TAKATA RECALL PRIOR TO RECALL, CAR WAS TOTALED DUE TO HEAD ON COLLISION ~ 02/16/2012 IN INTERSECTION WHERE LARGER APPROACHING VEHICLE TURNED LEFT AT UNKNOWN SPEED INTO MY CAR. AIRBAG 'DEPLOYED' SUCH THAT I SUSTAINED TWO BROKEN RIBS ( RT 7,8) AND EXTENSIVE BRUISING WITH PIECES OF PARTS DEBRIS STUCK IN MY CLOTHING. AS THE CAR WAS JUNKED I DIDN'T HAVE THE CORRECT VIN WHEN THE RECALL NOTICE WAS PUBLISHED; MY LOCAL DEALER RECENTLY PROVIDED IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE PARKED, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,200.
THE PAINT STARTED TO PEEL AND WHITE AREAS APPEARED ALL OVER THE BODY OF MY NEW GREY HONDA CIVIC. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE PAINT WAS DEFECTIVE. I GOT A SECOND OPINION WHO ALSO SAID THAT THE PAINT WAS DEFECTIVE AND THERE WAS AN THERMAL ISSUE DURING THE INITIAL APPLICATION PROCESS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPAINT ONLY CERTAIN AREAS AND SAID I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RENTAL CAR. I TOLD THEM I WASN'T COMFORTABLE WITH PARTIALLY PAINTING THE CAR, THAT THE OLDER PAINT WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE AND WOULD OBVIOUSLY FADE TOO. THEY SAID IT WASN'T THEIR PROBLEM AND THEY WOULDN'T DO IT. I WILL NEVER TRUST HONDA AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC EX. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH AND TRAVELED OVER BLACK ICE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLIDE AND THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SLID INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO AVOID A CRASH. THE AIR BAGS THEN PARTIALLY DEPLOYED, WITHOUT THERE BEING ANY AIR IN THE AIR BAGS. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND WAS DESTROYED. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE CONTACT DROVE ICE AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A DITCH AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TAKEN TO A PRIVATE TOW YARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 98,000.
PAINT JOB PEELING
THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR STUCK AND CRACK OPENED THE PLASTIC ASSEMBLY BY WHICH IT HOLDS ITSELF TO THE VISORS METAL ROD IN THE CEILING. AFTER REMOVAL THE THING THAT MAKES THE VISOR SWIVEL FRONT AND BACK IS IN FACT THE THING STUCK(METAL CLIP) AND SEEMS IT MAY NOT BE SECURED TO THE VISOR WHICH AT SOME POINT WILL BRAKE THE VISOR OPEN AS IT HAPPENED , THE PASSENGERS SIDE VISOR IS STARTING TO GET TIGHT. *TR
THE BLACK PAINT ON TOP OF THE ROOF OF MY CIVIC HAS A WHITE FADING HAZE. *TR
WATER PUMP PULLEY/TENSIONER QUIT AT 70 MPH. PUMP AND TENSIONER WERE REPLACED. SIX MONTHS LATER, CAR QUIT AGAIN, SAME THING. ONLY THIS TIME THE BOLT THAT MOUNTS THE TENSIONER SHEARED OFF IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. HONDA HAS RECALLED THIS VEHICLE IN 2006 AND 2007 FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. (SERVICE BULLETIN 248422 AND 248421) AND ACTION NUMBER NHTSA 10026791. NO RECALLS FOR 2008 YET. THEY HAVE REPLACED (UNDER SOME KIND OF WARRANTY) THE ENGINE BLOCK AND THE WATER PUMP/PULLEY/TENSIONER CAUSED BY THE SECOND BREAK DOWN. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL FOR 2008, AS WELL. HONDA NEEDS TO PAY FOR MY FIRST REPAIR, AS WELL. *TR
THE PAINT IS CRACKING AND CHIPPING THE OIL BRACKET NUT IS LEAKING AND WEAK (CAN CAUSE FIRE TO BURN FASTER THAN NORMAL) THE AIR BAG ON LEFT IS DEFECTIVE
