THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. ON MY 2010 ELANTRA AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, IT IS AS THOUGH THE GEARS ARE NOT WORKING. WHEN THE CAR IS IN DRIVE THE ISSUE ARISES. IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR TO 40 MPH I HAVE TO LITERALLY HIT THE GAS AND GET THE RPMS TO 5,000 OR ALMOST 6,000 BEFORE THE CAR WILL SHIFT. THE CAR THEN SHIFTS BUT WHEN IT IS SETTLING INTO 1000-2000 RPM'S THE POWER JERKS AS IF IT HAS LOST POWER MOMENTARILY, THIS HAPPENS ANYTIME YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCELERATE. GOING UP A SMALL HILL THIS CAR WILL GO ABOUT 10-15 MPH FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE TRANSMISSIONS GO OUT COMPLETELY WHILE THESE CARS ARE BEING DRIVEN. LOOSING THE ABILITY TO SHIFT SHOULD BE A CONCERN HERE. *TR
HAD BEEN LOSING MPG FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS (WENT DOWN FROM AVERAGE 28 TO 21) AND DEALER SAID COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. FINALLY, ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND BROUGHT CAR BACK TO DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED A FAULTY OXYGEN SENSOR. DEALER ORDERED PART AND REPLACED SENSOR COUPLE DAYS AGO. ENGINE LIGHT IS OFF BUT IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS TO CHECK THE MPG. IMPROVEMENT. *TR
JUST WANT TO INDICATE THAT MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING IT WAS BROKEN. WHEN ASKED ABOUT WARRANTY THE DEALER SAID THAT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. NOW I HEAR THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE HYUNDAI ELANTRA SEDAN FOR AIR BAG ISSUES AND THE NHTSA IS CONSIDERING INCLUDING THE TOURING MODEL IN THE RECALL. I JUST WANTED TO ADD MY VEHICLE TO THE LIST OF AFFECTED CARS WITH AN AIR BAG ISSUE! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE EPS WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED AS THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE STEERING MOTOR WAS NOT CALIBRATED. HE THEN RE-CALIBRATED THE EPS MOTOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,436 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,587. UPDATED 02/01/12 *BF UPDATED 03/26/12
TRAVELING AT SPEED OF 35 MPH, VEHICLE T BONED MY CAR IN THE DRIVERS CENTER POST AND BOTH DOORS. NOT ONE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. 2 WITH INJURIES. OVER $6000 IN DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. *JS
THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 31,000 MILES AND CONTINUES NOW WITH 85,000 MILES, WHILE DRIVING 40MPH AT STOP AND GO OR EVEN UPHILL TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SLIP INTO NEUTRAL AND WILL THEN BE BACK IN GEAR WITHOUT ANY BANGING. THE DEALER CHANGED THE FILTER AND FLUID AROUND 40,000 MILES AND BLEW US OFF. THE TIME IT TAKES TO GET BACK INTO GEAR IS LONGER NOW THAN IN THE BEGINNING. THERE'S TOO MANY TRANSMISSION COMPLAINTS TO BE IGNORED. I RECENTLY RECEIVED AN UNRELATED RECALL FOR THIS CAR BUT WILL FIND ANOTHER DEALER 50 MILES AWAY TO FIX IT. *JS
ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE HAS STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IN EACH CASE THE VEHICLE WAS COASTING AT A SLOW SPEED, I WAS NOT APPLYING MY FOOT TO THE GAS PEDAL AT THE TIME. THE ELECTRICAL POWER DID NOT DIE, NOR WAS THERE JERKING OR NOISE TO INDICATE THE ENGINE HAD STOPPED. THE ONLY SIGN THAT THE ENGINE HAD STALLED WAS THE "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" CAME ON, AND NO ACCELERATION POWER. I STILL HAD LIGHTS, RADIO, FAN, ETC. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES IN BACK OF ME AT THE TIME. IN ORDER TO RESTART THE CAR, I HAD TO SHIFT FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL, TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO RE-START, THEN SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE. FOR EACH INCIDENT, THE CAR RESTARTED RIGHT AWAY. *TR
WHILE INCHING INTO MY GARAGE WITH MY FOOT NOT ON THE GAS, MY 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED AND RAN INTO MY GARAGES BACK WALL BEFORE I COULD BREAK. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA TOURING. THE CONTACT STATED THE IGNITION FAILED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION CYLINDER AND THE KEY. THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER FILED REPORT 4439479 AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,800.
