No warning messages on dashboard. The drivers side mirror goes off like there's something there but there's nothing. Same with the braking display light comes on when I'm no where near anything, yet I've had cars pull out in front of me thankful no crash has happened because it doesn't go off then. I plan to take it into the dealership soon. I can't give an estimate of how long exactly it's been doing this. Especially side mirror warning. That's been going on. The braking thing has probably been a month now
I’ve had several incidents where my vehicle has forced me to a screeching hault when not needed. Most recently it did, and I was almost rear ended by a large UHaul truck while my baby was in the backseat. This is extremely dangerous. This anti-collision system activates while on turns and when nothing else is happening around the vehicle. This is a safety feature that makes the vehicle more unsafe.
Under many normal driving conditions, the front collision brake system activates. This has almost caused a collision as it shakes the wheel and applies the brakes.
When driving my vehicle the emergency braking system alerts and initiates the brakes at inappropriate time. While driving on a straight road with a curve ahead if there is a car coming the opposite direction around the curve the braking system will engage. I am not at the point to go into the curve yet so my steering wheel is still straight. If I have starting to turn it will not engage. This happens daily as it is a road I take to work. This has been happening since I purchased the vehicle in January 2023
The sensors simply don’t work. CMBS system constantly raises warnings, often alarming me as a driver, almost creating accidents. On one occasion, coming into a turning lane of intersection with green arrow and cars moving forward into left turn, CMBS actually applied the brakes for about 1 second, alarming me and causing the driver behind me to react as well. There’s no permanent disabling of this feature, which is a mistake by mfg, and we often forget to turn off starting each drive. Blind spot is often throwing false alarms. Lane detection too, but we permanently turn off lane detection.
The Forward Collition Mitigation System is constantly braking on its own for no apparent reason. It happens a lot when going around a slight right turn and it interprets cars coming the opposite direction in the other lane as a trigger to start braking. It is a very dangerous situation each time, so I turn off that feature every time I start driving now to avoid it.
I purchased my vehicle in August 2023 (used). Phone calls (both through using CarPlay and with the phone unplugged and with genuine cables) sound terrible on the part of the recipient. We replaced the FAKRA cables and harness late last year and just replaced the microphone (and I got charged a diagnosis fee). The issue is continuing. It's gotten so bad that I have to use my AirPods to make any calls for my recipient to hear anything I'm saying (which is illegal in my state and should not be a requirement in a car that is less than 3 years old). I've dug in to forums and this is a common issue for the EX-L trim level in the 2021 model. Additionally, this can impact the backup camera and other lane keeping assist issues. I have factory reset it multiple times and it's still having similar issues.
There were no warning light, malfunction errors or anything prior to 1/4/2025. My passenger seat weight sensor was supposedly finally replaced on 4/9/2025 (I kept being turned away due to the part not being available), but it is still not working, as it is not illuminating/communicating with the dashboard appropriately. I told the dealer this the same day and they said it was late in the day so I had to bring it back. I went back to the shop twice and the second time they kept my car for 5 hours and said they couldn’t figure out why it’s not working so I would have to go back to the collision shop from 1/9/2024 to see if it is a wire or air bag issue. I got in my car and noticed that now the passer seat belt alarm is on so I took it back. They told me they can’t keep examining my car and I would have to pay for a full diagnostic test to see why the seat belt alarm and weight sensor is not working. I kept going back and forth with them that this is a safety issue and it needs to be fixed and I should not have to pay for this because at least the seat belt alarm was working before I went to them on 4/29/25. I also asked for a supervisor and was told no one was available and I would have to come back a 4th time. I left and instead of going back for who knows how long, I called the collision shop on 4/30/25 and have gone back and forth with them about finding out why my car is still not fixed. It is now 5/7/2025 and neither my passenger air bag sensor or seat belt sensor is working properly and the alarm is still beeping unless I lock the passenger seat belt. I do not trust the dealership and I am pissed off at the collision shop because no one seems to care that there are safety defects that are still not working correctly. I should also not have to pay for something that was out of my control and should have been done correctly the first time. I need some help now as this is an urgent matter and I do not feel safe or that my passenger will be safe in my vehicle.