I HAD TO HAVE ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC LX AT 34,658 MI. JULY 2010. WHEN I BROUGHT MY CIVIC IN FOR ITS ROUTINE CHECK UP, WHICH I DO WHENEVER I'M AT 15% OIL LIFE, I COMPLAINED OF A ROARING NOISE FROM MY TIRES. THE HONDA TECH GUY SAID MY TIRES WERE BADLY WORN AND SUGGESTED I BUY NEW TIRES IMMEDIATELY. KUHMO TIRES, THE BRAND I BOUGHT FROM HONDA, HAVE A 60000 MI. WARRANTY. THAT SAME ROARING NOISE IS BACK AND I WENT IN FOR MY ROUTINE CHECK UP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TIRES NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 61285 MI. DECEMBER 31, 2011. ONE TECH GUY HINTED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR-UPPER CONTROL ARM CAUSING POSSIBLE PROBLEMS WITH CERTAIN CIVICS. IF THIS IS THE CASE, I WANT IT CORRECTED, AND I WANT MY TIRES REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME. HONDA TELLS ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND WILL ALLOW ME TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR NEW TIRES WHILE THEY TRY TO GET ME A 50% PRORATED REIMBURSEMENT FROM KUHMO. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THIS AT ALL. THIS IS A COSTLY SAFETY ISSUE. THERE HAS BEEN HEAVY RAINFALL IN MY AREA AND MY CAR HYDROPLANES. I TOLD THE HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT THIS, AND THEY SAID THAT IT IS BECAUSE OF MY WORN TIRES. I GET MY TIRES ALIGNED AND ROTATED ON THEIR RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE. IF THERE IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT IS CAUSING THE PREMATURE WEAR OF MY TIRES AND IS PUTTING MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY AS WELL AS OTHERS ON THE ROAD AT RISK, HONDA MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM AND CORRECT IT. *TR
THE FRONT OF HOOD AND FENDER AREA . PAINT IS CHIPPING AWAY. IT IS CALLED CROW'S FEET. LINES AND CHIPS ALONG WITH CRACKS ARE VERY VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE. HONDA HAS A TSB ABOUT IT, SINCE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE BUT THEY ONLY CLAIM TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE VEHICLE THAT HAVE PROTECTION PLAN. WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE THEY NEVER OFFERED ME, NOR SPEAK OF PROTECTION PLAN. SO WHAT CAN I DO? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AIR LEAKED FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE RIM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE WIELD ON TIRE RIM WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED MINOR CUTS AND TWO OTHER PASSENGERS SUFFERED HEAD INJURIES. NONE OF THE PASSENGERS WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO FILE A COMPLAINT BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DECISION ON WHETHER THE VEHICLE WOULD BE DEEMED AS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A SQUIRREL CHEWED A HOLE THROUGH THE FUEL LINES. THE CONTACT SMELLED FUMES AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO REPAIRED THE FUEL LINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR SPLIT OPEN AND NOW DROOPS INTO DRIVERS VISION. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN ICY ROAD CONDITIONS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SLIDE OFF THE ROAD AND CRASH INTO A TREE. THE FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING THE CRASH. THE CONTACT AND THE PASSENGER HAD MULTIPLE INJURIES INCLUDING HEAD INJURIES, BROKEN BONES, AND DAMAGED NERVES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 36,000.
