NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2022 Honda Civic. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Sunroof glass suddenly shattered while driving with no impact. Very scary and Honda said it could be thousands to fix it. They say this has never happened before at their dealership and they've never heard of it happening.
Issue happens whenever I use adaptive Cruise control for any extended period of time. Typically occurs in less than an hour. The vehicle will be in active cruise mode and then the cruise control will suddenly shutoff and a few beeps are heard. I am unable to reactivate cruise control until I perform a key cycle at which point the cruise can be activated again.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (Steering). The contact requested to be removed from the recall distribution list. The local dealer was contacted, and the recall repair was performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact did not experience a failure.
To whom it may concern at NHTSA, I am filing a formal complaint regarding a critical technical discrepancy in Honda’s manufacturing records that is preventing essential safety diagnostics and maintenance for my vehicle. Vehicle Details: • VIN: [XXX] • Model: 2022 Honda Civic Touring (11th Generation) • Manufacturing Plant: Honda of Canada Mfg. The Issue: According to the NHTSA Part 565 submittal (which I have verified), this specific VIN is registered with an L15B7 engine (normally associated with the 10th Gen Civic). My vehicle physically carries this engine, and it is documented in my official registration. However, when I take the vehicle to the Authorized Honda Distributor (Nile Trading & Engineering) for service, their Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) fails to establish a connection with the vehicle’s ECU. The system identifies a "Software/Model Year Mismatch" because the global HDS software expects an L15CA engine for all 2022 models, while my car carries the L15B7 as per the manufacturer's early 2022 production records. Lack of Cooperation from Honda: I have contacted American Honda Motor Co. (Case #XXX) multiple times to request a technical solution or a software patch to allow the local dealer to access the car’s systems. Despite the clear evidence of a manufacturing record anomaly: 1.American Honda has been completely uncooperative, refusing to escalate the issue to their engineering team in Canada. 2.They have formally closed my case, stating they "operate independently" and cannot assist with vehicles outside their immediate region, even though the error originates from their own manufacturing database. Safety Risk: Due to this "Diagnostic Lock," I am unable to: • Perform critical safety recalls. • Update vehicle software/firmware. • Diagnose potential engine or safety system failures. I am reporting a severe steering safety defect on my 2022 Honda Civic that matches the symptoms of NHTSA Campaign Number 24V-744 and Honda TSB 23-037.At highway speeds (40–70 mph), the steering wheel "sticks" or "notches" in the center position. To make small lane adjustments, I must apply significant force to "break" the wheel loose. This causes the car to jerk or overcorrect, creating a high risk of a collision. Additionally, there is a metallic clicking/knocking noise coming from the steering rack during low-speed maneuvers.I have contacted Honda Corporate, but they denied a repair because my specific VIN has not yet been uploaded to the 24V-744 recall database, despite the vehicle exhibiting the exact manufacturing defect (swollen worm gear/high friction) described in the recall. The vehicle has approximately 62,000 miles and the issue has been persistent since 40,000 miles.I am requesting that NHTSA investigate why my production batch is excluded from the current recall despite having an identical steering gearbox failure that renders the vehicle unsafe to drive.
The contact's son owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while her son was driving at a moderate speed through city traffic, the vehicle drove over a pothole and the front and rear passenger’s side air bags deployed. The contact's son had not suffered any injuries; however, the front passenger’s side seat belt was damaged. Despite the air bag deployment, the vehicle was still drivable. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was repeatedly informed by various employees that they could not guarantee that any repair performed to the air bags would fix the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The insurance company referred the contact to the NHTSA to file a complaint. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V064000 (Air Bags); and associated the failure with the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
The 2022 Honda Civic (Sport) with approx. 13,000 miles had been driving fine for the previous 10 minutes, on and off the highway, when I was almost home and on a more residential 25-30mph road. All of a sudden all of the warning lights went off on the dashboard at once, so I went to brake to slow down and pull over. But the brakes were completely failing - the pedal would just hit the back of the foot well. The emergency brake is electronic, so that wouldn't work either. I was lucky to be immediately next to a grocery store parking lot, so I roll into that. As soon as I make the turn flames began shooting out from under the hood, reaching maybe 6" up the windshield. This is only 5 or 6 seconds after the warning lights had started, and it was clear that the fire inside of the engine bay was substantial. I managed to coast to the back of the parking lot, away from other cars and people, and found a curb "island" that I could run into in order to stop the vehicle. I effectively crashed the car, and at this point the flames had increased. I ran out of the vehicle and shouted for people to call 911. Within a minute the entire front half of the car was engulfed in 10+ foot flames. The fire department showed up a minute later and put out the fire, and after only maybe 3 minutes maximum the only things left in the car were metal and wires. The dashboard was entirely gone, seats were just their metal frames, etc. If the door had been jammed I would have burned alive.
