SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR GRINDS AND SOMETIMES 3RD GEAR POPS OUT WHEN SHIFTING AT FAST SPEEDS, OBVIOUSLY WHILE ROLLING. I WENT TO THE O'HARE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN DES PLAINES, IL WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR BRAND NEW WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO REPAIR IT. I ASKED, WHAT IF THE MATTER TURNS INTO A DANGEROUS ACCIDENT? THEY COULDN'T GIVE ME AN ANSWER. PLEASE HELP ME. *TR
THE VISOR DROPPED DOWN, AFFECTING THE VISIBILITY. IT DOES NOT STAY BACK UP, HONDA REFUSES TO REPLACE IT AS A DEFECT. *TR
CAR WAS ON I95 NORTH, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA. IT WAS RAINING. 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYDROPLANED AND FLIPPED THREE TIMES. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *TR
HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH SEAT BELTS ON, BUT NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. TWO DAYS AFTER ACCIDENT, SASH BRUISES ON CHEST INDICATE LEVEL OF IMPACT. HIGH LEVEL OF PAIN IN BREAST BONE AREA. BOTH FRONT PASSENGERS WITH SAME EXPERIENCE. *TR

MIRROR/SHADE DOES NOT GO UP NOT DOWN IT IS STUCK UNABLE TO OPERATE AS A SHADE NOR MIRROR. *TR
THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT AN ISSUE OF QUALITY. I'VE NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH THE PAINT ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC. IT ALL BEGAN WITH A DULL SPOT ON THE TRUNK AND WORSENED WITH DULL SPOTS ON THE ROOF. I CONTACTED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH NO AVAIL. *TR
FRONT BRAKES NEED REPLACING AFTER 15K MILES ONLY TO FIND OUT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH HONDA CIVICS, HOWEVER THE COMPANY DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. FAULTY BRAKES CAN BE A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
DEFECTIVE INFLATION MECHANISM IN DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG. *TR
I FLIPPED THE SUN VISOR DOWN AND FOUND I COULDN'T RETURN IT BACK UP. THE INTERNAL PIVOT CLIP BROKE THE VISOR. *TR
THE PAINT IS OXIDIZING AND FLAKING OFF EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS WASHED AND WAXED REGULARLY. *TR
AFTER THE RECALL FOR THE SUN VISOR MELTING, I GOT BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER VISOR REPLACED LAST YEAR. ITS BEEN ONE YEAR AND THEY MELTED AGAIN. HONDA REPAIRED THEM BUT I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO GO IN EVERY YEAR FOR A REPLACEMENT. THEY NEED TO FIX THE UNDERLYING ISSUE. THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED BUT ONLY FOR 100,000 MILES OR 7 YEARS. IF THEY CONTINUE TO USE THE SAME VISOR, THEN AFTER 7 YEARS OR 100K MILES, IT WILL STILL BE A HAZARD. MY FRIEND IN ARLINGTON ALSO HAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AND SHE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE ALREADY RECALLED AND REPLACED VISORS. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN THE PASSENGER CV JOINT AT THE WHEEL BROKE APART RESULTING IN THE CAR BECOMING NOT DRIVABLE. IT HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE SCENE. *TR
TL* HE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 15-20 MPH WHEN HE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING THE CRASH. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHEST, BREAST BONE, NECK AND BACK. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 47,000. UPDATED 10/10/12 *CN
PAINT ON MY BLACK 2008 HONDA CIVIC IS FADING ON THE ROOF, TRUNK, SIDES AND HOOD. *TR
