WAS THE 3RD CAR IN A 3 CAR ACCIDENT ON I-5 NORTH HEADING TO SEATTLE GOING 60MPH. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, BUT NOT THE DRIVER'S SIDE, AND THERE WAS ONLY THE DRIVER IN THE CAR. *TR
A/C STOPPED WORKING ON MY 2005 HONDA CIVIC. BROUGHT IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID A ROCK HIT CONDENSER AND CAUSED THE FREON TO LEAK. $900 TO FIX AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
AT ONLY 4 YEARS OF AGE, MY HONDA CIVIC HYBRID NEEDS A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET, COMING ACROSS HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF POSTS ON VARIOUS WEB SITES, IT SEEMS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE REPLACING THEIR HONDA CIVIC CATALYTIC CONVERTERS BEFORE THE CAR TURNS 5 YEARS OLD. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PART, OVER $1200 TO REPLACE, SO WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL ON THIS PART. IF IT IS NOT REPLACED IN CARS, I AM TOLD THAT THE CAR EMITS BAD GASES IN THE AIR. I LIVE IN A COUNTY WHERE EMISSIONS IS NOT PART OF THE INSPECTION, SO I WANT IT REPLACED, BUT CAN'T AFFORD IT AND DON'T HAVE TO REPLACE IT. WITH THAT MANY GOING BAD, CAN'T THERE BE A RECALL SO THESE CARS DO NOT EMIT BAD GASES IN THE AIR??? *TR
Hagerstown Honda is 80 plus miles away from my house. My ignition failed which is a very common problem in that generation of all Honda vehicles. My ignition failed and I had it replaced by a local mechanic with genuine Honda parts. All dealerships including Honda run a monopoly on reprogramming ignition. The local mechanic taped the old key under the dash to get the car started. Not long after my hybrid battery failed and I had it replaced at Hagerstown Honda. I told them to reprogram the ignition. They said they would do it and never did it. Not long after the car refused to start and I found out from the local mechanic that Hagerstown Honda never reprogrammed the ignition. Car has sat in my driveway for years with me renewing tags. Honda started calling me and sending me letters via USPS about thd airbag. I told them to not call me anymore. My father had the same problem with his 2004 Honda Accord. Honda stalked and harassed us for years, supposedly on behalf of your agency. Honda has violated FCC regulations. I wrote a letter to Maryland state and they forwarded it to Honda serving as a cease and disist. They haven't complied. I sent a copy a complaint to your agency which was forwarded to Honda and they decided to stalk and harass me through email. I've had to unsubscribe twice. The car has been sitting so long the frame is probably totaled. I want a new car or money in the equivalent to a new car and compensated for the harassment.
WHILE ACCELERATING MODERATELY, OFTEN WHILE TRYING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY OR EVEN WHILE TRYING TO MAINTAIN SPEED UP A HILL, OUR 2005 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID WOULD SLIP OUT OF GEAR AND THE ENGINE WOULD SUDDENLY REV UP TO REDLINE RPM (IT IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT REPRODUCE THIS EVENT. AFTER A FEW MONTHS, THIS STARTED HAPPENING QUITE OFTEN -- EVERY DAY IN PREDICTABLE LOCATIONS ON OUR DRIVING ROUTE. IN ADDITION, A JUDDER DEVELOPED WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP. THIS LATTER ISSUE WAS IDENTIFIED BY HONDA AND A TECHNICAL BULLETIN WAS PUT OUT. THE JUDDER MADE THE CAR NEARLY UNDRIVABLE, SO WE AGAIN TOOK THE CAR IN. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS REPLACED AND THE CLUTCH PLATES WERE BURNISHED. THE TRANMISSION SLIPPAGE AND ENGINE REVVING DISAPPEARED. NOW, 5 MONTHS LATER, THE TRANSMISSION SLIP WITH ENGINE REVVING HAS RETURNED AS WELL AS THE JUDDER STARTING AGAIN. WE PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, SO THE COST HAS NOT BEEN AN ISSUE SO FAR, HOWEVER OUR WARRANTY EXPIRES IN JUNE 2010. WE ARE MAINLY CONCERNED WITH THE REPEATED APPEARANCE OF THE PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY THAT THE TRANSMISSION SLIP/ENGINE REVVING CAN BE A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE ON AN ON-RAMP OR PASS A CAR ON A TWO-LANE ROAD. IF THE ENGINE SLIPS OUT OF GEAR WHILE PASSING A CAR, IT MAY HAVE TRAGIC RESULTS.
