I recently purchased the car . I see on several forums , the transmission in this car for this year is prone to leaks and failures and Honda is aware . I’m having that issue .
SRS light came on. Vehicle didn’t have any change in driving performance.
I bought this vehicle with only ~74,000 miles yet the transmission slips 100% of the time when the automatic transmission shifts from first to second gear, and also second to third gear.

Automatic high beams, etc. Potentially very dangerous to other drivers. Place a limit on the intensity of headlights. Ultra bright lights tend to interfere with me knowing where my own vehicle is on the road.It's getting to be almost a constant anxiety attack driving at night with both on coming and following vehicles with ultra bright lights, including low beams. And if the offending vehicle is a SUV or a pickup it feels like I'm flirting with the distinct possibility of an accident and or injury.
The contact owns a 2002 Honda Civic. The contact stated while trying to fasten the driver’s side seat belt, the seat belt failed to release, not allowing the contact to fasten the seat belt. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and also stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was 76,000.
For many months, I have been smelling gas inside the car even when the car has been stationary for an extended period. I recently did a Google search and found many reports and YouTube videos related to fuel leaks caused by a cracked fuel pump housing or module located under the rear seat. It can leak enough to leave a puddle of fuel where the housing goes into the tank. This has apparently been a problem for many years. The fuel pump works as it should and the engine runs fine. I removed the rear seat yesterday and found that I have this problem. It is severe enough that fuel visibly sprays out of the cracked housing whenever the key is in the on position and causes a puddle.
Drove my Honda civic through town today for about 15 minutes. Came up to a stop light. When the light turned green. I took my foot off the brake and the car jerked forward real hard and then there was grinding noise coming from the transmission. The car wouldn't go into drive or reverse. With my foot on the brake the transmission wouldn't go into park. Had to have the car towed home
SRS Light on for a while in Honda Civic, Contacted Dealer as this car was messed with by another dealership last year during light swsitch recall, so wanted only other Dealership to diagnose the issue with SRS but diagnosis alone is $157 and since my auto mechanic cannot read the diagnosis Honda has put or installed this restricted setting on the car. Seat belts and seat bekt sensors may be bad and seat belt cant stick on driver;s side, indicating a safety issue, Transmission exhibiting trouble and revs up when shifting, hard to shift gears with automatic gear shift problems. This should not be happening and brand new engine had to be competely installed with new engine blocks, and new radiator and watter pump need due to failing.
TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT ALL OF A SUDDEN AT A LIGHT WITH 179,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN TRYING TO GIVE IT GAS, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD WHINE. HAD TO GET IT TOWED HOME.
ONE DAY ALL OF THE SUDDEN WITHOUT ANY PRIOR SLIPPING OR ANY NOTICE OF ALL FOR THAT MATTER I WAS PARKED SITTING IN A DRIVE THRU WHEN I WENT TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE IT WOULDN'T ENGAGE OR MOVE AT ALL THERE IS A COMPLAINT OF FAULTY POOR QUALITY TRANMISSONS BETWEEN 2000-2004 PLEASE HELP
OVERHEATING, LEAKING COOLANT, WATER PUMP FAILURE. WHEN DRIVING AND AT IDLE.
RECURRENT AND UNSOLVED ISSUES WITH THE SRS AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. IT WAS "REPAIRED" IN 2016, AGAIN IN FEBRUARY 2021, AND HAS RECURRED AGAIN IN MARCH 2021. I HAVE A HONDA CIVIC SI, WHICH WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE TAKATA RECALL PROGRAM. THE SI IS AN UNCOMMON MODEL OF THE CIVIC, AND I BELIEVE THIS IS THE REASON IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE CONTINUED TO HAVE ISSUES OVER THE YEARS WITH THE SRS WARNING LIGHT COMING ON, AND NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE IT EFFECTIVELY REPAIRED. ACCORDING TO ONLINE FORUMS FOR OLDER CIVICS, THE SRS WARNING LIGHT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE. THOSE OWNERS RECOMMEND DIY REPAIRS AND WORK-AROUNDS. GIVEN THE LIFE-SAVING IMPORTANCE OF AIRBAGS, HONDA SHOULD BE REPAIRING/REPLACING THEM AS NEEDED.
