WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN NORMAL NON SLICK ROAD CONDITIONS, MY VEHICLES ESC LIGHT BEGAN TO BLINK. UNEXPECTEDLY, AND WITHOUT MY FOOT DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, MY VEHICLE DECELERATED FROM 55MPH TO 20MPH. THE FRONT LEFT TIRE CEASED TO ROTATE AND TORQUE WAS LOST TO THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE ESC SYSTEM AND DROVE HOME. THAT EVENING I RECEIVED THE NOTICE RECALL FOR EXACTLY THE ISSUE I HAD ENCOUNTERED. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TWO DAYS LATER TO SANSONE HYUNDAI WHERE THEY AGREED AFTER READING THE CAR'S COMPUTER THAT THE ESC ISSUE HAD INDEED OCCURRED. THE TECHNICIAN THEN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THEY "RESET THE COMPUTER AND THIS PROBABLY SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN". HE WENT ON TO EXPLAIN THERE IS NO CURRENT SOLUTION, AND I HAVE TO BE PATIENT. I APPRECIATE THE FACT A SOLUTION HAS NOT YET BEEN FOUND BUT, I AM NOW FEARFUL TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. I WAS UNBELIEVABLE LUCKY THAT THERE WERE NO DRIVER'S BEHIND ME AND THAT I WAS NEAR THE SHOULDER WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILED. IF THOSE LUCKY CONDITIONS HAD NOT BEEN PRESENT I COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I FEEL I SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROVIDED WITH A LOANER VEHICLE IN THE MEANTIME. I PURCHASED MY HYUNDAI BECAUSE I FELT THEY WERE SAFE, RELIABLE CARS WITH GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. MY CAR ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE THAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL WHICH ITSELF STATES THAT, "INAPPROPRIATE BRAKE APPLICATION TO ONE OR MORE WHEELS AND/OR REDUCED ENGINE TORQUE CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH". KNOWING THIS, HYUNDAI HAS SENT ME ON WAY IN A VEHICLE WHICH CAN "INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH". I NOW HAVE TO WAIT AND BE GENUINELY SCARED OF THE VEHICLE WHICH I RELY ON. I HAVE PATIENCE TO WAIT FOR A SOLUTION, BUT I NEED A SOLUTION FROM HYUNDAI NOW. NOT WHEN SOMEONE IS ABLE TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE IN THE VEHICLE.
MY CAR ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN WITHOUT ME PRESSING ON THE GAS RANDOMLY. SOME DAYS IT DRIVES NORMALLY AND OTHER DAYS I CAN FEEL THE CAR ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. IT WAS SO BAD 2 DAYS AGO THAT WHEN I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY IT WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT A RED LIGHT. I HAD BY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR WAS REVVING TO 5000 RPMS. I TOOK IT TO HYUNDAI WHO COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM BUT CHARGED ME $250 TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY.
THE ESC SYSTEM DID NOT HELP PREVENT AND MAY HAVE EVEN CAUSED MY CAR ACCIDENT. THERE HAS ALSO BEEN A RECALL ON MY YAW-RATE SENSOR, WHICH IS THE KEY COMPONENT TO THE ESC SYSTEM...UPDATED 05-19-16 *BF ON MARCH 2, 2016, HYUNDAI NATIONAL CUSTOMER CARE REFUSED THE CONSUMERS REQUEST TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TESTED IN ITS POST ACCIDENT CONDITION. ON MARCH 26, 2016, SOUTHERN STATES HYUNDAI OF RALEIGH REPLACED THE YAW-RATE SENSOR AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE. HYUNDAI SENT A LETTER TO THE CONSUMER, STATING THEY DID NOT BELIEVE THE YAW-RATE SENSOR CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT. UPDATED 06/13/16.*JB *TR
CAR WON'T START. AT FIRST, WE THOUGHT IT'S THE BATTERY SO WE GOT OUR BATTERY JUMP STARTER. BUT IT WASN'T THE CASE. LIGHTS AND ELECTRICAL WORKS BUT THE CAR STARTER WON'T TURN OVER. TOWED IT TO THE DEALER. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WENT TO DEALER TO CHECK IT AND THE CAR STARTED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. DEALER'S MECHANICS STILL HASN'T SEEN IT YET THAT DAY. THERE MIGHT BE SOME LOOSE WIRING OR INHIBITOR SWITCH PROBLEM.
