MOTOR MOUNTS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE FAILING PREMATURELY. I HAD TO REPLACE RIGHT ENGINE MOUNT AT 97750 MILES AND WAS JUST INFORMED BY A HONDA DEALERSHIP THAT THE FRONT ENGINE MOUNT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT 102500 MILES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING FOR 2 HRS, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO RATTLE AND BEGIN TO LOSE POWER ALMOST DRIVING ME IN TO A FATAL ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD THERE WAS TRANSMISSION FLUIDS ALL OVER THE TRANSMISSION. HONDA REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ON GOING PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *JS
2004 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH 135,000 MILES BEING DRIVEN ON INTERSTATE WHEN TRANSMISSION FAILED COMPLETELY WITH NO WARNING. WAS ABLE TO DRIFT OFF INTERSTATE AND ROLL TO A SAFE SPOT. I UNDERSTAND TRANSMISSION ISSUES/COMPLAINTS ARE HIGH ON THESE YEARS OF ODYSSEY'S. CURRENTLY BEING TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $3500. *JS
HAD NOTICED RECENTLY THAT WHEN SWITCHING GEARS THE VAN "JUMPED" AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SEEMED TO VIBRATE/SHAKE. THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER MUCH INVESTIGATION, THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS BEING WORKED ON IT WAS ALSO DISCOVERED THAT ALL OF THE MOUNTS HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE HAD BEEN FOLLOWED COMPLETELY SO THIS WAS A COMPLETE SHOCK -- AT LEAST UNTIL I STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH, SAW THE RECALL NOTICE OF OVER 1-MILLION HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSIONS (HOWEVER MY VIN # DIDN'T COME UP!) AND SAW JUST HOW MANY TRANSMISSION COMPLAINTS THERE WERE FROM OTHER OWNERS ALSO NOT PART OF THE RECALL. BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, I CHOSE MY RECOMMENDED LOCAL AAMCO SHOP TO DO THE REPAIRS. CALLED HONDA AND WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO "GOODWILL" CLAIM BECAUSE (A) THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT DO THE REPAIR AND (B) THE TRANSMISSION IS ONLY WARRANTIED BY HONDA FOR 36/36,000 (NO WONDER!!). HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP HAD TOLD ME THAT HONDA RARELY PROVIDES "GOODWILL" CLAIMS AND IF THEY DO, I'D BE LUCKY TO RECEIVE $400, SO CONSIDERING THE DEALERSHIP WAS OVER $2000 MORE FOR JUST THE TRANSMISSION WORK, I COULDN'T RISK HAVING THE DEALERSHIP DO THE REPAIR TO LATER FIND OUT THAT HONDA WOULD REJECT A "GOODWILL" CLAIM. *TR
SIDE AND FRONT MOTOR MOUNTS DISCOVERED TO HAVE FAILED AT 59852 MILES ON 2/19/09 AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW, 6/18/12, REAR (TRANSMISSION) MOUNT DISCOVERED TO HAVE FAILED AT 88000 MILES AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. NORMAL FAMILY DRIVING FOR VACATIONS AND AROUND TOWN ONLY. NO EXTREME CONDITIONS OR ROADS. *JS
WITH 130,000 MILES OUR 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. COMPLETE MAINTENANCE TO DATE. IN READING WE HAVE FOUND WEBSITES DEVOTED TO THIS PROBLEM, A CLASS ACTION SUIT IS FILED, YET NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE BY HONDA. ODYSSEYTRANSMISSION.COM SUGGESTED SUBMITTING THIS FORM TO ADD TO THE TOTAL COUNT. *TT
