AC WENT OUT IN 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP ASSUMING WOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. WAS TOLD A ROCK HIT THE CONDENSER AND WOULD COST $800 FOR REPAIR, NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. *TR
WE OWN A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY AND A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY'S AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING. WE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WERE INFORMED THAT IT WAS A HOLE IN OUR A/C CONDENSER. WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD BE AROUND $700 TO REPAIR AND WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. I DISCOVERED THAT THE A/C CONDENSER IS EXPOSED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BUMPER IN THE OPENING OF THE BUMPER. I PROCEEDED TO TELL THE DEALER THAT THIS IS A DESIGN ISSUE AND SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA BECAUSE THAT IS OUT OF THEIR HANDS. I CONTACTED HONDA AND AFTER TWO AND HALF WEEKS THEY RESPONDED BACK BY SAYING THIS IS A GOODWILL AND THEY WILL COVER AT HALF AT THE WARRANTY RATE. I AGREED AFTER SUFFERING THRU 3 WEEKS OF NO A/C IN THE DEAD OF HEAT. I STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH BECAUSE MY CONCERN STAYED THE SAME, THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. TO MY SURPRISE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MOST LATER MODEL HONDA'S. THE DESIGN MUST BE SIMILAR IN ALL OF THE MODELS, BECAUSE THE CR-V, ODYSSEY, CIVIC, ACCORD AND SO ON ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. HONDA NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND PUT A FIX TO THE GRILLS SO THE CONDENSERS ARE BETTER PROTECTED. IT APPEARS EVERYONE IS GETTING THE SAME STORY FROM HONDA AND WHEN YOU CALL THEY ACT LIKE YOU ARE THE FIRST TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN, WHEN IN FACT IT IS BECOMING A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM AND COSTING CONSUMER MAJOR DOLLARS. THIS IS MY THIRD HONDA AND PROBABLY MY LAST AFTER THE WAY THE WHOLE SITUATION IS GOING DOWN. HONDA IS STICKING THEIR HEAD IN THE SAND AND HOPING TO RIDE THE STORM OUT. IT APPEARS ALSO THAT DEALERSHIPS HAVE BEEN REHEARSED ON WHAT TO TELL CONSUMERS, BECAUSE IT IS A COMMON THEME WHEN YOU READ OTHER COMPLAINTS. *JB
PURCHASED 2006 ODYSSEY TOURING EDITION NEW IN FEBRUARY 2006. AT ABOUT 10,000 MILES STARTED HEARING INTERMITTENT GRINDING NOISE AND FEELING STEERING WHEEL VIBRATE WHILE BRAKING. VEHICLE TAKEN TO HONDA DEALERS THREE TIMES. FIRST TWO TIMES DEALER STATED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AT 30,472 MILES. AND THE DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH WARPED ROTORS, AND THAT I COULD PAY TO HAVE THEM MACHINED SMOOTH. TOOK CAR TO DIFFERENT DEALER AT 33,691 MILES. THEY REPLACED FRONT PADS AND MACHINED ROTORS UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO SERVICE BULLETIN BEING ISSUED FOR BRAKE NOISE. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD BLOW, BUT THE AIR WAS NOT COLD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE AIR CONDENSER. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 20,000.
OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EX WAS BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE AND WE REQUESTED THE TECHNICIAN LISTEN TO A WHIRRING NOISE AND DIFFICULTY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. WE WERE INFORMED THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH WE FOUND THIS WAS LISTED AS A KNOW DEFECT IN THE 2006 AND ONLY A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN WAS PROVIDED (07-005 ISSUED 1/27/2009). THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN DEFECT IN THIS MODEL YEAR FOR THIS MAKE OF AUTOMOBILE. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE PART IN REAR MOTOR MOUNTS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. INSTEAD OF CORRECTING THE PROBLEM THEY WERE PASSING THE COST TO THE CONSUMER. THE CONSUMER STATED HE STARTED COMPLAINING ABOUT THE VIBRATION PROBLEM IN JULY 2007. DESPITESEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP, WITHOUT FULLY GETTING THE PROBLEM RESOLVED THE REAR MOTOR MOUNTS WERE NEVER LOOKED AT UNTIL THE VAN WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER WAS THEN INFORMED IT WOULD COST $1000 TO REPAIR A PROBLEM THAT HONDA WAS WELL AWARE OF. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED HE WAS CHARGED $26.00 TO UN-TWIST THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT. THE DEALER STATED SEAT BELT DON'T TWIST BY THEMSELVES. TWO WEEKS LATER, AFTER LIMITED USE OF THE SET BELT, IT TWISTED AGAIN. *JB THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 10/04/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 45-65 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE VIBRATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT WARPED ROTORS CAUSED THE FAILURE AND THEY REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS. APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. AS OF NOVEMBER 20, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
AIR CONDITIONING ON THE 2006 ODYSSEY STOPPED WORKING AFTER 10 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. WE WERE TOLD THAT DEBRIS HAD HIT THE CONDENSER AND CAUSED A LEAK. SINCE THIS WAS NOT CONSIDERED A DEFECT IN THE PART IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, IT APPEARED WE WERE NOT THE ONLY 05/06 ODYSSEY OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS SEEMED TO BE A DESIGN/ENGINEERING FLAW THAT ALLOWED FOR DAMAGE TO OCCUR SO EASILY. OTHER INTERNET POSTS REVEALED THAT OWNERS WERE HAVING TO ENGINEER THEIR OWN FIXES TO PROTECT THE CONDENSER, SO THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE ANOTHER $800 BILL. THIS SHOULD BE HONDA'S RESPONSIBILITY. *AK
I OWN A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L. ON WEDNESDAY JUNE 20, 2007 I NOTICED THAT MY AIR CONDITIONER WAS NO LONGER PUTTING OUT COLD AIR. I ALSO NOTICED AT THIS TIME THAT MY TEMP GAUGE WAS OVER TO THE HOT LINE. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF MY ENGINE AND LET IT COOL. ONCE I RESTARTED IT IMMEDIATELY WENT BACK TO THE HOT POSITION. ONCE I MADE IT HOME I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND NOTICED THAT THE FAN CONTINUED TO RUN AND THE CAR WAS EMITTING A BURNING RUBBERY SMELL. I CALLED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THIS. I ASKED ABOUT THIS BEING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IF FOR SOME REASON THERE WAS A ROCK IN THERE THAT MY WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT BUT I HAD NO CONCERN BECAUSE I THOUGHT THIS WAS RARE. IT WAS TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY CALLED ME THE NEXT MORNING STATING THAT THERE WERE ROCKS IN MY RADIATOR AND THAT MY WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT AND IT WAS GOING TO COST ME OVER $700 TO GET IT FIXED. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND TALKED WITH HONDA AGAIN AND THEY SAID THAT THEY SEE THIS ALOT. THEY SHOWED ME MY RADIATOR AND THREE ROCKS THAT THEY PULLED OUT OF IT SAYING THAT THESE ARE WHAT CAUSED MY PROBLEM. THEY ASKED IF THEY COULD FIX THE RADIATOR WHILE THEY HAD THE PARTS IN STOCK AND I SAID YES KNOWING THAT I NEED MY CAR ASAP. I LATER CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN TO QUESTION THE INCIDENT WITH THE ROCKS BECAUSE I TALKED WITH ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPENED THAT EASILY. THEY STILL HAVE THE OLD RADIATOR. THE LEVEL OF COURTESY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT I HAVE RECEIVED FROM HONDA HAS DRAMATICALLY DROPPED SINCE I HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE. THIS MORNING, SUNDAY JULY 1, 2007 I DECIDED TO DO SOME INTERNET RESEARCH ON HONDA ODYSSEY'S AND THIS ROCK PROBLEM AND I WAS AMAZED AND APPALLED AT HOW MUCH THIS HAPPENS AND HOW MUCH HONDA HAS JUST IGNORED THIS DESIGN FLAW. I FEEL THAT A DESIGN FLAW ALLOWING YOUR ENGINE TO OVERHEAT CAN PUT YOU AT RISK FOR A MAJOR ENGINE FIRE AND POSSIBLY DEATH AND HONDA HAS CHOSEN TO IGNORE THIS. *TR