- Automatic braking system flashes warnings for no reason, with no cars around me - Parking break hasn’t taken a handful of times - No collision warning when parking brake didn’t take, front end is now damaged ** I have dash cam proof I hit the parking brake before I collided with the vehicle in front of me in the school line. Husband glued the grill pieces together to keep them from overlapping.

Tire sidewall separation. Tire manufacturer has recalled other tires with different mold numbers for this exact same issue but this tire isn't included in recall but has now shown the same issue. This could have caused a catastrophic blowout failure had I not caught.

When the passport is in cruise control I have been driving up a very steep mountain and have had the car slam on brakes with no indication to the cars behind me or me intially causing everyone to come to a halt going up a mountain with a 9% incline. I realize you can adjust the distance but it still gives no warning and it is not as if you are tailo the car in front. I turn in my subdivision daily and if I let off the gas which I have to I the neighborhood and not have to break at five or ten mph something underneath feels as if it is catching like a bike break too close it scrubs. The final thing. I have started the car remotely many times. I have done it twice in parking lots and it has jumped forward . Had someone been in from of the car standing it jumped hard enough to hit someone. Or it the car facing mine had been closer it would have hit that car as well. Thank you
We drove about 100 miles yesterday. It all happened. False Brake light flash and brake applied because of oncoming traffic. Heavy brake application because of car in the left lane making a turn. Can't tell you how many times I've almost been rear ended, and people blasting their horns at me because this foolish car slams on the brakes for no reason. People think I'm brake checking them. Had 2 Hyundai before this, never encountered this. Honda needs to be forced to fix these issues. There are hundreds of similar complaints in online forum about this problem. This has happened many times, especially on an extended trip, like yesterday, over 100 miles round trip. Dealers do not have a fix for this. Honda needs to be forced to address this and fix all problem vehicles.
On my way to work I was on the highway and five warning lights came on out of no where. All five warnings were the safety assist systems had problems. I drove to the Honda dealership and found out it was my microchip for my honda, the main microchip for all of the safety and system controls were dead/bad and that it would need to be replace. I was told by the service manager that without the micro chip the vehicle would no longer be drivable as it controls power steering system, brakes system, lane departures, etc. If I would have ignored those warning lights, all of those systems all systems would have failed putting my life at risk and others in their vehicles as well . My vehicle was bought with 3 miles on the speedometer and was only 2 years old at the time of this occurrence.
My car is equipped to cut off when you come to a stop. It has failed to restart after taking your foot off the brake a couple of times, and it has been slow to restart many times.
The auto engine idle is failing to properly restart the vehicle. After coming to a complete stop the vehicle will not restart on its own. I have to put the vehicle in park, wait a few minutes and then push the start button to restart the vehicle. The vehicle will be available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others has been put at risk numerous times. The vehicle has failed to restart mid-intersection in heavy traffic., on the highway during stop and go traffic, and at stop lights. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance company. No prior warning signs, messages or lamps have appeared before the problem.
See attached document from complainant
I was driving at 60mph and the entire dash went blank for about 30seconds. There was no speedometer, warnings, no display at all. After about 30 seconds the tach showed back up followed by the gear indicator and speedometer with the drivers information center showing up last. This happened on Sunday 5/7/23 this has happened once before but it was brief and I wasn’t sure it had actually happened. This time I saw it go blank and watched the whole process of it coming back on.
