CORRECT HERSELF, THE WHEEL TURNED TO THE LEFT AND CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE AND WAS WRAPPING AROUND THE POLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURE RISK, A BRUISE CHEST, A HEAD CONCOCTION SPLIT OPEN THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS UNCONSCIOUS AND WAS NOT AWARE IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, MY CAR WAS RECALLED. BECAUSE OF THE CAR'S HISTORY, THE AIR BAG INFLATOR IS MORE LIKELY THAN AVERAGE TO KILL ME IF IT ACTIVATES (EXPLODES). THE DEALERSHIPS IN MY AREA (THERE ARE SEVERAL) CANNOT OBTAIN REPLACEMENT PARTS...NEEDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM...FOR 18 TO 24 MONTHS. THIS DELAY IS DUE TO MANUFACTURING ISSUES AND THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC. MY CAR IS NOT DESIGNED TO ALLOW THE INSTALLATION OF AN ON/OFF SWITCH FOR THE AIR BAGS. THEREFORE, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE EXPLODER DISABLED UNTIL REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. NONE OF THE DEALERSHIPS IN MY AREA WILL DO THIS, WITHOUT WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION FROM THE NHTSA. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FINS A WAY TO ASK THE NHTSA TO SEND ME A WRITTEN DEACTIVATION AUTHORIZATION. I RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL FROM HONDA FOR NHTSA RECALL 20V-027 ON MARCH 18, 2020 THAT STATES THAT HONDA IS UNABLE TO INSPECT/REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. I EMAILED THEM AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD PROVIDE ME WITH A FREE (SAFE) LOANER VEHICLE UNTIL THEY COULD FIX MY UNSAFE VEHICLE. THEY CALLED ME ON THE PHONE TODAY, MARCH 24, 2020 (1-888-234-2138) AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE, AND THAT THEY WERE SORRY, BUT THE REPAIR OF MY VEHICLE MIGHT TAKE ANOTHER YEAR FROM TODAY. I DON'T FIND THIS ACCEPTABLE, THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT MIGHT INJURE OR KILL ME.....FOR ANOTHER YEAR.

HONDA SENT ME A LETTER IN THE MAIL TELLING ME MY CAR'S DRIVER AIRBAG MAY NOT BE WORKING CORRECTLY. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T HAVE PARTS TO REPAIR IT YET AND THAT THEY WOULD REACH OUT WHEN THEY HAD THEM. THAT WAS IN MARCH AND NOW IT'S AUGUST. IT'S ALMOST A HALF YEAR NOW THAT I'VE BEEN DRIVING A CAR THAT MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE A WORKING AIR BAG IN IT. I'VE CALLED THEM MULTIPLE TIMES ASKING ABOUT IT AND THEY JUST SAY THEY DON'T HAVE THEM AND THEY CAN'T EVEN GIVE ME A TIME FRAME FOR WHEN THEY MIGHT. THIS IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR A RECALL ON THE DRIVER AIRBAG. THEY WON'T EVEN GIVE ME ANY OPTIONS TO STAY SAFE OTHER THAN DON'T DRIVE THE CAR.

AMERICAN HONDA HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THE SAFETY RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE WITHIN A REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME. I RECEIVED FIRST NOTIFICATION IN MARCH 2020.
ACCORDING TO NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 20V-027, MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG THAT, IF DEPLOYED IN AN ACCIDENT, COULD SERIOUSLY INJURE OR KILL ME. HONDA STATES THAT FREE RECALL INSPECTIONS AND FREE REPAIRS WILL NOT BEGIN FOR ONE YEAR, AS ALTERNATIVE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO UNTIL THEN? I TRAVEL AROUND 200 MILES WEEKLY FOR WORK, AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER CAR. I FEEL LIKE I'M RISKING MY LIFE EVERY TIME I STEP IN MY CAR NOW. WOULD I BE BETTER OFF JUST REMOVING THE AIRBAG MYSELF?