2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA RANDOMLY WILL NOT START. WE REPLACED THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH AND ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AFFECTED BY WEATHER. IT HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALER TWICE, BUT SINCE IT STARTS WHEN IT IS THERE, THEY SAY THEY CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE CAN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. I WOULD SAY IN THE YEAR AND A HALF THAT I HAVE HAD THE CAR IT HAS STRANDED ME 4 TIMES AND NOT ON THE FIRST TURN OVER ANOTHER 15. I USUALLY TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND TRY AGAIN. AFTER A COUPLE TRIES IT USUALLY STARTS.
CAR WON'T START UNTIL I DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND HOLD AS I START THE VEHICLE.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V871000 - SAME SITUATION 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA - ENGINE BREAKS AUTOMATICALLY WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. CAR SEEMS TO BREAK (SLOW DOWN) IN BURSTS WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE EVEN ON ROADS WITH SPEEDS UNDER 40MPH. HAS BEEN A INTERMITTENT ISSUE SINCE JANUARY. DEALER AGREES IT IS AN EBS/ YAW SYSTEM PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT FIX IT WITH THE RECALL OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V871000, EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE PROBLEM MAY BE BIGGER THAN THE ORIGINAL SCOPE.
CAR JUST WOULD NOT START 2 TIMES IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS WITH NO WARNINGS. I GOT IT JUMPED BOTH TIMES, AND IT WAS OK. I HAD THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, AND STARTER CHECKED AND THEY WERE ALL OK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. CAR IS PARKED AND WHEN TRYING TO TURN ON IT WON'T START. HAPPENED FOUR TIMES THIS WEEK AND TODAY IT HAD A BAD/BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE ENGINE. LOOKS LIKE A FUSE WENT OUT.
CAR WAS PARKED AND WHEN TRYING TO TURN IT ON IT WON'T START AND GIVES ME ERROR "BATTERY DISCHARGE" IT HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES THIS WEEK. TODAY CAR HAD A BAD/BURNED ODOR COMING FROM THE ENGINE.
I AM LITERALLY SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN IN THE WINTER. ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2015, WE RECEIVED OUR FIRST STORM OF THE SEASON. I WAS DRIVING ON ALMOST ENTIRELY CLEAR ROADS UNTIL I WENT OVER AN OVERPASS THAT MUST HAVE HAD A THIN LAYER OF ICE ON IT. MY CAR BEGAN FISHTAILING SO BAD THAT I HAD TO USE BOTH LANES TO RECOVER. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS IN THE LANE NEXT TO ME, OR ONE OR BOTH WOULD BE SEVERELY INJURED. I IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN TO 40 MILES AN HOUR AND CONTINUED TO FISHTAIL OVER EVERY SINGLE OVERPASS UNTIL THE ROADS ACTUALLY HAD SOME PRECIPITATION ON THEM, AT WHICH TIME I COULDN'T GO OVER 40 MPH WITHOUT THE CAR SWAYING TO THE POINT OF NO RECOVERY. I HAVE GROWN UP IN WI AND MN, AND I HAVE DRIVEN ON SNOWY/ICY ROADS MY ENTIRE LIFE. I HAVE HAD SMALL NON-4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES (HONDA CIVIC HATCHBACKS) AND I HAVE NEVER, EVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS. CARS WERE PASSING ME GOING CLOSE TO THE SPEED LIMIT. I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD TO SLOW DOWN THAT MUCH IN ORDER TO REMAIN IN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT IN OUR FIRST SNOWFALL (I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR IN JULY OF 2015), I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE REAR END "SWAYING" EVERY TIME YOU GO OVER A BUMP OR TRY TO CHANGE LANES. IT FEELS LIKE IT'S JUST ABOUT TO SWERVE BUT THEN IT RECOVERS, BUT I DIDN'T EVER THINK IT WOULD GET THIS BAD. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M GOING TO DO THIS WINTER. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. I EVEN ADDED TWO SANDBAGS TO THE TRUNK TO TRY TO ADD SOME WEIGHT, TO NO AVAIL. THIS ISSUE HAS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEBODY IS INJURED SEVERELY OR WORSE. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW CLOSE I WAS TO ROLLING THIS VEHICLE ON MONDAY. THIS VEHICLE IS SIMPLY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN AREAS THAT HAVE THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF SNOW OR FREEZING CONDITIONS. HYUNDAI HAS TO BE MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON ROADS AT SPEEDS ANYWHERE FROM 25 - 65 MPH. HIGHWAYS OR CITY STREETS.