AT AROUND 80,000 COMPLAINED TO HONDA DEALER THAT MY VAN WAS ROUGHLY DOWNSHIFTING FROM 3RD TO 2ND GEARS. THEY JUST RECOMMENDED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND NEVER MENTIONED PREVIOUS RECALL AND TRANNY PROBLEMS. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WITH 39,000 MILES. WAS UNAWARE OF THE RECALL AND PROBLEMS WITH PRIOR MODEL YEARS. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 100,000 MILES AND MY TRANSMISSION DIED AT 112,560. I BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE AND WHEN I SHIFTED FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE MY VAN KEPT ROLLING BACKWARD. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE UNTIL IT DIED WHILE DRIVING IT WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE VAN IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TOWN. IT MANAGED TO SHIFT TO 2ND GEAR AND DRIVE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AT AROUND 45 MPH (I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SINCE I WAS IN TOWN AND THE SPEED LIMIT WHERE IT FAILED WAS 40MPH. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO HONDA AS THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT DRIVABLE ONCE IT WAS SHUT OFF AT MECHANIC. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT IS WRONG FOR HONDA TO NOT HAVE TO REPLACE THESE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS. I PAID HONDA OVER $3,000 FOR THIS REPLACEMENT. *TR
TWO SECTIONS OF PAINT STARTED PEELING OFF OF THE HOOD,ABOUTH THE SIZE OF SOFTBALLS. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE DARK BLUE HONDA ODYSSEYS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THRY ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE BUT SAID BECAUSE IT'S 9 YEARS OLD THEY WERENT OBLIGATED TO FIX IT. *TR ## VIN PASSED ## 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY ##
I PARKED MY CAR, REMOVED THE KEYS AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. ONCE OUTSIDE, THE CAR BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND I PUSHED AGAINST IT TO HOLD IT FROM ROLLING INTO THE CAR PARKED NEXT TO ME (THE FRONT WHEELS WERE TURNED). I RE-ENTERED THE CAR AND SHIFTED IT INTO PARK AND APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. *TR
THE AIRBAG FAULT LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATING RANDOMLY AT VEHICLE STARTUP FOR ABOUT THE PAST 12 MONTHS. I'M AFRAID THE SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND COULD RESULT IN UNWARRANTED AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, THE RPMS BEGAN TO INCREASE ABNORMALLY AND THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE BUT HE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO TELL WHERE THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM. THE SMOKING CEASED AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
WHILE ON A SALES TRIP 180 MILES FROM HOME--EXPERIENCED CHUGGING BETWEENS GEAR SHIFTS 1-2, AND STRONG SLIPPING BETWEEN 3 AND 4. DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE NEAREST HONDA DEALER. TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSED AS CLUTCH FAILURE FROM CODES BY HONDA DEALERSHIP MECHANIC, AFTER TEST DRIVING AND READING CODES. INDICATED IT IS STILL DRIVE-ABLE, IF ONE IS CAREFUL. LIMPED HOME WITH EXTREME CARE DURING ACCELERATION. DROVE APPROX. 50 MILES TO OH TURNPIKE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE OHIO TURNPIKE, EXPERIENCED QUICKLY DETERIORATING POWER DURING SLIGHT PROLONGED INCLINE-- WHICH LED TO COMPLETE, 100% FAILURE WITHIN 2-3 MILES. WAS LEFT STRANDED ON THE BERM TO BE TOWED HOME. *TT
WHILE DRIVING THE VAN ABOUT 65 MPH ON HIGHWAY, IT SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP, COULD NOT GET ANY POWER. CRUISED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. NOTICED FLUIDS LEAKING FROM ENGINE. HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, FRANK ANCONA HONDA, OLATHE KANSAS. TOLD THAT THE FRONT AND SIDE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN AND WAS CAUSING STRESS ON THE BACK MOTOR MOUNT, AND THAT THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHAKE AND THE VENT TUBE WAS SHAKEN OFF, DRAINED ALL TRANSMISSION FLUID. COST TO REPAIR THE MOTOR MOUNTS AND VENT TUBE WAS $860.31. TOLD BY REPAIRMAN THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA ODYSSEY'S WHEN THEY HIT AROUND THE 110,000 MILE MARK. AND THEY REPLACE THESE ALL THE TIME. SEEMS TO ME IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THEN THERE MUST BE A FLAW IN THE ENGINEERING AND HONDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO WHICH I FEEL HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS AND FIX. *TR
