WHEN REACHING 2000 RPM'S, DURING COOLER WEATHER, THE ODYSSEY MAKES A VERY LOUD HUMMING/VIBRATION. IT APPEARS TO BE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT UNDER CARRIAGE. *TR
AS I ACCELERATED ONTO THE ROAD, MY ODYSSEY BRAKED HARD AND SUDDENLY. THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME, ALSO ACCELERATING, JERKED AND SWERVED AROUND ME TO AVOID COLLISION (THIS SEEN IN REAR VIEW MIRROR). I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED, RESTARTED AND LISTENED TO THE ENGINE, AND LOOKED FOR INDICATOR LIGHTS. I RESUMED DRIVING ONLY TO HAVE THE SUDDEN BRAKING RECUR A MILE UP THE ROAD. AT THAT POINT I SPOKE WITH MY HUSBAND ON THE PHONE AND TURNED OFF THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM. NO FURTHER INCIDENTS SO FAR. *TR
REAR LIFT GATE WAS IN FULLY OPEN POSITION THEN FELL AND HIT ME ON HEAD WHILE REMOVING GROCERIES FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. APPEARS THAT THE LIFT GATE STRUTS FAILED. THE LIFT GATE OPERATES MANUALLY, NOT ELECTRONICALLY OR AUTOMATICALLY. *TR
REAR LIFTGATE STRUTS FAILED CAUSING LIFTGATE TO FALL SUDDENLY ON ME BENEATH THE REAR DOOR. HONDA HAS ALREADY ISSUED A RECALL ON SOME 2008 MODELS. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER AND HONDA CUSTOMER SUPPORT REGARDING THE INCIDENT, THEY REFUSED TO COVER REPAIR UNDER RECALL. INFORMED ABOUT SAFETY CONCERN BUT NO ACKNOWLEDGMENT BY HONDA THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH POTENTIAL FOR INJURY. RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO COVER MORE VEHICLES THAN ACKNOWLEDGED BY HONDA. HONDA SHOULD ACT RESPONSIBLY TO PREVENT INJURY TO OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES AND RECALL AND REPLACE ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE MORE INJURIES OCCUR. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WOULD COST ME $200 TO REPLACE THE STRUTS. MY ODYSSEY DOES NOT HAVE ELECTRIC COMPONENT STRUTS FOR THE REAR HATCH. *TR
BOTH DOORS APPEAR TO BE TOO CLOSE TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE VAN. IT RUBS THE EXTERIOR, IE PAINT FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. OTHERWISE, THEY FUNCTION PERFECTLY WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE IN PARK, THE TAILGATE WOULD NOT REMAIN OPEN. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE LIFT GATE LOCK COULD NOT BE UNLOCKED WITH THE KEY OR MANUALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT LISTED UNDER RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V062000 (STRUCTURE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO...OCTOBER 1, 2012, I TOOK MY HONDA BACK IN TO HONDA. MY CAR HAD BEEN ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I LEFT MY HONDA THERE FOR 3 DAYS, AT WHICH POINT THEY DETERMINED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, AND THEY WOULD LIKE ME TO BRING IT BACK IN TO DRIVE IT "WITH THEM." THERE IS 100% SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY VAN AGAIN! IN ADDITION A FEW DAYS AGO, I WAS PUTTING BOOKS IN THE BACK OF MY VAN, AND THE HATCH STRUTS FAILED, AND THE BACK HATCH DOOR FELL DOWN ON MY HEAD. *TR
