BACK IN DECEMBER, 2018, I NOTICED TWO LARGE CRACKS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DASHBOARD WHERE THE AIR BAG IS. THE CRACKS HAVE ONLY BEEN GETTING LONGER AND I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY... THE AIRBAG CAN DEPLOY AT ANY TIME OR THE AIRBAG POSSIBILITY WON'T DEPLOY IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO HYUNDAI AND THE HYUNDAI EXECUTIVES, AS THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI AND THE SONATAS AND THEY WILL NOT TDO ANYTHING TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD FOR USING DEFECTIVE MATERIALS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SOMETHING THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD RECALL AND FIX.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS ENGINE DEBRIS THAT HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED FROM THE CRANKSHAFT DURING VEHICLE PRODUCTION. THE FAILURE INCREASED THE RISK OF THE VEHICLE STALLING. THE CONTACT CALLED NHTSA AND WAS REFERRED TO THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION TO REPORT THAT HE WAS SOLD A VEHICLE IN OCTOBER OF 2018 THAT WAS FAULTY AND INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V137000 (SEAT BELTS, AIR BAGS). THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO JOHN AMATO HYUNDAI (8301 N 76TH ST, MILWAUKEE, WI 53223, (414) 616-3220), BUT THE ENGINE WAS NOT INSPECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. A CASE MANAGER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE MANUFACTURER ON HOW THE VEHICLE WOULD BE DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,900.
TURBO CHARGER FAILS TO ENGAGE RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE'S DANGEROUSLY MINIMAL SPEED AND INABILITY TO KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC FLOW. ACCELERATION IS SLUGGISH AT BEST AFTER REPLACING VARIOUS TURBO COMPONENTS.
HAD MOTOR REPLACED FROM A PREVIOUS RECALL, 4DAYS AFTER THIS FIX I NOTICED A ROUGH IDLE. WENT TO NUMEROUS SHOPS INCLD DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT RECALL WAS DONE AND ANY OTHER REPAIRS WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET. PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSED FROM ROUGH IDLE AND ENGINE NOISE TO POOR ACCELERATION AND MISTIMED BOOSTS. AS IN WHEN ENTERING HIGHWAY CAR DOESNT ACCELERATE VERY FAST VERY LONG DELAY BEFORE BOOST INTIATES. ONCE AT DESIRED SPEED WHEN SLOWING DOWN CAR BOOSTS WITHOUT PRESSURE TO ACCELERTATOR!!! NOW THAT WINTER HAS ARRIVED, SPORADICALLY ON COLD START CAR IDLES EVEN ROUGHER AND SOUNDS AS IF IT WITH SHUT OFF. WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC CAR IDLES ROUGH THEN SHUTS OFF!! NO POWER STEERING! NO LIGHTS ! NO POWER! THIS HAPPENED WHILST CAR IS IN DRIVE AND IN MOTION! I TRY TO AVOID HWYS AND NIGHT TIME DRIVING WHEN I CAN AS IM SCARED TO DEATH OF THIS CAR. I PURCHASED IT USED IN DEC2017 11 DAYS LATER INTIAL ISSUES BEGAN WITH CAR LOOSING POWER. NOW AFTER ISSUE WAS "FIXED" BY REPLACEMENT MOTOR SAME INTERMEDIATE LOST OF POWER ISSUES AGAIN BUT WITH THE ADDED BOOSTING ISSUE AS WELL NOW.
DRIVING HOME ON NOVEMBER 24TH 2018 I WAS ON A GRAM TO MARKET ROAD AND A DEER JUMPED IN FRONT OF THE CAR. WHEN I WENT TO BRAKE AND THE CAR MADE A HIGH SCREETCH AND DIDN'T STOP. WHEN I HIT THE DEER NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. IT HAD JUST BEEN RETURNED TO ME FROM THE PREVIOUS ENGINE RECALL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A DEER. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V137000 (SEAT BELT, AIR BAGS). A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL COLLISION CENTER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. IT WAS NOT YET DETERMINED IF THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,444.
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA 2.4 IN WHICH I PURCHASED FROM A DEALER AND THE CAR IS CURRENTLY USING OIL. UNDER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I HAVE READ UP ON THE RECALL FOR THE ENGINES AND SEE THAT MANY WERE REPLACED UNDER A "RECALL" I CONTACTED HYUNDAI RECALL SUPPORT AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A LOCAL DEALER IN WHICH I DID. MY CAR HAD THE AIRBAG RECALL PERFORMED AND I ASKED ABOUT THE ENGINE RECALL IN IN TURN THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE HAD BEEN "CHECKED" BY PREVIOUS DEALER BUT NOT REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. THE CAR HAS ALL THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL NEEDING TO BE PERFORMED ON THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY BUT THEY REFUSE TO HELP ME BECAUSE THE DEALER STATES ITS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL MILAGE SLOT. I FEEL AS IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE ENGINE AS A SAFETY RECALL THAT THE ENGINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE PREVIOUS DEALER BEFORE IT WAS SOLD FROM THEM. INSTEAD I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE AND UNKNOWINGLY HAVE A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. I BELIEVE A SAFETY RECALL IS A SAFETY RECALL. SHOULDN'T MATTER THE MILAGE. IT'S ALMOST AS IF HYUNDAI IS SAYING "WELL IF IT'S MADE IT THIS FAR THEN SCREW IT" THE VEHICLE IS USING OIL AND HAS METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL
TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY KEEPS FAILING. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES 3 TIMES EACH TIME COST AROUND $480.00. I'VE REPLACED BULBS CONSTANTLY THAT KEEP MELTING AND HAVING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY
VEHICLE TRAVELING WEST BOUND INTERSTATE 80, 3 MILES WEST OF WEST BRANCH, IOWA ON NOVEMBER 18,2018. SPEED 65 MPH WENT TO PASS TRAFFIC BY APPLY THROTTLE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, CAR MADE SOUND OF OVER REVVING. WHITE SMOKE APPEARED FROM UNDERNEATH HOOD EQUALLY ON BOTH SIDES. IMMEDIATELY STEERED CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED SMOKE CAME FROM CAR VENTS. LEFT VEHICLE WHITE SMOKE BECAME MORE INTENSE FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE. FRONT OF VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE ENTIRE VEHICLE ENGULFED IN FLAMES WITHIN 4 MINUTES ATTEMPT TO PASS TRAFFIC. 911 CALLED IOWA HIGHWAY PATROL AND IOWA CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED. VEHICLE TOTAL LOSS NO INJURIES OTHER THAN SMOKE INHALATION OF THE 2 OCCUPANTS. VEHICLE SINGLE OWNER NO ACCIDENT HISTORY, ENGINE RECALL BY HYUNDAI COMPLIED WITH AND NO PROBLEM DETECTED.
TL* THE CONTACT CALLED ON BEHALF OF THE OWNER OF A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE A SHOPPING MALL, THE STEERING COLUMN SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DAYTONA HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 901 N NOVA RD, DAYTONA BEACH, FL 32117, (877) 365-8991) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,351.
THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS BURN OUT, THE HOUSING UNIT OR LENSES MELT AND THE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, REPLACEMENT OF LIGHT BULBS ARE CONTINUOUS AND THE LIGHTS SEEM TO HAVE SOME SORT OF SHORTAGE. THEY WORK SOMETIMES AND SOMETIMES THEY DO NOT.
I WAS DRIVING AND THEN THE ENGINE STOP WITH ANY REASON SO PAID A TOW TRUCK AND HEADED BACK HOME I CALL A TECHNICIAN HE CHECK EVERYTHING TAIMING CHAINS OIL SYSTEM COUNTERCHAFT ALSO HE TRIED TO ROTATE THE ENGINE AND DOESN'T MOVE AT THE END HE TELLS ME THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE
STEERING WHEEL MAKES CLICKING NOISE WHILE TURNING AND WHEN GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS, POTHOLES ETC
DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE DOESN'T CATCH ALL THE TIME, FREQUENTLY NEED TO TRY SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT TO CATCH. ITS BEEN GOING ON FOR QUITE A WHILE. HOWEVER, I REMEMBERED DURING ANOTHER SERVICE TO THE DEALER YESTERDAY FOR THEM TO CHECK IT. THEY REPLACED IT BUT CHARGED ME $484. SEAT BELT BUCKLE MAY BE DEFECTIVE. HOW COULD I HAVE WORN IT OUT?!

