COOLANT KEEPS LEAKING. WENT ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM. MY MECHANIC CAN'T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM NEITHER CAN ANY OF THE OTHER OWNERS ONLINE MECHANICS. REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND CAP, WATER PUMP, HEAD GASKET, ETC... BUT IT STILL LEAKS. CAN YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE ONLINE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THERE'S NO BULLETIN NUMBER IN YOUR DATABASE FOR THE 2005 HONDA CIVIC COOLING SYSTEM. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 97V140000. COMPONENT: SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS. DETAILS: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. ROAD GRIT AND GRAVEL ASSOCIATED WITH WINTER ROAD CONDITIONS CAN PENETRATE THE RUBBER OF THE LOWER FRONT SPRING MOUNTS AND ACCUMULATE IN THE MOUNTS CAUSING NOTCHES OR PITS TO DEVELOP. THESE NOTCHES CAN DEVELOP CRACKS RESULTING IN BREAKAGE OF A BOTTOM COIL OF THE SPRING. CONSEQUENCE: THE VEHICLES RIDE HEIGHT COULD BE AFFECTED CAUSING NOISE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. THE VEHICLES DYNAMIC STABILITY CAN BE AFFECTED REDUCING THE DRIVERS ABILITY TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CORRECTIVE ACTION: DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH FRONT SPRINGS AND LOWER SPRING MOUNTS. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMALLY LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE INPUT SHAFT BEARING, WHICH WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE INPUT SHAFT BEARING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
PAINT IS PEELING AWAY ON THE CAR FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE HONDA'S WITH SAME ISSUE. *TR
2005 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID: ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDS REPLACING ALONG WITH THE CO2 SENSORS, COST $2000.00. WHAT CAUSES A CAT CONV TO GO BAD? HONDA COULD NOT PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION AND REFUSED TO LOOK INTO ANY SERVICE BULLETINS OR RECALLS. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD, 83045 MILES. WE HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE, INCLUDING THE CLUTCH, REPLACEMENT OF HYBRID BATTERY, SEAT BELTS AND NOW THIS. *TR

2005 HONDA CIVIC. CONSUMER STATES SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION *TGW THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, IN WHICH THE SEAT BELT BROKE AND CAUSED HIS CHEST TO STRIKE THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH LEFT HIM WITH A FRACTURED STERNAL. *JB

2005 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. CONSUMER STATES SUDDEN ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AS SHE MADE A LEFT TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AND WAS PREPARING TO IMMEDIATELY TURN RIGHT INTO AN AVAILABLE PARKING SPOT SLOWLY WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. APPLYING THE BRAKE HAD NO EFFECT. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO GUIDE THE VEHICLE INTO THE SPOT, AVOIDING BOTH A REDWOOD TREE TO THE LEFT AND A ROCK POND TO THE RIGHT, AS THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE BEYOND THE END PARKING SPOT, BY LANDING ON TOP OF A BOULDER AND RUNNING INTO A CHAIN LINK FENCE, IN WHICH THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AND THE WHEELS WERE SPINNING. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS LIFTED OFF THE GROUND BY THE BOULDER. AS SHE BEGAN THE RIGHT TURN INTO THE PARKING SPACE, THE CONSUMER THEN NOTICED SMOKE BILLOWING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONSUMER TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, WHICH STOPPED THE FORWARD MOTION OF THE WHEELS. *JB

THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE FRONT DRIVER AND REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE DOORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PAINT IS PEELING ON THE TOP, DOORS, HOOD, AND TRUNK. ALSO, LARGE AREAS OF THE CLEAR COAT ARE DEGRADING. THE PAINT PEELS DOWN TO THE PRIMER. I DON'T SEE ANY RUST, BUT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT STARTS WITHOUT PAINT TO PROTECT IT.

