TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT WHEN THE DIPSTICK WAS CHECK, THE OIL LEVEL WAS ABOVE THE HIGH MARK, THE OIL HAD A GASOLINE ODOR, AND THE OIL WAS DIRTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HONDA OF MURFREESBORO (929 JOHN R RICE BLVD, MURFREESBORO, TN 37129, (615) 896-3480) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ODOR WAS NORMAL FOR VEHICLES WITH A TURBOCHARGED ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,697.
WE SMELL GASOLINE IN THE ENGINE OIL, WHICH WE DISCOVERED IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH CR-V 1.5L TURBO ENGINES. THE SALES PERSONNEL DID NOT OWN UP TO THE KNOWN TURBO PROBLEM WHEN WE ASKED ABOUT TURBO ENGINE RELIABILITY BEFORE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THIS DEFECT RUINS ENGINE PARTS AND COULD CAUSE COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AT HIGH SPEEDS, WHICH MAY CAUSE ACCIDENTS WITH BODILY INJURY.
STRONG ODER OF GAS, GAS IN OIL. OIL LEVEL IS HIGH. WHEN ITS BELOW 40F IT TAKES A VERY LONG TIME FOR THE ENGINE TO WARM TO 180F, PER MY SCAN GAUGE 2. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE A SAFETY PROBLEM WHEN ITS SNOWING AND I'M IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE CAR WILL NOT WARM ENOUGH TO DEFROST FRONT WINDSHIELD
I CHECKED MY OIL AFTER READING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE HAVING AN ISSUE WITH GASOLINE IN THE CRANKCASE. THE OIL LEVEL WAS OVER THE FILL MARK BY A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT AND THERE WAS A DISTINCT SMELL OF GASOLINE COMING FROM THE OIL FILLER CAP. THE CAR WAS TWO WEEKS OLD AND HAD 225 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT SMELL GASOLINE AND THE OIL LEVEL LOOKED GOOD. TOTAL LIES. THEY TOLD ME I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THERE WAS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM BUT DID NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH IT.
BOUGHT 2018 HONDA CR-V EXL ONLY 2 WEEKS AGO. IT HAS 500 MILES ON IT. I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I FOUND THAT THE OIL IS OVER FULL AND VERY DILUTED WITH GASOLINE. I WORRY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE ENGINE GETS HOT WILL THE GAS IGNITE. IS THIS GOING TO CAUSE EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE ENGINE DUE TO LACK OF LUBRICATION? HONDA NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE. PEOPLE ARE PAYING HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THESE VEHICLES.
AS OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT, A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR FILLS THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT LIVE IN A VERY COLD ENVIRONMENT.
PURCHASED NEW 2018 HONDA CR-V AWD DECEMBER 2017 FROM DEALER IN ORLANDO FL. WITHIN FIRST FEW MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP HAD MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHERE "GAS/FUEL" SMELL FILLED THE CABIN OF CAR WHILE DRIVING. IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION BY A FRIEND (LATE SUMMER) THAT THERE APPEARS TO BE ISSUE WITH THE 1.5 L EARTHDREAMS HONDA ENGINE. AREA OF ISSUE IS OIL DILUTION BY FUEL "LEAKING" INTO IT & MIXING. I THEN BEGAN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE AND WAS QUITE SURPRISED TO FIND THAT HONDA HAD ALREADY RECALLED A HUGE NUMBER OF VEHICLES IN CHINA WITH THIS OIL DILUTION ISSUE ON THIS SPECIFIC ENGINE. WHEN I CALLED MY HONDA DEALER TO ASK ABOUT ISSUE/REPAIR, I WAS TOLD BY SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUE OF THIS TYPE AND THERE WERE NO ACTIVE RECALLS/TSBS REGARDING