MY 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING BETWEEN 2ND-3RD GEARS. TCS, CK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON, AND STUCK IN 2ND GEAR. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER SECOND DAY AND DIAGNOSED IT AS TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY FAILED. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED, BEFORE I COULD PULL OVER TO THE SIDE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. AFTER DIAGNOSTICS, THE MECHANIC NOTICED BROKEN GEARS IN THE TRANSMISSION AND STATED THAT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 179,000.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON; HONDA DEALER TALKS ABOUT TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND ASKING IT TO BE REPLACED. REPLACEMENT COST: $6500 I HEARD THAT MANY OTHER HONDA ODYSSEY OWNERS COMPLAINTS ABOUT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND IT HAS TO BE ADDRESSED THAT HONDA ODYSSEY VAN IS HAVING CRITICAL TRANSMISSION ISSUE BUILT BETWEEN YEAR 1999 TO 2004. TRANSMISSION BECAME DEFECTIVE WITH NO REASON, SO MUCH FRUSTRATED AS VEHICLE HAS HARDLY DONE 100K MILES. *TR
WAS DRIVING MY "2004 HONDA ODYSSEY" . I STARTED LOOSING SPEED CONTROL.AT TIMES IT FAILED TO START AFTER STOPPING. AND AGAIN THE SAME THING..... AND NOW I HEAR CLICKING AND CLICKING AND THAN MY CAR JUST COMES TO A SCREECHING STOP..... I SEE MY ENGINE LIGHT ON AND I SEE MY TCS LIGHT COME ON. I REACHED AUTO REPAIRER NEARBY.COST ME $ 566 BUT FAILED AGAIN WITHIN ONE HOUR AND NOW ADVISES TO REPLACE POWER TRAIN AT $3500 ADDITIONALLY???? MY CERTIFIED ADDITIONAL COVERAGE IS 100000 MILES OR 7 YEARS WHICH EXPIRED ON 08/05/2011. TIME-LIMIT OF 7 YEARS WITH THE GUARANTEE IS UNFAVORABLE TO DRIVERS WITH LESS MILEAGE. I AM UNEMPLOYED. ROUGHLY 3 WEEKS AGO WHEN PUTTING THE VAN INTO D IT WOULD HESITATE BEFORE ENGAGING. THE DELAY BECAME GREATER AND THEN IT STARTED SLIPPING BETWEEN 2ND & THIRD GEARS. THREE DAYS AGO THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY DISENGAGED WHILE DRIVING. I TURNED THE VAN OFF, STARTED IT AGAIN & IT DROVE FOR NEARLY .5 MILES ONLY TO STOP AGAIN. AT THIS POINT I HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION & HAVE FOUND A LITANY OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE FAULTY HONDA TRANSMISSION. *TR
TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND A HARD SHIFT BETWEEN GEARS 2ND TO THIRD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE SHIFT LIGHT ON D STARTED FLASHING AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WITH THE VEHICLE COMING TO A STOP. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE TRANSMISSION CLINIC 3875 INTERPARK DRIVE, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. 80907. UNDER A HONDA RECALL ID# 48576, I TRIED TO GET SOME COMPENSATION FOR THE $3,897.40 REPAIR OF A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO. INC. NEVER SENT ME A RECALL NOTICE EVEN THOUGHT I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW FROM THEM AND I NEVER CHANGED MY ADDRESS. HONDA SHOULD HAVE SENT ME A RECALL NOTICE OR CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION WHEN I HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGES. I HAVE WRITTEN TWO LETTERS TO AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO. INC. AND RECEIVED A CASE # N012013-01-21-02021 AND TALKED WITH A BRIDGET 1-800-999-1009 EXT. 117730. SHE SAYS SENSE I DID NOT HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE BY HONDA, THEY WILL NOT COMPENSATE ME FOR ANYTHING. SHE REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE RECALL NOTICE THAT I NEVER RECEIVED.
