I HAVEN'T HAD A CRASH OR INCIDENT (YET) BUT MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC SUN VISOR JUST CAME APART AND NOW IT HANGS DOWN IN MY FIELD OF VIEW. IT WON'T STAY RETRACTED BECAUSE IT IS TOO THICK (SINCE THE SEAM POPPED). THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID WITH 24,000 MILES WITH HYBRID BATTERY AND PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION THAT IS, AT TIMES, A REAL ISSUE. BATTERY DOESN'T HOLD CHARGE VERY LONG AND VERY ADVERSELY AFFECTS ACCELERATION. PROBLEM IS VERY REPETITIVE AND VERY ADVERSELY AFFECTS ACCELERATION. HONDA'S RECALL SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS APPLIED WITHIN THE LAST 30 DAYS BUT BATTERY IS STILL NOT HOLDING A CHARGE AND ACCELERATION DEGRADATION AND SAFETY REMAINS AN INCREASING CONCERN. HONDA SHOULD REPLACE THESE DEGRADED BATTERIES BUT WON'T TAKE ANY ACTION UNTIL AN IMA LIGHT COMES ON - AT WHICH TIME, THE BATTERY WOULD BE ALMOST FULLY DEGRADED. BATTERY DEGRADATIONS HAPPENS VERY OFTEN - EVEN AFTER THE RECENT HONDA SOFTWARE UPDATE AND MANY HONDA CIVIC HYBRID OWNERS ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PERFORMANCE ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. SHE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER TELLING HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR A SOFTWARE UPGRADE. UPON RECEIVING THE VEHICLE SHE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WHEN SHE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS LESS POWERFUL THAN BEFORE. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATED AND WAS NOT NOTICEABLE WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT ON A STEEP INCLINE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO EXHIBITING LESS GAS MILEAGE. IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT HAVE NO REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,700.
AFTER THE HONDA DEALER PERFORMED A SOFTWARE UPDATE PER A RECALL TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF THE BATTERY ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID, THE VEHICLE BEGAN LOSING POWER INTERMITTENTLY AND THE GAS MILEAGE DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY. RETURNED TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD "EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT." PROBLEM STILL UNRESOLVED. *TR
IN AUGUST 2010 I TOOK MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A PURPORTED SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE BATTERY SYSTEM WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME UNTIL AFTERWARDS. IMMEDIATELY UPON LEAVING THE DEALER, I NOTICED A PROFOUND REDUCTION IN POWER AND ACCELERATION. ON THE FREEWAY PORTION OF THE DRIVE HOME, I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED TWICE AS I DROVE IN THE SLOW LANE UP A MINOR GRADE WHERE THE VEHICLE COULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 40 MILES PER HOUR (WITH THE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED IN THE PASSING GEAR)-- PRIOR TO THIS DATE I HAD DRIVEN MY VEHICLE FOR ITS PRIOR 20 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP UP THAT SAME GRADE AT 70MPH. ADDITIONALLY, PRIOR TO THIS DATE I HAD NEVER EVEN UTILIZED THE "S" GEAR ON MY TRANSMISSION. EVER SINCE HONDA'S SOFTWARE UPDATE MY CAR HAS BECOME A SEVERELY UNDERPOWERED ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I AM REDUCED TO DRIVING IN THE SLOW LANE ON THE FREEWAY WITH VEHICLES FLASHING ME AS THEY APPROACH A 40-45 MPH VEHICLE AT 60-70 MPH FROM BEHIND. I HAVE CALLED THE HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AT