We consistently had issues with losing power on turns. My wife questioned Hyundai many times. They took it for a test drive and said they could not duplicate the issue and that they did not receive any complaints from anyone. We believed them until I saw many complaints on various websites including this site. Then the major issue occurred. I was merging onto an interstate making a big right hand loop and while I was in the middle of the right turn loop, the car lost power and then it did not come back. I had multiple cars behind me and many on the highway with nowhere to pull over. Top speed was 45 mph. It turned out to be a blown Turbo. The car is under warranty. That was in July of 2021. It is now December 2021 and I still do not have my car with no idea of when it will be fixed. After telling us they would have the part in August (which didn't happen) then September (which didn't happen) then November (which again did not happen) they said they didn't even show a ship order any longer for the part. We were told to call customer affairs. I called them on 11/22 and again on 12/8 - still no one is calling back. I'm stuck driving a small car while I'm paying for an SUV that no one will give any feedback. There were many cars at the dealer lot which appeared to be the same issue - same model. This has to qualify for the lemon law. The loss of power suddenly is extremely dangerous so if you have one, be careful.
1. Over several documented and undocumented times since July 2021, this vehicle has consistently lost >1 quart of oil every 1k miles. 2. This issue has been confirmed by the dealerships involved several times. 3. It is identified as the Theta engine failure. It began in 2012-13 and has been a constant for Hyundai and Kia models for 7 years. 4. There were no warnings from the initial ignition vehicles system check or at any time while operating this vehicle. Even when the engine loss was measured at about 4 qts. 5. This vehicle has been through 2 complete "oil consumption" programs that measure the oil loss during three consecutive 1K mile periods. Also it has had 2 "combustion cleanings" after which a follow up 1k mile oil check found that it still lost >1 qt of oil. 6. The failure of this engine is always a concern. I have personal and anecdotal testimony of what can happen with the failure of this engine. My wife and I are both in our 70's. We are also helping our 26 year old grandson with various transportation requirements. He has spastic dysplasia cerebral palsy and is unable to walk without a cane or walker. Longer distances require a wheelchair. We cannot push that wheelchair, we cannot carry him. We are in trouble if this engine fails and we are miles from home. Also, the vehicle under went the required ECM UPDATE as required by the NHTSA at 39843 miles on January 11, 2019. This update required the installation of a module that would decrease the RPM'S of the engine if there was a failure. There are horror stories on various FB Group pages about the terror of being on a 70 mph road, in the middle lane, when the engine fails and goes immediately to 35 mph. I have a personal friend who experienced that on I-95 in Maryland and was petrified. 6. Finally, after speaking with various Hyundai Service employees, I feel that I was mistreated after the first process. When my SUV lost >1 qt after 1K miles after the cleaning, I should have gotten a new engine.
We were driving on a highway at normal highway speeds around 10:15pm. There was some light rain and some lightning in the area. Out of nowhere our panoramic sunroof on our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe just exploded. There were no cars/trucks in front of us that kicked up any debris that could have caused this. It just shattered and the sound was deafening, it sounded like an explosion and for a quick second I thought we were getting shot at until I observed that no other glass in the car was broken so at that point I knew it was the panoramic sunroof.
Engine made a loud pinging noise. No warning lights appeared. I had it towed to dealer and they said that metal shavings were in the oil and the engine is shot and needs to be replaced. Car had 95,400 miles. Hyundai denied warranty because I was second owner after ignoring me for approximately one month and they never did reply to me directly, only to the dealer. How can so many Hyundai engines not last for over 100,000 miles?
There is a defective passenger presence detecting bladder on front passenger seat. My safety and the safety of my family are put at risk because if this sensor is not working, the car won't be able to detect if has someone on the passenger seat or not, causing a malfunction on the air bag system and the airbag won't be triggered in case of an accident. The problem was confirmed by Hyundai dealership by performed diagnostics according to the Hyundai service procedure. The airbag light show up on the dashboard at first blinking sometimes and finally stays on all the time. This happened in July/2021 and since then I've been trying a solution from Hyundai but the dealership and the manufacturer simply doesn't care about saying that they can do anything about since the car was not long cover by warranty and charging me in U$2.000 to fix it. Which I didn't agree and didn't pay. This causing me a lot stress because my car was rejected by state inspection and until today (Feb/2022) I have a useless car that I can't drive because I don't have the sticker from the state inspection. Besides that I can't feel safe driving and let my wife driving this car with this problem. In fact I heard from a mechanic from another Hyundai dealership that this is a common issue on this Hyundai model.