I HAVE ALSO OWNED A 2006 CIVIC EX WHICH HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE DID MAKE A RECALL FOR THE SUN VISOR. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ONLINE AND HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FINE SUCH A RECALL IN THE MODEL I OWNED NOW (2008 CIVIC SI SEDAN) BUT I HAVE FOND MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING. WHICH IS VERY UNSAFE THE VISOR CAN COME DOWN ALL OF THE SUDDEN CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAD BOUGHT MY CAR NEW IN MARCH 2008. IT IS 4+ YEARS SINCE AND DUE TO WORK COMMUTE I HAVE ACCRUED MORE THAN 132K MILES ON IT. THIS SUMMER, ABOUT LAST WEEK, SUDDENLY BOTH THE SUN VISORS GOT CRACKED ABOUT 2 DAYS APART. I WAS HEADING OUT FOR LUNCH, AND I FLIPPED UP THE SUN VISORS TO REMOVE THE SUN REFLECTING SHEET FROM THE WINDSCREEN. AND THE SUN VISORS SIMPLY CRACKED. NOW THE SUN VISORS ARE NOT STAYING UP AND IT PARTIALLY BLOCKS MY VIEW ALL THE TIME. KEEPING THE SUN VISORS TURNED TO THE SIDE ALSO IS NOT VERY PRACTICAL. I LOOKED UP ONLINE TO LEARN THAT THE SUN VISORS IN 2008 CIVICS HAVE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CAUSES THEM TO CRACK ( HTTP://VISORSETTLEMENT.COM/ ). WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER TO FIX IT, UNFORTUNATELY THEY CAN'T BE FIXED FOR FREE BECAUSE THE VISOR WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED ONLY TILL 100K MILES AND I AM ALREADY AT 132K+ MILES. HONDA SHOULD REPLACE THE VISORS REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE BECAUSE IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND NOT THE USER'S FAULT. DOES THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OF JUST 100K MILES MEAN THAT HONDA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS OWN FAULT AFTER THAT LIMIT? I WOULD APPEAL HONDA TO FIX THE SUN VISORS FOR ME FOR FREE. RIGHT AND LEFT SUNVISORS BOTH SPLIT AT SEEMS AND FALLING DOWN. MELTED FROM EXTREME HEAT AND THE RIGHT VISOR HAS NOW COMPLETELY COME OFF OF METAL BAR. CALLING HONDA DEALER IN THE MORNING TO REPORT AND ASK THAT BOTH BE REPLACED AT NO CHARGE. THIS DOES FALL UNDER THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST HONDA FOR SUNVISOR DEFECT. *TR
SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE WAS BROKEN FOR NO KNOWN REASON. I SEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON WEB, AND FOUND MANY SIMILAR CASES/COMPLAINTS FOR THE HONDA CIVIC. HONDA SHOULD DO A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE BROKEN SUN VISOR BLOCKS DRIVER'S VIEW, AND CAN CAUSE SAFETY PROBLEMS. *TR
OWNED THIS 2008 HONDA CIVIC SI (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) FOR ONE WEEK BEFORE THE CLUTCH QUIT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND TOTALLY UNEXPECTED FOR A CAR THAT WAS JUST INSPECTED BY A HONDA DEALER (WHO HAD LISTED ANOTHER CAR DEALER AS THE PREVIOUS OWNER ON THE NYS RETAIL CERTIFICATE OF SALE). THIS HONDA DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR THIS CAR AS THEY WERE FLAT-BEDDING IT TO AN AUCTION HOUSE THAT WAS ACTUALLY THE LAST OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE FOR THEM TO REPAIR IT. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA BECAUSE THE AUCTION HOUSE REPAIRS ARE LIKELY TO VOID THE REMAINDER OF THE HONDA WARRANTY BUT THEIR REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT AMERICAN HONDA DOES NOT GET INVOLVED WITH LOCAL HONDA DEALER ISSUES. AMERICAN HONDA ASSIGNED CASE # [XXX] AND ALSO STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT CONCERNED THAT A SAFETY REPORT WOULD BE FILED WITH THE NHTSA. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, WHILE SHIFTING THE CAR INTO 3RD GEAR, THE GEARS GRIND. THE SHIFT KNOB IS LINED UP EXACTLY WHERE IT SHOULD BE TO GO INTO 3RD GEAR. THE CAR WILL ALSO POP OUT OF 3RD GEAR AT RANDOM WITHOUT EVEN STEPPING ON THE CLUTCH TO PROMPT IT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM TO HAVE IN A STANDARD CAR, AND I HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE MAKE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ONLINE. I CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THE CAR FIXED, NOT THEIRS, AND THAT THEY BASE MOST OF THEIR CLAIMS FOR REIMBURSEMENT ON MILEAGE AS WELL AS HONDA CUSTOMER LOYALTY. THE GENTLEMAN THEN PROCEEDED TO ASK ME IF I HAD OWNED A HONDA BEFORE AND INSINUATED THAT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS THE FIRST HONDA THAT I OWNED THAT THE LIKELIHOOD OF THEM REIMBURSING WOULD BE SLIM. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. I DID NOT CHOOSE FOR MY TRANSMISSION TO BE BUILT WITH A FAULTY PART, AND I SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THE PROBLEM WHEN MY SAFETY IS CALLED INTO QUESTION. *TR