SEVERAL LOCAL DEALERS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM, AND GET A UNIVERSAL RESPONSE- "WAIT FOR YOUR SYSTEM TO ADJUST TO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE" OR "YOU NEED TO ADJUST YOUR DRIVING". WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS MEAN? I DROVE THE VEHICLE FINE FOR 20 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AND NOW IT DRIVES LIKE A 20 YEAR OLD 4 CYLINDER ENGINE WITH 2 BAD PISTONS. THE DECREASED POWER AND ACCELERATION ARE A DANGEROUS ACCIDENT IN THE MAKING. I AM FEARFUL OF BEING REAR ENDED. THIS IS AN EVERY DAY PROBLEM THAT WAS CAUSED BY THIS "SOFTWARE UPDATE" AND I SUSPECT THAT IT IS HAPPENING TO EVERY 2006-2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID THAT GOES TO THE DEALER FOR THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE. AN ADDITIONAL CONSEQUENCE OF THIS ALLEGED "SOFTWARE UPDATE" IS A PROFOUND DROP IN GAS MILEAGE FROM APPROXIMATELY 37 COMBINED MPG PRIOR TO "UPDATE" TO 29-30 POST "UPDATE". I HAVE NEVER LODGED A COMPLAINT WITH ANY ORGANIZATION BEFORE, BUT LIKE I'VE PREVIOUSLY STATED, THIS "UPDATE" IS A DANGER TO THE PUBLIC. *TR
2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID APPEARS TO HAVE PROBLEM WITH BATTERY SYSTEM; OVERHEATS AND LOOSES CHARGE. HONDA HAS ISSUED SOFTWARE UPDATE TO "REPAIR" THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, THIS UPDATE ROBS THE CAR OF ACCELERATION POWER THUS MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO REACT TO AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC LX COUPE ON NOVEMBER 25TH, 2009. WHEN I PURCHASED IT, IT HAD APPROXIMATELY 12K MILES. IN THE SUMMER OF 2010, BOTH OF MY SUN VISORS BROKE. IT APPEARS THAT THE SWIVEL PART OF THE VISOR WASN'T LUBED GOOD ENOUGH AND SO IT SNAPPED THE VISORS OPEN. IT BROKE THE PLASTIC PART THAT HELP IT ALL TOGETHER. IT HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED. IT COSTS ABOUT $50 EACH VISOR. DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE IT BECAUSE IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. *TR
2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POOR PERFORMANCE OF THE HYBRID BATTERY *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SINCE THE SOFTWARE BATTERY UPGRADE WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALER ON AUGUST 9, 2010 THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE A/C WAS RUNNING. ON HOT DAYS, THE HYBRID BATTERY LEVEL FELL TO ONE BAR, AT THAT TIME THERE WAS NO ENGINE ASSIST FROM THE HYBRID SYSTEM, AND VIRTUALLY NO POWER.
2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. HAD BATTERY COMPUTER REPLACED PER HONDA REQUEST AND EXPERIENCING LOSS OF POWER GOING UP INCLINES AND GOING BACKWARDS DOWNHILL IN LOW GEAR. HAD FAMILY IN CAR AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE GOING UP THIS HILL. THIS CAR WILL GO UP THIS HILL WITH LESS PEOPLE BUT WE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. *TR
WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HONDA STATING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SOFTWARE STATING THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS NEEDED TO BE DONE ON THE CAR TO HELP THE BATTERY LIFE OF THE CAR. SO WE BROUGHT IT IN TO BE SERVICED AND EVER SINCE, WE'VE LOST POWER TO THE CAR, AND LOST MPG THAT USED TO BE APPROX. 38 MPG TO NOW 29 MPG, THE SAME AS OUR '99 CIVIC COUP DX, THAT IS NOT A HYBRID. MY WIFE, WHILE GOING ONTO THE FREEWAY WAS ALMOST HIT, WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE. MY WIFE IS NOW HATES DRIVING THE CAR SHE USED TO LOVE. WE LIVE IN A HILLY AREA. