TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST ACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SECURE MY CHILD INTO HIS CAR SEAT, THE RIGHT SIDE DOOR SLAMMED INTO MY ARM, CAUSING EXTENSIVE BRUISING. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THE DOOR HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING. I HAVE FREQUENT ISSUES KEEPING THE DOOR OPENED WHILE TRYING TO SECURE MY CHILDREN IN THEIR SEATS. DOOR WILL NOT JUST STAY OPENED. *TR

BRAKE IS SOFT ONLY 40,000 MILE VERY SOFT BRAKE HONDA DOES NOT WANNA REPLACE PARTS SO PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS ISSUE THANKS. *TR
AFTER DRIVING FOR SEVERAL MILES AND APPLY THE BRAKES IT MAKES A GRINDING SOUND. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER SHIP SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND COULD NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE PADS WERE CHECKED EACH TIME AND WERE IN VERY GOOD SHAPE. *TT
FAILURE OF SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER PULLEY SHAFT RESULTED IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING CONTROL FOLLOWING ENGINE START IN A PARKING LOT. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED A FEW DAYS AFTER THE CAR WAS SERVICED FOR REPLACEMENT OF TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP, WHICH REQUIRED REMOVAL AND REINSTALLATION OF THE TENSIONER PULLEY. THE QUESTION IS WHETHER THE SHAFT FAILURE WAS THE RESULT OF OVERTORQUE FOLLOWING THE SERVICE, OR THE RESULT OF A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. THE CONCERN IS A FAILURE IN TRAFFIC RATHER THAN AT LOW SPEED IN A PARKING LOT. THIS SHAFT IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. *TR
BRAKES ARE EXTREMELY SOFT AND SPONGY, PEDAL SOMETIMES HAS TO BE PRESSED COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR TO ENGAGE PROPER BRAKING, NEARLY CAUSING A CRASH ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. TAKES MUCH LONGER THAN IT SHOULD TO STOP THE VEHICLE. PUMPING BRAKE PEDAL ALLOWS FOR BETTER BRAKING, AS IF THERE WAS AIR IN THE LINE. RECALL WORK COMPLETED IN AUGUST 2011 FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE WHERE AIR COULD BUILD UP IN SYSTEM, BUT IT DID NOT FIX ISSUE. TWO VISITS TO HONDA SERVICE CENTER AND THEY INDICATE NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM AFTER MULTIPLE TESTS. DEALER ADVISED THAT PREVIOUS RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED CORRECTLY. DEALER ADVISES THAT THEY TESTED AGAINST OTHER ODYSSEY'S AND ALL APPEAR TO BRAKE THE SAME, SO THERE IS NO ISSUE. GOOGLE INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS MODEL YEAR AND SIMILAR CLAIMS FROM VARIOUS HONDA DEALERS THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR
ON AUGUST 6, 2011 I TOOK MY 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY (33,2281 MILES) IN TO BE LOOKED AT BECAUSE THERE WAS A LEAK UNDER MY VEHICLE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT TORQUE OIL SHAFT CONVERTER/TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING. UPON REPAIR, I GOT HOME, AND WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK MY VAN BACK TO HONDA ON AUGUST 11, 2011, ONLY TO HAVE THEM DETERMINE THAT DURING THE INITIAL REPAIR THEY HAD BROKE ONE OF THE SEALS DURING THE INSTALL. THEY KEPT MY VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER 3 DAYS, AND GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR DURING THIS TIME. ON NOVEMBER 4, 2011 (33,946) I TOOK MY CAR BACK IN TO HONDA BECAUSE