PULLING RIGHT WHEN BRAKING. LEFT FRONT CALIPER 90 DEGREES, RIGHT FRONT CALIPER 165 DEGREES. DIAGNOSIS WAS ABS PUMP CORROSION. HYUNDAI HAD A RECALL IN 2014 ON THE GENESIS SEDAN FOR EXACT SITUATION BUT HAVE ADVISED THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THE COUPE.
THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED WHILE DRIVING ON A LOCAL ROAD. STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, FELT NORMAL AT FIRST, THEN PEDAL GAVE WAY ALMOST TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKING POWER WAS VERY LITTLE. PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL RECOVERED SOME BRAKE POWER ONLY TEMPORARILY. PULLED OVER AND SHUT DOWN THE CAR. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE BRAKES WERE STILL POOR. BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO COULD NOT WORK ON IT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND I REFUSED TO TAKE BACK THE CAR UNTIL SOMETHING WAS DONE. THE DEALER KEPT THE CAR ABOUT SIX WEEKS AND ROAD TESTED IT ALMOST EVERY DAY BUT COULD NOT PROVOKE THE PROBLEM TO RETURN. I ASKED THE DEALER TO REPLACE ANY OR ALL PARTS THAT COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER REFUSED TO DO SUCH A THING AND ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WAY FOR HYUNDAI TO DIAGNOSE THE TROUBLE. THEY RELIED ON ONLY THE ELECTRONIC SENSORS AND SINCE THERE WERE NO FAULT CODES THEY WOULD NOT TAKE ANY LIABILITY TO REPLACE PARTS ON A PRESUMPTIVE BASIS. I CONSIDERED THE CAR UNTRUSTWORTHY AND SAID IT SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. I TRADED THE CAR IN AT THE SAME DEALER FOR ANOTHER CAR WITH A DIFFERENT BRAKING SYSTEM DESIGN. *TR
HEADLIGHTS FLICKER ON AND OFF WHEN USING TURN SIGNALS. THEY WILL GO OFF FOR AS LONG AS TWO SECONDS AND THEN COME BACK ON. VERY UNSAFE WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND ALSO WHEN ON STOPPED POSITION WAITING TO MAKE TURN.
THIS CAR HAS BEEN A HEADACHE SINCE IT WENT OUT OF WARRANTY (IRONICALLY). FIRST IT WAS THE CAR WOULDN'T START DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BETWEEN THE ALARM SYSTEM AND KEY FOB. THE STARTER WAS THE NEXT TO GO. MOST RECENTLY THE FUEL PUMP WENT LITERALLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. FORTUNATE I WAS ABLE TO MAKE MY WAY OFF THE ROAD AND AVOIDED COLLUSION AND POSSIBLE PHYSICAL INJURY. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS THAT THERE WERE ANY ISSUES WITH THE CAR, NO DASHBOARD WARNINGS, NO USUAL PERFORMANCE. THE CAR WAS FINE ONE SECOND AND COMPLETELY DEAD THE NEXT. AFTER INCURRING $300 IN TOWING CHARGES, FIRST TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE HIS COMPUTER COULDN'T READ THE HYUNDAI CODES, THEN TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. HYUNDAI CLAIMS IT IS THE FUEL PUMP. I'LL REMAIN SKEPTICAL UNTIL THEY CONFIRM THE CAR IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL. I FIND IT IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPREHEND HOW A 6 YEAR OLD VEHICLE THAT IS IMPECCABLY MAINTAINED SHOULD HAVE THE DEGREE OF PROBLEMS I HAVE EXPERIENCED OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WILL NOT BE KEEPING THE CAR FOR LONG AND WILL NOT BE CONTINUING MY RELATIONSHIP WITH HYUNDAI. UNFORTUNATE SINCE I HAVE BEEN A HYUNDAI OWNER SINCE 2001.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED DURING NIGHT, WHEN USING THE TURNING SIGNALS THE HEAD LIGHTS TURNED OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF WHAT WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY I-10 W WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH, HAD TO BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 10 MPH BEHIND TRAFFIC THAT WAS SLOWING DOWN AND CAME TO COMPLETE HALT WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. WHEN TRAFFIC CLEARED, ON RELEASING BRAKE AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE AGAIN THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR. BROUGHT THE CAR TO PARK POSITION AND TURNED OFF ENGINE AND TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR, THE CAR WOULD CONTINUE TO BE ON STARTER MODE EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE HAD STARTED. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES THE CAR RESTARTED BUT THE GEAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE. MOVED THE SHIFT TO SHIFTRONIC MODE BUT THE CAR WOULD STILL NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR. HAD TO CALL IN A TOW COMPANY AND WAIT IN THE CAR FOR OVER 30 MINUTES OF HARROWING EXPERIENCE IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE 4 INSTANCE WHEN THE CAR HAS STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC IN A HIGHLY UNSAFE SITUATION. THE CAR DEALERS RESPONSE HAS BEEN UNSATISFACTORY. WONDER IF THEY HAVE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THIS HIGHLY UNSAFE FAILURE IN THE CAR. NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE ON THE ROAD WITH RISK OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE DAYS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT APPROXIMATLEY 80% OF THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V489000 (SERVICE BRAKES) IN FEBRUARY OF 2015. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REAPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MIELAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.