TRANSMISSION SYSTEM FAILED AT 90,000 MILES. I HAVE DONE ALL SERVICES AT REGULAR INTERVALS AND ALL MAJOR SERVICES FROM THE DEALER. JUST BEFORE THIS BREAKDOWN, I HAD MY 90K MILE SERVICE DONE AT THE DEALER AND EVERYTHING WAS REPORTED FINE. *TR

THE MIDNIGHT BLUE PAINT IS PEELING. I DID NOT RECEIVE NOTICE OF HONDA'S 2008 RECALL OF THIS PROBLEM. WHEN AN INDEPENDENT CAR REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME OF THE PROBLEM IN 2012 I THEN WENT TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. HONDA SAID THAT IT WAS PAST THE WINDOW OF TIME IN WHICH HONDA WOULD RESTORE THE PAINT JOB AT THEIR EXPENSE. I TOLD THEM THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE. THEY DID NOT CARE. *TR
HONDA ODYSSEY HAS TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THEY HAD A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST THEM AND I HAD THE APPROPRIATE WARRANTY WORK DONE ON IT. IT HAS NOW GONE COMPLETELY OUT. I'M UNDER ON THE MILEAGE FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WORK, BUT OVER ON THE AGE. IF YOU LOOK ON THE INTERNET, THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. HONDA EITHER DIDN'T FIX THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES OR CREATED NEW ONES WITH THE RECALL. NOW THE FIX IS A $5000 ONE. HONDA SHOULD BE LIABLE TO FIX THIS OR A LARGE PART OF IT. *TR
BEGINNING AROUND NOV. 23, 2012, AIR BAG LIGHT ON DASHBOARD STAYED ON AFTER ITS INITIAL TEST (BLINK ON AND THEN OFF) ONCE IGNITION TURNED ON AND ENGINE RUNNING. OVER NEXT APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTHS, LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY COME ON AFTER TEST AND THEN STAY ON WHILE ENGINE RUNNING. SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE MORE WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS WARM RATHER THAN COLD. HOWEVER, WITHIN THE PAST APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH (SINCE MAY 2013), LIGHT HAS BEEN STAYING ON CONSTANTLY AFTER INITIAL TEST AND IGNITION TURNED ON. VEHICLE HAS BEEN OPERATING NORMALLY OTHERWISE. I'VE CHECKED ALL SEATBELT CONNECTIONS AND FUSES AND NOTHING ABNORMAL FOUND. NO OTHER DASHBOARD LIGHTS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS, NOR HAVE THERE BEEN ANY ELECTRICAL OR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE, SO PROBLEM IS ISOLATED TO AIRBAG SYSTEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON ROUTE 17 IN BERGEN COUNTY, MY TCS LIGHT CAME ON. I NOTICED THAT MY TACHOMETER WAS ELEVATED WITHOUT ANY INCREASE IN SPEED. I HAD NO FORWARD MOTION AND HAD TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER, NUMEROUS TRUCKS AND CARS WERE PASSING BY VERY CLOSE AND THE VAN WAS SHAKEN AS THEY WENT BY. I TRIED TURNING OFF AND STARTING THE VAN TO SEE IF I COULD SHIFT ANY GEARS WHEN RESET, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. I NEEDED TO CALL 911 FOR AN OFFICER TO GET A TOW TRUCK FOR ME. I WAS VERY HAPPY TO HAVE HIS LIGHTS AND PRESENCE AS THE ROAD WAS DARK AND HEAVILY TRAFFICKED. I WAS TOWED AND INFORMED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, THIS SITUATION WAS DANGEROUS AND AFTER RESEARCHING REALIZED THAT THE ODYSSEY HAS A HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM!! THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED SO OTHERS WILL NOT BE PUT IN DANGER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN SHE APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND WAS UNRESPONSIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE CABLE WAS FRACTURED WITH NO SIGNS OF WEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING OUT OF THIRD, FOURTH AND FIFTH GEARS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID BUT IT DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER THEN ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
