CAR SHUDDERS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AT LOWERS SPEEDS(20-40). *TR
MOTOR MOUNT WENT BAD AND CAUSING VIBRATIONS WHEN LOW DRIVING SPEEDS IN ECO. THE VIBRATIONS STARTED WHEN I HAD ABOUT 60K MILES AND THE VAN WAS 5 YEARS OLD. IT AFFECTS ACCELERATION BECAUSE I HAVE TO DECELERATE TO STOP THE VIBRATIONS. *TR
OUR CAR STARTED HAVING A LOUDER ENGINE/TRANSMISSION NOISE DURING ACCELERATION AND GOING UPHILL. WHEN THE DEALER CHECKED IT OUT THEY SAID THAT THE REAR ENGINE MOUNT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED (AT A COST OF $800 PLUS). AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THIS, I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE HONDA ODYSSEY THAT OCCURS BECAUSE OF THE VARIABLE CYLINDER ENGINE, WHICH CUTS OUT 2 CYLINDERS WHEN THEY ARE NOT NEEDED AND THUS SAVES GAS MILEAGE ON THESE CARS. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE REAR MOTOR MOUNT ON THESE CARS WAS DESIGNED TO HELP DAMPEN ANY VIBRATION CAUSED WHEN THE 2 CYLINDERS WERE NOT IN USE AND HAS BEEN WEARING OUT BEFORE ITS REGULAR LIFE (SOME AT 50,000 MILES). I REQUEST THAT NHTSA LOOK INTO BOTH THE DESIGN OF THIS DEVICE AND ALSO THE EXCESSIVE COST OF THE PART FOR THESE CARS (OTHER ENGINE MOUNTS ARE CONSIDERABLY CHEAPER) -- AND I PROPOSE A RECALL TO REPLACE THE PART. REAR MOTOR MOUNTS WENT BAD AND CAUSES VIBRATIONS WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 30-45MPH. *TR
WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE ARE 3 CRACKED ENGINE MOUNTS ON THE CAR. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS TYPICAL ON THE HONDA ODYSSEY. WE WERE ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE COST TO REPLACE IS ABOUT $1,000 EACH. THE CAR IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD AND DRIVEN BY A SOCCER MOM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE AIR BAG SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 120,098.
AT LESS THAN 80,000 MY HONDA ODYSSEY HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A BROKEN REAR ENGINE MOUNT CAUSING VIBRATION/RATLLING NOISE. SEVERAL HONDA ODYSSEY VAN OWNERS HAVE SIMILAR COMPLAINT. *TT
PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR FAILED TO DISENGAGE THE LOCK. HAD TO TAKE TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REMOVED THE DOOR PANEL AND REPLACED THE LATCH. SINCE THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN THEY HAD TO DO THIS FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. ON 9/1/2012 THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR ALSO FAILED TO DISENGAGE THE LOCK. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS REPAIRED YET. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT. LUCKILY BOTH TIMES WE WERE PARKED, BUT IF IT HAD BEEN AN EMERGENCY VALUABLE TIME WOULD HAVE BEEN WASTED IN TRYING TO GET A NON-FUNCTIONING DOOR TO OPEN. *TR
I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A HONDA ODYSSEY 2006 EX-L, I HAVE RELIGIOUSLY MAINTAINED IT AND HAVE USED HONDA FILTERS, OILS AND LUBRICANTS, HAVE DONE OIL CHANGES EVERY 7,500 PER HONDA MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE AND REPLACED TRANNY FLUID EVERY 15,000 MILES, ESPECIALLY AFTER KNOWING THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH PREVIOUS ODYSSEY'S AND CURRENT ONES. AT 52,000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE A BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT (KNOWN ISSUE THAT HONDA WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE) THANKFULLY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED IT. AT 90,700 (MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 85,200 MILES) MY TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING A WHINING NOISE (I HAVE HAD 2 INDEPENDENT MECHANICS AND A HONDA DEALERSHIP VERIFY THE TRANNY IS GOING SOUTH). IN ADDITION TO THE MOTOR MOUNT AND TRANSMISSION ISSUES, THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD RECALLS TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKE PADS, BRAKE MASTER "O" RING, POWER STEERING PUMP AND PAINT PEELING. FOR A $33K VEHICLE, IT SURE IS A LEMON. *TR
