There are 21 owner-reported driver assist & adas complaints for the 2022 Honda Civicin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
Went to start my car one night after it had been perfectly fine throughout the day when 5 warning lights came on, Lane Keeping assist system, Collision mitigation braking system, Road Departure mitigation system. Auto High Beam problem and Adaptive Cruise Control system problem. I immediately went online to see how i could possibly fix the problem and found numerous message boards with people with fairly new low mileage Hondas complaining about the same issue and stating either various completely different solutions or no luck finding a solution. Other than those warning lights everything else on the car is functioning right and the battery is still in good shape.
I rented this car. The adaptive cruise worked great in the daytime, but when it got dark and started to rain, the system started to lose its ability to detect other vehicles. Instead of disabling itself like it should have, the system continued to operate. It often would detect vehicles intermittently, speeding up and slowing down randomly and abruptly. The worst incident was when I was behind an unloaded flatbed semi (again, it was dark and raining.) The car lost track of the semi and accelerated to my set speed. As I got closer, but not THAT close, the car suddenly thought I was much closer than I was and initiated automated emergency braking. It then lost sight of the semi and repeated this cycle a few more times before I turned off cruise control. There was no one behind me, or this could have been a serious accident. I looked in the owner's manual to see how to disable the system and was appalled to see that it uses a single camera instead of a radar. This is obviously unsafe in bad weather, and the system did not disable itself appropriately.
While driving the wheel moved trying to correct itself. It was raining so that caused us to hydroplane into a ditch.
On multiple occaisions the forward collision braking system has engaged erroniously while traveling on highways or interstates. Sudden heavy braking in these scenarios is disorienting and puts my at higher risk of rear end collision and of traction loss. The Honda dealer has been made aware of the issue but has dismissed it and refused to forward the complaint to Honda. There were no warnings or notifications other than the indicator that the forward collision braking system was being engaged.
While driving the car with the cruise set at any random speed, the adaptive cruise control would "cancel" and a long beep noise would sound. When attempting to "resume" cruise control, three quick beeps can be heard and the cruise control would not activate. The car has to be shut off and cranked back up for the cruise control to work again. The dealership I took it to claimed they could not recreate the issue. There are no DTC codes and no warning lights. It has been happening since I purchased the vehicle in February of 2022. The sudden cancellation of the cruise control can pose a safety issue for drivers behind me and myself.
All of the lights come on periodically (lane departure can’t be used, it says braking system error, it says braking system could be decreased and says to have car serviced) I’ve taken it to the dealership once and they could not replicate it and said it could be a sensor but wasn’t sure I paid for a inspection because they didn’t know. Searching things now there are a ton of forums with the same problem for the same model and make.
Recently I saw the Collision mitigation Breaking system problem and Adaptive cruise control system problem in my car. Honda has not resolved this issue, so taking it to the dealer will not resolve the issue and it is a safety issue because without any reason at any speed the car can abruptly stop and cause accidents. I asked the Honda dealer if they can disable this function and they said they can’t disable it. That is why I don’t feel safe driving this car.
Collision mitigation breaking system problem.
Cruise control disengages then slows down very quickly, then will not reengage. You have to keep pulling over and restarting the car for the system to come back on line. It's random and keeps happening.
The car was attempting to correct itself even when I was in the middle of the lane. Switching lanes often caused this as well. On multiple occasions it attempted to over correct me into other drivers and at high speeds this could have killed me if I was not paying attention. Upon informing the dealership they asked “what do you want us to do”. Upon informing Honda corporate they said they would make note and send it to engineers with no direct action taken
The cruise control stopped working all of a sudden on the freeway with a beep. When trying to turn it back on it beeps again and shows the off sign on the cruise control icon in the display screen.