6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION HARD TO GET INTO SOME GEARS. GRINDING NOISE IS HEARD ON UPSHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD AND DOWNSHIFT FROM 6TH TO 5TH. THIS IS THE SECOND TRANSMISSION THE DEALER INSTALLED. THE ORIGINAL ONE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD AND IT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTY.
HELLO NHTSA ADMINISTRATOR, I BOUGHT A NEW HYUNDAI GENESIS IN MARCH 2010. AROUND AUGUST 2010, I HAD A SMALL FENDER BENDER IN THE PARKING LOT. TO KEEP WARRANTY INTACT ON THE CAR, HYUNDAI INSISTED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS ON THE CAR BE REPLACED, WHICH I DID FOR APPROXIMATELY $5000. SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ELECTRONIC ITEMS GO BAD IN THE CAR. I REPLACED SOME OF THESE AT MY OWN EXPENSE. BUT THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE WITH SOME EXPENSIVE ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS GOING BAD OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS. IN NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, THESE COMPONENTS SHOULD NOT GO BAD OVER THE LIFE OF THE CAR, AND CERTAINLY NOT AT A FREQUENCY THAT THEY HAVE FAILED IN MY CAR. I ATTRIBUTE THESE FAILURES TO BAD/DEFECTIVE JOB DONE DURING WIRING HARNESS REPLACEMENT. BUT HYUNDAI HAS REFUSED TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY SINCE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SMART CRUISE CONTROL--MAR 2017--NOT REPLACED--DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A QUOTE OF ~$4500 TO REPLACE 6. PASSENGER CABIN DOME LIGHT ASSEMBLY--AUG 2017--NOT REPLACED--$4500 ESTIMATE TO REPLACE 7. MULTI DISC CD PLAYER--FEB 2018--NOT REPLACED--$1000 ESTIMATE TO REPLACE I WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE HYUNDAI FOR THIS MATTER AND FORCE THEM TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. AS A CONSUMER, I FEED CHEATED AND BEING FORCED TO DOUBLE PAY FOR REPAIRS - ONCE FOR THE WIRING HARNESS REPLACEMENT AND NOW FOR ALL PROBLEMS ATTRIBUTED TO IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS. WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V489000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PASSENGER FENDER NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AND THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
AIRBAG I BROUGHT MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE AIRBAG AND DASH CHECKED BY HYUNDAI DEALER IN WEST PALM BEACH FLORIDA. THE DASH AROUND MY AIRBAG HAS CRACKED IN A PERFECT LINE AT THE AIR BAG LOCATION PHOTO ATTACHED. THEY REFUSED TO CHECK THE AIRBAG. HOWEVER THEY CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND ASKED FOR DASH REPLACEMENT. HYUNDAI WAS WILLING TO PAY FOR THE DASH PART BUT NOT ANY LABOR TO INSTALL NEW DASH OR TO CHECK MY AIRBAG TO MAKE SURE IT WILL NOT GO OFF. I AM ASKING FOR HELP TO GET MY AIRBAG CHECKED AND ALSO HAVE THE DASH REMOVED AND REPLACED BY HYUNDAI. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS PASSENGER AIRBAG IS AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR STREET TRAVELING AROUND 35 MPH, THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BEGAN TO STOP. AS I BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES, MY CAR'S PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED THE BRAKES A FEW TIMES AND BEGAN TO GET SOME PRESSURE, BUT I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP IN TIME BEFORE REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I NEVER KNEW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AND I COULDN'T GET THE PROBLEM TO DUPLICATE, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SOFT SINCE THAT DAY. I HAVE CHANGED THE PADS, AND ROTORS, SO THOSE ARE NOT THE ISSUE. THIS WEEK, MY FUEL PUMP WENT OUT AND I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC FOR THAT ISSUE. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR NEEDED AN ABS PUMP. THE DEALERS ARE WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE BECAUSE WHEN WE CHECKED THE PRICE OF THE PART ($2600), THE PARTS AGENT IMMEDIATELY KNEW THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THESE CARS. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!!!!