ENGINE OF THIS VEHICLE ALWAYS MADE JET ENGINE LIKE LOUD SOUND BUT WITH TIME ENGINE ROAR IS GETTING LOUDER AND LOUDER AT HIGHWAY SPEED ABOVE 65 MPH. IT IS NOW ANNOYING LOUD. DEALER WANTS $140 FOR TELLING US IF THIS NOISE FOR THIS VEHICLE IS NORMAL OR OUR PARTICULAR VEHICLE IS THE ONLY LOUDER ONE. *TR
SIDE AND REAR MOTOR MOUNTS FAILED. PREVIOUSLY NOTED PROBLEM DUE TO INCREASED VIBRATION WHEN MOTOR SHIFTS FROM 6 TO 4 CYLINDERS. *JS
FAILURE OF EXHAUST SYSTEM HEAT SHIELDS COULD CAUSE VEHICLE FIRE. CONSUMER HAS NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT THE SAFETY SHIELDS ARE NO LONGER IN PLACE. DEALER INDICATED EXHAUST SYSTEM HEAT SHIELDS WERE LOOSE AND MISSING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. DEALER INDICATED FAILURE TO REPLACE COULD RESULT IN MELTING OF INSULATION ON ELECTRICAL WIRES. I FEEL THE HEAT SHIELDS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED USING STAINLESS STEEL TO PREVENT CORROSION AND LOSS OF THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE. AT $615 TO REPLACE, IT IS UNLIKELY MANY PEOPLE WILL HAVE THIS WORK PERFORMED, ESPECIALLY AS THE VEHICLE AGES. THERE ARE NORMAL/EXPECTED SAFETY FEATURES THAT CAR OWNERS EXPECT TO REPLACE (TIRES, WIPER BLADES AND BULBS). THE CONSUMER HAS NO WAY OF KNOWING IF THE SAFETY SHIELDS HAVE FALLEN FROM THE VEHICLE. WHEN CONTACTING HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE I WAS TOLD IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP THE CAR OPERATING IN A SAFE MANNER. BUT IF I WAS NOT TOLD (BY THE DEALER) THAT I HAD A SAFETY ISSUE, I WOULD HAVE HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING. THERE ARE LIKELY MANY OTHER UNSUSPECTING ODYSSEY OWNERS WITH THIS POTENTIAL SAFETY/FIRE HAZARD. *TR
TRAVELLING ON VACTION ON FREEWAY AT 100KM ( 60 MPH ) WHEN MY TRANSMISSION WENT ON MY HONDA ODYSSEY. SMOKE FROM UNDER HOOD, ENGINE STARTED TO REV UP AND TACOMETER REVED UP BASCIALLY ENOUGH FUNCTION TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF FREEWAY. WE HAD TOWED TO HONDA WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE THAT I HAVENT EVEN OWNED FOR 5YRS AT THE TIME AND ONLY 120000KM (75000MILES) THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GONE AND WOULD COST ME $5000 TO REPAIR. WE HAD OUR VAN TOWED BACK TO OUR LOCAL DEALER (2HRS AWAY AND ACROSS US BOARDER BACK TO CANADA) WHERE THEY CHARGED US $3700 DO TO US KEEPING UP WITH ALL SERVICES. AFTER ALL COST TO HAVE RETURNED HOME AND OUR FAMILY OF SIX RETURNED HOME I PAID $4500 OUT OF MY POCKET ON A VEHICLE IM STILL MAKING $600 A MONTH PAYMENTS ON. UNACCCEPTABLE. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, MY CAR WON'T GO INTO REVERSE. *TT
AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR LEAK CAUSED BY SMALL STONE REQUIRING COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. *TR
BLOWN ENGINE. NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE EXCEPT FOR IMMEDIATELY BEFORE, WHEN WE NOTICED THE ENGINE OVER HEATING. CHECKED IT A WHILE LATER, AND ALL THE ENGINE OIL WAS IN THE RADIATOR! WILL NEED A NEW ENGINE AND RADIATOR. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT WAS ABLE TO BE UNLATCHED BY A PASSENGER AND THE SEAT BELT THEN RETRACTED AND STARTED CHOKING THE PASSENGER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SEAT BELT WAS ACTING AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE SEAT BELTS POSED A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THEY AUTOMATICALLY RETRACTED AND WOULD NOT STOP. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 123,000.