23 MAY 2011, I OWN A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WITH 14,??? MI ON IT. AS I WAS ENTERING A CURVE ON PAVED ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILED. I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL USING EXTREME EFFORT AVOIDING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I PULLED OVER TO THE NEXT SAFEST AREA TO CALM DOWN AND REGAIN MY COMPOSURE. THE EPS LIGHT WAS ON AND HAD NO POWER STEERING. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD FOR ANY SIGN OF CAUSE OF FAILURE AND FOUND NOTHING. DROVE THE CAR STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER AND THE SERVICE MANAGERS RESPONSE WHEN HE TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL WAS "OH MY". THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A LOANER CAR TO DRIVE SINCE THE ELANTRA WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON 13 JUNE AND THEY SAID THEY REPLACED A SENSOR AND THAT DIDN'T FIX IT AND THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. 20 JUNE 11, STILL WAITING ON REPAIR OF CAR. I RETURNED THE LOANER BECAUSE I NO LONGER TRUST ELECTRIC POWER STEERING NO MATTER WHAT ANYBODY TELLS ME. YES THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY AND THE PARTS CAN BE REPLACED. BUT, I AM THE SOLE PROVIDER FOR MY FAMILY, I DON'T HAVE A WARRANTY NOR ANY REPLACEMENT PARTS AND IT COST A WHOLE LOT MORE TO FIX ANY DAMAGES TO ME THAN IT DOES THAT CAR. NOT TO MENTION THE PERSON I MET IN THAT CURVE OR THEIR FAMILY. *TT
BLOWN HEAD GASKET ON 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WITH 18,000 MILES, NO WARNINGS, FIRST SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING THEN NOTICED ENGINE COVERED WITH OIL AND OIL DRIPPING TO THE GROUND, DID NOT OVERHEAT. THE GASKET WAS REPLACED AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE GASKET WAS POROUS IN AN AREA (ON THE CORNER) AND THIS IS WHERE THE OIL WAS COMING OUT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS CUT OFF BY ANOTHER CAR. I WAS TRAVELLING ABOUT 50MPH, I PROCEEDED TO BRAKE (DID NOT REQUIRE HARD BRAKING, BECAUSE ME SPEED WAS NOT HIGH) AND STEER TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID HITTING THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR THAT CUT ME OFF. MY CAR OVER COMPENSATED AND PROCEEDED TO SWERVE. IT TOOK A LOT TO REGAIN CONTROL. MY INITIAL STEER TO AVOID THE CAR IN FRONT WAS NOT SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE OUT OF CONTROL. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH OTHER VEHICLES THAT I HAVE DRIVEN AND THIS EXPERIENCE WAS RATHER FRIGHTENING.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA TOURING. THE TIRE BRAND WAS KUMHO SOLUS KH16 AND THE TIRE SIZE WAS P215/45/R17 (NA). THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE TIRES DEVELOPED BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BECOME UNBALANCED AS IF HE WERE RIDING ON AN UNEVEN PAVEMENT. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A WARRANTY TIRES AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRES WERE LOW PROFILE AND DUE TO THE AREA OF THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE THAT HE WOULD CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,400.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PRESSED THE OFF BUTTON FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL TO DEACTIVATE YET THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DEACTIVATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A METAL GUARDRAIL AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED FIFTY FEET FROM THE GUARD RAIL. THE CONTACT WAS UNINJURED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR BODY DAMAGE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE FURTHER ASSISTANCE BUT INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH A CRASH BOX. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,700.