MY STEERING WHEEL HAD BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN, AND THERE WAS OIL LEAKING FROM UNDER MY VAN AGAIN. THE STEERING ISSUE AND THE OIL WERE BOTH REPAIRED AGAIN. MY VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME ON NOVEMBER 7, 2011. ON FRIDAY MARCH 3, 2012 (35,650 MILES)I TOOK MY VAN BACK IN TO HONDA BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS SLING-SHOOTING AND HAVING VERY ROUGH TRANSITIONS IN SHIFTING GEARS IN LOW SPEEDS 35-45 MPH. ON MARCH 4, 2012 HONDA INFORMED ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS FLARE SHIFTING AND HAD COMPLETE INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE, AND THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. TO DATE, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT BECAUSE IT IS OVER 36 MONTHS, (BUT STILL UNDER 36,000 MILES) IT MAY NOT BE COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY, AND THAT THEY CANNOT PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL THIS TIME. THREE TRANSMISSION ISSUES, BRAKE ISSUES, STEERING ISSUES, ETC LATER I AM WITHOUT A VEHICLE AGAIN. I'D SAY THIS IS A LEMON. HELP! *TR
POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED ON HONDA ODYSSEY 2008 WITH 35,964 MILES ON IT. THIS RESULTED IN DIFFICULTIES TURNING STEERING WHEEL. THE PUMP WAS REPLACED BY THE HONDA DEALER FOR $757. *KB
MY VAN MAKES A LOUD METALLIC GRINDING NOISE AFTER THE FIRST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING. REPEATED VISITS TO DEALERSHIP (AND AFTER A BRAKE PAD CHANGE) HAVE PRODUCED NO CHANGE. HONDA MASTER TECHNICIANS TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE TWICE AND HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED ISSUE AND CLAIM THAT THERE IS NO KNOWN PROBLEM OR RECALL. THEY HAVE BASICALLY SAID THAT THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. SEVERAL WEBSITES AND DISCUSSION BOARDS POINT TO THIS SAME ISSUE AND LACK OF ACTION FROM HONDA. MY LAST CONVERSATION WITH HONDA WAS ALSO UNPRODUCTIVE - THE BEST THEY COULD RECOMMEND WAS TO TAKE THE MATTER TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP. ALL MY VEHICLE SERVICING INCLUDING EVERY RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE AND VARIOUS LEVELS OF SERVICE HAVE BEEN AT HONDA DEALERSHIPS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SUBSTANTIAL MANUFACTURING / MECHANICAL DEFECT AND COULD ALSO CAUSE SAFETY ISSUES GOING FORWARD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TAILGATE DOOR CLOSED ON HIM UNEXPECTEDLY. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
2008 HONDA ODYSSEY - BRAKES ENGAGE BY THEMSELVES. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. TRAVELING AT SPEED LIMIT (~45 MPH) AND SUDDENLY THE VANS BRAKE PEDAL ENGAGES AND STOPS THE CAR BY ITSELF. DEALER FLUSHED BRAKE LINE AND REFILLED - SAID IT COULD BE CAUSED BY AIR IN THE LINE. DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO UNLESS THEY COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