CAR EMITS A GRINDING SOUND WHEN THROTTLE IS IN A CRUISE OR SLIGHT ACCEL POSITION. ENGINE GETS "STUCK" AT 1500 RPM'S WHERE IT EMITS GRINDING SOUND THE LOUDEST. CAN ALSO FEEL IT IN THE GAS PEDAL. NORMAL SEQUENCE IS THIS: 1) ACCEL TO ~40MPH 2) ONCE AT STEADY STATE AND IN 4TH GEAR, ENGINE RPMS WILL FALL TO 1500. 3) RPM WILL GET "CAUGHT" AT 1500, MAKES GRINDING SOUND 4) RPMS MIGHT BREAKTHROUGH 1500, POP UP TO 1800, AND GRINDING NOISE WILL DIMINISH. 5) RPMS WILL THEN DROP BELOW 1500, THEN RISE AND GET STUCK AT 1500 AGAIN ALONG WITH INFURIATING NOISE AND PEDAL VIBRATION. CYCLE IS USUALLY 5-10 SECONDS. GOING SLIGHTLY UPHILL MAKES IT CYCLE MORE FREQUENTLY. GOING DOWNHILL DOESN'T MAKE NOISE SINCE TRANS IS DISENGAGED. IT'S ALSO HARD TO TELL IF LOWER GEARS DO THE SAME THING BECAUSE ENGINE NOISE AND VIBRATION DROWN OUT GRINDING SOUND/FEEL. OTHER THOUGHTS: - KIND OF SOUNDS LIKE A STRONG CROSS-WIND (30+ MPH) GOING ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. - IT ALSO SOUNDS SIMILAR TO HOW A BAD IDLER BEARING ON AN AC COMPRESSOR SOUNDS. THAT KIND OF METALLIC GRINDING SOUND. - IT'S NOT THE ENGINE MOUNTS (THEY'VE BEEN REPLACED) - IT'S SUBTLE AND SOME PEOPLE MIGHT NOT DETECT THE SOUND. *TR
BRAKES AUTOMATICALLY APPLIED WHILE FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL - THE VEHICLE WAS GOING ABOUT 35 MILES AN HOUR AND THE BRAKES APPLIED FORCING YOU INTO THE SEAT BELT UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST TO A STOP. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 300 FEET LATER. THE BRAKES APPLIED ON THEIR OWN WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL OR E-BRAKE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 15,000 MILES IT HAPPENED - THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WE DID NOT TAKE IT TO THE DEALER THINKING IT WAS HUMAN ERROR OR A ONE TIME ISSUE. NOW THAT IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I FOUND 7 OR 8 OTHER ODYSSEY OWNERS FILE COMPLAINTS WITH THE NHTSA WE KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE. CALLED HONDA AND THEY SENT 3 ENGINEERS TO LOOK AT VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. HONDA REPLACED ALL BRAKING SYSTEM PARTS WITH NEW PARTS, PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR ALL AT NO CHARGE. THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS TO WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUE BUT PLAN ON PUTTING THE PARTS FROM MY VEHICLE ONTO ANOTHER VEHICLE SO THEY CAN DO MORE TESTS. HOPEFULLY THE NEW PARTS WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR
PAINT IS PEELING FROM THE PRIMER. COMING OFF IN SHEETS. ROOF AREA. RUST SPOTS POPPING UP. MANY COMPLAINTS. CLASS ACTION SUIT HAS BEEN FILED. *TR
REAR LIFTGATE OF ODYSSEY FAILED, LUCKILY THERE WERE NO INJURIES AS THE TRUNK SLAMMED SHUT. TOOK TO DEALER TODAY AND ASKED ABOUT THE RECALL BUT APPARENTLY ONLY SOME, NOT ALL, HAVE BEEN RECALLED, SO I AM PAYING FOR THIS FAILURE TO BE REPAIRED MYSELF. FRUSTRATING! *TR
TRANSMISSION WITH HESITATION SHIFTING AND SHUDDER ON SLIGHT INCLINE AT ABOUT 32-35 MPH AND OCCASIONALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR LIFTGATE DOOR HAD BECOME ABNORMALLY HEAVY. THE LIFTGATE DOOR WOULD ALSO CLOSE ABRUPTLY AND INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V062000(STRUCTURE: BODY: HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE: SUPPORT DEVICE) AND THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER ANY RECALLS AND OFFERED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,803.
BRAKE PEDDLE GOES TO FLOOR BEFORE BRAKES ARE ENGAGED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIFT-GATE FAILED AS SHE OPENED IT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE LIFT GATE WAS VERY HARD TO OPEN UP AND ONCE IT WAS OPENED IT CAME BACK DOWN VERY QUICKLY. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,716.
