WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED AT LUTHER BROOKDALE HONDA (6800 BROOKLYN BLVD, BROOKLYN CENTER, MN 55429, (612) 424-7830), THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED A FUEL ODOR ON THE OIL DIPSTICK. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO CHANGE THE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL NEAR THE AREA OF THE CRANK CASE. THERE WAS ALSO AN INTERNAL LEAK THAT CAUSED FUEL TO ENTER THE OIL. THE DEALER (CHAPMAN HONDA TUCSON, 4426 E 22ND ST, TUCSON, AZ 85711, (520) 445-4024) CHANGED THE OIL, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,820.
GAS DILUTION WITH ENGINE OIL CAUSING RAISE OF ENGINE OIL LEVEL OVER THE MAXIMUM LIMIT OF DIP STICK. ALSO STRONG FUEL SMELL IS COMING FROM THE DIP STICK WHEN PULL OVER. SO FAR NO FUEL SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN. DROVE ONLY 800MILES. TALKED TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE ISSUE ON OCT 13 THEY SAID IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR CR V. THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE HONDA MANUFACTURER'S FIX WHICH SUPPOSE TO COME ON THIS NOVEMBER. NO ENGINE DIAGNOSE AND OIL CHANGE DONE.
A NEWLY BOUGHT 2018 HONDA CRV SEEMS TO HAVE A PROBLEM. THE OIL DIPSTICK SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT. NOT MANY MILES ON IT AND THOSE HAVE BEEN SHORT DISTANCE DRIVING.
I PURCHASED MY FIRST HONDA CR-B 2018 AT THE END OF SEPT. 2018 AND TODAY IS NOV 4, 2018 AND THIS CAR HAS BEEN OUT OF ORDER FOR @4 WEEKS. THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM, LANE DEPARTURE SYSTEM, VEHICLE DISTANT CONTROL SYSTEM, AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS ARE ALL LIT UP AND FLASHING. NONE OF THE SYSTEMS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO AID IN DRIVING SAFETY IS WORKING. THE SYSTEMS STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING. TWO TRIPS TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. I WILL MAKE A THIRD TRIP ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY.
OIL CONTAMINATION
RESULTS OF FUEL LEAKING INTO ENGINE OIL .HAD ENGINE OIL ANALYZED AT 3370 MILES. IT HAD FUEL DILUTION OF >8%. ACCEPTABLE IS NO HIGHER THAN 2.5%. SLIGHT GAS SMELL IN CABIN. DIPSTICK SMELLED OF GAS AND OIL LEVEL WAS HIGHER THAN FULL LEVEL.THIS WILL DAMAGE ENGINE. I WAS STOPPED AT RAILROAD CROSSING AND HEARD A BOOM AND CAR SHOOK. UNABLE TO GET STATEMENT FROM HONDA OR DEALER IF CAR SAFE TO DRIVE.
HONDA CRV 2018 TOURING. GAS LEAKING INTO ENGINE OIL. HAD ENGINE OIL ANALYZED AT 3370 MILES AND THE FUEL DILUTION WAS >8%. THIS WILL CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE TO ENGINE. SLIGHT SMELL OF GAS IN CABIN. STRONG SMELL OF GAS AT DIPSTICK. OIL ON DIPSTICK SHOWED OVER FILL LINE. WHEN STOPPED AT RAILROAD CROSSING HEARD LOUD BOOM THEN CAR SHOOK. WAITING ON RESPONSE FROM HONDA AND HONDA DEALER SERVICE.
I WAS IN A COLLUSION WITH THE 2018 CR-V AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE COLLISION OCCURRED. I WAS GETTING READY TO TRAVEL THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WHEN A SEMI TRUCK STRUCK THE CR-V ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE NEAR THE TIRE. THE RATE OF SPEED AND IMPACT SHOULD HAVE CAUSED THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY.
will automatically brake at some point on highway, I notice at some part of the highway exact point the brake will automatically trigger.
