TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED AT 70,000 MILES. LESS THAN 31,000 MILES LATER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED A SECOND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 128,000.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE, HONDA HAS A HISTORY OF FAILURES OF THIS KIND WITH THE 2001 ODYSSEY. ITEM SHOULD BE RECALLED AT THE EXPENSE OF THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING UP A NARROW, TWISTY MOUNTAIN ROAD, TRANSMISSION FAILED, RENDERING CAR UNABLE TO MOVE FORWARD AND, DESPITE APPLICATION OF POWER, CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARD DOWN SLOPE. WAS ABLE TO FIND A CROSSROAD TO BACK INTO TO GET CAR OUT OF THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. THIS IS THE FIFTH TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN THIS CAR IN 150,000 MILES. ALL OF THE FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED IN TRAFFIC, CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
THE CAR STARTED SLIPPING BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND, 2ND AND 3RD GEAR AND LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT CAME ON AND D4 WAS FLASHING. THE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED MINUTES LATER. TCS LIGHT WAS OFF AND D4 STOPPED FLASHING, BUT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I WENT TO A DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD. *TR
VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN NEED OF ITS 3RD REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. 1ST FAILURE AT 81668 MILES IN DECEMBER OF 2004, 2ND FAILURE AT 125840 MILES IN JULY OF 2006, 3RD FAILURE AT 181000 MILES IN NOVEMBER OF 2011. ALL REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSIONS WERE FROM HONDA AND REPLACED AT A HONDA DEALER. LAST TRANSMISSION FAILED AT ONLY 54,000. WAS ASSURED BY DEALER SERVICE TECH AND HONDA THAT WITH THE LAST TRANSMISSION ALL PROBLEMS WERE CORRECTED BEFORE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED WITH 154,000 MILES IN JUNE OF 2010. NOW HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CLAIMS 54,000 MILES IS GOOD AMOUNT TO GET OUT OF A TRANSMISSION AND CAN OFFER NO WARRANTY BEYOND THE 3 YEAR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY WITH A REPLACEMENT PART. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY HONDA ODYSSEY AND I HAD NO COMPLAINTS. BUT NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN TRANNY GONE. I SERVICED IT ON THE REGULAR, FLUID NEVER CHANGED COLORS( BURNT COLOR). I GOT 183K . ON IT.. JUST DID TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP. NOW I WILL HAVE A GOOD MINIVAN IF I HAD A NEW TRANNY...ANY INFO WOULD BE HELPFUL AND GLADLY APPRECIATED.. *TR
THE D LIGHT START BLINKING ENGINE LIGHT IS ON ,TRANSMISSION START TO ACT FUNNY,A YEAR LATER START TO SLIP, ANOTHER YEAR IT'S DEAD. *TR
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD SLAM INTO GEAR AND SLIP OUT OF GEAR. HONDA REPAIRED IT IN LATE 2009 UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, LESS THAN TWO YEARS LATER, THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE. *JB

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 108,000 MILES. HONDA SERVICE SAYS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS 2 ENGINE MOUNTS. I AM ORIGINAL OWNER. CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED AT HONDA ONLY, I HAVE FOLLOWED THE SERVICE SCHEDULE. *TR
TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 67,000 MILES IN 2007. TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN AT 107,000 2011. HONDA NEEDS TO RECALL ALL ODYSSEY'S AND REPLACE THE TRANSMISSIONS WITH A PROPERLY DESIGNED ONE. WE TOOK OUR 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING DUE TO A "SERVICE ENGINE" LIGHT. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT AND SUBSEQUENT CODE MEANT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED - AGAIN. THIS WILL BE THE THIRD TRANSMISSION IN THE VEHICLE. THE LAST TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT 84K MILES. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 105K MILES. WE BELIEVE A TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 21K MILES, BUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE POWERTRAIN HAS EXPIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS INDICATED THAT IT IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THE HONDA ODYSSEY IS WIDESPREAD AND WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET, BY THE MANUFACTURER ITSELF AND BY THE THOUSANDS OF DEALERS THAT HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEMS OVER THE YEARS. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. IT WARRANTS ANOTHER RECALL AND PERMANENT FIX BY THE MANUFACTURER. THIS STYLE OF VEHICLE IS USED TO TRANSPORT FAMILIES AND IS NOT USED FOR TOWING OR OFFROAD PURPOSES. HONDA CORPORATION OF AMERICA SHOULD PAY OR REIMBURSE CONSUMERS FOR THIS OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND SAFETY ISSUE ON THEIR PRODUCT. *TR

TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. IT APPEARS THAT MOST 2001 HONDA ODYSSEYS HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
2001--ONLY 63000 MILES. DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET EARLY OCTOBER WHEN I NOTICE THE TCS LIGHT AND D3 INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE, VAN WOULD MOVE ONLY VERY VERY SLOWLY. HAD IT TOWED TO LOCAL HONDA DEALER. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A TRANNY FAILURE, REPLACEMENT WOULD COST $5300. DID THE DANCE WITH SERVICE REP, ETC. GOT AMERICAN HONDA INVOLVED, HAD TO ASK, OFFERED REPLACEMENT FOR $4320. TOLD THEM NO THANKS, WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN (UNLESS THEY OWN THIS) AND WILL DISCOURAGE ANYONE ELSE FROM DOING SO. THEY WERE ACTUALLY GOING TO CHARGE ME $80 FOR GIVING ME THE DIAGNOSIS THAT I NOW OWNED AN $8200 PAPER WEIGHT! WHEN I OBJECTED, THEY RELENTED. ABOUT THE ONLY GOOD THING I CAN SAY ABOUT THE SERVICE REPS EFFORT AND KEEPING ME AS A HAPPY HONDA CONSUMER. TOOK IT TO AN APPROVED JASPER TRANSMISSION INSTALLER AND HAD THEM PUT IN THE RECOMMENDED JASPER REPLACEMENT (WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD I WANT THE SAME PRODUCT FROM HONDA AGAIN?) TOTAL BILL JUST UNDER $4K. WE OBVIOUSLY DON'T DRIVE OUR VAN MUCH, BUT SO FAR IT IS RUNNING PERFECTLY. JASPER COMES WITH 3YR/100,000MI WARRANTY. I JUST DISCOVERED TONIGHT THAT THERE IS NOW A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT FILED. UNFORTUNATELY IT SEEMS TO COVER ONLY 2005/06 MODEL YEARS. YOU CAN BET I WILL BE CONTACTING THEM TO SEE IF THE SUIT CAN BE EXPANDED TO ADDITIONAL YEARS. THERE IS ALSO AN OCCUPY HONDA FACEBOOK PAGE! A DIAGNOSIS REVEALED TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE. THE DEALER RESET THE LIGHT. HOWEVER, ABOUT 100 MILES LATER, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. SOON AFTER, THE D4 INDICATOR LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND THERE WAS AN EXTREMELY SLOW GEAR ENGAGEMENT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DOWNSHIFT. ALSO, THE WATER PUMP, TIMING BELT AND TENSIONER WERE REPLACED. *JB
