2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA LIMITED HAS 117,400 MILES ON IT AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WON'T GO OFF ANYMORE AFTER STARTING THE IGNITION.
BOTH REAR CALIPERS WERE SUBSTANTIALLY FROZEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AUTO HAS 20,000 MILES.
RANDOM NO START. PUSH BUTTON START WILL JUST MAKE ONE CLICK SOUND AND NOT START (THIS IS NOT A LOW BATTERY CLICKING SOUND). AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS, THE ENGINE WILL START. ONE TIME IT TOOK OVER 10 MINUTES OF PUSHING THE START BUTTON ON AND OFF TO FINALLY GET IT TO START. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT RANDOM TIMES. IT WILL START FINE FOR MONTHS AND THEN JUST RANDOMLY NOT START. IT HAPPENED IN THE PAST AN JUST STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN ABOUT A WEEK AGO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE PAD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,500.
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS EXPERIENCES WHERE THE VEHICLE WONT START. I WENT TO GET GAS ONE MORNING AND AFTER I PUMPED THE GAS AND GOT IN TO DRIVE OFF MY CAR WOULDN'T START. I WAITED FOR AAA AND WHILE WAITING TRIED TURNING OVER THE KEY AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. LIKE I SAID THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT TEN TO TWELVE OR MORE TIMES. I RECENTLY CHANGED THE BATTERY BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES. SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING REGARDING THIS COMPLAINT AS I SEE IT IS SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN COMPLAINED ABOUT NUMEROUS TIMES.
AT APPROX. 70,000 MILES: SRS AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES INTERMITTENTLY, THEN PROGRESSIVELY STEADY ILLUMINATION WHILE DRIVING. AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AFTER TIGHT RIGHT-HAND TURNS, AT ANY SPEED, THEN MAY TURN OFF AGAIN WHEN COMPLETING A LEFT-HAND TURN. OVER TIME, LIGHT STAYS ON FOR MOST OF DRIVING TIME. BROUGHT INTO DEALERSHIP; DIAGNOSTICS PERFORMED. THROWING DTC CODE B148100 DRIVER AIRBAG RESISTANCE TOO HIGH 2ND STAGE. TECHNICIAN SAID CAR NEEDS REPLACEMENT OF BOTH CLOCK SPRING AND DRIVER AIRBAG. NO COVERAGE ON WARRANTY (2ND OWNER PLUS FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRES AT 60K MILES). AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF COLLISION
2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO START WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PLACED IN NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO START IT. ACCORDING WITH NUMEROUS REVIEWS THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE INHIBITOR SWITCH (RANGE SWITCH).
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. COSTS $100 JUST FOR A DIAGNOSTIC, ON TOP OF ABOUT $400 FOR REPAIR ACCORDING TO MULTIPLE SOURCES WITH THE SAME ISSUE.
AFTER OUT OF WARRANTY LIKE 1 MONTHS OR SO THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON I DO A RESEARCH ONLINE A LOT OF THE ELANTRA OWNER HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AFTER OUT OF WARRANTY SAME ISSUES COME OUT --AIRBAG LIGHT ON WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER THEY CHANGER HUNDREDS TO JUST TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC. HYNDAI HAS SUCH A GOOD REPUTATION, SOMETHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH SAFETY LIKE THIS SHOULD BE COVERED FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS, HARD TO BELIEVE AFTER 4 YEARS SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE.
AIR BAG LIGHT COMING ON IN 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA, TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC DONE WAS TOLD IT WAS THE CLOCK SPRING (IN THE STEERING COLUMN) WAS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING. WAS TOLD IF INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY PERIOD.