REAR LIFTGATE STRUTS FAILED CAUSING LIFTGATE TO FALL SUDDENLY ON PERSON BENEATH THE REAR DOOR. HONDA HAS ALREADY ISSUED A RECALL ON SOME 2008 MODELS. WHEN DEALER AND HONDA CUSTOMER SUPPORT CONTACTED REGARDING THE INCIDENT REFUSED TO COVER REPAIR UNDER RECALL. INFORMED ABOUT SAFETY CONCERN BUT NO ACKNOWLEDGMENT BY HONDA THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH POTENTIAL FOR INJURY. RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO COVER MORE VEHICLES THAN ACKNOWLEDGED BY HONDA. SO FAR, ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE APPLYING THE GAS PEDAL THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED AND NEARLY STOPPED THE VEHICLE. ON EACH OCCASION IT HAPPENED DURING ACCELERATION AND SPEEDS WENT FROM NEARLY 40 TO 10-15 MPH EACH TIME. NO PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES IN ANY OF THESE INCIDENTS. *TR
THE MORNING OF THE 24TH I OPENED MY LIFT GATE TO PUT SOMETHING IN THE TRUNK AND ONCE I LIFTED THE GATE UP IT JUST FELL BACK DOWN NEARLY CRUSHING ME. HAD I NOT STOPPED IT THE GLASS WOULD HAVE BROKEN AS WELL. *TR
WITH LESS THAN 27,000 MILES OF DRIVING THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO ACCUMULATE AIR INTO THE BRAKE LINES THROUGH THE VSA MODULE. BLEEDING THE BRAKES REVERSES THIS PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES. TWICE THE PERFORMED THE "RECALL" SERVICE WHICH TEMPORARILY RESTORED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO LIKE NEW SERVICE. THE RECALL FIX BLED THE BRAKE LINES TO PURGE THE AIR AND COVER THE CAP WHICH ADMITTED THE AIR WITH A SILICONE SUBSTANCE. THE THIRD TIME THE DEALER SAID THE SOFT PEDAL WAS "NORMAL" DESPITE THE FACT THAT BLEEDING THE BRAKES REVERSED THE PROBLEM. NOW THE VAN WITH RECURRING BAD BRAKES PROBLEM HAS A FAILED VSA MODULE, THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MODULE NOW NEEDS REPLACEMENT AT A COST OVER $1400. THIS IS A FAULTY PART WHICH THE DEALER OR HONDA DID NOT CORRECT. I HAVE SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR BARELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED. AFTER SEVERAL FRIGHTENING NEAR ACCIDENT INCIDENCES I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VAN AS THOUGH THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES. THE FAILED VSA MODULE ALSO AFFECTS STEERING THE VEHICLE. IT WORKS IN THE BACKGROUND AND I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH THE STEERING HAS BEEN AFFECTED. I KNOW MINIVANS ARE HARD TO STOP. MY DODGE CARAVAN HAD A LONG STOPPING DISTANCE AND WORE THE BRAKE PADS DOWN IN 15,000 TO 20,000 MILES. THERE NEVER WAS A SOFT PEDAL PROBLEM WITH THOSE BRAKES. I WAS VERY PLEASED TO BUY A VAN THAT HAD "GOOD BRAKES" BUT AM DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS ODYSSEY DEFECT HAS JEOPARDIZED MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND OTHERS BY REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE FUNCTIONS AND HONDA'S INABILITY TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS RECURRING PROBLEM OR TO FIX THE ISSUE BY REPLACING THE INTEGRAL BUT FAULTY PART OF THE VEHICLES SAFETY SYSTEMS. TAKING THE AIR OUT OF A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM WITHOUT PREVENTING RECURRENCE IS IRRESPONSIBLE. PLACING CUSTOMERS LIVES AT RISK IS SHAMEFUL. *TR

THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE ANY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITH THE TAILGATE AND OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