MY 2006 LX HONDA ODYSSEY WITH 72,000 MILES HAD BOTH FRONT ENGINE MOUNTS FAIL. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED TO CREATE THIS PROBLEM. REPAIR BILL IS ESTIMATED AT $ 500. *KB
THE ENGINE MOUNT IN MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY IS DAMAGED AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED. THIS HAS CREATED DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
I WAS TOLD AT A 90,000 MILE SERVICE THAT MY REAR MOTOR MOUNT IS CRACKING. THIS SEEMS AWFULLY EARLY FOR THIS PROBLEM. FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWED A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ON VARIOUS CAR-BASED WEBSITES.
EVERY TIME IT IS RAINING AND CAR GOES THROUGH A PUDDLE THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR LOOSES POWER STEERING. HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND WHEN GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WAS NOT RAINING AT THE TIME. THEY STATED THEY COULD REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP & RESERVOIR AND IT MIGHT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING ON QUITE A FEW OF THE HONDA VEHICLES. I KNOW ANOTHER PERSON WHO OWNS THEY EXACT SAME MODEL AND YEAR AND THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. LAST FEW TIMES IT RAINED POWER STEERING WENT OUT 5-7 TIMES DURING A 20 MIN DRIVE SO THE NUMBER OF TIMES IS INCREASING. *TT
SUDDEN ACCELERATION. MOTOR BEGAN RACING AT A STOP SIGN, AT FIRST THOUGHT THAT MY VEHICLE'S BRAKES HAD FAILED AS IT LURCHED FORWARD. WAS ABLE TO PUT NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF ENGINE. *TR
DRIVING ON 2 LANE HIGHWAY WITH MY 3 KIDS IN THE VAN. THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON AND I HEAR A FEW BRIEF CLUNKS FROM ENGINE AREA. THEN I REALIZE I HAVE NO POWER STEERING SO I STOP QUICKLY AT A SAFE SPOT. I LOOK AT THE ENGINE AND SEE THE ACCESSORY BELT THAT DRIVES POWER STEERING PUMP, ALTERNATOR, AND A/C IS LOOSE. I SEE THAT THE OUTER RING ON THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY IS MISSING AND ONLY SEE RUBBER ON ITS OUTSIDE. IT'S OVER 100 DEG.F OUTSIDE AND WE'RE 10 MILES FROM ANYTHING. I CALL A FEW TOWING COMPANIES AND FIND ONE THAT CAN SHOW UP WITHIN AN HOUR. WE WAIT AND ALSO GET A HOLD OF A FRIEND TO PICK US UP AFTER THE TOW TRUCK SHOWS UP. THEY TOW IT TO OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACES THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY AND DRIVE BELT. TOWING WAS $153.40 AND REPAIR AT DEALER WAS $349.56. LOSING POWER STEERING ON NARROW TWO LANE HIGHWAY GOING 55 MPH IS UNSAFE AND THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY SHOULD NOT FAIL EVEN AT 111K MILES. I HAVE OWNED THE VAN SINCE NEW AND HAVE ALL PROPER MAINTENANCE DONE (PREVENTIVELY REPLACED ACCESSORY BELT BEFORE AND TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP). *KB
