THE FIRST ISSUE IS THAT MY CAR WILL NOT START SOMETIMES. THEN AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO IT WILL START. I HAVE THE PUSH BUTTON TO START MY CAR. IT IS BEGINNING TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN IN THE LAST 6 WEEKS. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT MY STEERING WHEEL IS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING IS FAILING, MUCH LIKE THE 2011 MODEL THAT WAS RECALLED. THE STEERING COLUMN SHAKES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND "CLUNKS" TURNING THE WHEEL AT LOW OR NO SPEED. IT FEELS LESS STABLE AND LIKE MORE WORK TO DRIVE.
STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE, VIBRATES, CLICKS, VERY LOOSE STEERING, NOT GOOD CONTROL SEEMS THE STEERING WHEEL IS DEFECTIVE SOMEHOW BECAUSE THERE IS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING WETHER DRIVING STRAIGHT OR TURNING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE PREMATURELY SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE VEHICLE WAS STILL AT THE DEALER AND AWAITING A SOLUTION BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL MADE A CLICKING SOUND. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (LITHIA HYUNDAI OF ODESSA, 5000 JOHN BEN SHEPPERD PARKWAY, ODESSA, TX 79762). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 11087726. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
ON 9/29/2016, I REPORTED AN ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP (JIM BURKE AUTOMOTIVE) WITH THE STEERING MAKING A LOUD THUMP WHEN TURNING (SLIGHTLY). THE SERVICE PERSON REPORTED "CAR NEEDS MDPS COUPLING" AND THE CHARGE WOULD BE $350(!). I EXPRESSED A CONCERN THAT THIS WAS NOT A RECALL OR COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I BELIEVE IT TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. I'VE SEEN MANY POSTINGS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THE PART INVOLVED HAS BEEN REDESIGNED 2 OR 3 TIMES. ADDITIONALLY, A RESPECTED LOCAL REPAIR (ROBE MANNS) REFUSED TO MAKE THE REPAIR AND THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR WARRANTY REPAIR. I ALSO UNDERSTAND (ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER) THAT THE REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED IF THE CAR HAD UNDER 50,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE ISSUE STARTS WELL BEFORE 50,000 MILES BUT DOES NOT SEEM SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE IT IS SO SUBTLE. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WAS A REPORTED PROBLEM ON THE 2011 MODEL YEAR AND MAY HAVE HAD A RECALL - IF SO, THE 2012 SHOULD ALSO BECAUSE IT IS STILL A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM OCCURS AT ANY SPEED OR EVEN STOPPED WHEN TURNING.
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE 1/21/15 CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED W/ 39,011 4/10/15 AS I WAS DRIVING ON A TOWN ROAD DOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF ON ME AND TURNED ITSELF BACK IMMEDIATELY. THE HEAT WAS NOT ON PRIOR TO THE SHUTDOWN, BUT WHEN THE CAR TURNED BACK ON, THE BLOWERS CAME ON FULL BLAST. I EXPLAINED TO THE DEALER IT WAS LIKE MY CAR WAS POSSESSED. MECHANIC ONLY TESTED THE BATTERY AT THIS TIME, BATTERY IS FINE, CAUSE IS UNKNOWN. 8/3/15 ENGINE SEIZED WITH WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 ON A STATE HIGHWAY. ENGINE WAS REPLACED AND LATER A RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED BY THE MANUFACTURER. 9/18/16 VEHICLE SHUT OFF AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE DOING APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH WHILE SWITCHING LANES. LOST POWER STEERING BRIEFLY AND THE VEHICLE CAME RIGHT BACK ON, ALL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH, RADIO CAME BACK ON BLASTING (WAS NOT LIKE THAT PRIOR TO SHUTTING OFF). MAYBE IT WAS A COINCIDENCE OR NOT, BUT THE SECOND I TURNED MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL ON, IS WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. IT CAME BACK ON MAYBE 3 SECONDS LATER. ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP CLAIMED A LOOSE CONNECTION WITH THE BATTERY CAUSED IT, HOWEVER, THEY DID NO FURTHER TESTING OR INVESTIGATING. IT IS CURRENTLY AT ANOTHER HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP GETTING ASSESSED. FROM 2/20/15 UNTIL PRESENT, I HAVE ALSO BEEN EXPERIENCING THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY: EX. THE MODE BUTTON WILL MUTE THE VOLUME, THE CHANNEL CHANGER AND VOLUME WILL START MAKING CALLS ON MY BLUETOOTH CALL LOG OR ACTIVATE THE VOICE CONTROLS. VOLUME WILL SOMETIMES CHANGES THE CHANNEL OR WILL INCREASE INSTEAD OF DECREASE AND VICE VERSA. SOMETIMES THE CHANNEL CHANGER WILL CONTROL THE VOLUME OR MODE, THEY DO WHAT THEY WANT TO WHEN THEY WANT TO. CRUISE CONTROL IS INOPERABLE MOST OF THE TIME. I HAVE MULTIPLE VIDEOS AND HAVE SHOWN THE MECHANICS, BUT THEY CLAIM TO NEVER BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. CAUSE, STILL UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA AND THERE IS A CLICKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL. TURNED LEFT OR RIGHT THE CLICK IS THERE WEATHER THE CAR IS MOVING OR NOT. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM A MONTH AFTER I BROUGHT THIS CAR AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WASN'T ON THE RECALL LIST ONLY THE 2011 MODELS, BUT MY 2012 IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I GOT THIS CAR LAST YEAR WITH 49,000 MILES ON IT AND NOW THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE. IT SHAKES SO BAD NOW IF I HIT 65 MPH. I HAVE SMALL KIDS AND EVERY TIME I GET INTO THIS CAR THERE IS A FEAR OF ME LOSING CONTROL. I SEE SO MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS, BUT NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. HOPEFULLY IT DOES NOT TAKE FOR A COUPLE OF DEATHS TO OCCUR BEFORE HYUNDAI REALIZE THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. ALL OF US THAT OWN A HYUNDAI WITH THESE PROBLEMS ARE SCARED FOR OUR LIVES SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE AND QUICK. WE GAVE OUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO HAVE A SONATA NOW HYUNDAI NEEDS TO LOOK OUT FOR US RECALL THESE CARS PLEASE OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT!!!!!
I HAVE 2012 SONATA GLX, MOST OF THE TIME, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WENT INTO THE HOUSE TO GRAB SOMETHINGT CAME BACK OUT AND STARTED THE CAR AND NOTHING OUT OF THE SPEAKERS. EVERYTHING WORKS ON THE SCREEN, MAP, CLOCK, RADIO BUT NO SOUND FROM THE SPEAKERS EARLIER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WENT TO DEALER AND FIXED TWICE, IT IS RIDICULOUS GOING TO THE DEALER AND TO GET RECTIFIED. NOW AGAIN I HAD SAME PROBLEM, I NEED PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR THIS ISSUE. PLEASE HELP !!!
VEHICLE HAS LOOSE STEERING, VIBRATING AND MAKES ODD NOISE WHEN ACCELERATED
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON IN VEHICLE. THE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD.
THE CAR TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND THERE IS A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE CAR ALSO HESITATES, AND IT IS A LOUD ROARING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE ISSUES OCCUR WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY, IN MOTION, AND ON THE CITY STREET AND HIGHWAY. WHEN I PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKE THE CAR CUTS OFF.
THE ENGINE WAS REPAIRED, AND WHILE THE ENGINE WAS BEING WORKED ON I REPAIRED THE STEERING, NOT KNOWING IT WAS A RECALL. WHEN I FOUND OUT I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT DID THE WORK AND GOT A PRINTOUT OF RECEIPT SHOWING THAT I PAID FOR THAT RECALL, ALSO ADVISED THAT I HAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTING SYSTEM FOR THE CAR. WELL IT HAS BEEN MONTHS LATER, CAN'T SEEM TO GET A RESPONSE FROM IN REGARDS TO MY REFUND AND I WAS ADVISED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO GET THE LIGHTS CHECKED. I HAVE HAD MY LIGHTS TO GO COMPLETELY OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THAT INCLUDES INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS. I NAVE HAD THE INSIDE LIGHTS TO GO OFF AND COME BACK ON SECONDS LATER. I HAVE HAD JUST THE OUTSIDE LIGHTS TO GO OUT FOR AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING HOME. I HAVE HAD THE LIGHTS REPLACED AND THEY KEEP GOING OUT.
