The steering gearbox on our 2018 Honda CR-V has been malfunctioning for the last two months, causing the steering wheel to creak and pull toward the center whenever making left turns, especially sharp turns. After releasing the steering wheel from a left turn, the steering wheel jerks back to the center position suddenly, affecting the vehicle's direction. Through online research, we discovered that Honda issued a recall bulletin numbered 18-103 to address this issue, but our VIN was not included in that recall. We also found through our research many other 2018 Honda CR-V owners that have experienced the same problem, but their VINs were also not included in the recall. Upon inspection by a service technician at our local dealership, they confirmed that the steering gearbox was faulty and needed replacing, but after submitting a "goodwill request" to have the service provided, we were denied due to the mileage and age of our vehicle. We believe this to be an unfair and unsafe situation that Honda should remedy for the safety of our family.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at 40–65 MPH on the highway, the steering wheel was sticking on the left side. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
All warning lights appearing on the dashboard unexpectedly which then prevents the cruise control and other features from working. This issue comes and goes and makes it unsafe to drive. A new battery was installed but that did not solve the issue and no one has a solution. There are many websites stating this exact same problem. Different years and both CR-V and Pilots.
Both drivers side and passenger sun visors in car slowly started falling and not holding up creating an issue with visibility.
I was driving on the highway with plenty of distance between me and cars in front of me. My brake warnings came up (forward collision warning) when unnecessary, and my car stopped in the middle of the highway without me putting my foot on the brake pedal. It was a strong enough brake to jolt me forward in the car. This almost caused me to be rear-ended as the car behind me had to stop unexpectedly.
Was driving around 57 mph on a 2 lane road with no cars in front or obstacles when the car suddenly flashed the brake warning on the dash board and quickly slowed the car. It only lasted a second or two then I was able to accelerate the car. Luckily there was no cars in front or behind me. It has happened twice before but this time was the most sudden braking.
I was driving at 45mph down a straight two lane road that has a left turn lane in the middle. There were no cars in front of me nor any cars coming toward me in the opposite direction. Also there were no upcoming curves or stop lights/signs. Suddenly my Honda CR-V flashed the BRAKE warning signal on the instrument panel and then proceeded to brake hard on its own. This lasted for about 1-3 seconds. Afterward the car resumed normal operation. Luckily there were no cars behind me either during the event. My right foot was on the accelerator the entire time. My left foot was near the seat and nowhere near the brake pedal. The weather was sunny, temperature about 75 degrees F. The sun was directly overhead as it was near noon. I am the original owner and this is the first time this has happened with this vehicle since purchasing it in 2018.
Had just pulled out of my local hardware store and was going home when the brakes suddenly came on bringing me to a very sudden stop while traveling on a main road. Luckily the car behind me had time to stop. I didn't apply the brakes or the parking brake. I don't know what caused it. No cars were directly ahead of me. After the stop I was able to move again. I pulled off of the road to see if I could figure out what happened. Nothing seemed wrong and I went home without further problems.
Since the summer of 2021, I have experienced numerous instances of the Collision Mitigation Braking System "Brake" warning light coming on for no apparent reason. There has been no one in front of me and no reason for me to brake. This has happened numerous times and at varying (freeway and slow) speeds, but the system did not actually initiate braking. I reported this problem to Honda during a regular service appointment in July of 2021 and it is documented. I have had other discussions with service personnel since then, but I do not have any further documentation. Recently, they tried changing the CMBS settings to make it "less sensitive." This was actually shortly before my most recent incident. On May 19, 2023, the CMBS system actually engaged the brake. Fortunately, I was traveling at a low speed and there was no one behind me. There was no reason for the car to come to an abrupt stop. Honda has suggested previously to come to the service department right after these incidents without turning off the car. I have not been able to do that. I did however notify the service department of this new development but they did not ask to see or test the vehicle. I don't know if they have documented this latest incident. I did research the problem online and found that there have been other reported instances of a problem with the CMBS. I provided some of the articles I found and expressed my (safety) concerns about driving a vehicle that initiates braking for no apparent reason to my local service advisor. He did reach out to a regional representative in Northern California on my behalf. The regional rep had nothing to offer.
