There are 14 owner-reported driver assist & adas complaints for the 2017 Honda Pilotin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
Collision Mitigation Braking System camera failure indictions appeared in the dashboard control center. I took the vehicle to the Honda dealership who stated there is not an active recall and that this was not a covered expense. Out of caution because I have read of the system failues causing brake lock-up related to over 40 vehicular crashes and almost twice that number of injuries, I decided to immediately obtain this $2,000 repair. I contact Honda of America to start a claim for a goodwill reimbursement and they told me only (and repeatedly) that the vehicle was too old, out of warranty and that they WOULD NOT consider reimbursement of the repair to this integrated and vital safety system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has documented 2,976 complaints involving unintended automatic braking in Honda vehicles, with 47 crashes and 93 injuries reported. These issues involve Honda vehicles equipped with camera-based collision mitigation braking systems similar to the one used in the 2017 Pilot. Because this failure involves a core safety system component, and because there is: -documented evidence of system-wide safety investigations -thousands of consumer complaints -shared safety technology across the Honda lineup I requested reimbursement from Honda America. They made ZERO effort to acknowledge this safety system fault and clearly stated they would not reimburse me NOR would the customer service representative provide me with any guidance on how to further pursue the matter. NHTSA complaints involving the 2017 Honda Pilot reference failures involving the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Adaptive Cruise Control warnings, all systems dependent on the same forward-facing camera architecture. Front multipurpose camera replacement was the final repair needed and NOT reimbursed.
2017 Honda Pilot Errors: lane keeping assist problem LKAS adaptive cruise control problem ACC road departure mitigation system problem RDM collision mitigation system problem CMBS or Collision Mitigation Braking System
Multiple lights, for ACC, Lane Departure, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Keeping Assistance system. None of the systems works. Safety of myself and others put at risk due to systems not working and preventing collision. The problem was confirmed by the dealer. Multipurpose camera not operating, required replacement of camera for systems to operate.
ACC, LKAS, collision avoidance, and other safety features lights all came on at once.
Four warning lights have been on for the past week. Brought it to Honda for diagnosis and repair, and they state that the multi-purpose camera has failed and will need to be replaced at a cost of $1,900. This is seems like a huge safety issue and, after reading several forums, appears to be a global issue.
When Engine goes idle during the brief traffic stop, Collision mitigation warning shows on and goes off quickly, sometimes causes the engine to not turn on during the times. Problem is so intermittent and hard to track as it is random behaviour and comes on for milli seconds in terms of warning on the dash board.
During the last week, alerts would appear on my dash from the Collision Mitigation Braking System and Road Departure Mitigation System. These alerts will appear while driving at 30mph on a city street. When the alerts appear, the brakes are activated and the steering wheel locks up. The alerts immediately clear but it is very alarming to the driver and passengers. Yesterday while parallel parking, in the mist of reversing into the parking space, the systems triggered alerts along with a transmission alert. The system immediately put the vehicle into park and would not permit the change of gears. While halfway in the parking spot with the front of the vehicle sticking out into on coming traffic, I was forced to completely turn the vehicle off, wait about 3 minutes before turning it back on. This allowed me to complete parking the vehicle in the spot.
The front facing camera was working intermittently. When it wasn’t working all the advanced driving features would not work. After several months the car would intermittently go into limp mode per the dealership due to electrical confusion with all the codes/lights from the camera malfunction and shift while driving into neutral nearly causing me to have an accident while making a left hand turn. The camera had to be replaced at a large cost and they said it was not able to be repaired despite the fact that it worked perfectly 10% of engine starts
Over the past couple months, while driving the collision mitigation braking system would activate for no reason. As of 2 weeks ago, now my collision mitigation braking system does not work and on the dashboard display it shows collision mitigation system problem. I have read on multiple Honda boards and general internet search on this issue, many people are having the same issue. This issue has been affecting people for maybe 5 years. I’m wondering why this is not a safety recall for the Honda vehicles.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently drifted into another lane. The collision mitigation system, the ACC, and LKAS warning lights, the road mitigation warning light and the brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed and produced codes: by001c-swlka and u0104, indicating “A Loss of Communication with the Body Control Module) however, the contact was not provided a clear diagnostic result of what parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
Instrument Cluster goes blank, audio unit goes black, back up camera & sensors not working at times. My audio unit was replaced on 5/10/21, after experiencing these system for several months. The new Display audio 39540-TG7-A42RM worked approximately 2 weeks before symptoms started appearing again, with the most severe popping sound that occurred 7/07/22. Display was sluggish for about a week, then a loud startling popping sound came from inside the dash while driving on the highway yesterday, followed by a crack under the right navigation vent trim. The display turned black, tried to reboot, & was very sluggish, and slow to respond. Then the engine transmission jumped, while this is all going on. I was on the highway, and thought I was going to crash, due to my vehicle losing function. The vehicle “jumped” like the transmission was slipping, so much so, that I thought my car was going to lose control. I had to turn around to head home fearing I could lose control of my vehicle, as the navigation display would freeze at times. Today, the display will boot up slowly, with just the lower left corner only, then slowly returning to normal. This happens when I start my car each time, and sometimes while I am driving. I have also noticed that the transmission will slip out of park to neutral at times, when I push the button to Park, then rolls forward. I’ve been to Kunes Country Honda numerous times, of which they say there is no fix. I currently have an appointment for 7/12/22 that I made last week before it actually popped so bad, because it was sluggish, and before that, I could tell it was a huge issue because now it is sluggish every time I start my vehicle. My understanding is that Honda will only replace this unit with the same, defective unit. This is an unacceptable alternative. I still have an extended warranty on my car for 9,000 miles. I am currently thinking its the module now.
Turned on the car back in May '22 and all my lights came on my dashboard for ACC, Collision, Lane Departure, Lane Keeping Assistant, Brake Assistance. I have taken it to two dealers and the problem seems to be the multi-function camera in the windshield has failed. Said it is safe to drive still without it, but now the Cruise Control isn't even available with this malfunction. Two months later my Transmission Problem light comes on. I take it in again and they say the multi-function camera being broken is triggering this warning light to come on. So I don't know if my transmission actually has a problem or if the multi function camera is breaking everything electrical in my car. Transmission drives funny but I can't prove anything because of the camera. If the car has been in the sun for a period of time the lights will not show up and you can use cruise control again. Camera is on backorder so don't know when it will come in, and don't even know if this will fix the whole problem.