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EXL (69,659 MILES) - BROKEN REAR MOTOR MOUNT, SPECIAL DESIGN MOTOR MOUNT ($556.43 FOR PART AND $685.21 INSTALLED). UNUSUAL AND VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR FOR A CAR WITH RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE. HAVE NOT HAD TO REPLACE MOTOR MOUNT ON ANY CAR SINCE THE 1970S. CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY HONDA DEALER AND NO PRIOR INDICATION OF ANY PROBLEMS WHEN UNDER WARRANTY. DEEP RUMBLING NOISE, SIMILAR TO A HOLE IN AN EXHAUST PIPE, FROM FRONT ENGINE AREA WAS ONLY SYMPTOM. BASED ON REPORTS ON INTERNET, BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS ARE A VERY COMMON AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM WITH HONDA ODYSSEYS (AND ACCORDS). THIS IS THE FIFTH HONDA AND THE THIRD HONDA ODYSSEY THAT WE HAVE OWNED AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. HAD I BEEN AWARE OF THIS MOTOR MOUNT PROBLEM I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BOUGHT A TOYOTA VAN. DESPITE THE UNWARRANTED BAD RAP THAT TOYOTA SUFFERED RECENTLY FOR ACCELERATION PROBLEMS THAT ARE JUST AS COMMON IN GENERAL MOTORS CARS, I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE FOUR TOYOTAS WE HAVE OWNED, AND TOYOTA DID FAR MORE THAN THEY PROBABLY HAD TO, TO ADDRESS THE ALLEGED PROBLEM. MY NEXT CAR WILL NOT BE A HONDA. *KB
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SLOW MOTION OR TRYING TO PARK POSITION, THE STEERING IS VERY TIGHT AND UNABLE TO HANDLE THE VEHICLE. BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AFTER HONDA ODYSSEY RECALL. DEALER SAYS THAT THIS IS NORMAL. *TR
RECENTLY I HAVE FELT A "SHUDDERING" AT SPEEDS BELOW 40MPH. I TAKE IT TO THE SHOP FOR THAT PROBLEM AS WELL AS ANOTHER ISSUE WITH MY POWER SLIDING DOORS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY DOORS. I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE MOTOR IN THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR(WHICH WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY AT THE TIME). AND NOW I AM LOOKING AT REPLACING POWER DOOR CENTER ROLLERS IN BOTH POWER SLIDING DOORS AT AN ESTIMATED $560.00 (AND NO LONGER HAVE WARRANTY). SINCE I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IT HAS BEEN A HASSLE WITH THE POWER SLIDING DOORS. THEY CLOSED HALF WAY ON MY CHILDREN GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE CAR ALL THE TIME. AND DON'T WORK THE OTHER HALF OF THE TIME. THE ISSUE WITH THE "SHUDDERING" IS DUE TO FRONT AND REAR ENGINE MOUNTS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AT AN ESTIMATED $1355.00. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS THAT ALOT OF THE 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY'S HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND SOME HAPPENING AGAIN SHORTLY AFTER IT HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED ONCE. I THINK THAT HONDA SHOULD DO A RECALL ON THE "DEFECTIVE ENGINE MOUNTS". THIS CANNOT BE SAFE TO RIDE IN. I HAVE ALSO READ THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND IS CALLING IT A "KNOWN ISSUE" BUT STILL NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM OR REIMBURSING PEOPLE THE COST OF REPAIRS. HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS OR EVEN GET INJURED BEFORE HONDA WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT??? *KB
REAR AUTOMATIC DOOR WOULD OPEN THEN SLAM DOWN A BIT THEN REOPEN,SLAM,REOPEN AND THEN ON THIRD TRY SLAM SHUT. MY WIFE WAS UNDER THE DOOR THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED AND THE DOOR SLAMMED ON HER. NOW I SEE A RECALL OF 08,09 MODELS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. HAD TO HAVE REAR STRUTS REPLACED. NEED TO EXPAND RECALL.
