PROBLEM WAS WITH THE SWITCH ON MY CAR. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON IT MADE A STRANGE SOUND FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, IT WOULD ONLY HAPPEN ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH. WHEN IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND BEGAN TO MAKE THE SOUND A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, I TOOK MY HYUNDAI BACK TO THE CAR DEALER. THEY CLAIMED IT WAS THE STARTER. MY HUSBAND AND HIS MECHANIC SAID IT SOUNDED MORE LIKE THE SWITCH. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ALMOST 500.00 DOLLARS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY HUSBAND BOUGHT THE SWITCH FOR ABOUT $15.00 DOLLARS AND HIS MECHANIC PUT IT ON. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE. I DO NOT KNOW IF ANY ONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI SONATA EQUIPPED WITH NEXEN CP672 TIRES, SIZE: P215/55R17. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRES EXHIBITED A BUBBLE. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
IN JANUARY, WHEN DRIVING OUR 2009 HYUNDAI SONATA, THE REAR RIGHT BRAKES MADE NOISE AND WERE CAUSING NOISE AND EXCESSIVE HEAT TO COME FROM BRAKE AREA, WHERE THE WHEEL WAS TOO HOT TO TOUCH AND A SMELL OF HOT RUBBER COULD BE MADE. WHEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR, THE TECHNICIAN STATED "FOUND THE REAR BRAKES DOWN TO METAL ON METAL. CAUSING THE CONCERN. TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND RIGHT REAR ROTOR." SEVEN MONTHS LATER IN AUGUST, THE SAME NOISE, SMELL AND EXCESSIVE HEAT HAPPENED AGAIN. PER THE DEALER "VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN, TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE CALIPER AS NEEDED. INSTALLED REPLACEMENT PADS,..." WE WERE FORTUNATE NOT TO BE IN ANY ACCIDENT WITH THESE POOR BRAKES. THE DEALER MADE US PAY FOR BOTH SETS OF REPAIRS. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, AND SHOULD BE A NO CHARGE REPAIR. *TR
I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY AFTER MY BRAKES FAILED ON THE WAY TO WORK. BY PUTTING THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS THE RIGHT REAR CALIPER THAT HAD SEIZED. THEY REPAIRED THAT CALIPER, BUT I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN FOR THE LEFT REAR CALIPER BEING DAMAGED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS "FINE." WELL A FEW MONTHS LATER, MY LEFT REAR CALIPER HAS SEIZED AND I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TELL ME THAT IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THAT I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN ABOUT THE LEFT REAR CALIPER IN JANUARY. THEY TELL ME THAT IT IS UP TO HYUNDAI TO DECIDE WHETHER IT WILL BE COVERED OR NOT. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! PEOPLES' LIVES ARE AT RISK! *TR
THE NAV RADIO FREEZES UP. RESTARTS RANDOMLY OVER AND OVER. CAN STILL TUNE THE RADIO AND SOUND THROUGH STEERING WHEEL BUT CANNOT SEE ANYTHING ON THE NAV SCREEN. THIS HAPPENED A DAY AFTER THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND SAID THAT THE WARRANTY WAS UP. WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED, AS THIS IS WHY THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. FOR THE NAVIGATION FEATURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHIFTER BECAME STUCK IN PARK. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE THEN ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A WALL. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO HAVE REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. 13V113000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL DEFECT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
THE PAINT JUST PEELS OFF THE CAR WHEN DRIVING. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO 3 DIFFERENT AUTO BODY SHOPS AND ALL 3 SAID THE PRIMER IS BAD. THIS IS CAUSING THE PAINT TO PEEL OFF TO THE METAL. HYUNDAI WILL NOT EVER LOOK AT THE CAR TO INSPECT IT FOR BAD PRIMER. *TR
DASHBOARD IS CRACKING AND HAS BEEN FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. MY BOYFRIEND'S FRIEND HAS THE SAME CAR, SAME YEAR AND HIS IS WORSE THAN MINE. MY CONCERN IS THIS IS WHERE AIRBAG IS LOCATED.