HONDA DEALERSHIP (HOEN HONDA/ POWAY HONDA) KNOWINGLY INSTALLED DEFECTIVE REBUILT TRANSMISSIONS (3 TIMES) ON MY HONDA ODYSSEY 2001. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED ALL THREE TIMES!! THESE TRANSMISSIONS ARE DEFECTIVE AND IT IS NOT A MATTER OF IF IT IS A MATTER OF WHEN THEY FAIL. RECENTLY, MY WIFE WAS STRANDED IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH HER ELDERLY PARENTS. LUCKILY, SHE GOT OUT OF CAR AND REDIRECTED TRAFFIC. HONDA CHARGED ME $4700 TO REPLACE THEIR DEFECTIVE REBUILT TRANSMISSION. HONDA AND THEIR DEALERSHIPS ARE VERY AWARE OF THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS THEY INSTALL AND ARE NOT WILLING TO STAND-BY THEIR PRODUCTS. I WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO KINDLY INVESTIGATE THE SAFETY OF THE THE DEFECTIVE REBUILT TRANSMISSION THAT ARE BEING INSTALLED BY HONDA. *KB
AT AROUND 120K OUR ODYSSEY WOULD OCCASIONALLY HAVE A "FUNNY" SHIFT WHERE IT CLUNKED A BIT. THIS HAPPENED ONLY OCCASIONALLY. THE SYMPTOMS WOULD MYSTERIOUSLY GO AWAY WHEN THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALER OR IN THE SHOP. WITH 149K, WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH THE TRANSMISSION ABRUPTLY DOWNSHIFTED INTO SECOND GEAR CAUSING THE SPEED TO BE QUICKLY REDUCED WITHOUT THE BREAKS BEING APPLIED, CREATING AN UNSAFE AND INOPERABLE VEHICLE. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THAT IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. YOU ARE DRIVING NORMALLY, THEN OUT OF NOWHERE YOUR CAR'S TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS TO A LOW GEAR. *TR
WHILE CLIMBING 5 DEGREE INCLINE TRANSSMISSION SLIPPED. ABLE TO TURN AROUND IN REVERSE. STOPPED ENGINE FOR FIVE MIN.. ABLE TO GO HOME WITH BRIEF FAILURES AT STOPLIGHTS. WHEN DELIVERING TO DEALERSHIP, VEHICLE WOULD NOT TRAVEL MORE THAN A BLOCK. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION IN OUR 2001 ODYSSEY WENT OUT FOR THE SECOND TIME AFTER JUST 45,000 MILES. IT WAS ORIGINALLY "REPAIRED" BY HONDA UNDER TERMS OF THEIR SETTLEMENT OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. BUT ACCORDING TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP WE TOOK IT TO, THE "REPAIR" DID NOT FIX THE UNDERLYING DESIGN FLAW. IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT HONDA ODYSSEY AND OTHER HONDA TRANSMISSIONS HAVE A DESIGN FLAW. OURS WENT OUT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AS WE WERE TRAVELING A BUSY HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 10 PM. LUCKILY THE CAR BRIEFLY RECOVERED AND WE WERE ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY HAZARDOUS SITUATION. *TR
WE PURCHASED THE 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH 70,382 MILES ON THE ODOMETER IN MAY 2007 FROM A DEALER. ALL OF THE SERVICE HAS BEEN PERFORMED AT HONDA DEALERS EXCEPT FOR A COUPLE OF OIL CHANGES DONE AT JIFFY LUBE. *TR IT IS DIFFICULT FOR US TO ACCEPT THAT THE TRANSMISSION IN THE HONDA ODYSSEY WOULD FAIL AFTER 4 YEARS AND 30,000 MILES. THE CAR IS DRIVEN BY TWO RETIRED PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THEIR EARLY 70S. THE ODYSSEY HAS NEVER BEEN USED FOR TOWING, DRIVEN HARD OR AT EXCESSIVE HIGH SPEED. IT IS MAINLY USED TO GO TO THE GROCERY STORE, GOING OUT TO EAT OR VISIT FRIENDS. WE HAVE NEVER BLOWN A TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE IN ANY OF THE OTHER CARS THAT WE HAVE OWNED DURING THE PAST 50 YEARS.
