PERIODICALLY MY CAR REFUSES TO START. THE BATTERY IS GOOD, ALL LIGHTS ON THE DASH ARE NORMAL, HEADLIGHTS WORK, RADIO WORKS, CAR IS IN PARKED POSITION, YET WHEN I TURN THE KEY IT REFUSES TO START. THIS IS THE SECOND SET OF OCCURRENCES OF THE SAME ISSUE. I EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE LAST YEAR (2014), AT WHICH TIME I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR INTO SERVICE ON MORE THAN THREE OCCASIONS BEFORE THE FIGURED IT OUT. THEY EVENTUALLY SORTED OUT THE ISSUE IN NOVEMBER OF 2014. NOW 6 MONTHS AFTER, IN MAY 2015, THE SAME ISSUE OCCURS ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT HYUNDAI WILL ONLY WARRANTY THE PART BUT NOT THE LABOR COSTS. TODAY WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP, THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE OTHER HYUNDAI ELANTRA OWNER WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I'D HATE THAT THE CAR REFUSE TO START IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION THIS IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING THAT HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF, YET REFUSE TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY AND REMEDY THE SITUATION FOR MYSELF AND ALL OTHER CUSTOMERS. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS. I ALSO HAVE A SECOND ISSUE WITH THIS CAR, FROM THE DAY OF PURCHASE. THE CAR SHAKES AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 40MPH AND 55MPH. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS TO TWO DIFFERENT HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS, YET THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE. THEY HAVE BALANCED THE TIRES, ALIGNED THE WHEELS, ROTATED THE TIRES, ETC, YET NONE OF THEIR ATTEMPTS HAVE RESULTED IN A SOLUTION. THIS ISSUE MAKE DRIVING THE CAR FEEL VERY UNSAFE, AND VERY UNPREDICTABLE IN WET CONDITIONS
MY CAR IS SUBJECT TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V-310 RECALL FOR AIR BAGS. I RECEIVED A RECALL FROM HYUNDAI THAT ADVISES ME TO GO TO WWW.HYUNDAIUSA.COM/CAMPAIGN117 TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR. I HAVE TRIED 4 TIMES TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR, BUT THE WEBSITE DOES NOT WORK. IT CONFIRMS MY VIN, BUT WHEN I ENTER MY ZIP CODE, THE SITE LOCKS UP SO I NEVER GET TO THE SITE WHERE I SCHEDULE THE REPAIR. WHAT GOOD IS A RECALL IF HYUNDAI WON'T LET ME SCHEDULE THE REPAIR? HELP PLEASE. *TR
THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON WITH OTHER ELANTRA DRIVERS. THERE ARE VIDEOS ON YOU TUBE WITH THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE DOESN'T START AT TIMES AND IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A NEW CAR AND SHOULD HAVE ISSUES LIKE THAT. IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE STARTER OR THE IGNITION SWITCH. *TR
WHEN STOPPED AT RED LIGHTS OR MERGING FROM A SLOW SPEED INTO FAST MOVING TRAFFIC THE VEHICLES RPM GAUGE SUDDENLY SHOOTS UP, THE CAR SHAKES AND THEN STALLS FOR NO APPARENT REASON.
VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN, AND APPLYING BREAK PRESSURE ONLY SLOWED VEHICLE BUT KEPT ACCELERATING. HYUNDAI REPORTS NO ISSUES, YET THIS INCIDENT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET DOING SEARCHES ON HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI REPORTS NO RECALLS. WHEN CAR PLACED IN PARK MODE, RPM SHOT TO MAXIMUM OF 8 AND STAYED THERE. WHEN PLACED CAR BACK IN DRIVE, CAR RPM WENT TO 2 AND CAR WANTS TO ACCELERATE FAST. PLEASE NHTSA, APPLY PRESSURE FOR RECALL FOR THIS VERY UNSAFE CONDITION ON A VEHICLE. *TR
WE HAD OUR OIL CHANGE DONE, MY HUSBAND DROVE OUT HIGHWAY AT NITE GOING STRAIGHT AND ALL OF SUDDEN CAR STARTED DRIVE ODD.SAW OIL LIGHT ON PULLED OVER,TOWED TO DEALERSHIP.THEY IN TURN SAID ENGINE WAS BAD,HAD TO SELL US ANOTHER CAR. HAS THAT HAPPENED TO OTHERS?