ESC OFF LIGHT COMES ON A FEW MINUTES AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. RESETS AFTER VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF ONLY TO COME BACK ON A FEW MINUTES LATER. ADDITIONAL SOMETIMES CRUISE CANNOT BE TURNED ON AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL ENGAGE WITH ESC OFF LIGHT ON. *TR
2009 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION, HAD THE VISOR DOWN TO BLOCK SUN AND WHEN I WENT TO PUT IT UP IT WILL NOT STAY IN THAT POSITION, MAKE IT HARD TO DRIVE WITH IT IN THE DOWN POSITION, BLOCKS VIEW OF THE ROAD. *TR
THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT BULB IS NOT EASILY CHANGEABLE.
AFTER I START MY CAR AND DRIVE IT FOR LESS THAN ONE MILE, MY CAR WILL STALL WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN I SLOW/STOP THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER STARTING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE RUSTED BRAKE CALIPER PIN HAD SEIZED. THE REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED AND THE BRAKE PIN WAS LUBRICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
DRIVING CAR AND PULLED IN PARKING SPACE, PUT IN REVERSE TO TURN AROUND AND STEERING COLUMN WAS TOTALLY DISCONNECTED. THE STEERING WHEEL JUST WENT ROUND AND ROUND AND I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OF THE CAR. HAD I NOT BEEN IN A PARKING LOT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A FETAL CRASH IN THE 8 AM WORK TRAFFIC. I FIND ON THE CONSUMER REPORT WEB SITE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS AS WELL. HOWEVER MY DEALER CHARGED ME FOR ALL THE REPAIRS AND A TOWING FEE. I HAVE NO FAITH IN THIS CAR ANYMORE. *TR
MY VEHICLE CONTINUES TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE ESC LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY LIGHTING UP. OCCURRED AGAIN YESTERDAY - SEVERAL TIMES. ISSUE ADDRESSED BACK IN 6/18/2011 WHEN THE CAR HAD 67,604 MILES - BRAKE SWITCH WAS REPLACED DUE TO THE ESC LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY LIGHTING UP. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL CAMPAIGN 110 AND HYUNDAI RECALL 13V-113 UNDERWAY, BUT MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED. I ASK THAT THIS RECALL BE EXPANDED AS I AM HAVING THESE ISSUES WITH MY CAR AT PRESENT AND HYUNDAI IS UNWILLING TO DIAGNOSE OR FIX WITHOUT THE OWNER PAYING THE COST. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT WAS RECALLED A FEW YRS AGO AS WELL AND OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR
ESC OFF LIGHT INTERMITTENT ON MY DASH BOARD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FRACTURED. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHROME ON THE DOOR LATCH HAD PEELED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,400.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V354000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE PART WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING ABNORMALLY AND WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED IN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION WHEN SHE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THE DOORS ERRONEOUSLY LOCKED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE CHROME ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT DOOR HANDLE WAS PEELING AND TORE THROUGH THE CONTACT'S HAND. ADDITIONALLY, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO LOCK AND THE VEHICLE JERKED ABNORMALLY WHEN SHIFTING DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE DOOR LOCK AND JERKING FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED AND THE STARTER LEVER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000.
ON OCTOBER 27 2013, THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS AND THE BACK ILLUMINATING LIGHTS, GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND OVER HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT, I TOOK IT TO A CAR REPAIR SHOP AND THEY CHANGED OUT THE DIMMER SWITCH, WHICH KEPT BURNING OUT,SMOKE HAS COME OUT OF THE DASH BOARD AND IT SMELLED LIFE FIRE, I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE DEALER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AT NIGHT AND I AM AFRAID THE CARE MIGHT CATCH FIRE. AFTER CHANGING IT OUT 4 TIMES, THE MECHANIC TOLD US TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER.WE DID TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND $700.00 LATER THEY STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IT, SO I HAVE FILED A CASE WITH THE CORPORATE OFFICE, THE CAR HAS HAD SOME ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BEFORE, BUT IT HAS BEEN FIXED BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN RECALLS. THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO AND THEY WANT US TO TAKE THE CAR SOMEWHERE ELSE. THE DEALER IS NO HELP, THEY SUGGESTED WE JUST BUY A NEW CAR!!! *TR