MY TRANSMISSION LOCKED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I'M NOT SURE WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE WAS RUNNING BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. WHEN I TRIED TO MOVE THE GEAR TO PARK IT MADE AN AWFUL WHINING NOISE. IT WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO. HAD TO CALL THE POLICE, WHO STOOD BY MOVING TRAFFIC UNTIL A TOW TRUCK CAME. *TR

HONDA CIVIC HYBRID 2005. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON A FEW WEEKS AGO AND HAS SINCE REMAINED ON. TOOK CAR TO AUTOZONE FOR COMPUTER ASSESSMENT AND WAS REPORTED THAT THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE OXYGEN SENSORS ATTACHED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP REPORTED AN ISSUE WITH THE SOFTWARE. UPDATE IS AVAILABLE, HOWEVER THEY ARE ISSUING A CHARGE OF $70.00 TO UPDATE AND THEREFORE FIX THE ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH AND SHE WAS ABLE TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING ANY FURTHER. THE CONTACT WAS UNINJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY BUT WAS NOT EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

ON THREE OCCASIONS, THE CONSUMER WAS FORCED TO PROCEED THROUGH RED LIGHTS AND TWICE IT ACCELERATED IN PARKING LOTS AND ULTIMATELY HIT A POST. *JB

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. AN ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION REPORT WAS ALSO AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

I HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AHEAD OF SCHEDULE AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THIS WAS WHEN THEY TOLD ME OF THE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AND THE RECOMMENDED FIXES. THE TRANSMISSION INITIALLY FAILED AT 54,300 MILES. STEVENS CREEK HONDA CLEANED THE TRANSMISSION WITH A SPECIAL DETERGENT AND REPLACED THE FLUID. THEY SAID IF THE PROBLEM CAME UP AGAIN BEFORE 109,000 MILES THEY WOULD HAVE TO ?BURNISH? THE TRANSMISSION. WHAT I DIDN?T REALIZE IS THAT THE DETERGENT CLEANING WAS A ?BAND-AID? FIX SO THAT THE DEALERSHIP COULD AVOID THE MORE COSTLY FIXES THEY WERE OBLIGATED TO PERFORM UNDER THE TERMS OF THE LAWSUIT. THE CAR PERFORMED NORMALLY AGAIN. I WOULD HAVE THE FLUID REPLACED MORE THAT NORMAL DURING SERVICE VISITS. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN AT 124,700 MILES. NOW THEY DON?T WANT TO COVER THE COST BECAUSE IT IS NOW LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, OR COVERED BY THE TERMS OF THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. THIS IS ESSENTIALLY FRAUD. THEY DID A CHEAP INEFFECTIVE CLEANING IN ORDER TO AVOID AND EXPENSIVE REPAIR THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO. ALSO, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILS, I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN?? *TR

2005 HONDA CIVIC WAS STOPPED ON THE ROAD WITH TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME. VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED AT AROUND 40MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT DENTED THE WHOLE PASSENGER SIDE. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED DURING ACCIDENT. DRIVER WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL AND SUFFERED HEAD, NECK AND SPINAL INJURIES. CAR IS WAITING TO BE EXAMINED BY INSURANCE COMPANY. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE (APPROX. 70 MPH) WHEN I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION. MY IMMEDIATE REACTION WAS TO DUCK. I LOOKED OVER MY RIGHT SHOULDER AND SAW MY BACKSEAT WINDOW CRUMBLING...THEN IT BEGAN CIRCULATING THROUGH THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. THE ENTIRE WINDOW WAS DESTROYED. ONCE I PULLED OVER, I CALLED THE POLICE. HE EXAMINED THE CAR AND DID NOT FIND EVIDENCE OF A GUNSHOT, ROCK OR ANY OTHER PROJECTILE. *TR

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A RESTAURANT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT IT WAS DRIVER ERROR AND REPAIRED THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. IN OCTOBER 2010, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SENT OUT A TECHNICIAN WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,302. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED.