THE A/C STARTED BLOWING HOT AIR ON 6/10/07. THE DEALER INFORMED US THERE WOULD BE A $195 INSPECTION FEE BEFORE REPAIRS WERE STARTED. WE WERE INFORMED A ROCK HIT THE CONDENSER, AND REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY. WE WERE SHOWN NO EVIDENCE OF THE DAMAGE. THE DEALER IMPLIED THIS WAS A RARE PROBLEM, YET INSISTED THAT AMERICAN HONDA WOULD NOT COVER ANY PART OF THE RESPONSE, AS THE DEALER HAD DEALT WITH THEM ON THIS ISSUE IN THE PAST. NOT WANTING TO WASTE THE $195 INSPECTION FEE, I GAVE THE GO AHEAD TO WHAT I FOUND OUT LATER WAS AN OVER-PRICED $840 REPAIR. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW, ONE THAT AMERICAN HONDA TOLD ME WAS ADDRESSED IN THE 2008 MODEL REDESIGN. I AM PURSUING THIS ISSUE WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE. *TR
AIR COMPRESSOR LEAKED FREON DUE TO SMALL ROCK IN CONDENSER. CAR IS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD AND WELL WITHIN WARRANTY. HOWEVER, HONDA CLAIMS THAT THE ROCK IN THE AIR CONDENSER IS A ROAD HAZARD, AND NOT COVERED WARANTY. $770 LATER, AND A FEW GOOGLE SEARCHES ABOUT HONDA ODYSSEY'S WITH ROCKS IN COMPRESSORS, AND A PLETHORA OF PEOPLE ARE FOUND WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING MY 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN AROUND ~10:00 PM ON I-5 ABOUT 55 MILES PER HOUSE. ALL OF A SUDDEN REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW UP. IT IS A MICHELIN TIRE WITH 9,600 MILES ON IT. THE TIRE CAME BRAND NEW WITH THE VAN WHICH HAD ~9,600 MILES. DISCOUNT TIRE PROFESSIONAL EXAMINED THE TIRE AND DID NOT FIND ANY DAMAGE TO TIRE SUCH AS A NAIL OR CUT THAT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN BLOW UP. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY PURCHASE NEW - APPROX. 20,000 MILES AT TIME - $600 TO REPLACE AIR CONDENSER. SOMETHING FLEW UP FROM THE ROAD AND PUT A HOLE IN MY AIR CONDENSER. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY COMMENTED THAT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW AND THE GRILL DID NOT PROPERLY PROTECT THE CONDENSER BUT THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. DEALER COST FOR REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN $800. I PAID A LOCAL MECHANIC $600. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY BRAND NEW WITH WARRANTY AND AT 20,000 MILES STARTED COMPLAINING OF A WHINING OR HUMMING NOISE AFTER TRAVELING DISTANCES OVER 30 MINUTES LONG. THE WEATHER DID NOT SEEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I COMPLAINED 5 SEPARATE TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP, EACH TIME BEING TURNED AWAY BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIND AN ISSUE. AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED, THEY WERE ABLE TO TELL ME THAT MY POWER STEERING PUMP HAD FAILED AND AFTER MUCH TALK WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND HONDA, THEY REPLACED IT COVERING 75% OF THE COST. THAT WAS IN OCTOBER 2009. ON MARCH 15, THE NOISE RETURNED AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ASSUMING IT WAS MY POWER STEERING PUMP. IT WAS MY POWER STEERING RACK WHICH AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH SEVERAL OTHER MECHANICS SEEMS TO BE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS ALL ALONG. I NOW HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING RACK AT A COST OF $1500. I HAVE TRIED TO GET HELP FROM HONDA, BUT THEY CLAIM IT IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY SAME ISSUE ONLINE AND HONDA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR ALL MODELS 2005-2007 AND SOME 2008 MODELS FOR POWER STEERING PUMP FAILURE. THIS IS A LARGER ISSUE AND A RECALL OF THIS ENTIRE SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT OR MORE HONDA OWNERS ARE GOING TO RUN INTO THE ISSUE I HAVE. IF I DON'T REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK, FLUID COULD POUR OUT AT ANY TIME AND CAUSE ME TO LOSE STEERING AT ANY POINT. SO THAT IS WHY I AM HAVING IT FIXED IMMEDIATELY. I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE ACTION ON THIS. THE HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN WHICH WAS REVISED IN 2007, IS BULLETIN NUMBER 07-005.*TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH ON A WINDY DAY, THE CONTACT HEARD A RATTLING NOISE. THE NOISE INTENSIFIED TO A THUMPING SOUND AND THE CONTACT PULLED OFF THE ROAD. HE DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR SPOILER WAS HANGING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE HOOKS FAILED AND THE SPOILER COULD NOT BE DEFECTIVE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 12,780 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,400.