WHILE DRIVING AT BOTH CITY AND HIGHWAY CONDITIONS CAR WILL LOSE ALL POWER AND SHUT DOWN AND COAST TO A STOP.. WILL START UP AGAIN AFTER 5 TO10 EFFORTS TO START. THIS IS INTERRMITTENT PROBLEM. YOU CANNOT PREDICT WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN OR HOW OFTEN IT WILL OCCUR.
I WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE CAR, WEATHER RELATED ACCIDENT. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MILES PER HOUR IN HEAVY SNOW. I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT WHICH CAME UNLATCHED UPON INITIAL IMPACT WITH A GUARD RAIL ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. MY CAR THEN CROSSED THE ROAD AND WENT INTO A DITCH, STRIKING SOME LARGE BOULDERS. THAT IMPACT WAS ON THE FRONT, DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE CAR WAS SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGED AND DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS. I WAS INJURED WITH A BROKEN RIGHT ARM, BROKEN RIGHT LEG, NINE BROKEN RIBS AND SIGNIFICANT LACERATIONS TO MY HEAD AND RIGHT EAR FROM IMPACTING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND FRONT WINDSHIELD. I SPENT 12 DAYS IN A CRITICAL CARE UNIT AND 18 DAYS IN A REHABILITATION CENTER FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY. I HAD TO HAVE PLATES AND SCREWS INSTALLED IN MY LEG AND ARM TO REPAIR THE BROKEN BONES. MY HUSBAND INSPECTED AND TESTED THE DRIVER SEATBELT AND WHILE IT DID APPEAR TO HOLD ON SOME SOLID LATCHES OF THE BELT, WAS ABLE TO OBSERVE IT FAIL AND COME UNLATCHED AFTER HEARING A SOLID CLICK/LATCH SOUND AND THEN PULLING WITH HAND STRENGTH ON THE BELT HAVING IT COME UNLATCHED.
CAR SHUTS DOWN- EGINE DIES AND ALL ELECTRICAL. THIS HAPPENS WHILE CAR IS GOING DOWN THE ROAD. I SEE THERE WAS/IS A RECALL FROM HONDA ON THIS ISSUE. TRYING TO DETERMINE IF STILL IN EFFECT. BOUGHT CAR FROM ORIGINAL OWNER
CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD- I SEE THERE WAS/IS A RECALL BY HONDA OF A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH
CRACKING OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AT LESS THAN 140,000 MILES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE DRIVER REAR ENDED THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND HER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY IN A TIMELY MANNER. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S HEAD STRUCK THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. WHEN IT DEPLOYED, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG CAUSED SKIN ABRASIONS ON THE LEFT FOREARM THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,589.
CAR IS SLUGGISH UP HILLS AND IS NOW STALLING AROUND TURNS WITH POWER STEERING GOING OFF. CAR IS A 5SPEED AND WHEN PUT ON GAS IT RESTARTS. MECHANIC REPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND CRANK SENSOR BUT PROBLEM GOT WORSE. WONDERING IF IGNITION SWITCH COULD BE ISSUE AS I SEE IT WAS AN ISSUE ON OTHER CIVIC MODELS. MECHANIC BOTH AT HONDA AND OUR PERSONAL COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG AND PROBLEM KEEPS COMING UP DESPITE SUPPOSED FIXING. WE'VE SPENT OVER $1,000 ALREADY TRYING TO FIX IT.
THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAMS ON THE CAR DO NOT WORK EVEN THOUGH THE HIGH BEAMS WILL WORK. IT SEEMS SOMEWHAT SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENS TO THE 2001 & 2002 HONDA CIVICS. THE FUESES IN THE CAR SEEM TO WORK FINE AND EVEN WHEN A NEW BULB IS INSTALLED THE LOW BEAMS ONLY WORK FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE THE LOW BEAMS STOP WORKING.