STEM ON TPMS SENSOR BROKE WHEN PUTTING AIR INTO CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE ON SEPARATE TIRES, COSTING ~$200 TO REPAIR. *TR
TRUNK LID OPENS BY ITSELF EITHER WHEN DRIVING OR WHILE PARKED. HAD MY 2010 ELANTRA TOWED TO DEALER SATURDAY 03/05/11 AFTER HEARING A LOUD SOUND UNDER REAR OF CAR AS IF SOMETHING METAL HAD BROKEN, THEN IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING UNDER THE REAR OF THE CAR HAD DROPPED, THEN A LOUD SCRAPING NOISE OCCURRED, THIS HAPPENED WHILE TURNING RIGHT INTO MY PAVED DRIVEWAY. I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND LOOKED UNDER THE CAR, THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE ROAD OR MY DRIVEWAY. AS I PULLED THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY LOUD RATTLING AND SCRAPING SOUNDS AND SOUNDS OF SPRINGS STRETCHING AND BREAKING WERE COMING FROM THE LEFT REAR WHEEL, I LOOKED FOR ANYTHING FOREIGN STUCK IN THE WHEELS AND SAW NOTHING. THE DEALER SAID ALL THEY FOUND WAS RUST ON THE ROTOR. GIVE ME A BREAK, ALL ROTORS RUST AND IT RAINED ALL DAY SUNDAY BEFORE THEY LOOKED AT THE CAR. I HAD DRIVEN THE CAR AT LEAST 45 MILES THAT SATURDAY BEFORE THIS ALL OCCURRED, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO RUST LEFT ON THE BRAKING SURFACE OF THE ROTORS BY THEN. BESIDES RUST DOES NOT CAUSE THE SOUNDS THAT I HEARD. ALSO WHEN THE CAR WAS UP ON THE FLAT-BED I NOTICED THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WAS ON A SLANT. I WILL ASK THE DEALER TO FULLY INSPECT THE SUSPENSION AND IF THEY CAN PULL THE REAR ROTORS OFF TO INSPECT THE EMERGENCY BRAKES AND TO CHECK OUT WHY THE TRUNK LID OPENS BY ITSELF ON TUESDAY 03/08/11, AND I WILL LET THE NHTSA KNOW THE RESULTS. TWO PASSENGERS SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK AND LEFT LEG. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURES TO THE NECK AND THE PASSENGER HAD INJURES . THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,200.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE A PROBLEM WITH THE LATCH. A CAR PURCHASED NEW AND DRIVEN FOR FOUR MONTHS IS EXPERIENCING BRAKE FAILURE. IT IS OCCURRING WHEN DRIVEN IN SNOWY CONDITIONS WHILE IN LOWER GEAR. THE PEDAL LOCKS MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO PUSH DOWN IN ORDER TO BRAKE. THE PEDAL SHAKES AND GRINDS IN THE PROCESS. *TR

CONSUMER STATES DURING SNOW SEASON, NUMEROUS TIMES THE FRONT TIRES SWAYED TO THE LEFT AND THEN RIGHT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE DID NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN IT HAPPENED AND SHE WAS GOING 10-15 MPH. THE CONSUMER STATED AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE AND THE INSPECTION REVEALED THE FRONT AND REAR TOE WAS OUT OF SPECIFICATIONS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BECAME UNSTABLE IN ADVERSE WIND CONDITIONS. THE CONTACT WAS NOT SURE OF WHAT THE WIND SPEEDS WERE THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM, BUT THE VEHICLE STARTED ROCKING FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH. THIS HAD ALSO HAPPENED WHEN PASSING TRUCKS IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND AFTER A TEST DRIVE; THE DEALER SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FEELS THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM BECAUSE AT THE TIME THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE NORMAL. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 457.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BOUNCE INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED OVER 50 MPH. THE VEHICLE ALSO FISH TAILS OCCASIONALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY LOWERED THE TIRE PRESSURE; HOWEVER; AFTER 1500 MILES THE PROBLEMS WERE STILL OCCURRING CONSISTENTLY. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCK FROM THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AT FIRST AND WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. AFTER ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO SIT IDLE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER INSPECTED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,000. UPDATED 01/24/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE HER SON WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE MADE A NOISE AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND THE POWER STEERING, BRAKES AND GEAR SHIFT LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE HAD A FAULTY JUNCTION BOX. HOWEVER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN 10 DAYS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AGAIN, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. UPDATED 04/18/11