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH 79K MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND PERFORMED EVERY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE HONDA RECOMMENDED. NOW I HAVE A VAN WITH A BLUE BOOK VALUE OF 7,600 AND IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION FOR $5,000. HONDA WILL NOT HELP WITH THE REPAIR AND I AM OUT A VEHICLE. THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR VEHICLES AT ALL. *TR

DEALERSHIP EXAMINED CAR AND PULLED THE CODE P0740 MEANING TRANSMISSION FAILURE. FIRST TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AT 63,000 MILES UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM HONDA DUE TO KNOWN TRANSMISSION FAILURE. INFORMATION REGARDING EXTENDED WARRANTY ON FIRST TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT CAME FROM A FRIEND WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, NOT FROM HONDA. HONDA DID NOT NOTIFY US OF THIS PROBLEM. NOW, 3 1/2 YEARS AND 55,000 MILES LATER TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AGAIN. AMERICAN HONDA HAS REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THEIR REPRESENTATIVE STATING, "TO BE FRANK, HONDA HAS HAD SO MANY CLAIMS ON THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THIS HAS AFFECTED SO MANY PEOPLE THAT HONDA HAS NO ASSISTANCE LEFT FOR THIS PROBLEM." *TR
SLIDING DOORS: ONE DOOR STOPPED OPENING ALL TOGETHER, SO PASSENGERS CANNOT GET OUT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE IN THE BACK, CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR OPENS BUT THE ALARM SOUNDS WHEN DRIVING, SO THE MASTER SWITCH IN ON THE FRONT MUST BE IN THE OFF POSITION IN ORDER TO DRIVE. THIS MAKES THE DOOR INOPERABLE UNLESS THE SWITCH IS ON, AND THIS MUST BE DONE MANUALLY EVERY TIME THE DOOR NEEDS TO BE USED, CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD IN AN EMERGENCY. *TR
3 OUT OF 4 ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN WHEN I TOOK VAN TO DEALER AFTER BAD VIBRATION. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS "SEEN OFTEN". VAN HAS 180K MILES. NO RACING OR OFF ROAD DRIVING ECT. THE COST WAS $940.00. HONDA SHOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. *TR
LEFT AND RIGHT SLIDING DOORS DO NOT PROPERLY LATCH TO CLOSE DOOR COMPLETELY. DOORS OPEN WHILE DRIVING WHEN NAVIGATING A TURN OR GOING UPHILL THEN CLOSE WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR GOING DOWNHILL. UNSECURED OBJECTS INLCUDING HUMANS CAN BE THROWN FROM VEHICLE OR CRUSHED RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. *TT
WE HAVE A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY EX. AT 67,000 MILES, WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, I NOTICED THAT IT SEEMED TO BE SLOW AT SHIFTING GEARS AFTER SLOWING DOWN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. NOW AT 101,000, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SLOW SHIFTING SUDDENLY GOT DRAMATICALLY WORSE, WITH THE ENGINE REVVING UP BEFORE JERKING THE CAR AS THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY SHIFTS GEARS. NOW WHEN WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, OUT OF WARRANTY, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A "TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SYS. MALFUNCTION" AND THE REPLACEMENT WOULD COST $5000. I'M UPSET BECAUSE HONDA KNOWS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2001 MODEL AND SHOULD DEALT WITH IT HONESTLY WHEN WE BROUGHT THE CAR IN UNDER WARRANTY RATHER THAN TELLING ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL AND WAITING UNTIL AFTER 100,000 MILES TO INFORM ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACE. WE ARE TRYING TO DECIDE IF IT IS WORTH THE MONEY TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