WHEN I PUT THE GEAR INTO DRIVE IT ACCELERATE PRETTY GOOD THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER IS GONE THEN I WILL HAVE TO STOP AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE, AGAIN I WILL RESTART AND THEN IT WILL ACCELERATE FOR COUPLE OF HUNDRED YARDS THEN AGAIN DOES THE SAME THING, I TRIED IT SEVERAL TIMES AND SAME RESULT. .I HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSH IN NORM REEVES HONDA IN WEST COVINA CALIFORNIA ON 7/23/ 2012 BUT DOES THE SAME THING..THE SERVICE CONSULTANT DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE TRANSMISSION AND GAVE AN ESTIMATE OF $4064.18. I DID NOT KNOW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2004 REGARDING TRANSMISSION GEAR FAILURE, I WAS NOT NOTIFIED THIS RECALL AND ONLY FOUND OUT NOW WHEN I RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR ANOTHER RECALL IN IGNITION SWITCH THEN I CHECKED ALL RECALLS IN THE INTERNET. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PLAN NON OPERATION SINCE 01/17/ 2013 UNTIL NOW .CAN I STILL HAVE IT FIXED BY THE DEALER? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS HE WAS ACCELERATING FROM A TRAFFIC STOP, A TRUCK CRASHED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHILE EXITING A PARKING AREA. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION NOR WAS THE MANUFACTURER MADE AWARE OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE118,000.
TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE. BOUGHT THE VAN USED IN 2006 WITH 25,000 MILES. THE VAN IS NOT USED FOR TOWING. DRIVEN MOSTLY AROUND TOWN AND ON LONG TRIPS. NOW WITH JUST 115000 MILES THE MECHANIC IS SAYING THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT. TODAY THE VAN REVVED AWKWARDLY HIGH DURING GEAR SHIFTS AND THEN THE GEAR SELECTOR BECAME NON-EFFECTIVE ONCE THE VEHICLE STOPPED. APPARENTLY THIS IS TYPICAL FOR THIS VEHICLE OF THIS AGE WHICH UNACCEPTABLE IN MY MIND FOR A HONDA. THE ESTIMATE IS FOR $4,500 TO REPAIR. *TR
VAN STARTED SHUTTERING AT LOW SPEEDS, 30-40 MPH AND BUCKING VIOLENTLY AT 40 MPH, SEEMS THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS. I CHECKED FOR A RECALL, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, MINE WAS NOT COVERED. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT LIFTED UP INDEPENDENTLY WHEN THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS WERE APPLIED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SEAT BRACKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I BOUGHT MY 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH LESS THAN 79K MILES. NOW WITH 107K MILES THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IS LEAKING . *TR
MY DAUGHTER, A SINGLE MOTHER, BOUGHT GOODYEAR VIVA 16X225/60R16 98T FROM WALMART ON 10-20-2011. ONE BLEW OUT THE SIDE WALL AND ANOTHER DEVELOPED A HOLE IN THE SIDEWALL AND HAD BULDGES ALL ALONG THE OUTER WALL. THE OTHER TWO HAVE POOR WEAR. THE TIRES ARE A BUNCH OF JUNK. WE NEED A TOTAL RECALL AND DESTRUCTION OF THE INFERIOR PRODUCT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY. *JS
BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY IN REVERSE THEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE THE ODYSSEY WOULD CONTINUE IN REVERSE. SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. SHIFTED INTO 2ND GEAR AND THE CAR STATED TO MOVE, SHIFTED AGAIN INTO DRIVE. STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS THE RPM'S WENT FLYING AND THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD. *TR