TRANSMISSION GRINDING/SYNCRO ISSUES, 2ND, 3RD, 5TH GEAR GRIND, GEAR LOCKOUT, GEAR REJECTION(INTERMITTENT DAILY OCCURRENCE WITH NO PATTERN), CAN CAUSING LOOS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, INABILITY TO SAFELY ACCELERATE ETC. I HAVE VISIT THE HYUNDAI DEALER FOR SEVERAL TIMES MY CAR IS ONLY 27500 MILES THE POWER SEAT WOULD NOT BACK UP, I ENTER THE CAR WITH EXTREME DIFFICULTY, I HAVE TO RECLINE THE SEAT TO SEAT IN THE CAR IN A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE POSITION, NOT TO MENTION MY RIGHT KNEE TOUCHING THE DASHBOARD, IS BEEN MORE THAN 5 TIMES, HOPING TO NEVER HAVE A SMALL ACCIDENT BECAUSE IF THE AIR BACK ACTIVATES IN THE INCIDENT I WON'T BE WRITING IT IN A FUTURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHCILE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V489000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON CRASH AT APPROX 45 - 50 MPH YET NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED.........UPDATED 12/30/15 *BF *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON SPRING CYPRESS RD (SPRING, TX) APPROACHING STATE HIGHWAY 249 AT 30 MPH, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AT THE INTERSECTION AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. IF I DIDN'T START PUMPING THE BRAKES, I WOULD HAVE REAR ENDED CAR ON FRONT OF ME. IF THIS INCIDENT HAD HAPPENED WHILE I WAS ON THE SH249 FREEWAY, I WOULDN'T BE HERE FILING THIS REPORT. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SLOWLY TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER USING SIDE ROADS.

THE CONTACT REVIEWED A SERVICE CAMPAIGN CONSENT LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE HECU WAS TO BE SERVICED AND REPLACED FOR ALL GENESIS VEHICLES. WHEN THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY SPECIFIED THAT THE GENESIS COUPE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT MANUFACTURER CAMPAIGN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RANDOM PROGRESSING FAILURE IN WHICH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BUT WAS SLOW TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC DRAINED THE BRAKES, REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS, AND SERVICED THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE AND INDICATED THAT THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP HAD NOT COMPLETED THE REPAIR CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED CORRECTLY. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO SERVICE THE HECU SYSTEM PERTAINING TO THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN, SO THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A PERMANENT REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 13V113000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING , SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND 13V489000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,500.
DRIVING AT NIGHT, USING TURN SIGNAL, HEADLIGHT GOES OFF. WHEN TURN IS COMPLETED.

BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT MUCH EFFORT WHEN AT A FULL STOP OR IN MOTION. LITTLE TO NO ACTUAL BRAKING OCCURS UNTIL REACHING THE FULL TRAVEL OF THE PEDAL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THE DEALERSHIP (BURNS HYUNDAI OF MARLTON NJ) ACKNOWLEDGED IT IS THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT, BUT REFUSES TO REPLACE UNDER THE 2013 RECALL OF THE UNIT. THEY QUOTED ME AT $3,024.50.
MY 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS WAS RECALLED FOR A DEFECTIVE FAULTY BREAK SWITCH IN 2014 AND THE REQUIRED SERVICE WAS PERFORMED 7/30/15. THE FOLLOWING DAY I ENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 75 MPH BUT ALMOST REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE THE INTEGRATED SPEED CONTROL DID NOT ACTIVATE. THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO TURNED COMPLETELY OFF AT TIMES. I'VE RETURNED THE CAR TWICE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND A SOLUTION AND HAVE REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM HYUNDAI. I WAITED ALMOST 2 MONTHS WITH NO WORD FROM HYUNDAI AND FINALLY WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 9/22/15 AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE STILL WAITING FOR INSTRUCTION FROM HYUNDAI AND THEY NOW HAVE A SECOND CAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WANT TO POST THIS LISTING BECAUSE I BELIEVE LIFES ARE AT STAKE AND OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES WILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE TICKETED FOR CAUSING ACCIDENTS AND, WORSE CASE SCENARIO, BE CHARGED WITH VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER.
