I WAS DRIVING IN MOTION IN A NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF AND COULD BARELY PULL OVER CAUSE THE STEERING LOCKED UP. BEFORE THAT, I WAS LEAVING A GAS STATION AND AGAIN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION.
MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS HAD 3 FRONT POWER WINDOW REGULATORS FAILURES. THE VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN MOTION WHEN THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER WINDOW SUDDENLY DROPS INTO THE DOOR FRAME. IT IS SUDDEN, LOUD, AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM AS DOCUMENTED ON SEVERAL HONDA FORUMS AND GOOGLE SEARCHES. HONDA DENIES RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PART AND ALLOWS THE PROBLEM TO GO UNABATED. THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT ON THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN IS AN INVESTIGATION GOING TO BE INITIATED?
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VAN ON A HWY THE RPMS WENT UP AND THE VAN WOULD NOT GO AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS TOTALLY GONE. I GOT PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD TO CALL A WRECKER SERVICE TO COME AND PICK US UP. THE VAN HAS BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT A WEEK. I GOT IN IT AND IT WILL GO IN A LOWER GEAR BUT ONLY UNTIL THE VAN WARMS UP THEN IT WILL NOT MOVE AT ALL. IT COST ME $200. TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME AND I WAS TOLD BY A TRANSMISSION SHOP THAT IT WOULD COST ME ANYWHERE FROM $2500 TO $4500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THAT IS MORE THAN THE VAN IS APPARENTLY WORTH. I HAVE SPENT MY CHRISTMAS MONEY ON JUST THE TOWING. I NEED HELP IN GETTING IT FIXED I AM A SINGLE MOM WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN. I DID NOT HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THE VAN WITH ME BUT IT WAS ME AND MY EX MOTHER IN LAW AND IT WAS NIGHT AND A MOUNTAINOUS HWY. IF I HAD NOT GOTTEN MY VAN OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD ACCIDENT AS THERE ARE A LOT OF CARS AND BIG RIG TRUCKS THAT DRIVE ON THAT ROAD.
THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEGUN SLIPPING. THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL EVEN THOUGH HONDA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER SEVERAL TIMES TO LET TRANSMISSION COOL OFF BEFORE CONTINUING TO MY DESTINATION. TOOK IT BACK TO DW AUTO WHERE I PURCHASED SAID VEHICLE. THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT FOR TRADE IN BECAUSE HONDA ODYSSEY HAS BAD TRANSMISSIONS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLUCTUATED UP AND THEN DOWN TO ZERO. THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS; HOWEVER THE DIAGNOSIS WAS UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, AN ABNORMAL SOUND EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,700.
A FEW DAYS AGO THE DRIVER DOOR STOPPED WORKING, IT DOES NOT OPEN AT ALL EITHER INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, NEITHER WITH THE INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. THE FACT IS THAT THE DRIVER DOOR DOES NOT OPEN AT ALL. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT THE DRIVER MAY BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE UNLESS HE/SHE IS STRONG ENOUGH TO BREAK THE VEHICLE'S GLASS. MOREOVER, SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, ITS SLIDING DOORS FAIL A LOT, MANY TIMES THEY DON'T OPEN FROM BOTH INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, WITH THE REMOTE OR MANUALLY OPERATED, WHICH AGAIN IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT WILL MAKE VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE PASSENGERS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINS ABOUT HONDA ODYSSEY CUSTOMERS ABOUT DOOR ISSUES BUT NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN.
THE REAR BUMPER BEAM ON MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY RUSTED AND BROKE UP INTO PIECES THAT HAVE FALLEN OUT FROM UNDER THE BUMPER COVER. I ASSUME THAT I NO LONGER HAVE FULL REAR END CRASH PROTECTION. MY MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED FAILURE, I SHOULD SEE ABOUT HAVING THE MANUFACTURER REPLACE IT FOR ME. THEY REFERRED ME TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER REFERRED ME TO THEIR PREFERRED BODY SHOP FOR AN ESTIMATE. NOT SURE WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT, BUT AM HOPING THE LOCAL DEALER WILL ASK THE MANUFACTURER TO COVER THE REPAIR.