ISSUE. WOW? THAT'S WHEN MY CONCERN LEVEL ROSE, AS ON THE DEALER LEVEL THERE SEEMS TO BE COMPLETE DENIAL/ADMITTANCE OF ANY PROBLEM. OTHER HONDA OWNERS OF VEHICLES WITH THIS ENGINE HAVE EXPERIENCED "GAS ODOR" IN CABIN, POOR PERFORMANCE AND EVEN STALLING OF ENGINE WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT HAD A STALLING ISSUE (YET) - BUT I DRIVE VEHICLE FREQUENTLY IN MODERATE /HEAVY TRAFFIC AREAS AND CAN'T IMAGINE THE DANGER THAT COULD RESULT FROM MY CAR "STALLING" WHILE I'M DRIVING(OR MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER).ANOTHER "CHECK" TO VERIFY IF MY CAR HAS THIS ISSUE IS TO EXAMINE OIL LEVEL ON DIPSTICK. WHEN MY OIL LEVEL IS CHECKED, THE LEVEL TENDS TO READ HIGH (EVEN ABOVE FULL LINE ON DIPSTICK) AND DIPSTICK HAS STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. NOT GOOD AS IT SIGNALS FUEL IS MAKING IT'S WAY INTO MY ENGINE OIL. ONCE FUEL MIXES WITH THE OIL IT WILL BREAK DOWN THE VISCOSITY AND ENGINE WILL "WEAR OUR PREMATURELY" OR LEAD TO FAILURE. AS OF TODAY (11/14/18) MY CAR IS NOT STALLING OUT (ABOUT 15K MILES ON IT) BUT MY CONCERN FOR SAFETY IS RISING AS HONDA SEEMS TO BE DRAGGING THEIR FEET REGARDING ADMITTING AND FIXING THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE.
GASOLINE ENTERING OIL PAN. AFTER BEING INFORMED OF THIS PROBLEM BY A WELL KNOW PUBLICATION, I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL ON MY CAR AND FOUND IT ELEVATED. AFTER SMELLING THE OIL ON THE DIPSTICK, I SMELLED GASOLINE IN THE OIL.
THE ENGINE OIL SMELLS STRONGLY OF GASOLINE AND THE EXHAUST SMELLS OF BURNED GASOLINE. SO FAR, THERE HAS BEEN NO STALLING OF THE ENGINE NOR ENGINE FAILURE. HOWEVER, I'M AWARE OF THE RECENT SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THIS ENGINE PROBLEM REGARDING THE 2017 AND 2018 HONDA CR-V MODELS.
THE ENGINE OIL HAS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. SO FAR, THERE HAS BEEN NO LOSS OR ENGINE POWER OR ENGINE FAILURE. THE EXHAUST ALSO HAD THE SMELL OF BURNING GASOLINE.
FUEL IS CONTAMINATING THE OIL CAUSING THE LEVEL TO RAISE 1/4 TO 1/2 INCH ABOVE FULL WHEN CHECKING OIL LEVEL WITH DIP STICK. CHANGING OIL AT 2,000 MILES FROM LAST OIL CHANGE. POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE WHICH COULD LEAD TO BEING STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY.
2018 HONDA CRV, 8000 MILES, FUEL IS ENTERING THE CRANKCASE CREATING AN OVERFULL CONDITION. CONCERNS ARE NOXIOUS FUMES IN THE CABIN AND EXTREME EARLY WEAR OF ALL LUBRICATED ENGINE COMPONENTS. DEALER INFORMS ME THAT THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION. I OPENED A CASE WITH HONDA AND WAS TOLD THE SAME . I INTEND TO SPEAK WITH THE DEALERSHIP OWNER AND ASK IF I MIGHT COME ONCE EACH WEEK AND ADD GASOLINE TO HIS OIL OVER THE NEXT YEAR.
VEHICLE IS SHOWING AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF GASOLINE ENTERING INTO THE OIL THAT LUBRICATES THE ENGINE. HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT THIS ISSUE AT NUMEROUS SITES AND TOOK IT TO DEALER TODAY WHO VERIFIED THAT THE OIL LEVEL HAS RISEN ABOVE THE MAX MARK ON THE DIPSTICK AND IT DOES SMELL OF GASOLINE. I HAVE HAD NO OPERATIONAL ISSUES THUS FAR BUT KNOW THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR INTERNAL ENGINE PARTS. I HAVE APPROX. 4200 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AT THIS POINT. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM AND DOCUMENTED IT ON THE WORK ORDER. THEY ALSO CHANGED THE OIL AT THIS TIME. THEY INDICATED HONDA IS EXPECTING TO RELEASE SOME SORT OF SOLUTION IN MID NOV AND I WOULD BE CONTACTED BY EITHER THE DEALER OR HONDA DIRECT.