I HAD TWO PRIOR INCIDENTS WHERE PARTIAL TO COMPLETE BRAKING FAILURE OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY, BUT THE ISSUE WAS ONLY TEMPORARY (A SINGLE STOP). THIS INCIDENT PERSISTED FOR DURATION OF MY DRIVE, PROMPTING RESEARCH INTO THE ISSUE (AND DISCOVERY OF THE KNOWN ABS HECU CORROSION ISSUE. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO SLOW AND MAKE A TURN ONTO A SIDESTREET ON THE WAY TO WORK, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH MINIMAL RESISTANCE (AND LIMITED BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS). THIS PROMPTED A PANICKED PUMPING OF THE BRAKES TO EVENTUALLY STOP THE VEHICLE 5-10FT SHY OF THE REAR BUMPER OF ANOTHER CAR. AFTER CAREFULLY TESTING TO ENSURE I HAD SOME BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS, I FINISHED THE SHORT DISTANCE TO MY OFFICE, NOTING THAT THE PEDAL REMAINED VERY SOFT, GOING TO THE FLOOR WITH EASE, AND HAVING LIMITED SUCCESS IN STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD THIS ISSUE PRESENTED ITSELF AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED HYUNDAI CORPORATE AND DROPPED MY VEHICLE OFF WITH A DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL REPAIR. I AM HOPING THIS INCIDENT, COUPLED WITH MY MANUFACTURE DATE (PRIOR TO JUNE 1, 2010 CUTOFF DATE) WILL JUSTIFY A FULL ABS HECU REPLACEMENT UNDER RECALL.
DRIVING ABOUT 10 MPH ON TIGHT CURVY COUNTRY ROAD, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. PUMPING THE PEDAL GOT THE CAR TO STOP. DEALER SAID THE BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION MODULE FAILED, ALLOWING BRAKE FLUID TO SIMPLY BYPASS BEING SENT TO THE BRAKES. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS FAILURE MODE; IT SHOULD FAIL BY ELIMINATING ABS BUT STILL GIVING FULL BRAKE FORCE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ON DASH LIGHTS THAT ANYTHING HAD FAILED.
I WAS DRIVING ON ROUTE 81 TO HARRISBURG AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND MY ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. I HAD TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO A SAFE PLACE. I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED AND MY MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE CONNECTING ROD INSIDE THE ENGINE BROKE AND PUT A HOLE IN THE ENGINE AND THE OIL TANK. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED AND WHILE IT WAS ON THE TOW TRUCK I SAW THE OIL JUST POURING OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THIS IS VERY ODD FOR THIS TO BREAK. HE SAID IT IS MOST LIKELY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT BECAUSE THIS DOES NOT JUST HAPPEN. OIL TANK WAS FULL WITH OIL AND THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CAR OF. ANY OTHER INCIDENTS LIKE THIS ONE?
THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) DISPLAYS ERRONEOUS TIRE PRESSURE READINGS DURING COLD WEATHER CLIMATES DESPITE HAVING THE CORRECT PSI OR ADDING AIR TO REACH AN ULTIMATE PSI READING. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH OTHER MODELS OF HYUNDAI VEHICLES WITH THE TPMS FEATURE ACCORDING TO OTHER OWNERS. *TR
WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT FELT MUSHY. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THE FIRM BRAKING THE VEHICLE BRAKES HAD EXHIBITED JUST A FEW MINUTES PREVIOUSLY. I COULD FEEL THE BRAKES TRYING TO ENGAGE AT THE PROPER BRAKE PEDAL PLACEMENT BUT THEN I HAD TO CONTINUE PRESSING THE PEDAL BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE NOT ENGAGING. AFTER THIS FIRST OCCURRENCE, SINCE I WAS OVER 300 MILES FROM HOME, I HAD TO ANTICIPATE ANY BRAKING I NEEDED TO DO. I FOUND THAT EACH TIME I NEEDED TO BRAKE, IF I PUMPED THE BRAKES AFTER THE FIRST INITIAL PRESSING OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, I COULD GET THE BRAKE PEDAL TO BUILD UP PRESSURE SO I WOULD HAVE CLOSE TO THE SAME BRAKING 'FEEL' THAT I HAD BEFORE THIS PROBLEM BEGAN. I RETURNED HOME ON SATURDAY. I DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR ON SUNDAY. ON MONDAY, I TOOK THE GENESIS TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. AFTER ALMOST TWO HOURS, THEY SAID THEY HAD IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE MASTER CYLINDER. I HAD THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED ON TUESDAY. THERE WAS ALMOST NO CHANGE IN THE MUSHINESS OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR POSSIBLE CAUSES I DISCOVERED HYUNDAI HAS