Location: Apartment complex , driveway This morning I went to drop off my son at my parents place and when I made a U turn to turn around, the car accelerated on it’s own, I stepped on the brakes and it was too late, I hit the neighbors car on the corner and my right tire was on top of the sidewalk. Keep in mind the speed limit in the apartment complex is 5mph. I was going at 6mph and when the car accelerated it felt like if it was going 20mph! I bought my car last year on August 2020, since then my car has been giving signs of hesitations on the acceleration but never would of thought my car would actually drive off on its own. I have a 1yr old son and after this accident happen I don’t feel safe driving my car at all or even trust it at this point, I don’t want to be driving and it happens again and it could be worse.
Car suddenly starting knocking loud and check engine light began to blink, Got out checked the engine has a loud knock. Car went into limp mode and throwing code P1326. There were no issues prior to this, the car will be going up to get checked but the dealer is far away and my insurance paid to tow it home and this will be out of pocket over 200 dollars.
Had oil changed on June30 2021 and on July 3 2021 the engine seized without oil in it. Had it towed to St. Augustine Hyundai and put a claim for replacement engine and Hyundai denied fixing it 3 months later with no explanation. Anyone I talked to in Hyundai Corporate they couldn't tell me why it was denied. This is the only vehicle we have and now we have no vehicle to drive.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while his wife was driving and approaching a red traffic light, the light turned green and the driver depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle started shaking abnormally and loss motive power, and stalled without warning. The driver attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle would not restart. The contact arrived at the scene and attempted to jump-start the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to start up. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer who inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the failure as bearing failure which caused the shaking and stalling of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost of the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
OIL EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION PROBLEM I BOUGHT IT WITH 65,000 MILES AND I NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN I SERVICE THE CAR THAT DID NOT HAVE OIL HYUNDAI KNOWS THAT THE 2017 SANTA FE SPORT HAVE THOSE FACTORY PROBLEM I ADDRESS THAT POBLEM TO HYUNDAI AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THAT 2.4 L ENGINE CEASED SUDDENLY AND THAT IS A DANGEROUS PROBLE THAT COULD HAPPEN WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I NEED HYUNDAI TO BE REPONSIBLE AND RESOLVE THE ISSUE BY REPLACING THE ENGINE. PS. I NEED HELP ON THIS PROBLEM
Broken cam shaft lifter arm caused engine to stall and break down
The engine is consuming oil. After 1500 miles since my last oil change the oil DOES NOT show up on the oil stick. I have bought 3 brand new Hyundai Santa Fe's and 1 used Sonata, and NEVER had problems, except for my 2017 Santa Fe Sport, which I purchased at Dondelinger Hyundai in Baxter, Minnesota. I have also had to replace the backup camera. I have been to this dealer 4 times with no resolve! Please help!!
The engine warning light came on and Oil leak from engine, I have taken the vehicle to the dealership and they thought it was an oil cap plug not put in correctly, they put it back in back in July 2021. But oil leak still happen and the engine warning light keeps turn on. Every day i have to check oil level to make sure it not go below the minimum and I keep on adding oil. I have go to the dealership and they unable to help me. I made repair issues know to them, and schedule several appointments and they keep cancel it, they say at this time they do not take any serious engine issues. The last appointment was made on August for September 4, and the Huyndai auto repair center cancel the day before, say that i have to find other repair shop to work on my engine problem. My car buy in October 2016, and currently sit at under 41,000 miles. The Engine warning light came up back in June 2021.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated when checking his oil he observed that the level was very low. The contact stated that he had noticed that when he was accelerating he would hear an abnormal knocking sound from the engine. The contact stated that he checked the oil and again saw that the level was dangerously low. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the PCV valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired, however, the heavy oil consumption continued. The contact had an oil consumption test run and was advised that the vehicle was not at the threshold for engine replacement. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
Smelled smoke at a stop light. Continued when light turned green. Pulled over about 30 car lengths later because smoke was coming in the vents. Jumped out of car and ran. Within 2 minutes, entire front engine was completely engulfed in flames. No indicator light came on before. Car was driving perfect.