MY 2018 CR-V SUFFERS FROM THE DREADED [OIL DILUTION ISSUE] WHERE GASOLINE GETS INTO THE OIL RAISING THE LEVEL ABOVE THE FULL MARK. THE RESULT IS A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL, SOMETIMES IN THE CABIN BUT ALWAYS WHEN YOU PULL THE DIPSTICK TO CHECK THE OIL. THE OIL LEVEL IS ALWAYS CONSIDERABLY HIGHER THAN THE FULL MARK. I PRESENTED THIS ISSUE TO MY DEALER, AND THEY CONFIRMED THE SMELL OF GAS IN THE OIL, THE HIGH LEVEL AND THE FACT THAT MANY 2017-18 CRV'S SUFFER FROM THIS SAME ISSUE. THEIR UNACCEPTABLE SOLUTION WAS TO CHANGE THE OIL AND MAKE LONGER TRIPS TO TRY TO BURN OFF THE GASOLINE IN THE OIL. THEY ALSO SAID THAT HONDA WOULD BE ISSUING A STATEMENT IN THE FALL ABOUT FIXING THE ISSUE. FIRST A BIT ABOUT THE ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF CRV OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM UNEXPECTEDLY STALLING AND LOSING POWER WHILE IN MOTION. SOME HAVE SUFFERED ACCIDENTS. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A VEHICLE YOU'D LIKE TO PUT YOUR FAMILY IN? ALSO, DILUTED MOTOR OIL HAS TO HAVE LONG TERM DAMAGING EFFECTS ON THE ENGINE. I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT THE LONG TERM VALUE OF A CAR THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE GREAT RESALE VALUE - THAT'S WHY I BOUGHT IT. SO HONDA ROLLS OUT THEIR "FIX", AND I NOTICE THAT THEY'RE ONLY GOING TO ADDRESS WHAT THEY CONSIDER "COLD WEATHER STATES". THEY ALSO PLAN TO ROLL THESE "COULD WEATHER STATE" FIXES OUT OVER A MULTIPLE MONTH SCHEDULE. NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL. WHAT ABOUT MY CAR HONDA. I WOULD THINK THAT HONDA WOULD TREAT ALL OF THEIR CUSTOMERS THE SAME AND WOULD WANT TO FIX AS MANY AFFLICTED VEHICLES AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUES. HONDA HAS A VERY LOYAL OWNER-BASE. I BETCHA HOW THEY HANDLE THIS WILL AFFECT PEOPLE'S DECISIONS IN THE FUTURE. I KNOW IT WILL AFFECT MINE.
GASOLINE IS CONTAMINATING AND DILUTING THE ENGINE OIL. OIL TURNED BLACK AND DILUTED BY THE GASOLINE AND HAD TO BE CHANGED WITH LESS THAN 1500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. CONCERNED THAT THE GASOLINE DILUTED OIL IS POSING A FIRE AND SAFETY RISK.
PURCHASED VEHICLE FROM FOX HONDA IN GRAND RAPIDS, MI ON 8/14/18. NOTICED GASOLINE SMELL ON DIPSTICK AFTER 1000 MILES. CHECKED AGAIN AFTER 2000 MILES AND THE GASOLINE SMELL IS STRONGER AND THE DIPSTICK REGISTERS WELL PAST FULL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TODAY 10/23/18 WITH A MESSAGE "SYSTEMS EMISSION PROBLEM." EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA.
I SMELLED GAS INSIDE THE CABIN DRIVING FOR SHORT DISTANCE 2X IN 4 DAYS. THIS IS FIRST DRIVE OF THE DAY AND/OR REALLY SHORT DISTANCES. CHECKED OIL AND IT HAD A SMALL HINT OF GAS SMELL IN IT TOO. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND HAVE NOTHING FURTHER TO GO ON THERE. THEY SAID TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT. OIL LEVEL WAS WITHIN LIMIT. ONLY HAVE 500 MILES ON IT. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REALLY COLD OUTSIDE (AROUND LOW TO MID 30S F). 2ND TIME AROUND 45ISH.