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE UP A HILL WE DRIVE EVERYDAY, IF THE BATTERY CHARGE IS 4 BLOCKS OR LOWER, IT DOESN'T EVEN ASSIST. IT'S ALL THE GAS ENGINE. THE BATTERY RARELY KICKS IN SO THAT DEFEATS THE HYBRID THEORY AND JUST ADDS MORE POLLUTION THAT HONDA PURPORTS THAT IT DOESN'T. TO PUT IT STRAIGHT, THIS IS NOT THE CAR I BOUGHT AND HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATED WITH THE EXPERIENCE. I'VE BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO HONDA TO TRY TO GET THE SOFTWARE ISSUE RESOLVED. THEY STATED THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR, ENGINE OR BATTERY THAT EVERYTHING IS FINE. WHEN ASKED FOR AN EXPLANATION FOR THE LOSS OF POWER AND MPG, THEY SAID THAT I SHOULD TRY A HIGHER OCTANE OF GAS OR A DIFFERENT BRAND. I HAVE ALWAYS USED THE HIGHEST OCTANE GAS FROM DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS WITHOUT ANY ISSUES BEFORE THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE. SO THAT ISN'T THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE REFUSED TO SAY THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THEIR "SOFTWARE UPGRADE". I HAVE PRETTY MUCH WASTED $26,000+ ON PURCHASING THIS CAR. ALL I CAN SAY IS THIS IS SHAME ON ANOTHER BIG COMPANY, TRYING TO SAVE $$ BY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THEIR OWN LOYAL CUSTOMERS. THANK YOU HONDA! *TR
THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ONE TIME SO FAR BUT I HAVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC LX THAT I JUST BOUGHT USED WITH ABOUT 25,500 MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT IT FROM A HONDA DEALERSHIP IN SOUTH FLORIDA. IT IS A "HONDA CERTIFIED" VEHICLE. IT ALMOST STALLED AT A STOP SIGN WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. I DON'T KNOW WHY IT DID THIS BUT IT WORRIES ME. I HAD TO RELEASE THE PEDAL AND RE-PRESS IS SLOWLY TO GET THE CAR TO GO AGAIN. WHAT IF I NEED TO GET OUT INTO TRAFFIC? *TR
PASSENGER SIDE VISOR DID NOT STAY UP ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT DUE TO BLOCKING MY VIEW. WITHOUT AN ATTENTIVE DRIVER IN THE OTHER CAR, I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM GOING FREEWAY SPEED. UPON CHECKING ON THE ITNERNET, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH HOMDA CIVICS. *TR
REAR TIRES WEAR PREMATURELY AND IN A VERY ODD FASHION (UNEVEN, HI-LO BANDS ACROSS THE TREAD) CAUSING A SIGNIFICANT THUMPING SOUND AND VIBRATION. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD THE REAR SHOCKS WERE THE CAUSE (@55-60K MILES). THE SHOCKS AND TIRES WERE REPLACE AND THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AGAIN! 90%+ OF MY DRIVING IS DONE ON THE HIGHWAY AND NOT POORLY MAINTAINED BACK ROADS. IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION ON THESE VEHICLES THAT HONDA NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND ADDRESS. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW HONDA CIVIC SEDAN IN 2008. AT AROUND 40,000 MILES, THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR HAS SPLIT APART AND WILL NOT STAY UP. IT FLOPS DOWN MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR ME TO SEE THE ROADS. I HAVE NOT TAKEN THE VISOR TO GET REPAIRED, BUT MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE. *TR