CAR STARTED TO WHINE WHEN STARTED, THEN I WAS AT ABOUT 30 MPH IT MADE A HIGH PING NOISE LIKE SOMETHING FELL OUT AND THE CAR SHUT OFF, NEVER STARTED AGAIN, MECHANIC SAID ENGINE BLOWN
MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ENGINE STALLING WHILE DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS CAUSING VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER STEERING AND PROPER BRAKING MINE HAS DONE THIS ONCE SO FAR AND I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ONLINE OF THE SAME THIS HAPPENING TO OTHERS WHO OWN THE SAME YEAR MAKE MODEL OF THE VEHICLE
VEHICLE ACCELERATES VERY SLUGGISHLY ON TAKE OFF & IS VERY UNRESPONSIVE UNDER LOAD LIKE GOING UP A HILL.
BOUGHT HYUNDAI SANTE FE SPORT 2017 36,871 MILES ON 09-23-2019 DEALERSHIP OIL CHANGE 03-06-20 MILES 41104 DEALERSHIP OIL CHANGE, 03-03-21 MILES 47409 OIL VERY LOW AND DARK IN COLOR. DEALERSHIP REQUESTING OIL CONSUMPTION TEST EVERY 1000 MILES, 04-01-21 1.5 QUARTS LOW. I HAVE TO DO 2 MORE TEST, THIS IS A SKIRT AROUND THE PROBLEM, AND AN ENGINE FLUSH FOR SLUDGE, MORE SKIRTING THE PROBLEM. MY WARRANTY EXPIRES IN 6 WEEKS!
NOTICED A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE CAR. THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS LOOSE. NO WARNING LIGHTS TO INDICATE AN ISSUE. THE CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING DOWN LOCAL STREETS AS THE CAR WAS DECELERATING. AS LONG AS THE GAS PEDAL WAS PUMPED THE CAR CONTINUED TO STAY ENGAGED. CAR TAKEN TO MECHANIC BY TOW. THE CAR WAS DOWN 3.5 QUARTS OF OIL. WAS OVERDUE BY APPROXIMATELY 1000 MILES BASED ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF HYUNDAI MANUAL.
15 MILES FROM HOME IN LUVERNE, AL 36049 ON 2/1/2021, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE A MIS-FIRE. HAD OIL CHANGED AT HUFFINES HYUNDAI, PLANO, TX ON 1/25/2021 AND THEY DID A RECALL OF A 2ND ECM UPDATE OF SOFTWARE. EMPTIED SUV OUT ON 2/2, WENT TO BACKUP ON 2/3 AND WHITE SMOKE POUR OUT OF EXHAUST. TRIED TO DRIVE TO MITCHELL HYUNDAI ENTERPRISE, AL, VEHICLE DIED, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO SHOP. JUST FOUND OUT TODAY THAT MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE RECALL AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN SENT DOCUMENTATION ABOUT THE ENGINE ISSUE. TO DATE WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ACCORDING TO WHAT I READ IN THE LETTER, MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS COVERED, BUT THEY HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE COMPANY TO MAKE UP IT'S MIND. THE RECALL MAY NEED TO BE EXPANDED, MY VEHICLE IS THE 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 2.0T ULTIMATE.
We were traveling 75mph on I-94 when the car completely stopped- the electrical was still on, but the engine seized. This was on Dec 30,2021. We had it towed to our mechanic- it was found that “the engine seized due to receiving no oil”. The dipstick was the first thing my husband checked on the side of the road. There was oil and there was never any leakage on the garage floor for 3 almost 2.5 years. No service or warning lights ever appeared at any time. We had to spend almost $7K to replace the engine. We’ve had it back 2 weeks and just left it again, dead at the mechanics. Electrical is good, battery is great (had it checked). I now see that we also need to park it outside so that our garage and house don’t catch on fire. I also read this “engine seizing” because of no oil has been reported by others. We’ve never received any recall notices from Hyundai.