INTERMITTENT START FAILURES. CAR FAILS TO START SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. HAD THE BATTERY TESTED AND IT CHECKED OK. SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTER. THE SHIFTER SEEMS TO THINK THE CAR IS NOT IN PARK, BUT IS IS. SWITCHING IT BACK AND FORTH OUT OF PARK SOMETIMES WORKS, BUT NOT ALWAYS. VERY FRUSTRATING. UNRELIABLE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY "CORRECTED A GROUNDING ANOMALY". FAILED TO START AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. ONLINE REPORTS HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL IN SEEING HOW WIDESPREAD THIS PROBLEM IS. IF HYUNDAI DOESN'T RECALL THIS PROBLEM, THEIR RISING REPUTATION WILL BE DASHED. I WISH I HAD NOT BOUGHT THIS CAR.
WHEN DRIVING OVER A SPEED BUMP IN A MALL.,I HEARD A NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF CAR.LOOKED AT FRONT OF CAR DID NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE IT. IT MADE A FUNNY NOISE AND YOU COULD SMELL BURNING RUBBER AND SMOKE STARTED TO COME FROM FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL COMPARTMENT.CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND THE MECHANIC SAID LOOKS LIKE THE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE. I WAS WANDERING IF YOU HAVE HAD ANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS YEAR AS I KNOW THE 2011 HAD A FRACTURING PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS.THIS JUST HAPPENED TODAY 11-21-15 AND IS AT A REPAIR FACILITY TO BE LOOKED AT ON MONDAY WHEN THEY OPEN FOR BUSINESS.
WHEN DRIVING OVER A SPEED BUMP AT THE MALL I HEARD A NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. LOOKED AT FRONT OF CAR ,DID NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG,PROCEEDED TO DRIVE IT AND HEARD THE NOISE AGAIN AND THE SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER AND SMOKE COMING FROM DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL COMPARTMENT. CALLED TOW TRUCK AND THE MECHANIC SAID THE FRONT SPRING WAS BROKE.THIS HAPPENED ON 11-21-15. HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP.
WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. PER MECHANIC, THIS PART IS NOT AVAILABLE "AFTER MARKET" AND IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM HYUNDAI. FOR THIS REASON, THE MECHANIC BELIEVES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHICH IS WHY THE PART IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM HYUNDAI.
CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL FROM OVERNIGHT REST IN OUR DRIVEWAY. CALLED THE HYUNDAI ASSURANCE LINE, THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK FOR A BATTERY JUMP, TOW TRUCK DRIVER STARTED THE CAR WITHOUT A JUMP BY REPEATEDLY PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AS HE TURNED THE KEY. HE SAID IT LOOKED LIKE THE CAR WAS NOT GETTING ENOUGH GAS AND THAT HE'D SEEN THIS MANY TIMES BEFORE ON RUNS FOR ELANTRAS. RESEARCH SUGGESTS THIS IS THE 2ND LEADING CAUSE OF COMPLAINTS FOR THIS MODEL / YEAR. THANK YOU. *TR
ON NOVEMBER 8TH, 2016, SAINT PAUL, MN, MY CAR WOULD NOT START UP. NO WARNING SIGNALS CAME ON AND JUST MADE A "CLICKING" NOISE". I CALLED HYUNDAI'S ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WHEN THEY ARRIVED HE TOLD ME TO TRY TO START IT UP. THE CAR THEN CAME ON WHICH WAS APPROX. A 45 MINUTE WAIT. IN OCTOBER 2015- EAGAN, MN, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I FELT DIZZY, NAUSEOUS AND HAD A PANIC ATTACK. I TRIED PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP DESPITE STEPPING ON BREAKS, THE CAR KEPT PULLING TOWARD THE SIDE OF THE GRASS THAT WAS SURROUNDED WITH GRAVEL. I ENDED UP HITTING AND STOPPING AT A GUARDRAIL. THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WAS BLOWN AND ALONG THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER DOOR WAS SCRATCHED, THERE WAS ALSO SOME FRONT END DAMAGE WHICH GOT REPAIRED. IN APPROX. MARCH 2015- WEST SAINT PAUL, I JUST GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR LOST POWER. I STARTED IT UP, PRESSED ON THE GAS AND ENDED UP REAR ENDED THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME. IN 2014, MAPLEWOOD, MN,I WAS AT A RESTAURANT'S DRIVE-THRU AND MY CAR LOST ALL POWER AND STEERING FOR ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES. I CALLED HYUNDAI'S ROADSIDE'S ASSISTANCE TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. IN 2014, EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I CALLED HYUNDAI'S ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO REPORT THE INCIDENCE. ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR STARTED UP AND NO LONGER NEEDED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE'S TOWING SERVICE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V871000 (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,389.