STEERING COLUMN HAS BECOME LOOSE WHEN TURNED. RATTLES BACK AND FORTH WHEN TURNING. AFTER NUMEROUS STOPS AT CAR REPAIR PLACES, FINALLY FOUND A PLACE IN A VERY TINY TOWN WHO KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG. THIS IS THE THIRD CAR THEY HAVE SAID YHEY HAVE REPAIRED. HYUNDAI APPARENTLY KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE AS THIS SHOP HAD TO WAIT AS THE PART WAS SERIOUSLY BACK ORDERED. FORTUNATELY THEY ORDERED EXTRAS AS THE OWNERS MOTHER HAS THE SAME VEHICLE. JUST WAITING FOR HERS TO FALL APART. HE ALSO SHOWED ME THE NEW PART(COG WHEEL) AD AN OLD CHEWED UP ONE OFF A REPAIR. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL AND REIMBURSE ALL WHO HAVE PAID FOR THE REPAIR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED VIOLENTLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE OUT OF THE LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,200.
THE STEERING CLICKS WHEN I BACK THE CAR UP AND TURN THE WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. THIS IS HOW THE PROBLEM STARTED. NOW, OVER A TWO-MONTH PERIOD, IT MAKES THE SAME SOUND WHEN MOVING FORWARD SLOWLY AND TURNING THE WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. *TR
I HAVE HAD SEVERAL MALFUNCTIONS WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT IS LESS THAN 6 YEARS OLD. IT STARTED WITH CLICKING IN THE WHEEL, KEY STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND NOW MY AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AND THAT IS A MALFUNCTION IN THE SYSTEM. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYTHING IS A MALFUNCTION THAT SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING TO A CAR LESS THAN 6 Y/O. MY CAR STAY IN THE SHOP FOR SOME REASON OR ANOTHER. I CAN HONESTLY SAY I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER HYUNDAI OF ANY KIND.
I DRIVE 45 MINUTES ON THE OPEN HIGHWAY BETWEEN FORT COLLINS, CO AND CHEYENNE, WY EACH DAY. AS I ARRIVED IN CHEYENNE AND EXITED THE FREEWAY I MADE ONE TURN TO THE RIGHT ON TO MISSLE DR AND WAS ROLLING FORWARD WHEN THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. EVERYTHING STOPPED WORKING. I MANAGED TO MAKE A TURN TO THE LEFT AND COAST SLIGHTLY UP THE HILL NEAR THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, NOTHING WORKED AND I COULD SMELL AND SEE ELECTRICAL SMOKE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND MELTED THE STARTER. I DID SEE SMOKE BUT NO FLAMES. I AM VERY THANKFUL THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AT 75 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE BETWEEN FT COLLINS AND CHEYENNE. AT THIS TIME I'M WAITING TO HEAR IF MY CAR IS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL.
STEERING COUPLER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED MAKES LOUD KNOCKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING OVER NUMBS OR TURNING.SEEMS TO BE AN OCCURRING PROBLEM WITH SONATA 2012. DEALER WANTS $550 TO REPLACE A $2 PART. THAT'S CORRECT A $2 PART LOCATED IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS AND A SCAM THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND MADE A RECALL ASAP.
WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT THERE IS A LOUD CLICKING NOISE REGARDLESS OF WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED OR DRIVING. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE FROM EVERYTHING I'VE READ FROM PEOPLE AND EVEN THE DEALERSHIP KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL DUE TO SAFETY REASONS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY DECELERATED AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLASHED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE UNDERNEATH THE FRONT END. THE POLICE EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE, BUT A FIRE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,658.