2018 CRV-EXL PURCHASED ON 9/3/18, OUR 5TH HONDA (3RD CRV), CURRENTLY AT 620 MILES. WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN IMPRESSED WITH THE RELIABILITY OF HONDA VEHICLES, UNTIL RECENTLY. LAST FRIDAY (10/8/18), CNN NEWS REPORTED ON A CONSUMER REPORTS (CR) ARTICLE REGARDING THE CRV 2018 ENGINE PROBLEMS, INVOLVING FUEL MIXING W/ ENGINE OIL. APPARENTLY, THERE'S AN ISSUE REGARDING GAS MIXING W/ OIL IN 2017 & 2018 HONDA CRVS WITH 1.5-LITER ENGINES, POSSIBLY CAUSING STALLING AND ENGINE DAMAGE. NUMEROUS CR AND NHTSA COMPLAINTS INVOLVED STALLING, LOSS OF POWER, AND SMELL OF GAS IN THE PASSENGER CABIN. HONDA IS WORKING ON A FIX NEXT MONTH. OWNERS ARE ADVISED TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL ON THEIR CRVS AS IT WILL BE HIGHER AND LESS VISCOUS IF MIXED W/ GAS. WE CHECKED OUR CRV'S OIL LAST NIGHT AND NOTICED THE STRONG SMELL OF GAS ON THE DIPSTICK. BROUGHT THE CRV THIS MORNING TO OUR HONDA DEALERSHIP. SERVICE REP REPORTED THAT THEIR TEST REVEALED NO GAS MIXED W/ THE OIL AND THAT THE SMELL IS FROM A SPECIAL OIL ADDITIVE THAT HONDA USES IN NEW VEHICLES. WE WERE ADVISED TO BRING THE CRV BACK FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT 1500 MILES. REP WAS NOT AWARE OF THE CR & NHTSA COMPLAINTS ON GAS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE OIL, UNTIL WE TOLD HIM. WE AGREED TO BRING THE CRV BACK FOR THE OIL CHANGE. CALLED HONDA TO CONFIRM THE FIX IN NOVEMBER AND MENTIONED OUR VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP. CUSTOMER REP INSISTED THAT HONDA DOES NOT PUT ANY OIL ADDITIVE IN THE NEW CRVS AND THAT I WAS MISS-INFORMED BY THE SERVICE REP. I WAS REFERRED TO THE CRV MANUAL ON PAGE 572, STATING THAT OIL ADDITIVES MAY ADVERSELY AFFECT THE ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND DURABILITY. I WAS ASSURED THAT HONDA ENGINEERS ARE WORKING ON THE FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. I WAS DIRECTED TO TAKE MY CRV TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR A 2ND OPINION AND OIL ANALYSIS. WE'RE IN THE 'WAIT AND SEE' MODE UNTIL THE FIX IS DEPLOYED NEXT MONTH.
GASOLINE MIXING WITH ENGINE OIL. THIS IS AN ADDITION TO COMPLAINT # 11138878 AND 11138881. ON OCTOBER 8TH, 2018, AFTER WE COMPLAINED ABOUT OIL OVERFULL AND GASOLINE SMELL IN OIL, OUR HONDA DEALER CHANGED THE OIL IN OUR CR-V AND SAID TO "KEEP AN EYE ON IT." THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND ONLY ONE OTHER COMPLAINT LIKE THIS, AND THE PROBLEM HAD GONE AWAY AFTER ONE OIL CHANGE. ON 10/8/2018, AFTER HAVING THE OIL CHANGED IN THE MORNING, WE DROVE 130 MILES, ALL HIGHWAY MILES, WITH THE CR-V. THE NEXT MORNING WE CHECKED THE OIL. ALREADY IT WAS OVERFULL, AND ALREADY IT SMELLED STRONGLY OF GASOLINE. THE TEMPERATURES IN MICHIGAN THAT DAY (AND OTHERS AROUND IT) WERE ACTUALLY WARM, WITH A HIGH OF 80 DEGREES F. ON 10/9/18 WE BOUGHT A QUART OF HONDA 0W-20 OIL AT THE DEALER TO COMPARE THE SMELL. THE HONDA OIL SMELLS LIKE NOTHING ON A PAPER TOWEL. OIL FROM THE DIPSTICK OF MY CR-V REEKS OF GASOLINE. PLEASE NOTE NOT LOW TEMPERATURES AND NOT SHORT TRIP, THIS WAS WARM TEMPS AND HIGHWAY MILES ONLY, AND THE GASOLINE IN ENGINE OIL PROBLEM HAS RE-OCCURRED AFTER ONLY 130 MILES AND ONE DAY.