ODOR OF GASOLINE IN THE ENGING OIL. WHEN CHECKING OIL LEVEL (DIPSTICK) OIL IS OVERFILLED AND SMELLS OF GASOLINE
REAR SEAT SEAT BELTS ARE REVERSED. THE DRIVERS REAR AND MIDDLE SEAT BELT RECEIVERS ARE REVERSED. SAFETY ISSUE.
REPEATED LOSS OF POWER / STALL. CHECKED FLUIDS AND OIL DIPSTICK LEVEL IS HIGH AND SMELLS STRONGLY OF GASOLINE.
TO MY REGRET, I JUST PURCHASED THE 2018 CRV EX 2WD YESTERDAY, 10/19/2018 BRAND NEW WITH 255 MILES ON IT. BASED ON THE COMPLAINTS ON THE TURBO CHARGED 1.5 L 190 HP ENGINE HAVING THE POSSIBILITY GAS IN THE OIL TANK, I REGRET THIS MAY BE TRUE. I FOUND THIS ON INFORMATION OUT ON CONSUMER REPORTS THE NIGHT BEFORE AND GREW ANXIOUS. THIS CAR WAS STATIONARY IN MY GARAGE. THIS MORNING BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE, I DECIDED TO CHECK THE OIL. I REMOVED THE DIPSTICK, AND IT HAD A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE PRESENT. I HAVE HAD MANY CARS AND ALL BUT ONE NOT BY HONDA. NEVER SMELLED GASOLINE ON ANY OIL DIPSTICK IN MY LIFE. BUT I NEVER HAD A TURBO ENGINE EITHER. AT THIS POINT, I DO NOT KNOW HOW UNSAFE THIS CONDITION IN THE DAYS THAT FOLLOW. BUT I BELIEVE THIS DEFINITELY NOT GOOD.
FUEL IS MIXING WITH THE OIL AND THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHILE DRIVING. FREQUENT STALLS DURING COLD WEATHER AND LITTLE TO NO HEAT IN PASSENGER CHAMBER
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH NO OTHER CARS IN FRONT OF OR BESIDE ME WHEN SUDDENLY I HARD A LOUD CRASH AND SAW IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR DEBRIS COMING OFF OF MY CAR. I PULLED OVER AND SAW THAT MY SUNROOF HAD SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. THANKFULLY I HAD THE LIGHTSHADE CLOSED SO NO ONE IN THE VEHICLE WAS INJURED. I'M AN ALSO GRATEFUL THERE WAS NOT A VEHICLE BEHIND MINE TO CATCH THE DEBRIS AND POSSIBLY INJURE ADDITIONAL PERSONS.
STRONG GAS SMELL IN PASSENGER CABIN. GAS MIXING WITH ENGINE OIL. CONSEQUENTLY ENGINE OIL LEVELS RISING VERY HIGH.
PURCHASED A HONDA CRV 2018 IN JULY. IN OCTOBER, THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, COLLISION MITIGATION, AND BRAKE SYSTEM WARNINGS/ERRORS WERE FLASHING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS WOULD CAUSE CONSTANT BEEPING BECAUSE OF THE WARNINGS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IN MY OPINION. DEALER AT END OF OCTOBER REPLACED THE CAMERA UNIT IN THE WINDSHIELD. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE SO FAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT DETECTED AN ABNORMAL ODOR IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE ODOR WAS ALSO EVIDENT OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PAGE HONDA (LOCATED AT 1819 S TELEGRAPH RD, BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI 48302, (248) 333-3200) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS FUEL CONTAMINATION IN THE ENGINE OIL. AN OIL CHANGE WAS COMPLETED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE MANUFACTURER ATTEMPTED, BUT FAILED TWICE IN PROVIDING A REMEDY FOR SIMILAR FAILURES WITH SIMILAR VEHICLES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,834.