MY CAR WAS STOPPED IN LINE WHILE WAITING TO GO THROUGH US CUSTOMS. TRANSMISSION WAS IN DRIVE AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, ENGINE STARTED TO REV. PLACED TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL POSITION. ENGINE REVVED THREE TIMES, EACH TIME HIGHER. ON THIRD REVVING, RPM REACHED 4000 RPM. TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED. WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE REVVED AT HIGH RPM AGAIN. TURNED OFF ENGINE, WAITED APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS. RESTARTED ENGINE AGAIN, AND ENGINE STARTED NORMALLY. TOOK CAR TO HONDA DEALER ON 7/23/12. DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY TROUBLE CODES IN THE ENGINE COMPUTER. THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENED TWO YEARS AGO AT APPROX MILEAGE OF 45,000 MILES. ENGINE STARTED REVVING WHILE STOPPED AT A SIGNAL. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. DEALER CALLED IN AREA REP WHO REVIEWED PROCESS AND WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. *TR
SUN VISOR SPLIT APART CAUSING THE VISOR TO LOOSELY STAY IN THE LINE OF SIGHT OF THE DRIVER. THE MECHANISM THAT HOLDS THE VISOR UP DOES NOT HOLD THE VISOR UP ANYMORE BECAUSE OF THE SPLIT. LOOKS LIKE THE HEAT OF THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR MIXED WITH THE PLASTIC PIECES OF THE VISOR CAUSED THE DEFECT. HONDA NEEDS TO NOT JUST REPLACE THE PARTS, THEY NEED TO REDESIGN THE VISORS USING DIFFERENT MATERIALS THAT WILL HOLD UP TO THE EXTREME HEAT THAT CAR INTERIORS HAVE TO FACE. CURRENTLY THEY ARE REPLACING THE VISORS WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVELY DESIGNED VISORS. THEY NEED TO BE FORCED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, INSTEAD OF TREAT THE SYMPTOM! TYPE IN HONDA SUN VISOR DEFECT IN ANY SEARCH ENGINE AND YOU WILL SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM! *TR
THE BRAKES STARTED MAKING A LOUD WHINING SOUND, BUT ONLY IN REVERSE. FROM WHAT RESEARCH I CAN DO, IT APPEARS TO BE THE BRAKE PADS WEARING OUT PREMATURELY. *TR
I NOTICED THAT 2 DAYS AGO IT WAS RAINING INSIDE MY CAR I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW OFF OF THE LOT IN 2008. THE AREAS THAT ARE LEAKING/COLLECTING WATER ARE WHERE THE SIDE FRONT AIRBAG IS LOCATED, ALONG WITH THE WINDSHIELD, AND SIDE OF THE DOOR. CALLED THE DEALER THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED THEREFORE I WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD AND OTHER COMPONENTS (ROOF, AIRBAGS,ETC.) THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR ANYTHING AND NOW I AM ALMOST SCARED TO DRIVE IT SINCE THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT IT IS THE WINDSHIELD I AM PETRIFIED THAT IT WILL IMPLODE SOON. THIS SEEMS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS NOW I AM UNSURE THAT IF I GET IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE WATER WHAT IF MY AIRBAG WON'T WORK UPON IMPACT? IN JULY 2012, I STARTED NOTICING A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I WOULD TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. A FRIEND OF MINE WHOSE HUSBAND OWNS A GARAGE TOLD ME THEY HAD RECEIVED A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THIS SAME THING. IT WAS DATED JULY 16, 2009, SERV. BULL. # 262286. (STEERING GEARBOX MOUNTING BOLTS NOT TORQUED CORRECTLY). I CALLED HONDA'S CUST. SER. #. SHE INFORMED ME I COULD TAKE IT TO MY HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD INSPECT IT FOR ME FOR 75.00 I ASKED HER SINCE THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN THEY HAD SENT OUT TO GARAGES, WHY I HAD TO PAY A FEE? SHE SAID THAT WAS PROTOCOL. I ASKED THAT IF IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS ON THE SERVICE BULLETIN IF I WOULD BE REIMBURSED. SHE WOULD NOT SAY YES, ONLY SAYING, "POSSIBLY." I DECIDED NOT TO GO THAT ROUTE. MY FRIEND'S HUSBAND TOLD ME TO BRING MY CAR IN AND THEY WOULD LOOK AT THE MOUNTING BOLTS TO SEE IF THEY WERE TORQUED CORRECTLY (FOR FREE). THIS WAS THE SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUE, AND SOUNDED LIKE THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING. HE INSPECTED IT AND SAID THEY WERE TORQUED CORRECTLY, BUT IT IS STILL MAKING THE NOISE A YEAR LATER. IT IS USUALLY WHEN I TURN SHARPLY LEFT OR RIGHT. MY CONCERN I EXPRESSED TO MY FRIEND'S HUSBAND WHO LOOKED AT MY CAR WAS THAT I DIDN'T WANT THE PROBLEM TO BE TEARING SOMETHING ELSE UP, AND I DIDN'T WANT SOMETHING TO FALL OUT AS I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD, OR FOR MY STEERING MECHANISM TO FAIL AS I WAS DRIVING. HE ASSURED ME ALL OF THIS WAS OK, BUT I STILL WONDER?? SHOULDN'T HONDA REPAIR ISSUES FREE OF CHARGE, THAT THEY PUT ON SERVICE BULLETINS? THIS IS A DEFECT IN HONDA'S MANUFACTURING, NOT THROUGH ANYTHING I HAVE DONE. I FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD INSPECT MY VEHICLE FREE OF CHARGE AND IF THIS SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUE IS THE PROBLEM, THEN THEY SHOULD REPAIR IT FREE OF CHARGE AS WELL. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN GIVE ME ON THIS MATTER. *TR
MY WIFE WAS HEADED HOME FROM WORK (APPROXIMATELY 5 PM) WHEN SHE HAD TO STOP IN TRAFFIC ON A FAIRLY STEEP HILL, WITH AN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE AT, OR NEAR, 100 DEGREES. WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO RESUME FORWARD SHE PRESSED THE GAS ON HER 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID AND THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS INTO ANOTHER CAR. THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN DRIVE, SHE SWITCHED TO THE LOWEST RANGE, STILL THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. AS A RESULT, SHE HAD TO WAVE CARS BEHIND HER AROUND WHILE ALL SHE COULD DO WAS HOLD THE BRAKES UNTIL SHE COULD MANAGE TO ROLL BACKWARDS DOWN THIS HILL TO SAFETY. SHE THEN CHANGED ROUTES THAT HAD SUBSTANTIALLY MORE CONGESTION, BUT SMALLER HILLS. HILLS ARE A WAY OF LIFE IN THE ATLANTA METRO AREA, SO ARE HIGH TEMPERATURES IN JULY. SHE HAS MENTIONED THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS TERRIBLE ACCELERATION ON SOME LESSER HILLS IN HOT WEATHER OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS, BUT NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING AS DANGEROUS AS THIS INCIDENT.THIS MALADY HAS BEEN REPORTED A MINIMUM OF 2-3 TIMES TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SHE PURCHASED IT FROM, HERITAGE HONDA, ROME, GA. I WOULDN'T ALLOW HER TO USE IT UNTIL HONDA SORTED OUT THE MALFUNCTION. WELL, I SPENT THE DAY THERE, THEY DID COMPUTER ANALYSIS, TECHNICIAN INTERFACED WITH HONDA TECH LINE, EVEN SENT A "SNAPSHOT" OF THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER DATA WHEN IT ACTUALLY RECREATED THE SAME CONDITION FOR THE MECHANIC ON A STEEP HILL. NONE-THE-LESS, I LEFT THERE HOPEFUL THAT HONDA WOULD RESOLVE OUR DILEMMA. AFTER A DAY AND A HALF OF WAITING FOR SOME FEEDBACK, I WAS FINALLY INFORMED THE CAR WAS OPERATING PROPERLY. APPARENTLY, THE HYBRID BATTERIES REACHED A HIGH TEMPERATURE, WHICH FOR "SAFETY REASONS" DISABLED THE CIRCUITRY THAT "ASSISTS" THE CAR VIA THE "HYBRID ELECTRIC MOTOR" WHICH IN TURN LEAVES THE CAR COMPLETELY DEPENDENT ON THE UNDERSIZED GASOLINE ENGINE. IN THIS CASE, NOT NEAR ENOUGH POWER TO MOVE HER CAR. HONDA SAYS IT'S OK TO DRIVE! WE NEED HELP, PLEASE HELP US! *TR