GASOLINE PRESENT IN OIL. SMELL IN CABIN OF CAR. DIP STICK SMELLS OF GAS AND IS INDICATING OVER FILLED.
GASOLINE IN LUBRICATION OIL IN 1.5 LITER TURBO CHARGED ENGINE. VEHICLE STATIONARY IN GARAGE. 6,000 MILES ON CAR. CHECKED OIL LEVEL WITH ENGINE COMPLETELY COLD. LEVEL ON DIP STICK WAS HALF AGAIN AS HIGH AS THE "HIGH" LEVEL MARK. FLUID ON DIP STICK SMELLED STRONGLY OF GASOLINE. DID THIS IN RESPONSE TO RECENT ARTICLES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. HAVE CALLED DEALER WHO SAID 'BRING THE CAR IN AND WE WILL CHECK IT AND THEN DECIDE IF ANYTHING NEEDS TO BE DONE". I WILL REPORT RESULTS OF UPCOMING MEETING WITH DEALER. THIS SITUATION CANNOT BE GOOD FOR THE CAR.
ENGINE OIL LEVEL IS INCREASING AND HAS AN ODOR OF GASOLINE. OIL VISCOSITY IS VERY THIN. VEHICLE IS ONLY SIX MONTHS OLD WITH JUST OVER 5000 MILES AFTER A RECENT OIL CHANGE BY THE DEALER, WITHIN 2 WEEKS THE OIL LEVEL HAD EXCEEDED THE "FULL" INDICATOR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT AND AGREED THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE REPAIR DOCUMENT SAYS "THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT YET, HONDA WILL COME UP WITH SOMETHING". I HAVE GREAT CONCERNS FOR ENGINE DAMAGE AND SAFETY OF OPERATING THE VEHICLE
FUEL HAS LEAKED INTO THE OIL. THE OIL SMELLS LIKE FUEL AND IS A LEAST A QUART HIGH ON THE DIPSTICK. SMELL OF FUEL IN INTERIOR. WARNING LIGHTS COME ON
I HEARD ABOUT GASOLINE GETTING INTO ENGINE OIL ON SOME 2017 AND 2018 HONDA CR-VS WITH 1.5 LITER TURBO ENGINES, SO STARTED MONITORING MINE. I NOTED A GASOLINE ODOR ON THE OIL DIPSTICK, AND THE OIL LEVEL WAS SLOWLY INCREASING ABOVE THE FULL MARK. I TOOK THE CAR INTO MY HONDA DEALER ON 10/8/18 AND ASKED IF THEY HAD HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT. SHOWED THE SERVICE MANAGER MY CAR, AND HE STATED THAT THE GASOLINE ODOR IN THE OIL AND THE RISING OIL LEVEL WERE NOT NORMAL. I ALSO TOLD HIM I SOMETIMES SMELL A GASOLINE ODOR IN THE CABIN FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER STARTING THE CAR. HE RECOMMENDED AN IMMEDIATE OIL CHANGE, WHICH WAS DONE THAT SAME DAY. HE SAID HE WOULD NOTIFY HONDA ABOUT MY PROBLEM AND WOULD ADVISE ME WHEN A FIX IS AVAILABLE. SO FAR I HAVE HAD NO DRIVABILITY ISSUES.