WHILE DRIVING WITH FOOT ON THE GAS THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF I WAS PUMPING THE BRAKES BUT I WAS NOT TOUCHING THE BRAKES. IT WAS SLOWING. I THEN HEARD A RATTLING NOISE SO I TURNED OFF THE RADIO AND OPENED THE WINDOW TO LISTEN. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AND FELT THE SAME "BRAKE PUMPING" SENSATION AGAIN. I WAS NEAR THE DEALER SO I HEADED THERE TO REPORT THE ISSUES. DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE DEALER I FELT A VIBRATION UNDER MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL AND HEAR A VIBRATION SOUND. I ARRIVED AT THE DEALER TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. I TOLD THE SERVICE REP. THAT I'D REPORTED THE SAME SENSATION 11 MONTHS AGO WHILE DRIVING ON VACATION (WHILE ON THE FREEWAY). WHEN I RETURNED HOME I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. IF IT DOES THIS WHILE SOMEONE IS DRIVING DIRECTLY BEHIND ME IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HONESTLY DON'T FEEL THAT IS IT IS SAFE FOR ME OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I'M AFRAID IT WILL DO THE SAME THING ON THE FREEWAY WHILE I'M TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. AT THIS MOMENT I FEEL LIKE IT IS A DEATH TRAP AND WILL NOT DRIVE IT. I'M WAITING FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING. *TR
NON POWERED TRUNK LIFT ON MY EX ODYSSEY JUST STOPPED WORKING. I HAVE TO LITERALLY PUSH THE TRUNK AND KEEP IT IN POSITION AND HOLD IT, USE THE TRUNK AND THEN LEAVE THE DOOR SLOWLY, WITHOUT WHICH THE TRUNK DOOR WILL SLAM ON ITS OWN. I HEAR ABOUT RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE, SEEMS LIKE ITS APPLICABLE EVEN TO NON POWERED MODELS. *JS
WHILE DRIVING WITH MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, MY 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY SPONTANEOUSLY BRAKED. I QUICKLY LOOKED TO MAKE SURE THE PARKING BRAKE HAD NOT ENGAGED AND THAT NO OTHER WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. AFTER A MOMENT, THE BRAKES RELEASED. THEN THEY BRAKED AGAIN EVEN HARDER, SLAMMING ME AGAINST THE SEATBELT. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT FIVE OR SIX TIMES. I IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 25 MILES/HOUR AND MANAGED TO LIMP THE COUPLE OF MILES LEFT TO GET HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. ABOUT EIGHT MONTHS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED, ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE THE FIRST TIME. WHEN I TOOK IT IN THE DEALERSHIP, BOTH TIMES THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE NOR DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. *TR
BACK REAR HATCH LIFT STRUTS SUDDENLY FAILED. HATCH CAME CRASHING DOWN WITH SIGNIFICANT FORCE. DID NOT DIRECTLY SEE THE EVENT BUT IT HAPPENED WHILE MY CHILDREN WERE REMOVING ITEMS FROM REAR COMPARTMENT. REAR HATCH IS VERY HEAVY AND WITHOUT OPERABLE STRUTS THE GATE DEVELOPS A SIGNIFICANT FORCE (APPEARS TO BE LARGE ENOUGH TO CAUSE INJURY). IT IS NOTICED THAT 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS A RECALL TO SIMILAR PART BUT FOR THE POWERED LIFT GATE VERSION ONLY. HONDA DEALER HAS REPLACE PARTS, CHARGED TO OWNER = $178. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR LIFT GATE FAILED DUE TO DEFECTIVE STRUTS. THE LIFT GATE WAS DIFFICULT TO OPEN AND WOULD NOT REMAIN OPENED. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V0620000 (STRUCTURE: BODY: HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE: SUPPORT DEVICE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT WAS UNLOADING THE TRUNK AREA WITH THE LIFT GATE OPENED. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A LOUD SLAMMING NOISE AS THE LIFTGATE CLOSED ABRUPTLY. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE LIFT GATE BUT THE DOOR WOULD NOT REMAIN OPEN. THE CONTACT REALIZED THE STRUTS ON THE LIFT GATE WERE FAULTY AND COULD NO LONGER HOLD THE LIFTGATE OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V062000 (STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE) BUT COULD NOT CONFIRM IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
THE TAILGATE STRUTS FAILED WHEN MY WIFE OPENED THE TAILGATE CAUSING A BRUISE ON HER HEAD. SKIN WAS NOT BROKEN. THE STRUTS FAILED SLIGHTLY ON THE 27TH AND LOWERED THE TAIL GATE A FEW INCHES. A FEW DAYS LATER, THEY FAILED COMPLETELY AND TAIL GATE IS HARD TO OPEN AND MUST BE HELD OPEN OR IT FALLS RAPIDLY. THE STRUTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WILL TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF THEY WILL HONOR RECALL, EVEN IF VIN IS NOT INCLUDED ON RECALL LIST OR PERHAPS THE PART FAILURE MAY ALSO BE COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