2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING ALL SYSTEMS LOCKED UP *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LOST POWER FOR THE SECOND TIME WHILE HER SON WAS DRIVING. HER SON WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. *JB

THE STEERING SERVICE WARNING LIGHT ALSO BEGAN ILLUMINATING ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,200. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
IN OCTOBER 2010 MY 6-MONTH OLD HYUNDAI ELANTRA TOURING CAUGHT FIRE AFTER SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR NINE HOURS. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY TOTALED. MY INSURANCE COMPANY (GEICO) SECURED THE CAR AND HIRED A FORENSIC ENGINEERING COMPANY (DOWN FORENSIC ENGINEERING, INC., CARY NC) TO INVESTIGATE THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. DOWN CONCLUDED THAT THE FIRE WAS ELECTRICAL AND ORIGINATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HYUNDAI OFFERED TO REIMBURSE MY INSURANCE POLICY DEDUCTIBLES AND TO PAY ME $500 FOR GOOD WILL, BUT HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE OR REIMBURSE ME FOR ANY OTHER EXPENSES RELATED TO THE FIRE. AS FAR AS I KNOW, HYUNDAI HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR TSB ON THE CAR.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT APPEARED ON THE SCENE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS ALSO FILED BUT NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN INSURANCE LOT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONCLUDED THE FIRE WAS DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
IN OCTOBER 2010 MY 6-MONTH OLD HYUNDAI ELANTRA TOURING CAUGHT FIRE AFTER SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR NINE HOURS. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY TOTALED. MY INSURANCE COMPANY (GEICO) SECURED THE CAR AND HIRED A FORENSIC ENGINEERING COMPANY (DOWN FORENSIC ENGINEERING, INC., CARY NC) TO INVESTIGATE THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. DOWN CONCLUDED THAT THE FIRE WAS ELECTRICAL AND ORIGINATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA CONDUCTED ITS OWN INSPECTION, WHICH DID NOT CONCLUSIVELY DETERMINE THE CAUSE OR ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA DID, HOWEVER, OFFER TO REIMBURSE MY INSURANCE POLICY DEDUCTIBLES AND TO PAY ME $500 FOR GOODWILL, BUT HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE OR REIMBURSE ME FOR ANY OTHER EXPENSES RELATED TO THE FIRE. AS FAR AS I KNOW, HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR TSB ON THE CAR. I HAVE REFUSED TO ACCEPT HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICAS OFFER.

I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2010 ELANTRA. I SOON NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT, AND VERY SOON IT STARTED PULLING HARD TO THE RIGHT. I TOOK IT IN TO HAVE IT ALIGNED. IT STILL PULLED RIGHT BUT IT WAS MUCH BETTER. SOON IT STARTED PULLING AGAIN, THIS TIME AT HIGHER RATES OF SPEED, 65-70 MPH. (BEFORE IT WAS AT SLOWER RATES OF SPEED(25 TO 45 MPH?). AGAIN, I TOOK IT TO BE ALIGNED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THEY CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE, ROTATED TIRES, AND CHECKED ALIGNMENT AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT WITHIN SPEC. I DROVE HOME WITH AN "IN-SPEC" CAR THAT STILL PULLED RIGHT. IT EVENTUALLY GOT WORSE WITH A HARDER PULL TO THE RIGHT, SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, WHO CHECKED IT OUT AND CONFIRMED IT WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THEY DID AN ALIGNMENT, AND THE CAR DROVE WITH GREAT IMPROVEMENT, BUT IT STILL HAD A SLIGHT PULL TO THE RIGHT. I DROVE IT FOR A TIME WITH THE SLIGHT PULL, BUT IT GRADUALLY CONTINUED TO GET WORSE, SO I TOOK IT IN AGAIN TO THIS SAME DEALERSHIP. THEY AGAIN CONFIRMED IT WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT, AND ALIGNED THE CAR. I DROVE THE CAR HOME AND IT STILL HAD A SLIGHT PULL TO THE RIGHT. TWO WEEKS LATER, I TOOK THE CAR TO AN OUTSIDE SOURCE TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS STILL A PULL TO THE RIGHT, AND THAT THE STEERING WAS OFF AS WELL. I WILL BE MAKING YET ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR TO HAVE IT ALIGNED. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 8 MONTHS AND HAVE HAD IT ALIGNED 5 TIMES SO FAR. THE DEALER (FAIRFAX HYUNDAI, 10925 FAIRFAX BLVD, FAIRFAX, VA 22030, (703) 352-0444) UPDATED THE SOFTWARE AND STATED THAT THE EPS CONTROL UNIT DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. SHORTLY AFTER THE DEALER'S REPAIR, THE EPS RANDOMLY FAILED AND MADE IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE NUMEROUS TIMES AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14.