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, THE BRAKES START STICKING, CAUSING THE CAR TO JERK. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO TELL ME THEY COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING THAT WAS WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. WHEN I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP, THE BRAKES WERE DOING THE SAME THING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. UPDATED 12/24/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED ON OCTOBER 1, 2013, BOTH REAR SIDE(PASSENGER AND DRIVER) EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BROKE OFF WHEN TRYING TO OPEN THEM. THE DEALER QUOTED THE CONSUMER A PRICE OF $500.00 THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED, DUE TO THE COST. UPDATED 12/26/13
THE CHROME "WRAP", WHICH IS A CHROME COLORED COVERING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE BECAME DETACHED LEAVING A RAZOR SHARP EDGE, WHICH CUT MY HAND WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR WITH THE DOOR HANDLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD TO USE A GLOVE OR EXERCISE CARE TO OPEN THE DOOR. ACCORDING TO REPORTS POSTED ON THE WEB, HYUNDAI HAD ISSUED RECALLS FOR EARLIER YEAR MODELS BUT HAS REFUSED TO FOR NEWER MODELS EVEN THOUGH THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS IN THE NEWER MODELS AND ISN'T JUST MANIFEST IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE BUT OCCURS IN OTHER HANDLES AS WELL. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE DEFECT IS NOT COVERED BY HUNDAI'S WARRANTY BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS "WAY OUT OF WARRANTY." *TR
UPON START UP THIS MORNING, THE ESC OFF LIGHT TURNED ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY OVER THE PAST YEAR, AT LEAST 4 TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY TO BE TOLD NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT UNLESS THE LIGHT SIMPLY DID NOT TURN OFF EVENTUALLY. EACH TIME THE LIGHT HAS TURNED OFF AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTARTING IT. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE HYUNDAIS, YET THE DEALER NEVER TOLD ME NOR DID THEY TRY TO MAKE A PERMANENT FIX TO THE PROBLEM. NOW I AM OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. THERE WAS A RECALL PRIOR TO THE 2009 HYUNDAIS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE AND WONDERING IF SO MANY PEOPLE CONTINUE TO BE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WHY THERE IS NOT ANOTHER RECALL. *TR
RELATED TO PREVIOUS COMPLAINT DATED 9/16/2013 NHTSA ID NUMBER 10543783. MY VEHICLE CONTINUES TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE ESC LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY LIGHTING UP - MORE FREQUENT THAN PREVIOUS. DRIVERS SIDE VISOR DOES NOT STAY UP IN ANY POSITION. *TR
MY ESC AND AIR BAG MALFUNCTION LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED AND MY BRAKES MAL-FUNCTIONS. RECALL CAMPAIGN 110 RECALLS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ON SOME OF THESE CARS BUT NOT ON MY YEAR AND MODEL. I AM SUGGESTING THAT THE RECALL MAY NEED TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THE 2009 SONATA SINCE THE SWITCHES SEEM TO MALFUNCTION IN THAT MAKE/MODEL/YEAR AS WELL. *TR
TAKING MY CAR FOR THE FIRST OIL CHANGE SINCE I BOUGHT IT AND THE CAR STALLED WHILE IN NEUTRAL WAITING FOR AN OIL CHANGE. RESTARTED WITHOUT A PROBLEM. IT HAS ALSO TRIED TO STALL WHILE DRIVING SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, MORE FREQUENT THAN BEFORE. IT'S ALSO STALLED IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. MY CHECK LIGHT ONLY COMES ON FOR A SPLIT SECOND WHEN THE CAR TRIES TO DIE, BUT AFTER THAT, IT'S JUST FINE. BROUGHT IT TO 3 DEALERSHIPS THAT TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. I BOUGHT AN OBDII SCANNER AND FOUND TROUBLE CODES P0335 AND P0108. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY STILL COULDN'T FIND A CODE. MY CAR HAS ALMOST STALLED WHILE TRYING TO CROSS A BUSY INTERSECTION AND NO ONE WANTS TO EVEN TRY TO HELP ME. *TR