WHEN I BOUGHT MY HONDA CIVIC, THE BLUE COLOR WAS ONE OF THE REASONS I CHOSE IT. HAD I KNOWN THE PAINT JOB WAS GOING TO FADE AFTER ONLY 4 YEARS, I PROBABLY WOULD'VE CHOSEN A DIFFERENT COLOR OR EVEN A DIFFERENT MAKE. IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM?. *JB

AIR CONDITIONING/HEATER,DEFROSTER FAN STOPS WORKING. IT SOUNDS AS IF THE FAN MOTOR IS STRUGGLING AND THEN IT TURNS OFF AND WON?T TURN BACK ON FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. *TT
CAR STARTED AT USUAL TIME AROUND 8 AM AND STARTED VIBRATING. A VERY LOUD EXHAUST NOISE STARTED TO BEGIN AND THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING. THE VIBRATING NOISE WAS SO LOUD AND EVERYONE IN THE CAR COULD FEEL THE VIBRATION. THE FRONT STEERING WHEEL AS WELL AS THE SEATS WERE ALSO SHAKING. VIBRATING CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND WAS GONE AT TIMES WHEN THIS FIRST BEGAN BUT AS DAYS WENT BY IT BECAME LOUDER AND MORE OBVIOUS BY OTHERS OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. THE CAR NOW CONTINUES TO VIBRATE NOT ONLY IN THE MORNING BUT AT ALL TIMES OF THE DAY. IT SHAKES AT PARK, DRIVE, AND REVERSE. CAR IS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVE AND THE NOISE CAN BECOME VERY DISTRACTING. TWO YEARS AGO WE WENT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN COCOA FLORIDA BECAUSE OUR AIR CONDITIONER WAS CUTTING OUT AND THEN COMING BACK ON, AND THEN CUTTING OUT. WE PURCHASED A $5 RELAY SWITCH AND PROBLEM STOPPED. TODAY I CAME ONLINE AND FIND OUT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE HOWEVER THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A RECALL. WHY NOT? THE PAST YEAR HAS BEEN AWFUL WITH THIS CAR. WE HAD TO GET A RENTAL CAR FOR A WEEK BECAUSE HONDA PAINTED MOST OF THE CAR BECAUSE THERE WAS A RECALL. WE STILL HAVE PLACES THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAINTED BUT HONDA REFUSED. THEN WE WERE TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE CAR STARTED OVERHEATING, WE FOUND OUT IT WAS ANOTHER KNOWN ISSUE, THE BLOCK CRACKED AND AGAIN WE HAD TO GET A RENTAL CAR BECAUSE MY HUSBAND AND I BOTH WORK AND OUR CIVIC IS OUR ONLY TRANSPORTATION. THE FIRST TIME THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED WAS IN JUNE OF 2012 WHEN SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR THERE WAS GRINDING SOUNDS. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO POP OUT OF 3RD GEAR WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT INTO A HONDA DEALER TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS INTERNAL M/T MALFUNCTION SAYING THAT MY SHIFT FORK AND 3RD GEAR S SET NEEDED REPLACING. SINCE I PURCHASE THIS CAR USED AT A DEALERSHIP THAT I WORKED AT THE TIME THEY FIXED IT AS A COURTESY TO ME. I HAD TO FIGHT WITH THEM TO FINALLY AGREE TO FIX IT FROM THE BEGINNING. ONCE AGAIN NOW IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014 THE SAME THING HAS HAPPEN AGAIN TO MY CIVIC WHICH THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS AROUND $3,000.00. I WAS PARKING IN A HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT. I "ROLLED" INTO THE SPACE AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE ENGINE "ACCELERATED". I WENT OVER THE CEMENT BLOCK AT THE FRONT OF THE SPACE AND THROUGH A CHAINLINK FENCE AND ONTO THE SIDEWALK. USUALLY, THAT WALKWAY IS FILLED WITH CHILDREN. I INITIALLY THOUGHT THE FLOORMAT GOT CAUGHT UP UNDER THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK PICTURES IMMEDIATELY AND IT DID APPEAR THAT EXACERBATED THE PROBLEM. BELL HONDA IN PHOENIX SAID "THEY COULD NOT REPEAT THE PROBLEM" AND DISMISSED ME. IT HAS SINCE HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER AND HUSBAND. FORTUNATELY THEY BOTH APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AFTER THE LAST TIME, WE TOOK THE CAR TO SUPERSTITION SPRINGS HONDA. THEY SAID "THEY COULD NOT REPEAT THE PROBLEM AND NOTHING HAS COME FROM HONDA." I