DROVE THE CAR IN THE MORNING AND PARKED IT...GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND DROVE IT AND NOTICED THE SHIFTER WAS LOOSE. I CHANGE THE ATF EVERY 30,000 MILES AS RECOMMENDED BY HONDA AND USED HONDA ATF. DRAINED AND REPLACED; NOT FLUSHED. TOOK THE CAR TO AN ATRA CERTIFIED SHOP TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFTER. THE SHOP SAID THAT EITHER THE SPRING ON THE DETENT BALL OR THE PIN HOLDING THE ROOSTER COMB ONTO THE MANUAL SHAFT IS BROKEN. RECOMMENDED THAT I STOP DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE OF SAFETY CONCERN. RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT WITH REBUILT TRANSMISSION. *TR
MY 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY EXPERIENCED AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN 2007 WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DOWNSHIFT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AT SPEED WHICH WOULD CAUSE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IF VEHICLE WERE BEHIND YOU OR IF YOU WERE DRIVING DOWN A SLICK OR SNOW COVERED ROADWAY. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME BY HONDA. ON FEB 6TH THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 35MPH. THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED TO FIRST GEAR AND WOULD NOT UP SHIFT. THE VAN WAS NOT ABLE TO GO ABOVE 20 MPH AND THERE WERE VEHICLES BEHIND OUR VEHICLE WHICH CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION DUE TO THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY DECELERATING. *TR
THIS IS THE 2ND TRANSMISSION THAT IS FAILED, HONDA HAS REFUSE TO PAY ANYTHING. THEY CLAIM THAT THERE TRANSMISSION HAS NO PROBLEM BUT AFTER GOOGLE I FIND THAT THEY HAVE A CLASS ACTION REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I WANT ASSISTANCE IN THIS PROBLEM I WILL NOT AFFORD ANOTHER $ 3000 TO FIX IT. THE FIRST TRANSMISSION FAILED AT ONLY 79000.00 MILES NOW THIS ONE FAILED ONLY 103093 MILES. *TR
SRS LIGHT COMES ON AND WOULD NOT COME OFF, DEALER REPLACED DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT RECEPTACLE. SRS LIGHT COME OFF FOR A WEEK THEN SRS LIGHT COMES ON AND WOULD NOT COME OFF. *TR
THERE WAS NO INCIDENT. MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE PAINT PEELING SIGNIFICANTLY ON MY NAVY BLUE MINIVAN. GOT AN ESTIMATE FOR OUT OF POCKET REPAINTING AND WAS QUOTED $800.00 JUST FOR THE HOOD. PAINT IS PEELING IN MORE PLACES. DECIDED TO CHECK ONLINE TO SEE IF THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND IT IS. I HAVE OWNED THE VAN FOR OVER 9 YEARS AND NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL OR REIMBURSEMENT FOR PAINT PEELING PROBLEM. *TT
TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. NO WARNING SIGNS. ONE SECOND MOVING JUST FINE, NEXT NOTHING. NO POWER.
DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE YESTERDAY, MY WIFE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT AND SIDE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN AND NEEDED REPLACED. THIS SEEMED ODD SINCE IT HAD NOT BEEN OBSERVED DURING PREVIOUS VISITS AND FOR THE MILES ON THE VEHICLE. AFTER GOING ON LINE, IT APPEARS THERE ARE MANY OTHERS HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AND THAT THIS IS A QUALITY ISSUE WITH HONDA. I ONLY HOPE THAT NOTHING SERIOUS HAPPENS TO ANY OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES INCLUDING MINE. *TT
TRANSMISSION QUIT WORKING, NO POWER, MECHANIC STATES THAT IT IS TOTALY SHOT & NEEDS REPLACEMENT, OR REBUILD. *TT
