A KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE THAT INCREASES IN FREQUENCY AS THE ENGINE RPM INCREASES. REDUCED POWER AND/OR HESITATION AND VIBRATION. IN MOTION THE KNOCKING COMES FROM THE ENGINE AND WHEN STOPPED IT HESITATION AND VIBRATE
ENGINE FAILURE AFTER 33,000 MILES. HYUNDAI STATES IT WILL TAKES 6 TO 8 MONTHS TO FIX. ALL OF THESE ENGINES ARE ON BACK ORDER. THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING IF YOU CANT GET PARTS. MY DEALER HAS 40 ELANTRAS WAITING FOR ENGINES. JUST GUESS HOW MANY THEY ARE WAITING FOR NATION WIDE.
POSSIBLE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR FAILURE. CAR WILL NOT START PROPERLY OR STALLS AFTER STARTING AND SHIFTING GEARS.HAPPENS EVERY FEW MONTHS. NEW BATTERY, SPARK PLUGS AND TUNE UP COMPLETED JULY 2018.NO ALTERNATOR/STARTER ISSUES NOTED AFTER MECHANICAL TESTING.
ENGINE TICKING NOISE. DEALER SAID METAL SHAVINGS IN ENGINE AND PISTON KNOCKING. THEY SAID NEED NEW ENGINE. HAD TEGULAR OIL CHANGES ABD SERVICES.
TAKARA RECALL I LIVE IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO I HAVE AN ELANTRA 2013 THE CAR JERKS WHEN SLOWING DOWN ACCERALATING AND SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. MILEAGE 88,000KM. THIS CAN CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT AT TIMES THE GEARS SLAM IN WHILE CHANGING HYUNDAI SHOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS IT IS LIFE THREATENING I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING. CAN HYUNDAI PLEASE ASSIST.
THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LOOSE AND CLICKS EVERY TIME I TURN THE WHEEL. IT THEN SHAKES WHEN I GET OVER A SPEED OF 50 AND HIT MY BREAKS
MY CAR STARTED DEVELOPING A TICKING/KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AT STARTUP- SPECIALLY COLD STARTUP. THE NOISE SEEMS TO GO AWAY AFTER THE ENGINE IS SUFFICIENTLY WARMED UP- LIKE DRIVING 5-6 MINUTES ON COLD DAYS AND A MINUTE ON WARM ONES. RECENTLY, I HAVE STARTED EXPERIENCING SHUDDERS IN THE DRIVETRAIN-- THESE FEEL LIKE SUDDEN MOTIONS, LIKE THE ENGINE IS TRYING TO STALL. WENT TO THE DEALER, AND HE SAID EVERYTHING IS ALRIGHT, ALTHOUGH MY LOCAL MECHANIC SAYS THAT THIS SOUNDS SIMILAR TO SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS HE HAS RECEIVED FROM HIS OTHER CUSTOMERS. THEIR SEEM TO BE THOUSANDS OF AFFECTED HYUNDAI ELANTRA CUSTOMERS WHO ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE ONLY TO BE IGNORED WILLINGLY BY THE DEALERS AND THE MANUFACTURER. MY CAR STARTED DEVELOPING THESE NOISES AROUND 80,000 MILES- AND HYUNDAI OFFERS A 100,000 MILE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY. DOES NOT SEEM LIKE HYUNDAI IS HONORING ITS WARRANTIES AT THIS POINT. HYUNDAI AMERICA SEEMS TO BE TESTING THE STRATEGY WHERE MOST OF THE AFFECTED CUSTOMERS WILL RUN OUT OF WARRANTIES OR WILL SELL THEIR CARS FOR SECOND HAND OWNERS TO DISCOVER THAT THE ORIGINAL 100,000 MILE WARRANTY DOESN'T APPLY TO THEM ANYMORE. HYUNDAI SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON MY MODEL YEAR AND AFFECTED MODEL YEAR VEHICLES THAT ARE AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE. THERE IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY CONCERN OF ENGINE FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHERE THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE MAY GET INVOLVED IN A FATAL INCIDENT.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE TURNPIKE AT 75 MPH MY CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. IT JERKED VIOLENTLY AND THEN POWERED BACK ON. THIS HAPPENED IN THE DARK AND I DIDN'T HAVE ANY LIGHTS EITHER. THIS HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 70 OR MORE. PRIOR TO THIS THE EPS LIGHT CAME ON I TOOK IT IN DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I HAVEN'T TAKEN IN TO THE DEALER AS IT WILL NEED TO BE TOWED. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.