I OWN A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH NO AIR CONDITIONING. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD A ROCK HIT THE CONDENSER AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAD THE CAR LESS THAN A YEAR. MY DAUGHTER, HANNAH (AGE 2 YEARS, 3 MONTHS WAS SITTING IN THE CAR SEAT BEHIND DRIVER IN THE 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WE HAVE THE 8 SEAT MODEL. SHE TOOK THE SEAT BELT FROM THE CENTER ROW MIDDLE SEAT AND TWISTED IT AROUND HER NECK. I REALIZED THIS WHEN WE GOT TO A FRIEND'S HOUSE. WHEN SHE MOVED HER HEAD OR I TRIED TO LOOSEN THE BELT IT GOT TIGHTER. MY FRIEND HAD TO COME OUT WITH A SCISSOR AND WE HAD TO CUT THE BELT. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE SEAT BELT FOR THE CENTER SEAT IN THE MIDDLE ROW CAME DOWN FROM THE CEILING, AND WAS VERY EASY FOR A YOUNG CHILD SITTING IN A CAR SEAT TO REACH OVER AND GRAB IT.*AK
I HAVE OWNED MY HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. THE AC WASN'T WORKING, AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT A "ROCK OR PEBBLE" MUST HAVE HIT THE CONDENSER CAUSING A PUNCTURE. THE PART ALONE IS $790, AND HONDA IS REFUSING TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY. THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE FROM OTHER OWNERS AS THE CONDENSER LIES LOW TO THE GROUND. HONDA IS COVERING "SOME" PEOPLE'S COSTS, BUT NOT OTHERS. I FEEL THIS IS LIKELY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED, AND COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO GRILLE OR PROTECTION FOR THE CONDENSER. *TR
AIR CONDITIONER FAILURE DUE TO HOLE IN CONDENSER. HONDA INFORMED ME THAT SOMETIMES AN OBJECT CAN CAUSE THE HOLE IN THE CONDENSER WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE DUE TO POOR DESIGN AND INADEQUATE PROTECTION OF CRITICAL PARTS THAT OPERATE A VEHICLE. *TR
THE GRILLE DESIGN ON THE HONDA ACCORD 2006 CAUSES A ROCK TO COME THROUGH THE GRILLE AREA AND DAMAGE THE CONDENSOR CAUSING IT TO FAIL TO BLOW OUT COLD A/C. THIS VEHICLE IS PRACTICALLY BRAND NEW AND BECAUSE OF THEIR DESIGN THE END USER IS GETTING SCREWED OVER WITH VEHICLE FIXTURES COSTING ME OVER $1000 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THE CONDENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, A DIAGNOSTIC WAS DONE AND THEN LABOR BRINGS THIS UP TO $1000 RANGE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS, BECAUSE OF THEIR DESIGN THEY ARE NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND THE END USER HAS TO PAY FOR THIS; THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN ANYTIME AND THEN I WOULD BE ON THE HOOK FOR IT AGAIN. *JB
A ROCK HIT THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER COIL. THE DAMAGE CAUSED A LEAK IN THE COIL AND THE CONDENSER HAD TO BE REPLACED. I MOUNTED A GRILL TO PREVENT FURTHER SIMILAR DAMAGE. *AK
