DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY, THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE LEFT FRONT UPPER CONTROL ARM WAS LOOSE, AND WORE A HOLE THROUGH THE FRAME WHERE IT CONNECTED. ALSO, THE DEALER DETERMINED THE UPPER CONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND ATTACHED WITH WASHERS TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE FRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
SPEEDOMETER READING TOO FAST ALL THE TIME, DEALER DIAGNOSED AS BAD SPEEDO STEPPER MOTOR. ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR $700.00. RESEARCHED AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS OF SAME PROBLEM. SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD BE RESOLVED WITH MANUFACTURE RECALL. *NM
2003 HUMMER WITH AN OIL LEAK. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE OIL LEAK WAS MINOR AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP. HE WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE TRANSFER CASE WAS WORN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN AND THE DRIVESHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*KB THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE LENGTH OF THE PROPELLER SHAFT THAT HAD BEEN INSTALLED AT THE TIME OF MANUFACTURING WAS TOO SHORT TO ALLOW SUFFICIENT LUBRICATION OF THE REAR OUTPUT SHAFT BUSHING IN THE TRANSFER CASE. *JB
DEALERSHIP MOVED WITHOUT NOTICE, NO DEALER FOR AN HOUR. TIRE EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING WHEEL SEPERATED FROM VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING WHILE CAR WAS IN OPERATION UNDER HEAVY RAIN AT ALL SPEED SETTINGS. I GOT RID OF THE VEHICLE AS IT SCARED ME WHEN THE INCIDENT HAD OCCURRED WITH MY CHILDREN WITH ME. DON'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE WIPERS.*NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HUMMER H2. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HEARD AN UNFAMILIAR NOISE. A MONTH LATER, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V456000 (VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR), IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE REPAIRS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CONTINUED TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE NEVER LEFT THE DEALER LOT AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT NEEDED A WIPER TRANSMISSION. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE RECALL THAT WAS RELATED TO HER VEHICLE PERTAINED TO THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR MODULE; THEREFORE, THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE WIPER TRANSMISSION BEING REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 73,434.
2003 H2 HUMMER, TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING INTO THE COOLANT SYSTEM THAT REQUIRES REMOVAL OF ALL HOSES AND RADIATOR FLUSHING AND CLEANING AND POSSIBLY REMOVING THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE OF CONTAMINATION. EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE AND I BELIEVE TO BE A DEFECT IN WORKMANSHIP. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE FORCE OF THE BUMPS ARE FELT WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SAGS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DUE TO THE TORSION BAR LOSING IT'S SPRING. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE TORSION BAR BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED.