Regarding NHTSA Recall Number 23V-174 Honda Campaign Number: FE5 Service Bulletin Number: 23-035 On May 1st, 2023, we dropped off our vehicle for service at Rick Roush Honda in Medina, Ohio for the recall noted above. Both side mirrors were replaced per the recall. Upon getting the vehicle back from the service department, we noticed that the driver's side (left) mirror had waves in it that made it look like a 'fun house mirror'. The dealership didn't have an additional mirror on hand, so we drove with this replacement mirror for a week until an additional replacement came in. The second replacement was just as bad as the first. Upon pulling off this mirror, the service department grabbed the first replacement as well as the original mirror and compared all three. The waviness didn't appear in any of the mirrors when they weren't installed, however, upon attaching either of the replacement mirrors to the mirror assembly the waviness returned. The service department then decided to install the original mirror back on the vehicle until they could find out what was wrong with the replacements. It's now been 85 days, and the service manager, [XXX] , hasn't heard back from his contacts at Honda in California. He stated they have had 7 to 8 others with the same complaint and are waiting on resolution for them as well. Honda forums posts show others with the same issues at other dealerships with these mirrors. I contacted Honda Customer Care today (7/25/2023) and they provided case # [XXX] with an initial follow-up date between 2-3 business days. The radio stops and pauses. At times the radio and phone are unusable. When it does come back on the volume is very loud and is shocking . Please see NHTSA ID # 10198172
After turning a corner steering locked and unable to steer car . wrecked
I don't know which system failed or malfunctioned. It is available for inspection. While parking at the community parking lot the car accelerated. I wan't able to stop it. It jumped a bumper stop than a curb and drove up a berm and crashed into a tree. (The incident is on film at the clubhouse). I was the only one injured. My knee broke the underside of dashboard (see phpto). I did have other bruises. The vehicle is still at the collision repair shop so it hasn't been seen by the dealer. However I did report the matter to American Honda who assigned a case #13707324 on 3/17/2023. As of this writing I am told they haven't assigned same to a representative. To the best of my knowledge the vehicle has not been inspected. There were no warnings given.
The contact owns a 2021 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, crossing an intersection, crashed into the rear wheel of an unknown vehicle. The seat belt fractured. There were no warning indicator lights illuminated. The air bag deployed. The contact sustained bruises and bumps and medical attention was provided. A police report was filed. There were no reports of a fire. The vehicle was towed to a towing lot. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
Driving 65mph on 3 lane highway in l=far left lane in light snow with anti-collision on. Then instantly car auto braked, car slowed dramatically very fast and despite me stepping on gas pedal, car continued at a crawl on major highway. Fortunately no car was close behind or it would have hot me with such rapid decent. I moved to the right shoulder across 3 lanes and car continued to be unresponsive to gas pedal. Honda stated that front camera must have been covered and thus system operated correctly. They did say gas should have responded when I turned the wheel, but it did not. Honda said it won't respond to gas pedal, but this is very dangerous and takes control from driver. The system should be a help but never take control when driver directs otherwise. Had there been more and closer traffic, an accident would have been likely
Vehicle engine keeps stopping while in drive and puts itself in neutral and turn offs, metal flying around the engine, vehicle jumps and makes loud rattling noise, vehicle electrical issue all components turned themselves off, Catalyst converter and several other vehicle issues alarm safety , vehicle gets stuck on hill
Vehicle started having issues with steering wheel shaking under braking at 10k miles. It started getting worse and at15k miles dealer diagnosed warped rotors . Dealer stated that brakes are not under warranty as this is wear and tear item. Dealer resurface rotors instead of replacing them as Honda wouldn’t cover it . Issue has returned again and under breaking steering wheel is shaking pretty bad . Honda does not want to cover this under warranty. I have contacted them and they said this is not under recall and they can’t help me. I wanted to report this as I do believe this safety issue that could result in serious accident and possible even casualties.
The contact owns a 2021 Honda Passport. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the Forward Collision Avoidance system erroneously activated. The contact stated the brake warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer and the distance of the Forward Collision Avoidance system was extended. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact stated the vehicle had been taken to the local dealer three times, but the vehicle continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
We were driving at 55mph and every warning light came on. It quickly decelerated to 20mph then wouldn't shift from first gear. We were in an area where there was no places to pull over. We pulled over and the car wouldn't shift from park. We were told to let it sit 15min then try again. After 20 min the car worked normally. The computer system deletes all the errors once it sits. The dealership says there is nothing wrong. This is the 2nd time it's done it. We were told to check the battery. It's new and we do not trust this vehicle. If it does it on the freeway it would be catastrophic. Honda needs to fix this problem. The crash avoidance also says to brake at every car in the opposite lane. I purchased a code reader to try and save all the codes when the car acts up.
