On July 25, 2023, in Naples, Florida, at approximately noon I was driving straight doing approximately 20MPH when the car suddenly hard braked, made a warning sound, something flashed on the screen and then, as suddenly, returned to normal driving. The outside temperature was 93-94F and there were no others automobiles in front, to the side or behind my CRV.
Warning lights on the dashboard are all going on at once. Something like this happened intermittently with the ADAS system; occasionally they would all report a malfunction. When turning off the car and restarting the car, they would go away. Now all warning lights are going off at once. This poses a safety hazard because any real problem is obscured by the cacophony of false alarms. Other folks have reported this issue.
I own a 2018 CRV, which only has 36,000 miles on it. This last week I had a "diagnostic" done on it at my Honda dealership (Howdy Honda in Austin TX) due to serious steering issues I was having. ( My steering makes a clicking/creaking noise when backing out of my driveway etc, and when driving, whichever direction I turn, the steering wheel sticks in that direction so I am forced to very firmly turn the steering wheel back to where it needs to be in order to control the car.) The dealership said I needed my "power steering gear box" replaced for $3,157 plus tax! But I was told today that the parts are on back order nationwide so it could be several weeks before they get them to repair my car! I'm a single lady with no other car to drive & my dealership does not provide "loaner cars" so I'll be picking up my car & driving it home tomorrow in it's current state. There has been no recall for my VIN number concerning this issue but it appears many 2018 CRV owners are having this same issue, some causing serious accidents! There were no warning messages or lamps when the problem began. It came on gradually & the more it's driven, the worse it gets.
While driving, the emergency braking system randomly illuminates and today it actually applied the brakes by itself. Nobody behind car thankfully. Apparently this is an issue for these cars.
Driving on Friday July21 on 495 beltway in northern VA , and i was in the middle lane of the highway with no object, car, and others in front with at least 150 yards. the CRV breaks automatically without warning. it was very terrifying, luckily no car was following me.
the problem with my car is the air conditioning. It blows air but warm air and not cold air. This affects my work since I work on a marine base out in the desert, and the 3 hour drive always overheats everything in my car including my phone and things I try to bring home. I had to pick up another marines family at the airport and their baby kept crying because the car was so hot. At Valvoline I asked about getting my AC fixed, and they referred me to getting a recall. Over near the base an Autozone employee told me I needed AC refrigerant, so I got the $155 since the CRV is 2018. It didn’t work even with the workers’ help so they told me that it’s my AC system that’s over pressured and I needed to get it fixed immediately.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 MPH, she heard the advanced forward collision alert chime and then the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the stop vehicle warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was being diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,100.
See attached document for complaint
While driving steering wheel gets stiff making it very difficult to stay in your lane and operate safely vehicle starts to pull to either side compromising everyone safety.
While driving approximately 30-40 mph, my car beeped the sound it makes when you are too close to an object and slammed on brakes. There was nothing there. All the things on my seat flew to the floor. Thankfully I wasn’t on a busy road and no one was in behind me or there would have been an accident. This could cause major accidents if on a major roads or on a highway. I have not had it checked yet but saw there is an open investigation about this problem through you and wanted to add my car to the list.
Driving on the freeway the splash guard fell partially down, making a horrible sound. It gave no warning. It was a very scary experience.
My 2018 CRV began idling rough so I scheduled an appointment. When I arrived, indicated that it sounded like I needed fuel injectors which they see alot with the CRV. After diagnostics on 7/17/2023, I was given a repair estimate of $2067, then told the parts were backordered until at least 8/13/2023. I have never had to replace fuel injectors on any other car I've owned. This issue has been recalled on other models and apparently the dealerships are well aware of the issue - replacing so many of these that Honda cant keep them in stock. A $2067 repair estimate for a faulty part is unreasonable at 80,000 miles. Even more concerning is that every warning light and chime in my car is going off and the advanced safety features are disabled. I cant drive with a cell phone in my hand due to distraction but apparently it is okay to drive around with warnings, chimes and disabled safety features.