2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID,(PROBLEM), IMA BATTERY DISCHARGE, WHILE DRIVING THE BATTERY WILL DISCHARGE TO 0 OR 1 BAR AND MOTOR ASSIST WILL NOT WORK UNTIL BATTERY CHARGES UP, WHICH CAN TAKE AWHILE, WITH NO ASSIST THE CAR IS SLOW AND DANGEROUS. ALSO WITH LOW OR NO BATTERY POWER THE GAS MILEAGE DROPS ABOUT 20%. THE REASON YOU BUY A HYBRID. AFTER RESEARCH ON THE WEB THIS SEEMS TO BE A LARGE PROBLEM MANY OTHER HAVE IT APPEARS THAT HONDA DOESN'T HAVE A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER WILL REPROGRAM YOUR IMA SYSTEM WHICH DOESN'T ALLOW FOR AS MUCH BATTERY BACKUP,WHICH ALSO DECREASES GAS MILEAGE. THIS GIVES THE MPG OF MANY OTHER CHEAPER NON HYBRID CARS. IF AFTER MANY BATTERY DISCHARGES AND IF THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER SHOWS THAT THE BATTERY IS BAD THEN A NEW BATTERY CAN BE INSTALLED, THE PROBLEM STILL IS THERE, THE REPROGRAMMED IMA SYSTEM STILL DOESN'T ALLOW FOR FULL BATTERY BACKUP AND THE MPG WILL NOT INCREASE TO NEW CARE STATUS. AGAIN, NOT WHAT YOU PAID FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE. I THINK HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. MANY HYBRID OWNERS SIMPLY WANT WHAT THEY BOUGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE. I THINK WITH YOUR HELP,MAYBE HONDA WILL STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AND NOT TRY TO COVER UP OR PROLONG THE BATTERY WITH UPDATES TO THE IMA SYSTEM WHICH APPEARS NOT TO HELP, THIS SEEMS TO PROLONG BATTERY LIFE, BUT DOESN'T ALLOW FOR THE FULL BENEFIT OF THE HYBRID CONCEPT. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR HINGE BROKE. *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC LX IN JUNE 2008. AT 15,000 MILES I HAD A BUNCH OF BRAKE PROBLEMS (LOUD NOISES, DIFFICULTY STOPPING). I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND WAS TOLD I HAD "CONTAMINATED" BRAKE PADS. THEY REPLACED THEM FOR FREE. SIX MONTHS LATER, I WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. TOOK IT IN AGAIN TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. I HAVE CONTINUED TO FEEL UNEASY ABOUT MY BRAKES AS THEY DON'T STOP LIKE THE THREE OTHER CARS I HAVE HAD. NOW, AT 41K SCREECHING NOISES HAVE STARTED AGAIN. THEY STARTED ON A FRIDAY AND I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP MONDAY MORNING. THEY TOLD ME I HAVE BARELY ANY BRAKE PADS LEFT AND IT MUST BE DUE TO MY DRIVING. (INCORRECT AS I MAINLY DID HIGHWAY DRIVING AND NOW HAVE A 7 MINUTE COMMUTE TO WORK.) THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, CLAIMING IT IS MY ISSUE AND THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC WITH A LITTLE OVER 20,000 MILES. INITIAL SYMPTOM WAS A/C FAN WOULD SHUT IT'S SELF OFF AND ON. DEALER REPLACED A PART IN THE FAN MOTOR. LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LATER IT BEGAN AGAIN. THEN ON A SUNDAY THE A/C BEGAN TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND SAID THAT I NOTICED WHEN AT HIGH SPEED A/C STOPS WORKING BUT WORKS AT LOW SPEED WHEN EXITING HIGHWAY. DEALER SAID THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN AND RAN A COUPLE OF SOFTWARE UPDATES AND SAID IT WAS WORKING AGAIN. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR THE PROBLEM RECURRED AND I RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER SAME DAY. THIS TIME THE DEALER DETERMINED IT WAS A CRACKED BLOCK. THEY SAID IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND IF I HAD CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR IT WOULD HAVE OVERHEATED AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DEALERSHIP WAS VERY HELPFUL AND GAVE ME A CAR TO DRIVE WHILE MINE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THEY SAID THAT THE NEW BLOCK WILL CONTINUE TO BE COVERED UNDER THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND A KNOWN ISSUE, IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN AND I WILL BE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD POSSIBLY WITHOUT WARRANTY COVERAGE. *TR