MY CAR HAS 63,300 MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT IT USED IN DECEMBER 2017, SIX MONTHS AND MY MECHANIC IS TELLING ME IT IS THE ENGINE AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IT HAD A TICKING SOUND, VERY LOW. I THOUGHT ONCE IT IDLED AND I START DRIVING IT WOULD GO AWAY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY RECENTLY AND MY CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 60 MPH. THE RPM WOULD NOT GO PAST 2.5. WHEN I EXITED THE FREEWAY, AND STOPPED AT THE LIGHT I HAD WHIT SMOKE COMING FROM MY CAR. WHEN I USE MY AIR, I CAN'T ACCELERATE OVER 40 MPH. EVERYDAY IT'S DRIVEN IT, GET'S WORSE.
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON STAYS ON AND HAVE SEWN THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH MANY ELENTRAS AND NO RECALL. I E SEEN THIS TO BE AN ISSUE FOR YRS. I HAVE MADE MANY CALLS TO HYUNDAI AND I KEEP GETTING TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP YOUR OUT OF YOUR 60000 MILE WARRANTY AND PAY WHAT EVER FEE IT IS.

"TAKATA RECALL" 2013 ELANTRA WILL DISPERSE A HUGE CLOUD OF SMOKE WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR DRIVERS BEHIND ME TO SEE. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY BUT MOST OFTEN WHEN PULLING OUT ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY MAKING IT INCREDIBLY UNSAFE FOR PEOPLE BEHIND ME. THERE IS SO MUCH SMOKE IT TAKES ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO A MINUTE TO FOR ME TO SEE THE CARS BEHIND ME. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON LINE ABOUT THIS AND VIDEOS OF IT HAPPENING. DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE OF AN OVERFLOW OF OIL BECAUSE I WAS GETTING OIL CHANGES OUTSIDE THE DEALER. THE DEAL CHANGED MY OIL IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. DIFFERENT DEALERS HAVE DIFFERENT EXCUSES OF WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS FOR THE DRIVERS BEHIND THESE VEHICLES AND I AM SURE NOT GOOD FOR THE CAR.
I NOTICED THE PAINT ON MY DRIVER SIDE, SIDE WINDOW LOOKED LIKE IT HAD BUBBLED, GOT WORSE AND IS STARTING TO HAPPEN ON THE OTHER SIDE. ALSO, THE GRILL IN FRONT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS MELTED IN NUMEROUS AREAS. BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP AND MANAGER OF BODY SHOP SAID HE HAS NEVER SEEN PAINT MELT AND BUBBLE LIKE THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG MIGHT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A SPRING BEHIND THE AIR BAG WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND BUTTONS ON STEERING WHEEL NO LONGER WORK. MANY OTHER ELANTRA OWNERS HAVE MADE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. THEY WANT ME TO PAY TO FIX A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE AIR BAGS AND IT HAPPENED BEFORE I HIT 60000 BUT COULDN'T GET IN UNTIL LATER SO THEY USED THAT TO NOT FIX IT ON THERE ON DIME.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PATRICK HYUNDAI (1020 E GOLF RD #1, SCHAUMBURG, IL 60173) WHERE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS BEING PERFORMED, BUT NO REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND VERIFIED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VIN. THE DIAGNOSIS RESULTS WERE NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000. *TT
THIS VEHICLE IS UNDER 70,000 MILES AND HAS POWERTRAIN ISSUES. THE CAR MAKES A TICKING NOISE WHEN IT STARTS UP AS WELL WHEN DRIVING. THE CAR REALLY MAKES THIS NOISE WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE UP AN INCLINE OR OVER 40 MPH. IT SEEMS TO HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME GETTING TO GO OVER 2000 RPM'S AT TIMES. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON - TOOK TO DEALER TO FIND OUT WHY - TOLD THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE NEEDED REPLACED (CODE B1620) AT A WHOPPING COST OF $1400! PLUS THE $110 IT COST ME TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. I HAVE A WARRANTY HOWEVER THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS NOT COVERED AND I FIND THAT VERY UPSETTING AS THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON AIR BAGS NOT GOING OFF BECAUSE OF THIS UNIT! THE CAR IS 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON IT. THIS SHOULD NOT GO BAD AND IF IT DOES HYUNDAI SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE! HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE DIE BEFORE HYUNDAI GETS INVOLVED? ITS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE COVERED - OBVIOUSLY PROFITS OUT WEIGH SAFETY WITH THEM.