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my deep safety concern regarding an issue I have encountered with the Honda CRV 2018 that I recently purchased from the Honda Dealership in Bellevue, Washington. I purchased the aforementioned vehicle from your authorized dealership two weeks ago. However, within a few days of ownership, I began experiencing persistent ALL warning signals on the vehicle's dashboard. Alarmed by this situation, I immediately contacted the salesperson at the dealership who suggested that the issue may be related to the battery. They are not respsonsbile to this issue. Following their advice, I scheduled an appointment with the Honda Maintenance Service to address the problem. However, during the waiting period, I came across some recommendations from other Honda CRV 2018 owners, who suggested resetting the software as a possible solution. Desperate to find a resolution, I followed their instructions and miraculously, the warning signals disappeared. Unfortunately, the relief was short-lived as the signals reappeared after I replaced the battery myself. Seeking another temporary solution, I reset the software once again, which resulted in the warning signals disappearing once more. However, it is disconcerting to experience such recurring issues in a relatively new purchase. These warning signals not only cause anxiety but also raise concerns about the safety and reliability of the vehicle. Considering the seriousness of this matter, I kindly request your department's intervention to investigate and request the Honda to address this issue with the utmost urgency. It is essential to determine the root cause of the warning signals and provide an effective and permanent solution to ensure the proper functioning and safety of the vehicle.
Twice now, Emergency braking system caused car to unexpectedly brake without warning with no obstacle in front of the car. both times I was almost rear ended by the car behind me.
Alternating multiple System Problem messages lit up the Dashboard & a bell sounded. Took car to Honda dealer, diagnosis was faulty fuel injection system which needed to be replaced ( cost estimate $1500). Was told Parts are on back order, won’t be in for 4-6 weeks. Dealer advised not to drive vehicle. Dealer would not offer a loaner.
While driving the steering gets heavy and seams like it’s trying to jump back to a drop dead centering position. I had the car at a dealership with approximately 32000 miles on it and they said they reset a zero positioning sensor. I guess they have to say something. The steering clicks and will actually pull another way. My wife refused to drive it and seeing how we have another one these vehicles we can sure as hell tell the difference. An older person or even my parents would be scared to death when this happened. I can’t believe HONDA isn’t taking the initiative to address this issue with reading so many comparable complaints. The dealerships try to deflect from the issue by coming up some automotive jargon solution like your tires are low on air, ( HAVE NEW) your sensor was reset etc, only to reach a point of a $2500. 00 repair. I had or have lots of Honda products through the years and maybe their not the quality I remember but nevertheless when you have other Honda’s steering fine when you drive them in the family, I think something’s wrong. Especially when it actually scares people to drive something with something so critical as “STEERING”. The vehicle only has 33000 miles.
The steering on the vehicle became erratic, the steering wheel could be turned several inches without resistance or the car reacting. This happened at speeds from very slow to moderate. We did not operate the vehicle at interstate speeds given this condition. This problem is intermittent and therefore unpredictable. What is not intermittent is a clicking when turning the steering wheel. We understand from an independent servicer that Honda has a service bulletin recall on this vehicle for this problem, but our Honda dealer said it doesn't apply to our specific VIN number. We are confused and a bit surprised that Honda is not more reactive to this safety issue.
I have been receiving road mitigation problem, adaptive crude control problem, brake system warnings on my car, the dealer is taking a look at it and Honda should be held responsible as these are safety features.
I have experienced my honda crv apply its automatic braking as if detects a collision but nothing is in my way. The message will flash on the screen a few seconds before. If someone is not wearing a seatbelt, they will be projected forward. I have noticed it will do it if the sun creates a shadow from a traffic light onto the road and it thinks something is in the way. Most always it is completely random and on moderate speed roadways when the person behind me may not have time to stop.
The Driver's side seat belt would sound and feel like it latched but then when pressure was applied to the seat belt, the belt would unlatch. This happens at least once a day when driving. Having a seatbelt become unlatched while driving is incredibly unsafe and troublesome. I brought the car to the dealer and they confirmed that the seatbelt became unlatched when they tested the phenomenon. I also looked it up on Honda's recall list and it looks like CR-Vs from 2017-2020 have had this problem and many have been recalled. However, it seems as though my vehicle was not part of the recall.