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE BRAKING. I TURNED INTO THE GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT AND HAD MY FOOT PRESSING ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN FOR SOME PEOPLE. I WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO PARK. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR ACCELERATED FORWARD RAPIDLY WHILE I WAS BRAKING. I PRESSED THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN. THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING RAPIDLY. I GRABBED THE PARKING BRAKE WITH MY RIGHT HAND AND STEERED THE WHEEL WITH MY LEFT HAND. I KEPT MY FOOT PRESSING ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING AND HIT METAL RAILING. THE CAR SWERVED TO THE RIGHT AND HIT THE FIRST CONCRETE STEP. THE CAR STOPPED AND I WAS SEVERELY SHAKEN. I TRIED TO GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, BUT IT WOULD NOT COME OUT. A MAN, WOMAN, AND STORE MANAGER KEPT ASKING ME IF I WAS ALRIGHT. SEVERAL POLICE CARS CAME. ONE POLICEMAN INSPECTED THE FLOOR MAT IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT. HE TRIED TO WIGGLE IT. IT ONLY WIGGLED A LITTLE BIT TO THE LEFT AND REMAINED FAR AWAY FROM THE GAS PEDAL, NOT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. HE WIGGLED THE KEY WITH SOME MOTION AND PULLED IT OUT. THE DERRY TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPT. WROTE UP A CRASH INFORMATION REPORT - INCIDENT NUMBER DTR111023005. I AM STILL UPSET AND SHAKEN FROM THIS ACCIDENT. THE SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WAS SO FRIGHTENING AND SO DANGEROUS THAT I NO LONGER TRUSTED THIS CAR. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I TRIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE TEMPERATURE WAS SO HOT THAT IT WAS IN THE RED AREA. I HAD THIS CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, CIOCCA HONDA IN HARRISBURG. I TRADED THIS 2008 HONDA CIVIC FOR A 2012 HONDA CIVIC. IN JUNE 2011, MY 2008 HONDA HAD A COMPLETE INSPECTION AT GOOD'S AUTOMOBILE SERVICE IN HERSHEY, PA. EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL EPISODES WHERE I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. CIOCCA CHECKED MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES AND SAID IT WAS FINE. THE 7/14/2010 SERVICE FORM RECORDED "CUSTOMER STATES VEHICLE ACCELERATES WHEN OFF GAS."
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER IN 2011. WITHIN THE FIRST 30 DAYS I EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE AND A GRINDING SOUND WHEN BRAKING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. I SENT A FORMAL COMPLAINT TO THE HONDA CEO AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE CAR WAS INSPECTED AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. BRAKES SLIP WHEN RIDING ON ROUGH SURFACES OR MAKING A SHARP TURN ON A STEEP INCLINE. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPLICATED; HOWEVER, THE BRAKE PROBLEM PERSISTS. ONCE I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SUDDENLY STOPPED; I ALSO FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND ROLLED INTO THE INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE ON THE ROAD. IF THE BRAKES ARE HIT TWICE (LIKE DOUBLE CLUTCHING) THEY DO ENGAGE. THE COMPLAINT TO HONDA FAILED TO PRODUCE A POSITIVE RESULT. THE PROBLEM INITIALLY BEGAN IN OCTOBER 2011 AND CONTINUES TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY.
THE VEHICLE HAS DEFECTIVE UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND FLANGE BOLTS WHICH CAUSE THE TIRES TO WEAR FAST AND DANGEROUSLY, AS WELL AT CAUSE THE CAR TO SHAKE IN THE BACK WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE CAR AND HONDA WILL PAY FOR IT BUT ONLY IF THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. BY THE TIME I BOUGHT THE CAR AND NOTICED THE PROBLEM IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! IT IS A DEFECT! THEY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT! *TR
AFTER A HOT DAY DRIVING THE CAR VISOR WENT DOWN WHILE ABOUT TO MAKE A RT HAND TURN I ALMOST PULLED OUT VISOR FELL INTO MY VISION. LUCK I STOPPED THERE WAS A CAR COMING. IT HAD SPLIT IN HALF DUE TO THE HEAT. *TR