Cruise control suddenly stopped working along with 5 warnings on dash which indicated to take vehicle to Dealer. This occured out of the blue, at 80,000 miles, with no prior indication of a problem and after a steering recall about months ago in August. Dealer says the power steering rack motor and plugs have melted. They claimed they had no idea how. Dealer wants approx. $10K to fix, wants me to replace the Steering rack and motor along with entire Wiring harness. this Assembly is about 3 inches from the muffler and a flimsy small heat guard. There are no signs of a fire, this is an overheating issue caused by poor engineering.
The rearview camera automatically projects onto the center display when applying the brake. On the morning of 2/16, the center display was showing the rearview camera view my entire morning commute to work. It is likely an electrical issue (short). This impacts my safety because if I need to access anything on my main display I cannot do it if the car is automatically displaying the rearview camera view. This is very distracting while driving and if others are dealing with a similar issue, they could be too focused on trying to mess with the display and take their attention of driving circumstances. I have not yet taken the car to the dealer to get it looked at. The issue first started on 2/13/26. The vehicle is up to date on inspection but again I have not yet brought it in to the dealer to get it looked at. There are no warning lights or messages that appeared prior to failure.
I reversing in my driveway, I heard a loud 'pop' from the front driver's side followed by a total loss of steering control. Upon inspection, a steering component (tie rod) appears to have snapped/failed. This vehicle is subject to NHTSA Recall #23V704000 for an incorrectly assembled steering rack that allows for excessive stroke length and contact with suspension components. I have not been in a recent accident; this was a spontaneous mechanical failure while maneuvering at low speed. Additionally, the authorized dealer (Norm Reeves Honda Cerritos) is refusing to perform the recall inspection without an upfront $190 diagnostic fee, obstructing the free remedy mandated by federal law.
After recall was done. Car is still experiencing hard to turn, jerking and clicking noises when turning to park. Was on highway and car jerked caused me to almost hit a passing car.
The vehicle experiences an intermittent engine and/or electrical system failure causing the car to losing acceleration while driving. The exact component has not been identified because the failure is intermittent. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The problem has not been duplicated by the dealership, and they have declined to repair the vehicle on that basis. However, the issue continues to occur intermittently despite being reported. The vehicle has been presented to an authorized Honda dealership for inspection. The manufacturer has not identified the cause due to the intermittent nature of the failure. No inspection has been performed by police or insurance representatives. There are no consistent warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. The vehicle looses acceleration suddenly and without warning. The problem first started about a month ago and most recently happened today when our car was almost rear ended due to the car loosing acceleration drastically on its own.
On Sunday, December 14, 2025, I was driving a 2022 Honda Civic Sport with my wife in the passenger seat when the vehicle’s driver-assist/steering system unexpectedly intervened and caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway and down a steep embankment (approximately 40–50 feet) without driver input. I attempted to correct the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to respond as expected. There was no intentional steering command to leave the roadway. The vehicle appeared to steer itself, resulting in a crash. Both occupants sustained injuries. I suffered a neck/collarbone injury and a concussion. My wife suffered a concussion, a large laceration to her outer right calf, and bruising. Medical treatment was required and was sought at urgent care. After the incident, warning indicators were present on the dashboard. I later became aware that this model year has known complaints and recalls related to steering, lane-assist, or driver-assist system malfunctions. These issues were not disclosed at the time the vehicle was purchased used from a dealership. This appears to be a serious safety defect that poses a risk of injury or death to drivers and passengers. The vehicle is currently unsafe to operate.