I PURCHASED THIS VAN FROM A DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD IT WAS IN GREAT CONDITION, NO PROBLEMS, NO RECALLS. THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED IN LESS THAN THIRTY DAYS. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHEN TRANSMISSION FAILED, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HONDA NEEDS TO PAY TO REPLACE ALL OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE, KILLED. I'M NOW TRYING TO LOOK INTO DIFFERENT ESTIMATES TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY REBUILT.
SOFT BRAKE PEDALS. BRAKE PEDAL HAS TO GO ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE STOPPING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE PARKED, THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS FAILED TO OPEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN IF THE VEHICLE'S GEAR WAS IN THE DRIVE POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WITHOUT WARNING NO DASH LIGHTS NOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS MY TRANSMISSION FAILED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC..A SLIGHT UP REV AND THEN COMPLETE FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION....JUST AVOIDED BEING REARENDED AS THE CAR SLOWED QUICKLY ON A RISE AND JUST MADE IT TO THE SHOULDER IN TRAFFIC..FLUID LEVELS WERE NORMAL BUT FLUID HAD A ODOR ...MY MECHANIC TOWED THE CAR AND DRAINED AND FILLED THE TRANS (NOT CONVERTOR) TO VERIFY CONDITION..TRANS WILL MOVE IN REVERSE AT HIGH RPM. THIS TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED 6/6/05 AT 37400 MILES UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS BEEN SERVICED AND TOPPED OFF AS NEEDED UNTIL NOW..IN HEAVY TRAFFIC SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD HAVE OCCURED IF NOT FOR OBSERVANT DRIVER BEHIND ME..I UNDERSTAND FROM TRANSMISSION SHOPS AND REBUILDERS THAT HONDA TRANSMISSION ARE BUILT TO FAIL WITH VERY POOR DESIGN (NO FILTERING OF FLUIDS,,AND VERY WEAK CLUTCH ASSEMBLIES) TO REPAIR THIS VEHICLE IT WILL COST $3800.00-TO $5000.00 FOR NEW TRANSMISSION AND $3000.00 FOR A RELIABLE REBUILT (JASPER) THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED TO REPLACE MY 2004 FREESTAR WITH TRANSMISSION FAILURES THREE TIMES WITHIN 75.000 MILES. *TR
VAN WAS PARKED AFTER A LONG TRIP (~700 MILES) AND NO TROUBLE NOTED AT THAT POINT. NEXT TIME THE VAN WAS DRIVEN THERE WAS A RUBBING SOUND WITH FREQUENCY AT TIRE SPEED AND A RATTLING SOUND. CHECKED WHEEL WELL AND FOUND PIECE OF BROKEN FRONT SPRING IN THE PASSENGER WHEEL WELL, STILL TANGLED WITH THE STRUT ASSEMBLY, WHICH WE REMOVED SO WE COULD DRIVE HOME. FORTUNATELY NO TIRE DAMAGE WAS NOTED, BUT THE SPRING LOOKS LIKE IT COULD POP OUT OF THE CONTAINING COLLAR. LOOKED LIKE A FATIGUE FRACTURE, SUSPECT IT OCCURRED DURING THE TWO WEEKS THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN AN UNHEATED BUILDING. ABOUT 3/4 TURN OF THE COIL WAS BROKEN OFF. AFRAID THE OTHER SPRING COULD GO AT ANY TIME! THIS COULD BE BAD AT HIGHWAY SPEED IF THE TIRE WAS PUNCTURED. *TR
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY, PURCHASED WITH 83,610 MILES FROM SUBARU OF EXETER. JUNE 23, 2008, 104,527 MILES. IT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT WARRANTY COVERED UP TO 109,000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL WARRANTY AT DOVER AUTO WORLD, HONDA SERVICE, DUE TO CHECK ENGINE AND TCS LIGHTS BEING ON. TRANSMISSION CAME WITH A 3YR/36,000 WARRANTY. DECEMBER 1, 2014, 184,148 MILES (80K ON 2ND TRANSMISSION), DIFFICULT TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE AND DRIVE SOMETIMES ENGINE SLIPS