THE IDLE START/STOP FEATURE CAUSES THE CAR TO STALL WHEN STOPPED. WHEN THE AT A FULL STOP AND THE IDLE/STOP KICKS IN THE CAR DOES NOT COME BACK ON AND SHUTS OFF WITH ALL OF THE LIGHTS IN THE CONSOLE LIGHTING UP AND MUST BE COMPLETELY SHUT-OFF AND RESTARTED, "STALL OUT" AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN WHEN I WAS IN "AUTO IDLE-STOP" AND PRESSED ON THE GAS. I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE AUTO IDLE-STOP WAS HESITATING WHEN IT WOULD START UP. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE RADIO WOULD "CUT OUT". AFTER THAT, THE VEHICLE WOULD JUST STALL OUT AND I WOULD HAVE TO PUSH PARK, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THEN PUSH START. TOOK TO THE DEALER DURING MY LAST SERVICE ON JANUARY 20, 2020 AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE. THE ISSUE HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE AND IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. THE CAR HAS STALLED AT LIGHTS AND POSES A DANGER TO MY WIFE AND 3 YOUNG CHILDREN. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT LOOK INTO IT ANY FURTHER BECAUSE THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I'VE RESEARCHED FORUMS ONLINE AND OTHER HONDA PILOT OWNERS HAVE EXPRESSED THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE.
1| The problem is with the transmission. When we are driving, the Pilot makes jerky movements and the odometer bounces up and down during this time. This happens most of the time... it is rare when the transmission feels smooth. Also, sometimes when in reverse the Pilot jerks and makes it hard to control when backing up into a parking spot. This happens from time to time, but not every time. There is a known issue about the Honda Pilot 2016 having major transmission issues where it makes the vehicle jerky when accelerating. Yes, we can provide the vehicle for inspection. It is a struggle to get up to speed when it feels like the Pilot is losing power. Also, once I backing up into the parking spot, the Pilot was making jerking movements and I could have damaged the cars that were parked behind me if I didn't throw the Pilot into neutral. Overall, it is a safety concern for my family of six. 3| The Honda dealerships seem to be aware of the issue but will not do anything about it. They recommend a transmission flush and computer repair/upgrade but are not willing to guarantee it will fix the issue. Others online have reported that the flush and computer repair did not fix the problem. We called Honda of America directly about the problem and were not willing to help us out. They offered no solutions. 4| No, we reached out to Honda of America and they are not willing to help us. We are not sure who to reach out to about the issue. Hopefully, NHTSA can finally help us. 5| Not sure if this issue was related to the transmission problem but the emissions light came on a month after purchasing the Pilot. Honda is known for having oil dilution problems and it could have lead to the issue.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR.
WE OWN A 2016 HONDA PILOT ELITE WITH AUTO START/STOP FEATURE. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 78,000 MILES AND BEGAN EXHIBITING ISSUES WITH THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE. WHEN STOPPED AT ANY LOCATION, THE AUTO STOP ENGAGES AND TURNS OFF THE ENGINE AND SHOULD RESTART WHEN YOU LIFT YOUR FOOT OF THE BRAKE; BUT IT IS NOW TURNING ALL THE POWER TO THE VEHICLE OFF (RADIO OFF, A/C OFF, DASH LIGHTS OFF). IN SOME CASES THE DASH WILL FLICKER WITH AND DASH LIGHTS WILL ELIMINATE FOR A SECOND. AS A RESULT YOU CANNOT MOVE THE VEHICLE AND ARE STUCK IN A DANGEROUS PLACE (CAN'T PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, NO POWER). THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS; AT STOP LIGHTS WHERE CARS BEHIND YOU GET FRUSTRATED AND HONK THEIR HORNS (TAKES SEVERAL MINUTES TO START BACK UP IF YOU ARE LUCKY) AND MOST CONCERNING IS IF YOU ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION AND ABOUT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, WHILE WAITING TO MAKE THE TURN, THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF ' NOW WE ARE STUCK IN THE INTERSECTION WITH TWO KIDS IN THE VEHICLE. NOW ONCOMING TRAFFIC IS EITHER FAST APPROACHING OR HONKING BECAUSE WE ARE BLOCKING THE LANE. WE HAVE BEEN ALMOST STRUCK ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE ONLY WORK AROUND IS TO TURN THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE OFF (PUSHING THE BUTTON) WHEN YOU FIRST GET IN THE VEHICLE, BUT IF YOU FORGET ' WE MIGHT GET KILLED. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE. MY BATTERY TESTED FINE. I LOCATED NUMEROUS HONDA PILOT POSTS ONLINE THAT INDICATE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, DATING BACK TO THE 2016, BUT NO ONE IS HELPING THE CONSUMER. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS A DELAY IN REPAIRING THIS ISSUE; IT IS NOT JUST A GENERAL INCONVENIENCE, IT IS A SAFETY RISK. WE ARE FRUSTRATED AND SCARED. IF WE TRADE THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER CAR, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE NEXT FAMILY THAT PURCHASES THIS VEHICLE ' DO THEY SUFFER THE FATAL OUTCOME.