HAD CONSIDERABLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT FADING AND MUSHY BRAKES ON THEIR GENESIS LINE OF VEHICLES. IT SEEMS IT ALL STEMS FROM THE HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT MODULE. SO, WITH HYUNDAI KNOWING THIS, WHY DID THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE ABILENE, TX DEALERSHIP RECOMMEND A MASTER CYLINDER REPLACEMENT WHEN, IN MY ESTIMATION, THE FIRST CULPRIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ABS MODULE? BUT NO DEFINITE ANSWER TO WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS. ON 7/1/2014 I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE OF MY 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR AND THE CAR DID NOT STOP. THE NEXT DAY I PHONED HYUNDAI ABOUT THE INCIDENT AND ASKED IF I COULD BRING THE CAR IN FOR A BRAKE INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD DO TO 4TH OF JULY HOLIDAY THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LOOK AT THE CAR. SINCE THEY WOULD NOT MAKE THIS A PRIORITY I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION ON 7/3/14. THE LOCAL MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. LATER THAT DAY THE CAR HAD BEGUN STOPPING AS NEEDED WITH NO CAUSE IDENTIFIED SO I WENT BACK TO NORMAL DRIVING BUT MAINTAINED FEELING UNCOMFORTABLE. I HAD FORGOTTEN THAT PREVIOUSLY I HAD TAKEN MY CAR TO HYUNDAI SERVICE TO HAVE A SAFETY RECALL PERFORMED ON 1/27/2014 (RECALL #114) THAT SPECIFICALLY RELATED THIS THIS AS A POSSIBILITY. THE SERVICE INVOLVED REPLACING THE BRAKE FLUID DUE TO HAVING TOO LOW OF A BOILING TEMPERATURE LEADING TO EVENTUAL CORROSION OF THE HECU ANTI-LOCK BRAKING COMPONENT RESULTING IN REDUCED STOPPING ABILITY OR COMPLETE FAILURE OF BRAKING POWER WHICH IS WHAT OCCURRED. ON 8/13/2014 ONCE AGAIN I WENT TO PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHILE DRIVING AND AGAIN MY FOOT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN ME ALMOST HITTING ANOTHER CAR IN MY WORK PARKING LOT. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER INSISTING THEY PERFORM A BRAKE INSPECTION. THEY DETERMINED AFTER A FEW DAYS THAT IT WAS THE HECU UNIT THAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT AND PROPOSED CHARGING ME $3500 FOR THE REPAIR LATER REDUCING THAT TO $2500 WHEN I COMPLAINED THAT MY VEHICLE HAD RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE AND COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WAS UNACCEPTABLE AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE COMPLAINED AT LEAST 2 OR 3 TIMES CONCERNING A SUDDEN ACCELERATION FROM THE STOP POSITION. THE ENGINE REVS UP AND THE CAR TAKES OFF WITHOUT MY DOING IT. I'VE REPORTED THIS IN 2014, AND 2016 - NOW I SEE THERE'S A RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION BUT MY CAR ISN'T ONE OF THEM? REALLY...
1) ALMOST HIT FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC AT A STOP LIGHT, WHEN I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN. THE SIGNAL TURNED YELLOW SO I TRIED TO TURN LEFT BEFORE I REALIZED THE ONCOMING CAR WAS GOING TO RUN THE LIGHT. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND HIT THE GAS TO MAKE A QUICK TURN TO AVOID THE ONCOMING CAR. THE CAR STALLED FOR A SECOND AS I PRESSED THE GAS INTO THE TURN, THEN KICKED INTO FULL POWER, SCREECHING THE TIRES. I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FLUKE BUT HIS SAME PROBLEM OF "STALLING" FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AND HITTING THE GAS AT TAKEOFF KEEPS HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE. WHEN NEEDING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY FROM A STOP, THIS CAR HAS A SECONDS GAP FROM HITTING THE GAS TO THE CAR MOVING. I'VE ALMOST BEEN HIT TWICE BECAUSE OF IT. 2) THE HEADLIGHTS SWITCH OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHEN USING THE TURN SIGNALS TO CHANGE LANES OR TURN. THEY FLASH ONCOMING DRIVERS AS I CLICK DOWN TO TURN THEM ON BEFORE THE TURN, OR WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL CLICKS BACK AFTER THE TURN. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON. THE LIGHTS HAVE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, IMPAIRING MY ABILITY TO SEE AT NIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY, THE KEY FOB, THE SMART KEY MODULE AND THE IGNITION LOCK MODULE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE REMEDY FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,700.