BEFORE FINALLY ENGAGING INTO GEAR, OVER THE NEXT WEEK, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TCS AND D4 LIGHT FLASHING LIGHT ON. TRANSMISSION FAULT CODE P0780, DIAGNOSED, DROVE VAN TWO MORE DAYS WHEN TRANSMISSION FAILED. TOWED TO LOCAL IN TOWN MECHANIC, GIVEN ESTIMATE FOR A RE-MANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION + LABOR $4,500. SPOKE WITH HONDA MOTORS OF AMERICA, ON DEC 18TH 2014 PROVIDED WITH ALL REQUESTED INFORMATION, THE RESPONSE PROVIDED BY HONDA IS THAT THE VAN HAD EXCEEDED WARRANTY AND I WOULD NEED TO TAKE THE LIABILITY AND PAY FOR IT. HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE WHERE SURPRISED THAT IT WAS REPLACED IN 2008 UNDER WARRANTY. HONDA CLAIMED THE MILEAGE LIMIT WAS 100,000. BOTTOM LINE IS NO HELP, SPOKE WITH LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP...THEY COULD NOT HELP. SINCE HONDA OF AMERICA HAD DENIED ME. I AGREE THAT I SHOULD COVER A PORTION OF THE COST (LABOR) BUT HONDA SHOULD COVER FOR MATERIALS SINCE ITS THEIR PRODUCT AND THEY SHOULD STAND BEHIND IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SRS MODULE OR THE SRS UNIT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 14V700000 (AIR BAGS), 14V351000 (AIR BAGS), 14V349000 (AIR BAGS), 13V132000 (AIR BAGS), AND 11V260000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VAN WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. I WAS WASHING IT AND OPENED THE HOOD. LUCKILY I NOTICED THAT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL WAS ALMOST CUT CLEAN THROUGH. THERE WERE ONLY A COUPLE OF COPPER STRANDS GROUNDING MY HONDA VAN. I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF IT HAD LOST ELECTRICAL CONNECTION WHILE DRIVING!!!
ON 4TH OF JULY 2014 - (INVOICE OF $4000 ON INDEPENDENCE DAY) - WAS DRIVING FROM FAMILY WEDDING EVENTS AND SUDDENLY FEELING DRIVE SHIFT AND SLIPPING GEARS ISSUE. I HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO AVOID ACCIDENTS FROM THIS HONDA'S FAULTY TRANSMISSION IT IS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE CAN LOCK UP FRONT WHEELS ON HIGHWAY AND CAN CREATE MAJOR ACCIDENT... NOW NEED TO DO REPLACEMENT/REBUILT OF POWER TRAIN (TRANSMISSION) TO FIX FOLLOWING ISSUE " FLARED 1-2 AND 2-3 SHIFTS, LONG PARK TO REVERSE OR PARK TO DRIVE ENGAGEMENT TIMES, OR IN EXTREME CASES NO TAKEOFF IN FORWARD OR REVERSE AFTER START UP." TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACEMENT AT 81,681 MILES, $5026.00, ALL WORK DONE BY HONDA DEALERSHIP 4/13/11. NOW AT 142,000 HONDA TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN. WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65MPH WHEN ENGINE LOST POWER. COASTED TO SIDE OF FREEWAY. *TR
INITIAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 100,000 MILES. HONDA MADE GOOD ON WARRANTY AND REPLACED WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. THE SECOND TRANSMISSION HAS NOW FAILED AT 170,000 MILES - AFTER ONLY 70,000 MILES OF USE. *TR
I REALIZED THAT IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AFTER BEING AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN IT FINALLY DID IT WOULD JERK BETWEEN GEARS. THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON FOR THE 2ND TIME (THE 1ST LAST WEEK FOR A SHORT THAT WAS FIXED). THEN MY TCS CAME ON AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF. THE TRANSMISSION IS ERRATIC AND PREVIOUSLY HAD ISSUES BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD. NOW I'M TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. IT HAS LESS THAN 96,000 MILES. I'M A SINGLE MOM W/ 2 KIDS I CAN'T AFFORD THAT. I GOT THIS VAN FROM A