CAR STOPPED GOING INTO GEAR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON D STARTED FLASHING AND TCS LIGHT CAME ON CAR WOULD KEEP HESITATING INTO GEAR AND FINALLY JUST WOULD NOT MOVE. TYPICAL PROBLEM FOR HONDA ODYSSEY AS I JUST FOUND OUT BY CLASS ACTION SUIT AND MANY COMPLAINTS ON LINE. BUT WHEN I CALL HONDA THEY SAY THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RECALLED FOR ANY TRANSMISSION DEFECTS. PICTURE THAT IT IS AMAZING HOW MANY PROBLEMS THEY HAVE HAD AND CONTINUE TO HAVE BUT THEY DO A GOOD JOB KEEPING IT QUIET. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM SURE EXPENSIVE PROBLEM FOR THEM THAT IS WHY THEY WONT ADMIT TO ANY DEFECTS. SINCE THIS IS COSTING ME 3500 TO GET A JASPER TRANSMISSION WITH 3 YEAR WARRANTY. WILL NOT BUY A HONDA AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION WITHOUT THE VEHICLE BEING SECURED IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE WHEN THE KEY WAS REMOVED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE UNTIL SHE ATTEMPTED TO RETRIEVE SOMETHING FROM THE TRUNK AND NOTICED THAT SHE WAS PUSHING THE VEHICLE FORWARD WITHOUT MUCH FORCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
TWO ENGINE MOUNTS ARE FAILING DESPITE THE RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE ON THE VAN. I'VE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT SUFFERED FROM SUCH A POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WITH THIS MANY MILES ON IT. *TR
THE BACK SEAT BELT GOT TWISTED AROUND MY 14 YEAR OLD'S WAIST AND WOULD NOT LOOSEN. SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO GET OUT AND COULD NOT BREATHE, AS THE SEAT BELT WOULD ONLY TIGHTEN EVERY TIME SHE TRIED TO SQUEEZE OUT. WE MADE AN EMERGENCY STOP AT A GAS STATION AND HAD TO CUT THE SEAT BELT OFF OF HER. THIS WAS THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH THE SAME VAN BUT THE OTHER SEATBELT. MY 10 YEAR-OLD ALSO GOT STUCK ONCE BEFORE BUT SINCE HE WAS SMALLER, I WAS ABLE TO HELP HIM TWIST AROUND AND SQUEEZE OUT. *TR
I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY WITHOUT PUTTING THE VEHICLE GEAR ON PARK AND WENT FOR A MOVIE WITH FAMILY. AFTER WATCHING MOVIE, I CAME BACK, I PUT THE KEY AND TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE, IT DIDN'T START. I COULDN'T REALIZE THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN PARK, IT WAS LATE NIGHT, MYSELF AND MY FAMILY WAS LEFT ALONE TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE, IT WAS VERY SCARY, AND LATER REALIZED AND STARTED THE VEHICLE AFTER PUTTING IT TO PARK. *TR
VEHICLE WENT FROM 40 MPH TO LESS THAN 20 MPH AND WOULD NOT GO FASTER . ANY ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE ONLY REVVED ENGINE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED...WAS INOPERABLE,AND ONLY OPTION WAS REPLACEMENT NOT REBUILDING. *TR VEHICLE MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS
WHILE HEADING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MILES AN HOUR THE TRANSMISSION JUST WENT AWAY. