TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A LOUD TAPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE NOISE CONTINUED WHILE DRIVING AND LASTED APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I STARTED HEAR NOISES COMING FROM MY ENGINE. I PULLED OVER SOMEWHERE SAFE AND EVENTUALLY HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO A HYUNDAI DEALER. I'M NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CALL SO THE DEALER TELLS ME I CANT USED THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. I HAVE ANOTHER WARRANTY COMPANY WHO WANTS THE DEALER SHIP TO COME TO A FINAL DECISION AS TO WHY MY ENGINE STOPPED WORKING. THERE WAS NO SLUDGE IN MY OIL PAN BUT THERE US METAL WHICH OBLIVIOUSLY MEANS SOMETHING MESSED UP ON THE INSIDE. HYUNDAI IS TELLING ME UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL THEY FURTHER INVESTIGATE WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE AND WYNN IS TELLING THEM THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR MY VEHICLE UNLESS THEY HAVE THE SPECIFIC REASON AS TO WHY A ENGINE THAT ONLY HAD 86,000 MILES STOPPED WORKING. MY HUSBAND HAS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC THAT HAS 210,000 MILES ON IT AND YET MY NEWER CAR DIES OUT AT ONLY 86,000 MILES TO ME THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE AND I'M GETTING THE RUN AROUND ON ALL ENDS. I DON'T HAVE 6000 DOLLARS TO PAY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES THAT IS WHY I GOT THE WARRANTY IN THE FIRST PLACE. MY ENGINE SHOULDN'T HAVE GONE OUT AND WITH NO WARNING!!!!!! SO NOW I'M STUCK WITHOUT A CAR, PAYING A CAR PAYMENT FOR A CAR I CANT DRIVE, AND NO WAY TO GET BACK AND FOURTH TO WORK THIS WILL CAUSE ME TO LOSE MY JOB AND NOT BE ABLE TO CARE FOR MY FAMILY SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE HESITATED BEFORE MOVING FORWARD. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THERE WAS A HIGHER CONSUMPTION OF ENGINE OIL THAN USUAL. THE ENGINE AND LOW PRESSURE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY ENGINE SEIZED WITH NO WARNING. I WAS TRAVELING DOWNHILL AND THE MOTOR JUST SHUTOFF. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO NOTIFIED ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS SEIZED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. *TR

LOW PROFILE HANCOCK TIRE 225 / 45 R18 HAS A SIDEWALLS WITH A LIP ON IT THAT EXTENDS ABOVE THE WHEEL'S .. EACH OF THE TIRES SHOWS SPOTS WHERE A PART OF THE TIRE'S LIP WAS SLICED RIGHT OFF OR IN BIG GASHES...OR IS IT TIRE ROT? . EACH GASH ARE NOTH EVEN CLOSE TO THE RIM AND SHOWS NO SIGN OF HITTING A CURB. EACH OF MY TIRES HAVE A VO U PLEASE OF THESE GASHES. DEALER SAID NOPE THATS NOT NORMAL BUT ITS HOLDING AIR SO NOTHIS THEY CAN DO. . THE NEW 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA EQUIPPED WITH THESE TIRES WAS PURCHASED IN JULY 2014.

WHENEVER I'M DRIVING FOR THE PAST 5 GOING ON 6 MONTHS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I'VE NOTICED THE STEERING COLUMN MAKES A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. NO MATTER THE SPEED I'M TRAVELING THE STEERING COLUMN CONTINUES TO MAKE THIS NOISE. I HAVE NOTICED THE ON GOING ISSUE HAS AFFECTED A LOT OF OTHER CONSUMERS ON NUMEROUS OTHER HYUNDAI SONATA YEAR MODELS! I'M AFRAID THAT IF THIS ISSUE IS LEFT UNRESOLVED THAT STEERING COLUMN MAY DETACH AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND OR DEATH!! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT COULD BE DONE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE ASAP!!!
