I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY AT A NORMAL SPEED IN HOUSTON, WHEN IT SUDDENLY WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR, AND THE TACH REVVED UP TO THE RED LINE. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. I HAVE 143,00 MILES ON IT. THE PRICE THAT THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED WAS 4300.00 DOLLARS. I REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM AMERICAN HONDA, AND WAS DENIED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF MILES ON THE VAN. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL HONDA SPECIALIST AND GOT THE SAME TRANSMISSION AND WARRANTY FOR 1100.00 LESS. *TR
MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY (WITH 45000 MILES) REAR LIFT GATE SUPPORTING STRUT(S) FAILED AND THE THE GATE BECAME SO HEAVY. LUCKILY THE FAILURE HAPPENED WHEN THE GATE WAS CLOSED. IF THE FAILURE OCCURS WHEN THE GATE IS OPEN, SOMEONE MAY BE INJURED. HOWEVER, I DID BUMP MY HEAD WHEN I PUT A POST TO HOLD THE GATE WHILE REMOVING ITEMS FROM THE VEHICLE. I ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE POST AND THE GATE FELL AND HIT MY HEAD. THE KEY POINT IS THAT HONDA SHOULD REPLACE THE STRUTS WITH A HEAVIER DUTY PARTS SO NO ONE WILL GET HURT. *LN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR HATCH STRUT THAT HELD THE LIFTGATE FAILED AND AS A RESULT, WOULD NOT REMAIN IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIFTGATE STRUCK AND INJURED A PASSENGER IN THEIR BACK. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND AS THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED, IT EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL WHINING AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE FAILURE PROGRESSED AND WOULD OCCUR WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OR IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RACK AND PINION LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
SEAT BELT DEFECT: WHEN OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS REAR-ENDED, THE REAR SEAT CHILD OCCUPANT WAS EJECTED OUT OF HIS SEAT AND SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE OCCUPANTS SEATBELT RELEASED ON IT'S OWN UPON IMPACT. IT IS INCONCLUSIVE WHETHER THE SEATBELT MALFUNCTION CONTRIBUTED TO THE CHILD'S WHIP LASH INJURIES. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY AUTOMATIC SLIDING (RIGHT) DOOR PARTIALLY OPENS THEN JAMS CAUSING PASSENGERS TO BE TRAP IN THE VEHICLE. THE DOOR HAS TO BE CYCLED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WILL OPEN. SERVICE TECH STATED THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSY MINIVAN HAS HAD ALL 4 MOTOR MOUNTS FAIL; I AM INFORMED THAT HIS COULD RESULT IN IN A HAZARDOUS CONDITION, INCLUDING A TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. HONDA HAS OFFERED NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO MY CAR, WHICH HAD APPROXIMATELY 92,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF DETECTION. *TT
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A SHUTTERING NOISE AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN VIBRATING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN THE CONTACT DROVE BETWEEN 30-40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 97,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT FRAME WAS BROKEN CAUSING THE SEAT TO SHIFT WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE BACK SEAT FRAME WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALER ADVISED THEM AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH A FIFTY PERCENT DISCOUNT FOR THE REPAIR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,900.