THE CAR WON'T START. THIS IS A PUSH BUTTON START. I THOUGHT PERHAPS THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE KEY THAT HAS TO BE IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF STARTING THE CAR. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS IS HAPPENED IN THREE WEEKS. THEN I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED AN ONLINE NUMBER AND FOUND OUT THAT THE MANUFACTURE IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY ARE NOT ISSUING A RECALL BUT THEY CALL THIS A CAMPAIGN AND HAVE A NUMBER FOR THIS PROBLEM WHICH IS 933. THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR, BUT THEY WILL PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THEN I CALLED A DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT TO BRING THE CAR IN. I FEEL THIS IS ALL HUSH-HUSH, TO THE DISADVANTAGE OF THE OWNER, WHO COULD FIND THEMSELVES IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE CAR WILL START. PLEASE INVESTIGATE, INCLUDING AN ONLINE SEARCH, TO DETERMINE IF A NATIONWIDE MANDATORY RECALL SHOULD BE INITIATED. *TR
I DRIVE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC TO AND FROM WORK. WHEN I PUSH ON GAS IT MAKES ONE KNOCK SOUND. WHEN I LET GO IT MAKES ONE KNOCK SOUND. IT'S ONLY ONCE, IT DOES NOT KNOCK CONTINUOUSLY. IT STARTED MAKING THIS NOISE AFTER OIL CHANGE IN JANUARY EVERY SO OFTEN BUT IT HAS GOTTEN TO BE EVERY TIME I PUSH ON GAS AND LET GO NOW. I WAS TOLD I NEED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH WHEN I GOT THE OIL CHANGED JUST RECENTLY IN APRIL. COULD THIS BE THE WHAT IS CAUSING THE KNOCK NOISE? I READ REVIEWS ON FLUSHES AND SOME SAY TO GET IT DONE , OTHERS SAY IT HAS DAMAGED THEIR CARS TRANSMISSION.
I TURNED THE KEY TO THE START POSITION SO I COULD START THE CAR, BUT IT WOULD NOT START UP. THE CAR WAS IN PARK. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, AND FOUND SOME VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE, AND PEOPLE COMMENTED THEY WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. SOME PEOPLE MENTIONED THAT IF YOU TURN THE KEY SO YOU CAN MOVE THE SHIFTER FROM PARK TO NEUTRAL, AND BACK TO PARK, THE CAR MAY START UP. I TRIED EXACTLY THIS, AND AS SOON AS I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE SHIFTER TO NEUTRAL, THE CAR STARTED UP. IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE INHIBITOR SWITCH, WHICH I WILL TRY TO GET THAT REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP IF POSSIBLE. SINCE MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE! *TR
TODAY I WENT OUT TO START MY CAR AFTER IT SITTING OUT OVER NIGHT (LIVING IN NORTH DAKOTA MY VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS SAT OUT IN THE COLD OVER WINTER AND STARTED WITH NO ISSUES) AND IT WOULD NOT START. THE LIGHTS, DOORS, WIDOWS, EVERYTHING ELSE ELECTRICAL WORKED JUST FIND, BUT THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN ON. I TRIED CHARGING THE BATTERY AND JUMPING IT WITH A FRIENDS VEHICLE. NOTHING HAS WORKED. I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON ISSUE AMONG HYUNDAI'S. I WOULD HOPE HYUNDAI WILL SOON HAVE SOME ANSWERS AND FIXES FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
MY CAR WON'T START THE FIRST 4-5 TIMES I HIT THE START BUTTON. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED MY CAR WAS LOWER ON GAS AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS VERY LOW. I FILLED THE CAR UP, RAN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR 20 MINUTES. THE NEXT DAY IT WAS THE SAME SITUATION. I TOOK IT TO A SERVICE GARAGE AND THEY TESTED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR, BOTH WERE PERFECT. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT JUST BE THE COLD, EVEN THOUGH I NEVER HAD THESE ISSUES AT LOWER TEMPS. THE THIRD DAY IT WAS 30 DEGREES...SAME ISSUE. TODAY WAS THE FOURTH DAY, WHERE MY CAR WON'T TURN OVER. WHAT IS GOING ON?? THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *JS
TAKATA INFLATORS FIRST DAY I GOT THE CAR, I WAS DRIVING SLOW DUE TO POOR CONDITIONS (SNOW) WHEN I TRIED TO STOP BRAKES MADE A GRINDING NOISE CAR PULLED OFF TO ONE SIDE. I CAME DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO SMASHING INTO A SNOW BANK. I ASSUMED THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE ROAD CONDITIONS. THIS HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY, EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE I APPLY THE BREAKS, HEAR THE GRINDING NOISE AAND LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. IM VERY LUCKY AND SURPRISED I HAVENT GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS. ITS EXTREMELY SCARY AND I ABSOLUTELY HATE DRIVING THE CAR IN FEAR OF THIS HAPPENING AND CAUSING A CRASH.