I HAVE NOTICED A KNOCK IN MY STEERING WHEEL. THE NOISE IS GETTING WORSE AND THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES WHEN MY TIRES GO OVER A BUMP. I WILL BE BRINGING IT INTO THE SHOP IN A FEW DAYS TO GET REPAIRED. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM THAT COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS ITEM, AS IT IS UNSAFE TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IF THIS DOESN'T WARRANT A RECALL OR CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, I'M NOT SURE WHAT DOES. MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY WHEN THIS ISSUE BEGAN, BUT HAS GOT EXCESSIVELY WORSE. I JUST RAN OUT ON MY 1000,000 MILE WARRANTY, BY ABOUT 250 MILES.
SRS LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH ALL SONATAS
LAST WEEK, MY POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE EPS DASHBOARD TROUBLE LIGHT AS WELL AS THE AIRBAG AND ESC LAMPS ALL ILLUMINATED AT THE SAME TIME. THANKFULLY, THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC AT THE TIME SO WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE TO REGAIN MY COMPOSURE. USING EXTREME CAUTION, I DROVE THE NEXT FEW MILES BACK HOME CAREFULLY AVOIDING ANY SUDDEN SITUATIONS WHERE I WAS FORCED TO MAKE SHARP TURNS. I HAD AN EXTREMELY HARD TIME STEERING. YESTERDAY, I TOOK THE VEH INTO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS, THEY SAID THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THAT SOMEHOW IT WAS ALSO CAUSING ALL THE OTHER UNRELATED TROUBLE LAMPS TO LIGHT AT THE SAME TIME!. APPROX. $1200 REPAIR COST. THE VEH IS 2012 WITH 82,000 MILES. I ASKED IF IT WAS COVERED BY THE 100K MILE WARRANTY. THEY SAID NO. AFTER ONLY 4 YEARS OF OWNING THIS CAR, I CAN'T BELIEVE THE STEERING COLUMN BROKE. I NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE. I WENT ON-LINE AND NOTICED THAT 2011 SONATA'S HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM THE YEAR PRIOR AND AS A RESULT, THERE WAS A NATIONAL RECALL TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING FAULTY EQUIPMENT. I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK THAT PERHAPS THE SAME FAULTY EQUIPMENT WAS PERHAPS INSTALLED IN SOME OF THE 2012'S ALSO.
ON AUGUST 06, 2016 I DISCOVERED A NOISE EMITTING FROM MY STEERING WHEEL. ON MONDAY AUGUST 08, 2016 I WENT TO MY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR AN OPINION. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN/WRITER INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS A RUBBER BUSHING IN THE STEERING WHEEL COUPLER HAS STARTED TO SHOW SIGN OF DETERIORATION. THIS MUST BE REPLACED AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY. FAILURE TO DO SO IN A TIMELY MANNER WILL RENDER THE STEERING UNUSABLE. FAILURE OF STEERING CONTROL WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. SUCH ACCIDENT WILL CAUSE BODILY INJURY AND OR DEATH. RESEARCHING THE SYMPTOM AND CAUSE ON-THE-INTERNET, I CAME ACROSS RECALLS AND CONCERNS BY HYUNDAI IN REGARD TO SAFETY ISSUES THAT WILL RESULT IN POWER STEERING LOSS THUS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH TO OTHERS AND SELF. IT MUST BE NOTED THAT HYUNDAI, IN THE PAST, ACTED PROACTIVELY TO PREVENT A RECALL...I HOPE THIS COMPLAINT WILL BE A CASE TO CONSIDER. COMPLAINTS FOR A 2012 YEAR VEHICLE WITH FAILED MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING("MDPS") FLEXIBLE COUPLING. HIS VERY FIRST QUESTION AFTER DESCRIBING MY CONCERN IS "WHAT YEAR IS YOUR VEHICLE". ACCORDING TO THE HARBOR HYUNDAI TECHNICAL WRITER, THIS CONCERN IS NOW BECOMING A REGULAR OCCURRENCE. A COMPARATIVE OF A GOOD AND BAD (CHEWED-UP) MDPS COUPLING WAS SHOWN TO ME. THIS MDPS COUPLING SPACER SITS BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH. THIS VEHICLE WAS BUILT IN FEBRUARY 2012. I TRUST, ALL COMPONENTS INSTALLED IN ITS ASSEMBLY WAS NOT PART OF 2011. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS MADE TO THE DEALER THAT IS RELATIVE TO MY VEHICLE PERTINENT TO 2011 RECALLS. FEEL FREE TO ACCESS DATA HISTORY FROM HARBOR HYUNDAI, CA. THIS IS A BLANKET AUTHORIZATION TO ACCESS SERVICE, REPAIRS AND CONCERNS REPORTED. IN SOME CASES, THEY ARE STILL OUTSTANDING SUBJECT TO A REMEDY. I HAVE TRIED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES TO GET MY RECALL SERVICED AT HOOMAN HYUNDAI IN INGLEWOOD, CA AND THEY HAVE REFUSED TO WORK ON MY CAR. I KEEP GETTING EXCUSES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ALMOST A YEAR. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THEM TO CHECK MY ENGINE BECAUSE IT CAN STALL.