RELATIVE AFTER MY PATHFINDER (W NEARLY 300,000 MILES ON IT) HAD AN ENGINE GASKET ISSUE I COULDN'T AFFORD TO HAVE FIXED BECAUSE THE ENGINE HAD TO BE BROKEN DOWN. I'M SEEING THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE FOR 12 YRS WORTH OF MODELS? WHY IS THERE NO WARNING? WHEN I LOOKED AT OTHER CARS THERE WERE STATEMENTS WITH THEM ABOUT ISSUES. HONDA NEEDS TO FIX THIS. THIS IS HORRIBLE QUALITY MANAGEMENT. A MINI VAN IS A KID MOBILE - HOW WOULD HONDA LIKE THE PRESS IF KIDS ARE HURT BECAUSE THIS GOES OUT WHEN KIDS ARE IN IT? I GET MY VAN SERVICED BY A MECHANIC EVERY 2 MOS - I TAKE CARE OF MY CARS. MY LAST ONE WAS 17 YRS OLD. I WON'T BUY HONDA AGAIN IF THIS IS REPRESENTATIVE OF THEIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT AND PRODUCT QUALITY. I'VE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION UNDER 225,000 MILES BEFORE ON ANY MAKE OR MODEL. *TR
ON THE EVENING OF SUNDAY, MAY 25, 2014, I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY WITH MY YOUNG SON GOING APPROXIMATELY 55MPH. AS I BEGAN TO ASCEND A SLIGHT HILL ONTO A BRIDGE, THE TCS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS BOTH ILLUMINATED. AS I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE UP THE HILL, THE RPMS SHOT UP BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT PROPEL FORWARD. I MANAGED TO MAKE IT OVER THE BRIDGE GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. AFTER I BEGAN THE DESCENT DOWN, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHATSOEVER. I THEN COASTED DOWN TO A STOP IN A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT PARKING LOT. MY CAR WAS LATER TOWED AND SEEN AT A REPAIR SHOP. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT ON THE BRIDGE, THERE WERE NO SIGNS OR WARNINGS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. WHAT'S MORE IS APPROXIMATELY 8 YEARS AGO, THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED WITH THE VEHICLE (ON A FREEWAY, ALTHOUGH NOT AT AN INCLINE). THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THAT TIME AS WELL. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AT STARTUP. HONDA DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS 2ND GEAR TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE. RECOMMENDED A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION AT APPOX $4000 OR REBUILT OR USED AT ABOUT $2500. STILL THINKING OVER MY DECISION. *JS

ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. WHEN TOOK TO MARIN HONDA WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT 74,000 MILES. *TR
THE TCS. & CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS TURNED ON, GEAR WOULD JAM IN, AFTER A STOP THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL, WOULD FREQUENT JUMPS WHEN THE GEAR CHANGED, CANNOT ACCELERATE, AFTER REGULAR MAINTAINENCE WITH OIL CHANGES N TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE, THE ISSUE UNRESOLVED. DIAGNOSED BY 3. AUTO EXPERTS AS TRANSMISSION ISSUE THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH 1999- 2001 ODYSSEY MODELS. ONLY 82540 MILES. I AM 2 ND OWNER. I AM RETIRED AND NEED REDRESSAL OF THIS ISSUE AS I CAN'T AFFORD SERIOUS REPAIR COSTS. *TR
TAKATA RECALL IN JANUARY, 2014, I LEFT THE ROAD TO AVOID ANOTHER CAR, HIT A DEER-CROSSING SIGN WHICH THEN DEPLOYED THE DRIVERS AIRBAG. THE AIRBAG BLASTED OUT TO THE RIGHT OF THE STEERING WHEEL THUS HITTING MY RIGHT ARM. MY RIGHT ARM WAS BROKEN AND REQUIRED SURGERY TO REPAIR. 2 TITANIUM PLATES AND 15 SCREWS. BLACK CLOUD OF WHAT MUST HAVE BEEN A PROPELLANT WAS PUMPED INTO MY FACE AND UPPER BODY. THE SKIN ON MY RIGHT HAND PEELED 4 TIMES.