TODAY I RAN INTO A POLE IN THE PARKING LOT AS I WAS PARKING. MY BRAKES HAVEN'T WORKED PROPERLY IN OVER 2 YEARS. MY 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS RECALLED IN 2010 FOR AIR IN THE BRAKES VSA MODULATOR SYSTEM. I DID HAVE THIS REPLACED BY HONDA DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER WITH IN 6 MONTHS MY VANS BRAKES ARE STILL SOFT. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I AM INCHES AWAY FROM A VEHICLE BEFORE IT STOPS. THIS ISSUE HAS ME WORRIED FOR MY SAFETY. I HAVE TAKING IT TO THE HONDA REPAIR DEPT AND WAS TOLD EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE. I KNOW THERE IS AN ISSUE. WHEN YOU GO TO S TOP YOUR VEHICLE SHOULDN'T FINALLY STOP WITH IN INCHES OF ITS DESTINATION. THE BRAKES PERIODICALLY MAKE A SCREECHING SOUND. AS I HAVE TOLD MY LOCAL HONDA SERVICE DEPT, I AM MAKING A FORMAL COMPLAINT ABOUT THE BRAKES AND HOPE I DON'T HAVE TO RELY ON THIS ONE DAY IN COURT DUE TO INJURY! PLEASE, JUST FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND FIX MY BRAKES!!! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR CONDITIONER CRACKED SPONTANEOUSLY, AS A RESULT SMOKE WAS EMITTED FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND THE BATTERY POWER WAS DRAINING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONDENSER COMPRESSOR CLUTCH AND THE COOLANT CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING AT APROX. 40-45 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY BRAKES BY HIS OWN. I SAW THE BRAKE PEDAL MOVING BY ITSELF ! I GOT SCARED BY THE CONSEQUENCES OR THE RISK OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT. ON THE WAY TO MY HOME IT HAPPENED TWO (2) MORE TIMES WHILE GETTING SPEED. WENT TO THE DEALER BUT THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. ONE WEEK BEFORE THE INCIDENT THE DEALER REPLACED TWO FRONT BRAKE PADS AND CUT THE FRONT ROTORS BECAUSE THE CAR VIBRATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE ROTORS WERE ATTENDED BEFORE. BEFORE THIS INCIDENT THE VSA LIGHT TURNED ON TWO TIMES WHILE STEPPING THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE USED TO VIBRATE. I'M CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF MY KIDS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED METAL SHAVINGS WITHIN THE POWER STEERING FLUID. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
THE LATCH BELT OF MY RADIAN XTSL IS CONSISTENTLY LOOSENING ITSELF. IT DOES NOT STAY TIGHT. THE ADJUSTER SITS ON THE EDGE OF THE SEAT WHEN INSTALLED REAR FACING IN MY '08 ODYSSEY, AND THE WEIGHT OF MY 34 POUND DAUGHTER GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE SEAT CAUSES THE HARNESS TO LOOSEN. I TIGHTENED IT YESTERDAY, AND TODAY, THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE SLACK IN THE BELT. (RELATED VEHICLE INFORMATION: MODEL YEAR=2008, MAKE=HONDA, MODEL=ODYSSEY). *TR
THIS IS FOR A SUNSHINE KIDS RADIAN XTSL CAR SEAT. I AM VERY CAPABLE OF INSTALLING CAR SEATS CORRECTLY SO I KNOW THAT THE CAR SEAT WAS INSTALLED PER THE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS. THE CAR SEAT WAS INSTALLED REAR FACING WITH LATCH WITH LESS THAN 1/2" OF MOVEMENT. IT HAD BEEN PROPERLY INSTALLED AND TIGHT FOR OVER A MONTH. ON THIS DAY WHEN I WENT TO BUCKLE MY CHILD IN I NOTICED THAT THE LATCH STRAP HAD LOOSENED CONSIDERABLY TO THE POINT WHERE THE CAR SEAT WAS LEANING TO ONE SIDE AND COULD MOVE FREELY AT THE BELT PATH. I RE-TIGHTENED THE LATCH STRAP AND IT AGAIN FELT TIGHT. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME WITH THIS CAR SEAT IN MY CAR. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES WHEN THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE TO EITHER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V098000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR). THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER INSPECTED NOR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