This car accelerates when down shifting in mid to higher gears. We were in the snow on a steep decline and when I downshifted into 4th gear the car immediately accelerates ( Not Coasted ) but accelerated increasing my speed before finally downshifting. It is also having similar issues with the 7th, 6th, and 5th gears. We lost traction immediately after shifting when the car accelerates and I have no drought that we would have crashed if we were approaching or in a turn at the time. 12/28/22 I spoke with the dealer today and he was aware of other complaints. I made an appointment to have them check it out tomorrow 12/29/22. I have repeated this issue multiple times and plan to show them. This also happens every time you downshift into 4th gear etc on dry or wet pavement, even on flat surfaces.
Engine knocking noise that related to recent Honda crankshaft recalls of certain V6 engines. with 22k miles Honda did replace on main crankshaft bearing to to premature wear on my multiple complains on engine knocking noise that clearly audible between 11 to 17 k RPM. After main bearing replacement the noise is audible so the parts that cause it are still working in this engine. It is super unsafe to have catastrophic failure of an engine on highway or in the mountains with no cellular connection.
Pulling into home garage vehicle suddenly surged forward. Brakes were applied and the brake peddle went to the floor and did not engage brakes to stop the Passport. Effects were the Passport crashed into a refrigerator we had there to handle over flow and crushed the refrigerator and knocked a hole in the wall of the garage. No warning or alarms sounded which Honda said does not happen at low speeds. Took Passport to local dealer. They kept it for 1 week and just drove it around trying to see if it would replicate what had happened. It did not replicate what happen insinuated that it must not have happen the way we reported it. Gave them internet copies of similiar reports that had occurred to same make and model . They gave us 2 choices go into another lease (which would go from 350 a month to 565 a month with no proceeds from present lease. We brought the passport home. turned over to our insurance. $ 4365.00 damage.
I was pulling out of my drivway on a colder mid-november morning when the windshield on my new Honda Passport spontaneiously cracked from the upper left frame and ran all the way across the driver's side view. I was only pulling out of my driveway at about 5 mph when it cracked. My mechanic suggested Honda's have a problem with frame flex, which cracks the windshields similar to how mine cracked. I reported the defect to Honda but they said they don't replace windshields, and referred me to a 3rd party to pay the repair out of pocket. Since the windshield is a crucial to the structure of the vehicle, it's alarming how many people are experiencing the same problem with Honda windsheilds
On October 29, 2022, the CMBS emergency braking system slammed the brakes on for no obvious reason. This happened at least four or five times while traveling eastbound on I-40 in AZ. There were no cars in front of or changing into my lane. After it happened a few times, I called the dealer RSM Honda in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, where i service the car to see if i could turn it off. They suggested reducing the sensitivity, which I did. After changing the sensitivity, I still experienced two or three more incidents of surprise emergency braking for no reason. After the fifth or sixth incident, I pulled over and searched a pdf copy of my owners manual and found a way to turn off the CMBS with a button on the dash. This worked to stop the braking incidents, but I had to do it over again every time I restarted the engine after stopping for gas, etc. This scared me and was dangerous as this would happen while i was going 70 mph. I think every instance occurred while I was passing a "big rig", but I was never in the same lane as the truck. Sometimes it was on a very gentle curve, but other times we (truck and I) were both going straight down a straightaway. I had done similar trips previously in February, June, and July without having this issue, but had it happen multiple times on my October trip as described above.
I am writing to make you aware of an alarming incident that happened with our 2021 Honda Passport this fall. My wife backed out of the garage and was in our driveway when the vehicle engine suddenly turned off and a message appeared on the entertainment display. It said that the antitheft system had lost power and that the power button needed to be pushed to restore it. She finally got the car to start by pushing the “volume” button, NOT the power (engine on/off) button. The message disappeared. If this would have happened while actually on the road, there could have been serious consequences. Can you image your vehicle suddenly shutting off on a highway? About a two months later, I also received the same message when driving through my subdivision, but the engine did not shut off. I immediately took the vehicle a local Honda dealer who tested the battery (the original battery – just about to turn two years old) and found that it needed to be replaced. There was no indication that it was going bad prior to these incidents. As I stated earlier, it is the first scenario that is a red flag. Why did the engine shut off? Have other Passport or Honda owners had a similar experience? I thought you should know what happened to us.
