ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH POWER LOCKS. THE VEHICLE OVERALL IS UNSAFE DUE TO THE PROGRESSIVE MOTOR, ELECTRICAL, AND COMPLEX ISSUES EFFECTING THE BASIC USAGE OF MY CAR.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF WHILE IN MOTION..
ALL 4 BRAKES STARTED TO RANDOMLY LOCK UP. I WAS DRIVING AND HAD TO RUN IT ALMOST A 1/2 MILE FOR A SHOULDER TO PULL OVER AT. UPON STOPPING, THE BRAKES WERE SMOKING ALL AROUND THE CAR AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE ACTUALLY CAUGHT FLAME. I'M GUESSING BRAKE BOOSTER IS THE CAUSE. ALSO FRONT CONTROL ARMS ARE ALMOST RUSTED THROUGH. THE CARS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND HAS AROUND 185,000 MILES ON IT. HAS VALVE COVER LEAK INTO SPARK PLUG PORT ON CYLINDER 3 AND HAS A VERY WEAK CLUTCH THAT SOMETIMES SLIPS.
TAKATA RECALL. THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED ON DASH. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT YET THE LIGHT IS ON. NOT SURE IF AIRBAGS WILL WORK IF AN ACCIDENT EVER DOES OCCUR. CANNOT HAVE FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE BECAUSE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN LIGHT CAME ON. UNKNOWN WHY THIS FAILURE OCCURED.
ALL FOUR WINDOWS STOPPED FUNCTIONING AT ONCE. RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS EXTREMELY COMMON. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM IN CASE WINDOWS ARE NEEDED TO ESCAPE FROM VEHICLE DUE TO ACCIDENT. THE TEMPERATURE OF VEHICLE CAN ALSO EXCEED SAFE DEGREE DUE TO WINDOWS NOT OPENING. NO WARNING WAS GIVEN BEFORE ALL WINDOWS CEASED TO FUNCTION. STARTED VEHICLE AND WINDOWS WOULD NOT WORK FROM ANY CONTROL. HAD TO TAKE MOTHER TO DOCTOR FOR HEAT EXHAUSTION FROM EXCESSIVE TEMPERATURES BUILDING UP IN CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA EQUIPPED WITH DEXTERO TOURING DTR1 TIRES, SIZE I95/60R/15 88H (NA). WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT DRIVER, FRONT PASSENGER, AND REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRES HAD CRACKS ON THE LOWER SIDEWALLS. THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS TAKEN TO WALMART FOR REPLACEMENT. THE OTHER TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A TIRE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,285. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 18 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD. THE CONTACT STATED UPON INSPECTION THEY NOTICED THE CONTROL ARM HAD DETACHED FROM THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE. FREEHOLD HYUNDAI LOCATED AT 4065 ROUTE 9 NORTH, FREEHOLD, NJ, WHERE THEY REFUSED TO PERFORM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V125000 (SUSPENSION) DUE TO HAVING TO WAIT FOR APPROVAL FOR THE RECALL REPAIR FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE MADE A RUMBLING NOISE AND JERKED TO THE RIGHT WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING THE LOWER CONTROL ARM REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, ALL FOUR WINDOWS FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUSE, WIRING, AND DOOR SWITCH FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, THE BRAKES FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES TO ENSURE THAT THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO SERVICE THE BRAKE SYSTEM. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPPER OR LOWER CONTROL ARMS. THE CHECK ENGINE AND AIR BAG WARNING INDICATORS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO REFUEL IN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO HAVE TO WAIT AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME DURING REFUELING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
CAR STARTED SWERVING DUE TO FRAME RUSTING AND REAR SUSPENSION BECAME DETACHED.

THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY 2001 ELANTRA HAD A RECALL ON FRONT CONTROL ARMS.THIS RECALL WAS LIMITED TO SNOWBELT STATES.THE RECALL SAYS CONTROL ARMS MAY CORRODE DUE TO WATER AND SALT BEING TRAPPED INSIDE CONTROL ARM AND MAY BREAK.THEIR SOLUTION WAS TO REPLACE IF NEEDED OR DRILL DRAINAGE HOLE TO ALLOW WATER TO ESCAPE AND TREAT TO PREVENT FURTHER CORROSION.MY CAR HAD THE DRILL AND TREAT SOLUTION BUT THE CONTROL ARM BROKE ANYWAY.LUCKILY THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AT A SLOW SPEED WHEN THE BREAK OCCURRED,IF THE CAR WAS AT HIGHWAY SPEED, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD HAVE BEEN THE RESULT.HYUNDAI ADMITS TO THE DEFECT BUT IS SAYING THAT SINCE THE RECALL WAS REPAIRED IT IS NO LONGER AN ISSUE.THE CONTROL ARMS SHOULD HAVE REPLACED FROM THE BEGINNING BUT INSTEAD THEY TOOK THE CHEAP WAY OUT.I WILL REPAIR THE CAR AND TRY TO RECOVER THE MONEY FROM HYUNDAI AS A REPEAT RECALL.HYUNDAI SHOULD REPLACE ALL THE CONTROL ARMS ON CARS THAT ARE AFFECTED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.

