Rear windshield suddenly cracked and completely shattered.
On [XXX] I was driving on the [XXX] to San Diego when I heard a loud boom and then my rear window on the drivers side had a hole in it. It was raining and I was using the rear window defroster. I immediately turned around and drove back home and took my car to the Honda dealership. When they opened the rear door and shut it a large portion of the glass fell out along with some plastic parts of the window panel. They said nothing could be done until after the Holiday. After the holiday they talked to Honda and Honda agreed to replace the window. The window part is on back order and was expected to be shipped on Jan 12; however, as of today it is still not shipped and listed as back ordered. They did not have a loaner car available for me so I was forced to rent a vehicle twice during this time until one became available on Jan 16. I told the Honda dealer that this has been happening and there is a class action lawsuit in Pennsylvania and they told me they were totally unaware of this problem existing in Honda vehicles. They were surprised when Honda agreed to pay for it. Honda needs to issue a recall and make sure that all the owners and dealerships are aware of this problem. On Dec 30th I was sitting in my car l, engine running, wipers and defroster on. I hear a loud pop and my rear windshield shattered There was a large hole in the upper left and the glass all around the edges shattered. The rear wiper remained on even though I turned it off
in rear windshield, loud popping noise then glass shattered
Steering sticks, which has to be overcome causing the steering wheel to jerk resulting in over-correction, especially at highway speeds (with and without LKAS activated). Steering does not feel centered.
The rear window shattered out of nowhere, while the car was parked. I fear that if this happened while driving or with backseat passengers, injury could have resulted.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that after her husband remotely started the vehicle, he heard a popping sound and then discovered that the rear windshield had shattered. There was no impact on the rear windshield that could have caused the rear windshield to shatter. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.
The rear window shattered while the vehicle was stopped at a red light. We contacted our local Honda dealer and were told they know nothing of the problem. But we have found dozens of articles describing our same incident and that Honda has acknowledged an issue. We had no choice but to use our insurance to get the window replaced as we are in a very cold and wet climate in the Pacific Northwest. I also took the vehicle in for the safety recall, but according to the NHTSA, it's still outstanding. I took it in on 1/16/24.
Car was parked in grocery store parking lot. Started the car and turned on the rear defrost. Heard a loud noise and all of a sudden the rear window imploded. There was no contact with anything and the car has not been in a collision
USED MY REAR DEFOSTER FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS MORNING, AFTER ABOUT 10-15 MINS, REAR WINDOW SHATTERED! I HAVE PICTURES BUT CANNOT UPLOAD THEM
Was driving off from drive thru window and o hear a loud bang, pop and shatter. I look into rear view mirror to find my rear mirror busted! It was one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me. I called dealership and they didn’t even want anything to do with me. I got it fixed on my own.
BACK WINDOW SHATTERED FOR NO REASON. THE REAR DEFROST TURNED OFF AND THEN THE GLASS SHATTERED.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the rear defogger was activated and within 3 minutes, the rear windshield exploded. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Safelite Auto Glass and repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
I had gently shut my car door and the back windshield exploded. Glass went everywhere, and if someone was in my back seat or standing behind my car, they would’ve been cut. My car was not even on. Very very disappointing on Hondas part as I know 2 other people who have the same car and have had the same problem happen.
Rear windshield shattered/ defective
The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V782000 (Seat Belts) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH with rear defroster activated, the contact heard a popping sound and saw that the rear window had shattered prior to falling inside the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
Rear windshield spontaneously burst, creating a hole on the driver’s side area followed by complete splintering and combustion. Had anyone been in the backseat, they could have been injured by glass. Also, it burst while we were driving, startling us and causing panic will in motion. There was no indication of impending destruction. Police were contacted as we tried to determine the cause. There was no external reason (rock, crash, etc.) that caused the damage.
The back glass disintegrated without any indication of impact from a foreign object.
