TPMS WARNING LIGHT (ERROR) CAME ON, EVEN THOUGH ALL TIRE PRESSURES WERE EXACTLY AS SPECIFIED BY HONDA. WHEN THE TPMS ERROR OCCURS, THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL CANNOT BE TURNED OFF, AND MY VEHICLE COULD NOT MOVE FROM A SMALL SNOWBANK (FEBRUARY 2020.) MY OLDER 2006 ODYSSEY'S STABILITY CONTROL WAS NOT AFFECTED BY ANY TPMS ERRORS SINCE IT DIDN'T HAVE THE SYSTEM, SO I COULD TURN OFF THE STABILITY CONTROL AND EASILY DRIVE OUT OF SLIPPERY OR SNOWY AREAS. I LIVE IN MAINE AND THIS PROBLEM CAUSES POTENTIALLY SERIOUS ISSUES (BEING STUCK IN SNOW THAT IS NORMALLY EASY TO NAVIGATE IN WHEN VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL IS OFF.) THERE WERE TWO SPECIFIC INSTANCES I CAN RECALL: 1) MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WITH THE RIGHT-SIDE TIRES 3-4 INCHES INTO THE SNOWBANK; 2) MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A GRAVEL PARKING LOT WITH SOME ICE UNDERNEATH. THIS PROBLEM COULD LEAD TO A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN THERE IS ANY TRAFFIC AND I NEED TO PUSH OR SHOVEL THE CAR OUT, WHICH WOULD NOT BE NEEDED IF I COULD SIMPLY TURN OFF THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SO POWER COULD BE TRANSMITTED TO ALL FOUR TIRES IN THIS INSTANCE. "LOCKING OUT" THE VSC BECAUSE OF A TPMS ERROR (NOT BECAUSE OF LOW AIR PRESSURE) CAN CAUSE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN MAINE. NOTE: DATE OF FEB 8, 2020 IS APPROXIMATE FOR ONE INCIDENT (PARKING AREA), CAN'T REMEMBER THE OTHER INCIDENT'S DATE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HONDA ODYSSEY EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL TIRES, TIRE LINE: PROCONTACT, TIRE SIZE: 235/65/R17 N/A, DOT NUMBER: A3873VM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL BOUNCING OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. A CONTINENTAL TIRE DISTRIBUTOR WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 BOTH ON THE TIRE AND VEHICLE.
THIS VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 17000 MILES, LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD. A FRONT WHEEL STUD WAS BROKEN DUE TO HEAVY RUST. THREADS WERE STRIPED AND WHEEL NUT IS LOST DUE TO THAT. THIS VEHICLE WAS KEPT IN TEXAS MOST OF TIME. REGULAR MAINTAINED. NO SALT CORROSION.
DRIVING ON I64 NEAR LOUISVILLE, KY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WHEN REAR TIRE ON DRIVER SIDE BLEW OUT. THE TIRES HAD 23,000 MILES ON THEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AROUND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND WHEELS BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO ACKNOWLEDGED THE VIBRATION BUT WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. ABOUT 1:30 PM, MAY 23, 2015, I WAS DRIVING MY NEW 2015 HONDA ODYSSEY EX ON EAST BOUND OF RT 529 (PLAINFILD AVE) TO RT 1 IN EDISON, NJ, THE LEFT REAR BACK MICHELIN TIRE BLEW OUT ABOUT 100 YARDS AWAY FROM THE INTERSECTION. THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE ROAD. NOTHING WAS FOUND ON THE TIRE. I CALLED INSURANCE COMPANY, TOWING COMPANY, AND FINALLY I FOUND THAT A NISSAN DEALER IN RT 1 WAS JUST 200 YARDS AWAY. I SLOWLY DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, REPLACED THE SPARE TIRE. ON WEDNESDAY, I REPLACED A NEW MICHELIN SAME TIRE IN SWEENEY'S GULF AT EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ. THURSDAY, I WENT TO AUTOSPORT HONDA DEALER AT BRIDGEWATER, NJ WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE LAST OCTOBER. BUT THE DEALER AT FIRST DENIED THE TIRE HAD DEFECT, THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DIDN'T HANDLE THE TIRE WARRANTY, I HAD TO GO MICHELIN DEALER. ON FRIDAY, MAY 26, I WENT TO A MICHELIN DEALER IN OLD BRIDGE, NJ. THE STAFF TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO CALL MICHELIN TO SEE WHAT I SHOULD DO. I CALLED AND EMAILED MICHELIN. FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTION, I WENT TO STS ON RT 18 TO CHECK. TODD CHECKED THE TIRE AND THE RIM, TOLD ME THAT THE TIRE HIT SOMETHING, WHICH CUT THE TIRE, NOT THE DEFECT BECAUSE HE SAW A SESAME BIG MARK ON THE EDGE OF THE RIM, WHICH CAUSED THE BLOW OUT. BUT HE COULDN'T ANSWER MY QUESTIONS: WHY THE FRONT TIRE WAS FINE? WHY THE TIRE NEAR THE RIM WAS NO ANY DAMAGE, THE BLOWOUT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIDE OF THE TIRE, 3 INCHES AWAY FROM THE MARK ON THE RIM? WHY THE SHAP OF THE BLOWOUT WAS A IRREGULAR CURVE CRACK, NO STRAIGHT CUTTING EDGE AS HE SAID THAT SOMETHING CUT THE TIRE? I DIDN'T FEEL I HIT ANYTHING. I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING ON THE ROAD. I STAYED THERE FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR BEFORE I TOOK MY CAR TO NISSAN DEALER. 529 IS A BUSY ROAD, AT LEAST HUNDREDS CARS PASSED IN ONE HOUR, NO ONE BLEW OUT. IT OBVIOUS THAT EITHER NOTHING ON THE ROAD, OR SOME TINY THING WHICH SHOULD NOT CAUSE A TIRE BLOWOUT. SO IT IS A DEFECT WHICH CAUSED THE BLOWOUT.