VEHICLE GETS KEYLESS START IGNITION PROBLEM
CAR STALLS AND DOES NOT RESTART. CAR HAS AUTO IDLE STOP FEATURE. WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR COMPLETELY DIES AND CANNOT BE RESTARTED. NO EMERGENCY LIGHT, NO LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD, CANNOT LOCK CAR, CANNOT PUT INTO NEUTRAL, MUST BE TOWED. CAR FIRST STARTED STOPPING AT STOP LIGHTS IN CITY STREETS IN 2017. WOULD TAKE A FEW ATTEMPTS TO RESTART. BROUGHT TO DEALER TO STATE MY CONCERN THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN IN THE FREEWAY AND THEY CHECKED AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. ON 3/19/20, DRIVING IN THE FREEWAY, I HAD TO STOP FOR TRAFFIC. CAR DIED COMPLETELY. I COULDN'T EVEN TURN ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHT. I HAD TO OPEN MY DOOR A LITTLE BIT, STICK MY ARM OUT AND WAVE FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. SEMI TRUCKS WERE QUICKLY CHANGING LANES TO AVOID REAR-ENDING ME. IT WAS THE MOST FRIGHTENING INCIDENT THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A TRANSMISSION SENSOR ERROR AND CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED IT. 4/2/20 AS MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE EXITING THE FREEWAY, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. WE STOPPED AT THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE EXIT WHEN THE CAR JUST STALLED. AGAIN TOTALLY DEAD. IT'S JUST A PARKED CAR THAT CANNOT BE RESTARTED. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER. I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. THE DEALER'S ATTEMPTS TO FIX IT DID NOT WORK. THE DEALER WAS CLOSED WHEN WE DROPPED IT OFF TONIGHT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE CAR JUST DIES AND WILL NOT RESTART. THERE IS NOT EVEN A WAY TO TURN ON THE EMERGENCY BLINKING LIGHTS TO ALERT OTHER MOTORISTS OF A STALLED CAR. HAD THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN THE DARK, MY DAUGHTER AND I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.
VEHICLE DISPLAYS KEYLESS START SYSTEM ERROR. *TR
NOTICED PAINT PEELING OFF THE ROOF, BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND THE MOONROOF FOR NO REASON WHILE MY CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. NO DINGS OR DENTS IN THE AREA. CALLED HONDA HEADQUARTERS TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T HELP. THEN I WANT TO GO WASH THE CAR SO I COULD APPLY SOME TOUCH CUP PAINT TO SEAL IT UP AND IT STARTING TO PEAL OFF EVER MORE. JUST PEALING WAY AND SPREADING. ALSO NOTICED A SMALL PATCH OF RUSTING UNDER THE REAR TRUNK.