HONDA ODYSSEY 2006 HEATED SEAT PROBLEM. HEATED SEAT OVER HEATED CAUSING NO INJURY BUT BURNED LEATHER SEAT AND SMOLDERED WHILE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN GARAGE. OUR CONCERN IS THAT IF THIS WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE SEAT COULD HAVE CONTINUED TO SMOLDER, BURN AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO START ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE ATTACHED GARAGE OF OUR HOME. I AM QUITE SURPRISED THAT THERE IS NOT SOME SORT OF SAFETY BUILT INTO THE SEAT HEATER THAT WOULD BLOW A FUSE AND CEASE THE FLOW OF ELECTRICITY. IF THERE IS SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN PLACE IT HAS FAILED. WHEN WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO WILDE HONDA IN WAUKESHA WISCONSIN THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE US TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I DID NOT LET THEM INVESTIGATE BECAUSE I FELT THAT THEY SHOULD BE CONCERNED AT THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE MAY CAUSE ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS WITH BURNING/FIRE. WE HAVE NOT USED THE SEAT HEATER SINCE THIS INCIDENT. *TR

WHILE PICKING UP MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY FROM THE DEALERSHIP {DUE TO A REPAIR FROM A RECALL} I'M INFORMED THAT I NEED TO REPLACE MY "MOTOR MOUNTS"'. MY VAN IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AT THIS POINT AND THIS WILL COST ~ OVER $1,000.00! *TR THIS CAUSES LAG UPON ACCELERATION AND VIBRATION AT HIGHER SPEEDS {AND WILL BE MUCH WORSE WHEN ALL 3 MOUNTS FAIL}. STEERING WHEEL IN HONDA ODYSSEY 2006 MALFUNCTION. STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND GETS VERY TIGHT AT LOW SPEEDS AND CAUSE VAN TO GET STUCK IN A POSITION AND ONE HAS TO TURN THE WHEEL REAL HARD OR ACCELERATE TO CHANGE POSITION. ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT WHEN MANEUVERING THE VAN IN PARKING LOTS OR MAKING SHARP TURNS AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. AT LOW SPEEDS THE POWER STEERING PUMP DOES NOT PUMP ENOUGH FLUID ACCORDING TO DEALER. THE FAILURE OCCURS ALWAYS A LOW SPEEDS AND IT LEADS TO STEERING WHEEL GETTING STUCK OR BECOMING VERY TIGHT TO TURN THEREBY CAUSING THE CAR TO GET STUCK IN ONE PLACE. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO HONDA AND SAID THIS IS MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE WHICH NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. ALL THEY DID WAS STATE IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I ALMOST COULD NOT TURN AT THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL AND COULD HAVE GOT HIT BY THE CAR BEHIND ME A FEW DAYS BACK AND ALSO COULD NOT TURN INTO A STREET IN TRAFFIC AND ALMOST GOT HIT BY ANOTHER CAR BEHIND ME SINCE I COULD NOT MOVE. HONDA USA TELLS ITS CONSUMERS THAT THEY DO NOT COVER MANUFACTURING DEFECTS LEADING TO SAFETY ISSUES IF VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SOON ENOUGH THIS IS GOING TO LEAD TO A LOT OF STEERING ISSUES AND YOU CAN CHECK THE WEB WITH THE SEARCH TERM "HONDA ODYSSEY 2006 STEERING ISSUES" AND YOU WILL FIND MANY INCIDENTS AS RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING PUMP. STEERING IS THE CRUCIAL PART OF ANY VEHICLE AND SUCH CALLOUSNESS ON PART OF HONDA DEFINITELY CALLS FOR A INVESTIGATION BEFORE WE SEE A LOT OF ACCIDENTS DUE A STEERING WHEEL GETTING STUCK. THE DEALERS DIAGNOSIS AFTER CHECK UP WAS TO REPLACE THE STEERING PUMP SO THAT THE PUMP WILL PUSH ENOUGH FLUID AT LOW SPEEDS AND NOT CAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET STUCK. THERE IS A POTENTIAL THAT THIS CAN ALSO OCCUR AT HIGH SPEEDS BUT FOR ME IT HAPPENS A LOW SPEEDS. HONDA ALSO DOES NOT ALLOW CONSUMERS TO TALK TO SENIOR PERSONS FOR RESOLUTION AND STATED CONSUMER HAS REACHED END OF LINE ONCE IT HITS THEIR PHONE SYSTEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH IN WHICH THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEFLATE AFTER DEPLOYMENT. AS A RESULT, THE PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT AND REAR SEATS HAD THEIR HEADS STUCK BETWEEN THE AIR BAGS AND THE WINDOW. THE PASSENGERS HAD TO OPEN THE DOORS IN ORDER TO FREE THEMSELVES. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS TOOK LONGER TO DEPLOY THAN NORMAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED BUT NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 85,696 UPDATED 3/7/11 *CN
OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. SHE MANAGED TO MAKE IT HOME, BUT BETWEEN THE POWER LOSS AND THE NOISE STARTING TO COME FROM UNDER THE HOOD, SHE WAS NERVOUS. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A GENTILE HONDA IN RACINE WI. THEY REPORTED THAT THE SPARK PLUG WAS PULLED OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD WHEN THE COIL-PACK "POPPED". I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS A MATERIAL FAILURE IN THE CYLINDER HEAD WHICH CAUSED THE SPARK PLUG THREADS TO FAIL, WHICH RESULTED IN THE COIL-PACK SHORTING TO GROUND ON THE HEAD, AND CAUSING AN OVER-CURRENT CONDITION THROUGH THE COIL WHICH CAUSED THE COIL-PACK TO EXPLODE. GENTILE HONDA WANTS TO DO A MACHINIST REPAIR ON THE CYLINDER HEAD WHILE IT'S STILL ON THE ENGINE ($730.42). NORTH AMERICAN HONDA WANTS TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER WITH SOME MONETARY ASSISTANCE FOR A TOTAL OF $1500. NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN AT THIS TIME TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. I FEEL THIS IS A MATERIAL DEFECT CAUSED BY HONDA'S PART VENDOR. GENTILE HONDA CLAIMS THE COIL-PACK PULLED THE PLUG OUT OF THE ALUMINUM HEAD. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN AS THE TENSILE/SHEAR STRENGTH OF THE PLASTIC COIL-PACK IS FAR LESS THAN THE TENSILE/SHEAR STRENGTH OF THE ALUMINUM ALLOY HEAD. THE ATOMIZED FUEL BEING ADDED TO THE CYLINDER WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE BY BEING IGNITED AS IT WAS BLOWN OUT OF THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER THROUGH THE SPARK PLUG HOLE. *TR

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN ANY DIRECTION, THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS SCHEDULED. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 42,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 41,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2006 ODYSSEY WITH 55,000 MI WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR POWER BRAKE MODULE REPLACEMENT RECALL CAMPAIGN. WHEN VEHICLE WAS RETURNED, BRAKES WERE MUSHY AND SOFT. ADDITIONAL STOPPING DISTANCE WAS REQUIRED TO STOP VAN SAFELY. DANGEROUS BRAKING CONDITION EXISTED. CAN NOT BELIEVE DEALER RETURNED VEHICLE IN THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION! WHEN VAN WAS RETURNED TO DEALER THEY SAID VAN HAD BEEN ROAD TESTED PRIOR TO CUSTOMER PICK UP AND THAT IT WAS FINE THEN. NOT POSSIBLE! NO SERVICE TECHNICIAN WOULD RELEASE A VEHICLE IN THAT DANGEROUS CONDITION IF IT HAD BEEN ROAD TESTED. DEALER CORRECTED CONDITION BY BLEEDING BRAKE LINES AT NO COST TO OWNER. *TR

THE DEALER WAS CALLED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THE DEALER'S STATEMENT AND PROVIDED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
HI I WOULD LIKE TO BRING IT TO YOUR ATTENTION THAT MY 2006 ODYSSEY(EX-L WITH DVD) A/C SWITCH WILL NOT WORK IN WINTER, WHEN PRESSED IT IS LIKE A ROCK. A/C SWITCH BECOMES HARD TO PRESS IN WINTER/FALL DRIVING CONDITIONS. IN SUMMER NO ISSUE AT ALL. WHY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE: UNDER CERTAIN NIGHT DRIVING CONDITIONS IN FALL OR WINTER, WINDSHIELD FOG FORMS DURING NIGHT DRIVING.I WAS UNABLE TO TURN ON FRONT DE-FOG SWITCH WHICH WORKS ONLY WHEN AC IS ON. AS A RESULT I HAD TO PULL OVER & PRESS AC SWITCH HARD TO MAKE IT WORK. DUE TO THICK FOG ON GLASS, WAS UNABLE TO SEE INFRONT UNTIL AC SWITCH WAS TURNED ON WITH FRONT WINDSHIELD DEFOG MODE. HOPE NHTSA LOOKS IN TO THIS ISSUE & RECOMMEND MANUFACTURER TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR

2006 HONDA ODYSSEY BOUGHT USED W/ APPROX 61,000 MILES AND 60,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY, PURCHASED LAST WEEK OF JULY 2010, BREAKDOWN 10/6/2010. HAD SHAKE WHILE DRIVING AND WAS SERVICED, FOUND TO HAVE PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION, TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AND PROBLEM RESOLVED. CAR WAS DRIVEN PART WAY ACROSS COUNTRY, 1200 MILES, IN THE NEXT 10 DAYS, ALL HIGHWAY MILES. 20 MINUTES AFTER STOPPING FOR LUNCH, WHILE CRUISING ON HIGHWAY @ 70 MPH, CAR HAD INTERMITTENT CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM DRIVER'S SIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON @ THIS TIME AND TEMP READING WAS NORMAL. MY HUSBAND TOOK CAR OFF CRUISE CONTROL, NOISE STOPPED, HE ATTEMPTED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKED A COUPLE TIMES, HE SLOWED, STARTED SAFELY MOVING TO SHOULDER, CLICKING STARTED, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SOLID, TEMP GAUGE SPIKED TO RED, CARON SHOULDER, NO POWER. FROM FIRST CLICKING NOISE TO ENGINE FAILURE AND FIRST WARNING LIGHT WAS APPROX 1 MINUTE. DEALER FOUND CAR TO HAVE CRACKED ENGINE, MELTED RADIATOR, BLOWN HEAD GASKET, NO COOLANT OR OIL IN ENGINE. NO ORIGINAL SOURCE FOR BREAKDOWN COULD BE FOUND EVEN AFTER COMPLETE ENGINE TEARDOWN. HEAD GASKET WAS NOT CAUSE OF BREAKDOWN. NO OIL LEAK, HAD OIL CHANGE @ DEALER PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE OF VEHICLE, NOT YET DUE FOR ROUTINE SERVICE, OIL LIFE INDICATOR GAVE 50% OIL LIFE 20 MILES PRIOR TO BREAKDOWN. HONDA NOTIFIED AND NOT CONCERNED. WARRANTY CO DENIED CLAIM B/C NO CAUSE OF FAILURE FOUND. DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD CAR IS PAYING FOR NEW ENGINE, RADIATOR AND ANY OTHER REPAIRS AND WILL CONTINUE TO SEEK REIMBURSEMENT FROM WARRANTY CO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE BLOWER FOR THE DEFROSTER WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO DEFROST THE WINDOWS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ASKED HER TO GET A SECOND OPINION. 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. POWER STEERING PUMP CAUSING HUMMING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. THERE IS A TSB 07-005 FOR THIS. IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE (DEFECTIVE PART) AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS OWNERS WHO HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ON THE INTERNET, BUT HONDA HAS NOT RECALLED THE VEHICLES. *TR
THE CAR SHAKES REALLY BAD AT ABOUT 30-35 MILES PER HOUR AND ALSO HESITATES AT TIMES. YOU CAN FEEL THE VAN SHIFT VERY HARD ALSO. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EXCESSIVE VIBRATION FROM ENGINE WHEN AT IDLE AND ESPECIALLY WHEN ECO MODE ENGAGED OR DURING SLOW ACCELERATION. HONDA DEALER STATES THE CAUSE TO BE A BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT WHICH IS A SPECIAL DESIGN AND COSTS OVER $500 - $600. THE VAN HAS ONLY 80000 MILES BUT THAT PUTS IT PAST WARRANTY. THE REASON I BRING THIS TO YOU IS THE MANY WEB SIGHT BLOGS WITH SIMILAR ISSUES AND HONDA'S UNWILLINGNESS TO HELP WITH COSTS AND OR REPLACEMENTS. IF THIS ISSUE IS ALLOWED TO PERSIST FOR TOO LONG THE OTHER MOUNTS BEGIN TO FAIL AND THE MOTOR DROPPING OUT BECOMES A REAL POSSIBILITY. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BY HONDA AND A REDESIGN OF THE MOUNT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *LN