ENGINE OVERHEATING WITH H2 HUMMER, STRANDED ON ROADSIDE 100+ TEMP. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER MOTOR FAILED. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED THE WIPERS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY, NOW SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THEY ONLY WORK A FEW SECONDS AT A TIME. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 02V283000, REGARDING THE WINDSHIELD WIPER/ WASHER: MOTOR. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. I PULLED INTO MY OFFICE PARKING LOT ON THE MORNING OF 2-20-2006. THERE WAS SNOW ON THE GROUND. I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT, AND WITH A LITTLE THROTTLE, SPUN AROUND INTO MY PARKING PLACE. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT BY DOING THAT LITTLE MANEUVER, YOU CAN, AND I DID, SHEAR OFF THE SHAFT OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP. DISABLING THE POWER ASSIST TO THE STEERING AS WELL AS TO THE BRAKES! RENDERING THE TRUCK ALL BUT UNDRIVEABLE. THIS IS ALSO SITED IN A STORY BY WNBC ABOUT A LADY THAT LIVES IN THE POCONO'S WHO ENCOUNTERED THE SAME SITUATION IN HER H2 ONA SNOW COVERED ROAD. *JB
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 64 EAST MILE MARKER 261... DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN 03 HUMMER H2 AND WAS CUT OFF. MY SPEED WAS 70, THEIR SPEED WAS 55. SLAMMED ON BRAKES AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE AROUND PERSON THAT CUT ME OFF. WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES WENT INTO A SKID (I THINK I LOST MY STEERING ON THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE, STILL SKID MARKS ON ROAD). HELD THE SKID FOR 600 FEET(?) AT WHICH POINT I LOST CONTROL. DROVE INTO DITCH AND ATTEMPTED TO DO A 180 AND BACK INTO THE WOODS BECAUSE I WAS GOING UP A HILL AND THE RAVINE ON EITHER SIDE WAS GETTING VERY DEEP AND THERE WAS A BRIDGE COMING UP. I FLIPPED ONCE BUT KNOCKED BOTH FRONT TIRES OFF. I DRIVE A LOT(150 MILES A DAY ON AVERAGE) AND HAVE NEVER HAD A WRECK. THIS WAS RIDICULOUS, I FEEL LIKE I CLEARLY LOST MY STEERING ON MY FRONT RIGHT(PASSENGER SIDE) AND THE MORE I THINK ABOUT IT THE MORE I FEEL LIKE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED. WELL THE TRUCKS TOTALED SO NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX IT... ON THE UP HAND I WALKED AWAY FROM A PRETTY BAD ACCIDENT WITH ONLY ACHES A AND PAINS. *JB
I BOUGHT A 2003 HUMMER H2 BRAND NEW. SINCE THE DAY I GOT IT HAD MANY PROBLEMS, BOTH ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL. THE STEERING IS VERY HARD AND THE BREAKING IS INEFFECTIVE AT TIMES. I SHOWED THEM A COPY OF THE BULLETIN ON THIS WEBSITE. THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY PROBLEMS. THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTS. MANY ELECTRICAL ISSUES SEAT MEMORY PROBLEMS, MIRROR DON'T WORK..ETC. EVENTUALLY THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES FIXED. ROOF LEAKING WATER FROM THE READING LIGHT ON TWO OCCASIONS ONCE BECAUSE OF SUNROOF ISSUE AND THE SECOND TIME BECAUSE OF THE OUTSIDE ROOF LIGHT. NOW MOST RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE "CHECK ENGINE OIL" LIGHT COMES ON EVERY 5 TO 6 WEEKS AND WAY BEFORE AN OIL CHANGE IS DUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 TIMES SO FAR. EVERYTIME THE ENGINE IS MISSING OIL. THE DEALER SAYS THAT HUMMER ALLOWS THE ENGINE TO BURN ONE QUART OF OIL FOR EVERY 100 GALS OF FUEL. I SAID WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WHEN THAT LIGHT COMES ON. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID PULL OFF THE ROAD AND CHECK THE OIL. I SAID WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO IF THE OIL IS LOW. HE SAID ADD OIL TO THE ENGINE. I SAID SO I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH A COUPLE OF QUARTS OF OIL IN THE BACK ALL THE TIME? THE LIGHT COMES ON EVERY 5 TO 6 WEEKS. I SAID HOW MANY HUMMERS HAVE YOU SOLD? HE SAID MANY. I SAID HOW MANY YOU KNOW OF DO THAT? HE SAID NONE. I SAID IF NONE DO THAT, WHY DOES MINE DO IT? AND IF THIS NORMAL WHY NONE OF THE OTHERS DO IT? THE DEALER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY LEAK OF OIL OR ANY BURNING OF OIL BY THE ENGINE!!!!!!! *NM