VEHICLE HAS 57,000 MILES, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 40. I STOPPED AT GAS STATION AND FILLED UP. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN IT SEEMED OK, GOT BACK ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND ENGINE STOPPED. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE ENGINE IS BLOWN AND IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. ONLY HAS 57,000 MILES SO SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY. DEALER GAVE ME A LOANER AND I DROVE HOME..CAR DIED IN MICHIGAN, THEY TOWED THE CAR TO GREENBAY WISCONSIN TO THE NEAREST DEALER, AND I LIVE IN CHICAGO. THE DEALER CALLED A FEW DAYS LATER AND ASKED FOR ALL OIL CHANGE DOCUMENTATION.. MOST OF IT WAS IN GLOVE BOX WHICH THEY FOUND, HAD OIL CHANGED AT HYUNDAI DEALER IN ILLINOIS IN MARCH OF 2020 RIGHT AS PANDEMIC STARTED , CAR HAD 45,383 MILES AT THAT TIME. DEALER DID NOT USE SYNTHETIC OIL ACCORDING TO RECEIPT WHICH IS STRANGE BECAUSE MANUFACTURER REQUIRES SYNTHETIC. COULD NOT A MORE RECENT RECEIPT BUT DID HAVE OIL CHANGE ONE MORE TIME ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, AGAIN DURING PANDEMIC. DEALER SAID THAT OIL LOOKED SLUDGEY AND THEY DENIED THE WARRANTY CLAIM FOR THE CAR. THEY BILLED HYUNDAI 18,000 TO PUT A NEW ENGINE IN MY VEHICLE AND HYUNDAI DENIED THE CLAIM. DEALER SAID HE WOULD PUT A USED ENGINE IN THE VEHICLE FOR $7,920.00 WITH A 1 YR WARRANTY. WE DECLINED AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD NOW CHARGE US FOR THE TOW AND 30.00 A DAY FOR USE OF THE LOANER. WE LIVE 200 MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ASKED US TO RETURN THE VEHICLE OR THEY COULD COME PICK IT UP, THE CAR IS CLOSE TO THE MILEAGE THAT THEY CANNOT SELL IT AS A NEW CAR AND WANT TO KEEP MILEAGE DOWN. THEY TOLD US ON FEB 5 THAT THE COULD NOT COME AND GET IT UNTIL FEB 10 AND THAT THEY WOULD BILL US 150.00 FOR 5 DAYS IT WOULD TAKE THEM TO PICK UP THE CAR. WE SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY ENGINE RECALLS ON HYUNDAI AND WE THINK OURS PROBABLY HAVE SAME ISSUES.
Airbag light stays in constantly in vehicle that is 5yrs old with less than 100,000 miles. Dealer wants $3,000+ to repair.
EVERYTIME I PUT IT IN DRIVE FROM A DEAD STOP IT WOULD JERK INTO SECOND AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN IT WOULD JERK AGAIN
THE ENGINE HAD BEEN BURNING UP THE OIL IN THE CAR. WE HAD A OIL CHANGE ON 11/30/20 AND THE CAR HAS 0 OIL AS OF TODAY. THE ENGINE MIGHT BE BLOWN. THE CAR ONLY HAS 88K MILES ON IT.
I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN 4 OR MORE TIMES BECAUSE THERE IS A SLIP IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE CAR IS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. THIS WAS BOUGHT IN 2017 WITH 150 MILES, THE FIRST OCCUPANCY HAPPENED WITHIN MONTHS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD MY ENGINE WAS SENSITIVE AND NOT TO LET OTHERS DRIVE IT, TURN OFF THE CAR, OR THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ERROR. I TOOK MY CAR IN IN NOVEMBER 2020 AND AFTER A FEW WEEKS IN THE SHOP, THEY WERE FINALLY ABLE TO 'FIND' THE ISSUE. I GOT MY CAR BACK WITH A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION, MID-DECEMBER. THE DRIVE HOME WAS OKAY, BUT SINCE THEN THE ISSUE OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY. COMING TO A STOP, THE RPMS JUMP, TURNING, THE RPMS JUMP. I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE 3/4 MILE DOWN THE ROAD WITHOUT MY CAR JERKING AND JOLTING. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE. SEVERAL CUSTOMERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME ISSUE IN THE PAST YEARS AND EVEN A LAWSUIT WAS BROUGHT UP, BUT THEN WAS DISMISSED. MY CAR VALUE HAS DROPPED ALMOST 50% BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I AM WITHOUT A CAR, STILL PAYING FOR MY LEASE, AND INSURANCE ON A CAR THAT DOES NOT SERVE ITS PROPER FUNCTION.
TAKING A RIGHT TURN INTO OUR DRIVEWAY ,THE VEHICLE HESITATED THEN SURGED AT A HIGH SPEED AND CRASHED INTO OUR HOME.BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED BUT COULD NOT STOP THE IMPACT.BELIEVE THE SURGE MAY BE RELATED TO THE TURBO ENGINE ACCELERATING.