THE REAR CALIPERS MOUNTING BRACKET IS HOLDING THE BRAKES WAY TO TIGHTLY TO THE ROTORS SO THEY ARE CONSTANTLY BEING APPLIED. THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING IS TO MANUALLY GRIND DOWN THE SIDES OF THE BRAKES TO MAKE THEM FIT PROPERLY. I FOUND THIS OUT WHEN I CHANGED MY BRAKES BEFORE A LONG CAR RIDE (APPROX 4 HOURS). THE BRAKES WERE HOLDING THE CAR BACK AND THROWING OFF MY ALIGNMENT. BOUGHT VEHICLE WITH 49000 MILES WITH NEW BRAKES. REPLACED THEM AT 68200. CURRENTLY HAS 69200 AND I HAVE TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AGAIN BECAUSE THE HOT FRICTION COMPLETELY RUINED THE BRAKES. MY WIFE IS PREGNANT AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE KNOWING MY BRAKES MIGHT BURN OUT AT SOME POINT AND FAIL. *TR
REAR BRAKE CALIPERS ARE LOCKING UP CAUSING PREMATURE EXCESSIVE WEAR OF THE REAR BRAKES. THIS IS UNDETECTABLE IN THE DRIVABILITY OF THE CAR UNTIL THE BRAKE PADS ARE WORN SO LOW THAT THEY MAKE NOISE. *TR
PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT TURN ON. DOES NOT MATTER IF ANYONE IS IN THE SEAT OR NOT, THE RED LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. *TT
PAINT IS BLISTERED & PEELING OFF IN BIG CHUNKS. PRIMARILY THE HOOD, ROOF & TRUCK. VEHICLE IS PEARL WHITE IN COLOR
MY ESC OFF AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. MY MECHANIC INDICATED IT WAS DUE TO A BAD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AS MY REAR BRAKE LIGHTS AND CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK. HE REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH BUT A COUPLE DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE COMPUTER LISTED A DIFFERENT CODE, STATING THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS NOT COMPATIBLE, BUT THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WORK OFF AND ON. AWAITING FOLLOW UP WITH MY MECHANIC AS HE WAS GOING TO CHECK WITH HYUNDAI.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,900.
HEARD SQUEALING AND HOWLING FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES HUNG UP AND I NEEDED TO REPLACE BRAKES AND ROTOR ($189.00). I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE AND NOTHING WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I PURCHASED THE ITEMS AND WHEN THEY WERE GOING TO BE REPLACED WE DISCOVERED THE DUST BOOT WAS PULLED OUT OF THE CALIPER (WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT EVERY 7000 MILES THE CALIPERS WOULD NEED REBUILT. DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, 'ESC OFF' LIGHT CAME ON; AT THE SAME TIME, THE CRUISE CONTROL QUIT WORKING AND I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS ALL QUIT WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
WITHIN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF I HAVE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS APPROXIMATELY 6 TIMES. 3 TIMES ON THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT AND 3 ON THE LEFT. MY MECHANIC CAN NOT TELL ME WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. HE SAID IT LOOKS LIKE A GROUNDING PROBLEM. HAVE YOU HAD ANY REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM OR IS THIS AN ISOLATED PROBLEM? THE COST OF THESE BULBS ARE GETTING TOO MUCH TO BEAR. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE BECAUSE I REPLACED THE LEFT LIGHT LAST WEEK AND THE RIGHT LIGHT TODAY (12-8-14). *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS AQUA PLANNING, THE DRIVER LOST A COMPLETE CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS BOUNCING BETWEEN ROAD SIDES, LEFT AND RIGHT - 3 TIMES. THE CAR HIT THE GATE RAILS 3 TIMES. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS CAME OUT AND THE SEAT BELTS APPEARED NOT TO BE LOCKED AT THE MOMENT OF ACCIDENT. AS A RESULT THE PASSENGER'S BODY MOVED FREELY IN THE CAR AND HIT THE LEFT RIB AND INTERNAL ORGANS, AND HIT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FACE, INCLUDING CHEEK BONE AND NOSE. THE PASSENGER'S FACE WAS SEVERELY BRUISED AND SWOLLEN. BESIDES, BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER HAD A WHIPLASH. *TR
LOWERING THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR MADE A CRACKLING NOISE THEN THE VISOR WOULD NOT STAY IN A FIXED POSITION UP OR DOWN. CURRENTLY, I TAPED IT UP TO OLD IT OUT OF MY FIELD OF VISION FOR DRIVING UNTIL I CAN GET IT TO THE DEALER. I CERTAINLY HOPE THIS IS COVERED UNDER THE 5 YR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. *TR