VEHICLE STATIONARY. SHIFTER IN "PARK". ATTEMPTED TO START VEHICLE. TURNED KEY IN IGNITION - CAR DID NOT START. RADIO, LIGHTS, AIR AND ALL OTHER PERIPHERALS STARTED AND FUNCTIONED APPROPRIATELY. TRIED TO "JUMP" VEHICLE USING TWO DIFFERENT JUMPER-CABLE SETS. HAD BATTERY TESTED - OEM BATTERY, 4 YEARS OLD, RATED AT 550 AND FUNCTIONING AT 542 - GOOD BATTERY, NO NEED FOR REPLACEMENT. POPPED OUT THE SHIFT LOCK INSERT. INSERTED FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER TO DEPRESS THE BUTTON. PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL. PUT KEY IN IGNITION, TURNED TO START - CAR STARTED AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG. DROVE FOR ABOUT 30 MINTUTES. STOPPED AT A STORE. ATTEMPTED TO START VEHICLE AS NORMAL - VEHICLE STARTED FINE. PARKED VEHICLE IN DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT. ATTEMPTED TO START VEHICLE TO GO TO WORK - VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. REPEATED THE SAME PROCESS FROM THE PREVIOUS TIME IT WOULDN'T START AND WAS SUCESSFUL. HAVE A VIDEO SHOWING THE SHIFTER GOING THROUGH ALL GEARS - WHEN PUT INTO "PARK" THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER COMPLETELY GO OUT AND THEN EVENTUALLY FLICKER BACK ON. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE THE VIDEO, AS A PICTURE WOULD NOT SHOW THE ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT WAS PUMPING AIR INTO THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE VIA THE VEHICLE'S TIRE AIR PUMP SYSTEM AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TURNED ON WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE DEALER (TEXOMA HYUNDAI, 2500 TEXOMA PKWY, SHERMAN, TX 75090, (903) 892-0999) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS OPENED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS STUCK ON. WILL BE TAKING TO A DEALER HOWEVER HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM ONLINE. THE LIGHT WILL COME ON AS USUAL WHEN STARTING, GO OFF AFTER 6 SECONDS THEN STAY ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING OR GO OFF AND ON.
BIG PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT COIL SPRING. MINE BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE NEW TIRE I HAD INSTALLED THIS YEAR. THE SPRING BROKE IN HALF. I WAS GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP LEAVING A BASEBALL STADIUM WHEN ALL THIS OCCURRED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE BRAKED INDEPENDENTLY AND CAUSED THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR TO ILLUMINATE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE BRAKES SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V871000 (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
ALL OF THE ISSUES I AM HAVING APPEAR TO BE INVOLVED WITH THE COMPONENTS OF/ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO MY STEERING WHEEL. THE RED AIRBAG "ERROR" LIGHT CAME ON (INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST) ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD APPROX 64K MILES ON IT. OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, THE HORN HAS STOPPED WORKING (ANOTHER POTENTIALLY LARGE SAFETY ISSUE), AND THE BUTTONS THAT CONTROL THE UPWARD VOLUME AND RADIO STATION BROWSING HAVE BEEN WAVERING BETWEEN WORKING SOMETIMES AND NOT WORKING AT ALL. I DID SOME RESEARCH ABOUT THE AIRBAG AND HORN PROBLEMS, AND THERE WERE MANY STORIES FROM OTHER OWNERS OF HYUNDAI ELANTRAS OF VARIOUS YEARS WITH THE SAME ISSUES. IN ADDITION, THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH DEALERS SOUNDED VERY MUCH LIKE MINE IN THAT THEY (THE DEALER(S)) WANT TO CHARGE A SUM OF MONEY TO FIRST INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND THEN CHARGE FOR THE REPAIR(S). BECAUSE THE AIRBAG AND HORN PROBLEMS ARE POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS, I FELT THE NEED TO REPORT THESE CONCERNS. I AM ATTACHING A PICTURE THAT I TOOK WITH MY CELL PHONE ON 8/17/16 FOR REFERENCE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE CLOCK SPRING. TOTAL COST $429.75. *TR
VEHICLE WONT START AT TIMES. THIS HAPPENED WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND HYUNDAI CHANGED THE INHIBITOR SWITCH. RECENTLY STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM OF IT NOT STARTING. DEALER SHOWED ME WHERE THE RESET IS SO I WAS ABLE TO START IT AND BRING IT TO THE DEALER. AGAIN THEY CHANGED THE INHIBITOR SWITCH. I WAS TOLD THEY CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THE SWITCH AND HOPEFULLY I WON'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN. HYUNDAI PAID FOR THE PART BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR LABOR. I'M SURE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM.
INTERMITTENTLY, MY CAR DOES NOT START. I TURN THE KEY AND NOTHING HAPPENS. I TRY IT AGAIN. NOTHING. I TRY IT AGAIN AND IT STARTS. IT HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WAS SITTING OVERNIGHT IN MY GARAGE. IT HAPPENED AFTER I WAS IN A STORE FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES. IT HAPPENED AFTER I WAS IN ANOTHER LOCATION FOR 2 HOURS. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER ABOUT A YEAR AGO WHEN IT HAPPENED AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG BECAUSE IT DIDN'T DO IT FOR THEM. (OF COURSE, IT DIDN'T!) THEN, AFTER ANOTHER COUPLE OF TIMES OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN, I RESEARCHED AND FOUND IT WAS PROBABLY SOME KIND OF SWITCH. I TOLD THAT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED SOMETHING WHICH SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. NOW, ALL OF A SUDDEN, IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR FOR FEAR I WILL BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE UNSAFE ONE DAY.