MY HONDA CIVIC 2008 GETS STUCK ON GEAR. I STOP AND THEN IT WILL SWITCH GEARS BUT IT WILL NOT REV PAST 2RPM WHICH CAN MAKE ME CRASH. HONDA HAS NOT MADE A RECALL FOR THIS BUT THEY SHOULD AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS ON 8THCIVIC FORUMS AND OTHER PLACES. SO BASICALLY THE CAR BUCKS FORWARD AND THE TRANSMISSION JERKS HARD AND SO IT WILL GO BACK TO NORMAL YOU HAVE TO TURN THE CAR ON OR OFF. IMAGINE IM ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT HAPPENS. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW, NEVER A PROBLEM. IN JULY I RECEIVED A LETTER EXPLAINING A SOFTWARE UPGRADE THAT WAS TO HELP THE LIVE OF MY IMA BATTERY. SINCE THIS "UPGRADE" MY IMA MOTOR DOES NOT ASSIST ALL THE TIME. SPECIFICALLY WHEN GOING UP HILLS AND WHEN TRYING TO MERGE ONTO A FREEWAY/HIGHWAY IT WILL NOT KICK IN. I WOULD GUESS 20% OF THE TIME IT DOES NOT ENGAGE AT ALL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DARRYL WALTRIP HONDA IN FRANKLIN, TN. THEY SAW THE PROBLEM AND AGREED IT WAS A PROBLEM BUT THEN AFTER TALKING WITH "CORPORATE" HAVE DECIDED IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. I'M NERVOUS THAT I DO NOT HAVE THE PROPER ACCELERATION IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES. I HAVE NOW READ NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS. *TR
THE DRIVERS SUN VISOR SPLIT DURING JULY 2010. I LIVE IN MASS AND IT OCCURED ON A DAY THAT IT WAS ABOUT 90 DEGREES. IT IS UNUSABLE AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. *TR
I OWN A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. AT AROUND 42,000 MILES, MY DRIVERS SIDE VISOR CRACKED ON THE TOP AND DROPPED DOWN INTO MY LINE OF VISION. THE VISOR COULD NOT BE PLACED BACK UP OUT OF MY LINE OF SIGHT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE VISOR AT A COST TO ME (ABOUT $100.) BECAUSE THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE (OBSTRUCTING LINE OF SIGHT FOR DRIVERS), I BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE AN AUTOMOTIVE RECALL, AND THAT HONDA SHOULD REPLACE VISORS THAT FAIL FREE OF CHARGE. THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD AS THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET. FRANKLY, I WAS QUITE SURPRISED THAT THIS SAFETY ISSUE WAS NOT FIXED AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER, REGARDLESS OF WARRANTY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPRING MECHANISM ON THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR WAS BROKEN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,000.
ON JUNE 20, 2010, MY WIFE TOOK HER MOTHER ON A TRIP TO THE MIDWEST. WHEN SHE STARTED BACK, THE SHAKING BECAME EXTREMELY BAD, AND THE NOISE WAS DEAFENING. THE CLOSEST HONDA DEALER WAS MIDDLEKAUFF HONDA, TWIN FALLS IDAHO. THEY SAID SHE WAS RUNNING ON THE STEEL BELTS OF THE 2 REAR TIRES, AND THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. HE SAID HE DIDN'T HAVE THE HONDA PARTS TO CORRECT/REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE HONDA PARTS, BUT HE WOULD DO A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT, AND WITH 2 NEW TIRES SHE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET HOME, THEN TAKE THE ISSUE UP WITH OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER. THE COST OF THIS SERVICE, AND (INFERIOR) TIRES TO THE VEHICLE WAS $269.31. ON JULY 16, 2010 WE TOOK THE CAR (MILEAGE 26234) INTO OUR DEALER WHO REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PARTS AND DID ANOTHER ALIGNMENT AT NO CHARGE