MY CAR WAS SITTING AT MY APARTMENT. WENT TO GO TO THE STORE AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER NO MATTER MANY TIMES I WOULD TRY AND START IT. I HAD TO CALL MY DAD WHO TOLD ME TO HOLD GAS PEDAL DOWN AND START THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT WASN'T HAPPENING AT THAT MOMENT. CAR STARTS TO JERK WHILE DRIVING. STARTED OFF ONLY IN THE MORNINGS, THEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, IT JERKED AGAIN THIS TIME MORE AGGRESSIVE. HAVE TALKED WITH HYUNDAI 3 TIMES ABOUT THIS ISSUE, SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL THEY SEE IT HAPPENING THEMSELVES. I AM HAVING TO PRESS THE GAS HARD TO GO AT LEAST 50 MPH. YESTERDAY 10/19/2015. I STOP TO GET GAS. FULL MY TANK UP, GET IN THE CAR AND THE WON'T START AGAIN! PRESS MY FOOT ON THE GAS, CAR WON'T START. HAD TO CALL TRIPLE A AND THEY SAY MY BATTERY IS LOW. BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2013, SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS VEHICLE AND ALL I GET IS THEY HAVE TO SEE IT HAPPENING. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR TO THE SAME HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN SOUTH AUSTIN. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM CARMAX. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ELSE TO DO.
IT WAS BEAUTIFUL, DRY SUNNY DAY WHEN DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE(HALF PAVED ROAD HALF DIRT ROAD), ALL OF A SUDDEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. IT STAYED ON UNTIL 5 DAYS LATER, THE LIGHT FLICKERED THREE TIMES AND STAYED ILLUMINATED. A FEW TIME SITTING STILL, CAR IN THE PARK POSITION, CAR RUNNING THE AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD BE OFF BUT AS SOON AS YOU PUT IT INTO GEAR THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASH WOULD ILLUMINATE. TEN DAYS LATER THE LIGHT WENT OFF FOR 30 MINUTES(DRIVING A CITY STREET IN THE RAIN WITH WIND SHIELD WIPERS WERE ON) BUT THEN IT CAME BACK ON. WHEN THE MECHANIC RAN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON IT, NO ERROR MESSAGE CAME UP. HE TRIED TO RESET THE AIRBAGS BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE LIGHT IS STILL ON. IT IS VERY UNSETTLING NOT KNOWING IF THERE IS REALLY A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAGS OR IF IT IS A MALFUNCTION OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IN SOME WAY.
I PARKED MY CAR AT HOME AND SHUT IT OFF. I IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT IN ORDER TO ADJUST THE CAR'S POSITION, AND FOUND THAT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD COME ON, BUT NOT THE ENGINE. 3 DASH LIGHTS--ENGINE, BATTERY, AND I DON'T REMEMBER THE THIRD ONE--REMAINED LIT. TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING MONDAY (10/19), AND THEY REPLACED THE STARTER.