I DROPPED MY GRANDSON AT HIS MOTHER'S HOUSE. AS I EXITED HER DRIVEWAY MY CAR EXPERIENCED SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR AND STRUCK THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET.
I TURNED OUT OF PARKING LOT HEARD A CLICK OR SOMETHING NEXT THING I KNOW MY CAR STARTING SWAYING BACK AND FORTH CAR ALMOST FLIPPED WITH MYSELF AND MINOR CHILD IN IT. I HAD TO DRIVE IT TO A SAVE PLACE ALMOST FLIPPED CAR FEW TIMES. THE CAR WAS SWAYING EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER. HAVE IT TOWED TO A HYUNDAI DEALER AND THEY INSPECTED IT SAID IT WAS SUBFRAME. AREN'T WILLING TO FIX IT EVENTHOUGH THAT MAKE A MODEL WAS RECALLED FOR FRONT SUBFRAME.I CALLED CONSUMER AFFAIRS WAS TOLD BY THEM THEY COULD FIX IT CONSIDERING I ALMOST DIED. HYUNDAI DEALER ISN'T WILLING.TELLING ME A I HAVE TO PAY $1200 FOR. SUBFRAME CUZ MINE ROTTED. I M GETTING A LAWYER CUZ I THINK THIS IS TERRIBLE IT WAS RECALLED ON FRONT I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD FIX IT NOW THEY WONT. SAFETY ISSUE WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED IF I DIED OR WRECKED AND KILLED SOMEONE. *TR

THE REAR AXLE CAME OFF OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING DUE TO CORROSION FROM RUST. *TR

WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE NOISE WENT AWAY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTROL ARM AND BALL JOINT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V125000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
I WENT TO CHANGE OIL AND THEY ADVISED ME TO CHANGE THE FRONT CONTROL ALARMS BECAUSE THEY WERE VERY RUSTED AND BAD. *TR
TOOK 2001 ELANTRA TO DEALER AS A RESULT OF LOW BRAKE FLUID. DEALER DISCOVERED VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND IRREPARABLE DUE TO CORROSION OF REAR CROSS MEMBER AND/OR "SPUD". IT IS OUR UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS CORROSION OCCURRED IN THE AREA WHERE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING. IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED THAT THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO ROAD SALT. HOWEVER, WE ALSO HAVE A (LOWER-MILEAGE) 2005 ELANTRA WHICH WE KEEP PARKED IN THE SAME GARAGE AS THE 2001 ELANTRA AND WHICH, TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE, SHOWS NO SIGN OF CORROSION. *TR
TURNING ONTO MAIN STREET WHEN A LARGE OAK TREE FELL FROM LEFT SIDE OF ROAD, CATCHING LOWER DRIVERS SIDEFRONT FIBERGLASS BUMPER AND TOW BAR. MAKING THE CAR STOP ABRUPTLY. AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, PASSENGER SIDE SHATTERED WINDSHIELD AND RIPPED DASH AREA ON PASSENGER SIDE. THE BAG HIT MY WIFE'S RIGHT ARM AND SHATTERED ALL THE BONES FROM HER ELBOW TO HER FINGERS. WE ARE 74,AND 75 YRS OF AGE. AS DRIVER MY LIP WAS SPLIT OPEN. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO MY HOME 5 BLOCKS AWAY LOOKING THROUGH A SHATTERED WINDSHIELD. BUT THE WIFE HAD TO SPEND 5 DAYS IN HOSP. AND TWO SURGERIES TO PUT HER ARM BACK TOGETHER. THE AIR BAG DID ALL OF THE BAD DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND MY WIFE. ALL ATTEMPTS TO HAVE LEGAL HELP HAS BEEN TURNED DOWN SAYING NOT ENOUGH TO TAKE TO COURT. CAN YOU HELP. THE AIR BAG ALMOST KILLED HER. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP NOT MAME...THANKYOU *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,700.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A U-TURN, THERE WAS A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE EMITTED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WITH A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE HAD BECOME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE FRONT END TO COLLAPSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FRONT AXLE AND LOWER CONTROL ARM WERE BOTH REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V125000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. I WAS MAKING A U TURN WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE, I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL MY CAR SEEM TO BE DRIFTING TO ONE SIDE UNTIL I HIT A CURB... I THANK GOD I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPEN NO TELLING WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPEN...I CALLED HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPEN ALSO TO FIND OUT IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THAT PART AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL ON 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA...