DT: THE CONSUMER' S VEHICLE WAS HIT ON THE PASSENGER'S AND DRIVER'S SIDES ON THE FRONT AND IN THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE. UPON IMPACT, FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ON/OFF SWITCH FOR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG, BUT, HE WAS UNSURE IF IT WAS TURNED ON. THE DOCTOR TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT IF THE AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED HE WOULD NOT HAVE SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES. THE CONSUMER WAS THE ONLY ONE IN HIS VEHICLE. THE OTHER VEHICLE INVOLVED RAN A RED LIGHT. THE CONSUMER STATE THAT AFTER HE CAME THROUGH HE REMEMBERED TRYING TO USE THE ONSTAR AND THE RED BUTTON DID NOT WORK. HE WAS BASICALLY THERE PHYSICALLY, BUT NOT MENTALLY. ALSO, HE SAID THAT INJURES FROM THE ACCIDENT MADE HIM UNABLE TO MOVE AT TIMES. THE POLICE REPORT STATED THAT THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS GOING 35 MPH. THE CONSUMER FELT THAT THE OTHER VEHICLE HAD TO BE GOING AT LEAST 50 MPH. *AK
2003 H2 HUMMER WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN GREEN, PROCEEDED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. SUDDENLY, THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL CAVED IN AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOCK UP. THE AXLE WAS CUT OFF AND RIGHT FRONT OF VEHICLE WAS RESTING ON THE CHASSIS. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT A LOCAL HUMMER DEALERSHIP FOR EVALUATION. *JB
WHILE TURNING RIGHT AT 30 MPH THE FRONT END DROPPED DOWN. THIS CAUSED CONSUMER'S VEHICLE TO HIT A PARKED VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE AND MAKE A THUMPING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE STEERING KNUCKLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL COLLAPSED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT 10 MPH. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE STEERING KNUCKLE BROKE.*AK *TC *JB
A SQUEAKING SOUND FROM THE FRONT, LEFT WHEEL ARE ON MY HUMMER H2 LED ME TO VISIT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. AFTER THE FIRST 2 VISITS, THE SQUEAK WAS STILL PRESENT. ON THE THIRD VISIT THEY REPLACED THE HUB ASSEMBLY. *AK
THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF AND THE VEHICLE PULLED RIGHT INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE VEHICLE IS HAVING REPAIRS DONE RIGHT NOW.*AK

THE RIGHT WHEEL COLLAPSED INWARD WHILE DRIVING OUT OF THE GARAGE. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND THE CAUSE WAS STILL UNDETERMINED.*AK
TWO CABLE STRAPS HOLDING HOOD ON 2003 HUMMER H2 BROKE
TWO RODS</A> BROKE WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. CONSUMER IS CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A SESSION WITH ARBITRATION. *AK THE CONSUMER IS MEETING WITH OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TC
DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2003 HUMMER H2. THE HOOD CABLE ON THE H2 WAS SURROUNDED BY A RUBBER SLEEVE FOR THE HOOD RELEASE. OVER A PERIOD OF TIME THE CABLE DETERIORATED AND IT CAUSED THE HOOD TO FALL, RESULTING IN INJURY TO THE CONTACT. WHEN THE HOOD WAS IN THE LOCK POSITION THE RUBBER HOSES AROUND THE SUPPORT CABLES HELD WATER IN THE PROCESS AND CAUSED THE CABLE TO RUST. THIS OCCURRED ON BOTH OF THE HOOD CABLES. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CABLE, AND THEY DID NOT PUT THE RUBBER HOSE ON THE CABLE. THEY REPLACED IT WITH A DIFFERENT TYPE OF CABLE. THE CONTACT REPORTED THIS TO GM MANUFACTURER. THEY OFFERED HIM A $200 SETTLEMENT FOR HIS INJURY. THIS OCCURRED ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2004.*AK *JB