I HAD PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY EXIT AND PROCEEDED TO FOLLOW THE CARS AHEAD OF ME AS THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL LIGHT HAD TURNED GREEN AND DID NOT NECESSITATE ME STOPPING, ONLY SLOWING DOWN TO CONTINUE MY LEFT HAND TURN ONTO THE SURFACE STREET. SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING THE SUN VISOR FLIPPED DOWN WITHOUT BEING TOUCHED AND HIT ME IN THE FOREHEAD. THE HARD PLASTIC EDGE HIT ME RELATIVELY QUICKLY AND KNOCKED MY PRESCRIPTION GLASSES OFF. THERE WAS A MOMENT WHEN I HAD MY VISION OBSCURED AND DID NOT SEE THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME COME TO A RATHER SUDDEN STOP. I NARROWLY ESCAPED HITTING THE BACK BUMPER OF THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. FORTUNATELY I WAS TRAVELING AT A RELATIVELY LOW RATE OF SPEED, MAYBE 20 MPH WHICH PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CAUSED MINOR DAMAGE, IF ANY. HOWEVER, PEOPLE CAN BE INJURED BY WHIPLASH EVEN IN LOW SPEED REAR-END COLLISIONS. I HAVE SECURED THE VISOR WITH A BUNGEE CORD FOR THE MOMENT BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE CUSTOMERS FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PART PLUS LABOR AND IT IS NOT CHEAP. I AM AFRAID THAT THE BUNGEE CORD MIGHT SNAP AND CAUSE A DIFFERENT SORT OF INJURY; HOWEVER, THERE REALLY IS NO WAY IT WILL STAY UP AGAINST THE INTERIOR CABIN ROOF WITHOUT IT. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT I RECALL MY 2002 HONDA CIVIC HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WHICH OCCURRED ON BOTH THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE AT DIFFERENT TIMES. ALSO, AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE DAY THE SUN IS SO BLINDING IN CALIFORNIA WHERE I LIVE THAT IT IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS TO NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THE ROAD AND HIGHWAY SIGNS AND LIGHTS WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF A VISOR TO BLOCK THE GLARING, BRIGHT LIGHT OF THE SUN. IN MY ESTIMATION IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT CAUSES A MAJOR FATALITY ACCIDENT. *TR
WE'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN A YEAR. IT WAS PURCHASED FOR OUR TEEN DAUGHTER BECAUSE WE THOUGHT IT WAS A SAFE CAR. TODAY, SHE REPORTED THAT ON HER WAY HOME FROM SCHOOL, THE VISOR SPLIT MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO ADJUST WHILE DRIVING. TWO HANDS ARE NEEDED TO ADJUST AND THE SUN WAS BLINDING. THANKFULLY, SHE DIDN'T GET IN AN ACCIDENT. WE FEAR FOR OUR DAUGHTERS SAFETY, AND THAT OF OTHERS, ESPECIALLY AFTER READING THE OTHER 76 VERY SIMILAR VISOR COMPLAINTS. WE HAD HEARD ABOUT SUCH COMPLAINTS BEFORE (NOT REALIZING IT WAS CIVICS) AND THOUGHT IT WAS PRETTY SILLY, HOWEVER, NOW THAT IT'S HAPPENED TO US, IT'S NOT SO SILLY. IT'S SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS. *KB
BOTH DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SUN VISORS CRACKED AND FAIL TO WORK IN THE AREA WHERE VISOR ROTATES. VISORS NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WORK AT ALL. THE CAR IS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC SI SEDAN. *KB
FIRST THING THIS MORNING I TRIED TO SET MY CRUISE CONTROL AT 65 MPH, BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. THE SPEED OF THE CAR KEPT DECREASING, DESPITE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO SET THE CRUISE. I TURNED OFF THE CRUISE AND TRIED TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO DRIVE, AND THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. IN ADDITION, AS I TRIED TO INCREASE MY SPEED, THE CAR MADE A LOUD HUMMING SOUND AND THE RPMS ON THE DASH BEGAN TO INCREASE. THEN AN INDICATOR LIGHT TURNED ON; AFTER DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES, MORE INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON, MY BRAKE STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY, AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. MY GAS PEDAL ALSO STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. AT THIS POINT, AS I WAS GOING UPHILL I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK BECAUSE THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY I COULD STOP THE CAR. SMOKE BEGAN COMING FROM THE HOOD. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE MIDAS IN SALT LAKE CITY AT 875 EAST 2100 SOUTH. THE SERVICE PEOPLE TOLD ME THE CARS ENGINE HAD HEATED SO THAT IT MELTED THE EQUIPMENT UNDER THE HOOD. LATER, AFTER A DISCUSSION WITH THE HONDA CORPORATE OFFICE, I FOUND OUT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED IN AUGUST 2010 FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE BLOCKS OF 2006, 2008, AND SOME 2009 CIVICS. THE HONDA REPRESENTATIVE SAID A LETTER HAD BEEN SENT TO CIVIC OWNERS. HOWEVER, MY EXPERIENCE TODAY SHOWED ME THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS PROBLEM.