BOUGHT CAR IN MAY, 2018 AT SMART HONDA, IOWA. AT 1200 MILES , DISCOVERED GAS IN MY OIL. IT SMELLED OF GAS WHEN THE HEATER WAS ON. I HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT DEALER AND KEPT THE OLD OIL SAMPLE FOR REFERENCE. CONTACTED MANUF 'S CSR ON 10/17 AND REP SAID, WE WILL CHANGE THE OIL WHEN YOU WANT BUT THERE IS NO FIX YET AND NOTHING ON THE HORIZON. I CHECKED THE OIL WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND DRIVE ONLY SHORT DISTANCES WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AS I FEAR STALLING AND SEIZING OF THE ENGINE OCCURS UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. THE OLD OIL HAS THE VISCOSITY OF ALCOHOL AND IS BLACK. I AM GETTING POOR (26 MPG) MILEAGE AND THE OIL STICK WAS "OVER-TOPPED." I'M CONCERNED THAT THE ENGINE RINGS AND CYLINDERS ARE EXPERIENCING PREMATURE WEAR UNDER THESE CONDITIONS, WHICH IS ONLY COMMON SENSE. I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE THE CAR BACK FOR A REFUND OR PURCHASE ANOTHER NEW CAR WITHOUT THIS ENGINE. I HAVE READ ABOUT MANY OTHERS EXPERIENCING STALLING AT DANGEROUS AND INAPPROPRIATE TIMES. I WOULD NOT SELL THIS CAR TO ANYONE UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES OR TRADE IT IN TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE DEALER SO THE VEHICLE IS BASICALLY WORTHLESS. EVEN WITH A "FIX" I WOULD BE CHANGING MY OIL EVERY 500 TO 1,000 MILES OUT OF FEAR OF STALLING ON THE HIGHWAY. NEEDLESS TO SAY I'M DEVASTATED THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN TO MY BRAND NEW CAR. I TEND TO KEEP CARS 10 YEARS. I FEEL I WILL LOSE A LOT OF MONEY AND TIME BECAUSE OF THIS LEMON. HONDA (MANUF) HAS NOT BEEN VERY HELPFUL TO ME. HONDA HAS STOPPED SELLING THIS ENGINE FOR 2019 BUT CONTINUES TO SELL 2018'S. THEY SOLD ONE TO ME WHEN THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BACK IN JAN 2018 ACCORDING TO CONSUMER REPORTS. THIS ENGINE DEFECT HAS PREVENTED ME FROM ENJOYING NORMAL LIFE. I CAN'T TAKE LONG TRIPS OR DO THE THINGS I NORMALLY DO. I'M A RETIRED WIDOWER AGE 64 AND THIS IS MY ONLY CAR. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP. READ ARTICLE REGARDING GAS IN OIL ISSUE. CHECKED MY OIL THE NEXT MORNING AND FOUND IT TO BE OVERFILLED WITH THE DIPSTICK SMELLING LIKE GAS. CALLED HONDA - CREATED A CASE AND TOOK CAR TO DEALER FOR A CHECKUP. THEY DID A COMPLIMENTARY OIL CHANGE, SAID THE DISPSTICK SMELLED LIKE EXHAUST AND TOLD ME THERE SHOULD BE A FIX IN NOVEMBER PER HONDA. JUST READ ABOUT THE PROPOSED FIX AND FOUND THAT THEY ARE ONLY DOING THIS IN COLD WEATHER STATES. I HAVE HGAD MY CAR FOR 9 MONTHS AND HAVE LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON IT. I ONLY USE IT FOR SHORT TRIPS WHICH IS WHY I BELIEVE I MAY HAVE THIS ISSUE. CALLED HONDA AGAIN TODAY TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO ABOUT PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE IN TEXAS AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. THINKING THEY NEED A PUSH TO DO THE RIGHT THING HERE (PERHAPS AN OFFICIAL RECALL)?
WHEN CHECKING THE OIL DIPSTICK WITH A 1.5L TURBO ENGINE, I NOTICED THE OIL SMELLED OF GASOLINE AND AND IS NOT THE CONSISTENCY OF ENGINE OIL. I DID THIS FIRST AFTER THE CAR SAT IN THE GARAGE OVERNIGHT AND AFTER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 25 MINUTES 2X IN AN ATTEMPT TO 'BURN OFF' THE GASOLINE WITH THE END RESULT BEING THE SAME.
OIL MIXING WITH GASOLINE-- ADDITION TO COMPLAINT # 11138878 -- PLEASE NOTE THAT WE BOUGHT THE CR-V ON 9/15/2017 AND IT HAD ABOUT 60 MILES ON IT WHEN WE TOOK DELIVERY--THAT WAS 3 WEEKS AGO-- THE REMAINING MILES UP TO THE CURRENT MILEAGE OF 2100 HAVE BEEN ALMOST ALL HIGHWAY MILES, BEING NUMEROUS TRIPS OF APPROXIMATELY 60-80 MILES. OUR CR-V IS IN MICHIGAN BUT IT IS EARLY FALL AND TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN BETWEEN 55 DEGREES AND 80 DEGREES F. SO IT IS NOT COLD WEATHER AND IT IS NOT SHORT TRIPS. OUR OIL IS OVERFULL BY ABOUT 3/4 OF A QUART AND IT SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE. IT IS DISHEARTENING BECAUSE WE ASKED THE SALESMAN ABOUT THE ENGINE BEFORE BUYING AND HE TOLD US NO PROBLEMS. BUT AFTER WE BOUGHT HE SAID "CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 5000 MILES." BY THE WAY AN OIL CHANGE IS GOING TO BE $60+ EACH TIME BECAUSE OF SYNTHETIC OIL.
