DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE VEHICLE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE DRIVER FRONT AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE AIR BAG DEFLATED SO FAST IT CAUSED THE DRIVER TO HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AT THE SCENE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE TOTALED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT ALERTED. UPDATED 7/18/2006 - *NM
ON A 2002 HYUNDAI, THE THROTTLE SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED IN 2004. THIS CAUSES THE ENGINE TO REV TO VERY HIGH LEVELS (AS HIGH AS 4-5000 RPM) AND THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD; BRAKING BARELY SEEMS TO HOLD IT BACK. IT IS LIKE A CAR POSSESSED. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, MY HUSBAND WAS BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE, AND THE CAR SHOT OUT OF THE GARAGE, INTO THE ALLEY, AND HE NEARLY HIT THE GARAGE BEHIND US. THE THROTTLE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. IN EARLY 2006, IT FAILED AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND THE CAR LEAPT FORWARD; I HAD TO REPEATEDLY TAP THE BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING THE PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME. WITHOUT USING THE BRAKE OR THE GAS, THE CAR WOULD MOVE AT 20 MPH. IT HAPPENED AGAIN THE FOLLOWING MORNING WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. THE ENGINE REVVED VERY HIGH WITHOUT ME EVER TOUCHING THE GAS. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR HAS JUST BEEN STARTED AND WHEN IT HAS BEEN RUNNING. PUTTING THE CAR INTO PARK AND TAPPING THE GAS WILL OFTEN CAUSE THE RPMS TO GO DOWN. AFTER THE 2002 INCIDENT, THE SERVICE CENTER CASUALLY MENTIONED THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER HYUNDAIS. DURING THE MOST RECENT REPAIR, I MADE A POINT OF MENTIONING THIS WAS THE 2ND TIME THIS MALFUNCTION HAD OCCURRED; THE MECHANIC DIDN'T EXPRESS ANY FEELINGS OR IMPRESSIONS ABOUT THIS. THE CAR IS STILL COVERED, FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2006, UNDER A BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY, SO THIS HAS BEEN REPAIRED TWICE BY THE DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, THIS IS AN ALARMING MALFUNCTION THAT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, AND IT SEEMS TO BE HABITUAL FOR THIS CAR -- EVERY 2 YEARS-- AND PERHAPS FOR OTHERS TOO. IT'S MADE ME NERVOUS ABOUT OWNING THE CAR MUCH LONGER. *NM
ON BOTH 9/27/2004 AND 1/13/2006 THE REAR BRAKE CYLINDERS AND SHOES HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF LEAKING FROM THE CYLINDER. ON THE SECOND OCCASION, MECHANICS AT DOUG'S LYNNWOOD MAZDA/HYUNDAI DID NOT NOTICE THE PROBLEM ON THE ORIGINAL VISIT (12/2/2005), AND I HAD TO BRING IT TO THEIR ATTENTION IN ORDER TO GET IT FIXED. *JB
WITH RIGHT HAND, LIFTED HANDLE OF DRIVER SIDE DOOR , HANDLE SNAPPED AT TOP, LEFT TOP HALF STILL ATTACHED, CAN'T OPEN DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR REPAIR, WAITING FOR REPAIR APPOINTMENT CONFIRMATION. *NM
ONGOING ROUGH IDLE, POOR ACCELERATION. NOT SURE IF THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSING PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, BUT THE DEALER, ON THREE OCCASIONS IS UNABLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *JB
WHILE DRIVING BRAKE PAD FELL OFF. THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKED OUT. VEHICLE HAD VERY LOW MILEAGE ON IT.*AK
ON COLD STARTUP CAR STAMMERS,HESITATES AND REVS (SOMETIMES SHAKES).LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE RUNS LOUD,INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT ACCELERATE.CAR IS 3 YEARS OLD,ONLY HAS 11000 MILES,AND HAS BEEN LEFT WITH DEALER 3 TIMES REGARDING THIS.FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR REPLACED AND COMPUTER RESET.SERVICE DEPARTMENT STILL UNABLE TO RESOLVE.