OUR PILOT HAS A "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" WARNING LIGHT. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS ON THE INTERNET WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE COST OF REPAIR IS APX 300.00. HONDA SHOULD HAVE A RECALL
BOUGHT MY HONDA IN FEBRUARY A MONTH LATER A EMISSION SYSTEM STARTED POPPING UP I HAVE REPLACED ALL 4 SENSORS MAF MAP SENSORS STILL ISNT FIXED THEY ARE TELLING ME IT'S THE FUEL INJECTORS AND I HAVE NO WARRANTY SAID IT'S A HONDA THING AND NEEDS RECALLED CAN CAUSE POOR DRIVING HONDA REALLY NEEDS TO FIX IT AND THE AWD LIGHT POPS UP AND GOES AWAY AND COMES BACK NO MECHANICS CAN FIGURE THAT OUT
KEYLESS START PROBLEM ERROR. FLASHING AND HAS PROBLEMS STARTING.
ON 3/15/2020, MY FAMILY AND I WERE IN OUR 2016 AWD HONDA PILOT ELITE. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION GETTING WORSE SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA (APPROX. 25 MPH), THE CAR SUDDENLY "LURCHED/JERKED" FORWARD WITH SOME FORCE WHEN WE WERE SLOWING DOWN TO A POSTED STOP SIGN. THIS WAS A HUGE ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT PEOPLE WERE CROSSING RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. AFTER THIS, WE PROCEEDED TO HEAD HOME. AGAIN THE CAR BEGAN TO "JERK/LURCH" FORWARD WHEN WE ATTEMPTED TO PERFORM A SLOW SPEED NORMAL STOP, CAUSING US TO ALMOST REAR END THE VEHICLES IN FRONT OF US. LASTLY, BEFORE GETTING HOME, DURING THE PILOT'S ACCELERATION FROM A STOPPED POSITION, BETWEEN THE 1-4 GEARS, THE CAR AGAIN WOULD EITHER JERK FORWARD UNPREDICTABLY OR NOT EVEN SHIFT INTO GEAR PROPERLY, LEAVING THE CAR WITH NO POWER TO GET MOVING. NOW IF THIS WASN'T ENOUGH TO WANT SOMEONE TO TAKE THEIR CAR IN, ON 3/16/2020, MY WIFE WAS BACKING THE CAR OUT OF OUR GARAGE. WHEN SHE SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE, THE ENTIRE ENGINE/FRONT END OF THE CAR VIOLENTLY SHUTTERED (ASSUMED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION DRIVE ASSEMBLY) AND WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY TO REVERSE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN TO LIGHT UP THE DASH ALONG WITH OTHER ELECTRICAL WARNING LIGHTS. WE EVENTUALLY GOT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED IT AND THEY ARE INDICATING TO US THAT IT IS A TRANSMISSION MODULE REPAIR/RE-CALIBRATION THAT NEEDS SOFTWARE UPDATES AS WELL. NOT REALLY SURE ABOUT THESE REPAIRS AS WE HAVE BEEN INDICATING TO OUR HONDA DEALERSHIP THESE PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRANSMISSION SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR, BUT THEY ASSURED US OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIND ANYTHING WRONG, UNTIL NOW, WHEN OUR WARRANTY EXPIRED. SEEN A TON OF INTERNET POSTS ABOUT FAULTY 2016/2017 HONDA PILOT TRANSMISSIONS AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE YET.
I NOTICED THE CAR STARTED JERKING BETWEEN 30-50 MPH. THE RPM'S WOULD ALSO PULSE AT THE SAME TIME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND OF COURSE THE WARRANTY WAS OUT. THEY 'RECOMMEND A TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSH AND THE INTAKE NEEDED CLEANING.' SUPPOSEDLY THE INTAKE IS DIGITAL AND IT AFFECTS THE TRANSMISSION. THEY FOUND THE TRANSMISSION OIL WAS BURNT DUE TO HIGH TRANSMISSION TEMP. ALL OF THIS WAS DONE ON MARCH 10 2020. AUGUST 17 2020 I TOOK IT BACK TO HONDA WITH WORSE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THIS TIME WHEN I WOULD PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE IT WOULD JERK INTO GEAR. MY WIFE SAYS WHILE DRIVING IT JERKS HARD AT RANDOM TIMES. THIS TIME THEY RECOMMEND ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FLUSH BECAUSE 1/3 OF THE OIL WAS STILL BAD. APPARENTLY AFTER READING ON THIS SITE, THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE 2016 HONDA PILOT TRANSMISSIONS. IS IT GOING TO TAKE A COUPLE OF DEATHS BEFORE HONDA ACCEPTS RESPONSIBILITY THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS FAULTY?