BOTH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS ARE ON. WHEN I PRESSED ACCELERATOR, ENGINE IS RAISING BUT TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING - GEARS ARE SLIPPING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO DEALER. THEY ASKED ME $3800 FOR NEW TRANSMISSION + $1200 FOR LABOUR + TAX. I HAVE ONLY 108K MILES. STILL UNDER 109K MILES WARRANTY. SINCE IT IS BEYOND THE 93 MONTHS WARRANTY, AMERICAN HONDA OR DEALER ARE NOT WILLING TO DO ANY HELP EVEN THOUGH THE MILES ARE STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY. *TR

2001 HONDA ODYSSEY MINI VAN. I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF THE MINIVAN. THE TCS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE D STARTED BLINKING. I LOST POWER AND IT WAS LIKE IN A HIGH GEAR AND WOULD NOT TAKE OFF. I ABOUT GOT HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AND IT WOULD HAVE HURT ME AND MY CHILDREN. I CALLED HONDA. THEY SAID THERE WAS A WARRANTY EXTENSION BUT NO RECALL. I DO NOT KNOW WHY THEY WOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY IF THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THIS IS HOW PEOPLE GET HURT AND HAVE ACCIDENTS. IT IS TERRIBLE THAT AMERICA WOULD ALLOW THESE VEHICLES TO BE ON THE ROADS. I PAID GOOD MONEY FOR A "DEPENDABLE" VEHICLE, THAT IS NOT DEPENDABLE AND THE PROBLEMS ARE WIDELY KNOWN. I JUST WISH I WOULD HAVE FOUND SOME INFO OUT ABOUT THESE VEHICLES BEFORE I BOUT IT. 2001 ODYSSEY DEVELOPED TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS A FEW WEEKS AGO AT 155,000 MI. REPAIRS ARE NOW OFFERED BY DEALER AFTER ANALYSIS OF $4,500 FOR A TOTALLY NEW TRANSMISSION. EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFER RECEIVED FROM HONDA IN 2006 WAS BEYOND OUR THEN CURRENT MILEAGE. WE HAVE FOUND FROM INTERNET POSTINGS THIS RECALL APPARENTLY DID NOT SOLVE THE HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION FAILURE ISSUE. AFTER CALLS TO HONDA THEY WERE UNABLE TO OFFER ANY SUPPORT FOR US. WE ARE ORIGINAL OWNERS. *TR
I AM ON MY 3RD FAILED TRANSMISSION FROM HONDA WITH MY 2001 ODYSSEY. IT SEEMS THEY GO OUT EVERY 60,000-80,000 MILES. THE FIRST TWO WERE REPLACED WITH A FIGHT ALL THE WAY, BUT NEVERTHELESS REPLACED. NOW THEY ABSOLUTELY WONT REPLACE IT BECAUSE THEY GO BY THE CARS MILEAGE AND YEARS, NOT THE TRANSMISSIONS. FRONT ENGINE MOUNT IS BROKEN ON HONDA ODYSSEY. THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF OWNERS OF HONDA ODYSSEY THAT REPORT THIS PROBLEM WHEN I SEARCHED THE INTERNET. ON 6/30/08 I REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY, AND TODAY 5/17/11 I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME THAT SINCE MY FIRST REPLACEMENT WAS COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY, I HAVE NO KIND OF MANUFACTURER WARRANTY ON THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION. THEY ADVISED ME THAT IF I WOULD HAVE PAID FOR THE FIRST ONE AND NOT CLAIMED IT UNDER MY WARRANTY I WOULD STILL BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THEY GAVE ME A FAULTY TRANSMISSION AND NOW WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SITUATION. THEY KNEW ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH THE ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION AND FAILED TO TELL ME THAT THEY WERE PUTTING ANOTHER CRAPPY TRANSMISSION IN MY VEHICLE. THIS SHOULD BE UNLAWFUL. *TR
I PURCHASED THE ODYSSEY NEW AND AM STILL THE OWNER. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO FAIL UNDER NORMAL USE IN THE RANGE OF 60,000 MILES AND FAILED COMPLETELY AT 85,000. THIS WAS VERY COMMON AND PROBLEM THAT RESULTED IN A LAWSUIT AND FREE REPLACEMENT BY HONDA OF DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS. HOWEVER, I AM TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE IS TOO OLD, REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE FOR HONDA TO OFFER ANY HELP WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT IT IS WELL ESTABLISHED THAT THE TRANSMISSION IN THESE EARLY ODYSSEYS WAS MECHANICALLY DEFECTIVE AND IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY HONDA, AT LEAST A SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF THE COST OF REPAIRS SHOULD BE SHARED BY HONDA.