Steering wheel gets sticky/jerky when going on interstate now. Sometimes I need to over correct for it to unstick, which could be a huge safety risk
The rear window of my one year old 2023 HrV suddenly shattered, thankfully while vehicle was parked. No impact to glass or reasoning, I filed an incident report with police out of concern, they had never seen anything like it but stated it was not due to any object impact. This happened right on Christmas weekend, leaving me without a safe car to drive which ruined some of plans and dealership was unable to assist but associate did mention she’s seen another customer with same issue and there are many similar instances online. I could’ve been driving or had my boy in the backseat when this happened. There seems to be some issue with the pressure points and placement of the window, frightening this can happen again. No warning lights triggered for this particular scenario. Please issue recall.
My back windshield shatter while sitting at a red light out of no where.
The vehicle steering is sticking. The power steering rack is sticking when turning the wheel in either direction. Safety is compromised because steering is not easy. The dealer confirmed this problem and recommended replacement of the electric power steering rack after they found the same issue.no warning lamps. The dealer said part is on backorder until April and indicated I should take the car home, which I declined. They provided a loaner car after I insisted the car was unsafe.
Rear glass window shattered while driving. No debris hit it, basically it exploded.
On 12/21/23, I went out to my secure garage to my 2023 Honda HRV and found that the back window had completely shattered. After further investigation, I did not find any obvious external reason for this incident. I had driven the car on 12/20/23, which was a rainy day and may have activated the rear wiper and/or rear defogger. But to my knowledge, there was no impact of any kind to the window. The component that failed was the rear window. No one was hurt; however, this could've been a safety issue if it happened on the road. There was no warning prior to the incident. The vehicle was purchased on 11/26/22 and was last serviced on 10/30/23, where no problems were noted. I called Honda, thinking this may be a product defect. They confirmed that it wasn't and that it was not covered by their warranty. I am going through my insurance company and am waiting for a window which is on back order, with no arrival date known. Drove about 2 minutes down down the road and the back window just shattered randomly.
It was a cold morning in Georgia. I warmed up my car and waited for the ice to melt like I always do. This morning, the ice melted like it normally does and I drove home. Once I got home, I climbed out of my car and heard my rear windshield shatter
My car was parked at parking lot while I bought groceries after I went back into my car since I put the groceries on the passenger side of me I closed my door. Then I heard a loud noise of glass breaking and I turned around my rear window was shattered and nothing hit my window nor someone broke into it since as I mentioned it was fine before I went in and when I walked passed my rear window to get into my car then it randomly shattered. This is super concerning especially hearing this didnt just happen to me. Honda needs to do something asap because Honda is not living up to their standard as they say they do.
The rear window just shattered while my car was parked. I had went to go get groceries and loaded it into my car. Then bam the window just shattered.. this wasnt like someone hit the window or an object. The window shattered without anything leading it to shatter.
I was preparing to go to work and started the vehicle. It was a cold morning and almost immediately after pressing the start button the back glass exploded into my driveway and into the cargo area of the vehicle.
Rear windshield spontaneously shattered. Remote started the vehicle walked up to it and it just shattered. Didn’t touch it. Wipers weren’t on. Vehicle was in park in a parking garage with cameras. Found tons of reports online of others having the same issue. This needs to be recalled!!!
As I was parked about to take off I put the rear defroster because it was raining in LA and as I was about to take off I heard a loud popping noise and I looked to the back and all I could see was my back windshield shattered… when I opened the door to go check it just fell apart there was no one around me and there was no trees or branches or rocks that could’ve hit it. Very scary!!!
It was a cold evening. I was driving on the highway for roughly 15 minutes, with rear defroster on, when the rear windshield shattered spontaneously, with enough force to send pieces of glass into the back seat. There was a loud thud when it happened. There were no warnings by the vehicle. Police inspected the vehicle and said it was not caused by any external objects.