MY ELANTRA LIMITED 2012 UNLOCK MY DOORS OR START THE CAR UNLESS I PUT THE KEY UP TO THE START BUTTON. I DON'T HAVEAN IGNITION MY CAR ONLY STARTS WITH A PUSH BUTTON,BOTH KEY FABS WON'T WORK, I'VE RESEARCHED AND ALOT IF CUSTOMER HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT THIS HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES SOMEONE MENTIONED THE HAD RANGE SHAFT OR SOMETHING REPLACE AND IT WORKS BUT MANY PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT A WEEK AGO FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHILE AT A DRIVE-THRU WINDOW AND WENT OFF. DRIVING DOWN A 45 MPH ROAD THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND WENT OFF JUST AS QUICKLY. CALLED THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. LIGHT CONTINUED TO GO ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN AND EVEN CAME ON WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T "DUPLICATE" THE PROBLEM SO THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS CAUSING THE LIGHT TO GO ON AND OFF. HAS BEEN DOING IT EVERYDAY SINCE I LEFT THE DEALER. I AM WAITING ON A LOANER FROM THEM SO THEY CAN KEEP THE CAR FOR LONGER THAN A COUPLE OF HOURS. HAVE TO SAY I DON'T FEEL REAL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT GOING ON AND OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING.

THE GEAR SHIFTER WOULD NOT HELP THE VEHICLE START AND HAD TO BE PUSHED IN ORDER TO START. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE DETAILS OF THE REPAIR COULD NOT BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
DASHBOARD AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. THE LIGHT STAYS ON FOR A FEW MINUTES, TURNS OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES, AND APPEARS TO HAPPEN AT RANDOM.
FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING BROKE AFTER GOING OVER A POTHOLE AT VERY LOW SPEED (ABOUT 15MPH). I'VE RECENTLY LEARNED THAT MANY 2011 ELANTRAS IN SALT BELT STATES/AREAS HAD A RECALL ON FRONT COIL SPRINGS AFTER SIMILAR ISSUES. I'M CONCERNED THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS IN MY YEAR MAKE/MODEL (2012 ELANTRA, ALSO IN A SALT BELT STATE) HAS THE SAME ISSUE AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR A RECALL.
DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE 2012 ELANTRA SUSPENSION/REAR END, THE REAR WHEEL TIRES ARE WORN OUT WELL BEFORE EXPECTATION. PURCHASED THE CAR NEW AND AFTER 20K MILES DISCOVERED SIGNIFICANT WEAR ON THE REAR TIRES...ESPECIALLY THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE PROBLEM. REPLACED ALL TIRES, AND AFTER ONLY 16K MILES THE REAR TIRES AGAIN NEED REPLACEMENT. FRONT TIRES LOOK LIKE NEW. THE TIRES ARE LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD. AGAIN, STILL THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE PROBLEM. WENT TO TIRE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THE TIRES BUT THE FACT THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION CANNOT BE ADJUSTED FOR ALIGNMENT. IT IS FIXED BY HYUNDAI AT A -1.50 CAMBER...WHICH APPARENTLY CAUSES THE TIRES TO WARE OUT QUICKLY. I NOW AGREE THAT IT A CAR PROBLEM AND CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE REP SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE (WHICH I FIND DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE) AND REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE PUSHING IT BACK ON THE TIRE MANUFACTURER. THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER STATED THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT COULD NOTHING TO RESOLVE IT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW WHICH HYUNDAI IS NOT READY OR WILLING TO ADDRESS.

A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE COIL BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE CAUSING A BLOW OUT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A HIGHWAY. TERRIFIED BECAUSE THE THE SMOKE AND THE INABILITY TO STEER THE CAR I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET ACROSS THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, AND HAVE ALWAYS SERVICED MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE COIL SPRING BROKE ON MAY 27TH AND THE DEALERSHIP IS HAVING DIFFICULTY LOCATING A REPLACEMENT FOR THE COIL SPRING. I AM TOLD THAT THEY COULD POSSIBLY HAVE ONE BY JUNE 8TH. THIS FACT ALONE TELLS ME THAT MY CAR IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE. I AM INSISTING THAT THEY REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE AS WELL BECAUSE I AM CERTAIN THAT IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THAT COIL ALSO BREAKS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT HYUNDAI WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF REPLACING THE SECOND COIL SPRING AS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND STARTED A GOOD FAITH REQUEST AND THEY ARE REVIEWING TO SEE IF THEY WILL COVER THE COST OF REPLACING THE PASSENGER SIDE. HYUNDAI HAD A COIL SPRING RECALL ON 2012 ELANTRA VEHICLES FOR ALL CARS PRODUCED PRIOR TO 3/31/2011. MY CAR WAS PRODUCED ON 6/9/2011 JUST MISSING THE RECALL CUT OFF DATE. OBVIOUSLY GIVEN WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR THEY NEED TO EXTEND THAT CUT OFF DATE. I AM VERY LUCKY THAT MY BLOW OUT DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. MY DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN VERY GOOD DURING THIS ORDEAL AND HAS PROVIDED ME WITH A LOANER CAR.