I AM HAVING TO GET AN OIL CONSUMPTION EVERY 1000 MILES WHICH HAS ME CONCERNED.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal ticking noise detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated the noise was coming from cylinder #3 and the lifters. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure while starting the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer Service Center at Gurley Leep Hyundai (5302 Grape Rd Suite #3, Mishawaka, IN 46545); which determined that the cam shaft and pump electronic body sensor, ABS, and harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
I HAVE HAD ON AT LEAST A HALF DOZEN TIMES WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE AFTER STOPPING, AND THEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. FOR EXAMPLE: LEAVING A PARKING LOT GOING ONTO A ROADWAY ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY TO GET UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT. ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT AT A FLASHING RED LEFT TURN LANE TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL ABOUT 10-20', BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE, LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT ENGAGING. SOMETIMES THE ENGINE WILL REV TO 4000-5000RPMS. I WILL QUICKLY LET OFF OF THE THROTTLE, THEN IT WILL TAKE OFF. THE ENGINE DOES NOT REV EVERY TIME. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A MODULE ON THE TRANSMISSION APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, BUT IT DID NOT HELP. THEY HAD IT FOR ONE DAY IN JULY 2020, ATTEMPTING TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE WHERE THIS FAILURE TO ACCELERATE OCCURRED WAS 12/26/2020, WHERE UPON LEAVING A SERVICE STATION ONTO A FOUR LANE ROAD, IT ONCE AGAIN ROLLED TO 10-15 MPH, BUT WOULD NOT GO WHILE THE ENGINE RPMS WENT TO 4000. AS TRAFFIC WAS RAPIDLY APPROACHING I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE THROTTLE, AND IT FINALLY STARTED PICKING UP SPEED. THIS IS GETTING TO BE A DANGEROUS VEHICLE TO DRIVE.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND MY OIL LIGHT INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR AND WENT OFF AFTER I GOT OFF THE EXPRESSWAY PULLED OVER AT A GAS STATION. SO I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND AGAIN THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON SO I RECORDED IT ON MY CELL PHONE.I JUST HAD MY OIL CHANGED A WEEK PRIOR TO THIS. TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN MATTESON ILLINOIS WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM. AND GET ALL MY OIL CHANGES DONE ON THE VEHICLE. THEY CHECKED OUT MY VEHICLE AND SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T GET THE COMING ON WHEN THEY TOOK MY CAR ON A TEST DRIVE. SO I SHOW THE MECHANIC THE VIDEO I RECORDED ON MY PHONE. HE LOOKS AT THE VIDEO AND SAYS TO ME WELL IF THE OIL LIGHT COMES BACK ON BRING THE VEHICLE BACK. AND TELLS ME THE VEHICLE IS OK TO DRIVE AS IT IS. TWO DAYS LATER I'M RUNNING AN ARRON IN TRAFFIC ON A BUSY CITY STREET AND AS I'M DRIVING MY CAR STARTS JERKING AND STALLING AND A FLASHING ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD I PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CALLED HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT. BECAUSE I WAS CLOSE BY THE DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE PERSONNEL TOLD ME TO DRIVE THE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SO I DID. THEY TOLD ME MY ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. FOR THE SECOND TIME MIND YOU. 1ST TIME WAS A YEAR PRIOR. SO THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR A WEEK AND 2DAYS. GET MY CAR BACK A WEEK LATER I'M DRIVING ON MY WAY TO WORK AND THE FLASHING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. SO I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE KNOCK SENSOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THIS TIME. THEY REPAIR IT THE SAME DAY. MEAN WHILE WAITING I FIND AN VIDEO ON YOU TUBE ABOUT THE VERY PROBLEM I WAS HAVING WITH MY VEHICLE. BUT IT'S FROM THE HYUNDAI MANUFACTURES ABOUT THE 2014-2018 SANTA FE ,SONATA AND TUSON VEHICLE ABOUT KNOWN MALFUNCTIONS AND PROBLEMS THESE VEHICLES ARE HAVING AND WOULD HAVE. SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THESE ARE NOT RECALLS. NOW AGAIN YESTERDAY 1/16/21