2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO MANUFACTURERS FALSE MPG CLAIMS AND VEHICLE ACCELERATION ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER NOTICED, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS COLD, IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE COULD NOT DECIDED IF IT WANTED TO BE IN ELECTRIC OR GAS MODE, AS IT WAS CHUGGING AS THE CONSUMER WAS TRYING TO DRIVE UP THE HILL. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THAT A COMPUTER UPGRADE NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE COMPUTER WAS UPGRADED, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED ANOTHER FAILURE. IN OCTOBER 2015, THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN STOPPED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE LIGHTS FLASHED ON THE DASH, WITH A MESSAGE TO STOP SAFELY AND CHECK THE HYBRID DRIVE. *JB

I OWN A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA SE 2.0T. THE CONDITION I AM DESCRIBING HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE STARTING OUT AS SOMETHING YOU BARLEY NOTICED TO AN ISSUE THAT NOW CAUSES YOU TO BE SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR. THIS CAR HAS ABOUT 75000 MILES AND HAS A RATTLE NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN ESPECIALLY WHEN TRAVELING OVER A BUMPY SURFACE. AT HIGHER RATES OF SPEED AS ON AN INTERSTATE OR PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE IT ALSO RATTLES AND THE WHEEL BEGINS TO SHAKE IN YOUR HANDS. IT ALSO HAS A KNOCKING SOUND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND YOU ROCK THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH. THIS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THIS ISSUE IS WELL KNOWN WITH OTHER OWNERS OF 2012 SONATAS AND RECALL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR 2011 VEHICLES. AS I HAVE DISCOVERED THIS CAN BE AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR FOR RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE PARTS. OWNERS SHOULD NOT BE BURDENED WITH REPAIRS FOR WHAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER OF PART DEFECT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I HAD INTENDED TO GIVE THIS CAR TO MY DAUGHTER WHO WILL SOON BE A TEEN DRIVER. IT WOULD BE SHAMEFUL FOR AN INEXPERIENCED TEEN DRIVER'S LIFE TO BE AS RISK IN A VEHICLE WITH STEERING PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE DUE TO THE FACT HER PARENTS CANT AFFORD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OR BUY ANOTHER CAR AND THE MANUFACTURER'S UNWILLINGNESS TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. MINE IS NOT THE ONLY COMPLAINT / CONCERN OVER THIS. THERE ARE MANY UNHAPPY OWNERS OUT THERE. KEEP IN MIND THESE 2011/2012 SONATAS HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES THAT ARE WELL DOCUMENTED.
THERE HAS BEEN A LICKING SOUND WHEN I TURN MY STEERING FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS NOW. I TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND WAS TOLD THAT WHEN THEY TEST THE VEHICLE THEY DID NOT HEAR ANY SOUNDS. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO HE SOUND WAS MORE NOTICEABLE AS SOON AS THE STEERING WAS TURNED. I SOON NOTICED A KNOCKING SOUND ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WHENEVER THE ROAD IS ROUGH. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY SEPTEMBER 21 2015; I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE BOTH COUPLING WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF. THE REASON THAT FORCED ME TO BRING IT IN ON MONDAY IS THAT I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGH WAY TO WORK AND I STEPPED ON THE BREAKS AND THE STEERING STARTED TO SHAKE REALLY BAD AND I HAD A HARD TIME CONTROLLING THE CAR. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE GOTTEN A LOT OF COMPLAINS BUT THEY HAVE NOT OPENED AN INVESTIGATION ON IT AS OF YET THEREFORE THERE IS NO RECALL. I ASKED WHAT IF I HAD GOTTEN IN AN ACCIDENT; THE RESPONSE WAS IF THAT SHOULD HAPPEN THERE WOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION AND IF HYUNDAI IS AT FAULT THEN THEY WOULD COMPENSATE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT WILL EVENTUALLY KILL SOMEONE, IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE SOON. I ASKED HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE COUPLING BROKE COMPLETELY OFF AND MY CAR IS A 2012 CAR WHICH MAKES IT ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS OLD AND THEY SAID BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MILEAGE. THAT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE; I HAVE SEEN CARS 10YRS OLD AND DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. NOT ONLY THAT BUT 6MTHS AGO I ALSO HAD TO CHANGE MY GAS PUMP.