I owned 2 of these 2022 civics equipped with Honda's Collision mitigation braking technology. This is the year they removed the forward radar and relied only on a single camera unit. I was involved in a rear end collision where I was the rear ender even with the distance setting on the furthest setting. The accident was on the highway at about 40MPH. A vehicle Merging on to the highway stopped in front of me in my lane. I was using adaptive cruise control. I can tell you the responsive of this system had me worried from in several other situations I was in. Not only did the adaptive cruise fail detect and slow the vehicle based on the vehicle in front of me, the safety system did not make any attempt to slow the vehicle and no detection was made by the system until about .2 seconds (or about 6') prior to the actual impact. I investigated the safety systems logs with a Honda mechanic by connecting a device to the OBD2 port and downloading the logs to a computer to verify indeed it failed to properly detect any obstacle until it was far to late. This seems to be a concern other Honda drivers have expressed as well with this revision of their Collision mitigation braking system. I believe they market as if this and the adaptive cruise system are features you can rely on to keep you safe and while I understand it can not account for every situation this was a perfectly clear day in Arizona at about 5:30pm in moderate day light. I believe this system is dangerous and has serious flaws that do not properly detect vehicles in front of you in many situations is extremely slow to react in almost every situation. I attempted to upload these logs but you do not accept the file format they were exported in. If I can send these another way please let me know.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced phantom braking while driving at various speeds with the cruise control activated. The contact stated that an unknown sensor obstruction warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the mechanics were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
I was driving in an empty highway and it would ghost brake with no car in front of me. It has happened multiple times that my last incident almost caused an accident behind me. I have tried to get serviced and they won’t listen
The Collision Mitigation System has spontaneously engaged 4 times with no obstacles in front or to the side of my car. 3 incidents were on city streets with a low rate of speed. The 4th incident happened on the freeway at about 65MPH! I had no vehicles in front of me or to the side of me but I had several behind me. The car came to a screeching halt on the freeway with a truck behind me. Thankfully the truck was far enough behind that he was able to maneuver around me. I was able to get the car going and pulled over to the shoulder of the freeway and threw up because I thought for a moment that I might die if the truck had slammed into me. It was very close and the truck driver was pretty angry as he passed. There were no obstacles in any of the 4 instances. I asked about the issue during the next routine tune up but was told they couldn't replicate it and no codes from the car. It's happened 4 times since June 2021 when I bought the car brand new from the Honda dealership. I'm scared to get on the freeway now after that last incident. They can't replicate it they said - so now what do I do with a car I can't rely upon to be safe?
On several (more than 10) occasions, my vehicle at random has randomly either shown me "BRAKE" or it actually started to brake for me for absolutely nothing. On at least 3 occasions, most recently 5/9/22, the AEB system has activated with nothing in front of me on a straight, level road. Third-party forums report that this is a known issue as well. Thankfully no one was behind me as the system activating would have rapidly slowed the car had I not intervened.
I’ve had my car for three four months and today Some light turned on in the car saying my brake system is failing Lane collision High lights failings Auto cruise failing
While driving on a interstate highway with adaptive cruise control enabled the adaptive cruise control system unexpectedly disabled itself. I was in the process of passing another vehicle, it was sunny and clear and suddenly I heard a long beep and the vehicle started to slow down. I briefly looked at the dashboard but see any warning but noticed ACC was off. Once it was safe again I attempted to re-enable ACC but the system refused saying ACC was off. At the next rest area I stopped and shut off the vehicle, only after that I could use ACC again. It's unknown if any of the other Honda sense features were disabled but this unexpected behavior is a concern. There is an entire thread at https://www.civic11forum.com/threads/anybody-having-cruise-control-issues.963/ which indicates others are having the same issue.
in a few different events I have had my 2022 civic but emergency brake with no object in front of me and pull me out of the lane instead of steering me in lane. I have provided Honda with video and picture evidence and they can't seem to do anything to fix it and I can no longer comfortable use those features and feel safe driving the vehicle.
Driving car on I-76 in Pennsylvania. Speed set to 72 MPH. Passed a truck and the cruise control shut off without warning and would not restart. This posed a risk to me because I had just completed a pass of a truck and started to slow without my knowledge. This resulted in the truck catching back up to me on a curve - a dangerous situation (a truck would never pass on the right, let alone in a curve.)