THE CAR WONT START. THE BATTERY AND STARTER ARE FINE. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, JUST PERIODICALLY, MAYBE EVERY OTHER DAY OR TWICE A WEEK. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A PATTERN. THE CAR STARTS EVENTUALLY AFTER NUMEROUS TURNS OF THE KEY. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER IF I TURN OFF THE LIGHTS, RADIO ETC.. *TR
2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WOULD NOT START WHEN IN PARK, EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY HAS A FULL CHARGE. SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND BACK TO PARK, AND IT STARTED ON THE FIRST TRY. *TR
ON THREE OCCASIONS THE PAST 2 WEEKS, MY CAR WOULD NOT START. IN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, I FIND THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH 2012 AND 2013 ELANTRAS. WHILE THIS IS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE PERFORMANCE, IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE DRIVER FINDING OUT THAT YOUR CAR WON'T START AND IT'S THE MIDDLE OF THE WINTER. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS COMMON ISSUE AND ISSUE A RECALL TO REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE PART(S). *TR
CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS AT TURNING KEY, IT FINALLY STARTED. LIGHTS AND HORN FUNCTIONED PROPERLY, BUT I REPLACED THE BATTERY ANYWAY. CAR WOULD STILL NOT START ON FIRST FEW ATTEMPTS. ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER AT ALL, THEN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT TURNING KEY, IT WOULD START, AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG. BROUGHT IT TO DEALER, THEY SAID THEY CLEANED OUT SOME PARTS OF THE ENGINE AND UPDATED THE COMPUTER. THE NEXT DAY I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID THEY CHANGED SOME FUSES. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE ARE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS OF THIS HAPPENING FOR OTHER OWNERS OF THIS CAR WHICH I FOUND ONLINE WHEN I WAS LOOKING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. *TR
SUNROOF SHATTERED TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH IN VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC, HEARD A LOUD NOISE ON TOP OF CAR. SOON REALIZED BY THE WIND NOISE THAT THE SUNROOF HAD BROKEN. PULLED OFF AT NEXT EXIT, OBSERVED SHATTERED SUNROOF GLASS. CONCERNED THIS IS A DEFECT - AS THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AROUND TO THROW ANYTHING INTO THE ROOF OF THE CAR, AND IT DID NOT HAPPEN AFTER PASSING UNDER AN OVERPASS. THERE WAS NO EXPLANATION FOR THE DAMAGE. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS STARTED TO FAIL FIRST RIGHT SIDE REAR THEN ALL FAILED INCLUDING THE THIRD LIGHT.