THE ENGINE OIL IS OVERFULL AND GASOLINE SEEMS TO BE MIXING WITH THE OIL. THE OIL IS READING ON THE METAL PART OF THE DIPSTICK, WELL ABOVE THE NORMAL RANGE THAT IS INDICATED ON THE PLASTIC END OF THE DIPSTICK. PROBABLY 3/4 OF A QUART OVERFULL. THE OIL SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE. OUR CR-V IS 3 WEEKS OLD WITH 2000 MILES ON IT. ORIGINAL OIL. WE CHECKED THE OIL WHILE THE ENGINE WAS COLD, IN GARAGE (FLAT) AND HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN ABOUT 18 HOURS.
THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW WITH LESS THAN 1000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS PARKED IN MY CARPORT ON OCTOBER 7, 2018 AND WHEN WE STARTED TO CHURCH WE DISCOVERED THAT THE TAILGATE GLASS WAS SHATTERED AND HAD PARTIALLY FALLEN OUT.
I PURCHASED THIS 2018 CR-V AWD IN JANUARY 2018. NOW AS OF OCTOBER 2018, AFTER 10 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP WE ARE EXPERIENCING STRONG SMELLS OF FUEL INSIDE THE CABIN EVERYTIME WE DRIVE ON A COLD DAY. THE SYMPTOMS ARE IN LINE WITH THE OCTOBER 2018 CONSUMER REPORTS ARTICLE ON THIS KNOWN ISSUE. I CALLED MY DEALER ON OCTOBER 15, 2018 AND THEY HAVE NOTED THAT HONDA KNOWS OF THIS ISSUE AND DOES NOT HAVE A FIX. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A CONCERN FOR A $30K+ VEHICLE AND THAT MYSELF AND MY YOUNG CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE EXPOSED TO THE SMELL OF FUEL EVERYTIME WE DRIVE THE CR-V.
WHEN I PULLED OUT THE DIPSTICK TO CHECK MY ENGINE OIL YOU COULD SMELL GASOLINE ON IT. THERE IS GAS MIXING IN WITH THE OIL. MY VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I CHECKED IT. TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY HAD ME STAND WITH THEM WHILE HE CHECKED AND YOU COULD SMELL IT THEN ALSO. THEY CHANGED THE OIL AND SUGGESTED IT BE CHANGED EVERY 5,000 MILES INSTEAD OF THE CALLED FOR 7,500 MILES, UNTIL HONDA RELEASES A FIX (SUPPOSEDLY MID NOVEMBER). THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT HONDA WOULD NOT COVER THE EXTRA OIL CHANGES. MY CAR WAS AT THEIR FACILITY OCTOBER 8 AND 9, 2018. I WAS TOLD TO CHECK THE OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES AND IF I SEE THE LEVEL ABOVE THE NORMAL READING TO CONTACT THEM IMMEDIATELY, OR IF I SEE MY ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE EVEN AFTER THE FIX IS IN PLACE. I TOLD BOTH AMERICAN HONDA AND THE DEALER THAT I HAVE A TRIP PLANNED IN EARLY NOVEMBER AND I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ANY LONG DISTANCE, MY CONCERNS WERE WITH IT STALLING OR JUST STOPPING.
STARTING TO DO THE GAS DILUTION IN THE OIL. OIL HAS A VERY STRONG SMELL OF GAS.
STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE ON OIL DIPSTICK (REPEATED THIS THREE TIMES AND GOT THE SAME RESULT EACH TIME). I WAS PROMPTED TO CHECK THIS AFTER READING A CONSUMERS REPORT ALERT ABOUT THE OWNERS OF 2017 AND 2018 CR-V'S REPORTING A PROBLEM WITH GASOLINE LEAKING INTO THE OIL SYSTEM.