FAMILY HYUNDAI (8101 W 159TH ST, TINLEY PARK, IL 60477, (708) 444-7100) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
"FIRE HAZARD" RECEIVED AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT UNDER HYUNDAI ENGINE RECALL, I PICKED-UP THE CAR ON 09-13-18. I'VE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS OCCUR IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS. ONE OF THE MAIN ISSUES IS A FUEL/GASOLINE SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN AND AROUND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NOW THERE IS EXTREMELY STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WHENEVER I JUST TURN ON THE IGNITION WITHOUT STARTING THE CAR. I ALSO NOTICE THAT THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF GASOLINE ON THE GROUND UNDER THE ENGINE AREA. I READ THAT SOME CARS ARE CATCHING ON FIRE AFTER HYUNDAI REPLACED THE ENGINES UNDER THE ENGINE RECALL. MY CONCERN IS FOR SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. THERE IS POTENTIAL THAT MY CAR MAY/WILL CATCH ON FIRE. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN OVER THREE WEEKS. I'VE FILED A COMPLAINT ON 12-03-2018 WITH HYUNDAI MOTORS(CASE # 13222827) BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY UPDATES AS OF YET.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the the passengers side tail light failed. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the tail light needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the failure reoccurred and was taken back to the independent mechanic where they stated the harness had melted and advised that he go to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the passenger's side tail light harness was charred and deformed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a second time where it was informed that the harness or housing had been scorched and the tail light socket melted. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the accelerator had been depressed but the vehicle was slowing down. The contact managed to drive home safely. The following day the vehicle did not start. The vehicle was towed to the independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the battery failed due to the tail light being illuminated all night. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,000.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE LIGHT BULB EVERY MONTH FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS. THEY HAVE GOTTEN HOT ENOUGH TO MELT THE HOLE YOU INSERT THEM INTO AND THEN CANNOT BE TAKEN OUT BECAUSE THE HEAT MADE THE HOLE SMALLER

THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY TWO SEPARATE INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
DEC 2016 SONATA STALLED OUT SUDDENLY WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT 75 M.P.H. ON A RURAL HIGHWAY. THE DEALERSHIP TOOK THE CAR FOR THREE MONTHS RETURNING IT IN MARCH 2017 HAVING, SUPPOSEDLY, REPLACED THE ENGINE PER COURT ORDER. NOW, FALL 2018 I MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR NOW AFTER IF HAS BEEN USING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL EVEN AFTER A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND HAS TROUBLE WITH HOLDING RPM NORMAL WHILE ASSENING OR DESCENDING HILLS. WHEN THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT APPEARS BRIEFLY FOR ONE MINUTE IT IS ONLY AT THE POINT WHEN THE DIP STICK SHOWS NO OIL AT ALL. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSTIC HAS REVEALED THE NEED FOR YET ANOTHER NEW ENGINE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE COST SAYING THAT THEY ONLY PROVIDE A 12 MONTH OR 12,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE REPLACED ENGINE. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THEY EVEN GAVE ME A NEW ENGINE TO BEGIN WITH. THEY GAVE ME ONE BY ENGINE IN EXCHANGE FOR ANOTHER BAD ENGINE AND ARE TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH NOT A "BREACH OF IMPLIED WARRANTY." ALL PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR GO UNDETECTED BY THE COMPUTER AND HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING AT FULL SPEED.

CAR WAS IN MOTION AND DECELERATED IN BUSY CITY STREET TRAFFIC 55MPH 2WAY STREET. CAR COASTED AND WITHIN SECONDS CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. WOULD NOT RESTART. ENGINE LIGHT LIT. I BELIEVE THE ENGINE IS DEFECTIVE. PREVIOUSLY COMPLAINED TO DEALER ABOUT MIDDLE GLOVE BOX OVERHEATING FROM ENGINE. AIR WAS REROUTED BUT WAS TOLD ENGINE COULDN'T BE REPLACED UNLESS IT DIED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROMISED TO CALL THE CONTACT BACK. THE CONTACT WAS NOT CALLED BACK. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 18V934000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE, ENGINE) AND 18V137000 (SEAT BELTS, AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,701. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V934000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE, ENGINE) AND PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V137000 (SEAT BELTS, AIR BAGS).
I WAS PULLING INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND HEARD A LOUD CRACK, SO I PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SAW THAT MY DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE WAS SLANTING INWARD (SEE PICTURES). I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND SAID THAT THE CONTROL ARM WAS CRACKED AND THAT THERE WAS RUST/CORROSION AROUND THAT AREA ON THE SUBFRAME. NOW IT'S AT THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED...A VERY COSTLY REPAIR (REAR CROSSLINK/SUBFRAME). THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY/MAJOR ROAD AND THIS HAPPENED I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. LUCKILY IT HAPPENED IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD! THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS TYPE OF ISSUE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE'S BEEN A RECALL BEFORE ON THE RUST/SUSPENSION PROBLEMS HYUNDAI HAS HAD.
TAKATA RECALL I WAS DRIVING IN CARROLTON, GA ONE EVENING AND WAS PULLED OVER BY AN OFFICER AND WAS TOLD BOTH OF MY BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING AT OR AROUND THE SAME TIME HE GAVE ME UNTIL NOV. 27TH, 2018 TO GET THEM FIXED. I WAS AT FIRST REPLACING THE BULBS AND THEY WOULD BURN OUT. I STARTED CALLING AROUND TO DIFFERENT SHOPS TO GET THEM FIXED AND THEY WERE ALL TELLING ME THE SAME THING. THAT IS HAS BECOME VERY COMMON WITH MY CAR( HYUNDAI SONATA) AND THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE SYSTEM. I FOUND OUT THAT IS WHAT I HAVE TO DO AND A TOTAL OF $500 TO GET BOTH DONE. I MISSED MY DUE DATE TO GET THWM FIXED BECAUSE IT WASNT A SIMPLE REPLACE THE LIGHT BULB FIXED AND REQUIRED MORE MONEY. IF THIS IS TRUE WHY HAVEN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ON THE BRAKE LIGHTS? BRAKE LIGHTS ARE VERY IMPORTANT AND UNSAFE IF THAT ARE NOT WORKING HENCE WHY IT IS AGAINST THE LAW. IF MOST LR ALL YOUR CARS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM YOU SHOULD BE THE ONES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