I was driving on a very busy road and the car completely died and would not go into park. It was like the battery was not even there. The steering wheel locked up, hazards would not come on and all the doors locked and would not unlock. There was no power to the car whatsoever. The drivers side door had to be pried open from the outside so I could get out of the car. We had the battery tested and is tested completely fine. The car has done this three times now.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the steering wheel felt sticky while driving and making turns. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000(Steering) was performed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the recall repair was performed for a second time; however, the failure had worsened. The dealer was notified and recommended the steering rack replacement based on past experiences. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but declined to cover the steering rack replacement because it was not covered by the recall. The contact stated that the recall remedy had failed to correct the steering failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The back tires are wearing down too fast due to the fact the wheels are force to be thurned inwards
IN NOVEMBER 2025 A BURNING SMELL WAS NOTICED WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CLUTCH FAILURE. THE BURNING SMELL RETURNED WHEN THE DEALER WAS ASSESSING THE VEHICLETHE CAR IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED BUT I HAVE ASKED FOR THE PARTS TO BE KEPT FOR ME POST REPAIR. THE ISSUE PUTS OTHERS AT RISK DUE TO UNPREDICTABILITY IN SHIFTING ABILITY, POSSIBLE SMOKE/FLAMES DUE TO WEAR AND INABILITY TO PUT CAR INTO GEAR. A DEALER HAS IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS CLUTCH FAILURE. NO ONE HAS INSPECTED THE PARTS OTHER THAN THE DEALER. THERE WERE NO WARNING LAMPS, MESSAGES, ETC UNTIL THE BURNING SMELL. THE DEALER HAS ATTRIBUTED THE CLUTCH FAILURE TO WEAR AND TEAR, HOWEVER THE CAR IS DRIVEN BY AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND HAS ONLY 44K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. A PREVIOUS SAFETY BULLETIN (HONDA TSB 22-017) WAS ISSUED THE SAME PROBLEM FOR VEHICLE YEARS 2020 AND 2021 BUT DID NOT INCLUDE 2022. THE MANUFACTURER HAS REFUSED TO INVESTIGATE WHETHER THIS COULD BE AN EXTENSION OF THAT SAFETY BULLETIN. AN ONLINE SEARCH INDICATED THAT THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED IN A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. T
Prior to receiving official recall repair instructions, I experienced sudden and unexpected issues with the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system. These issues resulted in a loss of steering control, which caused my vehicle to become involved in an accident [XXX]. This incident not only caused significant damage to my vehicle but also resulted in personal injuries for which I am still recovering. Because the recall repairs were not yet completed at the time of the accident, I was forced to pay out of pocket to repair certain parts that I didn’t know was due to the recall. I have incurred expenses that I should not have been responsible for, as these failures are explicitly recognized by Honda and the NHTSA as safety defects. I contacted Honda. I have a case number Case [XXX]. I was informed to submit documents for any pieces that I did have to buy. did that for about one month after that I was informed that they will not reimburse me for any damages that was correspondence Accident as I have a lot of damage to the front passenger side of my car as I ran into the cement barrier on the highway. Before this accident, I did not have any warning, lamps, messages or symptoms problems with my car. Not sure how I will pay for all these repairs. I contacted Honda to see if I can get the recalls done, but I still have damage to my vehicle due to the accident cause by recall, I did not know there were two recalls to my vehicle until after the accident, I took it to the mechanic and he let me know there’s an issue with my rack. I need to go contact Honda. I would like to know who will reimburse me or pay for the bodywork that I need time to my vehicle. entering [XXX] heading to Jersey City from Bayonne. I was driving onto the highway in the steering wheel felt funny , it was sticky or something. was pressing the breaks and turning away from the Railing and the wheel was not turning I ended up going into the railing on the right and damaging my front right passenger INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was in an accident due to the recall. I paid for the steering rack replacement as Honda dealership refused to replace it. I need reimbursement for replacing this part
Car won’t go into gear. Unable to drive. Smoke smell inside cabin. Dealer states likely a clutch/clutch plate issue. Apparently, reported on previous year model with a tsb but not on the 2022 one. Need to tow car to dealership now
Civic developed a misfire. Diagnosis at the Honda service center revealed a leaking #2 fuel injector causing fuel wash-down into cylinder #2. This led to fouled & broken spark plugs in cylinders 2 and 3, blown head gasket, scored cylinder wall in cylinder #2, hairline crack in cylinder head and valve damage. Engine and head have been deemed unsalvageable by the Honda service center. Honda has indicated this vehicle will not be covered under TSB A18-025 and Warranty Extension 21-010 despite being the same engine family (L15B7/L15CA) used in 2016-2021 Civics that were completely covered.