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I FOUND OUT THAT HONDA HAS HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS DOING JUST THAT AND SAY THEY HAVE FIXED IT. HOWEVER, IN MY OPINION IT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. AS I WAS SITTING ALONG THE HIGHWAY WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK AS SEMI AFTER SEMI WENT PAST SHAKING MY VAN, I THINK THEY SHOULD TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT THE ISSUE. DROVE THE CAR ABOUT 20 YARDS, THEN PLACED IT IN PARK TO ALLOW THE REAR VAN DOORS TO OPEN FOR OUR CHILDREN. WHEN THE KIDS GOT IN, I PLACED THE SHIFT LEVER IN DRIVE. IMMEDIATELY, BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED VIOLENTLY. I WAS NOT IN MOTION, WAS NOT STRUCK BY ANY OTHER VEHICLE OR OBJECT, AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. AN OFF-DUTY POLICE OFFICER WAS PARKED RIGHT BEHIND ME SAW THIS AND CAME TO HELP. HE NOTED THAT THE AIRBAG FIRING MECHANISMS CONTINUED TO FIRE. "I'VE SEEN A LOT OF WRECKS" HE SAID "BUT I'VE NEVER SEEN THE AIRBAGS CONTINUE TO FIRE. THE HORN CONTINUED TO BEEP. SHE SUSTAINED POWDER BURNS ON BOTH ARMS, AND WAS, OF COURSE SHOCKED BY THE SURPRISE. IT WAS RAINING AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN FURTHER. I HAD MINOR POWDER BURNS ON MY ARMS, AND OUR EARS WERE RINGING FROM THE LOUD EXPLOSIONS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODDYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHIFT LEVER BECAME VERY LOOSE AND AS A RESULT, IT WOULD SHIFT GEARS WITH THE SLIGHTEST TOUCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE PART INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
SECOND OWNER. TRANSMISSION REPLACED BY HONDA IN 2006 AT 55,000 MILES FOR NOTED GEAR OVERHEATING RECALL IN SARASOTA, FL. CURRENT MILEAGE IS LESS THAN 90,000 MILES LATER. TRANSMISSION REGULAR MAINTENANCE COMPLETED AND A FIRMWARE UPDATE WAS DONE IN 2009 AT 120,000 (65,000 ON NEW TRANNY) MILES. TRANSMISSION NOW DOWNSHIFTS VERY HARD (HARD SHIFT) FROM 3-2 WHEN COASTING DOWNHILL OR IF THE BRAKE IS SLIGHTLY APPLIED WHEN COASTING DOWNHILL. HONDA TECHNICIANS STATED NORMAL OPERATION TO ALLOW FOR ENGINE BRAKING. NEW FIRMWARE CAUSED THE CHANGE. Q4 2012 TRANSMISSION NOW SHIFTS FROM 1-2 IN ABOUT 3 SECONDS, NOT SLIPPING, BUT TAKING A LONG TIME TO SHIFT AND PREVENTS ACCELERATION DURING THIS DELAY. COULD PREVENT ACCIDENT AVOIDANCE WITH LONG DELAY. HONDA TECHNICIAN STATES NORMAL OPERATION AND INCLUDED IN FIRMWARE TO REDUCE DAMAGE DUE TO RECALL. NOTE THESE ISSUES ARE ON THE SUPPOSEDLY "FIXED" TRANSMISSION. SERIES OF DATA SUGGESTS THAT THE RECALL REPAIR DID NOT SOLVE TRANSMISSION FAILURE PROBLEM, BUT WAS A BAND-AID IN COMBINATION WITH FIRWARE UPDATES TO "BUFFER" 2ND GEAR MANUFACTURING DEFECTS. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE TRANSMISSION WILL SURVIVE TO 100K MILES, BUT HAS RECEIVED EXCELLENT CARE AND REPAIRS. SAFETY ISSUE IS THE INABILITY TO ACCELERATE DURING 1-2 SHIFT DELAY AND UNEXPECTED ENGINE BRAKING DURING DOWNHILL COASTING WHICH COULD TRIGGER REAR-END ACCIDENTS (NOTE NO BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN IT OCCURS). I BELIEVE IN HONDA AND THEY SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND PROVIDE LIFETIME TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS DUE TO THE SAFETY CONCERNS WITH THEIR PRODUCTS THAT ARE WELL-KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME UP RIGHT AFTER A RECENT REFUEL AND WE PULLED THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE AND CHECKED THE MANUAL. WE TIGHTENED THE FUEL CAP BUT THE LIGHT DID NOT GO AWAY. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO GET IT CHECKED UP. UPON DIAGNOSIS THE DEAL TOLD US THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS GONE BAD AND NEEDS A TOTAL TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM TWO OTHER AUTO REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY CONFIRMED WHAT DEALER SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS GONE BAD AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. *TR
