2005 HONDA CRV. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE BRIDGESTONE TIRE. *LD *TR
THE TIRE WAS FLAT FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND WE PULLED INTO A UHAUL LOCATION WHERE THEY FILLED AIR AND APPARENTLY NO AIR WAS LEAKING. HOWEVER, WE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO COSTCO TIRE CENTER SINCE THE MICHELINS WERE PURCHASED THERE AND THEY EXAMINED AND SAID THE RIMS WERE "DAMAGED". THERE IS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE FROM OUTSIDE BUT ACCORDING TO THEM, THE AIR LEAKS FROM THE INSIDE IN THE RIM AND THE TIRE HAS BEEN FLAT AGAIN. WE THOUGHT IT IS THE VALVE BUT EVEN AFTER VALVE REPLACEMENT, ITS THE SAME ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE BUT WE HAD A VALVE CHANGED THEN TOO AND IT WORKED APPARENTLY. NOT SURE IF THE RIMS ARE NOT ACCURATELY MACHINED BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE A PREVALENT PROBLEM. *TR
FLAT TIRE WAS OBSERVED. THE STOCK STEEL RIMS AND TIRE WERE EXAMINED. A CRACK WAS DISCOVERED ALONG THE SEAM OF THE RIM LEAKING AIR LOOKING AT IT FROM THE AXLE PERSPECTIVE. I'VE HAD FRIENDS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE CRV RIMS. *JS
THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT JOYCE HONDA IN DENVILLE, NJ ROUTINELY OVERINFLATES THEIR CUSTOMER'S TIRES BY AT LEAST 5 LBS IN WINTER. THEY TELL ME THAT THEY DO THAT SO THAT THEY'RE NOT GETTING LOTS OF CALLS FROM CUSTOMERS WHEN THEIR TPMS LIGHT GOES OFF. I CAN'T SEE HOW THAT PRACTICE BENEFITS ANYONE BUT THEM BY SAVING THEM FROM HAVING TO EXPLAIN THAT, IF THE LIGHT IS ON, YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE. *TR
VIBRATION IN STEERING SYSTEM OF CAR AFTER INSTALLING 4 NEW BRIDGESTONE DUELLER 684 TIRES. TIRES HAVE BEEN BALANCED 3 TIMES BUT VIBRATION CONTINUES. CHECKED LATERAL RUNOUT ON TIRES AND FOUND IT TO VARY FROM .055 TO .070" WHILE RADIAL RUNOUT WAS FOUND TO BE ..060" TO .065". THESE READING WERE FROM 3 TIRES MANUFACTURED IN TOKYO PLANT IN WEEK 44 OF 2009. A 4TH TIRE MANUFACTURED IN A MEXICO PLANT HAD VERY LOW LATERAL AND RADIAL RUNOUTS. TIRE IDENTIFICATION DATA IS AS FOLLOWS: BRIDGESTONE DUELLER HT 684 DOT EMHBCEK4409. (3 EACH) ALL TIRES STILL IN USE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CRV. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE RIMS LEAKED, CAUSING THE TIRES TO GO FLAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE RIMS. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
I WAS GETTING AN OIL CHANGE AND THE ATTENDANT DOING THE CHANGE POINTED OUT A PROBLEM WITH ALL FOUR OF MY TIRES. THE SIDEWALLS HAD MULTIPLE CRACKS IN THEM. SOME ARE AN INCH LONG AND LOOK DEEP. THE MANAGER OF THE FACILITY SAID THEY WERE CAUSED BY THE SUN. I CONTACTED MICHELIN AND THEY SEEMED TO AGREE. I DON'T BELIEVE IT. ALL FOUR TIRES HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I DON'T HAVE MY RECEIPT ANY LONGER. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN FALL OF 2008. I THINK THE CRACKS ARE DANGEROUS AND COULD RESULT IN A BLOWOUT. I READ ABOUT 5 BLOWOUTS THAT OCCURRED WITH THESE SAME STYLE TIRES WHERE THE DRIVER DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE BLOWOUT. MAYBE THE TIRES HAD CRACKS. MICHELIN DOES NOT MAKE HARMONY TIRES ANYMORE. AT LEAST, I COULDN'T FIND ANY FOR SALE. TREAD DEPTH IS ABOUT 7/32". I HAVE PHOTOS THAT SHOW THE CRACKS WELL. I YOU WANT TO SEE THEM, LET ME KNOW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA CRV. THE VEHICLE HAS BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T 684 II, SIZE P245/70R16 TIRES. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING SOUND AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN DRIVING ROUGHLY. HE STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE TIRE TREAD CAME OFF AND WAS ROLLING ACROSS THE ROAD. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE ARRIVED TO REPLACE THE TIRES. EIGHT MONTHS EARLIER, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED, BUT NO ONE INFORMED HIM OF ANY TIRE FAILURE. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS, DOT NUMBER, AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
A BOLT CAME LOOSE AND FELL OFF ON THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL CAUSING THE TIRE TO BREAK FREE AND GO SIDEWAYS. *TR