INABILITY OF HYUNDAI MANUFACTURED WIPERS TO CLEAR RAIN, AND ADDED STREAKS. DRIVING IN RAINSTORM BECAME VERY DANGEROUS. AM FILING COMPLAINT NOW, HOWEVER, HAVE HAD WIPERS REPLACED ON 2 OCCASIONS IN ORDER TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. *TR
I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY CAR ON COMPACTED SNOW OR ICE. THE BACKEND FISHTAILS SO BAD I FEAR LOSING CONTROL. I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO 30 MPH TO CONTROL THE CAR. I WILL NOT DRIVE ON ANY BIG HIGHWAYS BECAUSE I CAN'T GO OVER 30 MPH. LIKE OTHER COMPLAINTS I HAVE LIVED IN MN ALL MY LIFE AND HAD MANY CARS. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED WHAT I AM WITH THIS CAR. THEY BACK END HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN. IF YOU GO TO CARCOMPLAINTS.COM YOU WILL SEE WHAT OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING. THERE ARE LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. LOOK UP THE 2013'S TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON. I LOVE MY CAR BUT NOW FEEL I HAVE TO GET RID OF IT. IN GOOD CONSCIENCE I CAN'T SELL THIS TO A PRIVATE PARTY. I DON'T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR DEATH. ONLY CHOICE IS THRU A DEALER AND LOSE MONEY. I SUPPOSE A HYUNDAI DEALER IS MY ONLY OPTION BECAUSE SOME OF THEM ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. ONE ADMITTED IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. LET THE DEALER SHIP CAR TO A SOUTHERN STATE WHERE THERE IS NO SNOW AND ICE. PLEASE HELP. MAKE HYUNDAI FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF ALL THE TIME THAT SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. THERE IS NOTHING IN THE SEAT OR A PERSON. IT COMES ON AND OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING OR SITTING AT THE LIGHT. MOST OF THE TIME, IT DOES NOT COME ON WHEN I FIRST START THE VEHICLE. IT WAS REPAIRED ONCE SEVERAL YEARS AND THAT WAS $350.00. THAT STAYED ON ALL THE TIME. I THINK IT IS A MFG DEFECT.
WHILE ON A TRIP ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP. DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS CHEAP GAS, WHICH I JUST FILLED UP WITH MOBIL GAS. ALSO I JUST CHANGED OIL AND TOLD IT WAS CAUSED BY A PINT OVERFILL. THEY MUST HAVE PUT ON COMPUTER AND ADJUSTED SPECS AND TURNED ENGINE LIGHT OFF. I LOST 5 MILES TO GALLON, ALSO DOESN'T SHIFT JUST RIGHT. I READ SOME COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET ABOUT TRANSMISSION TROUBLE ON MY TOURING MODEL. THEY STOPPED MAKING THE MODEL IN 2012? THE DEALER WAS IN COCOA BEACH FL. CAR BOUGHT AT DEALER NEW IN NPW FL. I PLAN A 3000 MI RETURN TRIP SOON, AFRAID TO TAKE CAR INCASE I GET STUCK ON HWY. *TR
MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GLS WOULD NOT START THIS MORNING. I LAST DROVE MY CAR HOME & PARKED IT ON 18TH DECEMBER AND WAS HOME BY 6PM. MY CAR SAT UNTIL THE 20TH OF DECEMBER AROUND 9 PM WHEN I WENT OUT TO START IT TO CHECK THE FUEL LEVEL. MY CAR SAT TILL 6:20 AM ON THE 21ST OF DECEMBER. I HIT MY DOOR UNLOCK ON MY KEY FOB AND THE DOORS UNLOCKED FROM THERE I PROCEEDED TO START MY CAR. EVERYTHING STARTED BUT THE CAR. I TURNED BACK TO THE STARTING POSITION AND TRIED AGAIN. SAME RESULTS. AFTER REVIEW OF MY ISSUE ON VARIOUS FORUMS THE "RANGE SWITCH" CONTINUES TO BE THE FAULTY PART. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK VIOLENTLY AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT EITHER THE FRONT ENLIGHTENMENT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED OR THE FRONT TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN A SECOND TIME TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY RECALIBRATED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,066.