This issue was first noticed July 1 2023 (55,000 miles). On warm or hot days, when steering to the left, the wheel will "stick" when trying to steer back straight. The bit of extra force needed to overcome this stick causes a jerk in the steering movement, which causes a safety issue as it often results in an oversteer. We did attempt to have it addressed during a service appointment, but the service tech did not detect this during the appointment. By late spring 2024, when the weather warmed again, the issue returned and was consistent and much more pronounced. There is no indication through warning lamps, and we have not had the vehicle inspected by police or insurance. This behavior matches what was reported in investigation EA23003, for later year (2023-2025) CR-V models, for which a recall was issued. We would like to see earlier CR-V models added to this investigation and recall.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that on three occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The contact stated that an orange warning light might have been illuminated. The vehicle was driven to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I am writing to express my concern and disappointment regarding persistent electrical issues with my 2018 Honda CR-V (VIN: [XXX] ). My vehicle has recently experienced multiple warning lights turning on simultaneously, including brake, VSA, and TPMS. After inspection, I was informed that the issue may be related to the battery or sensor systems, even though the vehicle has not experienced any incidents or misuse. I would like to emphasize that this is a well-known issue reported by many 2018 CR-V owners, as evidenced in online forums, service bulletins, and consumer complaints. It is extremely frustrating to be responsible for repair costs for what appears to be a design or manufacturing flaw. Additionally, I visited a local Honda dealership for diagnosis, but I was given no explanation regarding the cause of the problem and was simply asked to pay for service. I found this experience to be highly unprofessional and upsetting, especially considering the seriousness of the issue and my loyalty to the brand. Given the potential safety risks and the common nature of this problem, I respectfully request that Honda consider my case for goodwill repair coverage or reimbursement. I am also aware of an open fuel pump recall (Campaign: 24-007:6FE00) on this vehicle, and would like to confirm that any and all necessary service campaigns are addressed. Please let me know how to proceed, or if you require additional documentation. Thank you for your time and understanding. The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40-50 MPH, the vehicle decelerated and stalled. The contact stated that she was able to restart the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the spark plugs, and other unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle decelerated. The contact’s son was able to veer to the side of the roadway and turned off the vehicle. The contact’s son was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle remained at the dealer. The contact stated that several days later she was notified by the dealer that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the steering column became stiff with a clicking noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with power steering rack and electric steering gear failure. The contact was informed that the power steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,300.
The steering has about an inch of slack before it engages, both right and left. It seems many other owners are having the same problem but the VIN isn't included in the steering recall.
When driving on a two lane road with no other cars around and traveling at 45 mph the car emergency brake heads up display light was displayed and braked in an unsafe, unpreventable manner to 10mph before allowing us to continue driving after manually breaking and applying speed again. This is now the third time this has happened this year and it's unsafe.
An issue with my 2018 Honda CRV was diagnosed as requiring the Steering Gearbox to be replaced. Although my CRV has less than 36,000 miles I have owned it for over 3 years so this issue is no longer covered under warranty. After the diagnosis I discovered that this part was included in a safety recall (Honda Service Bulletin 18-103, recall #'s C2N, P2O). Unfortunately, my VIN was not included in this recall even though the model is the same as those involved in the recall and a Honda dealer diagnosed this as the problem with my car. I am asking that my VIN be added to the recall so that I don't have to pay the $3,000 quoted by the dealer to make the replacement that other vehicles are having done at no charge.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving from 30-75 MPH, the check engine warning light, Lane Departure warning light, and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where diagnostic test codes related to the fuel injectors extended were retrieved. The contact stated that unknown sensors were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where diagnostic test codes related to the fuel injectors were retrieved. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, East Coast Honda (8756A US Highway 17 Bypass South, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588), where the same assessment was made; however, the dealer declined to repair the vehicle under the Extended Warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact later became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), which she related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
While I was driving, the vehicle suddenly braked and I did not hit the brake pedal. There was no one in front of me and thankfully, no one behind me. I had 2 other people in the car with me.
Fuel pump stopped working. While driving, I pressed down the gas and car stopped working.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the vehicle occasionally lost motive power. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
My car's fuel pump system quit working without warning or noticed. My car stalled in an intersection and caused serious concern for my safety. Honda has a safety recall for other Honda CRV 2018 vehicles but not my vin number. My car only has 54,000 miles on it and it is very odd that this recall is the same problem I'm having. "Fuel pump inoperability could prevent an engine from starting or stall an engine while driving, increasing the risk of a crash"
The CMBS on my CRV inadvertently activated three times. After the third time I learned how to deactivate the system as I was afraid of having an accident. I also made an appointment with Penske Honda, Carmel, IN to review the issue. 1. I was driving 40 mph when suddenly the BRAKE light came on and the brake suddenly activated, but quickly released and all was well. There were no cars behind me. 2. A few days later I was driving on the interstate with cruise set to 60mph. With no warning the BRAKE light came on with a quick sudden stop/go. Even with a brief stop/go I was lucky there were no cars behind me. Due to the speed the sudden stop/go did put pressure on my seat belt. There we no other issues on my 30 min drive home. 3. A week later I was driving 40mph when the BRAKE light came on and a brief brake/go occurred. There was no car or object in front of me the three times this occurred. Due to my fear of driving the car, I continue to disengage the system each time I drive. I visited Penske Honda who looked over the car and found no issues. They adjusted the camera but were not aware of any issues with CMBS. I looked online and found that there were others that experienced my same issue. I will continue to turn off the CMBS since the dealership was unable to diagnose/fix the issue and I'm afraid of driving in traffic where I might suddenly brake for no reason.