CAR STALLS WHEN GOING UP PARKING RAMP, CAR DIES AT INTERSECTION, CAR DOES NOT SENCE OBJECTS WHEN IN REVERSE, A BLUE LINE APPEARS WHEN RAINING AND I REVERSE OBSTRUCTION VIEW, ELECTRONICS FREEZE AND UNABLE TO USE TOUCH SCREEN...USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN RAINING CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. BRAKES FAILED (PEDAL FROZE) IN REVERSE. SALESMAN SAID TO LET IT HAPPEN SEVERAL MORE TIMES BEFORE MAKING A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE CAR HAS BEEN A PROBLEM EVER SINCE I GOT IT EARLIER THIS YEAR...THERE IS ONLY 4,000 MILES ON IT AND SO FAR, THEY CHANGED THE BATTERY...EXPLANATION I WAS GIVEN IS THAT HONDA HAS BAD BATTERIES. THIS AFTER CHANGING OIL ONE WEEK PRIOR AND SERVICE REPORT INDICATED GOOD BATTERY. ONE WEEK AFTER SERVICING, THE CAR DIED AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT HONDA SAID IT WAS ALL DUE TO A BAD BATTERY. BRAKES FAILED DUE TO BAD BATTERY???? STILL HAVING PROBLEMS, CAR IS STALLING, PANEL FREEZES, SENSORS DON'T WORK...SALESMAN SAID NO LOANERS AVAILABLE AND IF YOU WANTED A LOANER WHEN YOU SERVICE CAR, SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A LEXUS OR BMW. THIS AFTER I DESCRIBED ALL THE PROBLEMS. REALLY UNHAPPY WITH THIS CAR. I BELIEVE IT'S A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. .BRAKES FAILED, PANEL FREEZES, CAR STALLS...HELP!!!!! NOTE THIS HAPPENED AS RECENTLY AS 10/5/18 BUT REALLY IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I'VE HAD THIS CAR. I HAD IT TOWED ONCE WHEN A LIGHT FLASHED, "BRAKE FAILURE" AND I WAS UNABLE TO START THE CAR. THE BATTERY WAS CHANGED - THIS WAS IN AUGUST OF 2018.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM LOCAL SHOPPING CENTER A STRONG SMELL OF GAS CAME IN TO THE PASSENGER CABIN. IT IS A NEW HONDA CR-V WITH 475 MILES AT THE TIME. WHEN I GOT HOME, I CHECKED THE OILED, IT SMELLED OF GAS.
AT AROUND 7200 MILES I CHECKED THE OIL AND FOUND IT TO BE ABOVE THE FULL LINE. THE OIL WAS VERY THIN AND HAD THE DISTINCT SMELL OF GAS. AFTER SHORT DRIVES AT LOWER SPEEDS, THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT SMELLS OF GAS. I DON'T SMELL GAS IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHEN TRAVELING LONG DISTANCES AT HIGH SPEEDS.
ON OR ABOUT OCTOBER 5TH, AFTER READING CONSUMER REPORTS ARTICLE ABOUT FUEL IN THE ENGINE OIL I WENT AND SMELLED MY 2018 HONDA CR-V'S AWD EX OIL DIP STICK AND SMELLED A VERY STRONG ODER OF FUEL. ON MONDAY OCT. 8TH I CALLED MY HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED TO SCHEDULE SERVICE FOR A CHECK OF THE ISSUE. ON TUESDAY OCT 9TH I BROUGHT MY CR-V IN FOR SCHEDULED SERVICE CHECK, THE FOLLOWING IS THE SUMMARY OFF THE CUSTOMER'S COPY OF THE INVOICE. "CUSTOMER STATES THERE IS A FUEL SMELL MIXED WITH OIL STATES DIPSTICK SMELL LIKE FUEL - CHECK AND ADVISE ADVISED CUSTOMER THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND HONDA HAS YET TO COME UP WITH A COUNTER MEASURE FOR ISSUE AT THIS TIME ADVISED CUSTOMER HE WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN FIX IS AVAILABLE." I WILL REPEAT "THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE AND HONDA HAS YET TO COME UP WITH COUNTER MEASURE FOR ISSUE" I WAS VERBALLY ADVISED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS REPORTED TO HONDA AS HAVING THE "KNOWN ISSUE", I WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT THIS ISSUE HONDA BELIEVES IS RELATED TO COLDER CLIMATES. I TAKE THAT TO MEAN HONDA IS AWARE EVERY CR-V WITH THE 1.5 LITER TURBO ENGINE (DREAM ENGINE) HAS THIS ISSUE BUT IT ONLY MANIFESTS ITSELF IN COLDER CLIMATES. ALSO INTERESTING IS HONDA IS WAITING TO SHIP THE 2019 MODELS UNTIL FIX IS AVAILABLE, BUT NOT TAKING 2018 MODELS OFF THE MARKET BECAUSE THAT WOULD MEAN HONDA IS RECALLING THE VEHICLE.