HONDA RECALL FOR JUDDER IN CVT ON 2005 HYBRID. REPAIRED (I BELIEVE BY BURNISHING THE CLUTCH?); HOWEVER, CONDITION IS RECURRING, GRADUALLY GETTING WORSE. I HAVE HEARD MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM IN OTHER CVTS. MY SONS RECENTLY HAD THE SAME REPAIR DONE TO HIS. *TR
2005 HONDA CIVIC SEVERAL FAILURES. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED SUDDENLY AND THE FRONT SUSPENSION COLLAPSED. HE STATED THE BALL BEARING CAGE COULD NOT BE LUBRICATED. WITHOUT LUBRICATION, THE BALL BEARINGS CAN GRIND THEMSELVES INTO DUST. THE ALUMINUM KNUCKLES FRACTURED BECAUSE THE WHEELS WERE NOT SUPPORTED. *JB

2005 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID CVT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 42,000 MILES. CAR WILL NOT SHIFT IN ANY GEAR. CONTACT HONDA AMERICAN REPRESENTATIVE, AND HONDA WILL NOT COVERED THIS INCIDENT UNDER WARRANTY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. $4,500 ~ $5,200 REPLACEMENT JOB AT LOCAL HONDA DEALER. MOST HORRIBLE CAR I'D EVER OWN!!! VERY DISAPPOINT WITH HONDA. BUYERS BEWARE WITH HONDA HYBRID MODEL. *TR
AFTER I PUSHED THE SEAT BACK TO ALLOW MORE ROOM BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE SEAT THE AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS BEEN ON THE ENTIRE TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN. THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY AND THE CAR IS NOW NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE NOT GONE TO THE DEALER SINCE I HAVE READ WHERE HONDA HAS KNOWN OF THE PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEMS AND DEALERS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CAR OWNERS CHARGING THEM FOR VARIOUS REPAIRS THAT DON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
OWNER OF A 2005 HONDA CIVIC LX FOUR-DOOR. HAVING 62,000 MILES ON IT, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER BRINGING THE CAR INTO THE UNION PARK DEALERSHIP HERE IN WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TOTAL COST FOR REPLACEMENT WAS $448.00. I BELIEVE IT IS TOTALLY UNREASONABLE THAT THE ALTERNATOR SHOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT 62,000 MILES, WAS VERY COSTLY TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE, AND AS A RESULT HAS LEFT ME OUT OF FUNDS TO HAVE ROUTINE PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE OF TRANSMISSION FLUID AND RADIATOR COOLANT FLUSHED/REPLACED BEFORE THIS COMING WINTER. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS PROOF THAT HONDA IS USING INFERIOR PRODUCTS IN THEIR HONDA CIVIC VEHICLES, AS EVIDENCED BY ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT IN LESS THAN THREE YEARS, AND THE REAR CONTROL ROD DEFECT RELATED TO THE 2007 CIVIC EX. THIS IS ONE OF MANY RECENT DEFECTS/RECALLS I HAVE EXPERIENCED RELATED TO HONDA'S CIVIC '07 AND '05 AUTOMOBILES. ALSO HAVING A 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX, WITH ONLY 22,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, I HAD THE WHEELS ROTATED BY UNION PARK DEALERSHIP. AFTER GETTING VEHICLE BACK AND EXPERIENCING A HOWLING NOISE WHILE DRIVING, I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN. AFTER DOING MY OWN INVESTIGATION, AND NEVER BEING INFORMED OF A RECALL ISSUE RELATED TO THE REAR CONTROL ARMS/RODS BEING DEFECTIVE BY HONDA, I HAD TO PAY $337.00 OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED. IT IS FROM THIS POINT FORWARD THAT I PRAY NOTHING ELSE GOES WRONG WITH THESE VEHICLES, AND THAT LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE, AFTER BEING A FOUR-TIME HONDA VEHICLE OWNER, I WILL NOT BE CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE OF ANOTHER HONDA VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. IT USUALLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT 40 MPH AND ABOVE. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS (LIKE WHEN YOU'RE COMING OUT OF THE TOLLS). I HAD THE BURNISH PROCEDURE DONE LAST IN THE FALL/WINTER OF LAST YEAR. WITHIN THE LAST MONTH, THE TRANSMISSION HAS SLIPPED A BETTER PART OF 10 TIMES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE INCIDENT. JUST THIS PAST WEEKEND, BETWEEN 40 AND 60 MPH, IT SLIPPED 3 TIMES IN A ROW. THE NEXT DAY, AT ABOUT 68 MPH, THE RPMS STAYED AT 3000. IT'S NORMALLY AROUND 25-2600 RPM. AGAIN, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME IF I BRING THE CAR BACK AGAIN, I WILL BE CHARGED $87 PER HOUR, EVEN THOUGH IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE HAS BEEN OCCURRING ABOUT 3-5 TIMES A WEEK. NEVER WHEN I AM AT THE HONDA DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN ONLY DO SOMETHING IF THEY CAN SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING AND TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK WHEN IT IS HAPPENING CONSISTENTLY. *TR

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MODERATE INJURIES. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE COLLISION CENTER. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 48,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT INDICATOR REMAINS ILLUMINATED, EVEN WHEN THE SEAT BELT IS LOCKED IN PLACE. THE FAILURE OCCURS FREQUENTLY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 104,000.