HAVE A TICKING SOUND IN ENGINE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME $62.00 TO LOOK AT IT. TOOK AROUND 45 MINS. SERVICE PERSON CAME AND TOLD ME IT SOUNDED LIKE A PISTON SLAP . WITH FURTHER LOOK AT THE ENGINE THEY SAID I NEED A NEW ENGINE. SAY WHAT! WILL I LOOKED ON LINE AND YOUTUBE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. WENT TO A WEB SIGHT ABOUT COMPLAINTS FOUND A LOT OF THEM ABOUT TICKING . CALLED AND ASKED IF IT WAS A SHORT, LONG OR CREAT ENGINE. TO ME THE SHORT BLOCK NEED REPLACED. CALLED NEXT DAY AND TOLD ME THAT ENGINE WAS ON HOLD. HYUNDAI WANTED THEM TO TAKE PICTURES AND SEND THEM TO CORPORATE OFFICE. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY FIND OUT WHAT HYUNDAI WANTS TO DO. OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS MY ELANTRA HAS STALLED IMMEDIATELY UPON STARTING. IT DOESNT MATTER IF THE ENGINE IS HOT OR COLD. JUST FILLED UP WITH GAS OR ANYWHERE IN BETWEEN. THE PROBLEM IS VERY INTERMITTENT. USUALLY IT WOULD THEN START ON THE 2ND OR 3RD TRY BUT HAS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS LEFT ME STRANDED REQUIRING A TOW. THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT UNLESS THEY CAN REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. IVE HAD THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND ALL NEW SPARK PLUGS, BUT ITS STILL ACTING UP. I DONT WANT TO KEEP THROWING MONEY AT IT GUESSING WHAT COULD BE WRONG. ON THAT DATE, THE ODOMETER READING WAS: 53,768. PRIOR TO HAVING THIS RE-CALIBRATION I HAD EXPERIENCED NO NOTICEABLE ISSUES REGARDING THE BRAKING SYSTEM. AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALER, ON SIX (X6) SEPARATE OCCASIONS, ONE OF THE BAKES HAS INDEPENDENTLY LOCKED UP UPON TRANSITIONING FROM SMOOTH TO ROUGH SURFACES, GOING OVER A MANHOLE AND/OR DISSIMILAR ROAD MATERIALS (SUCH AS BLACKTOP TO CEMENT BRIDGE, OR ONTO A SERRATED METAL BRIDGE MATERIAL). THIS HAS BEEN COMPLETELY RANDOM IN OCCURRENCE, ON THE HIGHWAY OR TYPICAL CITY STREET, BUT DOES SEEM TO BE RELATED TO BRAKING OR SLOWING DOWN IN GENERAL AS THAT IS WHEN IT IS NOTICED, EXCEPT THAT ONE WHEEL BRAKE LOCKS - CAUSING THE US (THE DRIVERS) TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION AS THE CAR SUDDENLY WILL VEER TO ONE DIRECTION OR ANOTHER UNEXPECTEDLY INSTEAD OF THE INTENDED SLOW-DOWN. OUR VEHICLE IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE PRODUCTION WINDOW THAT APPLIES TO HYUNDAI RECALL 133 REGARDING FRACTURED COIL SPRINGS. OUR RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE, RESULTING IN THE PUNCTURING OF THE TIRE. BOTH US AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER OF THE VEHICLE LIVE AND HAVE USED THE VEHICLE IN THE DEFINED SNOW/SALT REGION. THE VEHICLE IMPACTED A POTHOLE. IMMEDIATE INSPECTION SHOWED NO DAMAGE TO TIRE OR WHEEL. DRIVER CONTINUED ON TO WORK, PARKED, AND AT THE END OF THE WORKDAY BEGAN TO DRIVE HOME. AFTER TURNING A CORNER, AN AUDIBLE "GRINDING" WAS NOTED, AND DRIVER STOPPED, LOOKING UNDER THE VEHICLE FOR LODGED DEBRIS. SECOND MOTORIST STOPPED TO ASSIST, AND AN ATTEMPT TO MOVE THE VEHICLE WAS MADE, AT WHICH POINT IT WAS NOTED THAT THE SUSPENSION WAS "OFF", AND THEY BELIEVED A PORTION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS RESTING ON THE TIRE. DRIVER PROCEEDED TO ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROADWAY, AND THE TURNING OF THE VEHICLE RESULTED IN THE FRACTURED COIL SPRING COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE, LACERATING IT. RECALL 133 COVERS MODELS MANUFACTURED THROUGH MARCH 31, 2011. OUR MANUFACTURE DATE IS JUNE 20, 2011.
WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR GETS STUCK BETWEEN 25 AND 40 MPH. IT WONT PROCEED TO THE NEXT GEAR. I HAVE TO LAY OFF THE GAS, LET IT DROP BACK DOWN AND HOPE THAT IT WORKS THE NEXT TIME I ACCELERATE. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IS NOT LOW. THE CAR IS IN MOTION WHILE THIS ISSUE HAPPENS.
BOTH ORIGINAL COIL SPRINGS OF THIS VEHICLE HAVE SNAPPED DUE TO CORROSION AND COLD WEATHER CLIMATE WITHIN A YEAR OF THE OTHER. HYUNDAI WILL NOT INCLUDE IN THE RECALL BECAUSE IT IS 2012 VEHICLE. THE ISSUE IS THE SAME AS THE 2011 COIL SPRING FAILURES. THIS RECALL NEEDS EXTENDED TO THE 2012 VEHICLES AS WELL.
RE: NHTSA 15V871000 BASED ON THE HYUNDAI SAFETY RECALL, I WENT TO TWO DEALERSHIPS AND STILL HAVE A GLOWING ESC DASH LIGHT AND AN UNRESOLVED SAFETY PROBLEM. EACH DID A FREE "CALIBRATION" OF A "STEERING" SENSOR AND TOLD ME A "YAW" SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE FOR OVER $1200. THE NHTSA REMEDY SAID "DEALERS WILL VERIFY THE PROPER OPERATION OF THE ESC SENSORS .... FREE OF CHARGE". PLEASE NOTE "SENSORS" IS PLURAL. SURELY IT WAS NOT THE NHTSA'S INTENTION TO HAVE HYUNDAI OPERATE A "BAIT AND SWITCH" BY DOING A FREE "CALIBRATION" ON ONE SENSOR AND CHARGING OVER $1200 TO REPLACE THE OTHER. SUNROOF SHATTERING: WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY IN VIRGINIA ON 3/25/16 I HEARD A CRACK, POP, AND THEN SHATTERING. PIECES OF GLASS COULD BE HEARD SLIDING OVER THE TOP OF THE CAR AND SEEN IN THE BACK WINDOW. NO ITEM WAS SEEN INSIDE OF THE CAR TO SUGGEST AN OUTSIDE OBJECT BREAKING THE GLASS. I DROPPED OFF THE CAR AT THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN WHITE FLINT.

MY 2012 ELANTRA LTD EDITION HAS A KEYLESS ENTRY AND PUSH BUTTON TO START. RECENTLY I AM HAVING PROBLEM TO OPEN THE DOORS OR START THE CARS. SOMETIMES IT STARTS THE ENGINE AND SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. THE DEALERS CLAIM THAT THIS IS CAUSED AS THE ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST "IDLES" WHEN THE SENSORS SAY THE CAR IS GOING STRAIGHT, HOWEVER, WE ALL KNOW SMALL CORRECTIONS ARE REQUIRED ON STRAIGHT ROADS. VERY SCARY WHEN YOU HAVE TO MOMENTARILY FIGHT YOUR STEERING TO CORRECT FOR A POTHOLE OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT.

THE VEHICLE HAS ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN TWICE NOW -- TODAY AND ABOUT A MONTH AGO. BOTH OCCURRENCES WERE EXACTLY THE SAME. THEY WERE WHILE PARKING IN MY OFFICE'S PARKING LOT AFTER DRIVING 20-30 MINUTES ON THE HIGHWAY. AS SOON AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE IT WAS IF I WAS PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT I WAS NOT. WHEN I STOPPED AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK THE RPM SHOT ALL THE WAY UP AND ENGINE WAS REVVING AS IF I HAD MY FOOT ALL THE WAY DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS DID NOT STOP UNTIL I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I THEN RESTART THE CAR AND IT IS NOT HAPPENING. THEN, WITH THE CAR STILL IN PARK, I GENTLY TAP ON THE GAS AND IT STARTS AGAIN. THE GAS PEDAL DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE PHYSICALLY STUCK. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER I START THE CAR AND TRY TAPPING ON THE GAS AND CANNOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I SEE THESE COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO OWN UP AND ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS HURT, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY.
