BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT AND GOES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. HAVE HAD THE MASTER CYLINDER, BRAKE PADS, AND CALIPERS REPLACED AT DAVID MCDAVID IN 2018. BRAKE PEDAL REMAINED SOFT AND GOES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. HAD MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED AGAIN IN 2021 AT A PRIVATE FACILITY AND BRAKE PEDAL IS STILL NOT FIRM AS IT SHOULD BE.
EITHER THE BRAKE ROTORS WARP OR THE PADS DEPOSIT SOMETHING ONTO THE ROTORS. THE CAR HABITUALLY GOES THROUGH BRAKES, A SINGLE LONG DESCENT WILL CAUSE BRAND NEW BRAKES TO JUTTER BACK AND FORTH VIOLENTLY, WHICH IS UNNERVING FEELS LIKE IT DECREASES BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS. EVEN IN LIGHT USE THE ROTORS HAVE TO BE SURFACED AND PADS ARE REPLACE TWICE A YEAR. THIS IS MENTIONED VERY FREQUENTLY ONLINE IN FORUMS, AND WHEN BROUGHT UP TO A DEALERSHIP THEY DENY ANY CHRONIC BRAKE PROBLEMS. THEY INSIST DRIVERS MUST BE "RIDING THE BRAKES".
WHEN BRAKING THE VEHICLE SHAKES AND THE BRAKES VIBRATE TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE FEELS UNSAFE. THIS HAS BEEN A CONTINUAL PROBLEM. BRAKES HAVE BEEN INSPECTED AND WE ARE TOLD THAT THE ROTORS ARE WARPED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS HAS BEEN DONE THREE TIMES AND NOW, AT 96,000 MILES WE ARE BEING TOLD THAT THE BRAKES/ROTORS NEED TO BE REDONE AGAIN. I WROTE TO HONDA IN 2017 AND NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY. THE HONDA DEALER SAYS IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. SUPPOSEDLY A NEWER VERSION OF ROTOR WAS ISSUED AND INSTALLED THE LAST TIME, BUT THE PROBLEM IS BACK. FROM A DRIVER'S PERSPECTIVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND HONDA SHOULD MAKE IT RIGHT. THEIR BRAKE COMPONENTS ARE UNDERSIZED OR NOT ENGINEERED PROPERLY FOR THE SIZE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VIBRATION IS NOT FELT ANYTIME THAT THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, BUT MORE SIGNIFICANTLY WITH HIGHER SPEEDS AND QUICKER STOPS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE ABS INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY BRAKED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AUTOFAIR HONDA (200 KELLER ST, MANCHESTER, NH 03103) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TODAY, AT HONDA DEALERSHIP, WAS INFORMED THAT THE REASON OUR VEHICLE SHAKES AND VIBRATES ROUGHLY AT HIGH SPEEDS (WHEN BRAKING) IS DUE TO WARPED ROTORS. WAS TOLD HONDA HAS DISCONTINUED MAKING THOSE ROTORS AND WOULD NEED THEM REPLACED WITH NEW ROTORS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE LARGER. KNOWN ISSUE, BUT NOT COVERED, COST APPROX $800 TOTAL WITH NEW PADS, ETC. VERY FRUSTRATED THAT A PART HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED AND DEEMED UNSAFE T BE USED AGAIN, BUT NO RECALL OR REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS.