2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE BATTERY AS AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. THE DEALER STATED THE BATTERY WAS NOT UNDER WARRANT, SO A REIMBURSEMENT IS BEING REQUESTED. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY. *JB
THE CAR WOULDN'T CRANK OR START WHEN I GOT TO THE GAS STATION. AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES WITH PUTTING THE CAR SHIFTER IN PARK TO NEUTRAL AND SWITCHING THE GEARS IT FINALLY STARTED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOOK IT DOWN TO GET LOOKED AT. AS I WAS DRIVING IT DOWN TO THE DEALERSHIP AS I WAS APPROACHING THE TRAFFIC LIGHT I REALIZED THE CAR WASN'T RUNNING ANYMORE AND BY THIS POINT I HAD LIMITED BRAKE ASSISTANCE AND ALSO LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND HAD TO USE THE E-BRAKE TO HELP WITH STOPPING THE VEHICLE TO PREVENT THE ACCIDENT THAT WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. THIS WAS A GREAT THING THAT I WAS DRIVING AND NOT MY WIFE AS SHE WOULD'VE FROZE AND MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO THINK HOW TO GET THE CAR TO STOP IN WHICH THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A ACCIDENT WITH BODILY INJURY OR EVEN POSSIBLE DEATH OF THE PERSON DRIVING THE CAR OR THE INNOCENT PERSON THAT WAS COLLECTED UP IN THE ACCIDENT BUT NO ONE WOULD KNOW AS IT DIDN'T HAPPEN, THANK GOD FOR THIS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED THE REST OF THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY LOOKED AT IT AND THE CAR STARTED FOR THEM AND THEY TESTED THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, AND STARTER AND ALL TESTED GOOD SO THEY GAVE THE CAR BACK TO ME STATING IT WAS THE AC INVERT-OR THAT WAS PLUGGED IN TO THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER. I TOLD THEM THAT I PLUGGED THE INVERT-OR IN AFTER THE CAR DIED TO CHARGE MY PHONE BUT THEY STILL INSISTED THAT I WAS LYING I GUESS. I DROVE THE CAR OFF THE LOT AND A FEW DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN BUT I WAS GOING 35 MPH AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH NO INCIDENT AS I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR NORMAL SPEED AND KNEW IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN AS THE DEALER SHIP HAD NOT FOUND ANYTHING FAULTY. NOW IT SITS IN THE DRIVEWAY AND IS COMPLETELY DEAD AND WILL NOT START. CAR WON'T START ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. FOR ABOUT A WEEK STRAIGHT, I WOULD TRY TO START MY CAR IN THE MORNING AND IT WOULD NOT START. ALL LIGHTS COME ON IN THE CAR SO IT'S NOT THE BATTERY. AFTER ABOUT 3 TRIES, CAR STARTS. ALSO HAPPENS WHEN I LEAVE WORK AT LUNCH TIME AFTER IT HAS BEEN JUST SITTING FOR A FEW HOURS. USUALLY IT STARTS AFTER 2 OR 3 TRIES AND TURNING THE KEY ALL THE WAY AND HOLDING IT THERE UNTIL IT DOES. A FEW TIMES I HAVE HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO START IT. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK, IT STOPPED DOING IT. NOW A MONTH LATER, IT IS DOING IT AGAIN AND GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO START. TODAY IT TOOK LIKE 10 TRIES TO GET IT STARTED. DEALER SAYS IT HAS TO BE DOING IT FOR THEM TO FIGURE IT OUT BUT IT'S NOT DOING IT EVERY TIME CONSISTENTLY. WILL TAKE IT THERE TODAY AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL DO IT FOR THEM AS WELL. NHTSA AND IIHS DICTATE THAT "DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRLS) ARE HEADLIGHTS THAT ARE LIT WHENEVER A VEHICLE IS RUNNING. A LOW-COST METHOD TO REDUCE CRASHES, THEY ARE ESPECIALLY EFFECTIVE IN PREVENTING DAYTIME HEAD-ON AND FRONT-CORNER COLLISIONS BY MAKING IT EASIER TO SEE VEHICLES, PARTICULARLY AS THEY APPROACH FROM FAR AWAY." HOWEVER, DRLS DO NOT ENGAGE AUTOMATICALLY WHEN MY VEHICLE IS STARTED, AGAINST TO NHTSA AND IIHS DRLS DEFINITION. IN ORDER TO OPERATE DRLS IN MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2012, PARKING LIGHTS HAVE TO BE ENGAGED. CAR WOULD NOT START WHEN KEY TURNED. DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, BUT ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER OR EVEN CRANK. THE ONLY SOUND WAS A SLIGHT CLICK IN THE ENGINE WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED. OUR 2012 ELANTRA BEGAN MAKING KNOCKING SOUNDS DURING COLD STARTS. THE NOISE WAS FAINTER WHEN THE ENGINE WAS WARM BUT NEVER DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY. THE SOUND BECAME LOUDER WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLDER. WHEN I ORIGINALLY TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, I TOLD THEM THAT I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN THE TIMING BELT BUT WAS INFORMED THAT THE 2012 HAD A TIMING CHAIN AND NOT A BELT. WHEN THE NOISE BECAME TOO LOUD, I FINALLY TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK OF THE ENGINE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A DEFECTIVE CONNECTING ROD BEARING AND A NEW ENGINE WAS NECESSARY. I AM AWARE THAT THE 2011-2013 SONATA WAS RECALLED IN 2015 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THOUGHT THAT THE ELANTRA WAS EXEMPT.