WE PURCHASED A 2005 HONDA CRV IN JULY OF 2005, WHICH CAME WITH BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T 684 215/65R16 98T TIRES. DEALERSHIP HAS INSPECTED THE CAR EVERY YR. SINCE THEN. AT INSPECTION IN SEPT. OF 2007, THERE WERE 13,180 MILES ON THE 2 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH THE ORIGINAL TIRES. NO PROBLEM INDICATED BY SERVICEMAN WITH TIRES AT THAT TIME. OVER CHRISTMAS OF 2007, 3 MOS. LATER, MY DAUGHTER AND HER HUSBAND SAT IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE VEHICLE, AND NOTICED A LOUD NOISE FROM THE AREA OF THE TIRES. NEXT DAY HUSBAND TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP TO BE CHECKED OUT. INSTEAD, DEALER SET APPT. FOR TUES. JAN. 8, 2007. IN BETWEEN THOSE 2 TIMES, VEHICLE HAD AN OIL CHANGE AT JIFFY LUBE. THE SERVICEMAN AT THE JIF. LUBE STATED FRONT TIRES WERE WORN AND NEEDED IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT--INTERESTING SINCE ALL OTHER DEALERSHIP OIL CHANGES PERFORMED MENTIONED NO TIRE WEAR. AT THE APPT. ON JAN.8, 2008 [VALLEY HONDA, 4221 WILLIAM PENN HIGHWAY, MONROEVILLE, PA 15146--PH:412-373-3000] A MECHANIC INSPECTED THE TIRES ON VEHICLE, WHICH NOW HAD 15,730 MILES ON THEM, THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THE STEEL BELTS INSIDE OF THE BACK TIRES WERE BROKEN! HE ASKED ABOUT THE USE OF THE VEHICLE FOR VARIOUS PURPOSES TO WHICH I RESPONDED NO ON ALL ACCOUNTS. IN ADDITION, IF WE HAD HIT A HOLE HARD ENOUGH TO BREAK THE STEEL BELTS IN BOTH OF THE BACK TIRES, ONE WOULD THINK THE CAR WOULD BE OUT OF ALIGNMENT, WHICH IT IS NOT. NO EXPLANATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP AS TO WHY THE FRONT TIRES WERE SO BADLY WORN AND NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE WEAR ON THE FRONT TIRES WAS NEVER NOTICED BY THEIR SERVICEMEN. THE DEALERSHIP STATED "THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THOSE TIRES" BUT, OFFERED TO SELL US 4 BRAND NEW YAMAHA TIRES AT $89.41 + $13.50 FOR INSTALLATION PER TIRE, PLUS TAX, PLUS A FEE TO DISPOSE OF THE OLD TIRES. SO FAR THESE TIRES HAVE NOT FAILED, BUT WE ARE SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON THE PARKWAY, TURNPIKE, FREEWAY, OR ANY HIGH SPEED ROAD FOR FEAR OF A TIRE FAILURE THAT MIGHT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT & INJURY. *TR
DRIVING ON FREEWAY AND PULLED OFF TO EAT. WHEN I PULLED INTO TIE RESTAURANT THE CAR HANDLED FUNNY SO I CHECKED THE TIRES WHEN I GOT OUT BUT THEY SEEMED OK. I CAME OUT FROM EATING AND THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS TOTALLY FLAT. ON INSPECTION THE SIDEWALL WAS BLOWN OUT ABOUT 2-3 INCHES IN A JAGGED PATTERN. LATER LOOKING AT THE TIRE AT HOME THERE APPEARED TO BE ANOTHER CRACK IN THE TIRE. I CALLED BRIDGESTONE TO REPLACE THE TIRE AFTER MY BRIDGESTONE DEALER STATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRE AND IT WAS DISCONTINUED. THEY STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE TIRE. ALSO THEY STATED THAT THIS TIRE WAS NOT THE TIRE THAT CAME WITH THE HONDA CR-V ORIGINALLY. THEY WERE NOT EVEN ABLE TO FIND THE TIRE IN THEIR SYSTEM. I FIND THIS CURIOUS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN INFORMED. THE TIRES WERE MAINTAINED CORRECTLY. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO NOISES HEARD PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH TO INDICATE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRE.
VEHICLE TIRES LOSING AIR DUE TO DEFECT IN SEAM OF RIM. THIS OCCURRED ON TWO OF MY CAR'S TIRES AND RIMS. COSTCO AUTO REPAIR PERSONNEL ADVISED THAT THERE IS A HOLE IN THE SEAM (OF THE RIM) WHICH IS CAUSING AIR TO LEAK OUT OF THE TIRE. *TR
TL* - THE BRIDGESTONE DUELER TIRE EXPLODED. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 72 MPH . THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE DRY. THE CONTACT HAS THE DAMAGED TIRE. THE 2005 HONDA CRV HAD APPROXIMATELY 34,000 MILES ON IT. THE CONTACT DID NOT STRIKE A ROAD HAZARD. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS OR INDICATOR LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SWERVE, AND THE TIRE EXPLODED. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ORIGINAL 4 TIRES O EXPLODED EXCEPT ONE WHICH REMAINED ON THE VEHICLE. IN AUGUST 2005 MY WIFE HAD A BLOWOUT IN OUR 6 MONTH OLD HONDA CRV WITH 6,000 MILES ON IT. SHE WAS TRAVELING AT 10 MPH IN HER EMPLOYERS PARKING LOT WHEN THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW LEAVING HER WITH A BROKEN NECK, CONCUSSION AND A FACIAL LACERATION. ALL PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AND NOTHING WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *NM
DAUGHTER DRIVING 2005 HONDA CR-V WITH ABOUT 1050 MILES AT ABOUT 70 MPH ON EXPRESSWAY. RIGHT REAR TIRE SUDDENLY LOST PRESSURE CAUSING ABRUPT VEHICLE DECELERATION. TIRE IS A BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T 684, OEM. ALTHOUGH SHE GOT OFF ROAD IMMEDIATELY, THE OUTSIDE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED AROUND THE PERIMETER, WITH SOME AREAS LOOKING ALMOST LIKE A CLEAN KNIFE CUT. TIRE PRESSURE HAD BEEN CHECKED THAT MORNING. THE RIM WAS UNDAMAGED, AND THE INSIDE WALL OF THE TIRE HAD NO DAMAGE. NO NAILS WERE FOUND IN THE TIRE, AND BOTH BEADS WERE STILL SEATED ON THE RIM. LUCKY IT WAS THE REAR TIRE.