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING AT AROUND 25 MPH WITH D3 FLASHING AND TCS LIGHT INDICATOR ON. THE VAN BEGAN LOOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING AND REVOLUTION HIGH IN THE POWER TRAIN. THIS IS THE REBUILD TRANSMISSION I REPLACED IN NOVEMBER 19, 2010. SO IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN 3 YEARS AND THE WARRANTY FROM HONDA MANUFACTURE HAS EXPIRED. *TR
REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION FAILURE - VEHICLE HAS HAD ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 56,297 MILES ON ODOMETER. REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 109,474 MILES ON ODOMETER. TIME ELAPSED BETWEEN TRANSMISSION FAILURES - 6.2 YEARS EACH. MILES ON UNIT 53,170 MILES. HONDA USA WILL DO NOTHING TO ASSIST OWNER IN REPLACING TRANSMISSION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A CHILD WAS ABLE TO WRAP THE SEAT BELT AROUND THEIR NECK, POSING A POSSIBLE CHOKING HAZARD. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE SEAT BELT FROM THE CHILD'S NECK BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ALSO BECOME JAMMED AND WOULD NOT DISLODGE AT THE BASE. THE CONTACT HAD TO SEVER THE SEAT BELT IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE BELT FROM AROUND THE CHILD'S THROAT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. I BOUGHT MY PREOWNED 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY WITHIN THE FIRST 20 DAYS I COULD FEEL THE TRANNY SLIPPING SOMETIMES. SO I CALL THE DEALER AND HE SAID SOLD AS IS. I BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC SHOP AROUND THE BLOCK FROM MY WORK. THEY HOOKED IT UP TO A SCANNER AND THEY TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS "A LOCK UP SOLENOID FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER." BASICALLY SAID TOO BAD YOUR OUT OF LUCK. I AM DONE WITH HONDA. I SHOULD HAVE DONE MY USUAL AND RESEARCHED BEFORE BUYING AND I NEVER WOULD HAVE PURCHASED AN ODYSSEY. I FIGURED IT WAS A HONDA SO WHAT COULD THE WORST BE? ALL OTHERS I HAVE OWNED RAN GREAT WITH VERY FEW PROBLEMS. I JUST BROUGHT THIS VAN NOT KNOW HONDA HAD BAD TRANS. FOURTH TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON A VAN I'VE OWNED SINCE NEW. FIRST ONE FAILED AT APPROX. 55K MILES, THE SECOND ONE AT 96K MILES, THE THIRD ONE AT 122K MILES AND FINALLY THE FOURTH ONE AT APPROX 155K MI. AHM PICKED UP THE COST FOR THE FIRST TWO (THEY HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY UP TO 105K MILES AND I HAD ALSO PURCHASED THE 7 YEAR / 100K MILES EXTENDED WARRANTY). THE THIRD TRANSMISSION COST ME $1000 FOR LABOR, BUT AHM PAID FOR THE TRANSMISSION. THE WARRANTY ON THIS THIRD TRANSMISSION INSTALLED IN THE CAR WAS 3 YEARS OR 36K MILES. IT FAILED AGAIN UNDER 36K MILES, BUT A FEW MONTHS OVER THE 3 YEAR MARK (EXPIRED IN JUNE '13, AND IT FAILED AT BEGINNING OF OCT '13). IT LEFT MY FAMILY STRANDED 90 MILES NORTH OF SAN DIEGO LATE AT NIGHT. WHILE CLEARLY THE LETTER OF THE LAW IS WITH AHM AS THE WARRANTY PERIOD INDEED EXPIRED, I THINK I HAD WINDSHIELD WIPERS THAT LASTED LONGER THAT THE HONDA TRANSMISSION ON THIS VAN. AS A SIDE NOTE, THIS WAS A GOOD CAR AND WE HAD MINIMAL ISSUES WITH IT OTHER THAN THE DISPOSABLE TRANSMISSIONS. AHM SHOULD FIGURE OUT THAT PUSHING OUT A BADLY DESIGNED TRANSMISSION (BASED ON WHAT I'VE READ) IS NOT A WAY FOR GETTING REPEAT CUSTOMERS. I HAD AN ACCORD (WHICH WAS OK) AND I STILL HAVE MY S2000 (WHICH I LOVE), BUT I WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA EVER AGAIN. *TR