THE VEHICLE STOPPED MOVING EIGHT TO TEN FEET AWAY FROM THE INTERSECTION INTO A FIELD. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED THREE BROKEN RIBS, BROKEN BREAST BONE AND SEVERAL BRUISES. HE ALSO HAD BRUISES ON HIS SHOULDER THAT THE AIR BAG SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED. THE CONTACT WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR SEVEN DAYS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 23,887.
2005 HONDA CIVIC EX AUTOMATIC CHOKE COMES ON EVERY TIME YOU START THE CAR --EVEN IF YOU DON'T NEED IT. AFTER IT COMES ON, YOU CAN'T SHUT IT OFF MANUALLY. NOT ONLY DOES THE CHOKE NEEDLESSLY COME ON, BUT IT COMES ON AT AN RPM THAT IS TOO HIGH. IT NEEDLESSLY BURNS FUEL, BUT ALSO PRESENTS A SAFETY PROBLEM AND CAUSES YOU TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. HONDA IS REFUSING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SOLUTION IS THAT THE CHOKE NEEDS TO BE MODIFIED IN THREE WAYS: 1) MANUALLY CHOKE SHUT OFF (WITH HANDLE, ACCELERATOR PEDAL, OR BUTTON), 2) 5TH GEAR DOESN'T DROP RPM SUFFICIENTLY AND CAR DOESN'T GET GOOD GAS MILEAGE, 3) VTECH ENGINE NEEDS TO BE MADE INTO A VTECH-E, SO THAT THE ENGINE GETS BETTER FUEL ECONOMY AT THE SLOWER SPEEDS AND MEET BOTH THE PUBLIC'S AND FEDERAL MILEAGE EXPECTATIONS. HONDA OFFERS VTECH-E, BUT THEY ONLY PROVIDE THIS ENGINE SERIES TO THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO BUY THE DOUBLE OVERHEAD CAM, SUCH AS THAT FOUND IN THE CIVIC SI OR IN SOME ACCORDS. THE SEATS IN THE 2005 HONDA CIVIC EX ARE DANGEROUSLY UNCOMFORTABLE AND POORLY DESIGNED. HONDA GIVES YOU NOTHING MORE THAN A BLOCK OF RUBBER TO SIT ON, WHICH CAUSES SKIN IRRITATION DUE TO A LACK OF HEAT DISSIPATION WITHIN 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT SEATS ARE TOO FAR FORWARD AND SOMEONE OVER 5'9" IS GOING TO HAVE DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE CAR -- PARTICULARLY WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE LACK OF SPRINGS IN THE FRONT AND REAR SEATS POTENTIALLY CAUSES SPINAL INJURIES, DUE TO ROAD SHOCKS NOT BEING ABSORBED, FOR PEOPLE THAT DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON A DAILY BASIS. A CUSTOM UPHOLSTERY SHOP ADVISES ME THEY CAN'T UNBOLT THE SEATS BECAUSE THE AIRBAGS WILL GO OFF BECAUSE THE AIRBAGS HAVE DISTANCE SENSING. NOT ONLY IS THIS LUDICROUS, BUT OFFERS NO CONSUMER SAFETY. A QUICK REVIEW OF THE 2001 HONDA CIVIC EX WITH THE 2005 HONDA CIVIC EX SE REVEALS THAT THE 2001 IS SIGNIFICANTLY SAFER TO OPERATE THAN THE 2005 CIVIC . THE 2001 CIVIC HAS FOUR AIR BAGS IN THE FRONT, INCLUDING SIDE AIRBAGS IN BOTH DOORS. *TR