MY VEHICLE WILL PERIODICALLY STALL WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP. VIN DOES NOT SHOW RECALLS, BUT THERE ARE RECALLS FOR OTHER 2017 SANTA FE VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. MY VEHICLE WAS MADE IN 2017,THE RECALL WAS IN NOVEMBER 2017; THEREFORE I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING THAT A RECALL IS WARRANTED AS THE PARTS WOULD HAVE BEEN USED TO MAKE IT. THIS CAN LITERALLY INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH. I WILL ALSO BE CONTACTING HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS OWN A 2017 HYUNDAI SANT FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS A RUBBING AND FRICTION SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V578000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SYCAMORE HYUNDAI (1380 DEKALB AVENUE, SYCAMORE, IL 60178, (815) 895-4584) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND THERE WAS METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL FILTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. INVALID VIN.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 2.0T TO ENTER THE FREEWAY, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE NORMALLY. IT STARTED TO SHAKE AND FELT LIKE THE ENGINE WAS "MISFIRING" AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO GET UP TO 60MPH. I TRIED TAKING MY FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR AND PRESSING IT AGAIN BUT IT WOULD ONLY LOSE SPEED AND THEN I'D HAVE TO WORK MY WAY UP TO 60 MPH. I WAS TRAVELLING STRAIGHT AND ON A FLAT ROAD. ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN FOOT WAS ON ACCELERATOR, THEN IT WENT OFF. ONCE I WAS OFF THE FREEWAY AND TRIED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN FROM A STOP, CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE GOING UP THE INCLINE AND THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT MY TAIL END. FINALLY,I TURNED LEFT TO GO UP THE HILL TOWARD MY HOUSE, I COULD ONLY GET UP TO 15 MPH BUT RPMS WERE BETWEEN 3500-4000. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC BEHIND ME BUT I WAS AFRAID I WASN'T GOING TO MAKE IT UP THE STREET OR THAT SOME CAR WOULD COME UP BEHIND ME AND MY CAR WOULD STOP. IN ORDER FOR A CAR TO BE SAFE IT NEEDS TO BE RELIABLE IN ACCELERATION AS MUCH AS BRAKING AND STEERING! I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP DAY AFTER TOMORROW.
THE V6 2017 SANTA FE SUV IS ADVERTISED IN MANY CAR MAGAZINES AND BY HYUNDAI TO TOW 5,000. LBS. I TOLD THE SALES MANAGER THE SPECS OF MY CAMPER. HE SAID IT WOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM TOWING MY CAMPER THAT WEIGHS 3,200. I SAID IF YOU GET IT PREPARED FOR TOWING, MEANING, HITCH, BRAKE BOX AND WIRE FOR LIGHTS, I WILL BUY IT. THE DEAL WAS MADE. I TOWED A FEW TIMES THEN HAD A BAD SHAKING IN THE REAR. THE SERVICE MANAGER TRIED TO TELL ME I WAS TOWING TOO MUCH WEIGHT. IMPOSSIBLE. IT'S JUST ME AND A SMALL DOG. I ARGUED WITH ALLEN TURNER HYUNDAI IN PENSACOLA, FL AND THE CORPORATE OFFICE. THEY BELIEVED WHAT THE DEALERSHIP SAID. I TOLD THEM I CAN GO WEIGH IT ALL ON DOT SCALES TO PROVE IT. SO THEY ENDED UP FIXING IT THAT TIME. I DIDN'T TOW FOR AWHILE BECAUSE OF COVID. THE FIRST TIME I DID, ON THE WAY HOME IT STARTED SHAKING. I GO TO THE DEALER. HE TOLD ME THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS SEPARATING INSIDE. IT WOULD NEED ALIGNMENT AND STRUTS. THEY WERE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR IT EVEN WITH THE CAR WITH LOW MILES STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY OFFERED ME SOMETHING OFF THEIR USED LOT. WHICH I CONSIDERED IF IT HAD THE SAFETY FEATURES THAT I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT ON MY SANTA FE. NO, THEY OFFERED A BASIC SMALL TRUCK. I'M OLDER AND I HAVE GOTTEN USED TO THE SAFETY FEATURES. THE SALESMAN TALKED DOWN TO ME, TRIED TO INTIMIDATE ME AND PRACTICALLY CALLED ME STUPID. I WAS SUPPOSED TO SEE THE SERVICE MANAGER BUT HE DISMISSED ME . I'VE BOUGHT THREE CARS FROM THIS DEALER USING THE SAME SALESMAN. THEN WHEN I HAVE A PROBLEM THEY TREAT ME LIKE THIS. I HAVE TESTIMONIES FROM OTHER CAMPER TRAILER HAULERS WITH THE SAME CAR THAT EVEN TOW A HIGHER WEIGHT CAMPER. THEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS. I WILL ATTACH PHOTOS OF THEIRS ALSO. THANK YOU [XXX] WHEN I'M TOWING IT ALL SOUNDS GOOD AND WORKS GOOD. I WOULDN'T KNOW THE CAMPER WAS BACK THERE. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
THE CAR HAS ALWAYS RAN THROUGH OIL SINCE IT WAS FIRST PURCHASED, BUT RECENTLY THE CAR DEVELOPED A MAJOR OIL LEAK. IT IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE. CHECKED SEALS OF OIL FILTER AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK.