While driving on a regular basis steering wheel is sticking. Have to jerk the wheel to get it unstuck. It is scary when having to jerk wheel and not lose control when it unsticks. Took it to dealership advised needs new steering rack for almost $4000.
When driving the vehicle the park brake abs and steering control lights come on the vehicle intermittently when driving the vehicle
The vehicle has 42,070 miles on it. It was being driven and suddenly the clutch started to slip. Then, when trying to pull away after a stop, the vehicle only was able to travel at 8 miles/hour in first gear. No messages were received before the clutch failed. Vehicle was towed to a local repair shop and we were given a quote to replace clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate. We then had it towed to a Honda repair center to seek assistance from Honda on the repair because the clutch failed at such low mileage and they diagnosed the cause as premature wear and tear. We know that a bulletin was put out in September 2022 regarding clutch failures with certain Honda Civic Sport models from 2020 and 2021, so we asked Honda for support. They declined because the 2022 model was not covered by the bulletin, even though our Honda had already been produced before that bulletin was released. We believe that our issue is related to the issues with the 2020 and 2021 models and have found that other 2022 and 2023 owners have experienced similar failures. We have included our request letter and escalation request, as well as the repair quote from Zeigler Honda Racine, WI.
Passenger rear seat beat buckle no longer buckles to keep kids safe in the rear seat.
On July 1 and July 27 when I started the vehicle a warning came on saying collision mitigation braking issue. See your dealer. It is available for inspection upon request. Will call dealer tomorrow. Not inspected yet. Will call dealership tomorrow. By info we are reading, there is no solution to this. Huge concern. Huge safety issue.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? My steering rack is damaged and needs replacement (confirmed by Honda Dealership). This causes the steering wheel to get stuck into place (mainly left side). To dislodge it you need to jerk it to the other side which causes the vehicle to become unstable. I first noticed this problem on March 20, 2025. I ignored it at first, but the problem got worse with time until last week my steering wheel locked into place and sent me into the left lane. Luckily there were no cars on the road, as this would have caused a major accident. This issue is life threatening to both myself and other drivers on the road. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, attached scan below. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, by Honda Dealership Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, no warnings, the problem just began. This problem was documented in NHTSA campaign #23V704000.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was shaking with an abnormal ticking sound coming from the steering. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
I took my vehicle to the dealer after receiving the first recall notice. They inspected it and informed me that my car was not part of the recall, so they returned it to me. However, I continued to receive recall letters and communications from attorneys regarding the issue. According to the dealer, my car was in good condition. Despite this, I recently noticed unusual movement in the steering wheel, which ultimately caused me to crash into a concrete pole.