FIRST INCIDENT (APRIL 2011) - WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, THE ENGINE HAD IRREGULAR BEATS. THEN, A BLINKING CHECK ENGINE SIGN WAS ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALER SERVICE DEPT. (AS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUAL). THE LOCAL DEALER SERVICE DEPT. REPLACED ONE SPARK PLUG AND CLEANED ANOTHER ONE. SECOND INCIDENT (OCT. 13, 2011) - THE SAME AS THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING. THIS TIME VEHICLE STABILITY ACTIVATION (VSA) WAS ALSO TURNED ON AS THE IRREGULAR ENGINE BEATS MADE THE VEHICLE VIBRATING SIGNIFICANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME LOCAL HONDA DEALER SERVICE DEPT. AGAIN. THE LOCAL DEALER SERVICE DEPT. INFORMED ME THAT THE SAME SPARK PLUGS (REPLACED AND CLEANED DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT) ARE MALFUNCTIONING AGAIN. AND THE SERVICE DEPT. INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY THE SAME INCIDENT WAS OCCURRING AGAIN. SO IT NEEDS TO CONSULT WITH A NATIONAL TECHNICAL SUPPORT WITHIN HONDA ORGANIZATION. CONSEQUENTLY, I SUSPECT THAT THE INCIDENTS MAY BE DUE TO PROBLEMS IN ELECTRICAL OR COMPUTER CONTROLLED PROGRAM RELATED RATHER THAN THE SPARK PLUG ITSELF. I AM VERY CONCERNS ABOUT THE CURRENT SYMPTOM WITH MY VEHICLE WHICH MAY POTENTIALLY LEAD TO SUDDEN ENGINE STOP OR MALFUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEED TRAVEL. *TR
THE TETHER STRAP OF MY TRUE FIT PREMIER (MODEL C670-BAR, DOM 2/23/09) HAS BENT, AND YOU CANNOT BEND IT BACK. HERE IS A PHOTO OF THE BENT TETHER HOOK. IN MY SUNSHINE KIDS RADIAN XTSL, WHEN I INSTALL THE SEAT REAR FACING WITH SUPERLATCH, THE EDGE OF THE BELT ADJUSTER HITS THE SIDE OF THE BELT PATH. IF YOU SLIDE THE SEAT SIDE TO SIDE TO CHECK THE INSTALL, IT LOOSENS THE LATCH BELT. THE LATCH BELT IS ALSO RIGHT WERE MY DAUGHTER PUTS HER FEET, AND TWICE, SHE HAS LOOSENED THE BELT WITH HER FOOT. BRAKES AUTOMATICALLY APPLIED DURING ACCELERATION FROM 20-50 WHILE ENTERING BUSY HIGHWAY SLOWING VEHICLE NEARLY TO A STOP. MANAGED TO AVOID APPROACHING TRAFFIC AND LIMP OFF THE HIGHWAY AT THE NEXT EXIT. PROBLEM RECURRED AS I TOOK SIDE ROAD BACK HOME. PROBLEM ALSO RECURRED AS I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE FOLLOWING MORNING. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM OR PROVIDE SOLUTION. PROBLEM PERSISTED AND VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TWO MORE TIMES IN 2011 WITH NO RESOLUTION AS WELL. NOW 2013 WITH OVER 40,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE (OUT OF 36,000 MILE WARRANTY), PROBLEM PERSISTS. DRIVER HAS LEARNED TO PULL OVER AND TURN ENGINE OFF TO RESET ELECTRONICS NECESSARY TO TEMPORARILY OVERCOME THE ISSUE. STILL NO DIAGNOSIS OR RESOLUTION BY DEALERSHIP OR HONDA. THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE CAUSED BY WARPED BRAKE ROTORS, WORN BRAKE PADS, OR AIR IN BRAKE LINES. ECM/PCM SOFTWARE UPDATES IN APR AND MAY 2011 WERE FRUITLESS. I SUSPECT THAT THE PROBLEM IS IN EITHER A SENSOR, A PRIMARY CONTROL UNIT, OR SOFTWARE OPERATING SUCH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED ABNORMALLY INTO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY REPEATED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE ROTORS WERE RESURFACED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
THE PAINT ON THE HOOD AND ROOF OF THIS VEHICLE IS PEELING OFF IN DROVES. LARGE AREAS OF VEHICLE ARE DOWN TO BARE METAL ON BOTH ROOF AND HOOD OF VEHICLE. HONDA SHOULD REPAINT THESE VEHICLES AT NO CHARGE TO CUSTOMER. PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS.