RIGHT FRONT AXLE BOLTS BECAME VERY LOOSE AT 39,000 AND THE AXLE COULD HAVE SEPARATED FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND OR WHEEL POTENTIALLY CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL AND BEING INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT. HYUNDAI SHOULD EITHER USE EFFECTIVE LOCK WASHERS OR LOCK TIGHT ON THE BOLTS TO PREVENT THEM FROM BACKING OUT OF THE AXLE WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE TRANSMISSION AND OR WHEEL. A RECALL SHOULD BE ORDERED. IF YOU GOOGLE THIS PROBLEM THERE IS A VIDEO ON THE WEB WHERE ANOTHER ELANTRA HAS THE VERY SAME PROBLEM. I BECAME AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BECAUSE MY ELANTRA STARTED MAKING A VERY NOT8ICEABLE POPPING SOUND WHEN YOU PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE OR DRIVE. THE BOLTS BECAME PROGRESSIVELY LOOSE TO THE POINT THAT WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN I WOULD TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR THE AXLE WOULD POP DUE TO LOOSENESS AND WHEN I PLACED MAY FOOT BACK ON THE ACCELERATOR IT WOULD POP. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW. WHEN I LOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THEY CHARGED ME $63.65 TO RE-TORQUE THE AXLE BOLTS THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BECOME LOOSE.
THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN ON WHEN PUSHING THE PUSH START. THIS KEEPS HAPPENING THIS IS NOT SAFE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED, MY SAFETY COULD BE IN JEOPARDY.
FAILURE TO START; CAR DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK AND IT PREVENTS THE CAR FROM STARTING, EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN PARK. CAR CANNOT BE TAKEN OUT OF PARK OR PUT BACK IN SOMETIMES AFTER IT IS STARTED AND IDLING. HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, VERY FRUSTRATING. HAVE BYPASSED THE SITUATION BY TAKING THE SAMLL CLIP FROM THE CENTER CONSOLE OFF, THEN DEPRESSING TRANSMISSION ENGAGER AND MOVING THE GEAR SHIFT INTO REVERSE AND THEN BACK INTO PARK. THE VEHICLE WILL THEN START. AFTER ALL THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN FOR THIS VERY SAME SITUATION, I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL HYUNDAI?
HIGHLY FRUSTRATING AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING SITUATION HYUNDAI HAS PUT ME IN. ON SEPTEMBER 11TH MY VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE REAR BY THE EXHAUST PIPE. PRIOR TO THIS MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT RICK CASE HYUNDAI 3 TIMES WITH ME COMPLAINING THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY THE 1ST TIME I WAS TOLD THERE ARE NO CODES SO WE HAVE TO WAIT TILL IT BREAKS, THE 2ND TIME I WAS TOLD NO CODES SORRY, AND THE THIRD TIME THEY ACTUALLY REPLACED A BROKEN PART THAT CONTROLS THE SHIFT TIMES IN THE TRANSMISSION. COULD SHOW THEM MY PROBLEM. I ASKED HYUNDAI CORPORATE TO DO AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND THE FIRE AND HELP ME RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. THEY WENT THROUGH THEIR 6 WEEK PROCESS AND THEN DENIED MY CLAIM SAYING IT WASN'T FOUND TO BE A MALFUNCTION OF ANY PARTS THAT CAUSED THE FIRE. I HAVE VIDEO OF WHERE THE FIRE STARTED, THE TRANSMISSION NOT WORKING, AND COUNTLESS PICTURES THAT SHOW THE FIRE OBVIOUSLY STARTED AT THE TAILPIPE DUE TO AN INCREASE IN TEMPERATURE BECAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. WHEN I ASK HYUNDAI FOR THE INFORMATION THAT LEAD TO THEIR CONCLUSION THEY SAY IT'S CONFIDENTIAL AND PROPRIETARY AND WILL NOT LET ME SEE IT. WHEN I TELL THEM THE TRANSMISSION IS STILL NOT WORKING AND EVERYTIME I DRIVE IT THERE IS A BURNING SMELL AND I'M SCARED FOR MY SAFETY AND LIFE DRIVING THIS CAR THEY JUST SAY HYUNDAIS DECISION IS FINAL AND THEY WON'T HONOR MY WARRANTY ON THE CAR. THEY CLAIM IT'S PERFECTLY SAFE TO DRIVE AND OPERATING AS INTENDED AND DESIGNED. I FEEL THEY ARE COVERING SOMETHINGS UP OR NEVER ACTUALLY INVESTIGATED THIS INCIDENT WHICH IS WHY THEY WON'T RELEASE INFORMATION. DURING THE FIRE MALFUNCTIONS IN THE HEAD SHIELD AND TAILLIGHT WIRING WERE DISCOVERED MAKING FOR 4 POSSIBLE LIFE THREATENING DEFECTS MY CAR WAS PARKED AT WORK IN MY PARKING SPACE WHEN THE SMOKE AND FIRE STARTED.