I HAVE A HONDA ODYSSEY - 92000 MILES - WHEN THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES STARTED. CHECK ENGINE AND TCS LIGHTS CAME ON AND D4 LIGHT BLINKING. CALLED HONDA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD, BUT WITHIN THE 100,000 MILES. HONDA HAD RECALLED THIS MODEL AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 7 YEARS, WHICH MEANS THEY DID PUT FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS IN THESE MODELS. BUT NOW THEY ARE NOT HONORING THEIR WARRANTY. WHY LIMIT THE WARRANTY BY TIME. THERE ARE MANY FAMILIES THAT DO NOT USE THE CAR TO DO 100,000 MILES IN 7 YEARS. TRANSMISSIONS ISSUES ARE BASED ON USE SO WHY LIMIT THE WARRANTY TO TIME OF 7-YEARS. IT SHOULD BE LIMITED BY MILEAGE. VERY DISAPPOINTED BY HONDA. *TR
DRIVING IN I-78 WEST AND SPEED SUDDENLY DECREASED WHILE RPM INCREASED. STEERED OVER TO SHOULDER AND STOPPED. SHIFTED CAR INTO PARK. THEN I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND VAN WOULD NOT MOVE. RPM INCREASED AGAIN. VAN TOWED OFF HIGHWAY AND THEN EVENTUALLY HOME. TRANSMISSION SHOT PER MECHANIC. TRANSMISSION PREVIOUSLY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 56,125 MILES. CURRENTLY AT 143,000 MILES. HONDA WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. TOTALLY UNHAPPY WITH HONDA AND WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE. *TR
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A RED STOP LIGHT. THE LIGHT HAD TURNED GREEN AND I PROCEEDED TO GO AND PUSHED THE GAS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. I TURNED THE VAN OFF AND ON BY THE IGNITION A FEW TIMES THINKING IT WAS SOMETHING OTHER THAN A TRANSMISSION GEAR ISSUE. I SAT THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON, IT CAUGHT GEAR SO I PROCEEDED TOWARDS WORK. LUCKILY I WAS ONLY A HALF BLOCK FROM MY JOB. AS I WAS PULLING IN THE TRANSMISSION HAD SLIPPED AGAIN AND I BARELY COASTED INTO A PARKING SPACE. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AND THEY FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION, RESET THE SYSTEM AND TOLD ME THAT I WAS GOING TO NEED TO HAVE IT REBUILT. THE TRANSMISSION SHOP TOLD ME THAT THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAS THESE ISSUES AND IT HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE LIGHTS AND OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON. THE MECHANIC HAS INFORMED ME THAT I WILL NEED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. AGAIN FOR THE 3RD TIME. AND THIS AFTER HAVING THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED IN FEBRUARY OF 2013. THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED IN 2007, 2011 AND NOW 2013. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE 2011 AND NOW THEY SAY FOR THE 2013. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS ARE FAILING SO SOON. AT THE TIME OF RECALL TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT CAR HAD 103,000 MILES ON IT WE GOT 47,000 MILES OUT THE TRANSMISSION THAT HONDA REPLACED IN 2008. NO WARNING LIGHTS NO SIGNS OF TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR WITH 82082 MILEAGE ON IT, AND NOW THE MILEAGE IS 82867, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, WENT TO THE MECHANIC, THEY PULLED OUT P0740 ISSUE, WHICH ACCORDING TO THEM IS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE, ACCORDING TO THE REVIEWS FOUND ONLINE IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH HONDA ODYSSEY 1999-2004 MODEL. THE DEALER NEGOTIATED WITH HONDA A GOODWILL