OIL FEEDER LINE LEAKED. THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE 2011 VEHICLES. OCCURRED JUST OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD. HYUNDAI WOULD NOT REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 2012 MODELS AS WELL.
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL LAST YEAR. FINALLY, IN FEBRUARY 2016, HYUNDAI HAD A FIX FOR THE MANUFACTURER'S ALLEGED METAL DEBRIS THAT WAS GETTING INTO THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS SERVICED AND DETERMINED ALL WAS WELL. TODAY, JUNE 21, 2016, THE CAR STALLED WHILE LEAVING FOR WORK. I RESTARTED THE CAR SUCCESSFULLY; HOWEVER, MILLISECONDS LATER, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THIS KEPT HAPPENING EVERY TIME I RESTARTED THE CAR. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER A FEW QUOTES, RANGING FROM $500 TO $1600+, AND THE HYUNDAI DEALER ADVISING THAT THE OIL CONTROL VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED -- THAT "IT HAD AN EXTRA HOLE IN IT THAT WAS NOT FROM THE MANUFACTURER". THEY ALSO ADVISED THAT AFTER REPLACING THIS VALVE, THE ISSUE STILL MAY NOT BE RESOLVED. ADDITIONAL REPAIRS AND LABOR WOULD NEED TO BE DONE -- AT MY EXPENSE. I INQUIRED IF IT HAD TO DO ANYTHING WITH THE RECENT RECALL (MENTIONED ABOVE). SHE ADVISED , 'NO'. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THESE TWO INCIDENTS OR ISSUES ARE UNRELATED. AFTER READING ABOUT THE MANY SONATA OWNERS THAT HAVE HAD ENGINE TROUBLE, I'M AFRAID TO EVEN DRIVE THIS CAR ANYMORE.

I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ON I-65 IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA AND MY SUNROOF EXPLODED. IT SOUNDED LIKE A BOMB GOING OFF AND SHATTERED PIECES OF GLASS HIT THE CARS BEHIND ME. NOTHING HIT MY CAR. I WASN'T GOING UNDER AN OVERPASS, NOR WERE THERE TRUCKS AROUND ME. THE DEALERSHIP NOR HYUNDAI WILL REPLACE IT SO I WILL HAVE TO FILE A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE AND PAY A $500 DEDUCTIBLE. HYUNDAI HAS RECALLED OTHER VEHICLES (VELOSTER) FOR THIS EXACT SAME REASON BUT WILL NOT FIX THE SITUATION WITH THE SONATAS! MY CAR HAS THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF, JUST LIKE THE VELOSTERS. IN THE MEAN TIME, MY CAR IS NOT FIXED AND THE REPAIR IS VERY EXPENSIVE. IN NEED OF HELP AND I WAS OUT OF TOWN VACATIONING WITH FAMILY LEAVING ORLANDO FLORIDA WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURED ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING SLOW UP IN TRAFFIC. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH.