WHILE DRIVING THE LOW BEAMS CUT OUT AND THE SWITCH HARNESS PROVED TO BE FAULTY. OTHER HONDA CIVICS OF THAT YEAR HAD THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH RECALLED BUT MY VIN DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL. THE RECALL IT SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN BUT IT DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR WAS NHTSARECALL NUMBER:12V-136
PROGRESSIVE FAILING OF THE MULTIPLEX CONTROL UNIT, PART # 38200-S5P-A11, FOR MY 2002 HONDA CIVIC HX 5SP HAS RESULTED IN VARIOUS PROBLEMS THAT CAN PROVE TO BE VERY DANGEROUS SUCH AS FAILURE OF TURN SIGNALS, TAIL LIGHTS, WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR, DASHBOARD LIGHTS, DOME LIGHT, POWER DOOR LOCKS, ETC. EXACTLY WHEN THESE FAILURES OCCURRED ARE HARD TO PIN POINT BUT SO FAR I HAVE AVOIDED PROPERTY AND BODILY HARM BUT NOT GREAT INCONVENIENCE AND REPAIR COST. PLEASE ACT TO PREVENT THIS PROBLEM FROM CAUSING HARM OR LOSS OF LIFE.
SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE THE SRS WARNING LIGHT HAS CONTINUOUSLY STAYED ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH BOARD. MY FIRST THOUGHT OF COURSE WAS SOMETHING WAS EITHER WRONG WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM OR THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION THAT LED TO THE AIR BAGS (WHICH ONES I HAVE NO CLUE) BEING DEPLOYED AND SO WHEN I SIGNED THE BILL OF SALE WITH THE DEALER I INQUIRED ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WAS GIVEN A PAPER THAT STATES THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW AS WELL AS TO WHAYLT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM STATUS WAS BUT WAS TO BE EXCLUDED FROM LIABILITY TO THIS ISSUE BY MAKING UP THIS RIDICULOUS DOCUMENT. AFTER SEEING THE CAR FAX THE VEHICLE WAS THEN KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN IN A HEAD ON COLLISION IN 2018 AND SO THE DEALER LIED A BOUT NOT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS DEALER HAS BEEN TOTALLY NON COMPLIANT WITH THE PROCESS OF GETTING THIS ISSUE ADDRESSED LET ALONE FIXED AND I HAVE TRIED ON SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TALK TO OWNER WITHOUT ANY CALLBACK OR ANSWERS. I KNLY GET HOUNDED ABOUT WHAT THEY BELIEVE TO BE THE BALANCE DUE ON THE VEHICLE THAT'S IT . JUST TODAY I RAN THE VIN INN THE DATABASE AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE AIR BAG SYSTWMM IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS VIN AND THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT .
DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE TAKATA AIRBAGS EXPLODED DURING DEPLOYMENT. SHRAPNEL FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE TAKATA AIRBAG LODGED IN THE DRIVER'S NECK CAUSING FATAL INJURIES. THE PASSENGER SIDE TAKATA AIRBAG CAUSED A FIRE ON THAT SIDE OF THE AUTOMOBILE AS WELL.*DT*JB
The death investigator's decedent owned a 2002 Honda Civic. The contact stated that after the decedent stopped at a stop sign, they attempted to make a left turn and struck another vehicle on the passenger side. The decedent's air bag was deployed which caused trauma to the decedent's neck. The decedent's vehicle caught fire shortly after impact. The other driver attempted to remove the decedent from the vehicle as authorities were called to the scene. The decedent received medical treatment at the scene and was later transported to the hospital. The decedent was pronounced deceased approximately 30 minutes after arriving at the emergency room. The other driver did not sustain any injuries. A police officer who arrived at the scene managed to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher. The fire department later arrived at the scene to ensure that the fire was extinguished. A police report was filed. The whereabouts of the vehicle after the accident were unknown. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V370000(Air Bags) and NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V320000(Air Bags) which the contact linked to the decedent's death. The failure mileage was unknown.
MY 2002 HONDA CIVIC IS HAVING AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM TO WHERE MY BRAN NEW JUST BOUGHT BATTERY IS DRAINING WITHING 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR JUST TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND CAUSE IT TO WHERE IT IS HARD TO STEAR AND EVEN TO WHERE I CANT GET OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF DEAD TRAFFIC. THE WHOLE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF AND WON'T LET ME START IT AGAIN. THIS HAS NOW HAPPEND TO ME ON THE FREEWAY AND ON A 55MPH STREET AS WELL.