AUTO REPAIR SHOP INFORMED ME THAT TWO MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN. NOT REPAIRING THEM COULD RESULT IN THE ENGINE DROPPING AND PULLING RADIATOR DOWN WHICH WOULD BE DANGEROUS AND RESULT IN A MORE EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THEY INFORMED ME THAT MOTOR MOUNTS ARE NOT A MAINTENANCE ITEM, LIKE BELTS, FOR EXAMPLE. THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. THEY ALSO SAID THEY HAVE SEEN A LOT OF THIS EXACT PROBLEM IN THIS GENERATION HONDA ODYSSEY. FURTHER, THE PRICE OF THESE MOTOR MOUNTS IS VERY HIGH AND HAS NOT COME DOWN WHICH IS WHAT THEY WOULD EXPECT GIVEN THE FREQUENCY OF REPAIR AND AGE OF MODEL. I CALLED HONDA AMERICA WHICH TOLD ME THAT SINCE MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION START WORKING WRONG, WHEN THE AC COMPRESSOR STOPS SHOUTS DOWN, I DON'T KNOW WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM, NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AS WELL THE TCS LIGHT. THE VAN ACCELERATE BY IT SELF AND STOPS REALLY HARD, AND SOMETIMES STAYS IN 2ND GEAR OR 3TH GEAR. PLEASE I NEED HELP!!!! *TR
WHILE RETURNING FROM TEXAS TO ARKANSAS, MY TRANSMISSION HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE ON I-20 SOUTH OF DALLAS. THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO INDICATOR LIGHTS, NO SOUNDS. THE ENGINE TACH REDLINED AND I WAS ABLE TO CROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER WHATSOEVER. THE CAR BEGAN SMOKING FROM HOT TRANSMISSION FLUID. WHEN I STOPPED, I NOTICED FLUID COVERING THE INSIDE OF THE FRONT WHEEL WELLS. I HAD IT TOWED TO A NEARBY HONDA DEALER AND WAS TOLD I HAD A TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THERE WERE NO COMPUTER CODES RECORDED BY THE VANS COMPUTER. MY BILL TO HAVE IT REPLACED WAS $4,200.00. I ALSO HAD TO PAY FOR A TOW, A RENTAL CAR TO RETURN TO LITTLE ROCK AND AN AIRLINE TICKET TO RETURN TO DALLAS TO RECOVER MY VAN. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW BY ME AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY HONDA. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILURE BEGAN WITH WHINING NOISE. TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND TRANNY OIL CHANGE. THEY REPORTED BACK THAT THE TRANNY WAS FAILING. THE OIL CHANGE ONLY MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE. TCS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SLIPPING, REVVING WITH NO MOVEMENT AT A STOP. I ENDED UP HAVING VEHICLE TOWED TO A SHOP AND THE TRANNY WAS REBUILT. VIN NOT AVAILABLE: CAR CURRENTLY IN SERVICE ON MONDAY, 12/19/2011, THE ODYSSEY ACCELERATED EVEN AFTER APPLYING BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. HAD TO PULL INTO SERVICE SHOP AND DRIVE UNTIL THE CAR COULD BE SAFELY PLACED IN PARK, AND HAD TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. WAS TOLD THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (PART #047211) WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED FROM HONDA AND REPLACED. THE CAR WAS AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP ON TUESDAY 12/20/2011. ON WEDNESDAY, 12/21/2011, WHILE TRAVELING EAST ON THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AGAIN ABOVE THE SPEED LIMIT WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE GAS. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKES. I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INTO A SERVICE STATION. CONTINUED TO DRIVE AROUND PARKING LOT UNTIL I COULD PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND, AGAIN, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. EVEN WHEN CAR WAS TURNED BACK ON THE ENGINE ACCELERATED. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A CERTIFIED HONDA REPAIR SHOP IN YORKVILLE, N.Y. BEING EVALUATED. THEY ARE TELLING US THEY WILL NEED TO CHECK ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS ON THE VEHICLE (DUE TO BEING IN AN ACCIDENT IN 2009, BUT WAS RECONDITIONED IN 2010 BY ANOTHER HONDA DEALER), ALSO WILL CHECK CABLE BETWEEN THROTTLE BODY AND GAS. STILL WAITING TO HEAR IF ANYTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED. THIS CAR IS THE MAIN CAR FOR OUR HOUSEHOLD WHICH INCLUDES 4-YEAR-OLD TRIPLETS (ONE HAS SPECIAL NEEDS). WHILE DRIVING 35MPH ON A CITY BRIDGE, THE ENGINE LOST POWER, THEN REVVED. THE SYMPTOMS REPEATED THE NEXT DAY. MY WIFE WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VAN WHEN THE PROBLEMS OCCURRED. WE TOOK THE VAN TO OUR HONDA DEALERSHIP AND WERE INFORMED THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. OUR 2004 ODYSSEY HAS HAD ALL REQUIRED FACTORY MAINTENANCE PERFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP WE PURCHASED IT FROM. AT 95,000 MILES WE HAD THE RECOMMENDED 105,000 MILE SERVICE TO INCLUDE A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND INSPECTION. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THE SERVICE AND THE SERVICE SHOWED OUR VAN WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. HONDA WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, I WAS TOLD BY HONDA OF AMERICA THAT TRANSMISSION SERVICE LIFE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000 MILES. NOTHING IN THE OWNERS MANUAL INDICATES THAT. AFTER PAYING $1000 FOR THE SERVICE WE ARE NOW FACED WITH A $6300 BILL FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. GIVEN THE PRICE OF THE VAN AND ROUTINE SERVICE, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, AS IS THE SAFETY CONCERNS FOR A TRANSMISSION CATASTROPHICALLY FAILING JUST AFTER A SERVICE AND INSPECTION PRODUCED NOTHING BUT A VAN IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. *TR

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME LATE AT NIGHT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT COME ON IN HER 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE VAN BEGINS TO SLOW DOWN UNTIL IT WILL GO NO FASTER THAN 5 MPH. PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHE TURNED OFF THE VAN THEN RESTARTED IT. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE LAST FEW MILES BACK TO OUR HOUSE LUCKILY, AND WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A SHOP JUST UP THE STREET SINCE IT COULD NOT MAKE IT MUCH FURTHER. IT TURNS OUT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE SHOP CALLED HONDA, KNOWING THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE 2004 ODYSSEY TRANSMISSIONS, BUT HONDA CLAIMED THAT IT DID THE WORK FOR THE RECALL AND HAD NO FURTHER RESPONSIBILITY. I AM EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED WITH THIS. TO KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH A TRANSMISSION, "FIX" IT WITH A RECALL, AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT ON A VEHICLE WITH UNDER 100,000 MILES IS UNACCEPTABLE. I'VE OWNED HONDAS IN THE PAST AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. MATTER OF FACT, I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS WITH ANY CAR I'VE OWNED, NO MATTER THE MANUFACTURER. INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS TRANSMISSION FAILURES VERY COMMON WITH MANY ODYSSEY OWNERS HAVING TO GO THROUGH MULTIPLE POWER TRAINS WITH NO ADMISSION OF DESIGN FLAWS FOR SUCH PREMATURE TRANSMISSION FAILURES BY HONDA. *TR
OUR 2004 ODYSSEY WENT IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE TODAY AND THE TECHNICIAN REPORTED BOTH A FRONT AND A REAR MOTOR MOUNT WAS BAD. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 80,000 MILES AND IS USED FOR HAULING KIDS AND GETTING GROCERIES, NOT EXTREME DRIVING AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE EXCESSIVE VIBRATION, DAMAGE THE TRANSMISSION, AND CAUSE HOSES AND WIRES TO COME LOSE. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE EXPECTED LIFE OF SUCH AN ESSENTIAL PART CANNOT POSSIBLY BE LESS THAN 150,000 MILES. IT IS NOT A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PROBLEM, IT IS NOT A CONSUMABLE PART LIKE BRAKES AND HOSES, AND IT'S NOT A MOVING PART LIKE THE TRANSMISSION OR A PULLEY. I WOULD EXPECT THE TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE TO FAIL LONG BEFORE THE PARTS HOLDING THE VAN TOGETHER TO START FAILING, ESPECIALLY THE MOUNTS HOLDING THE ENGINE.