HYUNDAI ELANTRA TOURING PULLS TO THE RIGHT WHILE ACCELERATING AND TRAVELING AT 50 MPH. IT HURTS YOUR WRIST TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD. ALIGNMENT AND TIRE ROTATION DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. FILED A REPORT ON THE SUSPENSION, STEERING AND BRAKES. THIS REPORT IS SOMETHING I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT UNTIL I SAW OTHERS WERE HAVING THESE TWO ISSUES. 1. WHEN YOU TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, IT STILL DINGS AND THE DOORS WON'T LOCK. I AM ASSUMING IT STILL THINK THE KEY IS IN THE IGNITION. YOU HAVE TO PUT THE KEY BACK IN AND TAKE IT OUT AGAIN TO GET THE DINGING TO STOP. 2. I HAVE TWO CIGARETTE LIGHTER RECEPTACLES (NOW KNOWN AS 12V ACCESSORY SOCKETS). CANNOT USE BOTH AT THE SAME TIME AS IT CAUSES THE TPMS LIGHT TO COME ON. A FEW SECONDS AFTER ONE OF THE RECEPTACLES HAVE BEEN EMPTIED THE TPMS LIGHT GOES OUT. THE FIRST ISSUE HAPPENS WHILE PARKED AND THE SECOND ISSUES HAPPENS WHETHER PARKED OR DRIVING . . . MOSTLY WHEN DRIVING.

THEY KEPT MY CAR TILL JUNE 25 . THEN I SEPT,4 THE CAR STALLS LOST ALL POWER AGAIN THIS I HAD TO SWERVE AND TURN MY STEERING WHEEL WITH ALL MY POWER TO AVOID HITTING THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND HIT A TREE HEAD ON CAUSING INJURY TO ME AND THE CAR HAD $4600 OF DAMAGE, AND THEN AGAIN ON DEC 20 I HAD ANOTHER ACCIDENT I WAS 4 CARS LENGTH AWAY WHEN I COULD STOP MY CAR CAUSING DAMAGES TO ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME ,AND ALSO MY CAR HAS ANOTHER $ 5 000 PLUS AND WHEN I CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND THE DEALERSHIP NOTHING IS BEEN DONE ON THEIR PART. *TR
AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING A CRASH. MY DAUGHTER WAS OPERATING A HYUNDAI ELANTRA AND REAR-ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. (APPROX SPEED 35) HER VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, BUT THE SEATBELTS SAVED HER. HER CHEST IS EXTREMELY BRUISED FROM THE IMPACT. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 0 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000.
AM THE OWNER OF A 2010 ELANTRA WHICH WAS PURCHASED NEW IN THE SPRING AND HAVE EXPERIENCED MY TRUNK OPEN SUDDENLY MANY TIMES OVER THE PAST 10 MONTHS - EITHER WHILE DRIVING AND/OR IN THE GARAGE. ONCE WHERE IT WAS PARKED FOR 4 DAYS AND RESULTED IN THE BATTERY DISCHARGING FULLY BECAUSE THE TRUNK LIGHT WAS LEFT ON. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT I MUST SOMEHOW BE PRESSING THE FOB BUTTON TO OPEN THE TRUNK, WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN THE CASE. THE ACTUAL FOB BUTTON REQUIRES A LOT OF PRESSURE TO OPEN THE TRUNK. *TR
THE ELANTRA TOURING PULLS TO THE RIGHT. AFTER 6 TRIPS TO SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS AUTHORIZED BY HYUNDAI THE CAR STILL PULLS TO THE RIGHT. IT IS VERY TIRING CONTINUOUSLY CORRECTING THE STEERING.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRUNK LIFT GATE CAME OPEN. THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO IMMEDIATELY STOP IN THE STREET AND CLOSED THE LIFT GATE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS. THE FAILURE HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST FOUR TIMES AND THEY REPLACED AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT WHICH THE CONTACT COULD NOT IDENTIFY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,400.