HONDA ODYSSEY BRAKE RECALL MADE THE PEDAL FEEL WORSE AND PUT OUR LIVES IN JEOPARDY WHEN ALL THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKED OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN APPROXIMATELY THIRTY MINUTES AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE STEERING WHEEL REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE TO MAKE TURNS DURING THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR WAS NOT LARGE ENOUGH TO MAINTAIN AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RESERVOIR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH A LARGER VERSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,700. HONDA HAS RELEASED A SERVICE BULLETIN AND HONDA HAD ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE INDEED IS A PROBLEM AND WILL FIX IT ONLY IF THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. UPDATED 09/14/2011 *LN UPATED 12/19/11 *TR

1) NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE 2) AIR CONDITIONER SIMPLY STOPS BLOWING COLD AIR 3) RECHARGE. DIDN'T FIX. DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TELLING ME THAT A ROCK HIT THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR $1200. MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO OTHER CUSTOMERS. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EXL TRANSMISSION SHUDDER. EITHER A FAILING TORQUE CONVERTER OR TRANSMISSION. I AM WRITING IN CONCERN TO MY ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION. I HAVE HAD A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERING BETWEEN 20-40 MPH. AS IT SHUDDERS THERE IS ALSO A DROP IN RPM'S. I HAVE SPOKE WITH (2) OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME MODEL YEAR ODYSSEY AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I HAVE LOCATED 1000'S OF BLOGS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS TO ME IS RAISES A CONCERN. THIS IS NOT NORMALLY WEAR AND TEAR FOR A TRANSMISSION. THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT HONDA ISN'T ADDRESSING. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS IN THE PAST, ISSUED BY NHTSA, IN REGARDS TO HONDA TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THESE PROBLEMS DON'T EVER SEEMED TO BE FIXED. BASED UPON THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ABOUT, THE (2), OTHER THAN MINE, THAT I HAVE PERSONALLY HEARD ABOUT MAKES ME FEEL AS THERE SHOULD BE SOME TYPE OF INTERACTION WITH YOUR AGENCY. HONDA CONTINUES TO BLOW OFF THE ISSUE AND SAY IT ISN'T A PROBLEM. TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD LAST WAY LONGER THAN 60-80K MILES. I HAVE REPLACED THE BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT LIFTGATE STRUTS ON OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. NOW THE RIGHT REPLACEMENT STRUT HAS FAILED. THAT'S THREE FAILURES IN UNDER TWO YEARS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED STEAM COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER WAS REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000. ....UPDATED 06/18/12 *BF UPDATED 06/22/12
TRYING TO CLOSE THE REAR PASSENGER-SIDE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR, IT WOULD CLOSE HALF-WAY, START BEEPING AND OPEN UP AGAIN. IT WOULD DO THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN, UNTIL IT FINALLY CLOSED SEVERAL TRIES LATER. TURNING THE AUTOMATIC FUNCTION OFF WOULD NOT HELP. WHEN PUTTING IT ON MANUAL FUNCTION, THE DOOR WOULD JAM AND LITERALLY NOT BUDGE. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT JUST STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. THE LAST TIME WE ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE DOOR, IT ENDED UP REMAINING OPEN FOR THE ENTIRE DAY BECAUSE IT WAS LITERALLY JAMMED IN THE OPEN POSITION. THANKFULLY IT WAS IN OUR DRIVEWAY! WE HAVEN'T OPENED IT SINCE. MOVING FORWARD TO LAST MONTH, NOVEMBER 2012. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AUTOMATIC DOOR STARTED SQUEAKING UPON OPENING AND CLOSING. A WEEK LATER, IT TOO WAS REFUSING TO SHUT. THIS TIME I WAS AT A GROCERY STORE AND ENDED UP STRANDED IN THE PARKING LOT WITH MY 6 YEAR OLD FOR OVER AN HOUR BEFORE I COULD FINALLY GET THE DOOR TO SHUT. IT IS WINTER AND THUS, VERY COLD THESE DAYS. I AM NOW HAVING TO LOAD MY KIDS IN THE VAN FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OR THROUGH THE TRUNK. I DON'T DARE OPEN EITHER AUTOMATIC DOOR. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVE SEEN THIS EXACT SCENARIO WITH TOO MANY OTHER HONDA ODYSSEY OWNERS. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BEING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, DEPENDING ON WHERE PEOPLE ARE WHEN THE DOORS REFUSE TO CLOSE. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE AMERICAN HONDA DATED SUMMER 2011, REGARDING THE WARRANTY EXTENSION OF THE "STEERING WHEEL IS HARD TO TURN AT LOW SPEEDS AND ENGINE RPM." THE TERM IS UP TO 7 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES. I BOUGHT MY VAN IN AUGUST OF 2006, HOWEVER, SINCE I DRIVE ALMOST 100 MILES A DAY (HOME TO WORK), I HAVE MORE THAN 100,000. HERE IS MY CONCERN, I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAID PROBLEM (REGARDING THE STEERING WHEELS IS HARD TO TURN) IN THE HONDA DEALER IN CORONA EVEN BEFORE RECEIVING THIS LETTER, BUT ALL THEY SAID THAT IT COULD BE RELATED TO COLD WEATHER. LATER ON ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO, THEY SAID THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACE. RIGHT AFTER I RECEIVED THIS LETTER FROM AMERICAN HONDA, I GAVE THEM A CALL AND TOLD THEM THAT I'M ALREADY HAVING THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, AND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I WAS BROKE. I ASKED THEM IF I CAN BRING MY VAN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP EVENTHOUGH MY MILEAGE NOW IS MORE THAN WHAT THEY WANT WHICH IS 100,000 MILES. THEY SAID, THEY CAN'T HELP ME BECAUSE THEY ARE STRICT ON WARRANTY EXTENSION. AND, SINCE MY MILEAGE IS NOW 165,000 MILES, THEY CAN'T HELP ME EVEN IF THE YEARS QUALIFIES ME. THEY SAID TO CONTACT MY LOCAL DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND WHERE I BRING MY CAR FOR REPAIR AND SEE IF THEY CAN GIVE ME A DISCOUNT TO FIX IT. THE POINT IS IT IS NOT FAIR FOR THEM TO SET A LIMIT ON THEIR WARRANTY BECAUSE THIS IS AN OBVIOUS FACTORY DEFECT. THEY SHOULD HAVE COVERED THE ODYSSEY 2006 REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE BECAUSE BASED ON THIS LETTER, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS A LOT OF COMPLAINS ABOUT IT. ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY STARTED MAKING LOW FREQUENCY SOUND WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. AFTER VISITING THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT REAR MOTOR MOUNT HAS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1000. I DID RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND IT APPEARS THAT MANY 2005 AND LATER ODYSSEYS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WHICH POINTS TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. HONDA IS REFUSING TO REPLACE THE PART EVEN THOUGH THEIR REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH BRAKES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. IT WOULD CONTINUE TO TRAVEL. THERE WAS ALSO A NOISE PRESENT WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. SOON AFTER PURCHASING OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EX I NOTICED A SHUDDER WHEN I WAS GOING SLOWLY IN TRAFFIC. IT HAD TROUBLE SHIFTING UP. USUALLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS I'M ONLY GOING BETWEEN 30-45. I BROUGHT MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY INTO THE DEALER FOR A BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER RECALL. UNBEKNOWNST TO ME I WAS INFORMED THAT 2 MOTOR MOUNTS ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $1350. THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE ODYSSEY AND NOT PART OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE. AN ONLINE SEARCH REVEALS THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VAN ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME SITUATION. I THOUGHT HONDA WAS KNOWN FOR SAFETY BUT IT APPEARS IT HAS ALSO EARNED THE REPUTATION FOR DEFECTIVE MOTOR MOUNTS. AT WHAT POINT WILL HONDA BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT JEOPARDIZES THE SAFETY OF ITS RIDERS? MY VAN HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES AND IS JUST OVER THE 5 YEAR MARK, SO IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. AS LONG AS HONDA IS ALLOWED TO DEFER THE COST OF THIS REPAIR TO ITS OWNERS IT WILL. HOPEFULLY IT WON'T TAKE SOMEONE TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BEFORE THE APPROPRIATE ACTION IS TAKEN. ITS PRETTY OBVIOUS A RECALL IS LONG OVERDUE. *TR