WARNING LIGHT KEEPS INDICATING THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MY KEYLESS REMOTE. I'VE CHANGED THE BATTERY, BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. SOMETIMES THE LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON. IT'S ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME. IT HAPPENS WHEN I FIRST START THE CAR AS WELL AS WHEN I'M IN MOTION.
I HAD TO PRESS MY START BUTTON MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THE VEHICLE TO START. THE VEHICLE WOULD DISPLAY A MESSAGE 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM'. UPON REPLACING THE START/STOP BUTTON, IT APPEARS TO HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE. I FOUND MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHERS ONLINE WITH THE 2016 PILOT.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM. UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEYLESS KEY WHEN KEY IS DETECTED IN THE VEHICLE.
2016 HONDA PILOT EX-L. FOR MONTHS, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHOWING A KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR MESSAGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERIES IN BOTH FOBS AND I HAVE CHECKED ALL OF THE FUSES, AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH HONDA PILOTS.
IDLE STOP ENGAGES WHILE STOPPED. WHEN TIME TO MOVE THE CAR SHUTS ITSELF OFF AND DOESN'T RESTART. HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND HIT THE START BUTTON SOMETIMES TWICE BEFORE IT WILL RESTART. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST 4-5 MONTHS.
WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE AUTO START/STOP WILL FAIL RANDOMLY. THIS THEN LEAVES THE DRIVER STUCK FOR UP TO 1 MINUTE IN TRAFFIC WITH THE CAR UNRESPONSIVE TO THE START BUTTON. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO HONDA SERVICE STATIONS IN BOTH GEORGIA AND OHIO. AFTER REPLACEMENTS OF BATTERIES, AS PER HONDA RECOMMENDATIONS, THERE IS STILL NO REMEDY FOR THE PROBLEM. A DRIVER COULD EASILY BE REAR-ENDED AND ULTIMATELY HARMED WHEN LEFT STRANDED ON A BUSY STREET WITH NO ABILITY TO START THE CAR BACK IN A TIMELY FASHION. WHEN PROGRESSING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR, THIS MODEL VIOLENTLY JERKS. THIS HAPPENS DESPITE TIMELY SERVICE EXCLUSIVELY ONE AT HONDA SERVICE STATIONS. EACH TIME IT IS REPORTED, MY WIFE IS TOLD THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE. ULTIMATELY IT APPEARS TO BE A TRANSMISSION ISSUE TO WHICH HONDA WILL NOT ADMIT FAULT.
THE REMOTE START FEATURE DOES NOT WORK. LIGHTS DO NOT FLASH WHEN YOU LOCK THE VEHICLE NOR DOES THE HORN MAKE A NOISE WHEN YOU USE THE KEY FOB TO LOCK THE DOOR. HAVE TAKE. IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE REPLACED A MODULE IN THE DOOR SAYING IT WAS NOT GETTING GOOD SIGNAL. THAT PART DID NOT WORK
ON FRIDAY, 2/21, THE 'EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM' CAME ON MY DASH (AGAIN). DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALER ON MONDAY, 2/24. WE WERE TOLD THE FUEL INJECTORS ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEN WE GOT A CALL BACK THAT AFTER THEY GOT IN THERE, ALL THE SEALS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TOO. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS BRAND NEW CAR FOR 4 YEARS & 4 MONTHS. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA.