1.5L TURBO ENGINE- CHANGED OIL AT 5200 MILES TECH SAID "VERY DIRTY". AT 7200 MILES/6 MONTHS- ALMOST STALLED IN TRAFFIC 3 TIMES. ALL THREE TIMES I HAD TO BRAKE SUDDENLY. SMELL OF GAS IN THE CAB ONCE. I CHECKED THE OIL, AFTER 2000 MILES SINCE LAST CHANGED- OIL WAS BLACK AND SMELLED LIKE GAS. DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP- THEY HAVE HAD IT OVER A WEEK. THEY SEEM ELUSIVE IN UPDATES. TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG ONE MINUTE, IT'S OK THE OIL WAS THAT DIRTY, BUT THEN THEY "UPDATED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM" AND CHANGED THE OIL. AGAIN THEY SAID- NOTHING IS WRONG, BUT THEY WANT TO KEEP IT ONE MORE NIGHT TO TEST DRIVE IT AND HONDA HAS A SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM COMING SOON.
ENGINE OIL BEING DILUTED WITH GASOLINE. STRONG FUEL SMELL AT THE DIPSTICK WHEN CHECKING OIL LEVEL. OIL LEVEL RISING. SEEN A FEW WEEKS AFTER HAVING THE OIL CHANGED AT THE DEALER. INTERNET RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, SO I HAVE ALSO NOTIFIED HONDA. HONDA NEEDS TO BE ENCOURAGED TO DEVELOP A FIX QUICKLY, AS THEIR RECOMMENDED SOLUTION OF MORE FREQUENT OIL CHANGES IN THE 500 TO 1000 MILE RANGE IS UNACCEPTABLE. MY CONCERN IS FUEL IN THE OIL WILL SHORTEN ENGINE LIFE.
GASOLINE IS ENTERING ENGINE OIL RESULTING IN OVER-FILL SITUATION AND SMELL OF GAS. AFTER READING CONSUMER REPORTS ARTICLE, I CHECKED MY OIL LEVEL AND SMELL OF OIL ON MY 20018 HONDA CRV WITH ABOUT 11,615 MILES. OIL LEVEL WAS OVER "FULL" LEVEL OF ORANGE DIPSTICK AND SMELLED OF RAW GAS. TOOK CAR INTO LOCAL DEALER FOR OIL INSPECTION AND CHANGE. THEY CONFIRMED THAT "VEH WAS HALF QT OVER FULL AND SMELLED LIKE FUEL". THEY CONTACTED HONDA TECHLINE FOR CORRECTION AND RECEIVED THIS REPLY: "CONTACTED TECHLINE WAS TOLD COLD START SHORT TRIP IS NORMAL ADVISE CUSTOMER TO TAKE LONGER TRIPS, AND THAT HONDA IS LOOKING INTO IT". IN OTHER WORDS, THEY BLAMED THE CUSTOMER'S DRIVING HABITS EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE (SEE CRV RECALL IN CHINA). OIL WAS CHANGED IN SPRING AND WE WERE IN RURAL AREA OVER THE SUMMER SO COLD START AND SHORT TRIPS DOES NOT APPLY. DEALER SAID FIX MIGHT BE AVAILABLE MID NOVEMBER. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT LONG TERM DAMAGE TO ENGINE BY EXCESSIVE GAS DILUTION OF ENGINE OIL. IF THERE IS NO PROBLEM, WHY ARE THEY WORKING ON A FIX?
OIL LEVEL IS 3/8 TO 1/2" OVER THE FULL MARK ON DIP STICK. CHECKED IT SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE TAKING IT TO DEALER. OIL WAS ALSO DISCOLORED. WENT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL HONDA'S AND THIS IS NOT NORMAL.
TOOK VEHICLE TO TIRE DISCOUNTERS FOR FIRST OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THE OIL LEVEL WAS HIGH AND THEY COULD SMELL GAS IN THE OIL. THEY INFORMED US THIS WAS A PROBLEM THAT HONDA WAS AWARE OF AND THEY RECOMMENDED THAT WE REPORT IT TO NHTSA.