AC CONDENSER CRACKED AND CAUSED THE AIR CONDITIONER TO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. DEALER STATED DAMAGE DUE TO ROAD DEBRIS HITTING AC CONDENSER. HONDA ORIGINAL DESIGN HAS CONDENSER EXPOSED AT FRONT BUMPER. DEALER REPAIR INCLUDED NEW CONDENSER AND HEAVY GAUGE WIRE SCREEN TO PROTECT CONDENSER FROM FUTURE DAMAGE. CLEARLY HONDA KNOWS THEY HAVE A POOR VEHICLE DESIGN AND IS COVERTLY ADDRESSING THE ISSUE AT CUSTOMER AND INSURANCE COMPANY EXPENSE. DEALERS ARE ENCOURAGING CUSTOMERS TO FILE INSURANCE CLAIMS FOR ROAD DAMAGE. REPAIR COST WAS $722, WITH $415 FOR THE CONDENSER. THANKFULLY OR SAFETY WAS NOT IN JEOPARDY. SINCE OUR HONDA ODYSSEY MODEL YEAR, HONDA HAS CHANGED DESIGN TO INCLUDE A THINK PLASTIC INSERT INTO THE FRONT BUMPER TO PROTECT THE CONDENSER. VAN IS 2006 WITH LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. IT IS DRIVEN MOSTLY IN THE CITY. THE DAMAGE APPEARED IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING AN OIL CHANGE AT HONDA ON GRAND IN ELMHURST. PRIOR TO THE OIL CHANGE, THE VAN WAS NOT LEAKING ANY FLUIDS. POST OIL CHANGE, THE CONDENSER STARTED LEAKING. AT FIRST, THE DEALER THOUGHT IT WAS OIL LEAKING. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM A WEEK LATER AFTER FLUID CONTINUED TO DRIP AND LEAVE LARGE SPOTS ON THE DRIVEWAY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT HER CHILD BECAME ENTANGLED IN THE THIRD ROW PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT. THE SEAT BELT WAS NOT BUCKLED AND THE CONTACT HAD TO CUT THE SEAT BELT WITH A KNIFE IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE SEAT BELT BECAUSE THE CHILD COULD NOT BREATH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I WENT IN TO A HUGGINS HONDA, A LOCAL DEALER IN HURST, TX TO SERVICE A RECALLED BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACEMENT IN MY 2006 ODYSSEY EXL WITH 80,000 MILES, WHILE AT THE VAN WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME TO NOTIFY ME THAT THEY NOTICED THAT TWO MOTOR MOUNTS ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FRONT AND SIDE MOTOR MOUNT CAN BE REPLACED FOR ABOUT $1220 AND $216 + TAX RESPECTIVELY. HE INDICATED THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON ON HONDA ODYSSEY VANS AND NOT PART OF A RECALL OR REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I ASKED IF IT WAS "VERY" COMMON IN HONDA VANS AND NOT PART OF NORMAL MAINTENANCE, WHY IS IT NOT FIX FOR FREE SINCE IT SEEM UNCOMMON FOR MOTOR MOUNT TO GO BAD THAT EARLY IN THE VEHICLE'S LIFE? HE INDICATED THAT HE DID NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO FIX IT FREE ON THE VEHICLE BUT WANTED TO LET ME KNOW THAT IT DOES NEED TO BE FIXED. I DID A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT PRE-MATURE MOTOR MOUNT FAILURE IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH HONDA ODYSSEY VANS DATING BACK TO EARLY 2000 MODELS. IF THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE, WHY DID HONDA NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH THE NEWER MODELS AND WHY NOT FIX THE ISSUE FOR ODYSSEY OWNERS? I THINK THAT HONDA SHOULD FIX THE ISSUE WITH CURRENT OWNERS AND ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH NEWER MODELS. *TR
DURING ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION, THE STEERING AND TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS BETWEEN 30 AND 45 MPH. WHEN THIS CONDITION HAPPENS, THE VEHICLE BECOMES DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND CAN EASILY BECOME UNSAFE. WHILE ACCELERATING, THE VEHICLE CAN SHUDDER AND EASILY SHIFT TO ONE SIDE. THIS CONDITION HAS OCCURRED OVER THE PAST YEAR. IT IS NOW HAPPENING REPEATEDLY AND WITH INCREASING SEVERITY. I HAVE REPLACED TIRES AND CHECKED ALIGNMENT. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED BRAKES AND TURNED ROTORS. THE DEALER INDICATED TODAY THAT THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION. *KB

CONSUMER STATES HE NOTICED BRAKES MADE NOISE EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WENT TO A SLOW STOP AND RUBBING/GROANING WHEN BRAKING DOWNHILL *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AFTER THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY REPLACED THE PADS AND MACHINED THE ROTORS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A PERSONAL MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THE DEALER ONLY LOOKED ON THE INSIDE OF TIRES AND DIDN'T REMOVE THE TIRES TO LOOK MORE IN DEPTH TO CHECK THE BRAKES. THE MECHANIC FOUND THE BRAKES WERE RUBBING THE ROTORS, SO HE REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND POLISHED THE ROTORS. *JB
MOTOR MOUNTS ON HONDA ODYSSEY ARE DEFECTIVE IN DESIGN, RESULTING IN FREQUENT, EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT. BEFORE THE MOUNTS DIE, THEY ALLOW THE MOTOR TO JERK AGAINST THE TRANSMISSION, AND COULD RESULT IN DANGEROUS FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. *TR