Within the last 2 months the car began to run rough. We added fuel injector cleaner to no avail. After some time, the computer system went berserk - every system in the car was informing us that it had a problem (ie lane keep assist, lane departure warning, collision mitigation braking system, vehicle stability assist , electric power steering etc) along with continued rough engine performance. We took the vehicle to a local Honda dealership repair shop and were eventually informed that the fuel injectors were faulty and need to be replaced. We requested that they order a set of injectors for us a month ago and are still waiting delivery of these back-ordered parts A phone call recently to the parts department of another dealer turned up with non-availability there as well The fact that these parts are in such demand along with the continued poor performance of our vehicle suggests that there may be some sort of widespread problem with this model of vehicle The constant alerts about system failures accompanied by warning chimes are a major distraction while driving. If a real problem occurs involving one of these systems, we won’t know about it since they are all “screaming “ at us about their impending failure While bad fuel injectors are not a direct safety hazard, the resulting systems problem can be seen as somewhat hazardous
No accident. Loud Braking noise. Dealership service department has checked 3 times and say they don’t see anything wrong. They tell me my brakes and surrounding parts are fine.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, turned off the vehicle, waited half an hour, and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact also stated that the instrumental panel had become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer and was diagnosed with fuel injector #1 failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. However, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
Just 2 months ago, when walking out to get in my 2018 Honda CRV, I found all 4 windows partway down and the roof window completely open. It has happened twice since then. What is up with this?
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument cluster intermittently went blank for several minutes. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
I received notification of the 2 seat belt recalls on my 2018 Honda CRV. I promptly made an appointment with my local dealership, Honda of Clear Lake in League City, Texas to take for repair. I made arrangements to work from home for the day since I would not have my vehicle for my lengthy commute to work and made arrangements for my neighbor to follow me to the dealership and bring me home so I could leave my car for the day. Upon arrival, I was informed my car would need to remain with them for at least 2 days to complete this safety recall. I cannot be without my vehicle for 2 days and cannot believe it takes that long to make this repair. This is not rebuilding an engine. This safety problem is not my fault or something I did. Honda should be required to complete the repairs in a half day - full day at most. Otherwise, unsafe situations will continue to be on the road since people work and do not have 2 days to be without a car especially in a city with long commutes and no viable public transportation from where I live to where I work. This dealership is a nightmare and should be held accountable for not making recall repairs in a timely manner.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the vehicle went into LIMP Mode while attempting to accelerate. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated during the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road, and the contact waited for a while before continuing to drive. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 35-40 MPH, the brake malfunction message was displayed, and the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
I completed an oil change on Saturday May 13, 2023 with Morehead Honda, Newburgh NY. On May 14, 2023, while operating my 2018 Honda CRV all the lights for the ADAS illuminated on the dash board of the vehicle and continued to cycle through continously. The lights are as follow: hill start problems, collision mitigation problems, brake system problems, power steering problems, VSA problems, steering problems, TPMS problem. Brake hold problems, adaptive cruise problems, electrical brake problems, brake hold system problems, road mitigation problems, emissions system problems and power steering problems I returned the vehicle to Morehead Honda dealership and a diagnostic was performed. The diagnostic results were excessive fluid to injector and excessive air to brake which involves the compressor and the fuel injector. This is a clear manufacturer defect which is a safety issue. I also conducted a query on the NHSTA and there are recalls listed for issue for 2018 Honda CRVs, however my vehicle VIN was not included.
While I was driving on the highway without any cars ahead of me, the emergency braking system engaged for a few seconds. Fortunately there was not a car behind me and I was able to continue driving. I have an upcoming appointment with a Honda dealer to examine the issue. There was no prior warning of a malfunction.
Today, as I was driving my automatic braking system activated without need. There was no obstacle. It was a clear and sunny day. I was driving the speed limit of 50 mph. The brakes activated so hard that if I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt I would’ve been injured. Currently my neck and back do hurt but I did not seek medical attention. This has not happened before and I have owned this vehicle for over 2 years. I have not reported the incident to my dealership yet because it is Sunday and they are not open.
driver seat belt does NOT engage, CANNOT FASTEN.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the cruise control feature was inoperable. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable. Parts distribution disconnect.
Several times, the vehicle will brake without an obstacle in the road. It is extremely scary - at one time, it forced me to react unexpectedly and almost got into an accident. This is scary.
The steering moves left or right unexpectedly. A jerking motion is felt and a clunk noise is heard. The symptoms and offered solution are identical to Honda Service Bulletin 18-103. Supposedly our vehicle (VIN) is not included in the known recall for this safety hazard. We believe they have not identified all 2018 CRV's with this faulty steering box. Neither the Honda dealership nor Honda America have been responsive to this safety issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and making a turn, the steering wheel was sticking. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V158000 (Seat Belts) and 23V158000 (Seat Belts) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the dealer made an appointment with no parts and then rescheduled with one part at a time for approximately 2 months. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
I purchased my Honda vehicle in Canada and legally imported it to the United States. I was contacted by my Canadian dealership and advised that there is a recall related to the seat belts. Honda describes the recall int he following terms: "Due to an improperly manufactured seat belt buckle channel, the driver and front passenger seat belt buckles may fail to latch, or may unlatch unexpectedly. An unlatched seat belt buckle may increase the risk of potential injury in the event of an accident. To resolve this issue, the affected vehicles will have both front seat belt buckles serviced by either replacing thebutton or, in some cases, the replacing the buckle assembly." The Canadian recall number is P27/P28. There is an identical U.S. recall listed on the NHTSA website as "Part 573 Safety Recall Report, 23V-158." The service Department at Sheehy Honda in Alexandria, Virginia told me they could not do the recall and they gave me conflicting information about what I need to do to get the recall work done at their dealership. One week has passed and their Service Manager has not responded to an email I sent seeking information on how to get the recall work done. I don't feel comfortable driving around with this defect, which endangers my family's safety, and I don't think Honda is following through on its obligation to complete the recall work.