TRANSMISSION ON 2001 HONDA ODY STARTED LEAKING ONE DAY LAST WEEK. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP TODAY AND THEY TOLD ME HONDA HAS HAD ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN THIS YEAR OF ODYSSEY. IN MY CASE THE TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING SO BAD BETWEEN THE TWO HALVES OF THE TRANSMISSION RETURNING IT INOPERABLE AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I ONLY HAVE 70,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. *TR
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY REAR PASSENGER DOORS DO NOT CLOSE OR FULLY RETRACT. MY WIFE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALER AND IT WE RECEIVED AN INITIAL ESTIMATE OF $415 TO REPAIR. WE RECEIVED A REVISED ESTIMATE OF $717 TO REPLACE THE RIGHT SIDE DOOR SWITCH FOLLOWED BY A THIRD REVISION OF $1033 TO REPLACE THE CONTROL UNIT. A FOURTH REVISION TOTALING $1955 WAS RECEIVED TO REPLACE THE RIGHT SIDE DOOR MOTOR. THIS DID NOT FULLY CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE DOOR OPEN ALARM CONTINUES TO SOUND. THE RECOMMENDED CORRECTIVE ACTION NOW IS TO REPLACE THE INTERIOR WIRE HARNESS. THIS WILL BE AN ADDITIONAL COST. WE HAVE DECLINED THIS REPAIR BELIEVING THAT THE WIRE HARNESS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED EARLY ON DURING THE TROUBLESHOOTING PROCESS. I NOW BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY AND POTENTIAL FIRE ISSUE. A MONTH (2/21/2011) BACK, I HAD CHANGED TIMING BELT ASSEMBLY WITH THE SAME DEALER BUT THEY DIDN'T INFORM ABOUT MOTOR MOUNT CONDITION. YESTERDAY (6/19/2013) THE SAME DEALER DURING THE SAFETY INSPECTION SERVICE CALLED TO INFORM THE VAN IS FAILING THE SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO REAR ENGINE MOUNT CRACK. CONSIDERING THE EXPENSE AND EXPERIENCE ABOUT ANOTHER VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS, I PREFERRED TO HOLD THE REPAIR AND INVESTIGATE FURTHER. AFTER READING THE ON-LINE BLOGS AND CARTALK WEBSITE, IT SEEMS THE HONDA ODYSSEY VANS HAS THIS RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE MOUNT FAILURES. CAR WAS SERVICED REGULARLY BY 1ST OWNER AT HONDA DEALER,AND SHE WAS NEVER INFORMED ABOUT A POSSIBLE TRANNY PROBLEM. I CALLED HONDA AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT HELP. EVENTHOUGH THERE IS RECALL WITH THIS ISSUE AND HONDA HAS OFFERED TO PAY FOR REPAIR (LIMITED BY 7 YRS 9 MONTHS OR 109K MILES). INTERNET SEARCH WITH EDMUNDS AND OTHER CONSUME SITES INDICATES THIS PROBLEM IS A WIDESPREAD MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND HONDA IS REFUSING TO HELP PAY FOR REPAIR EVEN IF ITS LIMITED. *TR

SLIDING DOOR FAILURE. BOTH SLIDING DOORS FAILED ON JAN 17, 2011. THE DOORS WERE STUCK HALFWAY OPEN. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. WAS REPAIRED FOR THE PRICE OF $800. LUCKILY THE VAN WAS NO MOVING THAT THE TIME, BUT WE DID HAVE TO DRIVE IT TO THE MECHANIC WITH THE DOORS OPEN.
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY DRIVER SIDE SEAT WELD FAILURE. TWICE IN TWO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT. ELECTRIC SEAT DRIVE SHAFT LINKAGE FAIL WITH OUT WARNING CAUSING THE SEAT TO SUDDENLY FALL BACKWARDS. I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE MOVING CAR AND HAD MY MECHANIC REPAIR THE WELD. POWER SLIDING DOORS UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS ARE NOT MANUALLY OPERABLE. AUTOMACTIC DOOR FUNCTION IS ACTIVATED WITH DOOR HANDLES, FROM THE DASH, OR FROM THE KEY FOB. THESE FUNCTIONS ALTERNATELY WORK POORLY OR NOT AT ALL. ON A SNOWY & ICY DAY ONE DOOR QUIT COMPLETELY AND COULD ONLY BE OPENED AND CLOSED MANUALLY. THEN THE OTHER DOOR ALSO. RESEARCHING THE ISSUE LED ME TO USER POSTED ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS INVOLVING VARIOUS COMBINATIONS OF PULLING FUSES AND TURNING SWITCHES. AFTER PULLING THE BATTERY CABLE AND LEAVING IT OFF 1 MINUTE, THEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE DOOR FUNCTION WAS RESTORED. ASIDE FROM NORMAL OPERATION BEING A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY, THE SYSTEM IS SUBJECT TO FAILURE THAT CAN BE A COSTLY VISIT TO A REPAIR SHOP OR DEALERSHIP. I HOPE LATER MODELS OF THE ODYSSEY HAVE AN IMPROVED SYSTEM IN PLACE.