VEHICLE BEGAN BURNING THROUGH 3-4 QUARTZ OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES AFTER VEHICLE GOT CLOSE TO 75K MILES. WHEN THE ISSUE FIRST BEGAN, THE CAUSE WAS UNKNOWN. AFTER RUNNING MULTIPLE OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS, IT IS NOW BELIEVED TO BE AN ENGINE DEFICIENCY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED VERTICALLY AND HORIZONTALLY IN THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED TWICE DUE TO BEING DAMAGED BY ROCKS. THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AT HER RESIDENCE BY SAFELITE AUTO GLASS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,271.
DURING ACCELERATION FROM A STOP SIGN/RED LIGHT OR TURNING THE ENGINE HESITATES FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS AFTER SEVERAL TRIES BEFORE REACHING DESIRED SPEED. WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL ON FREEWAYS THERE IS A 10 TO 15 SECOND DELAY WHEN ACCELERATING OR PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH IN ONE INSTANCE CAUSED A NEAR ACCIDENT ON A HIGH SPEED FREEWAY. MY VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN CAUSING OTHER VEHICLES GO AROUND ME PASSING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE LANE. THESE HESITATIONS HAVE CAUSED ME SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS AND MAKES ME NOT FEEL CONFIDENT WHEN DRIVING THIS CAR. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MANY OCCASIONS AND THEY REPORT NO ERROR CODES SHOW UP AND, THE MECHANIC CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION EARLIER THIS YEAR. THERE HAS BEEN NO IMPROVEMENT. I HAVE REVIEWED MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS HESITATION PROBLEM. WILL IT TAKE DEATH REPORTS TO HELP US OWNERS? MY ISSUE BEGAN IN 2018 RIGHT AFTER PURCHASE AND THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING MORE OFTEN NOW. NO HELP IS IN SIGHT WHEN HYUNDAI AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO ADMIT THE PROBLEM AND MAKES ME AND OTHER OWNERS FEEL LIKE WE DON'T KNOW OUR VEHICLES OR OUR OWN MINDS!! WE NEED HELP BEFORE A DEATH OCCURS NOT AFTER!!
THIS VEHICLE HAS A INTERMITTENT ACCELERATION PROBLEM WHICH CAUSES A DELAY IN THE VEHICLE MOVEMENT. THE DEALER STATED THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM HOWEVER THE ISSUE DOES EXIST. MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS I READ ON LINE.
BEEN LOSING OIL INBETWEEN OIL CHANGES AS DOCUMENTED BY FACILITIES THAT CHANGED IT AND NOTHING WAS SAID BY DEALER WHEN I ASKED IF IT WAS A PROBLEM AT THE MOST RECENT OIL CHANGE. TODAY MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND BLEW AND WAS BONE DRY. I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AND IT STOPPED ACCELERATING AND KNOCKING. I HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle shifted into limp mode, causing the speed to be reduced to 20 mph. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. Additionally, while driving at speeds above 60 mph, the 2nd-row captain seats shook and vibrated abnormally. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Since this vehicle reached about 75,000 miles, it has been burning oil like crazy. We have to add a quart every 7-10 days. It drives fine, there’s no oil leaks, no smoke from the tailpipe. We took the car to Hyundai and they did their oil consumption tests. They came to the conclusion that this was within the normal range and would do nothing for us. This needs to be fixed, Hyundai!