TO US. OUR SERVICE MANAGER ASKED WHY TWIN FALLS HONDA DID A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT, AS IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITHOUT REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE HONDA PARTS. WE TOLD HIM THE TWIN FALLS HONDA DEALER SAID IT SHOULD BE DONE. OUR LOCAL SERVICE MANAGER TOLD US THAT THE HONDA CIVIC HYBRID IS VERY PARTICULAR ABOUT THE TYPE OF TIRES YOU PUT ON IT. THE DELTA MAJESTIC TIRES PUT ON IN TWIN FALLS, BESIDES BEING NOISIER, MAY REDUCE GAS MILEAGE. HE SAID THE ORIGINAL DUNLOP TIRES WOULD HAVE BEEN BEST. WE ARE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH HONDA USA REGARDING THIS DEFECT, THE DAMAGE CAUSED, WHAT IT HAS COST US, AND LOVED ONES LIVES PUT IN JEOPARDY! THIS WAS CAUSED BY A KNOWN DEFECT, PER HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001. WE ARE ASKING THAT HONDA USA LIVE UP TO IT'S REPUTATION FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, WITHOUT US NEEDING TO SEEK FURTHER RECOURSE, AND THAT; OUR UNNECESSARY MONEY SPENT FOR THE 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND 2 INFERIOR TIRES IN TWIN FALLS BE REFUNDED TO US, AND ALL FOUR TIRES BE REPLACED WITH THE ORIGINAL DUNLOP MODEL. *TR
LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, IT WAS NECESSARY ZIGGLE THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO TURN THE KEY AND START THE CAR. ON JULY 4, 2010 THE IGNITION TOTALLY SEIZED - STRANDING THE DRIVER. IT WAS NECESSARY TO TOW THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP. HONDA ADVISED THE CAR WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FOLLOWING PARTS WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1026.00: IGNITION SWITCH, DUMMY SIDEWINDER AND THE LOCK ASSEMBLY / STEERING. IN A LETTER TO HONDA WE STATED THAT THE PART HADN'T BEEN REASONABLY DURABLE AND THAT THE WARRANTY DIDN'T APPLY. THE CAR IGNITION FAILED LONG BEFORE IT SHOULD HAVE. HONDA AGREED TO PAY $653.00 TOWARDS REPAIRS IN RESPONSE TO OUR LETTER. *TR
MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID'S IMA BATTERY IS DISCHARGING FULLY AND NOT RECHARGING ITSELF. THIS OCCURS OFTEN IN MY HOT CITY. IT MAKES IT A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM WHEN TRYING TO MERGE LANES. WHEN THE BATTERY FAILS TO ASSIST THE MOTOR, ACCELERATION IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE, MAKING IT A MAJOR SAFETY COMPLAINT. THIS IS WELL-DOCUMENTED IN THE PRESS. THE FAILURE OCCURS ANYTIME IN HEAT. THE SECOND ITEM WHICH I HAD NOT THOUGHT WAS RELATED AND WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE, SEVERAL TIMES AFTER LONG TRIPS ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN I APPROACHED A HILL OR WAS GOING UP ONE, THE CAR WOULD STALL OUT OR REFUSE TO MOVE, DESPITE PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR WHILE THE ENGINE WAS ON AND IN DRIVE GEAR. SEVERAL TIMES IT WOULD START ROLLING BACK DOWN THE HILL OR WOULD IMPEDE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. ONCE THE CAR SAT FOR A WHILE, IT WOULD RESUME WORKING PROPERLY, SO I NEVER REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALER AS I COULD NOT REPLICATE IT. IN THIS MORNING'S LA TIMES COVER STORY ABOUT HONDA BEING UNDER STATE SCRUTINY FOR THE GAS MILEAGE PROBLEM, SEVERAL PEOPLE INTERVIEWED RELATED A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO MINE. THAT'S WHEN THE "AHA" TOOK PLACE THAT MAYBE MY CAR'S PROBLEMS WERE RELATED. LUCKILY I DID NOT SUFFER ANY INJURIES OR CRASHES DUE TO THIS ISSUE, BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR GREAT DAMAGE IS THERE.