SOFT BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. TOOK TO SHOP BRAKE SYSTEM HAD TO BE REVELED. AFTER 2 WEEKS DOING SAME PROBLEM. MASTER CYLINDER BEEN CHECKED WITH NO ISSUES
I OFFICIALLY PURCHASED A USED 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY FROM A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP ON OCTOBER 5, 2016. BEFORE I LEFT WITH THE NEW VEHICLE, THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DIVISION REPLACED BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS ON THE VEHICLE (SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS FOR SERVICE/REPAIR INVOICE DATED 10/4/2016). ON OCTOBER 7-8, 2016, I DROVE THE CAR ON A STATE HIGHWAY IN SOME MOUNTAINOUS AREAS BOTH ON A UPHILL AND DOWNHILL SLOPE AT ABOUT 30-50 MPH. I NOTICED THAT ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING ON A DOWNWARD SLOPE, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES EVEN SLIGHTLY, THE CAR BEGAN TO PERCEPTIBLY SHUDDER. THE GREATER THE SLOPE OF THE ROAD, THE GREATER THE SHUDDERING EFFECT. I RETURNED WITH THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER UNRELATED REASON, BUT INQUIRED ABOUT THE SHUDDERING AND ASKED IF DURING THE DEALERSHIP'S SAFETY INSPECTIONS IF ANY PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE BRAKES HAD BEEN DISCOVERED, SINCE THE PADS WERE BRAND NEW. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE ROTORS HAD BEEN WARPED DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT FROM BRAKING. AFTER I PRESSED HIM FOR MORE INFORMATION, HE TOLD ME THAT VIRTUALLY EVERY RECENTLY-PRODUCED HONDA ODYSSEY (I.E., MODELS MANUFACTURED IN THE LAST 5-10 YEARS) THAT HE HAD SEEN COME THROUGH THE SERVICE DIVISION EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR WARPING PROBLEM AFTER NEARLY EVERY 30,000-40,000 MILES DRIVEN. IN HIS OPINION, THE ROTORS INSTALLED IN HONDA ODYSSEYS WERE ACTUALLY MUCH TOO SMALL (I.E., THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH SURFACE AREA) TO BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND THE HIGH AMOUNTS OF HEAT CAUSED BY THE LARGE BRAKES REQUIRED FOR THE RELATIVELY LARGER MODEL OF VEHICLE (THE VAN). HE WENT AS FAR AS TO TELL ME THAT HE WAS ACCUSTOMED TO INSTALLING LARGER-THAN-RECOMMENDED ROTORS IN SOME OF HIS CUSTOMERS' VANS TO TRY AND AVOID THE PROBLEM. HE SAID HE WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF A RECALL WOULD BE FORTHCOMING ON THE ROTORS. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION ON THESE ROTORS TO INITIATE SUCH A RECALL.
PUTTING BRAKES ON AT HIGH SPEED, LIKE AT INTERSTATE SPEED, VEHICLE AND STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE, AND VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. WARP FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT, BUT HAS BEEN DOING IT SINCE ABOUT 30,0000 MILES. USUALLY NOT A PROBLEM SINCE MOST OF MY DRIVING IS IN THE CITY, BUT WHEN USING THE INTERSTATE IT IS SCARY IF YOU HAVE TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP. FEELS LIKE YOU CAN LOOSE CONTROL.
BRAKE ROTORS ARE WARPING , 2011 MODEL WITH 32000 MILES, FOUND MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEB SITE.DRAGGING OR SKIPPING WHEN VEHICLE IN MOTION AND BRAKES APPLIED. DEALER CALLS IT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR.
SEVERE VIBRATION WHILE BRAKING AT ANY SPEED ABOVE 45 MPH. I'M REPORING THIS PROBLEM MAY 2015, HOWEVER I HAVE NOTICED THIS GOING ON FOR ABOUT 2 YEAR AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE, THOUGHT IT WAS ROAD CONDITIONS. SINCE I DON'T DRIVE FREEWAYS VERY OFTEN (VERY LOW MILES ON MY 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY) I DIDN'T GIVE IT MUCH THOUGHT, HOWEVER NOW THAT I'M DRIVING MORE FREQUENTLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON VARIOUS ROADS, THERE IS DEFINETELY A VIBRATION UPON BRAKING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. UPDATED 11/6/13 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED DURING A RECENT DRIVE DOWN THE MOUNTAIN HILL, THE BRAKES BEGAN VIBRATING. WITH THE BRAKES VIOLENTLY PULSATING, THEY FAILED TO EFFECTIVELY SLOW THE CAR DOWN. THE FRONT BRAKE VIBRATION OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE ON MOUNTAIN ROADS. SEVERAL AUTO MECHANICS INCLUDING THE DEALER, GAVE A GENERAL EXPLANATION THAT HEAT BUILD-UP WARPED THE BRAKE DISCS AND CAUSED THE VIBRATION. IT WAS ALSO SUGGESTED WHEN TRAVELING DOWN STEEP MOUNTAIN ROADS, THE DRIVER SHOULD SWITCH TO 3RD GEAR AND EASE OFF THE ACCELERATOR ALLOWING THE ENGINE TO HELP REDUCE SPEED. UPDATED 11/14/13
WHILE BRAKING, THE STEERING BEGIN TO SHIMMY. CHECKS BY A TIRE/BRAKE SHOP VERIFIED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS WERE WARPED. ROTORS WERE REMOVED AND TURNED TO REMOVE WARPING. SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE OF BRAKING WAS RESTORED BUT AT 60,000 MILES PROBLEM BEGAN TO REOCCUR . I INTEND TO REPLACE ROTORS AND PADS WITH QUALITY MATERIAL (NON HONDA PARTS) TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I'M GREATLY DISAPPOINTED WITH HONDA AND THEIR POOR MATERIAL QUALITY.