At highway speeds with the lane assist off the steering will fight you to return to center after steering on a corner. It feels like the steering could stay locked causing an accident not having full control of the steering. The car starting having issues around 55,000 miles.
Driving on freeway at approx 65 mph when the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) notification flashed on the dash, and the car automatically hard braked on its own, while my foot was on the gas.Only lasted a few seconds but I felt the lag and it resumed back to normal. This is my second experience of this happening since purchasing the car in February of 2022. The first time however, was at a much slower speed (>20mph), and I did not notice the ACC indication beforehand. The vehicle hard braked while in traffic but resumed back to normal seconds after. I believe the brake indicator flashed on the dash the first time , despite being a fair distance behind the vehicle in front of me. The incidents were approximately 1 year apart from each other.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, the steering wheel became stiff without any warning, causing the contact to strike the vehicle parked next to the contact, causing damages to the front end of the contact’s vehicle and damages to the rear end of the other vehicle. The contact shut down the vehicle and then restarted the vehicle and the steering wheel started operating normally. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 25,000.
In February, 2023 all of the warning lights came on my 2018 Honda CRV, including brake failure, lane departure and many more, making me afraid to drive the car. Dealer wants to replace fuel injectors, but none are available! I’m afraid my car is a danger to myself and others on the road, since all the warning lights continue to appear. HELP!!
Turned car on and every warning light and notification came on dash. Notifications on dash tated, Tire Pressure Monitor Problem, Brake System Problem, Brake Hold System Problem, Power Steering System (EPS) Problem, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem, Hill Start Assist Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem,
On April 21, 2023, I was driving on the interstate highway at 70 MPH. The outside air temp was 82 degrees. The inside temp was approximately 72. Without warning, the sunroof exploded. Had the inside shade not been in use, we would have been showered by broken glass while traveling at highway speed. There was no known previous damage to the glass. The vehicle has a current inspection.
All warning lights for ALL systems going off at once while car was being driven and rotating across dash board indicating complete system failure . Car drove well but dealer says fuel injectors are faulty at 62000 miles and unsafe to drive. Car dropped off at dealer 4/23/23- and now 5/11/23. The dealer says no parts available as this is a multi model malfunction across all HONDA cars from multiple years. There is NO eta on when an part may be available and no offer of loaner car.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 20-25 MPH, the vehicle experienced phantom braking with the brake fault message displayed. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,700. The VIN was unavailable.
I was driving In Milwaukee WI at about 5 mph and drover over a metal plate in the road that was covering road construction, there were no obstacles in front of my car but the emergency braking system flashed the brake warning light about 3 times then immediately applied the brakes full force and stopped the car very abruptly - thankfully we a had seat belts on and were going slow. If we had been going faster who know what would have happened. As I said there was nothing in front of the car it just emergency braked for no reason.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the brakes locked up inadvertently. Additionally, the electronic braking system, TPMS, the emission, the AWD system, braking system, brake hose, power steering, the vehicle stability assistance, Fuel Start Assist, Collision Mitigation Braking System, and the Hydro High beam warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, there was smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was sludge in the engine and that the turbo system was blown. The dealer replaced the turbo, rebuilt the engine, and performed an oil change and an engine flush; however, the failure persisted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Schaumburg Honda Automobiles (750 E Golf Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60173), where an oil change and an engine flush were performed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who informed the contact that the timing chain was loose and needed to be replaced. The contact declined the repair. The contact stated he had replaced PCV valve, the camshaft sensor, and the battery himself. Additionally, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to the ECM. The mechanic referred the contact to the dealer for the repair. The vehicle was taken to a third dealer, where the contact was informed that the engine needed to be taken apart. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and several cases were opened. Additionally, the manufacturer referred the contact to the third dealer for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
this is my second statement - my 2018 honda crv has a steering issue that began at about 75,000 miles - currently there is 86,000 miles - honda did a diagnostic test for $175.00 and told me the test showed no error codes - they then informed me the steering rack needed to be replaced at a cost of about $3000.00 but the replacement part is on back order until september 2024 - this crv is my only mode of transportation and i am concerned this steering issue is a danger - i have read that many honda's are having this steering issue but not all are being recalled - shouldn't honda fix this issue on all of their models ? thank you and have a nice day !