AFTER ABOUT 75,000 MILES ON MY 2005 HONDA CIVIC, I BEGAN TO NOTICE I GOT A HEADACHE AND UPSET STOMACH WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER DISCOVERED A CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD, AND INDICATED THE POSSIBILITY OF CARBON MONOXIDE ENTERING THE CABIN DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. I HAVE NOT YET REPAIRED THE CONDITION SINCE THE REPAIR COST IS VERY HIGH, ABOUT $1000. I HAVE SINCE HEARD THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND NOT A RESULT OF AGE OR ABUSE. *TR
AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER IS NOT PROTECTED AND THE DEALER SAID EVEN SMALLEST PEBBLE CAN PUNCTURE. *TR
MY 2005 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID STARTED TO EXHIBIT TRANSMISSION JUDDER WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AND SLIPPAGE WHENEVER I ACCELERATED WHILE MOVING WITH APPROXIMATELY 65,000 ON THE ODOMETER (MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THIS TIME). I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THEY CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND PERFORMED NO ADDITIONAL WORK TO THE TRANSMISSION. I STARTED TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AT 90,000 MILES AND DID NOT HAVE TIME TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BUT MADE THEM AWARE OF MY CAR'S PROBLEM. MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED SINCE THEN BUT I HAVE LEARNED THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED FOR MY MODEL AND YEAR CAR. HONDA OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM UP TO 105,000 MILES. PROBLEM IS THAT I NOW HAVE 114,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. I FEEL THE PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED WHEN IT FIRST STARTED EXHIBITING SIGNS OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AT 65,000 MILES. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME THEY CAN CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID BUT THEY SAID THE PROBLEM IS LIKELY TO OCCUR AGAIN. I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A CAR COMPANY THAT KNOWS THEIR PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE AND HAS EVEN ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT FIX MY CAR, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS AND WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT 65,000 MILES. *TR

MY SPECIFICATION SHEET ON MY CAR STATES THAT I HAVE SIDE AIRBAGS WHICH IS ONE OF THE IMPORTANT REASONS I BOUGHT THE CAR. THE ACCIDENT TOTALED MY VEHICLE BUT THE SIDE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED. THE ALTERNATOR GAVE OUT WITH ONLY 46,800 MILES ON MY '05 CIVIC. WHEN I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA ABOUT THIS - SINCE THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE - THE REP TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR EVALUATION. I EXPLAINED TO HER THAT YOU DON'T SIMPLY TAKE A CAR WITH A DEAD ALTERNATOR FROM PLACE TO PLACE - TOWING WOULD HAVE TO BE ARRANGED AND I WASN'T PAYING FOR ANOTHER TOW JOB. $520 LATER AND HAD TO HAVE THE BATTERY REPLACED TOO. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY 2005 HONDA CIVIC FOR LESS THEN 5 MONTHS AND I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE MY A/C CONDENSER ONCE IN MAY 08 AND I HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN 6/08. IT COST ME ABOUT 500 TO 600 DOLLARS TO FIX THIS BECAUSE OF A DESIGN FLAW. THIS IS NOT MY FAULT I DON'T DRIVE LIKE A CRAZY PERSON. THIS IS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN AND HONDA SHOULD PAY FOR IT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND TOOK A LEFT TURN GOING TO FAST ABOUT 40-50 AND THE CAR ROLLED OVER UPSIDE DOWN. THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T GO OFF WHILE I WAS HANGING UPSIDE DOWN. *TR
