Rear glass window exploded outward. It was parked in the parking lot and was not forcefully shut or anything. Luckily, I was not driving when this happened and no one was hurt but it was very odd. No extreme temperatures. No extreme pressure from inside the vehicle. It is very unusual what happened.
WHILE DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY, SUNROOF EXPLODED. SMALL PIECES OF GLASS PIECES WENT FLYING EVERYWHERE.
MOONROOF SHATTERED FROM THE CENTER OF THE MOONROOF WHILE DRIVING ON PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE ON WORK COMMUTE AT APPROXIMATELY 10 A.M. 06/03/2020. THIS WAS APPROACHING THE WILLOW ROVE EXIT AND VEHICLE WAS ALREADY BEGINNING TO SLOW AS THE OFF RAMP WAS COMING UP IN A MILE. NOTHING HIT THE VEHICLE THAT COULD BE DETERMINED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA PILOT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, A LOUD EXPLOSION SUDDENLY OCCURRED AND THE PASSENGER SIDE EXTERIOR MIRROR DISLODGED FROM THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. DURING THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE HAD NOT MADE CONTACT WITH ANYTHING TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, NO OTHER VEHICLES IN FRONT OF OR BESIDE ME. I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION SOUND AND SAW MOST OF MY SUNROOF LAND ON THE ROAD BEHIND ME. NO ROCKS OR OTHER PROJECTILES IMPACTED THE GLASS BEFORE IT HAPPENED. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE TO THE SUNROOF. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS OR INDICATIONS THAT THERE WAS ABOUT TO BE AN ISSUE WITH IT. THE WEATHER WAS CLOUDY WITH A TEMPERATURE OF APPROXIMATELY 70 DEGREES.
PASSENGER AND BACK LEFT PASSENGER WINDOWS EITHER CAME OFF TRACK OR TRACK BECAME "GUMMED UP". BOTH ISSUED OCCURRED WHILE IN MOTION AND WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF EACH OTHER. WINDOW MADE THIS GRINDING NOISE WHEN LOWERING AND WOULD NOT GO BACK UP. NO INCIDENT WAS REPORTED OTHER THEN TAKING THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO GET AN ESTIMATE. THE GRINDING NOISE SOUNDS LIKE GLASS ON METAL WHEN WINDOW IS RAISED OR LOWERED. REQUIRED FIX FROM DEALERSHIP WAS A NEW TRACK INSTALLED AND WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENT. REPAIRS WERE QUOTED AT $750 PER WINDOW. ONE WINDOW GOES BAD AND CHALK IT UP AS A FLUKE. SAME ISSUE ON BOTH WINDOWS...MANUFACTURER DEFECT!
LONG STORY SHORT..TODAY AROUND 4:10 PM (2016 HONDA PILOT EX-L), AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 65 MPH, I HEAR A LOUD BOOM.. I'M WHAT THE [XXX]... AS I LOOK BACK IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR, I SEE A PIECE OF THE GLASS FROM MY SUN ROOF, SLAM ONTO THE GROUND AND THE TRUCK BEHIND STARTED TO DODGE THE GLASS, AFTER THAT I STARTED TO HEAR WIND NOISE FROM THE SUN ROOF. SO I TOOK A LOOK AND MY SUN ROOF GLASS WAS GONE, IF I WERE TO HAVE MY SUN ROOF COVER OPEN, THAT GLASS WOULD OF HIT ME RIGHT IN THE FACE OR EVEN IN MY EYES. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY A SUDDEN LOUD BANG OCCURRED WHICH SOUNDED EXACTLY LIKE A GUNSHOT GOING OFF AND GLASS SHOWERED DOWN ON MY HEAD. STARTLED, I SWERVED ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT LUCKILY DID NOT HIT ANY OTHER VEHICLES. I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY AND FOUND THAT MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED WITH NO OUTSIDE INFLUENCE. IT WAS SHATTERED AND THE GLASS WAS BLOW OUT IN AN UPWARD FASHION, AS IF IT HAD HAPPENED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS NOT FROM AN OUTSIDE SOURCE. I WAS GIVEN A LOANER CAR AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT, BUT THIS HAPPENED 9/23/2016 AND IT IS YET TO BE SEEN IF I WILL NEED TO FRONT ANY MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET.