HYUNDAI IS HAVING A REAL ISSUE WITH THEIR FUEL PUMPS. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP FOR ITS 3RD FUEL PUMP AT 120K MILES. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS HOW THE PUMP GOES OUT WITH NO INDICATION OF AN ISSUE FROM THE CAR AT ALL. THIS TIME I WAS PARKED AT A GAS STATION, HOWEVER THE 2ND INCIDENT IS MORE CONCERNING. THEN, I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 70-75 MPH. WITHOUT WARNING, THE ENGINE STOPPED AND OF COURSE SO ALL OF THE OTHER CONTROLS FROM THE ENGINE. BECAUSE I HAD A FULL LOSS OF POWER, I WAS LUCKY THAT THERE WERE NO CARS IN THE INSIDE LANE AND I COULD MOVE OVER IN TIME TO GET TO THE SIDE SHOULDER. I LITERALLY COASTED TO THE SHOULDER AT 20 MPH. IF I HADN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO WAY TO MOVE THE CAR.
CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR. IT JUST MADE A GRINDING NOISE. FINALLY IT WENT INTO GEAR BUT KEPT MAKING A NOISE WHEN IN 1ST GEAR. *TR
TOOK MY 2010 GENESIS IN FOR SERVICE...BRAKE STOP LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. REPLACED DEFECTIVE SWITCH. TOOK MY SAME CAR IN FOR STATE INSPECTION ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2014, BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING AGAIN. REPLACED DEFECTIVE SWITCH MYSELF BECAUSE OF 2 HOUR DRIVE TO DEALER AND THE SAFETY ISSUE INVOLVED WITH DRIVING VEHICLE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! THESE SWITCHES SHOULD NOT FAIL THIS OFTEN.... AS I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY, THE BRAKES WENT ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE REST OF THE TRIP I NEEDED TO PUMP THE BRAKES TO ENABLE ME TO STOP. I TOOK IT THE HYUNDAI DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID IT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE ABS MODULE. I HAD THE DOT4 FLUID RECALL DONE ON DECEMBER 3RD 2013 (UP UNTIL THEN I HAD NEVER HAD A BRAKE ISSUE) AND APPARENTLY THE ABS MODULE RECALL CAME OUT DEC 20, 2013. THE DEALER REPLACED THE MODULE UNDER WARRANTY AND NOW THE CAR BRAKES FINE. I JUST WANTED TO DOCUMENT THE FAILURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ABNORMALLY DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY AROUND 45MPH WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE TO STOP AT A INTERSECTION. HOWEVER THE CAR HAD OTHER PLANS AND DIDN'T STOP AS DESIRED DUE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR! THANKFULLY, NO TRAFFIC WAS IN THE ONCOMING LANE AND THE TURN LANE FOR ME JUST TURNED GREEN. I WAS ABLE TO GO AROUND THE CAR AHEAD OF ME AND MAKE THE TURN WITHOUT INCIDENT. I THEN PROCEEDED TO LIMP THE CAR OVER TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP HERE IN JACKSONVILLE, FL. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A BAD ABS MODULE FOR THE BRAKES. MY 3RD PARTY WARRANTY COMPANY WOULDN'T REPAIR THE CAR DUE TO NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON FROM THIS BRAKE FAILURE. KEY HYUNDAI REPAIRED THE CAR AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO ME EVEN WITH MY CAR HAVING 63K MILES ON IT. ANOTHER THING TO NOTE IS THAT THEY HAD JUST CHANGED OUT THE BRAKE FLUID DUE TO A TSB A FEW MONTHS PRIOR OF WHICH THE OLD FLUID COULD CAUSE CORROSION ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 80 MPH, THE STEERING SEIZED AND THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED GREATLY. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE TRACTION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ECU FAILED AND THE ABS CONTROL MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,758.