MY MOM JUST BOUGHT ME A 2005 HONDA CIVIC ABOUT 6 WEEKS. MY A/C WAS NOT BLOWING OUT COLD AIR SO IT WAS TAKEN TO THE HONDA DEALER SHIP AND I FOUND OUT THAT A PEBBLE HAD HIT THE A/C CONDENSER CAUSING A LEAK. AND ITS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS GOING TO COST ME ABOUT 700 DOLLARS. ITS A DESIGN FLAW. I WAS RESEARCHING ON LINE ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO ANYONE ELSE AND THERE ARE ALOT. HONDA SHOULD COVER THE COST OF A NEW A/C CONDENSER BECAUSE OF THERE DESIGN FLAW. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND REMAINS THERE TO DATE. THE DEALER STATED THAT DUE TO THE MILEAGE THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE NEW TRANSMISSION. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 48,000. UPDATED 06/02/08 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AND EVEN THOUGH EDMUNDS.COM HAD A RUNNING BLOG APPARENTLY SIMILAR TRANSMISSION FAILURES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE VEHICLE HAS A SPECIAL TRANSMISSION, WHICH DOES NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE RPM'S INCREASED TO 5,200. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A LACK OF HORSE POWER AND DECELERATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SHIFTER WAS DESIGNED TO WORK IN THIS MANNER AND THERE WAS NO REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT SWERVED TO AVOID STRIKING A CAT AND REAR ENDED A PARKED VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,500. UPDATED 09/16/08 *BF UPDATED 09/19/08. *JB
MY FATHER WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WITH A 1997 CHEVY 1500 PICKUP WHILE DRIVING HIS 2005 HONDA CIVIC. THE DAMAGE TO THE HONDA IS EXTENSIVE. THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND HIS NECK WAS BROKEN. THE DAMAGE LITERALLY PEELED BACK THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND EXPOSED BOTH AIR BAG SENSORS. HE SURVIVED HE ACCIDENT AND IS NOW IN REHAB. WE HAVE TWO OBVIOUS QUESTIONS: 1) WHY DID THE AIR BAG NOT DEPLOY? 2) COULD A BROKEN NECK HAVE BEEN AVOIDED? *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW HONDA CIVIC EX AT/2D ON 1/31/05. UP TO TODAY IT HAS ONLY 22K. IN JUNE 07, THE BATTERY DIED. (WITH LESS THAN 15K MILES). IN JANURARY 08, THE WHEEL BEARING FAILED. THE DEALER REPLACED IT. IN FEBRUARY 08, THE BRAKE STARTED MAKING NOISE. I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER ONE TIME AFTER ANOTHER. THE THIRD TIME WAS IN APRIL 08: THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PAD --- WITH ABOUT 21K MILES, THEY DID NOT EXPECT THE PAD WORE OUT. ALL I HOPED IS HONDA CAN OFFER ME AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, IN CASE SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENED AS THE CAR GETS TO 25K MILES. BUT THEY WOULD NOT DO IT. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER, SAYING I CAN REFER TO IT IF THE SAME PROBLEMS HAPPEN AGAIN. I WISH I CAN HAVE AT LEAST AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM HONDA: SINCE OBVIOUSLY THIS CAR IS WITH A POOR QUALITY. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND HE HAD TO RECEIVE A JUMPSTART. AS OF APRIL 11, 2008, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT THE DEAD BATTERY WAS THE WRONG BATTERY FOR HIS VEHICLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CIVIC. IN AN ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT PLACED HIS KEY INTO THE IGNITION AND STARTED THE VEHICLE, BUT IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE CLUTCH AND SINK ROLLS FAILED. THE CLUTCH AND THE SINK ROLLS WERE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER, WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH IN FIFTH GEAR, THE VEHICLE SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL FOUR TIMES. THE DEALER THEN REPLACED THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,560 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,813.

SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE SUN VISORS DROPPED DOWN AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY FROM A STOP, THE CAR MAKES A HUGE GRINDING NOISE--HEARD MOSTLY IN THE FRONT END. WHEN ACCELERATING SLOWLY, NO NOISE IS HEARD. THE CAR ALSO SLIPS HORRIBLY ON WET OR SLIPPERY PAVEMENT WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. 09/29/07 WE WERE AWAKEN LAST NIGHT BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT BECAUSE OUR '05 HONDA CIVIC'S ENGINE BAY WAS ON FIRE. WE ARE TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS A DEFECT OR NOT. I WAS TRAVELING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHEN I NOTICED THE ENGINE REVVING HIGH. THE AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) IN THE 2005 HONDA CIVIC VP STOPPED WORKING. WHEN I WENT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THE A/C CONDENSER IN THE CAR HAD A PIN HOLE CAUSED BY A ROCK. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT ALTHOUGH THE PART WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY IT WAS VOIDED BY THE ROCK. THE DEALERSHIP HAS QUOTED THE REPAIRS AT $813.00. THE CAR WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. *AK
NEW 2005 HONDA CIVIC XL SPECIAL ADDITION 4-DOOR SEDAN PURCHASED FROM HONDA OF FORT MYERS 7-21-05. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE MALFUNCTION LIGHT ON THE DASH INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM BEGAN TO LIGHT UP. IT WAS ON ALL THE TIME. THE MANUAL STATED THAT YOU SHOULD GO TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE IT CHECKED IF THIS HAPPENS AS CONTINUED OPERATION MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. WE HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS 8-20-05, 8-30-05, 12-22-06, 5-9-07. THE LIGHT WOULD GO OUT FOR 2-3 DAYS AFTER BEING WORKED ON IN THE SHOP AND COME BACK ON. THIS HAS BEEN AN EXTREME SOURCE OF FRUSTRATION AND CONCERN. THE CAR HAS DEVELOPED AN ADDITIONAL SYMPTOM OF STUMBLING AND LOSING POWER WHEN TRYING TO BLEND INTO TRAFFIC. WE HAVE JUST LIVED WITH THIS THINKING "WELL, WHAT CAN WE DO". BUT I'M CONVINCED THAT SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE KNOWS WHAT TO DO TO FIX THIS. I AM GOING TO MAKE IT MY PROJECT TO WORK TOWARD THAT END. THIS IS A 2005 CIVIC HYBRID. A FEW TIMES THE TRANSMISSION HAS ALLOWED THE ENGINE TO INCREASE ITS RPM'S TO A "REDLINE" LEVEL, THEN ENGAGES AND SURGES FORWARD. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED THUS FAR, BUT COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS ON SURFACE STREETS. ALSO, I HAVE ISSUE WITH THE WAFER THIN WINDSHIELD. I HAVE 3 CRACKS IN IT FROM 18 MONTHS OF DRIVING FROM ROAD PEBBLES. PURCHASED VEHICLE NEW 7/6/05. ON 12/18/06, 31K MILES, BROUGHT IT TO DEALER WITH SRS LIGHT ON. DEALER DETERMINED THE PASSENGER SEATBELT TENSIONER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. REPAIR WAS EFFECTED. SRS LIGHT ON AGAIN, BROUGHT TO DEALER 1/2/07, 32.5K MILES. THE PASSENGER SEATBELT BUCKLE WAS REPLACED. SRS LIGHT ON AGAIN (OBSERVED AFTER GOING OVER A SECTION OF UNEVEN PAVEMENT), BROUGHT TO DEALER 1/16/07, 33.4K MILES. I THINK THAT TIME THEY RESET THE COMPUTER COMPONENT. SRS LIGHT ON AGAIN 1/20/07, 33.5K MILES, PASSENGER SEATBELT TENSIONER REPLACED AGAIN. SRS LIGHT ON AGAIN 5/2/07, 39.5K MILES, THE ENTIRE PASSENGER RESTRAINING SYSTEM AND COMPUTER COMPONENT WERE REPLACED BY DEALER. SRS LIGHT ON AGAIN 6/5/07, 41K MILES, CAR IS WITH DEALER NOW. DURING THIS TIME I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE ANY ACTION THAT TRIGGERS THE SRS LIGHT TO COME ON. THIS LAST TIME THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD BEEN EMPTY FOR THE PREVIOUS 2 DAYS.

WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 25 MPH ON ICY ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE DID NOT DECREASE IN SPEED AND SUDDENLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT DECIDED TO CONTINUE DRIVING FORWARD WITH HER FOOT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. LATER, THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE RPMS CONTINUED TO INCREASE AND SHE BEGAN TAPPING THE PEDAL UNTIL THE RPMS DECREASED. THE FRONT SEATS IN MY 2005 HONDA CIVIC LX COUPE ROCK CONSTANTLY. THE DRIVER'S SEAT FAILS MORE OFTEN THAN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THEY BOTH ROCK DIAGONALLY - BACK LEFT TO FRONT RIGHT. ABOUT EVERY 10,000 - 15,000 MILES, I NEED TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM "FIX" THIS PROBLEM. THEY USUALLY REPLACE SOME BUSHINGS IN THE SEAT BASE, WHICH HELPS FOR ABOUT 10-15,000 MILES, AND THEN THEY START ROCKING AGAIN. NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY IS DONE TO CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. IN LIGHT OF THE CURRENT ISSUES WITH TOYOTA, I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT TO YOU A SIMILAR PROBLEM I WAS HAVING WITH MY 2005 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID (I NO LONGER HAVE THE VEHICLE). I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIRS, BUT DID NOT RECEIVE A SATISFACTORY RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT. THIS WAS NOT JUST ONE EVENT, IT HAPPENED OFTEN. DATE GIVEN BELOW IS JUST A RANDOM DATE FROM THE TIME I OWNED THE VEHICLE. WHENEVER I APPROACHED A STOPPING POINT, BE IT A STOP LIGHT, STOP SIGN, OR PARKING SPOT, WHILE HAVING THE BRAKES APPLIED, IF I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD, SUCH AS A POTHOLE OR LOW TRAFFIC LIGHT SENSOR, THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY GET A BURST OF ACCELERATION. IT WOULD RESPOND TO MY ADDED BRAKE PRESSURE, BUT ALWAYS LEFT ME WITH AN EERIE FEELING. THE DEALERSHIPS RESPONSE WAS THAT IT WAS THE ABS TAKING CONTROL. NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT. SINCE I NO LONGER HAVE THE VEHICLE, I DO NOT READILY HAVE THE VIN #. IF IT BECOMES ESSENTIAL, I SURE IT IS PROBABLY IN THE FILES I HAVE IN STORAGE AND CAN DIG IT UP FOR YOU. *TR

REVERSE IN A HONDA CIVIC MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM IS ENGAGING REVERSE IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. WHEN I NEED TO REVERSE I MOVE THE TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE AND RELEASE THE CLUTCH. A GRINDING NOISE OCCURS AND THE GRINDING NOISE GETS LOUDER IF I GIVE IT MORE GAS WHILE THE CLUTCH IS NOT ENGAGED. IT TAKES ME A WHILE TO TRY AND GET REVERSE ENGAGED AND IT IS VERY ANNOYING AND DANGEROUS. I AM HAVING PROBLEMS EVERYDAY WITH THIS AND I JUST HAD IT IN FOR A SERVICE AND ASKED THE DEALER TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. THE DEALER LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM AND SAID THAT THIS IS COMMON IN EVERY HONDA CIVIC TRANSMISSION. REVERSE DOES NOT HAVE A SYNCHRONIZED GEAR AND I WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. EVEN IF THEY REPLACED MY ENTIRE TRANSMISSION, THE PROBLEM WILL STILL EXIST. I EVEN GOT A SERVICE TECH TO DRIVE MY CAR AND HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. HE SAID HE HAD A CIVIC AND IT DOES THE SAME THING. THE DEALER SAID WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS (FOR ME JUST ABOUT EVERYTIME I NEED REVERSE) I NEED TO PUT THE SHIFTER INTO FIRST OR SECOND GEAR AND THEN TRY REVERSE. IF IT DOESN'T WORK, THEN I HAVE TO TRY IT AGAIN. SOMETIMES I FIND MYSELF IN TIGHT SITUATIONS AND AM NOT ABLE TO GET THE TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE FOR 30 SECONDS OR MORE. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS AND ANNOYING. HONDA NEEDS TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS IF EVERY HONDA CIVIC TRANSMISSION IS LIKE THIS. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS.