HYUNDAI BREAK SWITCH, HYUNDAI BREAK LIGHTS, SUNROOF, AIR CONDITIONING BREAK SWITCH GONE OUT FOUR TIMES. TOOK TO SAVANNAH HYUNDAI TO BE FIXED. NO FIX AS CAR CONTINUALLY DOES NOT ACCELERATE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE - ON THE HIGHWAY OR WHEN GETTING READY TO PULL OUT IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC - VERY UNSAFE. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CORP CONCERNING THIS ISSUE SINCE 2015. SAVANNAH HYUNDAI SERVICE MANAGER MIKE TOLD US THAT WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO RETURN FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY GOT FRUSTRATED TRYING TO FIGURE OUT. BREAK LIGHT NEVER WORKS. HAD THIS REPAIRED 3 TIMES. SAVANNAH HYUNDAI PUT NEW SUNROOF ON. FOUR MONTHS LATER IT WONT OPEN OR CLOSE. WE HAVE PAID FOR EVERYTHING OVER AND OVER AND OVER USING OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY AND COPAYS. EVEN IF HYUNDAI OR SAVANNAH HYUNDAI PREVIOUSLY FIXED SOMETHING AND IT WAS EVEN WITHIN 90 TO 120 DAYS THAT THE REPAIR WAS BAD, THEY NEVER OFFERED TO FIX WITHOUT CHARGE. ALWAYS MADE US REPAY FULL DEDUCTIBLE AND COSTS.. CAR DOES NOT TURN ON AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY. TRIPS GET AWFULLY HOT. SOMETIMES STARTING UP CAR AND RESTARTING FIXES. SAVANNAH HYUNDAI NEVER ABLE TO FIX. SAVANNAH HYUNDAI HAS REPORTED ON TWO OCCASIONS THAT OUR CAR HAS SERIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THEY BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO SUNROOF AND BRAKE LIGHT. THIS CAR HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES BEFORE 60,000 MILES AND STIL LHAS UNDER 90,000 AND SAME ISSUES REPEATEDLY. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAR IS UNSAFE. CURRENTLY EMAILED DAVID ZUKOWSKI OF HYUNDAI, OTHER HYUNDAI OUTLETS, MESSAGE HYUNDA ON FB. UNRESOLVED.
WE PURCHASED THIS 2011 SONOTA USED FROM THE FOX DEALERSHIP IN GRAND RAPIDS, MI. THE CAR STARTED WITH ODD ENGINE SOUNDS ON 3/3/15 WHILE DRIVING CITY & LOCAL AND THEN STALLED OUT. WAS ABLE TO RESTART & 2 DAYS LATER THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES IT DID RESTART AND WE GOT IT TO A SHOP A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. AFTER THAT IT WOULD NOT START. THE SHOP SAID THE ENGINE WAS FROZEN. AFTER CALLING FOX HUYNDAI TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HELP US, AS WE JUST BOUGHT THE CAR IN SEPT 2013, THEY WOULD NOT HELP AND ONLY OFFERED $4000 TO INSTALL A REFAB MOTOR. THE SHOP IT WAS AT SAID $4500 FOR A NEW MOTOR AND NEITHER COULD GUARANTEE THAT THE SAME PROBLEM WOULDN'T ARRISE. WE ENDED UP SCRAPING OUT THE CAR AFTER 4 DAYS OF GETTING QUOTES AND TRYING TO DETERMINE OUR BEST OPTION. THE CAR WAS SOLD TO PEDDLE VIA PEDDLE.COM. (DOCS ATTACHED) PEDDLE SENT A WEST MICHIGAN COMPANY OUT TO PICK UP THE CAR FROM US ON 3/9 OR 3/10/15.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE TO GET ONTO THE FREEWAY THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER. THIS INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, EACH TIME HYUNDAI AND THE DEALERSHIP HAVE FAILED TO IDENTIFY AND FIX THE PROBLEM. EACH POWER FAILURE EVENT HAS BEEN A NEAR ACCIDENT. I AM CONCERNED FOR THE MY PASSENGERS AND MY OWN SAFETY. THE VEHICLE HAS RECEIVED ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE, OIL CHANGES AND RECALLS. A CASE HAS BEEN OPENED WITH HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SUPPORT. *TR
2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE ENGINE FAILURE. *SMD THE CONSUMER WROTE IN ON BEHALF OF HIS SISTER AND BROTHER-N-LAW. AS HIS BROTHER-N-LAW EXITED THE RAMP, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD SQUEAL AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. WHEN HE TRIED TO RE-START THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. WHEN THE TECHNICIAN RETURNED, HE HAD AN OILY OIL FILTER. THE THREADS ON THE ENGINE OIL HOUSING WERE DESTROYED. LOOKING FURTHER INTO THE FLUTED TUBE THAT RAN DOWN INTO THE FILTER HOUSING AND DISPERSED THE OIL INTO THE FILTER WAS MANGLED TO THE POINT WHERE THE PAPER ELEMENT WAS COMING OUT OF THE INTO THE OIL FILTER CENTER TUBE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED IT WAS SABOTAGED AS HIS BROTHER-N-LAW HAD JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGED. *JB
HELLO. SO I AM DRIVING HYUNDAI SONATA 2012 SINCE FEBRUARY 2015. I BOUGH IT USED WITH APPROXIMATELY 42000 MILES. WHEN I BOUGH A CAR I DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION BUT REALIZED THAT BRAKING ON LOW SPEEDS DOWNHILL OR ON FLAT SURFACE - BRAKES WOULD GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. AT AROUND 55000 MILES I REPLACED FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AND DID BRAKE FLUID CHANGE, AND THEN LATER I REPLACED REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. THE ISSUES STILL IS THERE. AT 107000 MILES I RECENTLY CHANGED AGAIN FRONT PADS AND ROTORS AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT IT FAULT HECU UNIT. I SAW THAT THERE IS RECALL #13V489000 FOR HYUNDAI GENESIS WITH WHAT APPEARS LIKE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IS THERE A CHANCE THAT MY VEHICLE IS AFFECTED BY THAT RECALL? OR THAT YOU HAVE SOME COMPLAINS FROM OTHER OWNERS OR CURRENT INVESTIGATION ON THIS MATTER?