ORIGINATING IN PORTLAND, OR TO L.A., CALIFORNIA, OUR VACATION WAS ABRUPTLY INTERRUPTED 30 MILES NORTH OF BAKERSFIELD WITH SOME SMOKE COMING OUT OF OUR ENGINE. WE DECIDED TO PULL OVER FOR SAFETY AND UPON DISEMBARKING NOTICED FROM FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE DRIVER SIDE AREA OF THE ENGINE. WE WERE TOWED TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP IN BAKERSFIELD AND AFTER SPENDING THE NIGHT CAME BACK THE NEXT MORNING TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRANSMISSION ON MY 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS OUT OF COMMISSION AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER OF HONDA SINCE THE 80'S, AS MY OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS, AND NEVER HAD WE EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF CATASTROPHIC EVENT(HAVING TO PAY $4000.00 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION) DURING OUR FAMILY VACATION. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VAN AND (FROM 2004), I NEVER HAVE I RECEIVED ANY RECALL OR COMMUNICATION FROM THE HONDA CORPORATION ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION. I ALWAYS CHANGED MY FLUIDS AND HAD IT MAINTAINED. IF I WOULD'VE KNOWN ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE, I PROBABLY WOULD'VE AVOIDED USING IT FOR SUCH AS LONG JOURNEY. I CONTACTED THE HONDA CORPORATION OFFICE IN CALIFORNIA BUT THEY DISREGARDED IT AS JUST A MISFORTUNE. I ASKED FOR REIMBURSEMENT OR SOME TYPE OF REIMBURSEMENT BUT THEY DENIED MY PLEAD. *TR
TOOK THE VAN TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER FOR A ROUTINE BRAKE FLUID AND BRAKE ROTOR REPLACEMENT. WHILE WORKING ON THAT THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE TWO FRONT ENGINE MOUNTS WERE DAMAGED. THESE ARE NOT LISTED BY HONDA AS THE ROUTINE MAINTANANCE ITEMS. BUT FAILURE OF THESE WOULD CAUSE CERTAIN DAMAGE. APPARENTLY IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH HONDAY ODYSSEYS BUT HONDA HAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILED PART. *TR
DURING THE SUMMER OF 2012 I WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT FACING THE SUN. WHEN I STARTED MY CAR THE SRS (AIR BAG WARNING) LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AS I DROVE THE 3 MILES TO MY HOME THE LIGHT STAYED ON. WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS THE SAME THING HAPPENED ABOUT TWO TIMES. IT HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE THEN. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MY HONDA DEALER MECHANIC CHECKED THE CAR AND INDICATED THAT NO CODES APPEARED IN THE CAR'S COMPUTER SYSTEM TO INDICATE THAT THE SRS LIGHT EVER CAME ON. *TR

THE RECENT TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL IS A REGIONAL RECALL AND DOES NOT INCLUDE VIRGINIA. HOWEVER, ONE OF THE FATALITIES CAUSED BY THIS DEFECT OCCURRED IN VIRGINIA IN DECEMBER. SO HOT AND HUMID WEATHER IS NOT THE ONLY CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG DEFECT. I BELIEVE MY HONDA ODYSSEY'S AIR BAGS ARE DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE USING CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70 MPH AND THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING. I TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SAW SMOKE BEHIND ME. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. WE HAD TRAVELED 70 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED IN 70 DEGREE WEATHER. I HAD IT TOWED AND WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ($4,000), AND THAT THEY SAW METAL CHIPS FROM THE GEARS CHIPPING. I HAD NO PRIOR WARNING SIGNS, NO SLIPPING OF GEARS, NO DASH LIGHTS LIT. THERE WERE 3 OTHER PASSENGERS, INCLUDING 2 SMALL CHILDREN. *TR