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WAS EXITING OFF OF THE PARKWAY TO THE RIGHT TRAVELING APPROX. 25- 30 MPH WHEN I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLES STEERING CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO THE CURB OF THE MEDIAN. RESULTING IN BOTH OF THE FRONT TIRES TO BLOW OUT AND PUSHING THE WHEEL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BACK INTO THE WHEEL WELL. THE CONTROL ARM WAS BROKEN WHEN WE LOOKED AT THE DAMAGE AFTER. THE VEHICLE WHICH IS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA HAD TO BE TOWED. ALSO THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I AM LOOKING INTO THIS RECALL FOR THAT VEHICLE. MILEAGE AT TIME WAS 99,400.
LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE BUT WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. UPON VISUAL INSPECTION, NOTICED THAT FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE CONTROL ARM WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND DISINTEGRATED. WHEEL WAS BASICALLY DETACHED FROM THE CAR AND FOLDING UP UNDER THE WHEEL WELL. THIS IS A RECALL ITEM IN ALL NORTHERN STATES BECAUSE THE MATERIAL RUSTS WHEN EXPOSED TO ROAD SALT. BECAUSE I'M IN NORTH CAROLINA, THE RECALL DOESN'T APPLY TO MY CAR. HOWEVER, I LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF NC WHERE THE VEHICLE IS EXPOSED TO ROAD SALT THROUGHOUT THE WINTER SEASON. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, AS IT'S A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
ON DECEMBER 14,2012 I WAS TRAVELING NORTH UP A HILL AT 35 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THEY CAR ACCELERATED TO 55 MPH. I TRIED TO STOP BUT THE CARS TIRES SCREECHED AND HIT THE LADIES CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHILE FILLING CAR WITH GAS, THE GAS SPEWED BACK AT ME AND GOT ALL OVER MY RIGHT SIDE AND INTO MY EYE. FORTUNATELY, MY EYESIGHT WASN'T IMPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V533000 (AIR BAGS: SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE) FOR THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM. THE RECALL STATED THAT THE DEALER WOULD INSTALL NEW SIDE AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR CLIPS. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER WAS TO REVISE THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS ATTACHMENTS THAT WERE UNDER THE SEATS. THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL DID NOT STATE TO PERFORM THE SPECIFIC REPAIRS. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL DESPITE THE CONTACT'S VIN BEING INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 163,000.
ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 9:30AM I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT THE HEB GROCERY STORE ON I45 AT 646 IN LEAGUE CITY, TX WHEN THE ENGINE ON MY 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA REVVED AND ROARED VERY LOUDLY AND SURGED INTO THE PICKUP TRUCK PARKED IN THE OPPOSITE SPOT. AT THE TIME I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON EITHER THE GAS PEDAL OR BRAKE. I STOMPED ON THE BRAKE BUT NOTHING HAPPENED-IT JUST KEPT REVVING AND SURGING FORWARD. I SHOVED THE STICK INTO PARK AND LUCKILY IT STOPPED. MY CAR WAS NOW IN THE SPACE THE PICKUP TRUCK HAD BEEN PARKED IN, AND THE PICKUP TRUCK WAS SHOVED OUT INTO THE DRIVING LANE BETWEEN PARKING SECTIONS. I AM EXTREMELY THANKFUL THAT NO ONE WAS IN THE PICKUP OR WALKING BY OR LOADING GROCERIES NEARBY AND NO ONE WAS HURT. I WAS SO FRIGHTENED I WAS SHAKING AND COULD BARELY DIAL 911 ON MY CELL PHONE. I AM AWAITING THEIR EVALUATION ON THE DAMAGE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD IT MAY BE TOTALED DUE TO THE AGE OF THE CAR, ALTHOUGH IT ONLY HAS 55,000 MILES ON IT. EVEN IF THE CAR CAN BE REPAIRED, I AM WORRIED THAT THE REVVING COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THE INTERNET HAS NUMEROUS SITES LISTING THE SAME TYPE OF REVVING/SURGING PROBLEMS WITH HYUNDAI ELANTRAS BUT DOESN'T LIST A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHAT CAN I DO IN REGARDS TO THIS SCARY EVENT? SPOKANE HYUNDAI MATTER I BOUGHT MY HYUNDAI IN 2001 AND HAVE OVER 100,000 MILES ON MY CAR. I AM THE SOLE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. THIS AIRBAG CONCERN IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS MANDATORY FOR THE DEALERSHIP (MANUFACTURER) TO INVESTIGATE AND FIX. THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR, SO EVEN THOUGH MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED ON MY ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, ETC; THE SAFETY (AIRBAGS) IS FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. I PURCHASED THIS MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA FROM A USED CAR LOT. IT WASN'T LONG AFTER I PURCHASED IT, I NOTICED THAT WHEN I STOPPED TO FUEL UP MY VEHICLE THAT AS I BEGIN TO PUMP FUEL, IT WOULD CLICK LIKE MY TANK WAS FULL. THEN I WOULD START PUMPING IT AGAIN AND THEN IT WOULD DO IT AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I GO TO FUEL UP MY CAR. AND IT ANNOYS ME SO MUCH.