MY CAR SHOULDN'T CAR WITH AN UNPROGRAMMED KEY. MEANING THE CHOP IS NOT PROGRAMMED AND IT STARTS ANYWAY. WITHOUT AN PROPERLY CODED KEY IT SHOULDN'T START PERIOD. BUT YET I CAN'T USE A DUMMY KEY WHICH ALSO DEFECTS THE PURPOSE. MEANING ANYONE CAN TAKE MY KEY. TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND MAKE A CUT AND THAT'S HOW CARS GET STOLEN. I STILL HAVE THE CAR. ALSO GOT TO START IT IN THE ON POSITION IN THE IGNITION IN ORDER TO START IT. IF YOU DON'T AND IT'S STILL WARM. IT'LL KEEP CRANKING FOR A WHILE THAN FIRE RIGHT UP. IT TAKES LONGER TO CRANK WHEN IT'S WARM AND WHEN YOU TURNING IT FROM ZERO TO THREE AND IT'LL CRANK LONGER BUT IT WON'T IF I START IT IN THE ON POSITION. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE ON HIS PASSENGER SIDE ENTER HIS LANE AND IMPACTED HIS REAR PASSENGER SIDE FENDER. THE CONTACT STATED HE STEERED TO THE LEFT CAUSING HIS BUMPER TO IMPACTED A SECOND VEHICLE'S REAR PASSENGER SIDE FENDER. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID DEPLOY. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THE NEXT DAY HE SUSTAINED CHEST PAINS BUT HAD NOT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE AND WAS TOWED TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT CALLED LOCAL DEALER ROBERTSON'S PALMDALE HONDA LOCATED AT 455 AUTO VISTA DR, PALMDALE, CA 93551, BUT WAS UNABLE TO CONTACT TO THEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V501000 AND 19V182000 (AIR BAGS) AND WAS BEING SERVICE FOR REPAIRS AT DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 101 IN CALIFORNIA IN MODERATE TRAFFIC WHEN THERE WAS AN UNEXPECTED SLOWDOWN. I BRAKED IN TIME, BUT THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME DID NOT. I WAS REAR-ENDED AND MY CAR WAS TOTALED. I WAS NOT INJURED. HOWEVER, THE PERSON IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, WHO WAS WEARING HER SEAT BELT, WAS THROWN FORWARD. SHE STRUCK HER HEAD ON THE DASHBOARD (POSSIBLY THE GRILL) AND INCURRED A SERIOUS EYE INJURY THAT REQUIRED SURGERY TO REPAIR. I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE LAP PORTION OF THE SEAT BELT RESTRAINED HER, APPARENTLY THE SHOULDER PORTION DID NOT. THE ACCIDENT IS DOCUMENTED IN TRAFFIC COLLISION REPORT #9360-2020-00053 ISSUED BY THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL, 6100 LABATH AVE., ROHNERT PARK, CA. 707-588-1400. THE PHOTO I'VE ATTACHED WAS TAKEN ABOUT THREE DAYS AFTER THE ACCIDENT.
SRS light is on. Upon resetting, light comes back on in a couple days. Mechanic says the airbags will not fire with the SRS light on.
2002 HONDA CIVIC LX. SINGLE OVERHEAD NON VTEC 1.7 L. CURRENT MILEAGE 181,000 I NOTICED EVERY SO OFTEN THAT I WOULD GET A SMELL OF GAS ON THIS VEHICLE. WHOEVER IT WAS MORE PRONOUN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING THAT I WOULD SMELL GAS,. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I DECIDED TO REMOVE THE BACK SEAT AND REMOVE THE FUEL INSPECTION COVER APPARENTLY MY ONLINE RESEARCH HOLD UP A KNOWN ISSUE WITH HONDA CIVICS HAVING CRACKED TOP FUEL PUMP HOUSING AKA FUEL FILTER, HONDA SAYS YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE PART. PERSONALLY I CAN UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS NOT A DEFECT BECAUSE SOMETHING THAT IS DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND THE ELEMENTS AND BEING AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THERE IS GASOLINE. SHOULD NOT CRACK. IF FUEL IS LEAKING OUT OF THE HOUSE AND NEXT TO AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR? WOULDN'T THIS BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY DEFECT?

THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED VIOLENTLY WITH A SUBSTANCE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HAD TROUBLE BREATHING AND FELT BURNING TO THE CHEST. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE X-RAYS WERE TAKEN FOR THE CONTACTS SHOULDER HEMATOMA. THE CONTACT MENTIONED CURRENTLY ONGOING MEDICAL TREATMENT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE TOTALED. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION SEIZED. ADDITIONALLY, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. CAMBRIDGE HONDA (LOCATED AT 275 FRESH POND PKWY, CAMBRIDGE, MA 02138, (866) 702-3190) WAS CONTACTED BY PHONE AND NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
NUMEROUS OIL LEAKS ALL HAPPENING SIMULTANEOUSLY - SOLENOID SEAL, FRONT CRANKSHAFT SEAL, VALVE COVER, TIMING COVER , REAR MAIN SEAL, AND OTHERS UNIDENTIFIED YET -- I CANNOT AFFORD ALL OF THESE REPAIRS

There was an abnormal odor of fuel detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA but, no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 235,900.
THE INFORMATION YOU HAVE LISTED IS INCORRECT. THE AIRBAGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND WIRING HARNESS HAS BEEN FIXED. I HAVE THE PAPERWORK TO PROVE IT!
MY 2002 HONDA CIVIC THAT I PURCHASED FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AS A COMMUTER CAR TWO YEARS AGO SUDDENLY HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR 30,000 MILES OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS AND HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM. ONE DAY THE CAR WAS PLACED IN PARK WHILE IN A DRIVE THROUGH WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN PLACED BACK INTO DRIVE. NONE OF THE FORWARD OR REVERSE GEARS WOULD MOVE THE CAR. I TOWED THE CAR HOME AND STILL LOOKING FOR THE FIX. I THOUGHT THE SHIFT CABLE MAY HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE BUT THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM AS IT IS FUNCTIONING AT THE SHIFTER AND AT THE TRANSMISSION. NOT SURE IF A SHIFT SOLENOID IS BAD OR IF THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT. NO WARNING, NO ERRATIC SHIFTING, AND NO BURNT TRANSMISSION FLUID. VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 02 CIVICS AND HONDA HAS TURNED I BLIND EYE TO A KNOWN PROBLEM.
SRS LIGHT STAYS ON CAR DASH. AIR BAGS IN VEHICAL WILL NOT DEPLOY IF INVOLVED IN CAR ACCIDENT. DEALERS SAID IT IS SRS CODE #15-3 OPDS CONTROL UNIT A. ELECTRICAL PROBLEM UNDERNETH PASSANGER SEAT THAT SETS OFF SRS LIGHT IS WHAT I WAS TOLD. THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE SAFETY PART TO REPAIR.
FAILURE OF HEADLIGHTS WHICH MAY RESULT IN A CRASH. MY HEADLIGHTS HAVE FAILED, HOWEVER ONLY MY HIGH-BEAMS WORK AT THIS TIME. THIS RESULTED IN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND WHAT COULD HAVE BECOME FATAL CRASH. I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE DOES NOT FALL UNDER THIS RECALL (RECALL INFO LISTED BELOW.) I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO GET MY VEHICLE FIXED, EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE FALLS UNDER THE EXACT SPECIFICATIONS OF THEIR RECALL. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND AM IN DIRE NEED OF A SAFE VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP. RECALL NUMBER 04V086000 RECALL DATE 02/24/2004 COMPONENT EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS SUMMARY ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE LOW-BEAM TERMINAL ON THE HEAD LIGHT WIRE HARNESS CAN OVERHEAT AND COULD CAUSE THE LOW BEAMS TO FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. CONSEQUENCE AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF LOW BEAMS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. WHAT OWNERS SHOULD DO DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH AND COUPLER FOR SIGNS OF HEAT DAMAGE. IF HEAT DAMAGE IS PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE SWITCH AND COUPLER. IF NO HEAT DAMAGE IS PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH AND ONE MATING PIN IN THE COUPLER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG EXPLOSION CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A CURB ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STREET. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT EAR, WHICH CAUSED A TEMPORARY LOSS OF HEARING. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. A DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V320000 (AIR BAGS) AND 15V370000 (AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 188,000.