THE 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY BRAKES FAILED WHEN APPLIED WHEN THE VAN WAS PLACED IN REVERSE. THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR ON APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES AND DID NOT RETURN BACK. AS THE PEDAL DID NOT RETURN BACK WAS UNABLE TO PUMP THE BRAKE TO BUILD ANY HYDRAULIC PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A HALT USING THE PARKING BRAKE. SUBSEQUENTLY THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP ON INSPECTION REPORTS A BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE. HONDA WHEN CONTACTED DIRECTLY DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY SUCH PRIOR INCIDENT REPORTS. HOWEVER AT LEAST TWO SUCH FAILURES HAVE BEEN REPORTED ON THE SAME MAKE, MODEL YEAR BY OTHER OWNERS ON HONDA OWNER FORUMS. I HUMBLY REQUEST THAT YOU INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE BEFORE ANY FATALITIES OCCUR. HONDA IS UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE A SYSTEMIC FAILURE. *TR

AN INITIAL CALL TO THE DEALER SAID THAT DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT AND WEAR, THE ROTORS MAY BE WARPED AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN TO GET ROTORS RESURFACED. I ASKED WHETHER THIS WAS COMMON AT ABOUT 16000 MILES. DEALER TOLD ME THAT SHOULDN'T BE THE CASE UNTIL AROUND 45,000-75,000 MILES. MY WIFE DRIVES THE VEHICLE UNDER "NORMAL" CONDITIONS (DRIVING KIDS TO SCHOOL, ETC.) AND DOES NOT BREAK EXCESSIVELY OR SUDDENLY. *TR
THE BRAKES ROTORS APPEAR TO BE WARPED AND VIBRATE VERY VIOLENTLY WHEN BRAKING MODERATELY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THIS VIOLENT VIBRATION MAKES CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT IN THOSE SITUATIONS WHEN IT OCCURS. THE DEALER HAS IDENTIFIED NOTHING WRONG. *TR
THE VEHICLE SHAKES QUITE A BIT WHEN BRAKING FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS, SUCH AS WHEN ENTERING AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY OFFRAMP. APPARENTLY THIS IS CAUSED BY PREMATURELY WARPING BRAKE ROTORS.
SHAKES WHEN BRAKING AT SPEEDS OVER 45 MPH, DRASTICALLY INCREASING 45-0 MPH STOPPING DISTANCE, ROTORS HAVE BEEN RESURFACED ONCE AND PADS REPLACED ALREADY AT APPROXIMATELY 13000 MILES. AT 25968 ROTORS NEED TO BE RESURFACED AGAIN, PADS ABOUT 50%, HONDA ADVISES THAT ROTORS WILL NEED TO BE RESURFACED ABOUT EVERY 12000-13000 MILES TO MAINTAIN SAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. NO MOUNTAINOUS DRIVING, OR HARD BREAKING, NEVER HAD TO RESURFACE OR REPLACE ROTORS ON ANY OF MY EIGHT PREVIOUS VEHICLES, INCLUDING A MINI VAN. *TR