HAD JUST HAD MY CAR IN FOR MY 20,000 MILE CHECK ONE WEEK AGO. HAD TIRES ROTATED AND ALL THE OTHER RECOMMENDED SERVICE. WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, GOOD WEATHER IN ATLANTA, GA, AND TIRE PRESSURE GAUGE WENT ON. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY (FORTUNATELY I WAS IN A LOCATION WHERE I COULD AND IT WAS EVENING WITH LESS TRAFFIC THAN THE NORM) TO FIND A STATION TO CHECK TIRES AND PUT IN AIR IN. ONE TIRE HAD A BUBBLE/BULGE IN THE SIDEWALL AND ALL FOUR TIRES WERE SHOWING A PRESSURE OF 29/30....DOWN THAT MUCH IN ONE WEEK WITH NO SIGNIFICANT WEATHER CHANGES, I HAVEN'T HIT ANY POTHOLES OR BUMPS, OR ANY REASON WHY THIS SHOULD BE THE CASE. VERY FRUSTRATED AND AFRAID TO DRIVE, ESPECIALLY AFTER READING ALL THE HORROR STORIES ABOUT THE WHEELS/RIMS/TIRES ON THIS CAR BEING THE WRONG SIZE FOR THE CAR. WE WERE ON VACATION IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS. WE HIKED FOR A COUPLE HOURS AND RETURNED TO THE CAR. I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY, NOTHING. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES, NOTHING. LIGHTS CAME ON BRIGHT, POWER WINDOWS WORKED, DASHBOARD LIGHTS BRIGHT. I TRIED TAKING IT IN AND OUT OF PARK, TRIED TURNING THE KEY DIFFERENT SPEEDS, NOTHING. IT STARTED FINE THE REST OF THE TIME WE WERE THERE. WHEN WE GOT BACK HOME, TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER. EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. HE SAID IF IT WAS WORKING FINE NOW, NOT MUCH THEY COULD DO. HE ALSO ADVISED ME THAT IF THEY DIAGNOSED IT FOR DAYS, FOUND THE PROBLEM, BUT IT WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING THAT DID NOT REQUIRE REPLACING A PART, THE ENTIRE LABOR COST WAS MINE TO PAY. THAT'S WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THE HYUNDAI 5 YEAR, 60K WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER LABOR AFTER 36K. OUCH! A BUYER BEWARE/READ THE FINE PRINT MOMENT. SO, I LEFT SINCE IT HADN'T HAPPENED IN A COUPLE WEEKS. THIS FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN MID-OCTOBER. THREE WEEKS AGO, AFTER 2 MONTHS, AROUND DEC 20TH, 2014, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. SAME THING. JUST DEAD. BATTERY FINE. EVERYTHING WORKING BUT THE CAR. WHEN RIDING THE VEHICLE AT 60 -70 MPH, AND HITTING A NORMAL BUMP/HOLE IN THE ROAD, THE STABILITY CONTROL MAKES VERY AGGRESSIVE ADJUSTMENTS IN THE REAR OF THE CAR AND MAKE YOU FEEL YOU ARE LOSING CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT SEEMED AS IF THE GEAR WOULD JAM ON SOMETHING AND AFTER A WHILE OF TRYING TO GET IT TO MOVE FORWARD IT WOULD ADVANCE TO THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION PERIODICALLY FAILS TO START. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. AT FIRST THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START ON OCCASION BUT HAS SINCE BEGAN HAVING STARTING ISSUES MORE FREQUENTLY. I CONTACTED MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD OF TWO POSSIBLE ISSUES REGARDING A STOP LAMP SWITCH AND A FAULTY STARTER. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY A PROBLEM. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI USA AND THEY WERE UNAWARE OF AN ISSUE REGARDING MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE AS THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE BUT THERE ARE RECALLS REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE BUT WITH OTHER VEHICLES. I FEEL THAT HYUNDAI IS NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS WITH THEIR WARRANTY AND I DO NOT KNOW ON A DAILY BASIS IF MY VEHICLE IS GOING TO START THE NEXT TIME I ATTEMPT IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE STARTED DOZENS OF TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS WITHOUT ISSUE. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE TO START HAS RECURRED TWICE MORE IN THE PAST FOUR DAYS. THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A BATTERY ISSUE. *TR

THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED IT NEW. AFTER RECOMMENDING A FUEL SYSTEM TREATMENT - WHICH WE HAD PREVIOUSLY UNDERGONE AT 40K - WE DECLINED. THE NET RESULT OF THIS VISIT WAS THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. AFTER EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM A FEW MORE TIMES (9/8,9/9,9/21, 9/23 ALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE CALLS), SOMETIMES BEING ABLE TO START THE CAR AFTER A FEW MINUTES - SOMETIMES NOT. WE FIND OURSELVES AT AN IMPASS WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE TELLING US THEY WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC WITHOUT CHARGING US THE FEE - EVEN THOUGH WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR I PAID IN EXCESS OF $1200 FOR THE 100000 BUMPER TO BUMPER EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
I LEFT HOME FOR A 1,000 MILE ROAD TRIP STARTING ON THE DATE SPECIFIED ABOVE. MILEAGE INDICATED ABOVE IS A CLOSE APPROXIMATION TO WHEN THE INCIDENT FIRST OCCURRED. ON THE FIRST DAY, I STOPPED FOR GASOLINE AT A STATION. WHEN I TRIED TO START THE CAR BACK UP, I HAD POWER TO EVERYTHING BUT MY CAR MADE NO ATTEMPT TO START. AFTER TRYING SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES, IT FINALLY STARTED AND RAN FINE. THIS HAPPENED FIVE TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF THE TRIP LASTED 8 DAYS. I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP TO LOOK IT OVER, AGAIN. I SAY "AGAIN" BECAUSE I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP LESS THAN 500 MILES PRIOR FOR WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE A RELATED ISSUE. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER WOULD NOT LEAVE THE "DRIVE" POSITION WHEN I STOPPED AT ONE POINT AND NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. I COULD NOT BECAUSE I COULD NOT PUT IT IN "PARK", GEAR SHIFT LEVER WAS STUCK IN "DRIVE". BACK TO THE "WON'T START" ISSUE - WIGGLING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER SEEMS TO HAVE HELPED ME START THE CAR WHEN IT PREVIOUSLY WOULD NOT. DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE STUCK AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER. *TR
I'VE HAD THE FOLLOWING ISSUES WITH THE 2012 ELANTRA: 1.) THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THIS ONLY HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY SO IT IS HARD TO PREDICT WHEN IT WILL OCCUR AND WHERE YOU WILL BE STRANDED. ALL INDICATOR LIGHTS WILL TURN ON BUT WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION ALL THE WAY NOTHING HAPPENS. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER SINCE IT STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE DEALER HAD NO IDEA HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR 3 WEEKS NOW AND STILL TRYING TO FIGURE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. 2.) THERE ARE ALSO INSTANCE WHERE THE ENGINE STARTS BUT THE GEAR GETS STUCK IN PARK AND CANNOT SWITCH TO OTHER GEAR. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND TRY TO RESTART. 3.) THE BATTERY LIGHT INDICATOR BRIEFLY LIGHTS UP AT 60 MPH. *TR