There are 2 recalls on this car. A gearbox and power steering rack, the dealer has not replaced either one of them. They greased the power steering rack, and that's it. When steering to the right or left, there's a very large grinding sound and they are stating that it did not come from a power steering rack, faulty, they didn't even check the power steering rack or the gearbox, all they did was grease the power steering rack. I want this remedied, my daughter drives this car and there's something going on with the power steering rack, and it is starting to affect other issues in the car, tie rods, bearings etc and that's not fair. The manufacturer should be replacing these items. Steering components are a huge safety issue in this car and the manufacturer at the dealership will not replace these items.
Recall repair completed 6/13/2025 (steering related recall) A steering recall repair was completed on 6/13/20025 on my vehicle. The steering felt normal for approximately one week then began sticking again and has progressively worsened. The steering now binds and physically "grabs" 100% of the time. While navigating through curves, the steering wheel remains in the turned position and does not return smoothly to center. When attempting to correct, the steering overcorrects due to the binding sensation. This has resulted in at least two near-collision events. The vehicle is driven approximately 70 highway miles daily, creating a significant safety concern. No steering warning lights are illuminated. Additionally, adaptive cruise control also intermittently stops working while driving and will not re-engage until the ignition is turned off and restarted. When attempting to re-engage, the system emits three beeps and will not activate. The vehicle was evaluated at an authorized Honda dealership on 3/2/2026. The dealer stated they could not reproduce the steering or adaptive cruise control issue. A brake switch circuit code (C0041-14) and condensation in a taillight assembly were noted, and taillight replacement was suggested before further diagnosis. However, the steering binding continues during normal operation. An aftermarket lighting module (installed by a prior owner years ago) was noted. However, the vehicle has been serviced, and a 21-point inspection performed several times, of which revealed no issues with either the taillight or the installed lighting. The vehicle did have steering issues before the recall repair and had every symptom that was stated in the recall. After the repair there were no issues for at least a week, even with the aftermarket component being present, and then the malfunction returned and worsened as time went on. This condition poses a serious safety risk. The vehicle is available for inspection.
Clutch failed at 45000 miles due to early wear. Clutch failed on interstate and resulted in full power loss of vehicle requiring a tow. Honda had previously identified a manufacturing defect with the friction plate as noted in SB-22017 issued in Sept 2022 covering MY 2020 and 2021 vehicles. My vehicle was built in late 2021 and was equipped with the same part as identited as failing in SB-22017. Per Honda dealer, repair of my vehicle is not currently covered by SB and therefore all costs are responsibility of owner. As the SB was issued months after my vehicle and transmission were built, the failed part is likely in MY 2022 vehicles as well.
Sticky Steering & Fluctuating Steering Torque. Car loses control due to this steering problem. There was a recall for this problem (SJS 2022-25 Civic EPS Grbx Greasing Saf Rec). Dealer repaired the recall but the issue came after short period of time. So the the repair was not done properly.
When driving at any speed above 30mph the steering wheel sticks. This is quite scary and has cause some very close calls when driving down the busy highway. I have taken it to the dealership several times and they have yet to fix this dangerous issue.
Came to a stop at a stoplight, auto idle stop was in use and the engine failed to start again. The car acted like the battery was dead and everything turned off.
After recall it is still hard to turn. And dealership ask me to pay to repair it.
Upon attempting to use my air conditioner for the 1st time this year I found that it would only blow out hot air. Contacted the dealer who said they would charge me $160 to look at it. I ended up contacting another car repair shop who took it in and did a full check and found that the compressor had no damage but was leaking freon that they had to add because my car had NONE. The car is only 2 years old. Upon further research I found that several hundred thousand 10th gen Hondas were given extended warranties to 100,000 miles because of the same exact issue. I called the dealer back about this and they said that my car is 11th gen so not part of this extended warranty. It appears obvious to me that this problem continues with this new 11th gen. People should be warned. This is a huge expense and it's simply unacceptable for a 2 year old car.