Last year my wife and I purchased a 2021 Honda Passport. For the past year we have complained to Honda that the sensor for the Brake Assist was not working properly when the vehicle is in a curve. The sensor could not distinguish the vehicle's lane of travel and would sense oncoming traffic in the other lane as though it was in my lane, and would flash "Brake" with a high pitch alarm. Up until last month, this was only an annoying issue. We complained to the dealership, who said they know about the issue, but Honda does not have a fix. We were under the impression the problem was only a passive issue. Given the lack of vehicle inventories, we decided to keep the vehicle. Two weeks ago, the sensor caused the vehicle to abruptly brake, causing an extreme change of speed from 65 mph to 45-50 mph. My wife struggled to keep the vehicle in the lane of travel. We spoke to the Honda dealership, who advise this active response is also a known issue, especially at night, and there is nothing they can do about it. We asked about a recall notice or fix. The dealership said there is nothing from Honda Corporate. The dealership service department commented that the sensor has issues distinguishing the vehicle's lane of travel, especially at night, and can cause the active braking. Our frustration is with the obvious severe safety issue. My wife and son almost struck another vehicle on the freeway because of this. Had we known about this safety issue, we never would have purchased the vehicle. Honda never disclosed this safety problem to us at the time of sale, and has never made any attempt to communicate this issue to us.
The Radio started to "crackle or skip" while using apple CarPlay. The crackle noise continued after audio had been paused. Our safety was at risk because the noise was very distracting. I needed to take my hand off the wheel to unplug my phone to stop the noise. The equipment has not been inspected. The only sign of failure were small cracks that were much more intermittent, compared to constant crackling that I am experiencing now.
i have had two incidents of the CMBS slamming on my brakes on my 2021 Honda Passport, EXL, with no threat to warrant the incident. It locked the brakes instantly and I was injured mildly the first time and the second time caused medical bills, a cervical neck epidural injection and injury to my shoulder with still does not have full movement. The first incident occurred on a busy through street and a small car about 1/2 block in front of me did a tight U turn and proceed along the medium on the other side of the street and I was also next to the concrete medium on my side of the street. My car went into full slamming on my brakes, with no warning light o and I had no control of the car. I was very fortunate that the car behind me was about two lengths back and also braked fast enough to avoid a collision. They did honk, yell, etc., as I was pretty stunned and finally realized I should turn off my car to be able to drive again. I had a very sore neck and shoulder but thought it would clear up. I was driving apx 30 mph. I try as a rule to remember to disable this CMBS every time I get in the car but a month later I forgot The second time it happened, I was actually on the same street, same speed and there was a jacket in the road. Looked like a man’s winter jacket. As I got right up to it, I only needed to correct a little to not run over the jacket with the driver side tire. Exactly when I did that the brakes slammed on and I came to an instant stop and the brakes again locked. This time my injury was compounded and I have since seen two doctors, had an MRI and cervical injection done and my shoulder is not fully functioning yet. I got the car to dealer after the first incident, but was told there was nothing they could do. Waiting until I got thru all the doctors appointments and testing after the second incident, which took about seven weeks, I went back to the dealer. They did thorough inspection, found nothing. Offered trade.
SUV randomly unable to shift out of Park. Push-button electronic shifter rendered useless. Car cannot be manually put into NEUTRAL for towing because Honda does not provide its customers with the tool. They apparently will sell it to you for $200+ dollars if they even have or are willing to give you one. Warning for Transmission System and Blind Spot Systems both appeared. No other codes or indicator prior or at incident.