REPLACED REAR TIRES ABOUT 10,000 MILES AGO, AND THE NEW TIRES ARE CUPPED ON THE INSIDE, CAUSING EXTREME NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR AND SOME VIBRATION. THE ORIGINAL TIRES WORE VERY WELL. REAR TIRE WEAR IS SIGNIFICANT. NEW FRONT TIRES ARE WEARING EVENLY. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON IN HONDA CIVICS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING INTO A MERGING LANE AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK AND BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DIAGNOSTIC OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 87,000.
ON 2/26/10, I HAD 4 NEW TIRES INSTALLED IN MY 2005 CIVIC; AT 56,000 MILES. EVEN PURCHASED THE WARRANTY. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER, I FELT A VERY MILD VIBRATION BETWEEN 48-52 MPH. I DIDN'T MAKE SUCH A BIG DEAL OF IT THEN. THE PAST 6 WEEKS OR SO, ABOUT 60,000 MILES, THE CIVIC'S VIBRATING HAS GOTTEN WORSE BETWEEN 48-52MPH. I TOOK IT FOR IT'S MAINTENANCE, HAD EVERYTHING DONE, ESPECIALLY THE BREAK ROTORS AND ALIGNMENT. THE VIBRATING HAS NOT STOPPED. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. ACCORDING TO THEM, THE CAR WAS CHECKED, AND FELT THE VIBRATING. CAR WAS RE-ALIGNED, THE SAID IT WAS THE REAR STRUTS. I HAD THEM REPLACED WITH A DIFFERENT AUTO MECHANIC, THEN HAD IT RE-ALIGNED ONCE MORE TO ANOTHER AUTO MECHANIC. STILL VIBRATES. BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHO INSTALLED THE REAR STRUTS. HE DID A TEST DRIVE, AND BALANCED THE TIRES. THE VIBRATING IS STILL THERE. NOW IT'S BETWEEN 48-60MPH AT RANDOM. SOMETIMES IT DOES IT, SOMETIMES IT'S MILD, SOMETIMES IT STRONGER, DEPENDING AFTER MY APPLY THE BRAKES. THE VIBRATING OCCURS UNDER THE SEATS, FLOOR, REAR, SOME IS FELT VERY MILDLY ON THE DASHBOARD. COULD BE SINCE THE REST OF THE CAR IS VIBRATING. I'M VERY FRUSTRATED. *TR
2005 HONDA CIVIC - UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION ON AT LEAST FOUR OCCASIONS DURING THE 8 OR 9 MONTHS THAT I OWNED IT. MILEAGE WAS ONLY 40,000 MILES. DEALER SAID I WAS STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE BUT, IN 60 YEARS OF DRIVING, THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. I PURCHASED A 2005 HONDA CIVIC NEW. THE VEHICLE NOW BELONGS TO MY SON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE HONDA DEALER FOR MAINTENANCE SINCE I PURCHASED IT. APPROX. 6 MONTHS AGO MY SON WAS STOPPED BY THE POLICE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DUE TO THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT AND ALL OF THE TAIL LIGHTS BEING IN-OP. IT WAS TAKEN IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE BULBS DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND THE LIGHT STILL DID NOT WORK. THEY COULD NOT FIGURE IT OUT. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MEINEKE FOR STATE INSPECTION AND OF COURSE IT COULD NOT PASS DUE TO THE LIGHTS. WHEN THE MECHANIC LOOK AT THE WIRING IT HAD BEEN SLICED IN THREE DIFFERENT PLACES AND TAPED BACK TOGETHER. THE WIRING HAD EITHER BEEN JIMMIED APART, OR SOMETHING SNAGGED THEM. I NEVER ADDED ANYTHING TO THE CAR. IT BELONG TO ME UNTIL SEPT LAST YEAR. IT IS APPARENT IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY THIS WAY. IT COST SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO CORRECT. WHEN TRAVELING OVER A BUMP OR BUMPPY ROAD THE BRAKE PEDAL OF MY HONDA CIVIC HYBRID BECOMES SOFT AND INEFFECTIVE UNTIL AFTER I HAVE PASSED OVER THE BUMPS. *TR
1) SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2005 (NEW), PERIODICALLY THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM KICKS IN FOR NO APPARENT REASON (WHILE I AM BRAKING, OF COURSE). 2) UNDER THE ABOVE SITUATION, AS WELL AS AT OTHER TIMES WHEN THE ANTILOCK BRAKES KICK IN, I CANNOT GET THE ABS TO DISENGAGE NO MATTER WHAT I DO, UNTIL THE CAR HAS REACHED A COMPLETE STOP. 3) INTERMITTENTLY, THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, WHEN IT KICKS IN, THE CAR WILL TAKE AN EXCEEDINGLY LONG, VERY VERY EXCEEDINGLY LONG TIME TO STOP. VERY EXCEEDING LONG. AT ALMOST ALL THESE TIMES, I WAS ALREADY GOING VERY SLOWLY TOWARD A STOP SIGN, STOPLIGHT OR APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION TO TURN. IT SEEMS THAT THE WHEELS LOCK UP AND THE CAR JUST SLIDES. AS A RESULT OF #3, I HAVE RUN INNUMERABLE STOP SIGNS, A FEW STOP LIGHTS, THE OTHER NIGHT I ALMOST HIT A CAR HEAD ON, MISSED THE TURNOFF TO MY STREET BY ALMOST 200 FEET, MISSED MY DRIVEWAY BY ABOUT 100 FEET. THIS WAS ON SNOWY, WET SLUSHY ROADS. BUT, I