THE CONTACT HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WHERE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE ENGINE APPEARED TO BE BLOWN. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY REMAINED AT THE CONTACT'S HOUSE AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER (SMART CHOICE AUTO GROUP, 17650 NORTHWEST FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77065, (713) 933-1003) WAS CONTACTED, BUT A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT WAS NOT SCHEDULED. ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2018, I WAS IN A PARKING STRUCTURE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO PARK. I WAS ON THE RAMP TO THE 2ND FLOOR WHEN FOR NO APPARENT REASON, MY CAR ACCELERATED AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND MY VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY QUICKLY REVERSED BACKWARDS AND HIT THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE BACK AND FORTH LIKE A BUMPER CAR. I WAS TRYING TO PRESS THE BREAK BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I STARTED SCREAMING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF CONTROL. AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH ABOUT 5 TIMES BEFORE BEING STOPPED BY THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THIS ALL HAPPENED.
ON 10/10/18 MY VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN 10 MILES. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT SUBSEQUENTLY BURST INTO FLAMES. 911 WAS CALLED AND THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED. THERE WAS NOT A CRASH PRECEDING THE FIRE. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND HOOD AREA OF THE VEHICLE WAS BURNED RENDERING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. A CLAIM HAS BEEN FILED WITH INSURANCE AND A REPORT WAS GENERATED BY THE THOMASTON FIRE AND THOMASTON POLICE DEPARTMENT. PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE ARE ATTACHED.

FIRST ISSUE OCCURRED IN MY JOB'S PARKING LOT ,AS I TRIED TO CRANK MY CAR IT MADE A ROARING START AND DIDN'T WANT TO STAY ON. CUT THE CAR OFF, CHECKED OIL. THERE WAS BARELY ANY ON THE STICK (JUST GOT AN OIL CHANGE ON 09/21/18 AT HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP). ADDED 2 QTS HAD MOM DRIVE TO DEALERSHIP PER SERVICEMAN REQUEST. THEY CHANGED MY OIL AND INFORMED MY MOM OF AN ONGOING ISSUE. WELL GET OFF HEADED HOME, ON REGULAR COUNTY ROAD HEADLIGHTS FLASHED OFF AND ON ALONE WITH RADIO CONSOLE. PULLED OVER LIGHTS STAYED ON, BUT I NOTICE TAILLIGHT THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS WAS OUT AGAIN. TRIED TO REPLACE IT AND THE WIRE WAS HOT AND BULB WOULDN'T COME OUT. SO, I DECIDED TO WAIT TILL I GET HOME. BUT NOW I'M WAITING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE MY ENGINE LIGHT IS ON
I HAVE BEEN HAVING TO CONSTANTLY REPLACE MY TAIL AND BRAKE LIGHTS SINCE OCTOBER OF 2018. I BELIEVE THERE IS SOME TYPE OF SHORT WITH THE SOCKETS. ONE MOMENT THE LIGHTS ARE ON, THE NEXT THE ARE NOT. OR, ONE SIDE IS WORKING AND THE NEXT MOMENT, THE OTHER SIDE IS NOT. I SEE THIS WHEN USING THE FOB TO UNLOCK THE DOORS OR SOMEONE TELLS ME THE LIGHTS ARE OUT. I HAVE HAD TO PHYSICALLY ADJUST THE BULB SOCKET FOR THE LIGHT TO COME ON.