TOOK 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN COMPLAINING OF STRONG ENGINE SHUDDER WHEN ACCELERATING AND BETWEEN GEAR SHIFTS. SHUDDER IS SO STRONG WHOLE CAR SHIMMIES INCLUDING STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN FOR THIS ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS (AT 60,000 AND 90,000) AND IT HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY DIAGNOSED. JUST 5 MONTHS AND A FEW THOUSAND MILES LATER I AM BEING TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. VERY INTERESTING THAT IT'S THE SAME ISSUE I HAVE BEEN IN FOR BEFORE WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COMPLETELY DIED. I HAD TWO DOG CRATES IN THE BACK OF THE MINIVAN WITH DOGS IN THEM. THE DOORS HAD BEEN LOCKED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE OCCURRING. ONCE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DIED, I HAD NO WAY TO OPEN THE TAILGATE IN ORDER TO GET THE DOGS OUT OF THE CAR. I WAS UNABLE TO REACH THE EMERGENCY RELEASE BECAUSE IT WAS BLOCKED BY THE DOG CRATES. THERE IS NO OUTSIDE KEY ACCESS FOR THE TAILGATE NOR A MANUAL RELEASE IN THE DRIVER'S COMPARTMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME ABNORMALLY RESISTANT. TWO DAYS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE ESC WARNING LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE STEERING RACK BOLTS WERE REPLACED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE STEERING BOLTS HAD FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
THE POWER LIFT GATE ON 2006 ODYSSEY FAILED HITTING MY HUSBAND ON THE SHOULDER. WE HAD NO PRIOR WARNING OF THIS HAPPENING AND IT COULD HAVE EASILY RESULTED IN A MORE SERIOUS INJURY HAD THE GATE CLOSED ON ONE OF MY CHILDREN. HONDA CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL ON 2005 VEHICLE FOR THIS ISSUE BUT WHEN I CALLED THEM THEY SAID THEY WOULD MAKE A NOTE BUT AT THIS TIME DID NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION AS TO A RECALL OF THE 2006. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIPS ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM WITH THE DETERIORATION OF THE GAS STRUTS IN THE ODYSSEY. THIS CLEARLY A DANGEROUS DEFECT AND NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
FAILURE OF THE LIFT GATE GAS STRUTS ON A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING THAT CAUSES THE GATE TO CLOSE UNEXPECTEDLY. CONSEQUENCES WERE AN ADULT MALE BEING HIT IN THE BACK BY THE LIFT GATE. IN THIS INSTANCE NO SERIOUS INJURY HAD OCCURRED, BUT IF THE PERSON IN THE PATH OF THE LIFT GATE WERE SMALLER THE WEIGHT AND MOMENTUM OF THE GATE COULD EASILY CAUSE HEAD AND NECK INJURIES. I WOULD ASSUME MOST OWNERS OF THIS MINIVAN HAVE CHILDREN AND THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT A CHILD IN THE PATH OF A FAILING LIFT GATE WOULD SUSTAIN SERIOUS INJURY. THE LIFT GATE GAS STRUTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. HONDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS OFFERED A RECALL FOR THIS ON SIMILAR VEHICLES, BUT HAS NOT YET OFFERED ANY CORRECTION FOR THE VEHICLE WE OWN. *TR
TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE CAR START SHAKING WHEN IT WANTS TO CHANGE FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY: AUTOMATIC DOOR ON DRIVER SIDE SLIDE OPEN WHILE ACCELERATING ON AN ON RAMP TO A HIGHWAY WITH AUTOMATIC LOCKS LOCKED. THE ON RAMP WAS CURVED AS WELL. THE DOOR WAS NOT SHUTTING COMPLETELY UNLESS I MANUALLY CLOSED IT. THE DOOR STAYED CLOSED. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS INDICATING AN OPEN DOOR. I HAD THE AUTOMATIC DOOR FUNCTION OFF. I TURNED IT ON TO CLOSE THE DOOR AND TURNED THE POWER OFF AGAIN UNTIL I COULD GET TO A SAFE SPOT TO MANUALLY CLOSE. I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THE AUTOMATIC DOOR MOTOR WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE ROLLER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING. WHEN THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN, THE CONTACT DROVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. WHEN HE TRIED TO MOVE FORWARD, THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN FIFTEEN MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER THE CONTACT DROVE 120 MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE WITHIN THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,500.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,300.