I NOTICED ON 4/10/07 THAT AIR CONDITIONER (A/C) WASN'T BLOWING COLD AIR IN THE 2006 HONDA ODESSEY. HAD MY HUSBAND TAKE IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP THIS MORNING, AND WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE A/C CONDENSER TUBE LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS AREA WAS NOT PROTECTED BY A GRILLE, AND THE DAMAGE HAS MOST LIKELY BEEN CAUSED BY ROAD DEBRIS. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH DISCOVERED THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED TO MANY HONDA OWNERS. THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, AND I CONSIDER IT TO BE A DESIGN FLAW. WE WERE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY AT LEAST $600 TO REPAIR THE A/C , AND WERE NOT GUARANTEED THAT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THE AIR CONDITIONER AND HOT AIR BEGAN TO BLOW. THE CONTACT LEFT THE AIR CONDITIONER ON FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES AND IT CONTINUED TO EMIT HEAT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE CONDENSER AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SKID TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, CAUSING HER TO CRASH INTO A HIGHWAY SIGN. THE ABS AND ABI LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED AFTER THE CRASH. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THERE IS A POLICE REPORT AVAILABLE. IN NOVEMBER 2005, WE PURCHASED THE 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING MINI-VAN. UPON QUESTIONING THE PAX TIRE SYSTEM (A SELLING POINT FOR THE TOURING EDITION), WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT REPLACEMENT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY 10-15% ABOVE SIMILAR TIRES. AT APPROXIMATELY 27,500 MILES (JUST 16 MONTHS AFTER OUR PURCHASE AND REGULAR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE), WE WERE TOLD BY THE HONDA SERVICE TECHNICIANS THAT WE NEEDED TO HAVE ALL 4 OF OUR TIRES REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR (3/32 TREAD). UPON CALLING AROUND TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS IN OUR AREA WE DISCOVERED THE COST TO REPLACE ALL 4 OF THE TIRES WAS $1200. MUCH, MUCH MORE THAN 10-15% ABOVE A REGULAR SET OF SIMILAR TIRES. WHILE WE WERE MADE AWARE THE ADDITIONAL COST IN TIRE REPLACEMENT, WE WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE HIGHER FREQUENCY THIS WOULD OCCUR. IN FACT WE WERE ASSURED BY A CERTIFIED HONDA TECHNICIAN THAT THE TREAD WEAR OF THE MICHELIN PAX TIRES WAS SUPERIOR TO THAT OF SIMILAR MINI-VAN TIRES. IF WE HAD KNOWN THAT THERE WOULD BE A $1200 MAINTENANCE COST IN THE TIRES ALONE EVERY 1-1.5 YEARS, WE WOULD NEVER HAVE PURCHASED THE TOURING EDITION OF THIS VEHICLE. WE CONTACTED MICHELIN WHO TOLD US TO HAVE THE TREAD CHECKED/VERIFIED BY A CERTIFIED PAX DEALER, AND THEY WOULD HAVE A CASE OPEN. UPON VERIFICATION OF EXCESSIVE WEAR BY DISCOUNT TIRE, MICHELIN OFFERED A 35% DISCOUNT ON THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PAX TIRES. UNSATISFIED, WE PROCEEDED TO CONTACT HONDA'S CORPORATE OFFICE IN AN EFFORT TO HAVE THE EX MODEL WHEELS PUT ON THE VEHICLE (AT HONDA'S EXPENSE). THE CORPORATE OFFICE REFERRED US BACK TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHO CLAIMS THE LIGHTER EX MODEL WHEELS CANNOT BE PUT ON THE HEAVIER SUSPENSION SYSTEM OF THE TOURING EDITION. OUR CURRENT OPTIONS ARE TO REPLACE WITH ANOTHER SET OF PAX TIRES AND HOPE WE DON''T FACE THIS EXCESSIVE EXPENSE AGAIN IN ANOTHER 12-15 MONTHS OR REPLACE WITH AFTER MARKET WHEELS AND TIRES.