MY STEERING WHEEL STICKS IN ONE POSITION WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE ASKED THE DEALER I TAKE MY CAR TO ABOUT IT AND AT FIRST THEY SAID THERE WAS NO ISSUE. I MENTIONED IT AGAIN AND THE LEAD SERVICE TECH EXPLAINED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE. THATS ALL FINE EXCEPT IF YOU ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE THEN I AM BY NO MEANS THE FIRST PERSON TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED THAT ONE DAY IT WILL FINALLY LOCK UP COMPLETELY. I WILL CONTINUE TO LOSE POWER SO I HAVE TO TRY TO LEAVE HIGHWAY OR PULL OVER, WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS ON A HIGH SPEED ROAD. IT HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES SINCE AUGUST 2018. JUST TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP BUT FIRST TWO TIMES THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM WHILE TEST DRIVING IT AND ALL DIAGNOSIS INDICATED THE CAR IS FINE. I SEE IN SOME WEB SITES THAT OTHER USERS NATION-WIDE HAVE HAD THE VERY SAME PROBLEM BUT WITH NO RESOLUTION AT HAND. THIS IS A VERY CONCERNING SAFETY ISSUE AS THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST RUN INTO ME AS MY CAR LOST POWER AND SPEED RAPIDLY AND STARTED TO BUCK/STUTTER.

SEEMS LIKE SOME PROGRAMMING TO THE FOB HAS BEEN LOST; DASHBOARD WOULD TURN ON AND SAY"KEY NOT IN VEHICLE" OR "INSERT KEY" WHEN DEPRESSING THE PUSH/START BUTTON. APPARENTLY, DEALERSHIPS ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT MAY NOT ACTUALLY REPORT IT AND TREAT AS SOMETHING ELSE ONLY AFTER NUMEROUS OTHER REPAIRS. YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF THESE ISSUES AS I'VE DESCRIBED ARE AVAILABLE. VEHICLE IS STATIONERY WHEN THIS HAPPENS; THEN IT WOULD WORK AND THEN STOP AGAIN IN A FEW DAYS. "TAKATA RECALL" 9/29/2017 MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA 2.0T ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO LOST OF POWER WHILE ACCELERATING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO USUALLY WORKS ON MY CAR AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN. COME TO FIND OUT THEY SAID THE MOTOR WAS LOCKING UP AND THEY WOLD SUBMIT A FORM TO HYUNDAI TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REPLACE MY ENGINE. 07/05/2018 MY CAR HAS DONE THE SAME THING AND THE DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE THIS TIME EVEN THOUGH ITS BEEN LESS THAN A YEAR SINCE THEY REPLACED IT LAST TIME AND I HAVE BEEN REGULARLY GETTING MY OIL CHANGED.

WHEN I CHECKED ONLINE IT SHOWS THAT THERE IS NOT ANY REMEDIES AVAILABLE. I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE EVERYDAY WITH MY 3 CHILDREN IN THE CAR. HEAVEN FORBID I GET IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND THE AIRS BAGS DO NOT DEPLOY, WHO KNOWS WHAT MAY HAPPEN. THIS ISSUE REALLY NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. 3.) I NOTICED ON THE RECALL LIST THAT MY VEHICLE ALSO HAS A RECALL ON THE SEAT BELTS AS WELL; ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE IF I WERE GO GET IN A CAR ACCIDENT.

KEY FOB WILL WORK TO OPEN AND LOCK DOOR BUT NOT FOR STARTING CAR.
DRIVING FROM VA CLINIC BONHAM, TX TO HOME IN MCKINNEY, TX. AUTO FAILED TO START ON FIRST TRY, STARTED ON SECOND TRY (NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE). WENT TO LUNCH IN BONHAM. RESTARTED CAR FIRST TRY. DROVE HIGHWAY TX121 APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN MILES AND ENGINE DIED AT HIGHWAY SPEED. TRIED A ROLLING RESTART WITHOUT LUCK. PARKED AND TRIED RESTART TO NO AVAIL. SITTING IN CAR CALLING TOW TRUCK AND NOTICED SMOKE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SMOKE CONTINUED TO BE THICKER SO GOT OUT AND WAVED DOWN TRAFFIC TO GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER (NONE AVAILABLE) AND CALLED 911; EMPTIED BELONGINGS FROM CAR AND WATCHED IT BURN. FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT IT OUT BUT COMPLETELY BURNED.