NEW VEHICLE CHECKED OIL APPROACHING 4500 MILES IN PREPARATION FOR FIRST OIL CHANGE. OIL WAS BLACK, RUNNY, SMELLED OF GASOLINE ON DIPSTICK AND OVER 1/2 INCH ABOVE FULL MARK ON DIPSTICK. TOOK CAR IN TO DEALER SERVICE AND THEY SAID MUST HAVE BEEN OVERFILLED AT FACTORY. CALLED 2 DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AND THEY SAID WE KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT NO INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECTIVE ACTION GIVEN FROM HONDA IN US. CHINA AND JAPAN ANNOUNCED SAFETY RECALLS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. WINTER IS COMING AND CONCERNED ABOUT COLD WEATHER RELIABILITY OF MOTOR.
MY ENGINE OIL IS REGISTERING HIGH ON THE DIPSTICK AND HAS A VERY STRONG GASOLINE SMELL. I GOOGLED THESE SYMPTOMS AND WAS SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE EARTH DREAMS 1.5 TURBO ENGINE, THAT HONDA HAS KNOWN ABOUT, AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX!!!!!!! I DIDN'T SPEND $31,000 ON A BRAND NEW CAR WITH A DEFECTIVE ENGINE THAT WON'T LAST.

THE HONDA CR-V HAS A OPTIONAL BACKUP SENSOR OPTION WHICH DOES NOT PERFORM TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. IT DOES NOT PROVIDES NECESSARY ADEQUATE WARNING TO PREVENT BACKING UP INTO A VEHICLE OR PERSON. THE BACK UP SENSOR HAS WARNING BUZZER THAT CAN NOT BE HEARD OVER NORMAL CONVERSATION OR A RADIO. THE SYSTEM I WAS TOLD HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED FOR SEVERAL YEARS LET HONDA IS STILL INSTALLING THIS INADEQUATE WARNING SYSTEM. CHECK IT OUT FOR YOUR SELF. I RAISE THIS SAFELY ISSUE WITH MY HONDA DEALER AND HONDA EXECUTIVE OFFICER IN CHARGE OF ENGINEERING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTOPARK HONDA (LOCATED AT 3630 OLD RALEIGH RD, CARY, NC 27511, (919) 467-4747) FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN ENGINE OIL DILUTION WITH FUEL DUE TO A SOFTWARE SETTING. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THERE WOULD BE A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO REPAIR THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE REMEDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500.
STARTED NOTICING ENGINE KNOCKING IN THE FIRST 500 MILES. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 2,509 MILES MOSTLY FREEWAY DRIVING. PURCHASED APRIL 2018. FIRST DROVE IT IN APRIL 409 MILES ROUND TRIP, AND THEN AGAIN IN MAY, SAME MILEAGE AND AGAIN IN AUGUST. ONLY STARTED DRIVING IT DAILY TO AND FROM WORK 16 MILES ROUND TRIP IN SEPTEMBER AND IT HAD 1600 MILES. I THEN DROVE IT ON OCTOBER 400 MILES ROUND TRIP AND NOW I SMELL GASOLINE IN CAR AND IT STALLED ON ME WHILE TRYING TO MAKE LEFT TURN IN INTERSECTION. ALSO LIGHTS AROUND MIRROR DO NOT STAY ON. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD BE SMELLING GAS. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO.
THE CAR HAS SEVERAL ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE NEW SAFETY FEATURES. ON 3 OCCASIONS, THE CAR HAS "HARD BRAKED" BY ITSELF FOR NO APPARENT REASON (NO CARS NEARBY). ALSO, THE CAR "BEEPS" INTERMITTENTLY WHEN IT SHOULDN'T. THIS INDICATES A PROBLEM ALSO WITH SAFETY FEATURES. THE AUTO WALK-AWAY LOCK FEATURE DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. THE SETTINGS ARE FOR CAR TO AUTO LOCK & IT DOES SOMETIMES & SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT! THE MIRRORS LIGHT UP WARNING THAT THERE IS A CAR IN THE LANE NEXT TO ME & NOT TO ENTER LANE, IT DOES THIS WHEN I'M NOT CHANGING LANES-DEFECTIVE ALSO.