GASOLINE SMELL IN PASSENGER CABIN WHEN DRIVING CAR. GAS SOMEHOW LEAKS INTO ENGINE CRANKCASE AND DILUTES OIL AND CAUSES OIL LEVEL TO BE OVERFILLED. THIS IS A CONTINUING ISSUE, NOT JUST A SINGLE OCCURRENCE.
[ POSS. GAS IN OIL ] HAVE BEEN SEEING OIL LEVEL RISING AFTER FIRST OIL CHANGE AT 7100 MILES. OCT.15. AT 9100 LEVEL WAS APPROX. 3/8 OF AN INCH ABOVE THE HIGH MARK ON DIPSTICK. TOOK CAR TO JEFF WYLER HONDA, AND TALKED TO SERVICE MANAGER WHO STATED THAT THERE MAY BE A FIX COMING BUT AS OF NOW NOTHING. TOLD ME TO WATCH OIL LEVEL FOR MAYBE ANOTHER 1000 MILES. ON NOV.17 OIL LEVEL WAS ALMOST UP 1 INCH ABOVE HIGH MARK ON DIPSTICK. NOV. 19 ,TOOK TO DEALER AND HAD OIL CHANGED EARLY ( 3000 ) MILES . DEALER STATED OIL WAS UP ABOUT 1/2 QT. I HAVE A PICTURE OF DIPSTICK ON IPAD BUT NOT SURE HOW TO UPLOAD IT.
WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, THE ENGINE OF OUR 2018 HONDA CR-V (1.5 L TURBO) SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SMOKE BEGAN POURING OUT OF THE EXHAUST, THIS HAPPENED DURING RUSH HOUR ON A BUSY PORTLAND, OREGON, STREET ON A DARK AND RAINY OCTOBER EVENING. THANKFULLY, THE DRIVER OF THE CR-V MANAGED TO GET OFF THE STREET AND ROLL INTO A GAS STATION WITHOUT GETTING REAR-ENDED. THE CR-V WAS TOWED TO A HONDA DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT, WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS "OIL LEVEL ABOVE SPEC." RISING OIL LEVEL IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN 2017-18 HONDA CR-VS, CAUSED BY DILUTION OF CRANKCASE OIL WITH UNBURNED GASOLINE DUE TO AN ENGINE DESIGN FLAW WELL KNOWN TO HONDA. DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH AN ENGINE THAT COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME/PLACE IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE, AND THE AFFECTED HONDA VEHICLES SHOULD IMMEDIATELY BE RECALLED IN THE U.S. THEY ALREADY BEEN RECALLED IN CHINA!

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE SHOULD BE REPLACED TO ALLEVIATE THE FUEL ODOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOR BECAME MORE PREVALENT IN THE CABIN AFTER THE OIL CHANGE WAS COMPLETED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 09039894. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

THE BACK SEATBELTS CROSS, MAKING IT VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE MIDDLE SEAT. THE BACK DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER BELT HAS TO CROSS OVER THE MIDDLE BELT IN ORDER TO BUCKLE. THOSE PRESENTS A HUGE HAZARD. HONDA HAS OFFERED NO FIX.

WHEN TURNING LEFT ONTO 4-LANE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED UNEXPECTED SEVERE HESITATION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER ASKING FOR DIAGNOSIS, AND ANY ECU OR CVT SOFTWARE UPDATES. ON 10/4/2018 THE DEALER "COULD NOT REPLICATE" AND REPORTED SOFTWARE IS UP TO DATE. SEE ATTACHED INVOICE. ON 10/5/18 I READ THE CONSUMER'S UNION REPORT REGARDING ENGINE OIL DILUTION ON THIS VEHICLE. WHILE THE FILL LEVEL ON MY DIPSTICK IS ~1/8TH INCH ABOVE FULL, NO GASOLINE SMELL FROM THE DIPSTICK OR INTERIOR HAS OCCURRED TO DATE.