I HAVE A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH 10 K MILES AND THE AC CONDENSER DEVELOPED A PINHOLE LEAK WITH NO APPARENT ROCK DAMAGE. THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER REFUSED TO COVER THE LEAK UNDER WARRANTY. PURCHASED A NEW 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L WITH RES AND NAV IN JULY 2006 IN NEW JERSEY (PLANET HONDA). TWICE I NOTICED ON VERY COLD MORNINGS (OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 10 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AT 9:30 AM) THAT AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE THE AIR-BAG INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO AWAY. THEY HAD A LOOK AND CONCLUDED THAT THE SIDE IMPACT SENSOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING (PART NUMBER 77970-SHJ-B81). THEY HAVE ORDERED TWO NUMBERS ??? HOW CAN THIS BE ? THIS IS A BRAND NEW MINIVAN WITH ONLY 5000 MILES ON IT AND NO COLLISIONS NOT EVEN THE LEAST MINOR ONES WHAT SO EVER. SEEMS THERE ARE SOME GAPS AND QUALITY CONTROL ISSUES IN HONDA'S MANUFACTURING PROCESS NOW THAT THIS MINIVAN IS ENTIRELY BEING BUILT IN USA. WITH MY WIFE DRIVING OUR SMALL CHILDREN IN OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY, THE WINDSHIELD WASHER SYSTEM FAILED TO OPERATE AND CLEAN THE WINDSHIELD. THE TEMPERATURES WERE AROUND +25 DEGREES F AND THE FLUID LEVEL WAS FULL WITH FLUID RATED TO -20 DEGREES F. IT APPEARS THE SYSTEM FREEZES UP, EVEN WHEN THE VAN ENGINE TEMP WAS FULLY HEATED TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE. I WAS ADVISED WHEN I FIRST HAD THE OIL CHANGED (6/06) IN MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY (PURCHASED 10/05) THAT THERE WAS APPARENTLY AN OIL LEAK FROM THE ENGINE. I THEN TOOK THE VAN TO THE HONDA DEALER IN SPRINGFIELD, IL. WHERE I PURCHASED IT, AND I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE OIL PAN SEAL. THIS SEAL WAS THEN CHANGED. WHEN THE OIL WAS AGAIN CHANGED IN LATE DECEMBER, '06, THERE AGAIN WAS AN OIL LEAK NOTED FROM THE ENGINE. AFTER SOME TESTING, THE HONDA DEALER FIRST SAID HE WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION TO IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK. THEY THOUGHT IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT A DAY OR SO TO REPAIR. THE NEXT DAY, I WAS TOLD HE WOULD HAVE TO ORDER A "PART" WHICH WOULD TAKE ABOUT A WEEK TO RECEIVE. AFTER COMPLAINING TO HONDA USA, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE/REPAIR THE ENGINE WITH A NEW "SHORT BLOCK" FROM HONDA. THE DEALER WAS ONLY WILLING TO LET ME USE A HONDA CIVIC AS A "LOANER" FOR MY VAN, BUT AFTER FURTHER COMPLAINTS TO HONDA USA, THEY ARRANGED FOR ME TO GET A RENTED VAN FROM ENTERPRISE. THEY HAVE ALSO AGREED TO GIVE ME A SIX YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE VEHICLE. AS OF THIS DAY, I AM AWAITING THE REPAIR/RETURN OF MY ODYSSEY. *JB
A/C PROBLEM 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. WE PURCHASED A NEW 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY IN JUNE 2006, AND IN DECEMBER WE STARTED HAVING A/C PROBLEMS. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A HOLE IN THE A/C CONDENSOR WHICH THE HONDA DEALER STATED TO BE CAUSED BY A ROCK. THE VAN HAD LESS THAN 11,000 MILES ON IT, AND WE PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN WE BOUGHT THE VAN. SURELY, THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY OR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SHOULD COVER SUCH A PROBLEM, BUT HONDA SAID NO. BEING ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD, WE FIND IT VERY FRUSTRATING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS WHEN IT APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW BY HONDA. THE A/C CONDENSOR IS JUST SITTING THERE EXPOSED TO ALL THE ELEMENTS OF THE ROAD WITH NO GRILL IN FRONT OF IT. THE AMERICAN HONDA REP AGREED TO PAY HALF AS A "GOOD WILL GESTURE". IT STILL COST US $275 FOR THE REPAIR. LOTS OF OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH HONDA ODESSEYS AS SEEN ON THE INTERNET. HONDA SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND INSTALL A SCREEN IN FRONT OF THE CONDENSOR TO PROTECT IT, AND SHOULD BE FORCED TO REIMBURSE EVERYONE ANY MONEY SPENT TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM.