MY CAR HAS STALLED TWICE IMMEDIATELY ON COLD START. THIS IS AN ISSUE AS BOTH TIMES IT RESULTED IN UNEXPECTED ROLLBACK, AS MY GARAGE IS ON A SLOPE, AND IT SEEMED LIKE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STILL "LOCKED" LIKE IN ENGINE OFF MODE, SO I ROLLED BACK DESPITE PRESSING THE PEDAL. ABOUT MID SEPTEMBER I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH IT SHUTTING OFF ALONG WITH THE LCD SCREEN BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL THAT SHOWS HOW FAST I'M GOING. DEALERSHIP AWARE BUT HAD ISSUES WITH GETTING LOANER SO UNABLE TO DROP OFF FOR REPAIR. THE SCREEN WOULD FLICKER AND SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING OR "AUDIO ISN'T RESPONDING" ERROR SHOWS UP AND BOTH LCD SCREENS GO OUT WHILE DRIVING. I WOULD START THE CAR AND WOULD RECEIVE AN ERROR MESSAGE LIKE "ANTI THEFT SYSTEM: THIS SYSTEM HAS LOST POWER. PRESS THE POWER KEY FOR MORE THAN TWO SECONDS TO ENABLE THE SYSTEM" ... PLEASE FIX YOUR [XXX]! I WAS GIVEN A WARNING IN CONROE BECAUSE I WAS SPEEDING AND UNAWARE OF MY SPEED DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A DAILY PROBLEM FOR ME. THIS IS AN ADDENDUM TO COMPLAINT NUMBER 11140475. BESIDES A MAINTENANCE ISSUE OF THE OIL DILUTION BY GASOLINE LEAKAGE INTO THE CRANKCASE, AS REPORTED IN THAT COMPLAINT, THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE GASOLINE MIXING WITH THE ENGINE OIL ON THE 1.5 LITER TURBO. THERE ARE RAW GASOLINE FUMES IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING IN CITY TRAFFIC. THIS HAS CAUSED HEADACHES AND NAUSEA TO CHILDREN IN THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT AND PROBLEMS FOR THE DRIVER AS WELL. THE ONLY SOURCE OF THE GAS FUMES APPEARS TO BE THE GAS LEAKAGE INTO THE ENGINE.

I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES OVER CONCERN WITH GASOLINE MIXING WITH THE ENGINE OIL. ON MY FIRST VISIT, THEY ASKED ME TO PAY FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY WOULD MARK THE LEVEL OF OIL. THE DEALER VERIFIED THE CHANGED OIL LEVEL WAS EXACTLY AT THE FULL LINE ON THE DIPSTICK. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY CHECKED AND VERIFIED THAT THE OIL LEVEL HAD INCREASED BY 1/2" AND SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT HONDA TECH SUPPORT. TWO DAYS LATER THEY SENT ME A MESSAGE SAYING THIS WAS PERFECTLY NORMAL. I HAVE NOTICED DECREASED ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT STALLING AND SIGNIFICANT ENGINE DAMAGE.
MY CONCERN OF REPORTS REGARDING GAS IN OIL OF 2017-2018 CR-V 1.5 TURBO. REPORTS OF STALLING, ENGINE DAMAGE, GIVE ME LITTLE COMFORT THAT IT ONLY HAPPENS ON SHORT TRIPS AND COLD CLIMATES WHEN WE LIVE IN IOWA. THIS IS MY SECOND HONDA AND BOUGHT AGAIN BECAUSE OF ITS PREVIOUS RELIABILITY. WE HAVE 381 MILES ON THIS CAR.(232 AT TIME OF PURCHASE ON 10-11-18. NO WARNING WAS MADE OF THIS POSSIBLE PROBLEM BEFORE PURCHASE. WE ARE "COUNTING ON" HONDA TAKING RESPONSIBILITY AND CORRECTING.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND REGAIN NORMAL FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HELENA HONDA (3377 US HIGHWAY 12, EAST HELENA, MONTANA 59601, (877) 962-2573). THE DEALER INSPECTED THE ENGINE AREA FOR RODENTS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUGHT IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK IF THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,980.
