THE REAR BUMPER BEAM ON MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY RUSTED AND BROKE UP INTO PIECES THAT HAVE FALLEN OUT FROM UNDER THE BUMPER COVER. I ASSUME THAT I NO LONGER HAVE FULL REAR END CRASH PROTECTION. MY MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED FAILURE, I SHOULD SEE ABOUT HAVING THE MANUFACTURER REPLACE IT FOR ME. THEY REFERRED ME TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER REFERRED ME TO THEIR PREFERRED BODY SHOP FOR AN ESTIMATE. NOT SURE WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT, BUT AM HOPING THE LOCAL DEALER WILL ASK THE MANUFACTURER TO COVER THE REPAIR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE PARKED, THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS FAILED TO OPEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN IF THE VEHICLE'S GEAR WAS IN THE DRIVE POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
DOORS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THEY DO NOT CLOSE AT TIMES. OUR PASSENGER DOOR WON'T CLOSE. WHEN YOU DRIVE, IT OPENS AUTOMATICALLY. THIS WAS RECALLED IN 2000 BUT NOT 2001. THERE IS NO WAY TO KEEP IT SHUT MANUALLY. SOMEONE COULD FALL OUT, VAN IS USELESS. COSTS AN ARM AND A LEG TO FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PIECES OF RUSTED METAL AND OTHER UNKNOWN SHARDS, HANGING FROM THE VEHICLE BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK AND THE FRAME. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 151,000. UPDATED 02/08/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION IN DEC 2011. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT T HE REAR CROSS MEMBER WAS RUSTING, WHICH WAS PRODUCING SHARDS OF METAL, THAT WERE DROPPING THROUGH THE SEAM BETWEEN THE REAR BUMPER AND FUEL TANK. UPDATED 02/13/12
FRONT ENGINE MOUNT IS BROKEN ON HONDA ODYSSEY. THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF OWNERS OF HONDA ODYSSEY THAT REPORT THIS PROBLEM WHEN I SEARCHED THE INTERNET. I WOULD LIKE DOT TO RESEARCH THIS ISSUE AS EXPERTS IN THIS FIELD AND DETERMINE IF THERE IS SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF CASES TO OPEN A CASE ON THIS ISSUE. I AM GETTING THIS WORK DONE IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. THIS IS NOT A MECHANICAL PART AND SHOULD NOT BE BROKEN OR WORN OUT. *TR
POWER SLIDING DOORS UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS ARE NOT MANUALLY OPERABLE. AUTOMACTIC DOOR FUNCTION IS ACTIVATED WITH DOOR HANDLES, FROM THE DASH, OR FROM THE KEY FOB. THESE FUNCTIONS ALTERNATELY WORK POORLY OR NOT AT ALL. ON A SNOWY & ICY DAY ONE DOOR QUIT COMPLETELY AND COULD ONLY BE OPENED AND CLOSED MANUALLY. THEN THE OTHER DOOR ALSO. RESEARCHING THE ISSUE LED ME TO USER POSTED ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS INVOLVING VARIOUS COMBINATIONS OF PULLING FUSES AND TURNING SWITCHES. AFTER PULLING THE BATTERY CABLE AND LEAVING IT OFF 1 MINUTE, THEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE DOOR FUNCTION WAS RESTORED. ASIDE FROM NORMAL OPERATION BEING A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY, THE SYSTEM IS SUBJECT TO FAILURE THAT CAN BE A COSTLY VISIT TO A REPAIR SHOP OR DEALERSHIP. I HOPE LATER MODELS OF THE ODYSSEY HAVE AN IMPROVED SYSTEM IN PLACE.