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while approaching a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that fuel was found inside the engine. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,600.
I am getting intermittent BRAKING happening on my car, slowing me down while in motion. There is no object in front on me. This is a safety issue!
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that on several occasions, excessive force was required to turn the steering wheel. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
The steering of my car felt as though there was a resistance when driving it. It felt as though there was a force pushing my wheel. It resembled what it felt like if I had lane keep assist on and was trying to maintain the lane, but I did not have that feature on. It did not happen all the time, either. I could drive it one day and not experience anything but the next day, I would. I had it diagnosed by the dealership and they stated the rack and pinion is intermittently seizing and deemed my vehicle unsafe to drive. There is an active recall on my exact year, make, model car but they stated that my vin does not match the active recall list. I was not injured but had it gone out, it could have potentially caused injury. No lights appeared on my dash and I honestly wasn't sure if something was really wrong with my car until I noticed the recall and decided to take it and have it looked at. I knew something didn't feel right but I had no idea my entire rack and pinion was bad and my car was unsafe to drive. I probably would not have taken it in had I not noticed the active recall.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated after starting the vehicle, a knocking noise was heard coming from the engine compartment. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there was fuel dilution in the engine oil and that the rod bearings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the rear center seat belt was stuck in the retracted position. The contact stated that he received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V158000 (Seat Belts). The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for the recall repair. The contact then informed the technician of the failure and was informed that the failure was not included in the recall and that the failure was not covered under recall or warranty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the specific failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while sitting at a stop light, another motorist hit her vehicle on the front passenger side. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact nor the other driver sustained any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was driven to an independent body shop where it was repaired. Since the accident, the contact stated that several warning lights would flash on the instrument panel either upon start of the vehicle or while driving at various speeds, . The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where a diagnostic showed that the fuel injector needed to be replaced. Prior to owning the vehicle, the contact was informed that a recall(recall unknown) was performed on the vehicle that was related to the fuel injector. A software was performed to repair the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 73900.
My 2018 CRV will intermittently have malfunctioning in which all warning indicators will go on flashing. The car seems to drive ok when this happens. Once in a while when this occurs, the car will not start, then eventually it will start again. I have taken to the Honda dealer several times regarding this issue. It was recommended to first fix the Power unit, which I have done around March 2023. In July 2023, the car started up again with all warning lights, once again the car seemed to run ok. I took it in again to Honda and was told that despite the issue, the car can been driven per usual and if I start to have any mechanical issues to bring it in. On September 9th 2023 the warning lights when on again and the car was not starting up. a few more attempts to start vehicle and it started and was running fine. Then the same day after the car was parked for about a half hr, the car would not start. There are numerous issues reported by other owners of the Honda CRVs with this issue. I believe this is a safety concern and Honda needs to create a recall like they did for the Honda pilots. Another issue I have is the AC takes a long time to cool and is not very cold. I live in a climate where the temperatures reach upper 90s and low 100s for 4 months out of the year. Repairs had been made soon after i purchased the vehicle, but the AC never really worked well.
Over a period of time the electronic steering and rack & pinion became stiff and resistant to turns and lane changes. I called the Honda dealer and they confirmed that Honda has a partial recall for this issue but my car vin number was not part of the recall. I requested a call from their service department several times for a quote to repair it but they never returned my call. I had an independent mechanic check it and order the parts from Honda. He successfully repaired it. I also had to get the car alignment done after the repair. Everything has been working as it should after the repair. I spent $2407.50 for the steering repair and $105.00 for the alignment for a total of $2512.50.
Windshield washer nozzle freezes just below 32, resulting in limited view. Weather was clear, at or just below 32F. Started with driver sider and later on both side froze, unable to see on freeway as other cars in front sprays snow melting water.
Driving approximately 35mph at 6:30 pm while still daylight outside, the automatic braking system engaged for no reason, with the “brake” warning appearing on the dash. No other cars around thank goodness, but the unexpected, sudden braking was scary and I’m grateful no car was behind me, as I’m sure it could have resulted in a collision. I have not taken the car in as of yet to have the breaking system checked. I’m very concerned this could happen again and if it were to occur on a highway or bridge I don’t want to think of the possible outcome. Others with 2018 CR-V’s have reported similar incidents and it seems that Honda needs to address this matter now. I purchased this car in May 2022 with 33,000 miles on it, and I did so, due to the excellent reputation of Honda vehicles. They need live up to that reputation.
First, the forward camera failed and was replaced at cost of $1800. There were no problems with the original camera until it failed. The replacement camera has since three times initiated an emergency stop at a particular road location where there is no hazard.