VEHICLE LOSES ALL ELECTRICAL POWER, DESPITE HAVING A NEW BATTERY INSTALLED BY DEALER. BATTERY RUNS DOWN, SOMETIMES OVERNIGHT. DEALER CANNOT FIND ANY ISSUES, THOUGH SOMETHING CLEARLY IS DRAINING BATTERY POWER VERY QUICKLY. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS. VEHICLE IS OPERATED OFTEN ENOUGH TO PRECLUDE SUCH BATTERY DRAINAGE. I AM BRINGING IT BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN ON 11 JUNE, AS THIS OCCURRED AGAIN TODAY (9 JUNE). I PURCHASED A PORTABLE MACHINE THAT JUMPS THE CAR BECAUSE THIS HAPPENS SO OFTEN. MY SPOUSE IS THE PRIMARY OPERATOR OF THIS VEHICLE AND I FEAR THAT THE ELECTRICAL WILL FAIL UNEXPECTEDLY AND POSE A SAFETY PROBLEM. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW OR A LEMON! *TR
BAD HESITATION PROBLEM MANY TIMES AS FOUR TIMES A DAY WHEN YOU STEP ON THE GAS THERE'S NOTHING SOMETIMES LUNGING FORWARD ALMOST GETTING HIT BY ON COMING CAR BEEN THIS WAY SINCE I PURCHASED IN 2018 HAD IN THE SHOP TWICE CANT FIND ANYTHING BECAUSE NO CODES SHAME MECHANIC CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS THERE ARE CODES. VERY DANGEROUS LITERALLY 1000 OF COMPLAINS ON THE INTERNET SINCE 2016 SINCE SUV WAS MANUFACTURED
WHEN ACCELERATING, MY VEHICLE HESITATES PRESENTING A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN MERGING ONTO HIGHWAYS OR MAKING LANE CHANGES. COULD ABSOLUTELY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY THE RISK OF BEING REAR ENDED. ALSO WHEN TURNING, HESITATES WHEN SPEEDING UP AFTER THE TURN. SAME WITH STOPS.
CAR SHIFTS ROUGH, MOSTLY INTO FIRST GEAR. AS THE PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED, IT HAS WORSENED AND ALSO SHIFTS ROUGH IN HIGHER GEARS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS INTENDED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER PARKWAY HYUNDAI LOCATED AT 5920 MARKET ST A, WILMINGTON, NC 28405 BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED AND THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT YET DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT YET NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
LET ME SAY MY HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED ULTIMATE 3.3L AWD IS A VERY GOOD AND RELIABLE VEHICLE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES OR PROBLEMS. ALWAYS KEPT IT MAINTAINED. WELL ABOUT A MONTH AGO I HAPPEN TO START MY HYUNDAI WITH THE DOOR OPEN AND I HEARD A SOUND JUST FOR A FEW SECONDS. THE SOUND OF A ENGINE LOW ON OIL WHAT COULD NOT BELIEVE IT, IT CAN'T BE. SO I CHECKED IT AND SURE ENOUGH IT NEEDED OIL, DUMBFOUNDED NO OIL PUDDLES ANYWHERE ON THE GROUND I WAS KINDA IN SHOCK THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED DIDN'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THAT ITS NEVER LEAKED OIL AND NONE OF THE GENTLEMEN THAT CHANGES THE OIL NEVER SAID ANYTHING OIL ABOUT THE OIL BEING LOW OR OIL ON THE ENGINE. SO I FOUND OUT WHAT KINDA OF OIL IT TOOK AND PUT ABOUT 3 1/2 QUARTERS. OK ALL BETTER BUT STILL WONDERING HOW THAT HAPPEND JUST RECENTLY HAD THE OIL CHANGED. WELL THE NEXT MORNING I HAD TO DRIVE TO SAN DIEGO FROM LONG BEACH CHECKED OIL OK NO PROBLEM ALL GOOD. SO IM ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING THROU OCEANSIDE CAMP PENDLETON AND WAS GETTING HUNGRY SO THE FIRST EXIT AFTER DRIVING THROUGH OCEANSIDE I WAS GOING TO STOP AND GET SOMETHING MIND YOU NO LIGHTS NO SMELLS NO SMOKE. SO I STARTED TO EXIT STILL EVERYTHING JUST FINE AND WHEN I SLOWED DOWN COMING TO THE LIGHT THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN NO SMOKE NO LIGHTS NO SMELLS. I WAS VERY SUPRISED I TRIED TO START IT AND NOTHING TRIED AGAIN AND NOTHING. SO I CALLED AAA THEY LOOKED AT IT AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG BUT WOULD NOT START. SO I HAD THEM TAKE IT ON A FLAT BED TO HYUNDAI HARBOR OFF OF CHERRY WHERE IT SITS NOW. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THE ENGINE HAS SEIZED UP IT WILL NOT ROTATE. TOOK OIL PAN OFF AND FOUND METAL PIECES AND SAID THE BEARINGS WENT BAD IN TURN BURNING UP THE OIL AND SEIZED THE ENGINE. THAT PRETTY MUCH IT SO IS THEIR ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO HELP ME. I STILL OWE AROUND $19,000 ON IT AND DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO I'M GLAD I FOUND THAT LITTLE ARTICLE BECAUSE I NEED HELP.