I recently discovered Honda is recalling certain models for this steering issue, starting in 2020. Why are they not recalling my 2018 Honda Cr-v? I too had to replace the rack and pinion steering mechanism as it was unsafe and very hard to steer-SAFETY ISSUE ! This condition developed with 58,568 miles on the vehicle of which I had repaired at my own expense. My total bill from Coggin Honda was $3661.29 which included alignment. I feel this was totally unjust of Honda and not considering the seriousness of their FLAWED steering system to ignore it!
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle made an abrupt stop. The contact was unsure if there were any warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after several minutes the vehicle started operating normally. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there was no recalls for the failure and provided not additional assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. Additionally, the brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
Steering sticks left and right like a magnet is holding it to the left while I constantly over correct. There seems to be a dead spot after I bring the vehicle back to straight. It's dangerous, however after bringing it to a Honda dealer they informed me that they don't see a problem....There is a problem and I disagree, I would not recomend buying a Honda to anyone.
For second time in 9 days, car taken to Krenzen Honda dealer, Duluth, MN as car goes into “limp mode” and all warning lights keep cycling through and beeping. When in limp mode, very unsafe for car to suddenly drop to 10 miles per hour - on the freeway, this would be life threatening! Krenzen told us about 2 weeks ago it now needs fuel injectors. We’re told by dealer over 8000 Hondas from 2017-19 in need of fuel injectors. They said could be 4-6 weeks! We live in Tucson, AZ and need to drive home in less than 3 weeks. This is ridiculous to not only need fuel injectors for a 5 year old car, but to wait for such a long time for these parts! IS THIS GOING TO BE A RECALL SOON??
The rack and pinion steering box was beginning to fail. Vehicle would steering would lock into steering toward the left or right requiring a slight pull back to right the direction. With this pull there was a noticeable clicking sound. This issue was progressively getting worse necessitating a complete replacement of the rack and pinion steering box. The vehicle in question has 43, 700 miles.
All the warning lights come on at random times for all these components: Adaptive Cruise Control Automatic Emergency Braking Blind Spot Warning Forward Collision Warning Lane Departure Warning Lane Keeping Assistance Parking Collision Warning Rear Cross Traffic Warning And the "ding, ding, ding" noise when the door is open also starts dinging. This has kept happening since we changed the battery last year. I have researched this issue on the internet and there are many CRV owners in the same situation. Some taken their vehicle into the dealerships and have paid thousands for "fixes" that don't work. Your agency really needs to look into this. This is an urgent safety issue since we can't have all these warnings going on at any time and when will we know there really is a problem?
Vehicle was stuttering when accelerating, usually when cold. This is unsafe since someone behind me could have run into the rear of my car if they weren't paying attention. I took into dealership and they found errors and had to replace the fuel injectors. Vehicle only had 78556 miles and was no longer covered by warranty.
The brake assist activates randomly when no one is in front of the car. Usually happens at intersections. Today I was slowing down to go through an intersection and the brake assist engaged and my car slammed to a stop. The person behind me almost hit my car. Light was green. I am tired of this happening and no longer feel safe driving this car. This has been happening ever since I got the car
The Honda dealer in Elk Grove, CA repaired my air condition once in 2020 when it was under warranty and then the air condition broke down again just after the warranty ended. I attempted to go to Honda and they said that they are unable to offer any service as it is outside of the warranty period. Each summer, it is impossible to drive this car where I live at and have also heard of others having the same issue.
Steering at any speed is erratic. It has a dead spot and pulls left or right as if a magnet was pulling it causing me to constantly be correcting This happens whether LKAS is turned on or off I have a dealer appointment June 15th
AC Discharge Hose replaced due to leak. Many people reported this same issue on online forums on the same vehicle. This is on a 1.5 L engine. Refrigerant type is R-1234yf. There was a recall on the compressor shaft seal deterioration due to this refrigerant type. Could the same be said for the discharge hose? I have already replaced my vehicles discharge hose. For diagnostics and repairs it cost between 800-1100 dollars depending on the shop due to labor. For the average American this is too expensive and some may choose not to repair the AC system and the heat is not good for families with children. There were no warning lamps the car just stopped cooling.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake assist, rear camera, lane change, and door alarm erroneously activated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but occurred while driving and after starting the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.
The steering wheel jerks while driving. Bring it to get repaired as soon as possibly. Do not have a receipt yet.
A clicking noise and jerking of steering wheel when making turns. Feel uncomfortable and unsure of safety with this happening. This occurs at low speeds like when parking or pulling into or out off the garage, as well as at highway speed. My long time mehanic/service hears and feels it but unsure of the cause and thought maybe there was a Honda recall. No warning lights displayed.