I was driving down the [XXX] south bound on [XXX]. Around 5:15pm on a rainy and i must have not been going no faster than 60 miles per hour and it was already dark and then all of a sudden you hear an explosion sound noise from the back of the car. I originally thought it was bullet of a sort. I couldn’t believe the window was broken. How, I asked myself did the window have a hole. How did the glass break. How did this happen. I wanted requested footage from CHP to see if something shot at us. But now I see Honda made a default car. So sad because I love Honda and I feel betrayed by them. Rear windshield of the vehicle spontaneously shattered while driving the night of December 16, 2023. The rear defroster was not powered on although the outside temperature was in the upper 30's. Nothing struck the windshield.
Steering has become jerky and sticks in the last two weeks…makes it very hard to drive and feels unsafe. We turned off the lane assist to see if that helped but no different. Diagnostic test was done today but results not yet confirmed. Was told it was “safe@ to drive but power steering warning light came on twice on my 15 minute drive home.
Rear glass shattered while parked unoccupied. Honda dealer claimed no recall, even though there are alerts from honda

About 10am in Dec 14th, there was something is broken sound after closing my car door, and when I turn around to check what happened, the rear windshield of car is shartted. It's obviously to see the cracks is started from sides. And excluding the man-made and natural possibilities, I think it is the bad quality of rear for vehicle. Before founding this component, my car is normally working on the night of Dec 13th. I only opened “rear” to heat in order to get a better rear view. And then I parked in front of my house. The only one factor I can ensure causing this in my mind is the problems with the quality and with the rear system. Never a car window is easily shattered because of heat rear. Although it’s no hurt happened, the bad quality of rear windshield is probably increase dangerous level if the vehicle is heated rear during a rainy day while driving. Before the rear windshield is shattered, about a week ago, the rear system seems not working to remove mist well. I had reported this situation to insurance and the dealer, but the dealer think it’s caused by natural reason or man-made. And all the repair fee is paid by myself, I don’t think it’s reasonable, and they told me they cannot replace the glass as soon as possible because it’s back-ordered. It makes huge inconvenience to me. (Hope to report this as a record if Honda can realize a “small” but big issue later)
I was park and suddenly I heard a kind of exploding from the back of my car, I thought someone was trying to steal something but it was nobody and it was nothing than can cause the damage.
The problem is related to steering. Steering wheel sticks at any speed but gets more hazardous as speed increases. Potential for accidental over steering— causing difficulties staying in lane. Accident did not occur, but steering problem could easily cause one.
REAR WINDOW - while driving down the highway the rear window just made a loud POP when I looked my rear view mirror the whole window had shattered .... immediately pulled off the highway .
I was driving at 30mph and my rear windshield shattered after having the defroster on. I had a passenger in the back seat when this happened and not only did it hurt his ears because how loud the pop noise was; he could have been seriously injured by any glass debris that could of scattered around.
Rear glass shattered no reason, no accidents

Back window
On December 11, 2023, my wife and I drove 4 miles to a local restaurant with friends. We used the rear defroster as the outside air temperature was 50 degrees and humid. Upon leaving the restaurant 1.5 hours later, we discovered the whole back window was shattered. We reviewed the restaurant's security camera footage for the complete duration of our meal and it was very clear no one or anything went near the HRV. Honda is refusing to pay for repairs, so we had Safelite fix the back window. As of January 17th, 2024, Honda has not reimbursed us for the defective window even though the vehicle is still under original warranty.
Rear window failed/shattered when the driver side door was closed. Sounded like a loud bang, glass fell into rear hatch area and there was a hole in the window. Looking at the window it appears that the plastic seal around the window failed. If this happens at speed the result could be catastrophic. I’ve contacted Honda and am waiting to hear from the dealership.
Rear window on truck door exploded and shattered in 50 degree weather while parked. There was no collision or impact to the window. There is a softball sized hole and the entire window shattered in driveway. The Car is a year old.