I BOUGHT A HUMMER H2 IN APRIL 2004. I WENT OFF ROAD THE NEXT WEEKEND AND WAS GOING ABOUT 5 MILES AN HOUR UP A MOUNTAIN AND LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. WE FOUND OUT THE TIE ROD BROKE. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. I WENT TO ABRITRATION AND WON MY CASE. THIS LAST WEEKEND I WAS CLIMBING A HILL LESS THAN 5 MILES AN HOUR AND THE SAME TIE ROD BROKE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF THAT WHEEL. I TALKED TO A SALES MAN AT THE HUMMER DEALER I BOUGHT MY TRUCK FROM AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE BROKE A TIE ROD AT ONE OF THE HUMMER TEST CENTERS. WHEN I PICKED MY TRUCK UP FROM THE DEALER THE FIRST TIME MY TIE ROD BROKE I SAW ANOTHER HUMMER H2 BEING BROUGHT IN FOR A BROKEN TIE ROD. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE REPAIR TECH AND HE TOLD ME HE COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW SMALL THE TIE RODS ARE. I FEEL VERY LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO TELL YOU THESE STORIES. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO SEE PEOPLE DIE FROM THIS DEFECTIVE TIE ROD. I KNOW GM DOES NOT WANT TO RECALL THIS PART BUT IT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED. CONSUMER WAS GOING 70 MPH AND THE TWO FRONT TIRES LOCKED, WHILE THE TWO BACK TIRES KEPT MOVING. VEHICLE THEN CONTINUED TO SKIP. THE DRIVESHAFT WAS REPLACED. *AK FOR THE PAST 8 MONTH THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE THAN AT THE CONSUMER'S HOME. THE VEHICLE HAS NEEDED A NEW ALTERNATOR, TRANSMISSION, BATTERY,IGNITION AND DRIVE SHAFT. THE ROOF LEAKED AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE ONE OF THE SIDE WINDOWS. *BF *NM
LIFTED VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO HAVE A LEAKING UPPER DRIVER'S SIDE CV BOOT REPLACED. WHEN THE AXLE WAS REMOVED, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE AXLE HAD BEEN DESTOYED AND THE PIECES PUNCTURED THE CV BOOT INTERNALLY CAUSING THE LEAK. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IN A LITTLE OVER 600 MILES THAT THIS BOOT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN THE CV BOOT WAS LAST REPLACED, THERE WAS NO NOTICABLE DAMAGE TO THE AXLE. WAS INFORMED BY A GM TECH TODAY THAT THE DAMAGE MAY HAVE OCCURED WHEN THE AXLE WAS REINSTALLED. NOW I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE GM FACTORY REP HAS DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN LIFTED AND DEALERSHIP ATTRIBUTES THE DAMAGE TO THE LIFT AND THE ANGLE OF THE AXLES. VEHICLE IS NOT USED OFF-ROAD AND 4X4 OPTION IS NOT USED. OTHER H2'S ON WWW.H2SOURCE.COM HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS BUT THIS WAS DUE TO OFF-ROAD USAGE. *MR
WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE DRIVER'S TIE ROD BROKE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE TIE ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB

VEHICLE STALLED WHEN TRYING TO START. VEHICLE STALLED WHEN WE TRIED TO ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN WE TRIED TO PASS ANOTHER CAR.*AK DEALER REPLACED A SWITCH IN THE IGNITION AND SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM.
I OWN A 2003 HUMMER H2. THIS IS THE SECOND WINTER WITH THIS CAR AND THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED EVERYTIME I DRIVE IN SNOW. I CLEANED THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD INCLUDING SNOW AND ICE UNDER THE WIPERS, I WARM UP THE CAR PROPERLY, I TURN THE DEFROST ON (LAST NIGHT IT WAS SET AT 80 DEGREES)/ WITHIN A FEW MILES THE WIPERS ARE INEFFECTIVE BECAUSE A LAYER OF ICE AND SNOW HAS ACCUMULATED BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND THE WIPER BLADES. VISIBILITY---ZERO. *LA
VEHICLE DIED 4-5 BLOCKS AWAY FROM DEALERSHIP THE DAY OF PURCHASE. (NAR) *PH PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE POWER TRAIN TRANSMISSION AND BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED. *CB