ON FRIDAY 8/10/2012, WHEN I WAS DRIVING AT 35MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT BOTH CAME UP, THEN AT THE STOP LIGHT WHEN THE RED TURNED GREEN, THE CAR WON'T ACCELERATE MUCH AS I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL, IT GOES VERY SLOW BUT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING 4-5K RPM. IT WEN BACK TO NORMAL DRIVING FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS BUT THE CEL LIGHT IS STILL ON SO I DECIDE TO GO THE DEALER (KINGS HONDA IN CINCINNATI, OH) ON MODAY 8/14/2012 BUT IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN ON THE ROAD, I HAD TO STOP THE ENGINE BECUASE IT WON'T MOVE AND RESTART A FEW TIME IN ORDER TO DRIVE THERE (TOTAL ABOUT 4 MILES). AFTER THE DEALER CHECKED IT, THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I HAVE NEVER EXPECTED THE HONDA TRANSMISSION WILL GO BAD AT THIS STAGE. *TR

DEALER SERVICE CENTER SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR/MAKE/MODEL AND WAS A REAL RISK TO OUR SAFETY IF WE DIDN'T GET IT FIXED. IF IT IS SUCH A RISK, WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL? VEHICLE FAILED SAFETY INSPECTION TODAY BECAUSE 3 ENGINE MOUNTS ARE BROKEN. THEY WERE NOT BROKEN AT LAST YEARS SAFETY INSPECTION, NOR AT SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE 6 MONTHS AGO. MECHANIC INDICATED HE SEES THIS FREQUENTLY ON HONDA ODYSSEY. *TR

CAR KEY WOULD NOT TURN THE IGNITION...IT WOULD LOCK UP AND A FEW MINUTES LATER WORK. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE IGNITION LOCK ASSEMBLY AND NOW HAVE A DIFFERENT KEYS TO START THE CAR THEN THE CAR DOORS. THE COST OF THE NEW IGNITION LOCK WAS $402.03. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE USING CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70 MPH THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT WHEN THERE WAS A SUBTLE CLUNK LIKE I HIT A SMALL BUMP AND THEN THE ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS OUT OF GEAR, IT WAS REVVING AND SLOWING DOWN. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND WHEN I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR THERE WAS A LONG TRAIL OF SMOKE BEHIND ME. I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY.THIS IS MISSOURI HIGHWAY 70, HEAVILY TRAVELED BY SEMIS. WE HAD TRAVELED 70 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED IN 95 DEGREE WEATHER. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS INDEED THE TRANSMISSION AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED AT APPROXIMATELY $4,000. I HAD NO PRIOR WARNING SIGNS, NO SLIPPING OF GEARS, NO DASH LIGHTS LIT, JUST A SLIGHT CLUNK AND NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. *TR
2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ON JULY 27, 2012, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY HAD IT CHECKED IT OUT, WHERE THEY DISCOVERED A POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS, THE 2004 MODEL WAS KNOWN TO HAVE A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION FAN THAT DID NOT COOL DOWN THE TRANSMISSION EFFECTIVELY. THE FAILURE WAS DUE LARGELY TO THE TRANSMISSION FAN BEING TOO SMALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE, HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

TYPICALLY HAPPENS WHEN WE PULL INTO A PARKING PLACE OR DRIVEWAY. DEPENDING ON VEHICLE ORIENTATION, CAR WILL START TO ROLL IF WE DO NOT ENGAGE PARKING BRAKE. SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS, FORTUNATELY NO ROLL-AWAYS, ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES. NOW HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE KEY FITTING INTO THE IGNITION AND STARTING THE VEHICLE.