HE STATED THEY HAD PUT 6 NEW POWER STEERING PUMPS ON ANOTHER ODYSSEY AND COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WELL THEY REPLACED MY POWER STEERING PUMP AND ABOUT A MONTH LATER IT STARTED MAKING THE NOISE YET AGAIN. I CONTACTED THE SERVICE DIRECTOR AGAIN AND HE SAID HE WOULD NOTE IT AND I COULD GET IT FIXED WHEN I WANTED TO SO I HAVE NOW TAKEN MY VAN BACK TO THE SHOP TO GET IT FIXED AGAIN. MY VEHICLE IMPACTED THE OTHER ONE IN THE LEFT REAR QUADRANT. THE DAMAGE TO MY ODYSSEY WAS DIRECTLY ON THE FRONT GRILL AND BUMPER AREA. THE FRONTAL AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND BOTH FRONT SEAT BELTS WERE DISLODGED FROM THE MOUNTS LOCATED ON THE INSIDE DOOR POST. I THINK THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED AND THE SEAT BELTS WERE DEFECTIVE. BOTH OF THE ITEMS WERE REPLACED BY DEALERSHIP AND AIRBAG WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE. PART NUMBERS LISTED BELOW. 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY HAD THIRD BRAKE FAILURE. PREVIOUS TWO TIMES I DIDN'T KNOW IF MY FOOT HAD SLIPPED OFF OF BRAKE SLIGHTLY OR IF IT WAS IN FACT A BRAKE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME, THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE ASSOCIATED WITH BRAKING, AND THE VAN HAD AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES AND PUSH IT HARD TO GET ANY BRAKING AT ALL. I ALMOST ENDED UP IN A BUSY STREET AND WAS VERY SCARED THAT I COULDN'T STOP. ALL THREE OF THE INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING SLOW- MAYBE 10 MILES AN HOUR. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS EVEN THOUGH THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT THESE ITEMS SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED A PROBLEM WITH BRAKING. I'M NOT CONFIDENT THAT THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED AND AM SCARED THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND THAT I WON'T BE ABLE TO PREVENT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *NM
I HAVE A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY ABOUT 4000 MILES. WHEN I STOPPED AT PARKING LOT I SAW SMOKES/GAS RISING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. IT WAS FREON GAS LEAKING OUT OF THE CONDENSER. SPENT $700 TO FIX IT AT THE DEALERSHIP. CALL HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE POOR CONDENSER PROTECTION DESIGN ON THE ODYSSEY. A "SENIOR" REGIONAL MANAGER RESPOND, HE DIDN'T THINK IT'S A DESIGN ISSUE. AND HE REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE DAMAGE. *NM
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILS WHEN TURNING QUICKLY (IE: LOW SPEED, TURNING INTO PARKING SLOT). MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN ENGINE IS WARM. VEHICLE IS 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EXL MINIVAN WITH APPROX 70K MILES. HONDA DEALER HAS REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP 3X WITH NO EXPLANATION FOR THE FAILURE OTHER THAN POOR DESIGN. LATEST REPLACEMENT PERFORMED 10/22/10. *TR
ANY TIME WHEN OUSIDE TEMP DROPS BELOW 40 DEG FARENHEIGHT AND I DRIVE MY 06 HONDA ODYSSEY I GET A LOUD WHINING AT IDLE AND ACCERLERATION BUT MORE PREDOMINANTLY WHEN TURNING LEFT TO RIGHT. AFTER MANY VISITS TO THE DEALER BECAUSE WHICH THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE NOISE, I FINALLY TOOK IT IN FIRST THING IN THE MORNING WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMP WAS BELOW 40 DEG FOR THEM TO VERIFY THE NOISE. THEY CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS THE POWER STERING PUMP AND ORDERED A NEW ONE AND INSTALLED IT. THREE DAYS LATER IT WAS STILL MAKING THE NOISE AND AGAIN THE DEALER COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE NOISE. SO I AGAIN TOOK IT FIRST THING IN THE AM AND THEY AGAIN CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE SINCE RECEIVED A TSP BULLETIN ON THE PROBLEM AND ARE GOING TO TRY TO ORDER THE NECESSARY PARTS TO FIX MY PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR ME FOR MONTHS AND I WILL BE SURE TO COMMENT IF THIS PROBLEM GETS CORRECTED.
HONDA ODYSSEY 2006 WITH 4120 MILES. ONLY DRIVEN ON SURFACE STREETS. AIR CONDITIONING FAILED. MECHANICS STATES A ROCK HIT THE CONDENSER COILS AND WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. HONDA HAS DESIGNED THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM SO THAT THE CONDENSER COILS ARE EXPOSED. *JB