MY 4 YEAR OLD SON WAS SITTING IN HIS CAR SEAT WITH HIS HAD ON THE SIDE OF THE BACK PANEL WHEN THE SLIDING ELECTRIC DOOR CLOSED ON HIS HAND. THE DOOR COMPLETELY CLOSED ON HIS HAND AND DID NOT REOPEN EASILY. A LOT OF FORCE WAS USED TO RE-OPEN THE DOOR. THE SENSOR FOR THE DOOR DID NOT WORK. *TR

SHE WAS ABLE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF TO STOP THE FAILURE. STRUCTURE/BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE:SUPPORT DEVICE---I WENT TO OPEN THE BACK DOOR ON THE VAN TO GET A STROLLER OUT. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO OPEN AND VERY HEAVY. WHEN I LET GO THE DOOR SHUT ON ME. I HAD RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, INFORMING ME THAT THE STRUTS WERE BAD AND COULD GIVE OUT UNEXPECTEDLY. (REF #12V062000) WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL, BUT THE PARTS WERE NOT IN. AFTER THE PARTS ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS CALLED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE FOR THE REPAIR. UPON MY ARRIVAL TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE REPAIR, I WAS TOLD MY VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AFTER ALL. AT THAT POINT THERE WAS NO HELPFUL PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP. IT HAS BEEN 7 MONTHS OF WEIGHT LIFTING GETTING THE STROLLER, GROCERIES, ETC. IN AND OUT OF THE VAN. THE STRUTS ON MY 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L FAILED THIS MORNING. IT IS NOT COVERED BY THE CURRENT RECALL FROM FEB 16, 2012, SINCE MY ODYSSEY DOES NOT HAVE A POWER LIFTGATE. PEOPLE STILL HAVE TO USE THE LIFTGATE (POWERED OR NOT), AND IT POSES A BIG RISK TO THE PERSON UNDER THE LIFTGATE. WHILE SUPPORTING THE LIFTGATE WITH MY HEAD, I HAD TO PULL OUT MY BICYCLE FROM THE VEHICLE WITH BOTH HANDS. AS I MOVED, THE LIFTGATE WOULD HURT ME SINCE IT WAS ONLY BEING KEPT OPEN BY MY BODY. ON 12/17/2011, I TOOK MY 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY IN FOR SERVICE TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION CHECKED SINCE THERE WAS FLUID LEAKING AND WHAT FELT LIKE TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE. BECAUSE I PURCHASE THE CAR NEW, HAD ALL OF MY SERVICES COMPLETED, AND BECAUSE THE VAN ONLY HAD 84,000 MILES, YOU CAN IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN SONS HONDA (SAME PLACE WHERE I PURCHASED AND HAD ALL SERVICES COMPLETED) INFORMED ME I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND QUOTED ME A PRICE OF $4,105. ON APPROXIMATELY NOVEMBER 5, 2011 MY HUSBAND WENT OUT TO OUR 2008 HONDA ODYSSEY TO RETRIEVE SOME ITEMS. HE OPENED THE REAR LIFTGATE AS USUAL AND WHILE HE WAS RETRIEVING THE BAGS THE REAR DOOR GAVE WAY FALLING ONTO HIS BACK. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT HARD TO STEER OR LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHEN TRYING TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL FROM A FULLY LEFT OR RIGHT POSITION WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS TIL UNDER WARRANTY (35K) WITH THE SOUTH BAY DEALERSHIP BUT AFTER LEAVING MY VEHICLE THERE FOR 2 DAYS THEY TOLD ME THE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. NOW AT ABOUT 47K IT BECOMES NOTICEABLE AND ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE HARD TO STEER THE STEERING WHEEL AT STARTING SPEED. CAR NEW TO ME 3/10 @ 34K MILES. I AM 2ND OWNER. ALL HONDAA RECALL NOTICES PERFORMED. ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE DONE PER MANUAL AND THEN SOME. *TT COMPLAINT #1. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO "JUMP" INTO GEAR AT LOW SPEEDS AND FEELS LIKE IT IS BOGGIN OUT/JUMPY AT 60-70 MPH ON HIGHWAY. THIS HAS BEEN NOTICEABLE SINCE 48K MILES, THERABOUTS. NO PROBLEM INDICATOR LIGHTS HAVE COME ON. THIS POWERTRAIN PROBLEM CONCERNS ME TERRIBLY AND WILL BE TAKING IT TO A HONDA DEALER TO INSPECT ASAP. I AM HOPING THEY CAN "SIMULATE AND IDENTIFY" THE PROBLEM. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO NOTICE THIS CONDITION. I FEEL FORTUNATE TO HAVE CAUGHT IT EARLY.