WILL TELL YOU WHEN APPROACHING THE INTERSECTIONS AND TURNS, I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN GOING SLOWER WITHOUT BEING AT ALMOST A DEAD STANDSTILL. IT IS VERY FORTUNATE THAT IN EACH CASE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. BUT, THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT IS THE WAY THE ABS SYSTEM WORKS, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT AND NEVERTHELESS THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. HAS ANYONE ELSE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM? UNWANTED AND UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING HONDA CIVIC HYBRID CAR ON THE BUCKHORN MOUNTAIN ROAD WEST OF FORT COLLINS COLORADO. THE CAR WAS ONLY STOPPED BY APPLYING BRUTE FORCE WITH ALL MY WEIGHT TO THE BRAKES. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STOPPED ON ONE OF THE FEW STRAIGHT STRETCHES ON THIS NARROW, GRAVEL ROAD. THE ENGINE RACED AT ITS HIGHEST SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO PARK AND TURNED OFF, BEFORE IT CAUGHT FIRE. IT WOULD NOT RETURN TO NORMAL IDLE SPEED, EVEN AFTER I RESTARTED THE ENGINE A COUPLE OF TIME. WE ENDED UP LEAVING THE CAR ON THE ROAD AND IT WAS EVENTUALLY RETURNED TO TOWN. THE SHOP WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE SITUATION, BUT I AM WORRIED AFTER READING ABOUT THE TOYOTA PROBLEMS WHICH SOUND SIMILAR. THE SHOP HAS REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR CABLE AND FLOOR MATS, THINKING IT MIGHT BE A SIMILAR SITUATION. NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO DRIVE THE CAR OUT OF TOWN INTO THE MOUNTAINS. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE THE PROBLEM SUDDENLY OCCURRED AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT JUST A FEW MILES FURTHER ON THIS ROAD. LAST AUGUST 2009, I EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE 3 TIMES WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 HONDA CIVIC. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS NO BRAKING. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HONDA DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY ADJUSTED THE BRAKES AND DOCUMENTED IT WAS REPAIRED. THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN TWO DAYS LATER AND THIS TIME, THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE ADVISED ME IN WRITING TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND TO BRING IT BACK. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I HASSLED WITH THEM AND THE NATIONAL AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATION CUSTOMER SERVICE AND GOT NO SATISFACTION, NO REPAIR. IN THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT DOCUMENTATION THEY TRIED TO CLAIM THAT MY BRAKE SHOES WERE WORN OUT, BUT THAT WAS NOT TRUE AS THEY HAD BEEN INSTALLED JUST ONE MONTH BEFORE AND SUBSEQUENTLY WHEN INDEPENDENT MECHANICS LOOKED AT THEM, THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE SHOES AND ROTORS WERE FINE. INDEPENDENT MECHANICS ADVISED ME TO GET THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER CHANGED. FOR 3 MONTHS I DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR, I DOCUMENTED THE PROBLEM IN DETAIL AND TRIED TO PERSUADE HONDA TO FIX IT. THEIR FLAT OUT REFUSAL BY DENYING THERE WAS A PROBLEM (I HAD THE CAR TOWED 3 TIMES TO THE DEALER AFTER EACH EPISODE OF BRAKE FAILURE) WAS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. FINALLY, IN OCTOBER 2009, I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO ANOTHER GARAGE AND THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE BRAKES HAVE NOT FAILED SINCE, BUT WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT THE OTHER DAY, IT SEEMED THAT THE PEDAL WAS ONCE AGAIN SLOWLY CREEPING TOWARD THE FLOOR. THIS IS HOW THE PROBLEM HAD STARTED SO I'M WONDERING IF IT TRULY HAS BEEN FIXED. I HAVE MUCH DOCUMENTATION OF THE ABOVE EVENTS. THE NEWS OF THE RECALL THAT JUST OCCURRED WITH HONDA VEHICLES HAVING "SOFT BRAKES" MATCHED EXACTLY THE DESCRIPTION OF MY PROBLEM WITH SUBSEQUENT BRAKE FAILURE, SO THAT GRABBED MY ATTENTION. WHEN THE KEY WAS REMOVED OCCASIONALLY THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO PLACE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. SHE REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V364000, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IGNITION, AND SHE CONTACTED HONDA WHO STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE SYMPTOMS WERE IDENTICAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