EARLIER THAT DAY THE WRENCH WAS LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD, BUT IT DISAPPEARED. I WAS DRIVING OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD AT ABOUT 15-20 MPH AND THE SCREEN READ "WARNING! DO NOT DRIVE! THIRDLY, I DROVE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, AND HE IMMEDIATELY DETECTED A PROBLEM. HE HAD THE FRONT 2 TIRES REPLACED, WITH ALLEVIATED THE PROBLEM FOR A TIME, BUT WITHIN A COUPLE WEEKS, THE WOBBLE COULD BE FELT EASILY AGAIN, AT THE SAME SPEEDS AS BEFORE.

THE MECHANIC WAS INFORMED THAT ON A PREVIOUS OIL CHANGE, THE MECHANIC FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ON JAN 26 MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE SLIPPERY. DURING COLD WEATHER, THE 2.0 TURBO SONATA ENGINE WILL CUT POWER TO THE CAR AND GO INTO A "LIMP" MODE IF AN OVER BOOST CODE (USUALLY P0605 & P2110 ), IS TRIGGERED. THIS CAUSES AN UNSAFE SITUATION AS THERE IS VERY LITTLE POWER AVAILABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OR CAN CAUSE A REAR VEHICLE CRASH. THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE TIMES WHERE THIS HAS HAPPENED ON 0 DEGREE DAYS OR EVEN AT 30 DEGREES. THIS WILL HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED IF THE BOOST PRESSURE IS EXCEEDED AND MAKES FOR A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE ECU SHOULD NOT BE CUTTING POWER OR FUEL, IT SHOULD BE REDUCING THE BOOST TO COMPENSATE FOR TEMPERATURE. THE ONLY WAY TO RESTORE THE POWER TO THE ENGINE, IS TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART.....CODES WILL STILL BE ACTIVE BUT THE POWER WILL RESTORE ITSELF.

FROM PAST EXPERIENCE, I KNEW TO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS. BY THE END OF THE SAME DAY, I ADDED ALMOST 5 QUARTS OF OIL. I ALSO BROUGHT THE CAR TO LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER FOR A LATE AFTERNOON (4:30PM) APPOINTMENT JUST BEFORE NEW YEAR'S EVE. SERVICE ADVISOR MENTIONED THAT "BY THE TIME THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT COMES ON YOU'VE GOT LESS THAN A QUART OF OIL LEFT". HE SUGGESTED WE BRING THE CAR BACK WHEN THEY WOULD HAVE MORE TIME TO WORK ON IT. I PLANNED TO HAVE 40000-MILE SERVICE AND EXPECTED A SOMEWHAT EXPENSIVE REPAIR, SO I NEEDED TO WAIT UNTIL FEB 4, WHEN I WOULD HAVE FUNDS AVAILABLE. I BROUGHT THE CAR FOR SERVICE ON 2/4, AND WAS TOLD LATER THAT DAY THAT THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. AFTER THOROUGH INSPECTION, WITH SEVERAL PHOTOS PROVIDED TO FACTORY, HYUNDAI REFUSED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY REPAIR, CITING MY LACK OF REGULAR SERVICE. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED AT 15000 MILES AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN MARCH, 2012, BUT DID NOT HAVE ANY OTHER REGULAR SERVICE PERFORMED. DEALER (NOT THE PURCHASE DEALER) REQUESTED HYUNDAI DO A "GOODWILL REPAIR" THAT WOULD REQUIRE ME TO PAY $1900 LABOR, WHILE HYUNDAI WOULD PAY FOR THE ENGINE AND ALL FLUIDS (~$4800). THE MECHANIC CALLED HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR LIGHTING KIT AND WAS INFORMED THEY KEEP THIS KIT HEAVILY STOCKED BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THEY GET REGARDING THE READ BREAK LIGHTS FREQUENT OUTAGE.QUOTED PRICE $540. SO I STOPPED BY BENTLEY HYUNDAI TO DISCUSS THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO THE MECHANIC. I OVERHEARD THE SERVICE MECHANIC CUSTOMER SERVICE REP SAY TO A MECHANIC WE GOT ANOTHER ONE WITH THE SAME ISSUES. WHEN THE SERVICE REP RETURNED HE INFORMED THEY HAVE THE PART AND QUOTED ME $440 TO REPLACE. THIS IS AN INDICATION THEY IS A LIGHTING/ELECTRICAL MECHANICAL PROBLEM THAT COULD POTENTIALLY KILL SOMEONE. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED BEFORE IT'S TO LATE.