I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA THAT I BOUGHT BRAND NEW. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES ELECTRICAL WITH LIGHTING TURNING ON AND OFF - I THOUGHT I WAS BURNING THROUGH BULBS QUICKLY BUT I CAN GO OVER A BUMP AND BRAKE LIGHTS OR INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL START TO WORK AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING. I RECENTLY STARTED HEARING A LOUD ENGINE KNOCK WHICH THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IS NORMAL AND WOULD GO AWAY ONCE IT WARMED UP. TURNS OUT WHEN I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO IS HONEST AND KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT THAT IT IS A WRIST PIN....WHICH MEANS A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. MY CAR IS NOW JUST OUT OF WARRANTY AND HYUNDAI DOES NOT WANT TO ASSIST EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE MANY CASES WITH 2013 HYUNDAI MOTORS THAT ARE BAD. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS BUT ISN'T. THE NHTSA SHOULD STEP IN AND MAKE HYUNDAI DO THE RIGHT THING.
MY FATHER-IN-LAW DRIVES A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT. IT CAR ONLY HAS 49K MILES. TODAY I FOUND OUT THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A CLUNKING NOISE. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL IS GOING TO COME LOSE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. TALK ABOUT AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I TOOK THE CAR TO HYUNDAI DEALER FOR REPAIR, BUT THEY WANT TO CHARGE $400 TO FIX IT. THIS IS A CAR DEFECT, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. FURTHERMORE, THE DEALER WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS A RECALL ON THE HYUNDAI SONATA BUT NOT ON THE ELANTRA. MY CAR AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON 3 WEEKS AGO. IT HASN'T TURNED OFF. THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE I'M DRIVING, AND WHEN I'M IN PARK.
ENGINE EXPERIENCING SAME ISSUES AS THE 2011-2014 SONATAS. THERE ARE METAL SHARDS IN THE ENGINE LEFT OVER FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS, AS DIAGNOSED BY THE LOCAL HYUNDAI OF EVANSVILLE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER. THESE METAL SHARDS WILL LIKELY EVENTUALLY CAUSE MY ENGINE TO FAIL, MORE THAN LIKELY WHEN THE CAR IS ON THE ROAD AS FOR SOME REASON THE ENGINE BEING HOT SEEMS TO PERPETUATE THE ISSUE. THERE IS SUBSTANTIAL RISK THAT WHEN THIS OCCURS I COULD WRECK THE CAR HARMING EITHER MYSELF OR OTHER INDIVIDUALS ON THE ROAD. THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THEY HEAR THE NOISE WHICH MY ENGINE IS MAKING QUITE OFTEN AND TELL PEOPLE THAT, "IT IS LIKELY NO BIG DEAL. HYUNDAI SUBMITTED A RECALL FOR THE SONATAS SO MAYBE THEY WILL MAKE ONE FOR THE ELANTRA EVENTUALLY." NOT LIKING THIS ANSWER I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK IN TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC IN WHICH I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HYUNDAI IS REFUSING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR MANUFACTURING MISHAP AND THEIR DEALERSHIP IS EVEN GOING AS FAR AS LYING TO PEOPLE THAT THIS "NOISE" IN THEIR ENGINE IS NO BIG DEAL, AT LEAST UNTIL THE PERSON CALLS THEM ON THEIR BLUFF AND INFORMS THE SERVICE CENTER THAT THEY KNOW THIS IS NOT NO BIG DEAL, THEN THE DEALERSHIP'S STORY ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CHANGES. I FEEL UNSAFE IN MY CAR AND FEARFUL FOR OTHERS WHO HAVE ALSO BEEN LIED TO ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. HYUNDAI IS REFUSING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME, CITY STREET, APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES PER HOUR, DRY WEATHER, 8 P.M., STILL DAYLIGHT BUT INDIRECT, APPROXIMATELY 70 DEGREES, HEARD A VERY LOUD EXPLOSION AND WAS IMMEDIATELY SHOWERED WITH VERY SHARP SHARDS OF GLASS.HER INFANT DAUGHTER IN THE REAR SEAT WAS NOT INJURED AS HER CAR SEAT COVER PROTECTED HER FROM THE FLYING GLASS. MY DAUGHTER RECEIVED NUMEROUS SMALL CUTS FROM THE GLASS. ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. SHE QUICKLY CLOSED THE INTERIOR SUNROOF COVER TO PREVENT THE REMAINDER OF THE GLASS FROM RAINING ONTO HERSELF AND THE BABY. PICTURES WILL BE FORTHCOMING WHEN WE CAN SAFELY OPEN THE INTERIOR COVER- WE TRIED TO DO SO TO GET A PHOTO TO SUBMIT BUT MORE GLASS SHARDS CAME DOWN ON HER, CUTTING HER AGAIN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, A TICKING NOISE WAS HEARD UNDERNEATH THE HOOD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DAVE HALLMAN HYUNDAI (2104 STATE ST SE, ERIE, PA 16503, 814-452-6731) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.
VEHICLE KEEPS SHUTTING OFF/ STALLING. FIRST DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS A YAW RATE SENSOR. SENSOR WAS CHANGED AND DID NOT SOLVE ISSUE. IT WAS ALSO EXPERIENCING FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS, GAS WOULD LEAK WHEN FILLING AND GAS WOULD NOT CALCULATE MILEAGE OR UPDATE. SECOND DEALER DID NOT SEE A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. NOW BELIEVES ITS A ECM PROBLEM. THEY DID NOT WANT TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY.
WHEN I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA IN JANUARY OF 2018 A VERY DISTINCTIVE CLICKING NOISE STARTED TO COME FROM THE ENGINE, WITHOUT ANY CAUSE. AFTER TAKING MY VEHICLE TO MULTIPLE MECHANICS, THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY ENGINE THAT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ENGINE FAIL ON ME BEFORE AND I KNOW THAT IN SOME CASES IT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO GET MY ENGINE REPLACED WITHOUT HAVING THE ENGINE FAIL, ALTHOUGH IT SOUNDED, AND DROVE, LIKE IT WAS ALMOST THERE. THIS PROBLEM GOT SO BAD THAT IT WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO EVEN DRIVE ON HILLS ANYMORE BECAUSE THE ENGINE COULDN'T WITHSTAND IT. I ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR NOT EVEN 3 YRS AND THIS OCCURRED. I GOT THE CAR AT 39,400 MILES AND I ONLY PUT 25,00 ON IT FROM DRIVING IT SO THEIR IS NO WAY THIS SHOULD HAVE OCCURRED. I PAID 1900 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AND WAS NOT HAPPY AT ALL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN THE CONTACT. THE VISOR FELL DOWN AND PARTIALLY PREVENTED FURTHER HEAD INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED HIP BRUISING, BACK PAIN, RIGHT LEG PAIN, FACE ABRASIONS, AND WRIST PAIN (MAINLY THE LEFT WRIST). MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. I BOUGHT MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA USED WITH OVER $60,000 MILES ALREADY DRIVEN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A SERVICE CHECK 2 DAYS AGO (I BOUGHT THE CAR ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO), AND THEY SAID THAT THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE IN THIS CAR IS CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS MODEL; IT'S THE WAY THE REAR AXLE WAS DESIGNED AND THERE'S NOTHING THEY COULD DO.