SOME TIMES WHEN STARTING THE CAR WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE RPMS GO UP TO ABOUT 1200 AND THEN DOWN TO 800 RPMS. WHEN MY FOOT IS REMOVED FROM THE BRAKE THE CAR WANTS TO ACCELERATE AND GO ON ITS OWN OFTEN. WHILE STOPED AT A STOP SIGN OR STOPED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE CAR WILL LURCH FORWARD WHEN RELEASED, SOME TIMES SPINNING THE TIRES. IT IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE AFTER RETURNING FROM A 5000 MILE TRIP IN JUNE, 2013. THE CAR PURCHASED NEW AND HAS A AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH APROX. 65000 MILES TOTAL ON THE CAR. WHILE DRIVING HOME, I BRAKED TO TURN INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. MY FRIEND WHOM WAS FOLLOWING ME STATED THAT MY REAR BRAKES DID NOT COME ON WHEN I BRAKE. I HAD DRIVE THE CAR TO A FRIENDS GARAGE, PLACE THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, DETACH THE BATTERY IN ORDER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. *TR

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN THIS HAPPENED,IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO PUMP GAS. WHEN I AM PUMPING THE GAS IT BACKS UP AND SPLASHES BACK OUT THE OPENING. I HAVE NOTICED FOR MONTHS BEGINNING IN MAY OF THIS YEAR MY ESC LIGHT WOULD COME ON, THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND OFF INTERMITENTLY.I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE.THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY FOR THREE MONTHS, AND ALL COSTS WOULD BE MY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR.THE MANAGER ALSO ASK ME IF MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OUT ,BECAUSE OF PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH. I RETURNED HOME AND FOUND ALL OF MY BRAKE LIGHTS OUT, I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS.I DISCOVERD ON LINE THAT ALL 2009 SONATAS WERE RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM THAT WERE MANUFACTURED AFTER JAN 01,2009, I WAS TOLD THIS BY HYUBDAI MOTOR COMPANY WHEN I CALL THEM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER TO HAVE MY VEHICLE FIXED UNDER THE RECALL , CASE # 5994137. I RECEIVED A CALL BACK FROM THE SAME REPERSENTATIVE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE CURRENT CAMPAIGN BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED ON FEB 22, 2008 AND THE CURRENT CAMPAIGN WERE FOR 2009 SONATAS MANUFACTRED AFTER JAN 01,2009.I THEN TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY OWN MECHANIC FOR TESTING AND REPAIR HE FOUND THAT THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH WAS BAD AND I HAD IT REPLACE. IT IS TOO CONSEQUENTIAL THAT A CAR MANUFACTURED 9 MONTHS LATER AFTER MY VEHICLE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I EXPERIENCE. I FIND THAT THE SAME PART USED IN THE SONATAS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED 9 MONTHS AFTER MY VEHICLE ,IS THE SAME PART THAT WAS PUT IN MY VEHICLE YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A ROCKET SCIENTIST TO UNDERSTAND THIS !!! THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO FLASH WHEN THERE IS NO ONE IN THE SEAT. TOOK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT IS SUPPOSE TO FLASH WHEN FIRST START UP THE CAR, BUT I LET THEM KNOW THAT IT ON THE ENTIRE TIME I AM DRIVING. THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FAILS TO STAY IN HOME POSITION. FALLS DOWN IN FRONT OF DRIVERS VISION. *TR
I HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. THE ROTORS WERE WARPED FROM THE PADS CONSTANTLY RUBBING ON THEM. CLEARLY THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I SEE. MY MECHANIC COULD NOT BELIEVE THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE ROTORS AND TOLD ME THE FRONT BRAKES USUALLY WEAR FIRST. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE VEHICLE IN TWICE FOR THE ROUGH DONE SHIFTING THAT OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD. THE DEALERSHIP REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION BOTH TIMES BUT THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE ESC LIGHT STAYING ON BUT THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. *TR
THE "CHROME" PLATING IS PEELING OFF OF THE INTERIOR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE USED TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE PEELED PLATING HAS SHARP EDGE AND I CUT MY FINGER ON IT. I CERTAINLY HOPE THIS WILL BE COVERED UNDER THE 5 YR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. *TR
STRANGE GAS SMELL WHEN CAR IS TURNED ON AND OFF. SPECIALLY AFTER RIDDING VEHICLE AND STOPPING CAR FOR A FEW AND RESTARTING. THE SMELL COMES THRU AIR VENTS. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY STATED NOTHING SHOWS UP IN THEIR COMPUTER. MPG HAS DROPPED TO AROUND 24 ON HIGHWAY AND CITY TO AROUND 16 MPG AND THIS IS A 4 CYLINDER VEHICLE. HAVE BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE LOCATED SEVERAL SITES STATING SAME PROBLEM. *TR
