There was a recall on the 2006 Honda Civic EX Sun Visors which Honda replaced only to have it break again. I think Honda should be responsible to replace and to ensure it stays intact. I WAS DRIVING ON THE NJ PARKWAY COMING HOME FROM WORK AND THERE WAS A LOUD CRACK NOISE, AT FIRST I THOUGHT I GOT HIT ON MY WINDSHIELD BY A ROCK, THEN ABOUT 5 SECONDS LATER MY PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR LOWERED AND IT IS BROKEN ON THE INSIDE OF THE PLASTIC. NOW IT WILL NOT STAY UP AND CAUSES A DISTRACTION TO ME WHILE I'M DRIVING. I CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WILL NOT ASSIST IN ANY WAY IN REPLACING A VISOR THAT THEY KNOW IS BAD.
L/H SUN VISOR ASSY OF OUR 2006 HONDA CIVIC EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC MECHANICAL FAILURE. MODE OF FAILURE WAS SPLITTING OF A BONDED JOINT OF THE UPPER AND LOWER PLASTIC PIECES THAT SURROUND & CAPTURE L/H (PRIMARY) ROTATION MECHANISM. INTERNAL MECHANISM IMPARTS SIGNIFICANT INTERNAL STRESS ON THE BONDED JOINT EACH TIME SUN VISOR RE-POSITIONED. UNDAMAGED SEAM GIVES ROTATIONAL RESISTANCE WHEN VISOR IS STOWED OR FULLY FORWARD (SOMEWHAT OUT OF THE DRIVER'S FIELD OF VIEW). THIS FATIGUE-INDUCED FAILURE MODE PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. THE VISOR ASSEMBLY FAILS IN THE WORSE POSSIBLE POSITION: HANGING VERTICALLY DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER OBSCURING SIGHT THROUGH THE UPPER SECTION OF THE WINDSCREEN. THE DEFECTIVE SUN VISOR IS A CONSTANT DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER. IT CANNOT BE ROTATED AROUND THE PRINCIPAL AXIS INTO ANOTHER POSITION WITHOUT IMMEDIATELY FALLING DIRECTLY BACK INTO THE DRIVER'S LINE OF SIGHT. THE FAILED SUN VISOR COMPLETELY OBSCURES OVERHEAD TRAFFIC SIGNALS AND SIGNAGE. THIS MODEL YEAR HONDA CIVIC HAS A DOCUMENTED HISTORY OF THIS PARTICULAR FAILURE MODE. A CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT CIRCA 2011 WAS APPLICABLE ONLY TO VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 100K MILES OR 7 YEARS (REF: "SETTLEMENT WEBSITE FOR COOPER, ET AL. V. AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC., ' CASE NO. BC 448670"; URL: HTTP://SETTLEMENT-CLAIMS.COM/VISORSETTLEMENT/). THIS PARTICULAR VISOR FAILURE OCCURRED SOON AFTER A LIMITED 'EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD.' OUR VEHICLE'S ODOMETER READING IS 103,574 MILES. PRIMARY DRIVER NOTICED THE VISOR BECOMING "LOOSE" BUT UNTIL IT FAILED COMPLETELY, IT MAINTAINED COMPLETE FUNCTIONALITY (I.E., WOULD STOW & STAY). AS THE DEFECTIVE BOND IS EFFECTIVELY HIDDEN, THE DRIVER CANNOT EASILY VISUALIZE ANY PROGRESSIVE FAILURE OF THE FATIGUING BOND FAILURE. NEITHER OF DRIVERS RECALLS RECEIVING INFORMATION FROM HONDA WARNING OF THIS POTENTIAL FAILURE OR AVAILABLE REMEDIES.
TAKATA RECALL COMPLAINT SUN VISORS FELL APART CAUSING HARM, INJURY
SUN VISOR GLUE MELTS IN THE HEAT AND THE SUN VISOR STOPS FUNCTIONING AND CREATES A VISIBILITY PROBLEM. ALSO, PIECES OF PLASTIC CAN FLAKE OFF AND FALL ON THE DRIVER, POTENTIALLY GETTING IN THE DRIVER'S EYE WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD SO MANY ISSUES WITH MY CIVIC, NOT LIMITED TO A SCATTERED TRANSMISSION (~110K), A LED BRAKE LIGHT GOING OUT (~90K), AND NOW IT LOOKS LIKE THE 10-048 CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK (JUST RECENTLY).
BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISORS ARE FAILING TO FUNCTION AS INTENDED. THE DRIVER SIDE WAS UNABLE RETURN TO THE STOWED POSITION BLOCKING VISIBILITY FORCING THE DRIVER TO DUCK BELOW IN ORDER THE MAINTAIN VISIBILITY OF THE ROAD WHEN APPROACHING STEEP GRADES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER ENTERING THE VEHICLE THE REAR WINDSHIELD STARTED TO DEVELOP A CRACK AND THE CRACK WAS EXPANDING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRACK WAS CAUSED BY THE REAR DEFROSTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT NO REMEDY WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
I REPORTED TO HONDA DEALER THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE NOT PARKING PROPERLY. OPEN ROAD HONDA CHARGED $62 FOR A "DIAGNOSIS FEE" AND REPORTED THAT A NEW MOTOR WAS NEEDED THAT WILL COST $374.41. A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWS HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. IT WOULD SEEM THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE CORRECTING THE PROBLEM AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. *JS
WHEN IT IS NEAR FREEZING OR BELOW OUTSIDE, MY WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES BEHAVE ERRATICALLY. THE INTERMITTENT SETTING STOPS WORKING AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS KEEP GOING. THE SLOW SPEED AND HIGH SPEED WORK. HOWEVER, WHEN I TURN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS OFF, THEY TAKE AWHILE TO STOP AND STOP IN RANDOM LOCATIONS ON THE WINDSHIELD. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON 4/17/2014 AND I RECORDED A VIDEO WHILE SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES CAN STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND OBSTRUCT MY VISION. WE ASKED THE DEALER TO FIX IT AND THEY WANT TO GET PAID TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. *TR
SUN VISORS ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE BROKE, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO RAISE AND LOWER. I CAN SEE THIS BEING DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SAYS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ISSUED A WHILE BACK, BUT IT NOW FALLS OUT OF THAT EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THEY CANNOT REPLACE IT. SINCE THIS IS AN EARLIER DESIGN ISSUE, ALL CASES OF FAILED VISORS SHOULD BE ACCOMMODATED AND NOT DEPENDENT ON VIN. *TR
THE SUN VISOR ON DRIVER SIDE CRACKED AND WILL NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT BY HONDA FOR 2006 TO 2008 HONDA CIVICS. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST HONDA. THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 7 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES. I AM AT 102,934 MILES. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT AND HONDA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. I WOULD EXPECT THAT THIS WOULD BE FIXED FREE OF CHARGE. *JB

THE WIPERS WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY. A FEW DAYS AGO ON INTERMITTENT, THEY WENT 5 TIMES, STOPPED/PAUSED, THEN 3 TIMES AND THEN A FEW MORE TIMES, THEN STOPPED AGAIN. LATER ON THAT DAY, THEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF AT ALL UNLESS I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. TODAY ON THE WAY TO WORK, ON A HIGHWAY IN THE RAIN, MY WIPERS STOPPED ALTOGETHER WHICH WAS SCARY AS IMMEDIATELY I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING FOR A FEW SECONDS. I MOVED THE WIPER ARM AROUND AND THEY STARTED AGAIN. WHEN I GOT TO WORK, THEY WOULDN'T STOP AND AGAIN, I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF TO MAKE THEM STOP. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE IN ANY CAR I HAVE OWNED. *TR
MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON MY HONDA CIVIC EX 2006 VEHICLE ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT THEY WON'T TURN OFF MOST OF THE TIME AND WHEN THEY DO, THEY PARK ANYWHERE ON THE WINDSHIELD, WHICH IS OFTEN IN MY FIELD OF VISION. THE INTERMITTENT SETTING DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. WHEN I USE ANY SPEED SETTING, THE WIPERS GO AT THE SAME SPEED AND DO NOT TURN OFF WHEN I PUT IN THE STOP POSITION. IT IS VERY DISTRACTING WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC NOT KNOWING WHEN THE WIPERS WILL DECIDE TO STOP AND WHERE ON THE WINDSHIELD THEY WILL STOP. SOMETIMES THEY STOP IN MY FIELD OF VISION AND I NEED TO QUICKLY START THEM AGAIN SO I CAN SEE, NOT KNOWING WHEN AND/OR WHERE THEY WILL STOP THE NEXT TIME. OFTEN I NEED TO KEEP DOING THIS SO I CAN SAFELY SEE THE ROAD. I HAVE READ MANY POSTS ON THE INTERNET DISCUSSING THIS SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A PROBLEM COMMON TO MY MAKE AND MODEL CAR AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO IDENTIFY THE SPECIFIC CAUSE. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE CAR CAUSING THIS AND THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE MADE TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE SUNVISOR HAS BROKE ONCE ON PASSENGER SIDE-HAD REPLACED. NOW BROKEN AGAIN AND DRIVERS SIDE AS WELL. SAFETY CONCERN AS VISOR NOW HANGS LOSE AND IS IN THE WAY WHILE DRIVING OR CAN NOT BE USED FOR INTENDED PURPOSES OF BLOCKING SUN. *TR
POWER WINDOWS ON FRONT PASSENGER-SIDE AND REAR DRIVER-SIDE NO LONGER GO UP AND DOWN. *JS