APEAR AIR BAG LIGHT.AND POWER STERING LIGHT
WITH LESS THAN 40K MILES, THE VEHICLE RECEIVED A MESSAGE ABOUT AN ENGINE PROBLEM. TOOK TO DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT IT WOULD REQUIRE NEW FUEL INJECTORS, AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1300. I HAVE HAD OTHER HONDA VEHICLES THAT HAVE GONE 100K MILES AND MORE WITHOUT SUCH PROBLEM. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. IT SHOULD BE COVERED ON SUCH A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE REQARDLESS OF VEHICLE AGE.
I exited the freeway and was stop at the light at the off ramp. When the light turned green, I accelerated but the car died. The steering wheel was completely locked up. There was no power and I couldn’t even activate the hazard button. I couldn’t restart the car until several minutes later. This is an ongoing issue. This happens once every several months. I’ve reached out to Honda on several occasions but they couldn’t resolved it. They ran diagnostics but no error code would pop up and since they couldn’t duplicate the problem, they couldn’t fix it.
WHILE STOPPED AT A FREEWAY OFF RAMP. THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF THE ENGINE PER THE START/STOP FEATURE. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN THE CAR DID NOT RESTART AND INSTEAD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND PUT ITSELF INTO PARK. I HAD TROUBLE RESTARTING WHILE TRAFFIC BUILT UP BEHIND ME. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND DISCONCERTING PROBLEM.
2016 PILOT ALONG WITH OTHER MAKES AND MODELS ARE SHOWING KEYLESS START SYSTEM ERROR BETWEEN 30,000 AND 65,000 MILES. VEHICLES HAVE TROUBLE STARTING IGNITION DUE TO FAULTY PUSH BUTTON IGNITION SWITCHES AND MODULES. THIS ISSUE CAN CAUSE OCCUPANTS TO BE LOCKED IN THE VEHICLE AND POTENTIALLY UNABLE TO TURN VEHICLE OFF INSIDE COVERED GARAGES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR WHICH HONDA I HAS BEEN AWARE OF FOR SOME TIME. ISSUE HAS OCCURRED WHILE STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. THIS ISSUE HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHILE INSIDE MY HOME GARAGE.
WE WERE HIT ON THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS SIDES OF THE VEHICLE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS TRAVELLING AT AN ESTIMATED 90-100 MPH, AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MY VEHICLE WAS TRAVELLING AT ABOUT 50 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE WHEN IT WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FIRST. THE FORCE OF THAT IMPACT PUSHED MY VEHICLE INTO A LARGE BOX TRUCK ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE POLICE STATED THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED WITH THE EXTREME FORCE OF THE IMPACT.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM RANDOMLY SOMETIMES DOESN'T LOCK THE DOORS WITH THE REMOTE, OR WON'T HONK AND LIGHTS WON'T FLASHWHEN LOCKING THE DOORS.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM APPEARED WITH NO ASSOCIATED ISSUES SUCH AS STARTING THE VEHICLE. ERROR MESSAGE WAS INTERMITTENT FOR 2-3 MONTHS. ULTIMATELY IT BECAME A CONSTANT ERROR. MECHANIC PERFORMED DIAGNOSIS AND REPORTED THAT THIS ERROR SHOULD BE COUPLED WITH VEHICLE STARTING ISSUES. THE ALARM WAS RESET AND CAME BACK WITHIN 48 HOURS. THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 58K MILES WHEN THE PROBLEM BEGAN. HONDA PILOT FORUMS INDICATE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2016 PILOT. OWNERS HAVE EXHAUSTED THE ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS (ELECTRONIC SWITCH REPLACEMENT, IGNITION MODULE REPLACEMENT WITH DEALERSHIPS). HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM DOES NOT ALWAYS GO AWAY. MY ERROR APPEARED WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE (STATIONARY POSITION).