EARLY 2011 AFTER HAVING SOME RECALL REPAIRS DONE IN THE PAST LIKE THE BRAKES, LEAKING FROM THE MOON ROOF AND THE POWER STEERING PROBLEMS, STARTED NOTICING THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING OUT FOR 1-2 DAYS AND THEN THE OIL LIGHT, CHECKED OIL LEVEL AND REFILL WAS DONE BUT DIDN'T NOTICE ANY LEAKING. SUBSEQUENT SERVICES TO THE DEALER TOLD THEM ABOUT THE EVENTS BUT DIDN'T PROVIDED ANY CLEAR REPORT AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING THAT. LIFT GATE SHOCKS GAVE UP AFTER A FEW MONTHS AND HAVE THEM REPLACED FROM THE DEALER, AGAIN NO CLEAR EXPLANATIONS WHY THE IT'S TOO SOON FOR UNEXPECTED POSSIBLE WEAR AND TEAR, ALSO IN ADDITION TO TELLING THEM ABOUT THE POWER STEERING SEEMS TO BE CAUSING A PROBLEM AGAIN BECAUSE IT'S BECOMING HEAVY TO TURN THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN CAUSING A HUGE PROBLEM AND SAFETY CONCERN ESPECIALLY COMING OFF FROM A PARALLEL PARKING BECAUSE IT TAKES A LOT OF MANUEVERING BEFORE I CAN GET OFF FROM THE SPOT AND INVOLVES A GREAT EFFORT ESPECIALLY IN AN INCLINE POSITION. RECENTLY ABOUT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, THE SAME ISSUE CAME IN ABOUT THE ENGINE AND THE OIL LIGHT SHOWING UP, OIL LEVEL WAS LOW AGAIN BUT DOESN'T NOTICED ANY LEAKING. THEN IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, IT'S GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE YOU CAN SMELL THE OIL BURNING AND SOMETIMES THE EXHAUST IS GRAY, A DEAD-TELL OF BURNING OIL. NOW IT WILL NOT PASS SMOG AS OF DEC 2017. WHEN I WAS LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE SMOKING, I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE LAWSUIT AND SETTLEMENT - WE NEVER GOT ANY INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A SETTLEMENT ABOUT THE EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION AND OUR VAN COULD BE FIXED BY HONDA, EVEN BACK WHEN IT WAS JUST USING A LOT OF OIL, BUT NOT SMOKING VISIBLY YET. NOW WE HAVE TO GET IT FIXED TO PASS CA SMOG, BUT HONDA IS MAKING US GO THROUGH MULTIPLE 1000 MILE CONSUMPTION TESTS TO PROVE THERE IS A PROBLEM DESPITE THE FACT THAT YOU CAN SEE AND SMELL THE BURNING OIL IN ADDITION TO THE EXCESS OIL USAGE. I NOTED THAT THIS STARTED IN 2011, BUT IT'S ONGOING, GETTING WORSE AND CULMINATING WITH FAILING SMOG TESTING IN 2017 FOR BURNING OIL.

BACK IN DECEMBER OF 2010, MY HONDA ODYSSEY (VIN# [XXX]) BEGAN TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED RANDOMLY AND INTERMITTENTLY, AND SEEMED TO OCCUR MORE OFTEN AT SLOW SPEEDS. ON 12/21/10, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BLOOMFIELD HONDA, AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING PUMP SYSTEM HAD FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (41,200 MILES ON THE ODOMETER), HONDA REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS SYSTEM AND REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT. IN 2008 I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY (VIRTUALLY THE SAME BODY STYLE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE, VIN#[XXX]). AT APPROXIMATELY 36,000 MILES, THE STEERING PUMP SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, MY RESEARCH LOCATED THAT A SERVICE BULLETIN (10-076) AND MANY, MANY, REFERENCES ON VARIOUS FORUMS, SHOWING THAT HONDA IS CLEARLY AWARE OF THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, SINCE THE PROBLEM HAS GENERALLY OCCURRED OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY COVERAGE, HONDA HAS ESSENTIALLY ESCAPED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS UNLESS/UNTIL CUSTOMERS INDICATE THEY WILL COMPLAIN. 9/27/10: DRIVER'S SIDE HALF AXLE/POWERTRAIN FAILED AT 19,500 MILES AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. 7/15/13 AT 44,550 MILES, BOTH THE REPLACEMENT DRIVER'S SIDE HALF AXLE FAILED AND ALSO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FAILED FOR THE FIRST TIME.