I HAVE HAD MY SRS LIGHT ON SINCE I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN JULY OF 2017. MY SEAT BELTS DO NOT LOCK AT THE APPROPRIATE TIMES. I WAS ALSO INVOLVED IN A WRECK DRIVING IN RAIN ON THE INTERSTATE AND HYDROPLANED. I HIT A MEDIAN GOING ABOUT 50 MPH. NO AIR BAGS EJECTED FROM THE IMPACT. THE RESULTS OF THE IMPACT WERE A DENTED FENDER, REPLACEMENT OF THE DRIVER SIDE CONTROL ARM, NEW BALL JOINTS, AS WELL AS A DESPERATELY NEEDED TIRE ALIGNMENT. I FEEL IF THIS IMPACT WAS HARD ENOUGH TO BEND THE CONTROL ARM THEN MY AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE EJECTED, BUT I'M NO MECHANIC. THANK YOU.

2002 ACCORD COLLIDED INTO THE SIDE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE, CAUSING THE ACCORD'S DRIVER AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. THE METAL CAP FROM THE DRIVER AIRBAG INFLATOR WAS BLOWN THROUGH THE DRIVER AIRBAG FABRIC AND INTO THE DRIVER'S NECK. THE DRIVER'S DEATH CERTIFICATE DESCRIBES THE CAUSE OF DEATH "COMPLICATIONS OF BLUNT AND SHARP FORCE INJURIES OF THE NECK". THE HOT INFLATOR MELTED A LOCATION ON THE DRIVER AIRBAG FABRIC. THE VEHICLE IS IN A STORAGE FACILITY IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA.
WHILE DRIVING OUT IN INDIO ON A MAIN STREET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF THAT HAPPENING THE CAR WOULD START TO DRIVE VERY SLUGGISHLY AND STRUGGLED WHILE IN DRIVE. IT BEHAVED AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL AND WOULD ONLY GO 20-30 MPH EVEN IF THE GAS WAS PRESSED ALL THE WAY. EVENTUALLY AS WE DROVE DOWN THE HIGHWAY BACK HOME 3 DAYS LATER IT COMPLETELY STOPPED MOVING IN DRIVE AND WOULD HIGH REV AS YOU PRESSED THE GAS. IT WOULD NOT DRIVE NORMALLY AND ACTED AS IF IT WAS COMPLETELY IN NEUTRAL, NOT DRIVING AT ALL NO MATTER WHAT GEAR IT WAS IN.
TAKATA AIRBAG ISSUE: I WAS IN A FRONT END COLLISION AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 20MPH ON A CITY STREET WITH NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE, RESULTING IN LOSS OF THE FRONT BUMPER, DAMAGE TO THE HOOD AND TO THE FRONT ENGINE COMPONENTS, INCLUDING LEAKING OF WINDOW WASHER AND TRANSMISSION FLUIDS. THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY, BUT IN MY ESTIMATION, IS SHOULD HAVE DONE SO. I WAS NOT INJURED SINCE I WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT. THE AIR BAG IS A REPLACEMENT AIR BAG THAT WAS REPLACED BY A HONDA DEALER IN VIRGINIA, AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL. I AM SIMPLY REPORTING THIS AS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE, SINCE I BELIEVE THAT THE REPLACEMENT AIR BAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED AS NATURALLY AS A FACTORY INSTALLED ONE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE A CELLULAR BUILD UP HAD OCCURRED IN THE TRANSMISSION AND FLUID LEAKED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
TRANSMISSION - CAR DIED ON THE HIGHWAY. HAD IT TOWED TO THE MECHANIC. SERVICE CODE THAT APPEARED WAS P0730, AND I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. CAR HAS 140K ON IT, IS A 2002 HONDA CIVIC, I'M THE ONLY OWNER, AND I HAVE SERVICED THIS CAR COMPLETELY BY THE BOOK. I JUST SPENT $1200 FOR THE TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP LAST MONTH AS A PREVENTIVE MEASURE, $150 ON THE BATTERY IN JAN 2017, TIRES <7K MILES AGO, BRAKES LAST NOV, AND NOW A $5000 ESTIMATE GIVEN TO ME BY THE DEALERSHIP IN ORDER FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION.
I HAVE NOW READ MORE THAN ONE ARTICLE REGARDING 2002 HONDA CIVIC RECALLS FOR FAULTY HEADLIGHT WIRING CAUSING HEADLIGHT FAILURE. BOTH OF MY HEADLIGHTS FAILED, CAUSING VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS, IN THE DARK, ON THE FREEWAY, ON CITY STREETS, THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF! NOW HONDA TELLS ME THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL!! THE CONSUMER STATED THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED AND REQUESTED TO WITHDRAW THE COMPLAINT. *JS