WHILE IN MOTION AT LOW SPEEDS, THE CAR FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE PERFORMANCE WAS EXTREMELY POOR. AFTER SLOWLY ACCELERATING, THE CAR WOULD THEN "SPUTTER" AND THE ENGINE WOULD LOSE POWER (WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION), CAUSING THE CAR TO NEARLY STOP ON THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER HOURS ON THE SIDE OF THE RODE IT WAS FINALLY TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. NOTE THIS HAPPENED AT 104,000 MILES, HYUNDAI CERTIFIED MECHANICS STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THE"SEIZED ENGINE" WAS DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE (WHICH WAS A BLATANT LIE) THEY INFORMED US THAT IT WOULD COST BETWEEN 5-6K FOR A NEW ENGINE OR OFFERED TO BUY THE CAR FOR A FRACTION OF WHAT WAS OWED ON IT; WHICH WAS A JOKE. AFTER MONTHS OF THE CAR SITTING IN MY YARD AND DOING NON-STOP RESEARCH, I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE OTHER PEOPLE IN THE SAME BOAT AS ME. I CONTEMPLATED ON BUYING A USED ENGINE FOR THE CAR BUT THAT WOULD'VE JUST PUT ME IN THE SAME SITUATION DOWN THE ROAD. MY MECHANIC STATED WE COULD REBUILD THE MOTOR AFTER GOING THROUGH THE OIL PAN AND SEEING WITH OUR OWN EYES THE #2 BEARING SEIZED ONTO THE CRANK/ROD. I KNEW THERE WOULD EVENTUALLY BE A RECALL DUE TO HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE; SO, I OPTED ON PATCHING THE ENGINE WITH A NEW BEARING WITH THE SAME DAMAGED CRANKSHAFT, ROD, AND CAP AND WAIT FOR THE RECALL. SURE ENOUGH A YEAR OR SO LATER I GET 2 LETTERS INFORMING ME THERE WAS A RECALL CAMPAIGN 132 AND THAT I NEEDED TO BRING IT IN FOR THE "SOUND" TEST IN WHICH IT PASSED????!!! NOW HYUNDAI IS REFUSING TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED MOTOR SAYING THEIR HANDS ARE TIED AND THAT THEY DID EVERYTHING NHTSA REQUIRES THEM TO DO... THE ONLY WAY TO PROPERLY TEST THAT MOTOR IS BY REMOVING THE OIL PAN AND VISUALLY INSPECT EVERY MOVING PART THAT COULD'VE BEEN DAMAGED BY THE METAL LEFT IN THE ROD BEARING JOURNALS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR WAS NOTICED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND A STRONG FUEL ODOR EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT A KNOCKING SOUND WAS HEARD WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IDLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE) HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT REQUIRE THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
SMELL OF GAS, THIS CAR HAVE HAD 2 MOTOR REPLACED ONE IN JUNE 2014/ 2ND IN AUGUST 2014 AND NOW A THIRD IN OCT 23, FILLED THE CAR UP WITH GAS, GOT ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE CAR STARTED CUTTING BACK, BIG CLOUDS OF SMOKE CAME FROM THE REAR END, BLACK SUTT ON THE EXHAUST PIPES.THE CAR PUTTER ON THE INTERSTATE, HAD TO GET OFF THE ROAD CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE TRY TO STEER TO SAFETY, ONCE CAR SHUT DOWN IT BECAME HARD TO CONTROL, WENT OTHER THE SIDE OF RODE, HIT A WATER PIPE LINE, CAR NEVER CRANK AFTER THAT. HAD TO BE TOWED TO HYUNDAI DEALER SHIP. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME I HAVE REPORTED THIS CAR. NOW IT IS IN THE SHOP AWAITING ENGINEERING TO REVIEW IT. FOR THE 3RD MOTOR. *TR
I HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON MY VEHICLE AND IT REVEALED AN ISSUE WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE ENGINE AREA. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD GO OUT THAT QUICKLY. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THEY NEED TO RECALL THESE. *TR