MY CAR IS A HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING 2006. I REMOTELY OPENED THE TAILGATE AND STEPPED UNDER IT TO PUT UP THE THIRD ROW SEAT. THE TAILGATE UNEXPECTEDLY BEGAN TO LOWER AND HIT ME IN THE HEAD PRETTY HARD. I THEN TRIED AGAIN THINKING IT WAS AN ERROR AND WAS ALMOST HIT AGAIN. THE THIRD TIME I TRIED TO STOP THE DOOR FROM GOING DOWN BUT COULD NOT. 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN. WHILE CRUISING (NOT ACCELERATING, NOT CLIMBING) AT ABOUT 70 MPH ON I-5 SOUTH IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, THE DRIVER SAW THE TACHOMETER SUDDENLY SHOOT UP ABOVE THE RED LINE (>5000 RPM). THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV WITH ACCOMPANYING VERY LOUD ENGINE NOISE. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT EVEN AS THE DRIVER EASED OFF THE GAS PEDAL. THE DRIVER PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND BACK OF THE CAR WAS SOAKED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE CAR WAS SURROUNDED BY THE SMELL OF BURNING OIL. THE CAR WAS TOWED 129 MILES TO A SERVICE STATION. DIAGNOSIS: "BLOWN TRANSMISSION", APPARENTLY A RECURRENT PROBLEM WITH HONDA ODYSSEYS. *TR

CONTACTED HONDA CANADA TOLD HADN'T HEARD OF PROBLEM. 15 MINUTE INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS 10 OTHERS WITH SAME YEAR AND MODEL WHO HAVE SUFFERED SAME INCIDENT. TOOK IT TO DEALER WILL REPLACE THE ROLLER/HINGE WHICH BROKE- APPROX $230.00 TO FIX (NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY). HUGE SAFETY CONCERN THAT THIS PART CAN BREAK AND LET CAR DOOR FALL DOWN-IMAGINE IT HAD BEEN ON ONE OF MY KIDS AGED 5 AND 6. *TR

THE PUMP SHOULD NOT GIVE OUT SO SOON. $700.00 REPAIR. ASKED ABOUT TECHNICAL BULLETINS ABOUT POWER STEERING AND MECHANIC SAID IT ONLY CONCERNS THE RESERVOIR AND THAT IS NOT MY ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000. I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN. THE METAL HINGES ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR DO A TERRIBLE JOB AT KEEPING THE DOORS OPEN. I MAKE SURE THAT THE DOOR IS IN THE DETENTE POSITION. IT DOESN'T MATTER. A SLIGHT GUST OF WIND OR IF THE CAR IS ON AN INCLINE, THE DOORS WILL SLAM SHUT ON THEIR OWN. ITT SMASHED & BROKE A BONE IN MY LEFT HAND. IT SLAMMED CLOSE ON MY SHINS BEFORE THAT MANY TIMES. I AM FRIGHTENED FOR FEAR OF SEVERE INJURY TO SOME BODY PART BEING SLAMMED INTO THE DOOR OF GUESTS AND BEING SUED. I MAKE A POINT TO HAVE MY WHOLE BODY LEANING ON THE DOOR IF IT NEEDS TO STAY OPEN FOR SOME PURPOSE NOW. THIS IS REALLY A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY. ROCK POPPED UP AND PUNCTURED THE A/C CONDENSER WHICH RESULTED IN THE A/C GOING OUT DUE TO FREON LEAKING OUT. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THE ODYSSEY AND HONDA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IN CORRECTING THE DEFECT. I HAVE TO HAVE THE COMPRESSOR REPLACED AND RECHARGED WHICH WILL COST 700.00. I HAVE THE PART ORDERED BUT HAVE TO GO WITHOUT AIR FOR A WEEK UNTIL IT COMES IN AND I LIVE IN FLORIDA SO IT IS NOT FUN HAVING KIDS AND NO AIR THIS TIME OF YEAR. *TR