DEALER SAID THE STEERING IS MADE THAT WAY BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE ROAD IS CURVED. YOU HAVE TO GET USE TO IT. DID AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND OTHERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE TOURNING. *TT
WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET BETWEEN 40 AND 50MPH INSTEAD OF BEING SET AT THAT SPEED/MPH THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING TO 70MPH, ONLY WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES DID IT SLOW DOWN. THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK, AND I TESTED IT OUT AND IT HAPPENS MAYBE 5% OF THE TIME BUT NOT IN ANY RANDOM INCREMENT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND AN ADDITIONAL INVESTIGATION PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THAT THE THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS NORMAL. A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE YET, THE FAILURE RECURRED AS A RESULT OF PREMATURE TIRE TREAD WEAR ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,305.
I TOOK DELIVERY OF THE BRAND NEW CAR & ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD I NOTICED PROMINENT BOUNCES AFTER THE CAR WOULD GO OVER BUMP IN THE ROAD WHEN THE CAR WAS DECELERATING TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I FELT A TOTAL OF THREE BOUNCES WITH THE FIRST BEING THE LARGEST, SECOND HALF OF FIRST, THIRD HALF OF SECOND, & FOURTH COULDN'T BE FELT. IT WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC & GOING LIGHT TO LIGHT. THE BUMPS WERE RAISE SECTIONS OF THE ROAD AFFECTING ALL FOUR TIRES. THE BUMPS WERE NOT POTHOLES. I EMAILED MY SALESPERSON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY OF THE PROBLEM WITH NO RESPONSE. MY MAIN CONCERN IS HIGHWAY DRIVING. ONE STRETCH OF HIGHWAY HAS CEMENT SLABS IN AN UNDULATING PATTERN THAT I HAVE DRIVEN OVER DAILY FOR A VERY LONG TIME AT MANY DIFFERENT SPEEDS & IN MANY DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS. MY PREVIOUS CAR WOULD REACT BY RUMBLING UP & DOWN. THAT SENSATION WAS CONSTANT OVER THE YEARS AT ANY SPEED & DRIVING CONDITION. ONCE I CLEARED THAT SECTION OF THE BAD HIGHWAY, MY CAR WOULD IMMEDIATELY STOP. THE FIRST TIME I WENT OVER THAT SAME STRETCH OF HIGHWAY IN MY NEW CAR AT AN EST. 60-65 MPH, THE CAR BEGIN TO OSCILLATE HARMONICALLY (BOUNCE RHYTHMICALLY) & CONTINUED TO HARMONICALLY OSCILLATE (BOUNCE) ONCE I CLEARED THAT BAD SECTION OF THE HIGHWAY FOR AN ADDITIONAL MINUTE. I ESTIMATED THE TOTAL TIME AT TWO MINUTES. THE HARMONIC OSCILLATION FELT VERY CONSISTENT OVER THAT TWO MINUTE STRETCH. ONCE I WENT OVER ANOTHER BUMP THE OSCILLATION WENT STOPPED. THE STRUTS ARE SUPPOSED TO DAMPEN THE OSCILLATIONS. I BROUGHT IT INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE MECHANIC TEST DROVE IT & SAID THE SUSPENSION FELT FIRM. THE SUSPENSION CHECKED OUT OK (NO NUMBERS GIVEN). IT HAS A SPORT TUNED SUSPENSION & WAS SUPPOSE TO DO THIS. THE MECHANIC DIDN'T DRIVE THE BAD SECTION OF THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE IT WAS TOO FAR AWAY. I WILL TRY TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER WITH THE HYUNDAI'S FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER.