I brought my 2021 Honda Passport brand new in May 2021. It started having a safety defect issue in July 15, 2022, i placed the vehicle in reverse and proceeded to back out and the vehicle switched to neutral as i was backing out. Then a dash indicator displayed that read stop driving when safe transmission problem, see manual. Then a few weeks later, i put it into drive and proceeded to drive off and the vehicle switched to neutral and the same dash indicator came on that read, stop driving when safe transmission problem, see manual. Then a month later i put it into park and the same message displayed again. Over the past 4 months it has done this intermittently. I feel unsafe as i could be driving at a higher speed on the interstate around others and this issue could occur. I have taken it to the Honda dealership over 3 times. They even had a field inspector from the Honda Corporation to look at it for a couple of hours but they couldn't replicate the issue at all. I have been reaching out to the Honda Corporation since July and they have yet to repurchase my vehicle or give me any solution. I had to wait over two months before i even got a call back from my case manager, as i was reaching out almost daily. I even sent a letter stating that i will be taking action under the vehicle warranty enforcement act for a repurchase of my 2021 Honda passport and still no response. I even wrote a complaint to BBB and they still didn't acknowledge the safety issue.
Our 2021 Honda passport EX-L sometimes hits the brakes on its own. It happens every now and then, like when I'm exiting a freeway, or sometimes even when going with the flow of traffic. I've seen this issue talked about in the [XXX] , but today I saw an official article citing NHTSA concerns, so I'm writing to say that I too have experienced this potential dangerous issue while on road. My vehicle randomly brake checks on its own when it falsely detects the situation in front of me, which could result in a rear end collision. I'd like to see this issue resolved, so please feel free to contact me if you need any more information. Even back in 2022, I was experiencing this issue. This has happened occasionally. The last time was about a few weeks ago on the freeway. Please see the forum screenshot for my reference-- I'm [XXX] in that thread. Here's the article I read today: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I purchased a 2021 Honda Passport Sport on April 30, 2021. Since purchasing the Passport, we have experienced a "Phantom Braking" problem, in which the automatic emergency braking system is deployed for a few seconds. This occurs several times a month. We have taken the Passport to a Honda dealer and they claimed that there maybe some type of obstruction on the emergency braking system camera that is causing the problem. We have not seen any obstruction on the camera and clean it regularly, but we still experience the braking issue. While no serious incident has occurred to date, we are extremely concerned that the braking issue could cause our Passport to brake and be rear ended by a car behind us.
My son was driving on the highway with the adaptive cruise control on. The car in front of him stopped suddenly. The dashboard screen system flashed the word "brake" but not in enough time for him to react. He braked hard but he still rear-ended the car in front of him. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed because the car is no longer drivable. It is sitting at my house waiting for repair of $7,700 damage. I thought the "Honda Sensing System," the combination of the adaptive cruise control and emergency braking, was supposed to bring the car to a halt. My son and his 3 friends were put at risk. I'm very disappointed in the car.
Was nudging Passport into a handicap parking spot at local grocery store. The Passport suddenly the engine raced to full throttle. The brake couldn't stop car as it hit the handicap pole and airbag deployed. The pole Passport to go to the right and ended up on a parking island. The idle went down and after smoke inside car cleared was able to stop engine. The Passport was towed away with extensive front end damage and minor property damage.
My 2021 Honda Passport with under 12K miles has gone into Neutral on its own twice in the past year ( May and October of 2021) It has also slipped into low gear on its own (D1 of an automatic transmission from D3 or D4 in Oct 2021 and March 18 2021. The last incident forced me onto the shoulder to avoid serious injury as I was gaining speed to merge from an entry ramp to a 50 mph, 3 lane Rd. I brought it back to the Honda dealer after the March 18 incident and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I don't trust this transmission and will be forced to sell it back to Honda but am leery of it happening to someone else who may not be able to avoid an accident like I did. I also reported these incidents to Honda on 03/24/22 (case# 12912165)
Automatic high beam headlights turn on and off sporadically causing flashing lights for oncoming traffic.
Confirmed high pressure fuel pump makes a high pitched “chirp” when engine is warm and at idle.