SLIDING REAR DOORS FAIL TO OPEN OR CLOSE. ONE MUST REMOVE FUSE #13 TO RESET THE DOOR. IN THE EVEN OF AN ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY, PASSENGERS SITTING IN THE RE REAR SEATS COULD BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. DEALER REPAIR QUOTES ARE IN THE $400 - $600 RANGE. BUT THE REMOVAL OF A FUSE RESETS THE DOORS. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT HERE. THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS. *TR
2001 HONDA ODYSSEY: THE SLIDING SIDE DOORS INTERMITTENTLY STICK SHUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON, AND THEY WILL NOT OPEN UNTIL THEY DECIDE TO COOPERATE. THIS, TO MY MIND, IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AS PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT, AND EMT PERSONNEL WOULD BE GREATLY HINDERED IN EXTRACTING VICTIMS OF A CRASH. THIS CONDITION CAN AND DOES OBTAIN FOR DAYS AT A TIME UNTIL, SUDDENLY AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THE DOORS WILL START TO OPERATE NORMALLY. *TR
MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVANS POWER SLIDING DOORS STOPPED WORKING WHILE VISITING MY SISTER IN AURORA, COLORADO AROUND DEC. 26, 2009 BECAUSE IT SNOWED THERE OVERNIGHT. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW LOOKED UP IF THIS PROBLEM WAS MENTIONED ONLINE. THE PROBLEM WAS MENTIONED AND THEY SAID YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT A BATTERY CABLE THEN RECONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE SO IT WILL RESET THE ELECTRONICS FOR THE POWER SLIDING DOORS. SURE ENOUGH THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM AND THE SLIDING POWER DOORS STARTED WORKING AGAIN. WE WAITED FOR THE SUN TO COME OUT BEFORE DOING THIS. *TR
WE HAVE A 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY LX. THE POWER SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SUDDENLY QUIT WORKING AND WILL NO LONGER CLOSE PROPERLY. THE ONLY WAY WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT THE INCESSANT ALARM IS TO SHUT OFF THE POWER SLIDING DOOR FUNCTION AND TRY TO KEEP IT SHUT. THERE ARE SEVERAL POTENTIALLY BIG PROBLEMS WITH THIS. NUMBER ONE - THE KIDS CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR MANUALLY, IT IS TOO HEAVY FOR THEM. THE ONLY OPTION THEY HAVE TO EXIT THE CAR IS ON THE TRAFFIC SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DOOR WILL SUDDENLY BECOME AJAR WHEN WE ARE DRIVING, EVEN WITH THE LOCKS CLOSED, WHICH IS ALSO A HUGE SAFETY FACTOR. I HAVE TRIED TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED PROFESSIONALLY NUMEROUS TIMES AND I CANNOT GET A SATISFACTORY ANSWER TO WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN POWER SLIDING DOORS KEEP FAILING ESPECIALLY IN ICY CONDITIONS. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE HAD MY CHILDREN IN MY CAR WHEN THE DOORS FAILED TO OPERATE FULLY. I HAD TO CRAWL TO THE BACK THROUGH MY FRONT DOORS TO REACH MY VERY YOUNG CHILDREN TO PUT THEM IN AND OUT OF THEIR CAR SEATS. THEN I NEEDED TO DRIVE HOME IN ICY CONDITIONS WITH THE DOOR PARTIALLY OPEN NEXT TO ONE OF MY CHILDREN. IN ADDITION, ONE OF MY CHILDREN HAS A MEDICAL CONDITION THAT MAKES GETTING TO THEM AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE VERY IMPORTANT FOR THEIR SAFETY. THESE POWER DOORS ARE SIMPLY HAZARDOUS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO FIX THESE. FROM THE DISCUSSIONS ON OWNER FORUMS, THIS IS HAPPENING TO QUITE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THIS MODEL OF CAR ACROSS A WIDE RANGE OF YEARS. AFTER SPENDING A COUPLE OF HUNDRED DOLLARS WITH THE DEALER TO TRY TO FIX THIS, THE DEALER GAVE ME A NEW 'FIX'. I NEED TO REMOVE A FUSE FOR 30 SECONDS AND THEN REPLACE THE FUSE. THE DOORS NEEDS TO BE 'RESET' I.E. IT APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT IN A SENSOR RATHER THAN AN ACTUAL PHYSICAL PART NEEDING REPLACED. I HAVE REPLACED NEARLY EVERY PART OF ONE OF MY SLIDING DOORS AND STILL CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM AFTER IT HAS BEEN ICY. USUALLY MY HUSBAND CAN MANUALLY OPERATE THE DOOR AFTER THIS HAS HAPPENED, BUT I AM NOT AS STRONG AS HE IS AND I CANNOT FULLY OPEN OR CLOSE THE DOOR. RESETTING THE DOOR BY REMOVING THE FUSE FOR 30 SECONDS MAKES THE DOOR START WORKING AGAIN UNTIL THE NEXT OCCURRENCE. UNTIL RECENTLY, MY DEALER DID NOT TELL ME THE TRICK WITH THE FUSE SO WHEN THIS WOULD HAPPEN, I WOULD BE FORCED TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN HOME WITH THE DOOR PARTIALLY OPEN. *TR
I HAVE A HONDA ODYSSEY 2001. POWER SLIDING DOORS ALWAYS HAVE PROBLEMS. THIS BEGINS ABOUT ONE YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR. MY AIR CONDITIONER IN MY 2001 HONDA ODYSSEY STOPPED BLOWING COOL AIR, SO I TOOK MY VAN IN TO MY DEALERSHIP. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE SOMETHING SIMPLE. BUT, APPARENTLY A ROCK MUST HAD HIT MY CONDENSER AND CAUSED A LEAK. MY CONDENSER HAD TO BE REPLACED WHICH ENDED UP COSTING $750. THIS WAS A 5 HOUR JOB. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHER HONDA ODYSSEYS THAT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. *NM