THERE ARE TWO MAJOR PROBLEMS, BUT THE DANGEROUS ONE IS THE AUTO-IDLE DOESN'T ALWAYS ALLOW THE CAR TO RESTART. WHEN I GO INTO IDLE AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT AND I START TO ACCELERAT, ALL OF THE LIGHTS INSIDE SHUT OFF AND THE CAR STALLS AFTER A FOOT OR TWO. SO FAR IT HAS ALWAYS MANAGED TO RESTART ITSELF, BUT I'VE STARTED TURNING IT OFF WHENEVER I GET INTO THE CAR BECAUSE THIS IS DANGEROUS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS AND IT HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE (IT PROBABLY STARTED A YEAR AGO). AT THE SAME TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, I GOT A "KEYLESS IGNITION PROBLEM" WARNING LIGHT. THE WALK AWAY LOCK FEATURE DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE. I'VE READ NUMEROUS REPORTS THAT SAY FIXING THE KEYLESS SWITCH DOESN'T HELP WITH THE AUTO IDLE AND THERE'S NO SPECIFIC ERROR CODE FOR ISSUES WITH THE AUTO IDLE SYSTEM.
I BOUGHT A CPO 2016 HONDA PILOT EX 3/23/2019. I HAVE A TRANSMISSION JERKING ISSUE AND BRING BACK TO FREEWAY HONDA, SANTA ANA, IN SEP 2019. THEY FLUSH THE ATF AND THE SITUATION TURNS BACK DAYS LATER. I BRING IT BACK IN 1/29/2020 AND ASK FOR SAME TRANSMISSION ISSUE. BUT THEY SHOW TIRE PRESSURE CHECK ON THE INVOICE. I REALLY WONDERED THEY TRY TO HIDE THE DEFECT AND WON'T FIND OUT ANY PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE BY SEARCHING ITS VIN NUMBER. THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS HARD TO SHIFT WHEN 3RD TO 4TH, 28-32 MPH; HARD TO SHIFT WHEN DOWNSHIFT 3RD TO 2ND IN AROUND 22 MPH. NOW I AM THINKING TO FILE THE LEMON LAW BUT THEY WON'T LET ME BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T TELL THE TRUTH.
WHILE UNDER MODERATE ACCELERATION AT A RANGE OF SPEEDS (10-40MPH), THERE IS A SURGING RPM AND A SHUDDER SEEMINGLY FROM THE POWER TRAIN. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE MORE APPARENT WITH LIGHT TO HEAVY LOADING AN AN INCLINE. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. TWO DEALERSHIPS HAVE NOT WANTED TO ATTEMPT TO FIX PROBLEM IF NOT COVERED BY FACTORY WARRANTY IN SPITE OF A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 17-014 THAT DESCRIBES MY SYMPTOM ACCURATELY. THERE SHOULD BE A MANDATED RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BELIEVE THE CUSTOMER AFTER REPEATED DESCRIPTIONS OF EXPERIENCING THE KNOW MANUFACTURING PROBLEM.
EMISSIONS SYSTEM ERROR DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING. NEXT DAY I TOOK TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL INJECTORS AND THE WHOLE FUEL INJECTOR UNIT SHOULD BE REPLACED. SINCE MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF 3 YR/36000 MILES WARRANTY, THE DEALER QUOTED $1700 TO REPLACE THE FUEL INJECTORS. I'M VERY SUPPRESSED SEE THIS ISSUE ON RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM BEING DISPLAYED. STILL ABLE TO START VEHICLE, UNKNOWN HOW MUCH LONGER OR WHAT IF ANY FEATURES CAN AND WILL BE DISABLED. SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO DEFECTIVE START/STOP SWITCH.
EMISSION ISSUE STARTED SHOWING AS A WARNING SIGN. AND, IT COMES AND GOES TO EVEN PROPERLY REPORT THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, AFTER 3 YEARS MARK (42,OOO MILES) IT SHOWED ALL THE POSSIBLE SIGNS ON THE SCREEN. HONDA SERVICE CENTER SAYS THAT FUEL INJECTORS WENT BAD. IT TAKES $1350 TO FIX IT. I HAVE PICTURE PROOFS SAYING THAT THE EMISSION ISSUE POPPED UP WELL BEFORE 32 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE (IN WARRANTY).
SUDDENLY RECEIVING A 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM' ERROR MESSAGE. I HAD PARKED ON A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET IN 70 DEGREE WEATHER AT SUNSET AND THE NEXT TIME I GOT INTO MY CAR, THERE WAS THE ERROR MESSAGE WHEN I TURNED IT ON.