REPLACEMENT OF A REBUILT TRANSMISSION WHERE WE HAD TO PAY $1471.68. WE WERE NEVER TOLD OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT SHOULD HAVE COVERED ENTIRELY THE FIRST FAILED TRANSMISSION. SINCE OWNING THIS VEHICLE, WE HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON SCHEDULED AND PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE ON OUR CARS AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. ON APRIL 12, 32,000 MILES LATER, THE REBUILT TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP INTERMITTENTLY, THEN SERIOUSLY ON MY DRIVE HOME FROM WORK. IT SLIPPED IN LOWER GEARS AND WOULD NOT GO INTO HIGHER GEARS. I BARELY ESCAPED BEING REAR ENDED ON THE WAY HOME AND WAS LUCKY TO MAKE IT HOME. WHEN I CONTACTED HONDA AMERICA 7 DAYS AGO, IT TOOK HONDA OVER 1 WEEK BEFORE TELLING US THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANYTHING SINCE WE WERE OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD OF 36 MONTHS OR 36,000 MILES. WE ALSO OWN A 2001 HONDA ACCORD BROUGHT FROM THE SAME DEALER ON THE SAME DAY. WE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILED TRANSMISSION AT @ 90,000 MILES WITH THE ACCORD ALSO AND WERE GIVEN A GOODWILL OFFER BY HONDA THAT OFFSET THE COST WE HAD TO PAY. OUR 2001 ACCORD IS A TICKING BOMB WITH 120,000 MILES AND WE WILL NEED TO GET RID OF IT BEFORE IT FAILS ALSO. APPARENTLY THE ORIGINAL AND THE REBUILT TRANSMISSIONS ARE DEFECTIVE. I READ ONLINE THAT HONDA DID NOT REBUILD THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION, BUT ONLY REPLACED THE GEARS THAT FAILED. ACCORDING TO AN EXPERT TRANSMISSION MECHANIC, THERE IS AN ENDEMIC PROBLEM WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION CAUSED BY A SOFT DISK COMPONENT THAT RUNS VERY HOT THAT CAUSES GEARS TO BE CHEWED UP AND EVENTUALLY FAIL. THIS MEANS THAT REBUILT DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS ARE BEING REINSTALLED IN THE CARS WHICH WILL FAIL AGAIN BECAUSE THE COMPONENT CAUSING THE PROBLEM WAS NOT REPLACED AND IT CONTINUES TO DAMAGE THE GEARS. I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IN CRUISE AT 70 MPH. I FELT A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND TURNED THE CRUISE OFF. WITHIN 2 SECONDS, I FELT THE GAS PEDAL DOES NOT HAVE POWER EITHER. I COULD SMELL FUMES INSIDE THE CAR. I PULLED OVER TO SAFETY. LUCKILY FOR THAT SPEED, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER WITHOUT GETTING REARED. 1ST TRANSMISSION REPLACED ON MY VAN AT 89K MILES. NOW TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN AT 156K MILES. SO THAT MEANS THE NEW TRANSMISSION FAILED BEFORE EVEN 60K MILES. NOW THE NEW REPLACEMENT I AM TOLD IS GOING TO COST 4000$. WHEN SHIFTING INTO GEAR, LOUD NOISE HEARD AS WELL. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BY THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP IN 2008 AT 108,000 DUE TO AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY WHICH RESULTED FROM A 2006 CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. I CALLED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHO REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION THE FIRST TIME AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE WARRANTY ON THE 2ND TRANSMISSION HAD EXPIRED BECAUSE IT WAS OVER THE 3 YEAR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY. AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE, I HAD TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE SO THAT I COULD GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK. I