MY RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, INNER BACKING AND AXLE CAME OFF. THE LOWER FLANGE BROKE AWAY FROM THE LOWER A-ARM. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A PAVED ROAD NEAR MY HOUSE. THE A-ARM HIT THE GROUND AND SPUN THE H2 OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A TREE. THE RIGHT WHEEL'S BRAKE BACKING PLATE AND AXLE CAME OFF ALL IN ONE PIECE. EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE FLANGE, THE REMAINDER OF EACH FRONT WHEEL IS HELD IN PLACE BY ONLY BALL JOINTS. THE UPPER FLANGE IS ATTACHED TO A BALL JOINT. THE LOWER FLANGE IS A MAJOR STRUCTURAL COMPONENT OF THE FRONT END. THERE WAS NO IMPACT TO ANY OF THE PARTS OF THE RIGHT WHEEL ASSEMBLY OR AXLE EVEN AFTER I WAS THROWN OFF THE ROAD. OBVIOUSLY THE BRAKE LINE AND ABS CIRCUIT WAS SEVERED IMMEDIATELY. I HAD NO BRAKES AND LITTLE OTHER CONTROL. AFTER THE H2 HIT THE TREE, IT CAME TO A STOP. THE BOTTOM OF THE TREE STAYED STATIONARY, BUT THE TOP OF THE TREE BROKE OFF AND CAME DOWN (HARD) ON THE RIGHT WINDSHIELD POST, BENDING THE POST AND SHATTERING THE WINDSHIELD. WITH NO FRONT WHEEL, THE H2 DOES NOT HAVE ANY MOBILITY EXCEPT FOR SKIDDING AND SLIDING. PASSENGER SEAT BELT LOCKS WHILE DRIVING FOR NO RESON.JERKS PASS. BACK INTO SEATBACK.DOES NOT DO THIS ALL THE TIME,CAUSES WHIPLASH.*AK
WINDSHIELD WIPER / WASHER FAILS DURING OPERATION, 2003 HUMMER H2, THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT HUMMER SAYS THAT RECALL DID NOT EFFECT MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE AND IT IS A COINCIDENCE THAT I HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM THAT A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE, YEAR, MODEL, AND MAKE WAS FOR. *NM
ANY TIME IT RAINS THE VEHICLE FILLS UP WITH WATER. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE SUN ROOF, THE GASKET IN THE DRIVERS DOOR, AND THE CARGO HATCH. THE ELECTRIC DRIVERS SEAT MOVES UP AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF CAUSING THE DRIVER TO BE CRUSHED AGAINST THE DASH BOARD. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE HOOD IS TOO HEAVY AND THAT THERE IS NO SUPPORT BAR TO HOLD IT UP. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER SEVEN TIMES SINCE THE CONSUMER PURCHASED IT. *MR
I AM A RETIRED U.S ARMY TRANSPORATION OFFICER, WITH A DEGREE IN TRANSPORTATION FROM INDIANA UNIVERSITY. I'M ALSO A CURRENT AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SPECIALIST IN RENO NEVADA. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS (AT LEAST 5) DURING THE PAST 2 MONTHS I HAVE FOLLOWED A POV IN THE HOURS OF DARKNESS WITHOUT ANY TAILIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ON, BUT THE DRIVER WAS UNAWARE OF THE FACT THAT THEIR COMPLETE LIGHTING SYSTEM WAS NOT ON. THE REASON FOR THIS OVERSIGHT WAS THE FACT THAT THE AUTOMATIC DAYTIME HEADLIGHTS WERE ON, AND THE DRIVER THOUGHT THEY HAD FULL VEHICLE LIGHTING. I ADDITIONALLY EXPERIENCED THIS WHEN I PURCHASED MY NEW CAR IN MID DECEMBER, WHEN ONCE AT NIGHT I BEGAN TO DRIVE WITH MY HEADLIGHTS ON, BUT LUCKILY SOON NOTED THAT THE REST OF MY LIGHTING WAS NOT ACTIVATED. THE POINT OF THIS ADVISORY TO YOU IS THAT I BELIEVE THAT MANY TERRIBLE REAR END TYPE ACCIDENTS LIE AHEAD OR MAY HAVE ALREADY OCCURRED, DUE TO THIS POSSIBLE OVERSIGHT OF DRIVERS, AND IT IS NOT REALLY OF THEIR OWN FAULT. SOLUTION IS TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BY ADVISING ALL AUTO MAKERS TO HAVE A LIGHT SENSOR INSTALLED THAT WILL NOT ALLOW THE DAYLIGHT HEADLIGHTS TO AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATE PAST DUSK. ADDITIONALLY SEND OUT A NATION WIDE AWARENESS NOTICE TO ALL DRIVERS TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH DAYLIGHT SAFETY HEADLIGHTS.
WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED MOVING FORWARD. THE CONSUMER FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE BUT VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. *BF AS A RESULT THE CONSUMER REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIS DAMAGING IT'S TRUNK. *NM