I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH, DRIFTED SLIGHTLY ON A CURVE, CORRECTED LEFT WENT RIGHT INSTEAD ON A SANDY DECLINE BRAKED AND FLIPPED TWICE. NEITHER OF THE TWO AIRBAGS WENT OFF. THE CAR IS TOTAL LOSS. *JB
MY DAUGHTER HIT A CAR AT ABOUT 25 - 30 MPH AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
DOME LIGHT AND THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR LIGHT CONTINUED TO STAY ON. THE PART WAS REPLACED EIGHT TIMES. *AK
VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT HIGH RPMS WHEN STARTING OR 10 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
RANDOM IDLE ACCELERATION (2000=4000RPMS WHEN SHOULD BE IDLING) LEADING TO SURGING OF CAR. STARTED A FEW MONTHS AGO WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. DEALER REPLACED TRANSMISSION SENSOR, PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN SOLVED. I HAVE HAD CAR CHECKED OUT AT DEALERSHIP, BUT THE PROBLEM IS RANDOM, AND THEY HAVE NOT DUPLICATED IT. HAS BEEN HAPPEINING RANDOMLY FOR LAST FEW MONTHS, AT LEAST A COUPLE TIMES EVERY TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN TO WORK--23 MILES ONE WAY. MUST PUSH THE BREAK AS HARD AS POSSIBLE TO KEEP CAR FROM LUNGING WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS.*AK
WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE REAR BRAKES LOCKED. THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE REAR BRAKE DRUMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
ENGINE LIFTERS TAP LOUDLY FOR ANYWHERE FOR 2 MINS OR 20 MILES DEPENDING ON HOW LONG THE CAR SET. THE LIFTERS HAD BEEN REPLACED ONCE. TAKEN TO DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT THEY SAYS ITS FINE BUT A FRIEND OF MINE THAT ALSO WORKS THERE SAYS THEY ARE BOARDER LINE AND WILL NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF SOON. DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE.*AK
INTERMITTENTLY TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT/DRIVE IN REVERSE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN AND STALLING ON HIGHWAYS. CAUSE UNKNOWN. TUNE UP AND ALL OTHER ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE WITH NO IMPROVEMENT IN CONDITION.*AK
WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, ANOTHER VEHICLE REAR ENDED THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE TO HIT A GUARD RAIL. UPON IMPACT, THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS INJURED. *JB
2002 HYANDAI ACCENT--TRANSMISSION LEAP AT IDLE--FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE LEARCH FORWARD AND RMP INCREASE INCLUDING BUCKING AND JERK FORWARD. DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE CAR 4 TIMES, FIRST TIME SAID NOTHING WRONG, SECOND TIME CHANGED THE INTERNAL SOLENOID BUT PROBLEM CONTINUED, THIRD TIME THEY CHARGED US $280. BUCKS TO DRAIN THE TRANSMISSION AND TUNE UP CAR SAID THAT WOULD FIX IT. IT DIDN'T WE ARE STILL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, 4TH TIME DEALERSHIP AGAIN TOLD US NOTHING COULD BE DETECTED AFTER THREE DAYS OF DRIVING IT. WE ARE AT THE END OF OUR ROPE. THIS WAS PURCHASED AS TEEN DAUGHTERS FIRST CAR TO GO TO COLLEGE IN AND IT IS NOT SAFE. WHAT ELSE SHOULD WE DO BUT TRY TO CONTACT A LAWER. ANYONE HAVE SUGGESTIONS OR GOOD LAWERS?*AK
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 54,000 MILES, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO HIGH GEAR. *AK
AFTER REAR ENDING ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 30 MPH FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE LUGS:NUTS FAILED ON THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. THE WHEEL FLEW OFF THE VEHICLE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE.*AK
ABOUT: 2002 HYUNDAI ACCENT PROBLEM HAPPENS SHORT TIME AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR HAS A SUDDEN LARGE LOSS OF POWER, OVERDRIVE CUTS OUT. PROBLEM MAY PERSIST FOR A DAY OR TWO THEN GO AWAY AND COME BACK SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE GOING AWAY. SITUATION: MY WIFE WAS CROSSING A STREET AND COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SHE JUST BARLEY ESCAPED. THIS HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES IN 14,000 MILES OF DRIVING. IT NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE GAS TANK IS FILLED. DEALER INDICATES THAT THIS IS ON PURPOSE WHEN THE GAS CAP IS NOT SECURED PROPERLY. HYUNDAI PUTS DRIVER'S LIVES AT STAKE ON PURPOSE!*AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, SUDDENLY THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THIS OCCURRED THE VEHICLE JERK FORWARD AND THE MOTOR LOCKED UP. THIS ALMOST RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE FLIPPING OVER. THE CLUTCH HAD BLOWN UP, WHICH CAUSED THE MOTOR TO LOCK UP. THE CAUSE OF THE CLUTCH BLOWING UP IS UNDETERMINED. *NM
GOING DOWN A HILL, MY NIECE SUDDENLY COULD NOT STEER HER VEHICLE, RESULTING IN 3 TEENAGE DEATHS, AND 3 SERIOUS INJURIES. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT AXLE HAD A CLEAN BREAK IN IT.THE DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS ALSO MANGLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED.