HAD TO RELY ON OTHERS TO GET ME TO WORK AND BACK HOME FOR SEVERAL DAYS WHILE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE. TOOK IT TO WILLIS HONDA (THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM ) AND THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED (WITHIN EXTENDED WARRANTY (93 MONTHS & 109000 MILES) ON MILES AND 2 MONTHS OUTSIDE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON MONTHS. HONDA AGREED TO FOOT HALF THE COST ($1200) AS A ONE TIME GOODWILL. NOW IT IS 145000 MILES AND THIS WINTER SINCE JANUARY (I LIVE IN NJ) I NOTICE THAT WHEN IT IS COLD AND THE ENGINE IS COLD AND I START DRIVING WITHOUT WARMING UP AROUND 20-25 MPH THE ENGINE REVS (POSSIBLY BECAUSE THE GEAR SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND OR 2ND TO 3RD DOESN'T HAPPEN SMOOTHLY). TOOK IT TO THE WILLIS HONDA WHO HAD INSTALLED THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION IN JUNE 2009 (36 MONTH/36000 MILE WARRANTY). IT IS NOW LITTLE OVER 43 MONTHS AND AROUND 47000 MILES ON THIS TRANSMISSION. THEY SAY THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AND WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED ($5500) AND THAT REPLACING THE FLUID/FLUSHING THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. ARE TRANSMISSIONS EXPECTED TO LAST ONLY 47000 MILES. I THINK HONDA IS SELLING BAD EQUIPMENT. *TR

THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WILL COST BETWEEN ABOUT $3,000 FOR A REBUILT TRANSMISSION OR OVER $5,000 FOR A NEW ONE. THE CAR IS ONLY WORTH ABOUT $5,000 IF THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM NOW MUCH LESS WITH THIS PROBLEM PROBABLY ONLY ABOUT $1-2,000. I AGAIN EXITED MY VEHICLE AND FOUND 3/4 OF FULL COIL NEAR MY TIRE. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY UPON WHICH IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER COIL HAD CRACKED AND DISLODGED FROM THE VEHICLE. TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT STRUTS/COILS AND RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE REAR SHOCKS AS WELL. HONDA CORPORATE DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS BEING A CHRONIC ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE, HOWEVER I DO SEE REPORTS ON LINE OF OTHER OWNERS WITH SIMILAR ISSUES. *TR
DRIVING TO SCHOOL ABOUT 25 MPH, THE TSC LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND P4 TRANSMISSION LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR. I TRIED TO LIMP IT BACK HOME AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. I HAD TO DRIVE IN REVERSE ONE BLOCK TO GET IT HOME. I PLUGGED IN MY ENGINE SCAN TOOL AND IT WAS READING A P0730 CODE. I CALLED MY MECHANIC AND DISCUSSED IT WITH HIM. HIS DATABASE INDICATES MAJOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH ODYSSEYS AND THAT THE RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM IS A NEW TRANSMISSION. *TR

DID RESEARCH ON IT AND CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THIS BUT IT HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT ENDED BEFORE I PURCHASED IT- AS I AM 2ND OWNER OF VEHICLE. ALL OTHER MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE ON TIME OR EARLY I HAD IT A YEAR BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO DO THIS. THE HONDA DEALER TRIED TO TALK ME INTO TRADING IT IN FOR A NEWER MODEL FOR LESS PAYMENTS THAN I WAS MAKING ON BUT I OWN IT OUT RIGHT BOUGHT FROM THEM! THEY KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH TRANSMISSION AND KEEP SELLING THEM!!!! *TR