CAR STALLS OUT AFTER HIGHER SPEED DRIVING, USUALLY COMING TO A HARD STOP, REQUIRING ME TO RESTART. ONCE IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, SO IT WAS A BIT SCARY, A SAFETY CONCERN. USUALLY WHILE COMING TO A STOP IS WHEN IT OCCURS EXITING FREEWAYS. I WOULD LIKE HONDA TO FIX, BUT THEY TELL ME MY VIN IS NOT AFFECTED BUT MY MAKE MODEL AND YEAR ARE,NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 02V120000, AND MY CAR HAS THE SYMPTOMS OF AN IGNITION PROBLEM. ALSO THE IGNITION SWITCH IS ROUGH AND SOMETIMES THE KEY JAMS. NOTE THAT IT COULD BE THAT ITS PAST 15 YEARS SINCE THE RECALL NOTICE WENT OUT, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED THE NOTICE. I FEEL THEY ARE LIABLE FOR THIS REPAIR, I NEVER GOT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL AND HOPE FOR A REIMBURSEMENT AS WAS SUGGESTED BY THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO COMPEL THEM TO FIX IT, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON 02/25/18 EXITING THE FREEWAY AND COMING TO A STOP.

I AM A UNSUSPECTING CONSUMER THAT BOUGHT A VEHICLE THAT WAS FOR SALE WITHOUT DISCLOSURE OF THE TRUE CONDITION INCLUDING BRAND HISTORY. I PURCHASE AN UNSAFE CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER AND THE SECOND DAY THE BRAKE FAIL AND THE STEERING WHEEL STIFFNESS. MY DAUGHTER TOOK IT FOR A OIL CHANGE MY MECHANIC SAID IT HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS OIL LEAK, AXLE DAMAGE, SUSPENSION NOISE. I TOOK IT TO HAVE THE MUFFLER CHECK MY MECHANIC SAID THE MUFFLER HAD A ROTTEN PIPE AND TWO DONUT GASKET THAT NEED TO REPLACED WHICH I DID. THE CODE PRESENT P1259 - VTEC SOLENOID AND OXYGEN SENSOR. I REQUESTED THE CAR FAX AND IT SAID THAT IT HAD THREE MINOR ACCIDENTS, THREE OWNERS, MILEAGE INCONSISTENCY. MY DAUGHTER SAID WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE SPEED ODOMETER ONLY GOES TO SIXTY MILES WHEN SPEED UP AND IT WILL NOT GO ANY FURTHER. I NEVER SAW A TITLE, SIGN A TRANSFER FORM, OR GO DOWN WITH HIM TO THE COURT HOUSE TO GET THE STICKER AND TRANSFER PAPER WORK. MY DAUGHTER HAD TO JUMP OUT OF THE CAR WHILE PARKING THE CAR. PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. MECHANIC (AAA-LISTED) DIAGNOSED MASTER WINDOW SWITCH, INSTALLED NEW OEM MASTER WINDOW SWITCH. THIS WEEK, SEPT. 2014, LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER THE REPAIR, THE SAME WINDOW IS STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION. I AM REPORTING B/C 5 HOURS RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE INDICATES THE PROBLEM TO BE PERVASIVE, ONGOING AND DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE. REPAIRS CAN BE VERY EXPENSIVE, CAUSING SOME OWNERS TO JUST LEAVE THE WINDOW CLOSED. I CAN FIND NO RECALLS FROM HONDA. THE CARS SAFETY BELTS HAVE HAD TROUBLE RETRACTING FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS. I WAS UNAWARE OF BEING ABLE TO REPORT SAFETY ISSUES, OR WOULD HAVE MUCH SOONER. MOST RECENTLY THE LOW BEAMS WENT OUT. THE SRS LIGHT IS ALSO ON. THE CARS HORN IS WIRED INTO THE SRS SYSTEM. SO YOU LOOSE TWO MAJOR SAFETY FEATURES AT ONCE. VERY BAD DESIGN. THE DRIVERS SEAT HAD BEEN LOOSE FOR YEARS. THE SKID PLATE/FLOORBOARD CRACKED AND ALLOWED THE BOLTS OR HARDWARE TO CORRODE. DURING THE DAY THE INSIDE OF MY CAR HAD A BURNING PLASTIC SMELL. LATER THAT NIGHT, MY HEADLIGHT LOW BEAMS WOULD NOT WORK. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH THE PASSING BEAMS WEDGED ON.