THERE IS A STRONG GAS SMELL IN THE CABIN AND AROUND THE CAR. THE SMELL IS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN IDLING AND AFTER PARKING. DURATION OF THE TRIP DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A FACTOR, NOR THE STREET TYPE.

THE FUNCTION ON THE DRIVING SAFETY SYSTEMS FOR ANTI BRAKE AND ANTI COLLISION ALSO FUNCTION ERRATICALLY. LOSING CRITICAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CAR WHILE THE CAR IS STILL OPERATING. I'M HAVING TWO ISSUES WITH MY CR-V 1) ENGINE OIL LEVEL IS SHOWING MORE THAN THE HIGHER LIMIT BECAUSE OF ENGINE OIL DILUTION. 2) GASOLINE SMELL IN THE CABIN. I CONTACTED HONDA ON THESE ISSUES BUT THEY SAID MY VEHICLE DOESN'T HAVE ANY RECALL NOTICE AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.
THE ENGINE OIL IS BEING DILUTED WITH GASOLINE DUE TO A FAULTY ENGINE DESIGN BY HONDA. WE FIRST NOTICED A STRONG GAS ODOR IN THE CABIN IN OCTOBER 2018. WE BOUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER IN NOV 2018, THEY NOTED THE PROBLEM AND DID AN OIL CHANGE. HONDA RELEASED TSB 18-114 IN DEC 2018 TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. I BROUGHT MY CR-V TO THE DEALER ON 01/03/2019 AND THEY APPLIED THE FIX PER TSB 18-114. HOWEVER 3 WEEKS LATER, I NOTICED GASOLINE STILL DILUTING THE ENGINE OIL. I BOUGHT THE CAR BACK AND THEY DID AN OIL CHANGE ON 01/30/2019 (FOR FREE) AND ADVISED TO COME BACK IN 1,000 MILES TO CHECK THE OIL AGAIN. I AM AFRAID HONDA HAS NO REAL FIX FOR THIS ISSUE AND THIS CONSTANT DILUTION WITH LEAD TO LONG TERM ENGINE DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE OTHER SIDE EFFECTS LIKE STALLING.
HONDA'S SENSING SYSTEM RANDOMLY DISPLAYS INVALID WARNING MESSAGES. THIS IS THE RADAR/CAMERA SYSTEM THAT MONITORS CARS SPEED, BRAKING, DISTANCES, CRUISE CONTROL, ETC. THIS IS A RANDOM ISSUE THAT OCCURS WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (45 TO 65MPH). WARNING LIGHTS COME ON STATING PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES, SPEED CONTROLS, ETC. THE MAIN SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT SYSTEM TELLS YOU THAT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR BRAKES, AND YOU HAVE NO WAY OF KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE OR NOT. YOU ARE FORCED TO PULL OVER IN TRAFFIC AND UNDERSTAND IF THERE IS A PROBLEM OR NOT. I UNDERSTAND THAT IF IT IS SNOWING, HEAVY RAIN, HEAVY DUST, OR THE SENSORS ARE BLOCKED IN ANY WAY, A WARNING LIGHT WILL COME ON. THE SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT THE WARNINGS COME ON RANDOMLY ON A SUNNY OR CLOUDY DRY DAY WHERE THERE SHOULD BE NOTHING THAT SETS THE SENSORS OFF. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, YOU MUST STOP THE CAR, PLACE IT IN PARK AND THEN THE ALARMS CLEAR. THIS SYSTEM IS NOT RELIABLE AND CAN NOT BE TRUSTED, PLUS HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE REPAIRED BY THE DEALER, AND PER HONDA INFORMATION, COULD RANDOMLY STOP THE CAR WHEN THERE IS NOT REAL PROBLEM (I.E. SET THE BRAKES AS I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR NO REASON). FALSE WARNING LIGHTS DISTRACT THE DRIVER AND COULD LEAD TO A COLLISION WHILE DRIVING OR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TRYING TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS TRULY A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. SHOULD SYSTEM STOP THE CAR FOR NO REASON, IT COULD CAUSE A COLLISION. THIS CONTINUES TO OCCUR WITH THIS VEHICLE.