3RD TIME THE EXHAUST FLAP HAS MALFUNCTIONED IN THE TURBO CHARGER. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A POSTED SPEED LIMIT AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LOSES ALL THE POWER AND SLOWS CONSIDERABLY WITH VEHICLES BEHIND AND BESIDE DOING POSTED SPEED LIMIT. CONCERNED ABOUT GETTING HIT BECAUSE OF SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. REPAIRED ONCE, UNSTUCK ON ITS OWN THE SECOND TIME AND RECENTLY REQUIRED MAINTENANCE TO AGAIN ADJUST THE SYSTEM AND UNSTICK THE EXHAUST FLAP ON THE TURBO UNIT. CURRENTLY UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER IS GOING TO BE A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR WHEN NOT AND ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND WHEN THE SPEED AND POWER SUDDENLY DROPS AS WELL AS NOT BEING ABLE TO GET HOME WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN. *TR
IN OCTOBER 2014, I HAD AN INCIDENT WHERE MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE FREEWAY (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED HYUNDAI PAPERWORK) WITHOUT WARNING. MY CAR WAS AT THE HYUNDAI DEALER IN NORTH PALM BEACH FOR 3 1/2 BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE FINDING OUT MY CAR WAS "FIXED" AND READY TO GO. THE FIRST TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS MY CAR WAS THERE, I WAS CALLED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER ROB AND WAS TOLD THAT "THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED UP, AND THEY HAD TO RUN A SERIES OF DIAGNOSTIC TESTS PRIOR TO REPLACING THE ENGINE" WHICH WAS UNDER WARRANTY (UNDER 60,000 MILES AT THE TIME). HOWEVER, I WAS CALLED ON DAY 3 WHERE ROB STATED THAT MY "ENGINE WAS RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES WERE SHOWING UP." MY PAPERWORK FROM HYUNDAI STATES THAT THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THE NEED TO TIGHTEN THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND RECHARGE THE BATTERY. CHECKING THE BATTERY IS ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS A CAR MECHANIC CHECKS WHEN A CAR DOES NOT START, SO OBVIOUSLY THERE WAS A MORE SIGNIFICANT UNDIAGNOSED PROBLEM IN THIS CASE THAT WAS SWEPT UNDER THE RUG SO TO SPEAK. A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AND APPROXIMATELY 1000 MILES LATER, MY CAR STALLED OUT COMPLETELY ON THE FREEWAY IN SIMILAR FASHION (ONLY THIS TIME, THERE WAS INTERMITTENT ENGINE SHAKING PRIOR TO THE CAR SHUTTING DOWN). HOWEVER, I WAS IN MARTIN COUNTY WHEN I BROKE DOWN AND MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER IN STUART PER PROGRESSIVE CAR INSURANCE TOWING POLICY. I HAD PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED ALL MY SERVICES AT THE DEALER EXCEPT THE LAST OIL CHANGE. I AM APPALLED THAT THE DEALER DID NOT TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE RECENT CAR PROBLEMS AND PLACED THE CAUSE 100% ON THE LOCAL OIL CHANGE FACILITY. AN ENGINE DOES NOT LOCK UP COMPLETELY AND GET FIXED BY TIGHTENING TERMINALS AND RECHARGING THE BATTERY. OBVIOUSLY, THERE WAS A SEVERE PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE BOTH THE FIRST AND SECOND TIME I WENT TO THE DEALER.
WHILE DRIVING UPHILL AT ROUGHLY 50 MPH THE ROD BEARING IN MY 2.4 LITER HYUNDAI SONATA FAILED. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING APPROXIMATELY 5000 RPMS AT THE TIME OF FAILURE. THE MOTORS WAS RUINED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO THE NORMAL USE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE, HAVING OIL CHANGES EVERY 5,000 MILES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V434000 (TRANSMISSION), BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT BOTH FRONT AXLES FRACTURED AND CAUSED ALL FOUR TIRES TO BE WORN PREMATURELY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