Found out the my car has a recall last december 2024. I drove to my dealership and told them about it. they said they dont have available parts for the recall in my car and the service advisor I talked to was told me that they have the parts for the recall but they prioritize the newer car so that they can sell it. then I called the manufacturer and let them know what the dealership was told me. 2 days later the manufacturer called me and said that they contacted my dealership and letting me know that they were be able to fix my car about the safety recall. but after I drove my car to my dealership and got it fixed and its all good as they said, but when I drove my car nothing change and its gets more difficult to control the steering wheel until now. most drivers thinks I'm drunk and keep their distance away from my car. then I brought my car back to the dealership and told them about it and they said they already done the repaired and got it fix but the repaired seems unsuccessful.
risk of crash is expressed
Cruise control beeps and turns off by itself and doesn't come back on. Has been happening for months. I took it in to dealer and the said everything was fine and it is not and my warranty had now expired.
On [XXX] the steering system on my 2022 Honda Civic failed as I was exiting the the city's inner loop in downtown Rochester, NY. Simultaneously, the entire dash screen lit up. It was fortunately a momentary failure and I was able to avoid an accident. I had purchased the car 9 days before, on [XXX]. In conversation with the sales rep., I mentioned that the steering didn't feel quite right. He suggested that I just needed to become familiar with the newness of it. I accepted his explanation. I was paying for a Certified Pre-Owned Honda, and felt confident that the vehicle had been fully inspected for any steering issues. The day before the steering failure, I notified the same sales rep that the car's maintenance signal went on. He suggested it was indicating an oil change, which would have in itself been an issue since the car was not due for one. After notifying the sales rep and dealership manager of the steering failure, the manager arranged for delivery of a loaner car and had my vehicle returned to their service department. The following day, he relayed to me that the service tech did not find a problem and questioned if I could be mistaking the lane assist technology as a steering failure. I assured him that wasn't the case and, again, described the flash of light from the dash that accompanied the failure. By this time, I had discovered online the Honda recalls for steering failure including the 2022 Civic. I also read driver reports that described the lit-up dash. The manager claimed not to know of any recalls or problems but said he would pass the information on to the service tech. I asked if the service tech. would know if the previous owner had the car serviced for any recalls since I only had access to current recall status. I'm waiting to hear back from the manager. Few months afyer i bought this car brand new it started leaking oil from valve cover gasket. Took the car u to dealer i was told its normal to leak out which surprised me to hear from service that ots normal to leak oil from calve cover gasket. It was replaced. At 70k miles i syarted seeing oil seeping through bell housing but it wasn't alot so i though it might have spilled during oil change. At 110k miles it is leaking alot and after taking it to repair shop im told that its leaking from rear main seal and its leaking onto hot exhaust. Unfortunately honda wont cover this because of the mileage. Hondas used to be reliable but not anymore.
As you are driving the the car will just say (Brake) on the dash and will quickly apply the brakes when going slow and it's happened at speeds around 65 mph. With the cruise control on. Took car into Honda dealership no issues they said
Went to start my car one night after it had been perfectly fine throughout the day when 5 warning lights came on, Lane Keeping assist system, Collision mitigation braking system, Road Departure mitigation system. Auto High Beam problem and Adaptive Cruise Control system problem. I immediately went online to see how i could possibly fix the problem and found numerous message boards with people with fairly new low mileage Hondas complaining about the same issue and stating either various completely different solutions or no luck finding a solution. Other than those warning lights everything else on the car is functioning right and the battery is still in good shape.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal knocking, rattling, and ticking sound coming from under the hood. The vehicle was drifting and shaking. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the failure was due to the pulley and power steering. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, who scanned the vehicle and retrieved codes for the EPS malfunction power steering. The driver's side front and rear tires were replaced. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 24V744000 (Steering) and 23V704000 (Steering); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The dealer completed the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24744000 (Steering). The steering wheel has a difficult time making small adjustments. The adjustments feel like the steering wheel is stuck and requires additional effort to make small adjustments.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was pulling to the left or the right independently. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (Steering); however, the recall repair failed to prevent the failure. Shortly after the recall repair was completed, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer however, the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall again, because the recall repair was a one-time free repair. The vehicle was taken to several local dealers to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the EPS steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