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK, BACK, RIGHT ANKLE, LEFT KNEE, AND LEFT RING FINGER INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
WHILE THE VEHINCLE BEING IN PARK AND TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE IT DID NOT START. IT DOES SOME CLICKING AND AFTER TURNING ON AND OFF THE KEY THE VEHICLE STARTS. IT HAS AGGRAVATED MORE OVER THE COURSE OF THESE PAST TWO WEEKS AND ITS DOING IT ALMOST EVERY OTHER TIME I TRY TO START THE ENGINE. THE DEALER HAS CHECKED THE BATTERY AND ALSO TAKEN IT TO AUTOZONE AND CONFIRMED THE BATTERY IS OK BUT THE VECHILE STILL DOES NOT START. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THIS COMING 9/21/15 FOR THE DEALER TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT BUT REVIEWING ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPLAINTS IT SEEMS THAT THERE IS A COMMON TREND OF AFFECTED VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. HAVE NOT SEEN THE EXPERIENCE OF THE VEHILCE STALLING ON ME DURING THE HIGHWAY BUT BECAUSE OF THE DAILY TRAFFIC I TAKE TO COMMUTE HOME-WORK I JUST HOPE I DONT GET INTO A SITUATION WHERE MY SAFETY GETS COMPROMISED. MY CAR HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH STARTING. THE PROBLEM ISN'T ALL THE TIME. I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE TRIGGER IS, BUT ONE OR TWICE A WEEK, IT WON'T START. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY, BUT IT'S NOT. I CHANGED IT AND STILL GIVING ME ISSUES. I READ ONLINE AND FOUND THAT IT MIGHT BE THE RANGE SWITCH BECAUSE PEOPLE THAT HAS THIS ISSUE HAD THEIR RANGE SWITCH REPLACED AND NO MORE ISSUE. BEFORE THEY REPLACED THE RANGE SWITCH, THEY RECOMMENDED TO PUT IN "N" POSITION BEFORE START, WHICH I DID AND IT WORKED FOR A WHILE. NOW, I HAVE TO PUT THE E-BRAKES ON BEFORE IT CRANKS. THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I HAVE ISSUES WITH LOCKING MY CAR. NEITHER THE ELECTRONIC PUSH BUTTON ON THE DOOR NOR REMOTE WORKS. I HAD TO MANUAL LOCK IT WITH THE KEY. YESTERDAY, AUGUST 17, 2015, I PARKED AT MY APT COMPLEX TO GET MY MAIL, TURNED CAR OFF COMPLETELY, I WAS LITERALLY OUT OF MY CAR FOR 40 SECONDS. I GOT BACK IN STARTED IT UP, AND NOTHING. IT WOULD NOT EVEN TURN OVER, NO SOUNDS, NO CLICKS, JUST DEAD SILENCE. ALL OF THE PANEL LIGHTS WERE LIT, HOWEVER, AND THE AIR VENTS WERE BLOWING AIR FROM THE FAN, THE RADIO TURNED ON, BUT NOT THE ENGINE. THE BATTERY WAS NEWLY INSTALLED ON OCTOBER 2, 2015 WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED. I USED MY HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, SOMEONE ARRIVED IN A NORMAL VEHICLE TO JUMP START MY CAR. FIRST TRY, IT STARTED UP JUST FINE. HE WAS TRYING TO SELL ME A NEW BATTERY FOR $150, INDICATING THAT BECAUSE I LIVE IN ARIZONA NOW, THE HEAT DOES STRANGE THINGS TO CARS. I DIDN'T TAKE THE OFFER. I LET THE CAR RUN WHILE I WAS PARKED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, THEN DROVE TO THE CARPORT WHERE I PARK MY CAR NORMALLY IN MY APT COMPLEX. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, AND HESITANTLY TRIED TO START IT AGAIN, AND TO NO AVAIL. NOTHING AGAIN. IT WOULDN'T START. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND A FEW SITES WHERE OTHERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. ONE PERSON MENTIONED TO TURN THE IGNITION TO ACC AND THROW THE SHIFTER INTO NEUTRAL, WHICH I DID, AND THEN MAGICALLY MY CAR STARTED UP PERFECTLY FINE. I TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND ON AGAIN ABOUT 5 MORE TIMES, AND IT DID JUST FINE, NO STALLING. SINCE I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE THERE HAVE BEEN MANY TIMES (AT LEAST 20+) THAT IT WON'T START UP ON THE FIRST TRY, BUT SECONDS LATER I'LL RETRY THE IGNITION, AND IT'LL START UP, BUT IT SOUNDS AS IF IT'S GOING TO CONK OUT. LIKE IT'S BARELY HANGING ON. I'VE HAD NO OTHER ISSUES WITH MY CAR BESIDES THIS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE VEHICLE REACHED 50,000 MILES. ALL MAINTENANCE WORK HAS BEEN DONE. NOW AT 77,986 RUNS LIKE A GRASS CUTTER. JUST RUNS ROUGH.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A DRY SOLID ROAD WITH NO OBSTRUCTIONS OR POTHOLES. WHEN I REALIZED THAT IT WAS NOT CHANGING, I TURNED THE ESC OFF AND IT WENT BACK TO DRIVING NORMALLY ALMOST INSTANTLY. ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD I FIGURED I WOULD TRY TO TURN IT BACK ON BECAUSE I REMEMBER BEING TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP TO LEAVE IT ON. A FEW SECONDS PASSED AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY WHEELS LOCKED UP AND I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS MY CAR STARTED TO TURN SIDEWAYS. I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE ESC BUTTON AND IT CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY, HOWEVER, IT FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO READJUST AFTER HAVING THE WHEELS LOCKED UP. ALSO, WHEN WE HAD THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT WITH ONE OF OUR OWN MECHANICS, AND NOT THE DEALERSHIP'S MECHANICS, HE PUT IT UP ON THE LIFT AND COULD HARDLY TURN THE WHEELS. HE COMMENTED THAT THE STEERING WAS AS TIGHT AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS A TRUCK!! THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG WITH THE STEERING THAT COULD EASILY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT.

THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE TRACED OR IDENTIFIED USING STATE OF THE ART DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, THUS, THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM REMAINS A MYSTERY. AGAIN, AS LONG AS THE SOURCE OF THE AIRBAG PROBLEM REMAINS UNDETECTED THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE CORRECTED AND MY VULNERABILITY TO BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED IS A VIABLE SPECTER THAT WILL NO DOUBT BE REALIZED IN THE EVENT I EXPERIENCE THE MISFORTUNE OF A VEHICLE TO VEHICLE COLLISION.
2012 ELANTRA LIMITED FAILS TO START WHEN IN PARK. BATTERY IS FINE, ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IS WORKING. ENGINE DOES NOT CRANK WHEN THE PUSH TO START BUTTON IS PRESSED. I NOTICED THAT THE ISSUE IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY LATELY. IF SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS.

I HAVE ADDED 70 POUNDS OF WEIGHT IN THE TRUNK AND STILL IT DOES NOT HELP AT ALL. I HAVE READ THAT IN THE SNOW THE PROBLEM IS TEN TIMES WORSE. I LIVE IN A STATE WHERE WE GET PLENTY OF SNOW AND I DREAD THE THOUGHT OF HAVING TO DRIVE THAT CAR DURING THAT TIME. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED I DON'T EVEN HAVE THE WORDS TO EXPRESS HOW UPSET THAT I AM.

LEFT TAIL/BRAKE LIGHT IS MALFUNCTIONING. WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON, THE TAIL LIGHT IS ON; HOWEVER, THAT SAME LIGHT IS ALSO THE BRAKE LIGHT, AND WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED, THE LIGHT WILL NOT ILLUMINATE.