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH , THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE DRIVER CHANGED THE TIRE AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *AK *JB
IGNITION SWITCH FAILED INTERMITTENTLY, CAUSING CONSUMER TO TRY TO START THE IGNITION NUMEROUS TIMES. DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED. *AK
THE MOTOR OVER-ACCELERATES EVEN WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS NOT PRESSED. THIS ONCE CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD FROM A STOPPED POSITION WITHOUT MY PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT. * CB
DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED ON NOVEMBER 21, 2003 AT 46,856 MILES THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED; NOW THE SECOND TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT HARD FROM LOW GEAR TO THE HIGH GEAR. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH, IT TAKES LONGER TO SHIFT FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. THERE IS A VIBRATION WHEN SHIFTING OCCURS. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALERSHIP HAVE BEEN CONTACTED AND DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. *JB
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AND CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE TRAPPED THE DRIVER INSIDE, BURNING HIM TO DEATH. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NLM
THE ENGINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AT 22,000 MILES. THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NLM A NEW ENGINE WAS INSTALLED. AFTERWARDS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AS A RESULT, THE RELAY SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. CD, REAR WINDOW AND DIFFERENTIAL HAD TO BE REPLACED. *PH
THE BRAKE LINE ERUPTED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH FRONT ROTORS AND THE BRAKE PADS WITHIN THE FIRST 14K MILES AND REFUSED TO CHECK AND LUBRICATE BOTH FRONT CALIPER SLIDES WHICH CAUSED THE PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE PAD TO COMPLETELY WEAR DOWN THE METAL. THE PASSENGER SIDE CALIPER BRACKET RUSTED. THERE WAS ALSO AN ENGINE NOISE. *SC *JB
PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE EQUIPMENT ON 2002 HYUNDAI ACCENT. *MR THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BRAKE ROTOR, BRAKE HOSE AND PADS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE FLUID WAS NOT RETURNING TO THE MASTER CYLINDER CAUSING THE PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE PADS WEAR OUT. THERE WAS A SHIMMY FELT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL, THE TECH FOUND BOTH FRONT BRAKE ROTORS DISC WARPED, THE TRANSMISSION HAD A DELAY SHIFTING, THE WHEELS WERE OUT OF BALANCE, THE FRONT CALIPERS HAD FROZEN IN THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, THE PADS STUCK IN THE HOLDERS DUE TO THE RUST BUILD UP AND NOISE COULD BE HEARD AND WAS TRACED TO THE PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE HOSE AND PADS. *SC *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HYUNDAI ACCENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF ON THE VEHICLE AND SHE HAD TO PURCHASE NEW TIRES. SHE ALSO SMELLED BURNING WIRES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,999 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
WHILE BACKING OUT IN REVERSE, THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THERE WAS NO INCIDENT TO REPORT. *AK THE DEALER REPLACED THE SENSOR ASSEMBLY. WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES WHICH ALMOST CAUSED HER TO HIT HER FATHER. WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO REV, IT WAS IN PARK, THEN THE CONSUMER TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. *SCC *JB
DRIVER'S SEAT BELTS IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD VEHICLE WILL NOT GO TO FULL SPEED UNLESS THE CONSUMER PLACED THE ACCERLATOR PEDAL TOTALLY DOWN ON THE FLOOR. DEALER HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK
I WAS JUST IN AN ACCIDENT THREE DAYS AGO AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. I WAS MOVING AT A SPEED TO ACTIVATE BALM (35-45 MPH). MY NECK IS NOW IN ALOT OF PAIN AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT. IT WAS SUCH A HARD HIT MY BACK WHEELS CAME OFF THE GROUND! IT WAS A T BONE HIT, BUT IHIT SQUARE WITH DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL, AND WITH STOPPING TIME. I BELIEVE THAT MY NECK WOULD HAVE BEEN SUPPORTED IF THE AIR BAGS WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED.*AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT 40-50 MPH IT COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND CONSUMER SUSTAINED UNJURIES.*AK *TS
HORN HAS BROKEN 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 7 MONTHS. CLUTCH WENT AT 11,000 MILES. WINDSHIELD WIPERS BROKE AT 11,000 MILES. REAR BRAKES NEED TO BE TAKEN APART AND CLEANED BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE DIRT/ROAD MATERIAL GETTING INTO BRAKES. GAS MILEAGE POOR SINCE 9,000 MILES. *AK
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC AT 50 MPH CONSUMER DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR WHICH BECAME STUCK, AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. ENGINE REVVED, BUT THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. VEHICLE WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED ON THREE OCCASIONS. THIS VEHICLE HAD THREE TRANSMISSIONS REPLACED SINCE 7-2-2003.*AK
SUDDEN POWER SURGES (RPM UP TO 3000) WHEN PUTTING IN PARK. OCCASIONAL SURGES WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE AT NORMAL CITY SPEEDS (25-35 MPH). SOMETIMES ENGINE STARTS AND THEN CUTS OFF AFTER HAVING SAT FOR SEVERAL HOURS. SECOND START-UP RUNS FINE.*AK WHEN BRAKING, ENGINE SOMETIMES SURGES AND REQUIRES HEAVY PRESSURE TO NOT COLLIDE WITH CAR IN FRONT. VEHICLE CAN TAKE OFF ON ITS OWN IF I JUST REMOVE FOOT FROM BRAKE. WHEN BROUGHT LAST TO DEALER, THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEM.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *NLM
CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THE SPINDLES WERE BROKEN, THE BRAKE LINE FAILED AND THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK, BUT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE WHERE THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM. *JB *TS
TRANSMISSION CLUNK FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, ALSO WHEN MAKING A TURN DOWN A SMALL HILL WILL SLIP AND BUCK. DEALER REPLACED INTERNAL SOLENOID 3 WEEKS AGO TO RESOLVE, SEEMED TO WORK, HOWEVER PROBLEM IS BACK. WILL BE TAKING BACK TO DEALER AS SOON AS TIME PERMITS. *JB
THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS DUE TO AN EASY RELEASE OF THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER. *TT *JB
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING, DEBRIS SUCH AS LEAVES AND SALT FROM THE ROADS COME THROUGH VEHICLE'S VENTS INTO CABIN. THIS CAUSES OBSTRUCTION OF CONSUMER'S VIEW OF THE ROADWAY AND A DISTRACTION. TS
WHILE DRIVING IN THE SNOW, THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID DIN NOT SPRAY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW AND CAUSED THE DRIVER TO HAVE POOR VISIBILITY. *AK THERE WAS NO VISIBLE KINK IN THE HOSE LEADING TO THE DRIVER'S SPRAYER. ONCE THE TEMPERATURE HAD GONE ABOVE FREEZING, BOTH THE SPRAYERS WOULD WORK. *SCC *JB
WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED THEY DIDN'T HOLD, RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT.*AK

VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR SERVICE, TRANS. SLIPS, FREE WHEELS, BUCKS, BRAKES TWICE HAVE NOT WORKED UNTIL MINUTES AFTER PEDAL PRESSED TO FLOOR, THEN POP WHEN ACCELERATING, DEALER UNABLE TO REPRODUCE?? SO THEY WON'T FIX/INVESTIGATE PROBLEMS, THEY HAVE, HOWEVER, REPLACED PARTS FOR MANUAL WINDOWS THAT WERE FALLING DOWN. NLM