ENGINE WOULD NOT CRANK. LIGHTS,WINDOWS,RADIO,ETC. ALL WORKED. SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND CAR STARTED. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. *TR
SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, ON A SUNDAY, I GOT INTO MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE LOCAL KROGER AND TRIED TO START THE CAR. IT REFUSED TO START OR TURN OVER. IT DIDN'T MAKE A SOUND. THE LIGHTS, RADIO, ETC. WORKED FINE, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. I CALLED A FRIEND WHO CAME OVER AND JUMPED ME OFF. I THOUGHT THIS COULD BE RELATED TO MY BATTERY, BUT FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, I HAD NO PROBLEMS. THIS PAST SUNDAY, AUGUST 24, I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND IT GAVE A LITTLE HICCUP, AS IF IT WASN'T GOING TO START, BUT THEN IT STARTED ANYWAY. I MADE A SHORT TRIP INTO TOWN, STOPPED AT THE STORE, CAME BACK AND THE CAR STILL STARTED FINE. BUT THE NEXT MORNING, MONDAY, AUG. 25, IT WOULD NOT START AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. MY NEIGHBOR GAVE ME A JUMP-OFF - IT TOOK A COUPLE OF MINUTES, BUT FINALLY THE CAR STARTED. I ASSUMED THIS WAS DEFINITELY THE BATTERY, SO I HEADED TO AUTOZONE AND GOT A NEW BATTERY INSTALLED. SEVERAL DAYS PASSED, AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. ON THURSDAY MORNING, AUGUST 28, IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN. I TRIED REPEATEDLY, NO LUCK. I CALLED A FRIEND, WHO CAME OVER TO JUMP IT OFF. STILL WOULDN'T START. I CALLED HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY HAD IT TOWED TO PRIDE HYUNDAI, A DEALERSHIP IN BATESVILLE, MISS. I GOT A RIDE TO WORK AND, LATER, I GOT A CALL FROM PRIDE HYUNDAI. THEY SAID THE CAR STARTED JUST FINE. THEY ALSO REPORTED THAT THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID IT STARTED FOR HIM AS WELL. I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND THEY SAID THEY'D LOOK AT IT. HOURS LATER, I CALLED THEM BACK (SINCE IT WAS CLEAR THEY HAD FORGOTTEN TO CALL ME) AND THEY SAID THEY'D HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS. I ASKED THEM TO KEEP IT OVERNIGHT AND TRY IT AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING. THE LADY ON THE PHONE WENT OUT TO THE LOT AND CAME BACK - SHE SAID IT STARTED FINE FOR HER AND AGAIN SHE INSISTED THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. *TR
I PURCHASED 4 TIRES ON 6/14/2013, AND HAD TO REPLACE THEM ALL OF THREE OF THEM ON 8/11/2014. FOR BELT SEPARATION. THE COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR, IT WOULD NOT STAY ON THE ROAD. I CONTACTED BRIDGESTONE ON 8/20/2014, TO REPORT THE 3 FAULTY TIRES, AND THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN BACK WITH ME. I HAVE REACHED OUT SEVERAL TIMES TO THEM WITH NO REPLY. THEY GAVE ME A REFERENCE# AND THAT WAS IT. I DROVE APPROX.20,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. I WANT THEM TO LOOK IN TO THE TIRES TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT FAULTY. BUT I CAN NOT GET A RESPONSE FROM THEM. THE MAKE IS FUZION TOURING 91H. BY SENDING THIS EMAIL I HOPE SOMEONE WILL LOOK INTO THIS. I WOULD HATE TO THINK IF I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HWY. I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED , WORST YET THE OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD WOULD HAVE BEEN EFFECTED. I CAN NOT EXPRESS HOW SCARY THIS WAS FOR ME. *TR