HAVE READ WHERE OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALER TO ENSURE THE MATTER WAS HANDLED APPROPRIATELY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 128,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE PROBLEM, WHICH INVOLVES A METAL BAR THAT EXPANDS IN HOT WEATHER AND FORCES APART THE TWO SIDES OF THE PLASTIC VISOR, IS PRONE TO HAPPEN IN HOT WEATHER. THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME. A CALIFORNIA SUPERIOR COURT RULING REQUIRES HONDA TO REPLACE THESE AS NEEDED UP TO 100,000 MILES. HOWEVER, THE SAFETY ISSUE REMAINS UNADDRESSED. THE REPLACEMENT IS THE SAME AS THE FAILED VISOR, AND IT TOO WILL FAIL IN ABOUT 10,000 MILES (OR LESS, IN SEVERE CLIMATES). TWO SCREWS HOLD THE VISOR TO THE ROOF OF THE CAR. CAN'T HONDA BE REQUIRE TO DESIGN A NEW VISOR WITHOUT THIS DEFECT (REQUIRES ONLY MAKING THE CHANNEL FOR THE METAL BAR WIDER) AND REPLACE THE VISORS WITH AN IMPROVED VERSION ON ALL AFFECTED HONDA CIVICS (2006-2009)? THE CHECK WAS CARRIED OUT UNDER CONDITION THAT AC SYSTEM IS BLOWING CLOSED CIRCULATIUON AIR WITHIN THE CAR. I FELT THAT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT MIGHT POST A GREATER RISK OF AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS FOR ELDERLY DRIVERS AS THE R134A, FREON, IS POISONOUS AND ONCE THE DRIVERS UNAWARE OF ITS PRESENT AND INHALE IT AND PHYSICALLY LOSE CONTROL OF THEIR VEHICLES. ESPECIALLY ELDERLY ONES ARE MORE VULNERABLE AND ACCIDENTS HAPPEN. THERE ARE MANY ACCIDENTS MIGHT BE DUE TO THIS TYPE OF AC DEFECT. THE SUN VISORS IN THIS CAR ARE A SEVERE PROBLEM AS THEY BREAK EASILY THROUGH NORMAL AVERAGE USE AND WILL NOT REMAIN UPRIGHT. THEY FALL DOWN AND HANG IN THE DRIVER FIELD OF VISION CREATING HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS POSING INJURY TO DRIVER AND ANYONE ELSE NEARBY. THE VISORS ARE NOT CHEAP TO REPLACE($50 TO $100 EACH) AND THE REPLACEMENTS ALSO BREAK IN A SHORT TIME. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED ONCE AND BOTH ARE BROKEN AGAIN. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW JUST LIKE THE ALLOY MIXTURE IN THE LOWER ENGINE BLOCK THAT CAUSES CRACKING IN THE COOLANT PASSAGES IN THE BLOCK (LOOK IT UP). HONDA IS SUPPOSED TO BE A QUALITY PRODUCT AND IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE QUALITY IS ERODING AND HONDA'S LACK OF TAKING RESPONSIBILITY AND ADMITTING ERROR AND TAKING ACTIONS TO CORRECT FURTHER REFLECTS POOR COMMERCE AND CARE FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS IN DEPTH BECAUSE THIS ISSUE HAS SATURATED THE WEB WITH COMPLAINTS AND NO ONE SEEMS TO BE DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HONDA HAS ADMITTED TO HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THEIR 06 AND 07 MODEL REAR CONTROL ARMS NOT BY ISSUING A RECALL BUT A SERVICE BULLETIN BOTH IN JAN. AND FEB. OF 2008. I BELIEVE THERE STILL WAS A PROBLEM IN SEVERAL 2008 MODELS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED IN 2007. I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA AND THE REP. THERE SAID THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. ALL THE MECHANICS I HAVE TALKED TO HAVE SAID IT WAS A CLEAN SNAP AND THAT THERE WAS NO RUST INVOLVED. I THINK THIS PROBLEM DESERVES TO BE LOOKED AT CLOSER THAN IT SEEMS TO BE. *JS

CAR MADE AN INTERMITTENT HIGH-PITCHED WHINING NOISE. I NOTICED THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE INDICATOR WAS IN THE RED. THERE WAS A SMELL OF BURNT ANTI-FREEZE. CHECKING THE RADIATOR AND RADIATOR RESERVOIR SHOWED THERE WAS NO COOLANT. HAD TO PUT WATER IN THE RADIATOR AND RESERVOIR TO DRIVE BACK HOME. MECHANIC AND DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED CAUSING ALL THE COOLANT TO LEAK OUT. THE ENGINE BLOCK HAS TO BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY I WAS MADE AWARE THAT HONDA WILL COVER THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND MY COST SHOULD BE ZERO. *TR