THE CAR IS AROUND 58K. THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED. I REPLACED AND ALL BATTERIES OF THE FOB AND RESET EVERY THING TO THE FACTORY SETTING, BUT PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS AND THE WALK AWAY AUTO LOCK IS ALSO NO LONGER FUNCTIONING AFTER THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED.
There is loud clicking from the driver's power seat while attempting to adjust the height of the seat. The height of the seat cannot be adjusted, which inhibits the driver's ability to see things in front of and around the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by a Honda dealership. The dealership said that the entire seat must be replaced at a cost of $2600.
Auto idle stop malfunctions regularly without any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms before the malfunction. This causes the vehicle to restart automatically or it requires the driver to restart the vehicle manually. An error message appears on the console screen for less than one second at the time of the problem, but no warning or error messages before or after. This presents a safety issue (i.e., risk of collision) to the driver and other passengers when attempting to accelerate when a traffic light turns green, proceeding after a stop sign , or turning left in front of oncoming vehicles. Service technicians at multiple Honda service centers have reproduced the problem, with the only solution being to replace the battery on two separate occasions (Jan-2020 and Sep-2022). However, the issue pre-dates Jan-2020 but the Honda service center did not perform any repairs after the diagnostic scans.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO INCREASE IN SPEED WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE SHUDDERING IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CRISWELL HONDA 19525 AMARANTH DR, GERMANTOWN, MD 20874, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR CALLED FOR A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO THE TRANSMISSION AND TO FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY PERIOD BEING EXCEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
2 WEEK AGO, I AM GETTING AN "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR" WHEN EVER I WANT TO START THE CAR. LATER ON THE MESSAGE HAS STOPPED BUT NOW THE CAR WONT LOCK UPON EXITING LIKE IS USED TO DO BEFORE THIS ERROR MESSAGE. I CHECKED THE CONFIGURATION SETTING AND AUTO LOCK UPON EXITING IS ENABLED.

WHEN I START MY CAR, I GET "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" ERROR ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS ERROR COMES SOMETIMES AND THEN GOES AWAY FOR DAYS AND THEN COMES BACK. SHOWED IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I SEE LOT OF PEOPLE REPORTING THIS ERROR ON HONDA FORUMS. THE CAR FUNCTIONS PROPERLY OTHERWISE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS AND IF THERE IS ANY MAJOR PROBLEM WITH IT.
ON JANUARY 13TH, I LEFT MY HOME TO PICK UP MY SON, JULIAN, 3 YEARS OLD, AT PRESCHOOL. HIS PRESCHOOL IS APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES FROM OUR HOME. I PICKED HIM UP, AND DROVE THE SAME DISTANCE BACK TO OUR HOUSE, ARRIVING HOME AROUND 4:45PM. I HAD NO UNUSUAL WARNING NOTIFICATIONS OR ANY UNUSUAL EXPERIENCE DRIVING TO AND FROM THE PRESCHOOL. I PARKED THE CAR IN OUR DRIVEWAY. JULIAN AND I EXITED THE VEHICLE, AND WALKED TO OUR FRONT DOOR. AS WE APPROACHED THE FRONT DOOR I SMELLED SMOKE, AND LOOKED BACK AT THE CAR. I NOTICED A SMALL FLICKER IN THE PASSENGER SIDE LOWER HEADLIGHT. UPON CLOSER LOOK, I REALIZED THIS WAS IN FACT A FLAME. JULIAN AND I LEFT OUR BAGS ON THE PORCH, STEPPED OFF OF OUR FRONT PORCH, AND MOVED AWAY FROM THE HOUSE AND CAR, AND CALLED 911. AS WE WAITED FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, WE WATCHED THIS SMALL FLAME GROW TO FULL FLAMES, ENGULFING THE ENGINE, FRONT HOOD, AND FRONT OF THE CAR. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED, AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE CAR WAS TOWED OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MONTCLAIR POLICE DEPT. IT WAS SERVICED LAST WEEK. IT HAS ~30,000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALER THAT SOLD US THE CAR, PAUL MILLER HONDA, IN NJ, HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE, TELLING US TO REACH OUT THE THE NATIONAL HONDA OFFICE. I HAVE FILED A CASE WITH HONDA, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD SOMEONE WILL REACH OUT TO ME. THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED.
MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON INCLUDING ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION WARNING, TRAILER STABILITY ASSIST WARNING, HILL START ASSIST WARNING, VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST WARNING, EMISSIONS SYSTEM CONTROL WARNING, ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM WARNING, POWER STEERING WARNING AND ACC WARNING WHERE ALL CAME UP AT THE SAME TIME WITH A SUDDEN JERK AND CAR CANNOT GO BEYOND 20 MI/HR WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY THAT ALMOST GOT ME INTO AN ACCIDENT WITH AN INDIVIDUAL ON THE REAR ALMOST BUMPED ME. NOW I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I ACTUALLY GOT THE ATTENTION OF MY DEALER (NORRIS HONDA) WHEN THE JERKING STARTED AT THE MILEAGE OF 34,100 MILES AND HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BUT WITH NO WARNING LIGHT COMING ON. THEY DID A TEST DRIVE AND IT SO HAPPENED THAT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHEN THEY TESTED IT AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENCE OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH HONDA PILOT 2016 AND 2017 AND IS A COMMON ISSUE AND ENDED UP HAVING TO CHANGE THE FUEL INJECTORS AND HAVE SOLVED THEIR PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM THOUGH IS, MY CAR IS ONLY 3YRS OLD AND HAVING ALL THESE PROBLEMS NOW AND THEY CHARGE $1800.00 TO CHANGE THE INJECTORS, WHICH I THINK IS WAY TOO MUCH FOR A FAIRLY NEW CAR WITH DEALER BEING AWARE OF THE FIRST JERKING PROBLEMS BEFORE THE WARRANTY ENDED. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ALL HONDA CARS SINCE I STARTED HAVING A CAR BECAUSE OF ITS RELIABILITY AND PERFORMANCE AND NOW THIS HAPPENED. IT HAS BEEN A VERY COMMON PROBLEM BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE. DRIVER'S SEAT BELT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. IT IS AT LEAST 10 INCHES SHORTER THAT ALL OTHER SEAT BELTS IN THE VEHICLE. THIS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO LOOK AROUND AND SEE CLEARLY WHEN BACKING, TURNING, AND MERGING. ALSO, THERE IS NOT AN ELR WITH THIS BELT. THIS SEEMS LIKE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.
MY PILOT HAS A MESSAGE THAT READS "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM." I HAVE CHANGED THE BATTERY IN THE PHONE AND REPLACED THE PUSH BUTTON START ASSEMBLY. NOTHING HAS REMOVED THE MESSAGE. I HAVE SEARCHED HONDA PILOT FORUMS AND FOUND HUNDREDS WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE FOUND THAT NO DEALERSHIP HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM. MOST HAVE SPENT $500 + AT DEALERSHIPS WITH NO RESULTS.MY MESSAGE STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. HONDA SHOULD FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG AND RECALL ON EFFECTED CARS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
KEYLESS START ERROR MESSAGE PERSISTS UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE DESPITE KEYLESS REMOTE (FOR THE MOMENT) STILL WORKING. MESSAGE STAYS ON WHILE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. MULTIPLE DRIVERS OF SAME MODEL OF PILOT REPORT SAME PROBLEM STARTING BETWEEN 35-40K MILES.
HONDA PILOT 2016 JERKS WHEN ACCELERATING THAT CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO BURN SO IT REQUIRES MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSHES FROM THE BURNT OIL. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN ACCELERATING TO PASS OTHER VEHICLES AND SOMETHING HONDA SHOULD BE FIXING SO THEIR CARS DON'T KEEP OVERHEATING FLEQUENTLY AND DESTROYING THE TRANSMISSION.
